Pick a hunt which will be attainable and successful. Don’t start out with an extreme hunt and try to make sure you will have fun. Success doesn’t always mean a kill.

Which weapon will you start with. Bow, Rifle and muzzle loader. Are you comfortable with either? If not, than you will most likely be successful with rifle.

ON X Maps app for your smart phone. This is a lifesaver to help hunters know where to hunt. It is leaps and bounds above anything else out there. You may have public land right near your house and this app will show you.

Working out to make sure you can hang in the mountains and terrain you are hunting in. It will change you as a hunter if you get a perfect kill and are not in shape enough to pack out all the meat.

Hunters Education is a must. We are hoping to find someone who teaches these courses to chat with on the podcast.

Regulations is a very important topic to get the basics of. Know when and where you can hunt! What are the rules. Changes happen every year. Shooting hours, hunters orange, areas where you can and can’t use rifles are a few of the rules to cover.

Buck fever- The make or break moment in a hunt. This is real and needs to be talked about before taking your first shot in the field.

Shot placement is so important. A new hunter should study where to aim and where exactly are the vitals. Everyone will make a bad shot, though preparation is important. If you do not get a kill shot and ethics will tell you to properly chase the animal and fill your tag with THAT animal.

Once you get to your freshly killed animal, now you need to know how to properly turn it into something which will feed your family. Knowing the edible parts and how to correctly butcher it. Keep the area clean and practice proper field care. We would love to chat with a butcher on the podcast eventually.

Will you scout an area or pick an area and go there to find your animals in the moment? We will chat about trips in both styles and time could be the big difference between the two.

CWD is a topic all hunters should know about and be aware of. Chronic Wasting Disease is in. most southern states of the USA and is slowly spreading to western states.

What type of clothing should you hunt in? We will talk about the different seasons and what you will need.

Types of hunts- Tree stand hunting, spot and stock, road hunting. There may be different animals that may be better to hunt with certain styles.

Binoculars and scopes will be a topic to cover. There are so many different levels to choose from in price and efficiency.

Long distance shooting has a ton of ins and outs to discuss. Wind, terrain and even the Earth’s curvature come into factor. Kris feels like he can talk for hours about this.

Public Land! The politics behind hunting is an important thing to discuss. Conservation is key to the future of hunting.

Out of state or out of country hunting. CWD plays a factor between states and flying can put a big wrench in your wheel if it is not planned out properly.

We both think it would be a fun conversation to chat with a non hunter who doesn’t understand why people hunt. It is good to civilly discuss this topic to get the points out on the table. What about vegans or vegetarians?

Hunters ethics is another discussion that can go on for hours. We will dive into the do’s and don’ts of hunting.

How can we get more people interested in hunting? Are there other people who didn’t grow up hunting who we can helpmeet interested in it? This will only help preserve more areas for hunting in the future and better the future of the animals we hunt.

Our daughter- will we pass on our hunting knowledge to our kids?

How does hunting affect our personal relationships? Family is important and so is the quality of food we procure.
