When I was 15, my body shape suddenly changed. In the 1980s, teenage white girls in rural Australia were expected to be sporty beachgoers and I was no different. No one had heard of lipoedema, much less "ghetto booty" and I was raised thinking "you can never be too rich or too thin". Ironically, I've spent most of my life poor and fat, depressed about an inherited condition noone had heard of, much less me. High school can be brutal.
