I Am all In.

0:16

I Am all In with Scott Patterson

0:19

an iHeartRadio podcast.

0:21

Hey Everybody, Scott Patterson, I Am all In Podcast

0:23

one eleven productions, iHeartRadio, I Heart

0:25

Media, iHeart Podcasts. One

0:28

on one Interview, Season seven,

0:30

Episode three, and we

0:32

have very special guest. Hannah Lee appeared

0:36

as Charlotte Courtwright, the little girl that

0:38

answered the door in the very first scene for

0:41

one episode. You only did the one episode show.

0:43

It was one of the young girls Emily was

0:46

mentoring for Katillion. Let's

0:50

talk about her bio a little bit. She's

0:52

an actress's a singer, well,

0:54

let's get into that too. Featured on Swat,

0:56

Body of Proof, mad Men, Bones Lone Star

0:58

Without a Tray's Kicking It, and more

1:00

recent in the Sex Lives

1:03

of College Girls. Hannah is also

1:05

an indie pomp singer songwriter

1:08

with music available on all streaming

1:12

platforms. That's exciting. So

1:14

let's talk about Hannah.

1:17

How you got the role on

1:19

Gilmore Girls and welcome to the show.

1:21

Thank you, thank you. This is like such

1:23

a treat. I couldn't believe it when I got the Invice

1:26

is so fun. I love reliving the

1:28

days of Gilmore Girls. So I'm stoked

1:31

how I got the role. It

1:34

was the classic, Like Jamiwdowsky

1:38

was the casting director at the time for my

1:40

episode, and I think the whole show, and

1:42

I just remember it was a really positive experience.

1:45

You never know what you're going to get as a condector in the room,

1:47

and it was the classic. I think

1:50

pre read in two callbacks, and she

1:52

was such a light and I remember feeling

1:54

really comfy and the casting process

1:57

was pretty easy. It was nice.

1:58

How old were you at the time, ten.

2:01

Eleven, ten or eleven?

2:02

Yeah, what's

2:05

that like being so young and

2:07

being involved in the business at that

2:10

level?

2:11

I could write a thesis on that question.

2:14

I love to keep it short for you. I

2:17

think I started in the industry

2:19

at the age of four. My first was

2:22

four years old, so I didn't have tangible

2:24

memory of not being an actor.

2:27

So by the time I got to Gilmore Girls,

2:29

it had been six years of my life,

2:31

of my very developmental life. So

2:34

it was just something I was so used to

2:37

doing that it didn't feel

2:39

like anything abnormal, which I think a lot of other

2:41

child actors might have a different take

2:44

or maybe the same, but to me, it was all

2:46

I knew, So it was. It was

2:48

just kind of like the life

2:50

I had.

2:51

Right fit like a glove, all natural.

2:53

There you go, this is what I do. It's not a

2:56

big deal. I've always done it.

2:57

Yeah, yeah, exactly and that other

3:00

things. But yeah, for me at the time,

3:02

it was just another another day,

3:04

another audition.

3:06

Were you a fan of the show before you auditioned?

3:09

I didn't watch it. I was I

3:11

think maybe on the lower age

3:13

end as far as like understanding the amazing

3:16

intelligent comedy. But

3:18

my mom and my sister were like stoked

3:22

about that girl. My

3:24

mom was like over the moon, and I

3:27

actually recently

3:29

just started binging gol my girl's blued or

3:31

not? And I'm like,

3:33

where has this been all my life? I can't believe it took me so

3:36

long too. Wow.

3:38

All right, so now you're on the set with Kellie Bishop

3:40

ed Herman. Did they offer any kind of sage advice?

3:43

What would they like?

3:45

Yeah? I remember feeling

3:48

so welcomed in a way that

3:50

maybe it hadn't clicked before on a set

3:52

because I felt included

3:55

in a professional and kind

3:57

way, and I didn't feel like I was treated like a

3:59

little kid for maybe the first

4:02

time. I remember that feeling really

4:04

special, like I was just as respected

4:06

as everybody else on that set, and

4:10

Lauren in particular, she gave

4:12

me a lot of comfort on those days. I mean,

4:14

the dialogue is crazy, the

4:17

pace is crazy on that show,

4:19

and I don't think I had done anything like it.

4:22

And I remember that on one of the days,

4:25

I was given like a new paragraph

4:27

of dialogue, like at lunch or something,

4:30

and I couldn't It

4:33

wasn't happening for my brain, Like it was

4:35

not happening. It was a big paragraph.

4:38

And I remember Lauren pulled me aside and she was like

4:41

all of us on set like trip up

4:43

on these this dialogue, like it is crazy

4:45

fast, You're not alone. And I just remember

4:47

feeling so comforted by all

4:49

of them about the type

4:51

of show. But it was it was a positive experience.

4:53

Yeah, she was great like that with guest stars. She always

4:56

made them feel welcome and comfortable help

4:58

them. Yeah, it's

5:00

nice to see because not everybody, not

5:02

every number one is like that.

5:05

No, not at all, but yeah, she was.

5:07

Yeah, she was great at that. So

5:13

did you after you filmed the episodes? Your parents

5:15

like you watch it? Yeah, there is

5:17

some content in there that's a little racing.

5:20

You know, I don't think I think even my own

5:22

like in my own scenes, Like there's a line where,

5:26

uh, I think Laura makes a joke about

5:28

if I'm going to have a drink and if I'm driving home that

5:30

night, and I'm like, like, Laura, I'm only

5:32

ten. I don't even think I understood what I

5:34

was saying. Like, I think my parents knew that

5:37

watching it wasn't going to be anything because

5:39

I just there yet. I

5:41

was like, yeah, I watched it.

5:42

It was it was cute, right

5:45

right right. I thought

5:47

it was very funny that that was really funny.

5:49

It was a good one. It was fun.

5:51

It was such a great scene.

5:53

Thank you.

5:54

Uh

5:55

uh So, really, what was

5:57

it like growing up as a child actor?

6:00

How were you different from other kids?

6:03

Did you feel different from other

6:05

kids? Did they treat you differently?

6:09

Yeah, I mean it was a weird kind

6:11

of balance because on one end of

6:13

the of the

6:16

stick, you got like the kids who were so

6:18

excited to be your friend because you were on Disney Channel

6:20

and you were like someone that they could

6:23

watch on their television. And on the other

6:25

end, there was like that kind of isolated

6:27

feeling of nobody is experiencing what I'm

6:30

experiencing in my day to day life, but

6:32

I'm being celebrated for it, but I don't

6:34

know where the real aspect

6:36

of that comes along. Is like being an outcast

6:39

and having friends. I also, like, didn't

6:41

go to school. I was homeschool because of acting,

6:45

so I found a lot of I found

6:47

a lot of my friendships, like in dance,

6:49

because I grew up dancing as well. And

6:51

actually, a very fun fact, a lot of the little

6:54

extras on this episode

6:56

were from my dance studio, and I

6:58

didn't know that they were hired as

7:00

extras until I got on set that day and

7:03

we were kind of like, why are you here? Why are you here?

7:05

Like to make you feel comfortable going on?

7:07

Sure, But I had actually just started at

7:09

that dance studio, so I didn't really know

7:11

all of them, so it was kind

7:13

of this, like why does Hannah have lines?

7:16

Like what's going on?

7:18

Right? Right right, right right?

7:20

But they're some of my best friends to this day.

7:22

Still.

7:22

That's great, Yeah, that's

7:25

great. So you're also a

7:27

singer songwriter? Yeah, yeah,

7:30

that's interesting. I'm a

7:32

songwriter. I wouldn't call myself a singer

7:34

by any stretch of the imagination, but I've been writing songs

7:36

my whole life. Who

7:39

are your influencing I.

7:41

Would say like current day influences

7:43

are like the paper Kites, Passenger

7:46

Boy, Genius. Older

7:49

influences I just grew up on like sixpence on

7:51

the Richer, Johnny Mitchell Taylor,

7:53

James Taylor. But

7:55

I am definitely driven by the singer songwriter,

7:58

more folk side of me. I

8:00

think I just grew up that way. As

8:02

I'm kind of coming into my

8:05

own as an adult, I'm definitely exploring

8:07

pop as a genre as well. It's fun,

8:10

it makes me happy at shows to play,

8:12

So I'm kind of melding those two worlds.

8:14

Right now, are you? Are you writing a lot

8:16

of pop songs?

8:17

Yeah, I'm I'm about to release my

8:20

second EP this year really

8:22

kind of it's le leaning into that

8:24

more pop rock. I have a

8:26

couple of those classic singer songwriter

8:29

acoustic things on the EP, just because

8:31

that's where I feel so at home.

8:33

But I'm excited to like explore the

8:36

stuff that's like fun to me.

8:38

Right right, That's that's great. Are

8:40

you Are you signed with anybody

8:42

or no? Right?

8:44

No, I I'm just

8:46

doing it all on my own at the moment. I

8:48

just I just played a show at the Troubadour

8:51

last year, which kind of felt

8:53

like the biggest moment for

8:55

my career so far.

8:57

And then How to Go. How to Go?

8:58

It was great, we sold out. I had the best

9:00

side of my life, but I

9:03

lost my mind.

9:05

Did you film it?

9:06

Yeah?

9:06

I mean there's videos like it

9:09

was truly the greatest night I think of

9:11

my life. I'll probably say until maybe my wedding,

9:13

but yeah, everyone

9:15

I could have ever met was there. It was It

9:18

was truly special, and so I feel

9:20

like that was a really big catalyst for

9:22

like what's to come for this year's release.

9:25

Oh that's good, Good for you. All

9:36

Right, we're gonna play a game called rapid

9:38

Fine, it doesn't mean

9:40

you have to answer quickly, but here, how

9:43

do you like your coffee?

9:45

I like it with three sugars and oat

9:47

milk?

9:48

Okay? Are your team Logan, Team Jess

9:50

or Team Dean?

9:52

Uh?

9:53

Okay, I'm definitely not Team

9:56

Jess, but I'm only on season

9:59

three?

10:00

Mean, why aren't your

10:02

team Chess?

10:03

Sorry? I'm so sorry.

10:04

No, No, you don't have to apologize.

10:07

I just he hasn't stolen

10:09

my heart yet. He was you

10:11

know, didn't yet screwing

10:14

up.

10:15

He's screwing up a lot. Yeah,

10:17

who's your favorite Gilmour couple? Luke and

10:19

Laura, Emily and Richard.

10:21

Oh, Luke and Laura, Like there

10:23

you go.

10:24

Of course, the only answer is would

10:27

you rather work with Michelle or Kirk?

10:30

O?

10:32

God, I feel like Michelle

10:34

and I would weirdly get along, Like I feel like I can find

10:36

the sweet spot?

10:38

Mm hmm, okay, right,

10:41

yeah, Kirk would be hard to Yeah, that's

10:45

that would be a daily.

10:47

Sort of a challenge.

10:49

Fun to watch for other people

10:52

that maybe not being in the pocket.

10:54

With that on a TA think I'd find Kirk.

10:58

Who would you rather hang out with? Paris

11:00

or Lane?

11:02

All?

11:03

Lane?

11:03

But Paris is such a sweet spot

11:05

in my heart.

11:07

She's a tender flowers.

11:10

But Lane's cool.

11:12

Harvard or Yale? Or drop out and

11:14

live in the poolhouse?

11:16

Mm hmm Harvard O g

11:18

dream? Why not?

11:22

Would you rather attend a D A R Event with

11:24

Emily or a town meeting with Taylor?

11:26

Town meeting?

11:27

Oh?

11:28

Yeah, I want to have meeting.

11:32

Gilmore. Girl's character that you would

11:34

want as a roommate?

11:38

Mmm. I'm

11:41

gonna say Emily because I want to live in that house.

11:44

And I want the I want to I want that

11:46

cool room that they have as

11:49

kids.

11:51

Okay, uh, something in your

11:53

life you are all in on. I

11:56

think I already know what that is.

11:58

Oh I

12:00

I'm going to say A happy answer is loving

12:02

my people. I love people

12:04

and I just want to be here to spread

12:07

love and if that's through art, then that's

12:09

how I do it. But that's what I'm all in on all

12:11

the time.

12:12

Well that's fantastic. Listen,

12:15

it's We're going to talk a

12:17
