America's real history is
0:04
one of giants who overcame all
0:06
odds, overcame slavers and
0:09
robber barons. And what did we do?
0:12
Well, everyone knows we invented the internet,
0:14
but we also invented the middle
0:16
class, the five-day work week, the
0:18
teenager, the automobile and the space
0:20
race, and we're just getting started.
0:24
We've been through far more chaotic times than
0:26
this one, with some of the
0:28
most incredible leaders on the planet, and
0:31
they're ready for us to pick up where they left off.
0:34
Our real origins connect us back to
0:36
reality, each other, and a
0:38
whole new cinematic universe to empower and
0:41
inspire. My name is Matthew
0:43
Cook, and I'm the host of
0:45
American Origin Stories, now playing
0:47
wherever you get your podcasts, or
0:50
you can learn more at realm.fm. Hello,
1:02
and welcome to the IGN UK
1:04
podcast. It's time for our big
1:06
look ahead at everything coming out
1:08
in 2024, all the games, TV,
1:11
and films that you may or may not
1:13
be excited for. Do you know what I'm
1:15
excited for, though? Matt Perzlow, you're back. Oh,
1:17
hello. I've missed you. You've missed
1:19
me. Wow. Yeah. I've
1:22
only been away for, what, like two weeks? Is he back for the audience?
1:24
Or how long has it been since you've been on a podcast? Oh,
1:26
I don't know. Were you on the games one? I was.
1:29
What was that? Two weeks? It's
1:31
probably about a month now. Wow. Matt,
1:33
we haven't spoken about this yet, but I
1:35
hear that you and one, Gavin Murphy, were
1:37
the exact same flight to Minnesota? That
1:40
is an odd coincidence. Yeah, yeah. I was
1:42
on a flight out, and it not only
1:44
turned out that he was in the airport
1:46
with me, but then it turned
1:48
out he was in the seat behind me. Oh, the seat?
1:51
Oh, yeah. That's even weird. And I did
1:53
say to him, I was like, I did know that you
1:55
were both going there around the same time and then never
1:57
pieced it together. I
2:00
suppose they probably only have like one flight a
2:02
day to Minnesota from London I guess it's not
2:04
that many of them. But yeah it was then
2:06
a case of sort of like then meeting up
2:08
again in the immigration queue and because Gavin behind
2:10
me was like oh I saw you watch X,
2:13
Y and Z let's have a chat about X,
2:15
Y and Z. There
2:17
you go what a lovely little
2:19
coincidence. Do you know some
2:21
of the stuff you didn't watch or play though is all
2:23
the stuff we're gonna talk about here because it's not out
2:25
yet I'd imagine so unless it was a time traveling plane.
2:29
Sorry I want to interrupt this. Matt
2:32
were you on a virgin flight? It wasn't it was
2:34
a Delta. I like it. I've got a virgin flight
2:36
in a couple of weeks and I want to know
2:38
what films are on there. I
2:41
wish that it's one of those
2:43
things where you can book through Virgin but it's
2:45
always operated by Delta to Minnesota. In
2:48
Catch Up they'll probably have all the Oscar nominees I think.
2:50
Catch up with a couple of those. All the films we're
2:52
not allowed to watch at home. That's
2:54
our watch. There we go. There we go.
2:57
I've only like to talk about Grot. It's not
2:59
Grot. I just mean like things that you can't
3:01
do that on a plane. You can't be that
3:03
boring. Let anyone has
3:05
watched Grot on a plane. I'm not
3:08
letting you start this podcast. We're keeping this track going.
3:10
We've got a lot to get through here. A
3:13
frankly exhaustive list of all the stuff coming out
3:15
this year or potentially going on here. Oh
3:18
I get on with it. Yeah let's do it. First let's
3:21
talk about the games first. A
3:24
lot of games looking to come out this year.
3:26
I mean it doesn't look like it might. You
3:28
know last year was a particularly outstanding year for
3:31
new games right. But this year I think there's
3:33
some good looking ones but maybe a lot hasn't
3:35
been revealed yet. I don't know.
3:37
It's looking a little emptier but there is some good stuff. So let's
3:40
start with I mean literally today
3:42
I think Prince of Purge the Lost Crown is
3:44
out so it's hardly an upcoming one. But Dale
3:47
you've been playing quite a bit of it and you
3:49
like it. Yeah I really like it. Yeah. I'm
3:52
surprised as well how dense it is
3:54
as well. Like obviously when this first
3:56
got announced there's like a tinge of
3:58
disappointment. in the air because it was
4:00
a 2D Metro-Ovenia Prince
4:02
of Persia. I
4:05
did not share in that sentiment. I always thought it
4:07
looked pretty cool. Matt, you got to go and play
4:09
it and you came back saying
4:11
you thought it was pretty good. Yeah, yeah.
4:13
And I like wholeheartedly agree.
4:15
I will say it is
4:18
Metroid-ass Metroidvania. It's the most video
4:20
gamey video game that come out
4:22
this year, which obviously is at
4:24
the very start. But yeah, it's
4:26
so mechanical heavy, right? Yeah. But
4:28
I would say it's, if you're
4:30
a fan of that genre and
4:32
I am, like I usually try
4:34
to play them every now and
4:36
again, it's really good fun.
4:38
And I think it feels fluid, it feels
4:41
fast, like getting around
4:43
it's always exciting. That Metro-Ovenia thing of always
4:45
seeing the thing that you can interact with,
4:48
but knowing that you can't do it yet. And then
4:50
when you get that tool and then you get to
4:52
go back there, that always like ticks a box for
4:54
me. I don't know why it's really satisfying. It wasn't
4:56
really on my radar, but everyone seems to be loving
4:58
it so much that I feel like I'm going to
5:00
need to play it at some point.
5:02
I will say it's huge. Like, so I am,
5:05
I think there's a tracker and I think I'm at
5:07
like 45% right now, but I feel like I've been
5:09
playing it for at least 10 hours so far. And
5:11
like, this is like in terms
5:13
of Metroidvania length, like it feels like a
5:15
huge one. And obviously you have that world
5:17
map where you know, you're walking from
5:20
area to area and you expand out as you go.
5:22
It is massive where I'm at. So much so that
5:24
it's quite daunting sometimes when I could see an I-card
5:26
all the way on the other side of the map
5:28
and I'm like, Jesus, that's going to take me ages
5:31
to get there. I've seen quite a few Hollow Knight
5:33
comparisons, which I wasn't expecting. And I do think Hollow
5:35
Knight is fantastic. It really reminds me,
5:37
did you ever play Guacamelee? Yes.
5:39
And again, just the Metro-Ovenia, right? So that's
5:41
obvious why they're comparable, but it really reminds
5:44
me of that in terms of how the
5:46
combat works as well. Like it is very
5:48
action heavy as well as platforming and puzzle
5:50
heavy. And it really reminds me of
5:52
that. Like Guacamelee had a lot of that, obviously doing
5:54
wrestling moves and stuff. But yeah, I
5:57
would say if you like to Guacamelee and you like to play, then you can
5:59
do it. like Metrovenus in general, this is definitely worth having
6:01
a look at. I also think
6:03
kind of like in the limited that I play,
6:05
because I played it at preview and have also
6:08
played probably about the first three hours of the
6:10
main build, it's
6:12
definitely got the difficulty kind
6:14
of like ramp that Hollow
6:16
Knight has. It's got some
6:19
relatively challenging bosses and when the
6:21
platforming gets tricky, it really does
6:23
get tricky. So I think
6:25
if you've got the patience for that and the
6:27
determination to get through it, I do think
6:29
it's a good example of this. They do
6:31
have great accessibility options though as well. So
6:33
I'm playing it on normal, but
6:36
I did, there was this area where I was
6:38
really struggling to get through a platforming section and
6:40
then it popped up with a prompt saying, oh,
6:42
you can actually create portals that zip you from
6:44
one past these puzzles. And not that I
6:46
wasn't like initially thinking, oh, I'm going to use
6:48
this, but I did was curious or how it
6:50
works. I turned it on and it just
6:52
like you create support, it just zips you straight past that puzzle
6:55
onto the other side of it. And I'm like,
6:57
yeah, I wouldn't use this all the time. But if you're
6:59
going around at the end, like trying to get around places
7:01
quick, this could be like really handy. And also if you're
7:03
struggling with it and you just want to carry on with
7:05
the game, it's there for you as well. There
7:07
we go. You can, that's not even upcoming this year.
7:10
You can play that now. There's a free demo as
7:12
well. I think you can check out if you're interested.
7:15
We've got also got in January, we've got the last
7:17
as part two remastered. We all love the last as
7:20
part two, probably play again at
7:22
some point. Looking forward to checking out the
7:24
new stuff as well. Like
7:26
a Dragon Infinite Wealth is also this month. I
7:28
can't, I know I'm going to, so
7:31
I recently finished Like a Dragon. Yakuza's
7:34
Like a Dragon on the game out three years ago, the
7:36
first turn based one. And it
7:38
took me three years to get through it all in the
7:40
end because it would be a game I'd always come back
7:42
to when I wasn't playing any other games. And I absolutely
7:44
loved it. So yeah, I know this one is going to
7:47
be a game I'll probably love again. And
7:49
you know, it'll probably take me the whole year
7:51
to finish it because these are dense games. But
7:53
yeah, this one has a whole Animal Crossing sim
7:55
in it. So God knows how much time we're
7:58
going to lose on that. Animal
8:00
Crossing sim as in it
8:03
has an island you can go to where you build
8:05
a whole resort and everything. It
8:08
looks ridiculous. These
8:10
games are known for their extensive mini games
8:13
that are essentially games of in games. They're
8:15
hardly mini games but yeah, this one looks
8:17
ridiculous. I've never played like a Yakuza game
8:19
or like a Dragon. But I am fascinated
8:21
by the churn. This
8:23
one's in Hawaii. How fast they
8:25
turn these games around and how dense they
8:27
are in terms of gameplay mechanics. They must
8:29
have so many people working on those games.
8:32
Yeah, I mean, yeah, I'm sure we'll talk
8:34
about it in a couple weeks but yeah,
8:36
I can't. It's just looks
8:38
so much fun. Also, January,
8:41
Tekken 8 is out. We're not
8:43
really the three of us anyway aren't
8:45
huge fighting game fans necessarily, but I did
8:47
grow up on Tekken. I just I
8:50
can't see myself jumping back in. I don't
8:52
know about you guys. I like fighting games
8:54
but I've in my age now I've sort
8:56
of resigned myself to I just play the
8:58
Mortal Kombat now really like so I've like
9:01
Street Fighter's passed me by a little bit and yeah
9:04
Tekken probably the same. I was the same as you
9:06
in PS1 and PS2. I play Tekken
9:09
Loads but yeah, I don't know if I'll be
9:11
going to this to be honest. I
9:13
have never played a single second of a Tekken
9:15
game. Whoa. Oh,
9:17
well, maybe this is your year.
9:21
February, I'll probably jump into Persona 3 reload just
9:23
because I love Persona 3, but I did only
9:25
play it last year when they put them out
9:27
on Switch. So I don't know if I need
9:29
to play the remake again so soon, but if
9:31
you haven't played a Persona game before then
9:33
this could be you know, it's a good one to jump in
9:35
on because it's a little bit simpler a
9:37
little bit more streamlined than four or five and
9:39
I say a little bit shorter. It's still like
9:41
a 60 70 hour game. There's not
9:44
100. Very, very good. If you're
9:46
into that. February Suicide
9:48
Squad, I say February, I think if
9:50
you get early access, it's 30th of
9:52
January. So the Suicide
9:54
Squad Kill Justice League is a game
9:56
that's recently been previewed by people. I haven't played it
9:59
yet. Not being
10:01
greeted in the most shining of lights,
10:03
we can say. They
10:06
do actually lift the alpha on the technical,
10:09
the DNA, the NDA on the technical alpha
10:11
that happened recently. I know Matt, you played
10:13
a bit of that, so you could give
10:15
some very brief thoughts if you wanted on
10:17
the Suicide Squad game. I thought it was
10:19
bad. Oh no. I
10:22
really, like, with
10:24
him, I so badly want this game to be good
10:26
just because I love Rock Steady so much. But
10:29
like, I cannot believe
10:32
the trajectory from Arkham
10:35
Knight, one of my favourite
10:37
games, particularly of that
10:39
generation, down to this. A
10:41
game where, so I played the entirety of what
10:43
was available in that alpha, and
10:46
basically all I did was shoot monsters
10:49
with guns. And that is not really
10:51
what I expect out of a comic
10:53
book based thing. Like, none
10:55
of the characters, each of the characters do
10:57
have kind of like their own unique kind
10:59
of spin. But ultimately that's
11:01
more about kind of movement and
11:03
their occasional melee. It is mostly
11:05
a game about shooting things with big guns. And
11:08
it felt very arcade fronted, and
11:10
it was just like, go
11:13
to this area and shoot X amount of
11:15
monsters until you could progress to the next
11:17
area to shoot X amount of monsters. I
11:20
really genuinely think this is... Obviously
11:23
it's a small section I've seen, but
11:25
that small section I thought was actively
11:27
bad, not just disappointing. Yeah. Well,
11:30
there we go. We'll see in a few weeks when
11:32
there have been a lot of people who are like,
11:34
maybe when you pay it from
11:36
the start, build your own character, build a thing,
11:38
it could be bad. All of those stats in
11:40
that game look horrible. There's already been lots of
11:42
jokes made about the state of that HUD and
11:44
that UI, just the amount of stuff there. Five
11:47
different currencies in the game. The gun
11:49
thing is fascinating to me because a
11:52
common complaint everyone's saying is like, all you do
11:54
is just shoot and things. It's like, well, you
11:56
could describe lots of games like that and you
11:58
don't have that complaint there. But I think it's
12:01
the... expectation that you come into this with right
12:03
the fact that well they're super well the Arkham
12:05
games are so varied in what you're doing and
12:07
how you do it right and they mix up
12:09
and yeah okay there's a there's a Riddler trophy
12:11
to solve over here then now I'm gonna do
12:13
a stalking stealth mission now I'm
12:15
doing you know out and out brawling combat
12:18
not one see you yeah just mowing
12:20
down people with Gatling yeah I was
12:22
definitely like there's some Riddler elements
12:24
in that game as you'd expect at least
12:26
what I got to play and there is
12:29
very different activities but they felt a lot
12:31
like the way that destiny puts its activities
12:34
together which is it's all about shooting waves
12:36
of enemies and if
12:38
I'm playing as King shark yeah what I
12:40
want to do is go around and beat
12:42
things up and chomp their heads off if
12:44
I'm playing Harley Quinn I want to be
12:46
hitting things with the biggest mallet possible if
12:48
I'm you know playing as Captain Boomerang I
12:50
want the boomerang to be my main thing
12:53
and it just isn't the case here they
12:55
all use some of the
12:57
ugliest guns I've ever seen in a
12:59
video game they're so badly designs
13:01
like yeah it's not yeah
13:04
I want to have so badly be optimistic
13:06
yeah but every time I see us get
13:08
my own but what we're
13:10
only a few weeks away now so we'll
13:12
find out soon what the complete package is like
13:14
um hell divers 2
13:17
is also February one of like PlayStation's
13:19
exclusives for this year did you
13:21
guys play much hell divers one all but
13:23
also I don't think it massively aren't they two
13:26
very differently designed out to very the yes the
13:28
first one was like a top-down this one's behind
13:31
the shoulder third person one co-op she
13:33
aware you're but it's kind of a little
13:35
bit Starship troopers right yeah yeah I might
13:38
give it a go I can't sound overly
13:40
excited if it turns
13:42
up on PlayStation Plus it's absolutely something I'll play
13:45
but it's not necessarily something I'm gonna seek out
13:48
no no no no banishes
13:50
ghosts of New England England sorry
13:52
not New England yeah can't speak
13:54
now banishes ghosts of New Eden
13:58
is a game coming out in February which me
14:00
and Matt you've both seen and
14:02
I proved it for you, it was
14:04
pretty cool, a little bit of God of War there, a little bit
14:06
of Witcher there, kind of some good third
14:09
person action cross with like don't
14:11
nod sort of like choice based storytelling
14:14
and it seemed like it would it
14:16
seemed, I wouldn't say I think this is going to be an amazing game
14:18
but it looked like one of those pretty good
14:21
like seven out of ten games that people
14:23
at the end of the year would go
14:25
oh you should check this out. I think
14:27
if you liked Vampyr or Vampire however you
14:29
pronounce their kind of a weirder more actiony
14:31
kind of focused game that they had, this
14:34
felt like it was a step up over
14:36
that and potentially kind of more what
14:39
that should have been ideally in terms
14:41
of a better balance of combat that
14:43
actually felt like it could be good
14:45
and the narrative stuff. It's one
14:48
I'll check out, I don't know if I'll tell you
14:50
that because February's looking absolutely packed at the moment, might
14:52
be one that I check out later in the year
14:54
but I'm always up for a third person story
14:57
driven action game so I'll give it
14:59
a look. Do you like PlayStation games
15:02
Simon? I do like PlayStation
15:04
games yes. Skull
15:08
and Bones is February, finally is
15:11
it though? I
15:13
can't imagine if they delayed it again.
15:16
Is it six, seven delays? Six delays
15:18
so far. Oh my lord.
15:20
I just don't think this is
15:23
for me, I'm sure it'll be one of
15:25
those Ubisoft games you know like For Honor
15:27
and the crew has like there's always like
15:29
a million people playing it and you've never
15:31
met any of them. Yeah I don't know, I'm
15:33
always like very I don't know skeptical of those
15:35
when you hear those things. Obviously they are, they're
15:37
supporting them right so they must have a client
15:39
base there but yeah like you said
15:41
you never meet anyone, I've literally never met anyone
15:44
in my life who plays For Honor. I
15:47
mean if you don't, it's kind of
15:49
the black Assassin's Creed black flag spin-off
15:51
pirate ship game where you're going around
15:53
being a pirate. You'll
15:55
remember it from its announcement in 2017. And
16:00
when I give it a go... ...and when it looked completely
16:02
different in 2018... I'll probably give it a go just out
16:05
of interest to say I played Skull and Bones. You know
16:07
what I mean? But, I don't know. I
16:09
can't say I'm overly enthralled by the
16:11
prospects of it. Yeah,
16:13
there we go. Pacific Drive does look interesting
16:15
though. You guys look quite good, right? Yeah, I
16:17
really like the look of this. It's got a
16:19
vibe. Survival horror
16:22
car driving game? It's got
16:25
like a synthwave retro futuristic
16:27
aesthetic, right? The car is
16:30
very... The DeLorean from
16:32
Back to the Future. But it
16:34
has almost a stranger things-ish horror vibe to
16:36
the world that you're driving through. Horror of
16:39
the world, sort of. Yeah, yeah, I know.
16:41
And obviously see that. Yeah,
16:43
I'm going to check this out. It's...
16:45
Yeah, it just looks intriguing. You
16:48
going to check this one out though? You look
16:50
a bit horror. You look a bit of a
16:53
driver. You're the main driver. I genuinely think with
16:55
this game, like, I could either love it or
16:58
hate it. Like, I don't
17:00
know. Something about it or... I'm very
17:02
cautious about it. But I am
17:04
intrigued, so I definitely want to check it out.
17:06
But I do worry that I might hate it.
17:08
It's got like a slightly immersive
17:11
simmish look to it in the fact that it's
17:13
all in first person. You... I think part of
17:15
it is going to be actually maintaining and looking
17:17
after the car in the way that... Jalopy,
17:20
if you remember Jalopy, which is the game
17:22
about travelling across Europe. I think
17:24
it was in an old banger that you'd have to
17:26
maintain and repair. It looks like it
17:28
might have a bit of that to it. And that appeals
17:30
to me in a weird way. I'm
17:33
going to check it out again. So many games. I'll try
17:35
and check it all out. I think one... All
17:38
three of us definitely will be checking out his Final
17:40
Fantasy 7. Nah. You
17:43
know, not interested in that one. Decided
17:45
I'm done now. We remake with... It
17:47
looks decent. Yeah, I'm very excited. You
17:49
two are the big Final Fantasy fans
17:52
here. Whereas I am a
17:54
relative newcomer. But I love the part... I
17:57
love part one so much that... Yeah,
17:59
just can't... with this. Now finally I've never
18:01
played the intermission stuff so I'm gonna
18:03
do that in the run up just to get
18:05
my more just get in tune back with the
18:08
combat I think than anything. Yeah maybe that's a
18:10
good shot I was gonna say don't bother but
18:12
if you want to do I get yourself back
18:14
into the swing of things although say that it'll
18:16
be so heavily tutorialized at the start of Rebirth.
18:18
You'd think so but yeah you must be quite
18:20
excited. I think it's a
18:22
more excited not necessarily for the game
18:25
that that was
18:27
and like the game it's trying to replicate but for
18:29
what the game where the game could go considering
18:31
what they did at the end of remake it's
18:33
now it's like yes you know you're gonna get
18:35
to revisit all that you're
18:38
gonna get to see like modern versions of the things
18:40
you remember as a kid but now it's like what's
18:42
actually gonna happen in them what's like that is
18:44
filling me with a lot of intrigue and hopefully
18:46
it's good it's gonna be long I
18:49
know that I bet you it's gonna be like 80 hour
18:51
game. Yeah I think they've said that
18:53
you can finish it in 40 but I
18:55
think the actual game is supposed to be
18:57
kind of like 80 hours because obviously we're
18:59
finally out in the open world. Final Fantasy
19:01
7 traditionally is obviously technically an open world
19:03
and that it has an overworld but there's
19:05
not a lot to do well there's nothing
19:08
to do in that overworld other than fight
19:10
enemies until you go to locations
19:12
so it'll be interesting to see how
19:14
they've transformed the overworld into an actual
19:16
open world I'm very intrigued about that
19:19
but a lot of a lot
19:21
of my interest is it
19:23
will be the adaptation of arguably the most
19:26
interesting part of the original game it's got
19:28
all of the kind of big beats are
19:30
gonna be in this section including
19:32
meeting my favorite character Sid I love Sid
19:35
so much and we'll get to have hopefully
19:38
all of the Rocket Town stuff and palm
19:40
being hit by a bus okay
19:43
I can't wait for that this is all new to
19:45
me so I you're
19:48
gonna really like the
19:50
gold sauce it's
19:52
a big theme part I don't know what that
19:54
I don't know what you're trying to say about
19:56
me it looked colorful it's a theme part with
19:59
with like loads and loads of minigames.
20:01
Okay, yeah. What's the, in
20:04
the first part, what's the town you go to
20:07
before the Bumble, the Beast, what's that place? Wall
20:09
Market. So that was my favourite part
20:11
of the part one. So
20:13
if it's like that, then I'll put it there.
20:16
There's a haunted house hotel. There's like a big,
20:18
there's a theatre stage where they put on a
20:20
play. I'm into it. There's that big mad house
20:22
you're fighting it again. I
20:25
mean, that's just like a regular enemy that popped up
20:27
in the original. So now they've made it a pop
20:29
battle in this. But yeah, although I've definitely have like
20:31
a, oh, there is a battle arena, isn't there in,
20:34
in gold source? Yeah. That's where you get the, some
20:36
of your ultimate limo breaks like level four limo
20:39
breaks as well. So I'm just looking forward to
20:41
spending lots and lots of time with Aerith. I
20:43
mean, you're going to spend a lot of time
20:45
with this game for sure. Yeah. I'm sure nothing
20:47
bad will happen. There
20:50
we go. Looking further
20:52
ahead, we've got in March, princess
20:55
peach showtime. It's looking quite quiet for
20:57
Nintendo, but for reasons we might talk
21:00
about a little bit later about what
21:02
might be coming this year. But
21:05
it's anyone I, I watched a trailer for
21:07
princess peach showtime. I was like, I'm not sure this
21:09
is, you know, I like Nintendo, but it looks a
21:11
little bit, I don't know. I don't
21:13
want to say basic, but I was watching.
21:15
I was like, it's a little boring.
21:17
Is that fair to say? Yeah. Is it
21:19
like it was a, it's a
21:22
platformer though, right? Like, yeah. And you change
21:24
costumes and you get different abilities. Perfect. It
21:26
might be a little bit of like a
21:28
little, like a media molecule sort of game
21:30
or a sack boy sort of game. Yeah. And
21:32
I mean the level, the level layouts and stuff
21:35
look like kind of rudimentary. I'm not too excited
21:37
for this one, but you know,
21:39
as I say, we'll talk a bit more about
21:41
Nintendo in a little bit alone in the dark.
21:44
Anyone, anyone? I've got my
21:46
eye on it, but yeah, exactly. I, I
21:49
saw a bunch of it at games com
21:51
not last year, but the year before. And
21:54
what they were saying about it has me
21:56
like interested, but then since then the
21:58
more that I kind of seen it, I think this
22:00
has the chance of falling
22:03
flat. I mean game David Harbour
22:05
and Jodie Comer those are two
22:08
Quite like reasonably well-known names and especially on Jodie
22:10
Comer's but I think like a fantastic actress I
22:12
don't know what don't know how much they've paid
22:15
her to do this Well, that's another part that
22:17
concerns me though the desperation of that move potentially
22:19
like yes It could be they just want really
22:21
good at it or it could be we need
22:23
faces in this to sell this game You
22:27
know, I don't have really a historic connection
22:29
to the alone and the dark series. So
22:31
I know yeah I'm sure people enjoy
22:33
it last year was a great year for horror. So
22:35
following up on that is gonna be hard Dragons
22:39
dogma 2 is in March. I know this is
22:41
one a lot of people are
22:44
very excited for a lot of people have a lot like
22:46
almost like a cult following for the first one, right and
22:48
I Can't I'm
22:51
sure it'd be good and I'm Kind
22:53
of all play it but every time I look at the
22:55
game plan, right? This looks I don't know I know a
22:58
lot of people like kind of sight To
23:00
you for lack of a better word the jankyness of
23:02
it is what they love But I watch it. I
23:05
might this doesn't look fun. I
23:07
don't know maybe I'm yeah, maybe I'm wrong
23:09
I think part of it almost comes from
23:11
I've never finished the original dragons don't buy
23:14
but I've played a good share of them
23:17
And it does look like dragons dogma
23:19
2 is more of that game from
23:21
what I understand in development was kind
23:23
of almost Compromised a bit and they
23:25
couldn't do everything they wanted and it
23:27
feels like more than necessarily a true
23:29
sequel This is almost we've now finally
23:31
got the ability to fulfill the original
23:34
design document in its entirety So
23:36
a lot of it does look very similar to the
23:38
original game in the way that
23:41
It doesn't necessarily look like a more polished version
23:43
of the original game is just a better graphics
23:45
version So it does have a lot of that
23:47
jank. I do find that quite
23:50
endearing in its own way and the kind of
23:53
Slightly choppy climbing all over a cyclops to
23:55
stab it in the eye seven times still
23:57
appeals to me the kind of jumping on
23:59
the back of birds and hanging
24:01
off kind of flying dragons and all the monster
24:03
stuff is what appeals to me there's
24:06
a lot of kind of it Elden
24:08
Ring I think had a lot of
24:10
dragons dog mat in it and and
24:12
so therefore the kind of combination there
24:15
appeals to me and so yeah
24:17
this is one of the ones that I have
24:19
got got more than one eye on for this
24:21
year nice and
24:23
we also got rise the Ronin coming out
24:25
March another big open world action
24:29
RPG I mean so I look like
24:31
actually an RPG to me
24:33
it looks like ghosts of Tsushima actually
24:35
made by Japanese people there
24:37
we go it's from Team Ninja who have
24:40
done the neo games right and I'm not sure
24:42
if this I haven't really been pay much attention
24:45
is it this isn't really a Souls like in
24:47
any way is it Isis more Assassin's Creed yeah
24:49
I think yeah it's curious because
24:52
I don't know if you guys feel like this but I
24:54
feel like this one's slightly going under the radar a little bit
24:56
for what effectively could be like
24:58
a huge release you know but
25:01
I've not really thought about it much until
25:03
recently yeah it's a PlayStation 5 exclusive isn't
25:05
it and maybe you might
25:08
find that Sony ramps up the marketing
25:10
significantly kind of next month in February
25:12
to get ready for it but
25:14
it does feel like it could be one of
25:16
those that that really does strike out of nowhere
25:18
or a bit like because their
25:21
previous game was Wollong wasn't it which
25:24
again very much kind of just went under the
25:26
radar and there were a few diehards that went
25:28
for it but otherwise that game really
25:30
didn't get much attention at all it would be a
25:32
shame because this one does look like it it
25:35
could appeal to a much more mainstream audience
25:37
yeah in terms of release dates we know
25:40
that's kind of it for the early part of the year we
25:42
have to zip ahead for a couple more August blacksmith wukong you
25:45
played this at gamescom this year Matt and came
25:48
away thinking this could be brilliant right yeah so
25:50
long as the we didn't get to play a
25:52
lot of the exploration side of it it was
25:54
almost entirely a boss rush kind of demo situation
25:58
those bosses were fantastic if the rest
26:00
of the game which I would imagine is quite
26:02
a substantial amount of it because it won't just
26:04
be bosses with the exploration and the character design
26:06
and the leveling up and all of that. If
26:08
that is as good as the bosses then I
26:10
think this is as good a souls like as
26:12
you could get. I'm very excited
26:14
for this one it looks fantastic. I'm worried that
26:17
you came away saying this is absolutely nailed. I
26:19
want to get through it and I want to
26:21
see it all because it looks like there's some
26:23
dixie beautiful things to be seen in this game
26:25
and I don't want to be stuck on the
26:27
third boss. I feel like
26:29
Eldarring has prepared me for games like this now. If I
26:32
can do Sekiro and I've done every single
26:35
boss in Sekiro completely authentically no thing. If
26:37
I can do that you can do back
26:39
there. I know I can. It's more whether
26:42
other things will come out and I'm like I don't have time
26:44
to dedicate to this. I've recently actually been
26:46
thinking a lot about going back to Sekiro but every
26:48
time I think about it I'm like I
26:51
know I'll play it for four hours get into
26:53
the swing of it and then get distracted by
26:55
work games and then lose all my rhythm again.
26:58
And Space Marine 2. It's shaped up to be
27:01
a good year for Matt
27:03
September is Space Marine 2's release date.
27:06
Again you played it thought it was great. Looks cracking.
27:09
Yeah there we go if you want to get a
27:11
big old sword out and a big old gun
27:13
out and just absolutely demolish thousands of enemies. That's
27:16
the game for you this year I think. Here's
27:19
just a few that we think are coming this
27:21
year that don't have release dates. So my favorite
27:24
or my favorite my most anticipated. We don't know if it's
27:26
coming out this year but we're going to hear a
27:28
lot more about it next week is the Indiana Jones game.
27:31
That is my most anticipated I think.
27:34
I'm hoping because they're revealed they're doing a
27:36
full gameplay reveal now that this could be
27:38
like an October November sort of game. Don't
27:42
have any intel on that but I'm just
27:44
more hoping than anything. Obviously I love Indiana
27:46
Jones more than most things in this world
27:49
I think despite thinking the last few films
27:51
are actually quite bad. How did you get
27:53
around to seeing it? A Darl Destiny. Someone
27:56
hasn't listened to last week's pop song. Sorry. I
27:59
went to see I was so disappointed.
28:01
I thought it was arguably worse
28:03
than Crystal Skull at times. Oh
28:05
really? Yeah. But
28:07
anyway, the Indiana Jones game I'm very
28:10
excited for. Machine games, known for
28:12
knowing how to kill a lot of Nazis in the
28:14
Wolfenstern games. That is something that
28:16
Indiana Jones is quite good at, as well as
28:18
being a big old archaeologist man.
28:21
I have no doubt still, we
28:23
don't really know anything about this game yet, right? We don't
28:25
know how it's really going to play. I think
28:28
they're proving they know
28:30
how to get the action side of
28:32
it down with the shooting mechanics. They're
28:34
like up there with best-in-class stuff. But
28:36
like, how do they approach
28:38
the puzzle side, which is what I want from
28:40
an Indiana Jones game, and the actual feeling like
28:43
you're on an adventure. Basically the uncharted stuff. How
28:45
are they going to mix that into a machine
28:47
games game? Well, have they ever done
28:49
a... Not that we know it's
28:51
a third-person game, but have they ever done a
28:53
third-person game before as well? I feel like they
28:55
would suffer massive backlash if
28:58
they made it a first-person game as
29:00
well. Particularly with some of what we've
29:02
seen recently, particularly Avatar has had a
29:04
lot of backlash for being first-person. The
29:08
general appetite of audiences at the moment, at
29:10
least from what we're seeing from our audiences,
29:12
that people want third-person games. I
29:15
think it will be first-person. First-person,
29:17
yeah. I think
29:20
they are going to get shit for that. But you
29:23
never know, they might come out with an amazing trailer and no one
29:25
cares. But all the biggest games in the
29:27
world right now are third-person, and the audience has been conditioned
29:29
for that, so that's the way. And when you've got a
29:32
character like Indiana Jones in your game, you
29:34
kind of want to see him when you're playing
29:36
him. But maybe that's the way of getting away
29:38
with not having to get Harrison Ford in and
29:41
scan him and DA him. That is a big
29:43
question for me, is the voice, like, are they
29:45
getting an impersonator? Have they got Harrison Ford? Have
29:47
they gone a completely different way
29:49
of it and done the James Bond thing of like, this
29:52
is a different Indiana Jones. I don't know. Who
29:54
knows? We'll learn a lot more next week
29:57
at this Xbox. I do think it's probably going to
29:59
come out this year. year because they've pre-announced that
30:01
you're gonna find out information. Normally when it's something
30:03
that's not come out this year they wouldn't pronounce
30:05
it they would just drop a trailer or a
30:07
quick clip. The fact that they're telling you we
30:09
all gonna find out more means you're gonna get
30:11
something at least a few minutes of meaty explanation
30:14
of what this game is which makes me think
30:16
it's probably coming this year. Well another game. They
30:18
need to do it for financial reasons. Who knows.
30:21
Another game being shown in that stream. Data
30:23
for this year is Avowed. We don't know
30:25
when it's coming this year but it's Sidion's new RPG
30:27
which when it was first revealed
30:29
everyone was very excited for a very cool reveal
30:32
trailer. Then they did last summer they did a
30:34
more like almost gameplay trailer for it and it
30:36
wasn't quite what people were expecting but I still
30:38
think it looks like that good not
30:40
quite you know Elder Scrolls level fantasy RPG
30:42
but that mid tier one that Obsidian do
30:44
quite well with like the Outer Worlds sort
30:46
of stuff. I'll give it a go. I
30:49
don't know how you guys feel. I
30:51
never... I'll give it a go.
30:54
I never finished the Outer Worlds.
30:56
I didn't love it. I
30:59
liked enough of what it was going for but I always go back
31:01
to kind of when
31:03
Obsidian were kind of in their earlier days
31:06
they obviously did Fallout New Vegas which was
31:08
is arguably the best out of the Fallout
31:10
games it's really really well written. They also
31:12
did the sequel to Bioware's Night's The Old
31:14
Republic. They did Night's The Old Republic 2.
31:16
That game quite buggy but also better than
31:18
the original Night's The Republic. They are very
31:20
good at this sort of stuff. Outer
31:24
Worlds wasn't entirely my jam but
31:26
maybe this is my jam.
31:29
It's set in the Pillars of Eternity universe which is
31:31
pretty good and
31:34
yeah like maybe maybe this one is is
31:36
the one that sparks off and we haven't had
31:38
an Elder Scrolls game for ages and
31:40
so there is a bit of that appetite to pull
31:43
into. Absolutely. Also
31:45
in that stream, Hellblade 2. Oh yeah.
31:48
That game never went out. I
31:51
mean it looks stunning. I never finished
31:53
the first one. For some reason I didn't get
31:55
on with it. I feel like I need to
31:57
give it another go because I should love that.
32:00
that game I think like when you look
32:02
at it's got like that is my sort of
32:04
game but it didn't click with me for
32:06
some reason I can't put my finger on it I want to
32:08
give it another go because I kind of
32:10
want to be excited for this one so I do
32:12
think it looks very good but yeah
32:14
I'm not at this point
32:16
I'm not overly excited for it but I
32:19
do know a lot of people are heavily
32:21
anticipating it's revealed in 2019 so it's been
32:23
five years it's been a long time yeah
32:25
that that one's coming this year I imagine
32:27
next week we may well see a release
32:29
date for that come through let's
32:32
do a let's do a speed round for some other
32:34
games coming this year so we've got flintlock siege of
32:36
dawn which I thought was gonna come out last year
32:38
we've got that's cut that game's been quiet for over
32:40
a year now Matt I know you're looking for yeah
32:42
I think Kepler said that they're announcing more stuff about
32:44
it this year I think it's coming this year and
32:46
I hope it's really good because the demo that I
32:48
saw at games com in 2019 was it looked
32:52
really good yeah there we go plucky
32:55
the plucky squire is a game we saw at games
32:57
com last year looks very
32:59
nice if you're looking for like
33:01
a it's an action almost action
33:03
platformer game that's setting a comic
33:05
storybook a child's storybook and it
33:07
looks very nice that one's on
33:09
my radar Silent Hill 2 looks
33:12
like it could be coming this year the remake could
33:16
be another good year for horror I mean this
33:18
is if you put down
33:20
for me what is the scariest game of all
33:22
time this is up there with the likes of
33:25
PT for me but yeah would
33:27
do I need to put do I feel a great
33:29
need to play again no but will I probably see
33:31
how it turns out as well because not
33:33
off to the best start with their Konami's
33:35
like resurgence I know it's not them like
33:38
making it but no I think I have
33:40
a little bit more faith
33:42
in Bloober than most people but
33:45
we'll see we'll see how this one turns
33:47
out another remake metal gear solid 3 snake
33:49
eater I didn't think would be coming this
33:51
year but there was news last week
33:53
that it was like coming this
33:55
year it is the I think it's
33:57
the 20th or 20th anniversary
34:00
of Metal Gear Solid 3 later this year so
34:02
that would make sense maybe if it dropped then.
34:07
This is one of my favourite games ever and
34:09
I am quite wary of it but they're remaking
34:11
it. It seems like it's quite a straightforward remake
34:13
from everything we've seen of it. I think it's
34:15
going to be the game
34:18
with better graphics. It's
34:20
whether they managed to carry over that charm
34:22
and quirkiness. I imagine they will. I'm going
34:24
to say I thought that the last trailer
34:26
that they did which was barely a trailer
34:29
was more just like a tech showcase. It's
34:31
slightly disappointing because it looked pretty but yeah
34:33
like you just said Matt it is the
34:35
same game. What you want out of this
34:37
remake is you want it to be Metal
34:39
Gear 5, that mechanical kind of structure but
34:42
set in the setting with the storyline of
34:44
Metal Gear 3. I want the like
34:47
the the jungly area to be an actual
34:49
jungle. Not just a bunch of cells that
34:51
you move to. It's understandably what
34:53
it was in the original because of the limitations
34:55
but now I feel like we'll be on that.
34:57
You want it to be like the Phantom Pen,
34:59
this huge open area and it's definitely not going
35:01
to be. Stalker
35:04
2, one I can't bring myself
35:06
personally to get too excited about. It's not my
35:08
cup of tea but I don't
35:10
know when this is coming out this year but I
35:13
don't know you played it a bit didn't you
35:15
Matt? It was very janky game. I think it's
35:17
going to be further out than we maybe expect it
35:19
to be. Yeah we might have
35:22
to. Oh we'll talk about that one when
35:24
we know more about it I think. Star
35:26
Wars Outlaws, it was very close to being
35:28
my most anticipated with Indiana Jones I think.
35:30
A slight Lucasfilm, sue me. If
35:34
this is what it promises to be and
35:36
it's almost like GTA Star Wars slash watchdogs
35:39
then it's just going to be very fun by the looks of it.
35:41
I think it's going to be good fun. My
35:44
slight concern is it's going to
35:46
be not
35:49
maybe what we expected, not as much as good as
35:51
we hope it's going to be. I think like the
35:54
Avatar game kind of illustrated a
35:56
good fun game but ultimately forgettable and
35:58
moving on. that maybe it
36:00
might be that as well like it's not they haven't
36:03
got maybe the the naughty dog rock star charm that
36:05
they can bring to these sort of things i think
36:07
from the reveal and the trailer and the gameplay it
36:09
already Showed me it has a lot more
36:12
The writing was a lot more bubbly and a
36:14
lot more charm to it than avatars does i
36:16
think that's just the world of avatar? Doesn't lend
36:18
itself to that like star wars does does it
36:20
like if you you know you could
36:23
so easily it's kind of what we saw in that gameplay
36:25
like Almost do red dead
36:27
in space of like You're essentially
36:29
playing as a smuggler of like a sort of
36:31
roguish cowboy character Like you can have a lot
36:33
of fun in that I think it just feels
36:35
like the mission design is so important like what
36:37
sort of conceits and ideas they come up with
36:39
And if they just default to ubisoft Star
36:42
a line, you know Then it could be
36:44
not as fun as we hope That
36:47
that that demo I think demonstrated some confidence in
36:49
it in that what they showed us was a
36:51
mission, right? It was a miniature mission, but we
36:53
got to see an element of how the stealth
36:55
works how the escalation system works We got all
36:57
of that that is promising and that looks a
36:59
lot better to me than anything that was in
37:01
avatar But
37:04
yeah, I think the we all know what
37:06
ubisoft Games have been like over
37:08
the past kind of like five or six years There's
37:10
been a lot of that kind
37:12
of repetition and kind of sticking
37:15
to the like a base formula
37:17
that always works Never actually
37:19
fails but becomes very stale very
37:21
quickly I mean just Being
37:24
able to seamlessly fly into space as well.
37:26
It's just very yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I've got
37:28
my It's like I do hope it's
37:30
really good This could be the one that
37:32
breaks them old. Yeah, it's like open world, you know, and hopefully
37:34
it is i'm just you know, like Cautiously
37:36
optimistic. Yeah, i'm hoping for watchdogs 2 in space
37:39
as well. And I love watchdogs Well, my my
37:41
hope is is that you know, they won't be
37:43
looking at they will be looking at jedi survivor
37:45
now But obviously they couldn't have for most of
37:47
its development But um even while
37:50
i'm not the biggest fan of fallen order
37:52
that still at least was doing something interesting
37:54
with star wars It wasn't fully successful, but
37:56
it was interesting and my hope is they
37:58
were looking at what ea we're doing
38:00
and Respawn we're doing with Star Wars and thinking
38:02
what can we do that's our own take? Exactly.
38:07
So a couple more games to get
38:09
free before we move on. But uh
38:11
Metaphor Re-Fantasia uh is
38:13
one for me. The new RPG from
38:15
Atlas, the creator of Persona,
38:17
not creator of Persona, Hashino from recent
38:20
Persona games is leading
38:22
this one and yeah
38:24
it's like fantasy Persona basically
38:26
and I'm all in I'll lose 120
38:28
hours to it. It has all
38:31
that Persona style from what we've seen. I'm
38:33
just yeah we're not
38:35
getting Persona 6 anytime soon so this will have to
38:37
do. So yeah come
38:40
with me play Metaphor. I
38:42
will admit the name is just terrible.
38:44
Oh yeah. Metaphor Re-Fantasia is just there
38:47
is a terrible name but you know
38:49
maybe it'll really mean something incredible once you
38:51
play it. Who knows. Vampire
38:54
The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 is that finally
38:56
coming out this year Matthew firstly? I
39:00
couldn't tell you Simon. There's been
39:02
several trailers now though which does
39:04
suggest that they think it's coming
39:06
out this year. Yeah. I
39:08
didn't play the first one but this one just
39:11
the amount of in the
39:13
way to word I don't know I just find this this
39:15
game and it's the way it's
39:17
been made just intriguing. I'm more
39:20
intrigued by it than wanting to play
39:22
it. Yeah yeah the original is obviously kind of
39:24
like a cult classic and very very jank but
39:26
has a huge amount of kind of love put
39:28
into it and is very very interesting. This
39:32
one feels maybe a little safer than
39:34
that but I like the setting. It
39:36
obviously has an immersive sim element
39:39
to it as well as the RPG stuff so
39:41
I have an eye on it because I've
39:43
not really seen enough of it to tell
39:45
you anymore. Will we
39:48
play Judas this year? Ken Levine's new game.
39:50
I hope so. Everybody hopes
39:52
so. Yeah. I don't think we will. No.
39:54
You don't think we will? I think we might. I
39:57
don't know. I'm basing on nothing. We've seen one
39:59
trailer. a long time ago. But
40:02
it must have been making this for years. It
40:04
must be close, surely. I don't know. We
40:06
don't really know what it is. It just looked a bit bioshocky, right? And
40:10
that's what we want. There's all the murmurings of
40:12
what his vision for a game was that had
40:14
been going on for years, right? Whether
40:16
there's actually... Is that? I don't know. Yeah, my
40:18
memory of what that vision was, it was to
40:20
do with kind of making stories almost like Lego
40:22
bricks. So you'd be able to have all your
40:24
story was broken down into your components and how
40:27
the player would play would dictate how the story
40:29
was built around them, which meant that you could
40:31
replay it over and over and those bricks would
40:33
be done in a different way. That
40:35
sounds incredibly complicated to R&D,
40:38
then prototype, then perfect,
40:41
and actually get built. And also from
40:43
what I've heard of stories that can
40:45
live in the past, he's not someone
40:47
to necessarily compromise vision. And also he
40:49
changes his mind frequently as well from the
40:52
story. So I can imagine this being in
40:54
some sort of... Like maybe they're
40:56
confident right now that they're going to release it
40:58
this year, but then things changing and yeah, I
41:00
don't know. I'm hopeful. Who knows? We
41:02
probably won't. We'll see more of it this year, I'm
41:04
sure. But we'll play it as another question. Same
41:06
with Hades too. I don't know if that'll be out
41:09
even in early access later this year, but I'm
41:11
going forward to it. Just give me more Hades,
41:13
basically. Hades was fantastic. I want
41:15
more Hades. Eldon
41:17
Ring DLC, Matt. We'll be playing that
41:19
this year, won't we? I would definitely
41:21
be playing it last year. Yeah, I
41:24
think this year's a good shot and this is
41:26
my most anticipated game of the year, even though
41:28
it's DLC. So I guess it's for many people.
41:30
That was Cyberpunk last year, right? But
41:33
yeah, more Eldon Ring and FromSoft's
41:36
DLCs tend to be big, chunky,
41:38
meaningful additions to the game. And
41:41
that's exactly what I expect of Shadow of the
41:43
O'Tree. I'm going to have to relearn
41:45
that game because they've probably absolutely nerfed my build I
41:47
had or something. I'm just going to be useless.
41:49
Were you a Hothrost Stomp guy? I was
41:51
for a while, but then they nerfed that
41:53
before I finished playing. So I did have
41:55
to realize I was just very heavy, like
41:58
Dex swordplay stuff. I
42:00
mean that's a lot of similar to what I
42:02
do. I'm a big Dex guy. That's still the
42:04
last time I played it Which is a few
42:06
months ago now, but it was still pretty viable
42:09
Good good. Good. Yeah, I will
42:11
definitely be playing this last up
42:13
for games. I said Nintendo
42:15
are quiet Switch 2 must
42:18
be coming this year. I or whatever it is whether
42:20
it's called the switch to is probably not when you
42:22
know, which Can you remember? When
42:25
they announced the switch for how long it
42:27
was before it released in
42:29
my head It was only a few months. It
42:31
wasn't long switch. I I think Summer
42:34
late summer maybe we could
42:36
get it I don't know like we
42:38
need a new like super Mario wonder having
42:40
a fun time with it, but we need
42:42
a new 3d Mario Please oh it like
42:44
no doubt in my mind that this new
42:46
device will launch with a new 3d Yeah,
42:48
I think they've been sitting on this for
42:51
a couple years Yeah, I read and probably
42:53
breath of the world and tears the kingdom
42:55
like remastered or whatever. They want to
42:57
call it like deluxe Also,
43:00
Mario Kart 9 is in the works or we surprised if
43:02
that was with within a year of
43:04
that coming out as well I mean that's a
43:06
system seller, isn't there? You know a new
43:09
3d Mario a new Mario
43:11
heart with all new tracks and all new like,
43:13
you know and Chinese elder Yeah, yeah, you're kind
43:15
of winning there I said switch was unveiled on
43:18
October 20th and then it came out on March
43:20
3rd, so there's five months in between Yeah
43:24
Feels like it could happen feels like you know summer
43:27
announcement with a you know Winter time
43:29
or and you know like everyone's probably expecting a
43:31
switch to just like a more powerful one No,
43:33
Nintendo will be something completely different and wacky and
43:35
they'll risk everything That's
43:38
why I generally think we'll dictate the
43:40
software line up like like
43:42
if if it is something crazy They've
43:44
changed control schemes for that They will
43:47
absolutely have the flagship games that celebrate
43:49
those new features if it's
43:51
more power then it could be Yeah,
43:53
it could just be a new tears of kingdom
43:56
upgraded I
43:58
have a feeling that it will be I think
44:01
it's gonna be, you know, for lack of a better
44:03
term, the super switch because They
44:05
really burnt themselves bad with the Wii U
44:07
right going from this one of the most
44:10
successful consoles of all time one of the
44:12
most accessible consoles of all time to a
44:15
Thing that even I didn't know what they were
44:17
announcing when I was watching it on stage and
44:19
I was a games journalist So
44:22
I think they'll have learned their lesson. The
44:24
switch is one of the is is is
44:27
a Phenomenon in itself. They
44:29
will I think it will be switched
44:31
to and you could also argue that
44:33
they have positive lessons from it Iterating
44:36
on hardware in the past with the Game
44:38
Boy the Game Boy Advance the DS to
44:41
the 3ds and the DS light and stuff
44:43
Like just adding that extra some
44:45
extra element. That's a sellable feature, but
44:47
still maintaining the core functionality Yeah,
44:50
well that's all the Game
44:52
stuff we're gonna go through. What was
44:54
your most anti-pemos at start was? I think
44:57
so. So was although I do I am
44:59
like pretty confident This is not based on
45:01
anything that there'll be Resident Evil 9 or
45:03
whatever. They call it will probably be this
45:05
year It definitely announced it because village came
45:07
out in like 2021 I
45:09
think so it's about three years and Capcom
45:11
are nothing but proficient in release and Resident
45:13
Evil games So I feel like 9 is
45:15
next on the docket. I mean, they've
45:17
got Resident Evil 5 remake, but you feel like the next big
45:21
New entry also what they're gonna call it
45:23
how they're gonna get Ix into
45:25
the title crucifix is up for
45:27
grabs I guess There'll
45:30
be something but yeah that if that gets announced
45:32
this year that obviously that big site especially considering
45:35
how they left village Definitely feels like
45:37
they're due Refresh.
45:40
Yeah, I'm excited to see where if they
45:42
stick with first person or whether it's a
45:44
return to third person whether it's a Like
45:47
a soft reset on the universe again
45:49
like seven sort of was yeah, or
45:51
whether this is gonna be packed full
45:53
of Wesker And well, if you remember
45:56
the end of village as well, it
45:58
was very sort of a false circle
46:00
like the story beats of how they wrapped up this
46:02
went back to the original first Resident Evil and sort
46:04
of wrapped the whole story up yeah it's definitely felt
46:06
like they were just drawing a line for it and
46:08
now like we can still maintain
46:11
that continuity but we moved to a different
46:13
part of the world or a different time
46:15
period and have you tell a new story
46:17
there yeah it's exciting to see what the fuck was. Smashing
46:19
if they're just like they're looking at Alone in the Dark coming
46:21
out and they're like I screw you we're gonna do Resident Evil
46:23
1940. I I
46:25
would love that though I mean I know it'd be a
46:28
nucky Alone in the Dark I think that's gonna have
46:30
its own problems anyway but I
46:32
feel like yeah like revisiting like the
46:34
origins of all these virus stuff but
46:36
from a different perspective in a different
46:38
time period would be awesome yeah
46:41
you know and we means we wouldn't end up maybe not
46:43
end up in a secret lab at the end of the
46:45
game as well yeah whatever it is like I over
46:48
the last kind of five or six years my
46:50
love for Resident Evil is really matured and like
46:52
I really am into it at this point so
46:55
I think I'll be as long as it's
46:57
not six or yeah I'm not I'm not
46:59
big on five either but whatever they've been
47:01
doing recently if it's if it's something that
47:03
iterates on that I'll be fully sold well
47:05
it's an exciting time as well for Resident
47:07
Evil fans because it's almost like they've
47:09
got to point out where the track is not laid
47:11
out in front of them because even with five and
47:13
six remakes if they decide to do that and Code
47:16
Veronica they have to rethink them yeah they can't just
47:18
do what they did with two and four which although
47:20
you know they've added new elements are basically the same
47:22
story really five and
47:24
six six especially would desperately need a rethink
47:26
so it's interesting to see what they come
47:28
up with okay it wouldn't be the idea
47:30
in UK podcast about a few minutes and
47:32
resident evil chance spring through the I'm actually
47:35
what you're excited for and
47:37
you're excited it's fine what are you excited for
47:39
though I gen underscore UK feedback at I gen
47:41
calm let us know what games films and TV
47:43
is you're most looking forward to TVs TV shows
47:45
you're most looking forward to this year I gen
47:48
on school UK feedback at I gen calm we're
47:51
gonna quickly go through TV and film but

50:17
TV. Last year was a fantastic
50:19
year for TV. This year I
50:22
was looking through not actually a ton of things
50:24
we know are coming this year, but there
50:26
are a few interesting things starting out with
50:29
the new series of True Detective Night Country. That
50:32
starts as soon as this weekend and from
50:34
everything I've heard, people are going mad for
50:36
it. A lot of murders going on. Looks
50:38
very good. I mean they know what they're
50:40
doing right again.
50:50
Jodie Foster and Evoking Silence of
50:52
the Lambs. I'm very
50:54
excited for this. Season 1
50:56
is a near perfect season of television I
50:58
think. 2 obviously not fantastic. 3
51:01
I do think is fantastic.
51:04
They're taking a good break on this in
51:06
True Detective this back. I'm
51:09
sure we'll talk about that maybe even next week
51:11
once the first episode has dropped and we can
51:13
say what you think. Later in
51:15
January, one for me and all the
51:17
dads out there as well, Masters of
51:19
the Air, the new in the series,
51:21
the new Spielberg and Hanks World War
51:24
II series following on from Band of
51:26
Brothers and the Pacific. This one's all
51:28
about the Air Force. I
51:31
don't know too much about the real life story of these people
51:33
because I've avoided it because I want to enjoy the show. Starring
51:36
Austin Butler, Barry Keogan. Good
51:38
bunch of people in there. I'm sure all
51:41
the dads out there will enjoy it. You're
51:44
a dad now. Are you going to get into this stuff? I
51:46
don't know. You must like Band of Brothers,
51:48
right? Yeah, I enjoyed
51:50
it but I never had the
51:52
obsession with it that a lot
51:54
of people had. I don't
51:57
know. Maybe. I think I'll see what people think
51:59
of it first. and then maybe just watch
52:01
it. It's all gonna be on Apple TV.
52:03
It's a more unusual situation for them to
52:05
be in terms of setting, right, because the
52:09
Pacific and Band of Brothers are set on
52:11
the ground where there's obviously a lot of
52:13
intense combat, and not to say that air
52:15
combat is not intense, but from a visual
52:17
design, it's not having gore spread all over
52:19
the place or the interesting kind of ground
52:21
tactics and moving up and stuff. So it'll
52:23
be interesting to see what sort
52:26
of a show it is. Yeah, yeah, I'm
52:28
intrigued. February, the TV series
52:30
of Mr. and Mrs. Smith is coming
52:32
out. Starring Donald
52:35
Glover and Maya Erskine,
52:37
who is the voice actor of The
52:39
Samurai and Blue Eye Samurai. The
52:42
trailer for this looks very fun. The amount of
52:44
guest stars they have in this as well, like
52:46
Paul Dano popping up, John Turturro, loads
52:49
of people. This is coming out on
52:51
Prime Video. It's not
52:53
quite a straight adaptation of the film, Mr.
52:55
and Mrs. Smith, with Brad Pitt and Angelina
52:57
Jolie, but a different twist on it. But
53:02
it looks, I don't know, it looks like
53:04
it could be fun. I trust most things
53:06
Donald Glover gets involved with have a level
53:09
of quality to them. So I'm hopeful, it
53:11
looks fun. There you go, Dallas
53:13
of Shokshu, a sight new to watch. I generally
53:15
didn't know that was coming. And I always like,
53:19
you gotta feel skeptical about these sort of
53:21
things, right? But like the cast, they have
53:24
to put their names, these things. So it's
53:26
usually a good sign of maybe there's some
53:28
quality. Yeah, I'm excited. I'm
53:30
into it. I think this
53:32
is the, originally it was gonna be Donald Glover
53:34
and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, but she had to drop out
53:36
for, I don't know why, but that would have
53:38
been amazing. I'm sure this will still be amazing.
53:41
Also in February, the last ever season of Kirby and
53:43
Fuse Nothing is coming out. I
53:46
can't wait, but also I'll be sad because
53:48
no more Larry David, but I
53:50
hope it, I hope they get out on a
53:53
bank because it's been a mostly consistent show for
53:55
I think nine seasons now, but they also had
53:57
a couple of little lulls. I just hope this
53:59
is, like a banging season to go out on.
54:01
Feels like this has been coming for a long time
54:04
like... He's not a
54:06
young man. Yeah but did they not say they
54:08
were going to cancel it like several years ago
54:10
as well? I don't know. But I kind of
54:13
drifted away from it but every time I go back and
54:15
watch episode I still enjoy it. It's so funny. It's up
54:17
there with like my favourite ever shows at this point I
54:19
think. I'm going to get you to
54:21
watch it one day Matt. You'll love it. One day. One
54:23
day. March. The three
54:26
body problem on Netflix
54:28
from the creators of Game of Thrones.
54:30
Benny Orf and Vice. I watched
54:32
the trailer for this because it came out a couple of days ago. Definitely
54:35
looks like Netflix taking a big budget swing
54:38
on a series. I'm hoping probably for a Game
54:40
of Thrones sort of thing. I
54:42
don't know a lot about... Apparently these are really big
54:45
selling like novels. I don't know. This is
54:47
the first I ever heard of them. But
54:50
they're fucking colossal. I
54:52
can remember book talk is a thing that I
54:54
see a lot on TikTok. People discussing what they've
54:57
been reading and this has always
54:59
been a massive kind of go-to book
55:01
for people. Yeah isn't
55:03
it about... So this is sci-fi.
55:05
It's not fantasy just because Benny Orf and
55:08
Vice are involved. It's about people
55:10
living the past, present and future science to
55:12
do if that's some sort of sci-fi element.
55:14
I'm not entirely sure. I've kept away
55:16
from it and quite on. I do like to read
55:19
but I'm not the biggest reader. So I've
55:21
not read this. I will almost
55:23
certainly watch the show. I
55:26
still like Benny Orf and Vice even though I know that
55:28
a lot of people got very angry with them. It was
55:30
phenomenal. Yeah. It was incredible.
55:34
They rushed the last season but mostly
55:36
an incredible television show. Yeah I'd take
55:38
more of the former stuff than the
55:40
latter but that was I'd say that was brilliant. So
55:43
I've got some hope that this will be pretty good.
55:45
They really want you to know it's by the
55:48
Game of Friends page don't they because like John
55:50
Bradley's and Lee on Cullingham's in it as well.
55:52
Making sure Game of Friends are alumna in it
55:54
too. It's like yeah I'm definitely gonna
55:56
check it out. I don't know much about it at all. I'm
55:58
just looking at the Wikipedia. coming
56:01
in March on that flex April we're getting
56:03
the fallout TV show everything
56:05
I've seen of this looks right it
56:08
looks like it they're doing fallout well we'll
56:10
see like when we actually watch it what
56:12
the actual we don't
56:14
really know what the drive of the story is
56:16
yet yeah I do worry it's gonna be more
56:18
halo than last of us I
56:21
don't know I feel like maybe
56:23
I'll be somewhere in between I don't know I what I
56:25
liked is that it seemed to have a
56:28
bit of the weirdness and a bit of
56:30
the like humor that fall I think it
56:32
could easily have been just a dark show
56:34
yeah but they've actually remembered that fallout is
56:36
actually very funny and weird and there seems
56:38
to be quite a bit of that in
56:40
there yeah it doesn't look as like I
56:42
wanted a little bit of the fucked up
56:44
weird that's in the original games where
56:47
this is very full out for which in
56:49
its own way was almost like a soft reset of
56:51
fallout it kind of took a bit of the grime
56:53
out of it but
56:56
everything that was in that trailer kind of worked
56:59
for me like I was like yeah
57:01
this looks like a show that is
57:03
done good it's I I'm not as
57:05
worried about the halo effect purely because
57:08
it's Amazon who seems to put a
57:10
lot more money into their shows than
57:12
Paramount do the parent halo was really
57:14
cheap and really felt like knockabout cosplay
57:17
stuff I didn't quite get that
57:19
from this I did think
57:21
it looked a little bit cheap but I
57:23
also think fallout sort of in general the
57:25
art style like the way people dress in
57:27
that world and then how to make those
57:29
fault those fault suits look not a little bit
57:31
cheap I think but even like the Brotherhood of
57:33
Steel out there's like kind of like I thought
57:36
they look like but they look like the game
57:38
you know and then they are being faithful to
57:40
it it's just what's in the
57:42
game is yeah I don't know I generally
57:44
don't know how this is no
57:46
idea how this is gonna be received I'm
57:49
hopeful summer house
57:51
of the dragon season to you
57:55
like a dragon thing yeah it's coming mate
57:57
like it's not apparently it's coming yeah they
57:59
just another a locked in date. They
58:01
said early summer and they've changed it
58:03
to like just summer now which means
58:06
August probably. Yes
58:08
very excited. When they released the trailer I
58:10
went back and re-watched the first season again
58:12
and then I reread the book again. I
58:14
just love it. So you know what's coming
58:16
are we in for some without spoiling anything
58:18
we're in for some good stuff? Oh yeah.
58:21
I like the first season but I did think it
58:24
was a whole season of set up right mostly. Yeah
58:26
kind of but then that's how
58:28
it really sort of lands in this
58:31
season I guess because we've spent so much time
58:33
seeing what could have happened with this family how they
58:35
could have all just got along and
58:38
now they're now in the Civil War and
58:40
it's it gets very very mucky. I'm sure
58:42
there's gonna be some mucky stuff in this
58:44
show. Oh so I remember when I read
58:46
the book and after again after watching the
58:48
show and I remember one little bit and
58:50
I remember looking away I was like this
58:52
bit is gonna be the end of the
58:54
first episode guarantee and I know what the
58:56
episode title is called so it's definitely that.
58:59
It's a proper shocking moment. It's like a
59:01
red wedding sort of level moment and I
59:04
think the end of the first episode is
59:06
gonna be phenomenal people gonna be talking. Okay
59:09
the tease is there. Is there
59:11
gonna be plenty more Damon because
59:13
I think Matt Smith is phenomenal
59:15
as Damon. Damon, yeah Damon's in
59:17
it. He's like he's almost like
59:20
the key general commander of that
59:22
side of the war. He's very
59:24
good at being horrible isn't he?
59:26
Yeah. Also in autumn the Penguin
59:28
TV show I don't know how I thought
59:30
about this I really liked the Batman a
59:32
lot the 2020 film. When I watched
59:36
that though I didn't go god do you know
59:38
I need more of more of Colin Farrell's Penguin
59:40
as a TV show. I assume
59:43
it's gonna be like almost like a
59:45
crime show. I'm imagining almost like Bulldog
59:47
Empire in Gotham. That's the highest this
59:49
could be but I'm just
59:51
confused a bit about what this is. Am
59:53
I the only person who's not interested in
59:55
other stories from Gotham? Don't
59:57
have the Batman. Yeah like I just think that's a I
1:00:00
feel like they've tried this a few times and obviously it
1:00:02
all depends on how well it's written. If it's
1:00:04
a really well-written show then you forget all that. But the
1:00:07
idea of doing a show in Gotham and Batman
1:00:09
and all. Yeah, I think you can do it
1:00:11
for maybe one-offs and stuff. Like, I still think
1:00:13
Joker is a very good film. And the actors
1:00:16
know Batman in all really. True. True. But Penguin,
1:00:18
I don't... They're just making a
1:00:20
crime drama in Gotham, aren't they really? It's going
1:00:22
to be a mafia film, like a mafia series.
1:00:24
But I don't know. I think the main thing
1:00:26
I really liked about the Batman, aside
1:00:29
from it being a genuinely brilliant film, is
1:00:32
that it was a return to the Christopher Nolan
1:00:34
style of making a Batman film in that it
1:00:37
is just what it is. And then it gets two
1:00:40
sequels and then you've got a lovely trilogy. I
1:00:42
don't need everything to be a universe.
1:00:44
I don't need all of this nonsense
1:00:46
spin-off on the side. And
1:00:49
I really hoped that the Reeves bit of
1:00:51
Batman was going to be the Nolan-style stuff
1:00:53
again. And it turns out that it's not.
1:00:56
Feels a bit like lacking a bit of class,
1:00:58
doesn't it? Yeah. It's a prestigious
1:01:01
short film series that you're making and then the
1:01:04
money men step in and how do we
1:01:06
make this thing dry? Yeah.
1:01:08
That's all we know dated-wise. But here's a
1:01:10
few others that might be coming this year,
1:01:13
or are coming this year. We just don't know when. Devil
1:01:15
May Cry animated series is coming
1:01:17
to Netflix from the creators of Castlevania. That
1:01:20
will, I'm sure, be
1:01:23
enjoyed by a lot of people. There you
1:01:25
go. The Acolyte is the Star
1:01:27
Wars show we're getting this year. Very
1:01:29
missed. Like, we really still don't know a lot about this.
1:01:33
But does sound maybe it would be a little
1:01:35
bit on the darker side. I don't know. I'm
1:01:37
hoping for more of the Andor side
1:01:39
of things. Sadly, we aren't getting Andor season two
1:01:41
this year. That's not till next year. The Acolyte
1:01:44
is the Old Republic one. Is
1:01:46
it that? The one starring your
1:01:48
squid game lad in. Yes. I
1:01:50
think that's that. Yeah. I'm
1:01:53
intrigued. More intrigued. We don't know a lot about it.
1:01:55
With that, the other ones. I
1:01:58
still haven't watched this so. I do
1:02:00
actually hear quite good things about Soka, but
1:02:03
I never had the connection to that character So I didn't
1:02:05
go for it. I might catch up on that some point.
1:02:08
Next up is my most anticipated TV
1:02:11
show of the year which has been I feel like
1:02:13
has been coming for a while is The Sympathiser Do
1:02:15
you guys know about The Sympathiser? It
1:02:18
is Park Chan Wook doing a HBO
1:02:20
and A24 series, which is enough to
1:02:22
make my skin Just
1:02:25
bump up in all goosebumps Robert
1:02:27
Downey Jr. is starring in this As
1:02:30
a man who just seems to play lots of different
1:02:33
roles He's sort of a spy if you
1:02:35
don't know this is based on the book called
1:02:37
The Sympathiser, which is about a Member
1:02:40
is set in the in the
1:02:42
Vietnam War and it's about
1:02:44
a North Vietnamese plant in The
1:02:47
South Vietnamese army who's forced to flee to
1:02:49
the US at the end of the war
1:02:51
and it's kind of about him
1:02:54
kind of struggling with this new life and
1:02:56
it's like a lot of spy work going
1:02:58
on and Yeah, if you watch the trailer
1:03:00
for this Robert Downey Jr. Just in a
1:03:03
load of ridiculous different disguises It looks like
1:03:05
it'll be very fun. It's kind of it's
1:03:07
like a dark comedy drama But yeah, Park
1:03:09
Chan Wook his visual style is
1:03:12
up there with with any ones So
1:03:14
yeah, I cannot wait for that
1:03:16
one. That's my most anticipated TV The
1:03:20
Final season of you Dale you used to come
1:03:22
into an end We go
1:03:24
that we all know is terrible. I've
1:03:27
never really watch it I mean, I've seen I
1:03:29
thought you did watch it My wife watched it
1:03:31
and I would walk past and see odd little
1:03:33
my I've seen every episode despite whenever I watch
1:03:35
again What am I doing? I?
1:03:37
remember my over in the third was it
1:03:40
the third season the most recent one and
1:03:42
I asked I was like What do you
1:03:44
think of watch fingers? She's like she even
1:03:46
she was like it's gone off the deep
1:03:48
end It's like it's gone really shit now.
1:03:50
She's oh, yeah, it's absurd. It's so weird
1:03:52
and yeah quite annoying But watch it all
1:03:56
We might get squid game season 2 at the end of
1:03:58
this year. I'm very I'm just
1:04:00
wondering what they're going to do with it because the whole conceit
1:04:03
of Squid Game, they can't just run it back, can
1:04:05
they? What is it supposed to be
1:04:07
about the game makers? Yeah, I
1:04:10
just obviously the story was written
1:04:12
as a story that had an end. And
1:04:14
I think the creator even said at the time when it came
1:04:16
out, it's like, oh, I never planned for a sequel or anything.
1:04:18
And then obviously it was so
1:04:20
successful. He's kind of been forced into writing
1:04:22
more, I think. Never felt good. That's where
1:04:24
I worry. Yeah. But, you know, first season
1:04:27
was very good. So, you know,
1:04:29
who am I to tell? I know 100% get
1:04:31
a season two of the reality show version because
1:04:33
they've built all those sets already. Yeah,
1:04:35
you can't waste that money. We don't know if that's coming.
1:04:39
They haven't said it is, but the final
1:04:41
season, Stranger Things maybe at the end of
1:04:43
this year, I think. And they only started
1:04:45
filming it, though. Yeah, you never know. Given
1:04:48
my whole year could have it. They might
1:04:50
they'll probably do the whole two part thing,
1:04:52
right, of dropping six. And then another I
1:04:54
wouldn't be surprised if that's next year, considering
1:04:56
the visual effects demand. Mm
1:04:59
hmm. Now, neither would I. Same with Severance
1:05:01
season two. Maybe we'll get that layer
1:05:03
in here. You see Apple TV dropped
1:05:05
a little hit. They just posted a
1:05:07
picture of a still
1:05:09
of the show with like no context,
1:05:11
which obviously just winding people up probably.
1:05:13
But it's been what? A
1:05:15
couple of years now since the season. Didn't
1:05:18
Ben Stiller say something about it recently? I
1:05:21
feel like he said they're working on it
1:05:23
or something. But it seems like it's still
1:05:25
in production. However, not one is
1:05:27
like Stranger Things that is heavily reliant on a
1:05:30
special effects you imagine. So you never
1:05:32
know. I'm hopeful we'll get some of that later
1:05:34
this year. We don't know. So,
1:05:37
yeah, any TV there that jumped out to you
1:05:39
guys that you're looking forward to? I think Severance
1:05:41
is basically my favorite thing of about the last
1:05:43
five or six years. So if that comes back,
1:05:46
absolutely that. But in terms of things
1:05:48
that are guaranteed, it's literally the thing that's coming out
1:05:50
next the end of the week, basically. So to detective
1:05:52
for me. And
1:05:55
I'm guessing House of the Dragon for Dale. Yeah, House
1:05:57
of the Dragon, but also Severance as well. I think
1:05:59
it's like. that was to come out this
1:06:01
year I would be extremely excited. Everyone get
1:06:03
on the sympathiser train with me. And
1:06:06
what about the Last of
1:06:08
Us series too? Have they officially said that next year?
1:06:10
I think they'll be making that this year. I think
1:06:13
they said it's next year. I
1:06:15
think it's 2020. It's usually when they've announced like key cast
1:06:17
members like they announced Abby the other day right? I think
1:06:20
filming is starting right now so we'll
1:06:22
see. See
1:06:25
where they go with that. I'm very intrigued to see
1:06:27
how they approach the next
1:06:29
part of that story. Let's go
1:06:31
on to films. I've got loads of
1:06:33
films here. I can't mention them all because
1:06:35
we will be here forever. But what
1:06:38
will we talk about? I've got poor
1:06:40
things and the holdovers are finally coming to the
1:06:42
UK this week and next. They've been out in
1:06:44
America for ages. I've already seen poor things. Oh
1:06:47
you've been in the US. I'm gonna go
1:06:49
see that very soon I think. Did you
1:06:51
enjoy it? Very good. Yeah it's very very
1:06:53
good. It is much weirder than
1:06:55
I think I expect. And that's even from
1:06:57
a Jorgis Lanthamos thing. But
1:07:00
it's got kind of that weird fairy
1:07:02
tale kind of vibe to it. Almost
1:07:04
kind of you know Barry Sonnefeld kind
1:07:07
of style that he uses for Adam's
1:07:09
family in the series of unfortunate events. It's
1:07:11
got that kind of staged vibe to it
1:07:14
but with Emma Stone
1:07:16
as a weird childlike Frankenstein
1:07:18
thing on a journey of
1:07:21
sexual liberation. In the
1:07:23
curse she is doing some unbelievable act
1:07:25
as ever. I've watched the first two
1:07:27
episodes. It's very good. Last
1:07:30
episode of that I think is right now. Anyway
1:07:32
yeah the holdovers
1:07:35
I want to watch as well which looks very
1:07:38
good. Weird to say it's kind of like
1:07:40
Christmas film but we're getting it in the
1:07:42
middle of January. So that's Oscar Bate releases
1:07:45
for you isn't it. We always get them in January.
1:07:48
But it came out in America like two
1:07:50
months ago. What's going on. The
1:07:52
Zone of Interest is coming out in
1:07:55
February. This is Jonathan Glazer's new film
1:07:57
who made Sexy Beast and Under the
1:07:59
Skid. in, among others. This
1:08:02
is a, I'm seeing this
1:08:04
next week actually, so I can give some thoughts
1:08:06
on it next week maybe, but
1:08:10
it's about the family that lived
1:08:12
next to Auschwitz and tried to
1:08:15
live a happy family life whilst
1:08:17
also working at Auschwitz. It's meant
1:08:19
to be unbelievably good obviously,
1:08:22
quite tough, I'll just have to matter. But
1:08:24
yeah, I'm seeing that next week so I'll give
1:08:27
some more developed thoughts once I've seen it. But
1:08:29
Jonathan Glaser only made four films in like 25
1:08:31
years, but when he does make them, they
1:08:34
are very good. So I look forward to that.
1:08:36
Argyle, does this
1:08:39
look fun? The new Henry Cavill
1:08:42
spy film within a spy film
1:08:44
film? It looks
1:08:46
fun. Whether it's good or not.
1:08:48
Matthew Form is very up and down to
1:08:50
me. He can be very good. He's been
1:08:52
on the down for a couple of films
1:08:54
recently. I don't know if you've even got
1:08:57
through the Kingsman. I only
1:08:59
got through it and I didn't watch
1:09:01
that one. It's got like one fun
1:09:03
twist kind of like midway through where
1:09:05
someone dies, but aside from
1:09:07
that, I think it does. It
1:09:10
has big Kingsman energy this, doesn't it? And I do
1:09:13
like the first Kingsman. I do think it's very good.
1:09:15
That sounds great. But
1:09:17
yeah, it's about, is it
1:09:21
Bryce Dallas Howard? Character is a novelist who
1:09:23
writes spy novels, but then characters and things
1:09:25
from her spy novels start happening in real
1:09:27
life. It's like that film that came out,
1:09:29
was it last year or two years ago
1:09:31
with Shannon Tatum in? Remember when
1:09:33
it was with Sandra Bullock? The Lost City?
1:09:35
Oh yeah. Yeah, the Lost City. So you
1:09:37
can see really, she was a writer and
1:09:40
he was like an actor portraying the character
1:09:42
or something. I actually think the kind of
1:09:44
like weird mystery that they've meta built around
1:09:46
the film is more interesting than the film
1:09:48
itself in that they have
1:09:50
said that the film is
1:09:53
based on the novel by Ellie Conway. But
1:09:55
Ellie Conway is the character in the film
1:09:57
played by Bryce Dallas Howard. So
1:09:59
now everybody's like. Well, who's written
1:10:01
who is Ellie Conway in real life
1:10:03
and people have decided that it's Taylor
1:10:05
Swift Of
1:10:07
course there is a massive conspiracy that Taylor Swift
1:10:09
is the writer when it is very clearly They've
1:10:12
just got a ghost writer to write
1:10:14
a novel so they can pretend that
1:10:17
the film is based on the novel
1:10:24
Does not have time to be right a novel if
1:10:26
you see how much storage you did She's too busy
1:10:28
flying around and going to different football games Exactly
1:10:31
and I'll watch that as well February
1:10:34
also who's excited for Madam Webb
1:10:38
I went to see Oh
1:10:41
anyone but you don't go see that film by the way it
1:10:43
fucking sucks And then beforehand they
1:10:45
showed the trailer for Madam Webb and I leaned over to her if
1:10:47
I was like this Well,
1:10:50
what's the line about spy This
1:10:54
person knew my mom when she was in
1:10:56
the Amazon researchers fighters just before she died
1:11:01
It does look bad Yeah,
1:11:05
I think more than like
1:11:07
craving which I'm sure we'll get to later looks
1:11:09
just looks Garbage dogshit. This
1:11:11
looks like the sort of garbage dogshit that
1:11:14
I could probably have a bit of a
1:11:16
laugh at I think
1:11:18
there's some really weird like like dark
1:11:20
spider-man and Dakota
1:11:22
Johnson doing a very very terrible job
1:11:24
by the look of it with defending
1:11:27
people with a Manhole cover she
1:11:29
can be a very good actress. She
1:11:32
makes some bizarre decisions constantly cast in
1:11:34
terrible project Yeah, I don't know what's
1:11:36
well Like do you
1:11:38
guys think Sydney Sweeney is pretty good a new for you.
1:11:41
I've never seen you for you I do
1:11:43
actually think she can act cuz she is shite in
1:11:45
that film I just said anyone but you and she'll
1:11:48
be and she'll be shite and madam I have to
1:11:50
know what you're good at right this time some people
1:11:52
can do come with these I love Glen Powell that
1:11:54
I love it. I'm good. Yeah, he's
1:11:56
okay in that film But it's just the right is
1:11:58
really draggy. He's seen everybody want some. Yes I
1:12:01
love that film. I love it as well. He's
1:12:03
so good. I love anything Glenn Powell's with. He's
1:12:05
in a couple more things coming up this year
1:12:07
that we'll talk about. Drive
1:12:09
Away Dolls. Do you guys know about Drive Away
1:12:11
Dolls? Ethan Coen's new film,
1:12:13
not a Coen Brothers film. Oh
1:12:16
I have heard of it. Just Ethan Coen. It stars
1:12:18
Margaret Qually. It's kind
1:12:21
of like a road trip film I think that
1:12:23
has a bit of crime to it. Seems
1:12:25
very Coen Brothers. I'm into
1:12:27
it. Only an hour and 20 minutes long. That's what I
1:12:29
like to hear. Lovely. I'm
1:12:31
getting into light. Don't get me wrong. I do
1:12:33
love my long films but recently I've been loving
1:12:35
the odd hour 20 film, hour and a half.
1:12:37
Nothing sells a film to watch on Netflix more
1:12:40
to me than when I see it says 90
1:12:42
minutes long. I'm like yeah. Alright let's give it
1:12:44
a shot. Do you know what won't be 90
1:12:46
minutes long? June part 2. I don't know
1:12:48
if we do know how long it is but that's surely
1:12:50
going to be 2 and a half to 3 hours. Well
1:12:55
it's coming in March. Well as we have to say apart
1:12:57
from if you've seen the trailers for this it just looks
1:12:59
funny. I haven't watched the trailers yet because I
1:13:01
just know I want to watch it and that's how I
1:13:03
don't need to watch the trailers. Yeah fair enough. You don't
1:13:05
need to but it just does just
1:13:07
look stunning. When I was in the cinema the
1:13:09
other week I think it was I went to
1:13:11
see maybe Godzilla minus one and the trailer. Oh
1:13:13
that's good isn't it? Oh fucking incredible film. Absolutely
1:13:15
banger. But the trailer for June came on. I
1:13:18
had to shut my eyes and put my fingers
1:13:20
in my ears. Like I don't want to see
1:13:22
Amy. It's one of my favourite books. I love
1:13:24
the story. I don't want to see what the
1:13:26
vision is in the final bit. Erm I
1:13:29
don't think it'd be that spoiled. Denny knows what
1:13:31
he's doing. I like
1:13:33
the fact that Matt you put your fingers in your ears because
1:13:35
you know the bass you just couldn't contend with it. See what
1:13:37
your fingers feel like when you hear them. Yeah
1:13:39
basically. They've added Christopher Walken, Austin
1:13:42
Butler, Florence Pugh. It's just ugh.
1:13:46
Christopher Walken is like the god
1:13:48
emperor. Like what a choice. So
1:13:50
good. Austin Butler being a weirder.
1:13:52
I think he's a good weirder. Erm
1:13:56
Mickey 17 was scheduled
1:13:58
to come out in March but it's now 1 day. This
1:14:00
is Bongjoon who's Hoe's new film. This
1:14:02
is one with Robert Pattinson in yeah,
1:14:05
and I think I briefly mentioned last week
1:14:07
Almost sounds like it's a roguelike So this
1:14:09
is like you're kind of born
1:14:11
like this is Mickey 17 as
1:14:13
if there's been 16 before him I
1:14:16
know we don't know much more about Probably
1:14:23
probably less action more sci-fi drama
1:14:25
I imagine but yeah see
1:14:27
his follow-up to parasite which won everything And is
1:14:29
one of the best ones ever made if you
1:14:31
ask me Road
1:14:34
house the remake of Road house
1:14:36
starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Are we
1:14:38
into this? I don't know a lot of people don't
1:14:40
know this film is coming. I never thought it was not to be fair
1:14:44
Jake Gyllenhaal has got absolutely ripped again So
1:14:48
people enjoy that Just
1:14:50
wanted to mention there's a remake of Road House
1:14:53
coming out that no one knows about it's just
1:14:55
bizarre. It's an X UFC middleweight fighter There
1:14:58
we go March
1:15:02
also Ghostbusters frozen Empire I thought
1:15:06
the Most recent Ghostbusters. Okay.
1:15:09
I didn't think it was like it got
1:15:11
it got an absolute like panning the final
1:15:13
You guys is us? I
1:15:17
think the conceit is good I like the fact that they
1:15:20
didn't just make another Ghostbusters movie set in New York
1:15:22
Oh look where they're based this time Kunis
1:15:25
and I'm all about anything carry kunie
1:15:27
days. I thought it was okay, especially Like
1:15:31
it got like people giving like one and two. So
1:15:33
I if it was that bad It's a it's perfectly
1:15:35
fine film and then especially Like
1:15:37
people often forget if you're like 11 or something watching
1:15:39
that you have a great time I think that would
1:15:42
say because a lot of it is reliant on knowledge
1:15:44
of the history of Ghostbusters I don't know if it
1:15:46
was so I thought they did well bring in the
1:15:48
kids in and make it like a new But
1:15:51
they're all the kids are the kids are related
1:15:53
and then then it's all the stuff with well
1:15:55
You know the characters that return towards the end.
1:15:57
Yeah, I don't know. I felt like you
1:16:00
could still have fun with it. I'm
1:16:03
not really excited for this film but you know, it could
1:16:05
be good, looks like New York's freezing over so
1:16:07
see what happens there. Maybe V goes back,
1:16:09
who knows? I mean that is my big problem with the Ghost Path
1:16:12
series is that they just keep going back
1:16:15
to the well all the time with the
1:16:17
same kind of ideas and they probably will
1:16:19
just bring back a villain again. Stay
1:16:22
Puft. But they brought them back in the first one
1:16:24
then they'll stay Puft. Just do something with it. I
1:16:27
like Paul Rudd, I like Carrie Keene, you know, have a
1:16:29
bit of fun. Love Lies
1:16:31
Bleeding is that a mark?
1:16:33
I feel this just cracking. I love the film
1:16:35
of this. The new film from Rose Glass who
1:16:38
directed Saint Maud which is a film I didn't
1:16:40
actually love in the end. I
1:16:42
liked a lot of what it was going for but
1:16:44
I didn't ultimately end up really liking it. But starring
1:16:47
Kristen Stewart and
1:16:50
I deliberately really haven't looked at what the plot of
1:16:52
this film is but from the trailer it looks like
1:16:55
it could be quite interesting. It's
1:16:57
got kind of like grimy 80s
1:17:00
kind of revenge thriller vibes but
1:17:03
also I think there's an element
1:17:05
of supernatural body horror in it because
1:17:08
there's some ripping muscles and Hulk-like undulation.
1:17:10
I think there's going to be some... Yeah
1:17:13
and Ed Harris with an incredible haircut
1:17:15
if you haven't seen this. He's
1:17:17
giving me kind of like Carradine and Kill
1:17:19
Bill kind of vibes from it. I get that.
1:17:22
I'm into this. In terms of the plot
1:17:24
summary all it says on IMDb is
1:17:26
A romance filled by ego design the American
1:17:28
dream. There
1:17:30
we go. Keep
1:17:32
them coming A24. Keep them coming. April,
1:17:36
challenges. This was like
1:17:38
one of my most fantastic films of last
1:17:41
year but it never came out because of
1:17:43
the strike. This is Luca Guadadino's new... It
1:17:47
looks like it's a love triangle tennis
1:17:49
film starring Zendaya. It
1:17:52
looks so good. I re-watched Call Me By Your Name a
1:17:54
couple weeks ago and I've just forgot how incredible that film
1:17:56
is. Yeah really into
1:17:59
this. there in a is
1:18:01
like a tennis star who
1:18:03
gets in yeah it's an I
1:18:05
love triangle with Mike Feist from West Side
1:18:07
Story so he was very good I'm into
1:18:09
this big time Civil
1:18:11
War Alex Garland's new
1:18:13
film with cast
1:18:16
and dance looks good it's about a I mean
1:18:18
this with the upcoming US
1:18:20
election it's gonna be a great year for US politics
1:18:22
if you if you enjoy following all of that but
1:18:24
this film is set in
1:18:26
a fictionalized near future where there's a
1:18:28
big old new Civil War going on
1:18:30
in America and it
1:18:33
looks interesting to me from someone from an outsider I'm sure
1:18:35
I'm sure Americans all think about
1:18:37
this film very differently but Alex
1:18:39
Garland to me doesn't always
1:18:41
hit but it's always interesting
1:18:44
at least when he when he does
1:18:46
something so yeah I'm into this Pablo Escobar
1:18:48
in it as well has
1:18:50
it? Wagamora and
1:18:53
it's got old Jesse Plemons if you've watched the trailer
1:18:55
for this it looks like he's gonna pop up and
1:18:58
steal steal the show for a bit again I'll
1:19:02
skip a couple we haven't got time to go through all
1:19:04
these I've got such a big list of films here John
1:19:06
Krasinski's new film Ith coming May
1:19:08
imaginary friends starring Ryan Reynolds
1:19:11
I hate the trailer for this I think yeah
1:19:13
I wasn't in I wasn't into it but like
1:19:15
just John Krasinski I like so much and I
1:19:18
think the quiet place a quiet place is so
1:19:20
good I was like oh this is what you've
1:19:22
done next you've put Ryan Reynolds in a film
1:19:24
with made like a rubbish
1:19:26
Barney the dinosaur yeah but there's a
1:19:28
quiet place coming out this year as
1:19:31
well yeah he's not involved in it
1:19:34
no I don't think he is but
1:19:38
yeah this one there didn't look great just like
1:19:40
there's a new Planet of the Apes films coming
1:19:42
out but it's nothing to do with the last
1:19:44
trilogy which are great well it is to do
1:19:46
with the last trilogy and that it is a
1:19:49
sequel to them but it's set 300
1:19:51
years later to obviously get
1:19:53
more of the original 60s Planet of the
1:19:55
Apes vibe going on like the Apes can
1:19:57
talk they ride the horses they are the
1:19:59
masters of the planet now but
1:20:02
without Reeves involved I'm
1:20:05
much more skeptical. I'm
1:20:08
not too hopeful about that one. May
1:20:10
though we are getting Furiosa, the
1:20:13
new Mad Max prequel set. I think a
1:20:15
couple of decades before Mad Max Furio Road
1:20:17
with Anya Taylor Joy as a younger Furiosa,
1:20:20
I mean if it's another really long car chase
1:20:23
I don't think it will be this time around
1:20:25
but even if it was that I'd be seated
1:20:27
and ready. It's my
1:20:29
one big rigger in life, it's not that. It's
1:20:31
a big rigger of mine as I never saw
1:20:33
Furio Road in the cinema. Really? I saw it
1:20:35
in this downline. I've seen it at home loads
1:20:37
of times but I've never saw it in the
1:20:39
cinema. I've only ever seen it in the cinema.
1:20:41
I've never watched it since. It's like that's a
1:20:44
perfect preservation. I'm hoping before this maybe they do,
1:20:46
some cinemas will do a re-release of it so
1:20:48
I can go see it in
1:20:50
the cinema but yeah if it's anything
1:20:52
like that we're in for a good
1:20:54
time aren't we? Ballerina in June is
1:20:56
the John Wick spin-off starring Ana Darnas.
1:21:00
Could be good. I sort of think John Wick's had its
1:21:02
run and I really do like
1:21:04
John Wick as a series. I've had some really
1:21:06
good times with it but I feel like it's
1:21:08
done now. I mean
1:21:11
honestly if I'm being honest I felt like I
1:21:13
only ever needed the first film. I
1:21:15
love two. Two is my favourite so I'm feeling that we've
1:21:17
got at least two of them. I do really love the
1:21:19
last half an hour of four but the first two hours
1:21:21
I can say will leave. I liked it but I did
1:21:24
find it a bit sort of like just
1:21:27
too much. It's too much of the same
1:21:29
all the time and I got a bit
1:21:31
repetitive for me. I really
1:21:33
felt that a bit when he kept falling down the
1:21:35
stairs. I'm like oh just fucking get up. Just get
1:21:37
to the top come on. We
1:21:40
are running long enough so I'm going to skip
1:21:42
through a few. Like you said A Quiet Place
1:21:44
Day One is coming out but isn't
1:21:47
unfolding. Krasinski.
1:21:50
Emily Blunt is in it though I think. I
1:21:52
still haven't seen part two. I really should because
1:21:54
I did really like part one. I did like
1:21:56
it a lot but ultimately I did find it
1:21:59
quite forget about it. I think as well
1:22:01
because I don't really think I've never gone really
1:22:03
back and watched it whereas I went back and
1:22:05
watched first One several times. I just don't think
1:22:07
this needs to be a franchise It was a
1:22:09
phenomenal one-off and not and many horrors should just
1:22:11
be phenomenal one. Oh, yeah We
1:22:13
don't need sequels to everything which leads me
1:22:15
on to twisters a sequel to twist Which
1:22:19
I would I otherwise wouldn't
1:22:21
be interested in except
1:22:23
starring Clem Powell and also
1:22:26
Directed by Lee Isaac Chun who died
1:22:29
who directed Minari. It's just a bizarre
1:22:31
like this is his next film Maybe
1:22:35
they do sound really interesting to it, but
1:22:37
I don't know if this is a sequel
1:22:39
or a reboot slash remake I'm not sure
1:22:42
but I don't know if anyone was crying
1:22:44
out for a new twister film But look
1:22:47
we're getting the storm chasers are coming back
1:22:49
to a remake of some gun cuz who
1:22:51
had any attachment to that original film how
1:22:54
day No, I
1:22:56
don't Deadpool
1:22:58
3 in July the only Marvel film hmm coming
1:23:00
out next year There's a lot of me had
1:23:02
one Marvel film in the eyes. I've got a
1:23:05
lot of high hopes for this You know, I
1:23:07
think like a lot of the Marvel films and
1:23:09
TV shows are just not interested me I have
1:23:11
no interest in watching echo even if it's great.
1:23:13
I just said get myself interested
1:23:15
in those shows anymore but I think
1:23:17
the I Think
1:23:20
the metacometer of it all is going to
1:23:22
be interesting to see how weird they go
1:23:24
with it and how silly and how much
1:23:27
X-men stuff they really do in this. I
1:23:29
I started seeing either Deadpool one or
1:23:31
two. So I Don't know.
1:23:33
I think I'm intrigued to see what they do with the whole
1:23:35
Wolverine thing. Yeah. Yeah August
1:23:38
also getting the borderlands fill with
1:23:41
cake lunch Yeah
1:23:46
Weird selection of people in that film. I
1:23:48
don't you know, I enjoy playing
1:23:50
board lands like the actual gunplay in front of
1:23:52
it I do actually quite enjoy it But I
1:23:54
don't enjoy the world and the writing and the
1:23:56
characters and this is what you're gonna get from
1:23:59
the film So I It's not gonna be
1:24:01
for me, I don't think. Jack Black
1:24:03
own Claptrap sounds like, no, I don't
1:24:05
want to hear that. Is
1:24:07
that actually the cult? That's
1:24:10
what it says on I'm the Music Cast.
1:24:12
Of course it is. Yeah. I
1:24:15
don't know. Who knows? Alien Romulus in
1:24:17
August, the new Alien film. I'm
1:24:20
into it. Good name. And
1:24:22
look, Ridley Scott approves it, not that he's always
1:24:25
a great seal of quality for everything. I'm
1:24:28
interested in that new Alien film. And also,
1:24:30
like you mentioned, August Craven, the Hunter. How
1:24:33
bad does that look? I
1:24:36
mean, will it even make it? You've
1:24:38
got to think at this point they're so invested in it, they have to release
1:24:40
it, right? But you just
1:24:42
feel like with these Sony films, they
1:24:44
can't be getting a good return on these things. Like
1:24:46
with Morbius and then with Madam Webb as well, you
1:24:49
feel like that would die in a card. In
1:24:51
November we've also got Venom 3. And I do
1:24:53
actually know Venom does have some supporters. I still
1:24:55
not watch them. But
1:24:58
yeah, Venom 3 is happening. It
1:25:00
is baffling that the same studio
1:25:02
is putting out the Spiderverse films.
1:25:04
Yeah. Like the producing team
1:25:06
that are in charge of Spider-Man at Sony
1:25:09
are able to, you know, in animation, put
1:25:11
out some of the best comic book work
1:25:13
that has ever been put to screen. And
1:25:16
yet in their live action, they're putting out
1:25:18
some of the truly worst stinkers ever. Venom
1:25:21
makes a lot of money though. So that's why they're doing it. Oh,
1:25:23
it's horrible. September,
1:25:25
Beetlejuice 2 is coming
1:25:28
with Michael Kean. They're coming back to play Beetlejuice
1:25:30
again. We'll see how that goes. We
1:25:33
are really are revisiting everything, aren't we? But
1:25:36
this could work. Who knows? Who knows?
1:25:38
A film I'm really intrigued by in
1:25:40
September is a film called Wolves, which
1:25:44
is directed by Jon Watts, who is
1:25:46
the director of the Spider-Man trilogy for
1:25:48
the MCU. This is a
1:25:50
film starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt as
1:25:54
two professional fixers who find themselves hired for the
1:25:56
same job. Just sounds like it could be very
1:25:58
fun. Clooney and Pitt back together. Bit of
1:26:00
Oceans 11. 5 to it.
1:26:03
I'm into it. So I thought a film that
1:26:05
would have been made 20 years ago that we
1:26:07
don't often get anymore. Which I kind
1:26:09
of had to sound like an old man.
1:26:11
Bring back those sort of films. What else
1:26:15
we got? Joker 2. Joker Foley
1:26:17
O'Dyr. It's coming in October. A musical with
1:26:19
Lady Gaga in this time around as Harley
1:26:21
Quinn. I big into it. I still really
1:26:23
like Joker. It's a very good film. And
1:26:26
this one seems like
1:26:28
I'm going mad with it. So go mad with
1:26:30
it. Why not? It's still Top Phillips right as
1:26:32
well. Yeah. Yeah. But he's doing a musical this
1:26:35
time. That's interesting. I'm much more intrigued by the
1:26:37
mad. I didn't think that film ever needed a
1:26:39
sequel. But the fact that this is just such
1:26:41
a weird concept. I'm intrigued by it. Yeah. We've
1:26:46
also got the new Paddington film. Paddington
1:26:48
in Peru in November. More Paddington. Always
1:26:50
good. But it's not poor King is it?
1:26:53
He's not directed but I do think he's
1:26:55
involved. I do think he's lending a hand.
1:26:57
But yeah. I still haven't
1:26:59
seen Wonka. Have you seen Wonky? Yeah. It's
1:27:01
good fun. It wasn't as weird
1:27:03
and dark as Roldar normally would be.
1:27:06
And so it didn't feel like an authentic Wonka prequel
1:27:08
for lack of a better term. But it's good fun.
1:27:11
I want to see it. Coming up at the end
1:27:14
of the year we've also got Wicked Part 1.
1:27:16
Which I'm sure will absolutely make millions
1:27:18
and millions and millions of dollars. Ariana
1:27:20
Grande making that film debut
1:27:22
I think. November 2. Gladiator
1:27:25
2. Here we go.
1:27:27
I actually forgot. Last week I said
1:27:29
Barry Kieger's in this. He actually dropped out. I lied.
1:27:31
He's not in it anymore. He was going to be
1:27:33
in it. But we've still got Paul Mezcal as the
1:27:36
young man grown up in a gladiator 2. Oh
1:27:40
is that what it is? Is it directed all over
1:27:42
his son? Yeah. He's grown
1:27:44
up. Not his son. The Emperor's.
1:27:49
The son
1:27:52
of the... I
1:27:54
forgot the name. The characters in Gladiator. Everyone knows
1:27:56
the young boy in that film. He's grown up
1:27:58
in his Paul Mezcal now. I'm
1:28:02
hopeful, I'm hopeful. But
1:28:04
who knows? I need to re-watch that. I only ever watched
1:28:06
it when it first came out. So it's been 20 years
1:28:08
since I've seen that film. I
1:28:10
love, love, love Claudia. And
1:28:12
December has also moved faster, The
1:28:15
Lion King, which
1:28:18
just intrigues me. Because
1:28:20
I probably won't watch it, but Barry Jenkins
1:28:23
of Moonlight fame is directing it. It's similar
1:28:25
to the Minari director directing Twisters. So why
1:28:27
are you, maybe he has a deep connection
1:28:29
to The Lion King. I don't know, but
1:28:31
it's an interesting choice to make.
1:28:33
I hated that live action Lion King, so
1:28:36
not that excited for this. There we go.
1:28:38
The last film we have a date for,
1:28:40
before I mention a couple of others, in
1:28:43
December, on Christmas Day, Robert Eggers
1:28:45
is releasing his Nosferatu film. What
1:28:48
a move. Christmas Day, here's my
1:28:50
vampire film. Robert
1:28:52
Eggers is just one of the
1:28:54
most exciting directors around, I think. You
1:28:57
know it's going to be quite unsettling, probably. Yeah,
1:28:59
if I've got the same sort of tone and
1:29:01
style as like the Norseman, then yeah, I'm very
1:29:04
into it. Yeah, the cast,
1:29:06
it's got Bill Skarsgard, Willem Dafoe, Nicholas
1:29:09
Holt. It's got some people who can
1:29:11
be a bit weird and a bit
1:29:13
creepy. So, I mean, I
1:29:16
think Willem Dafoe plays like a vampire hunter in
1:29:18
this film. So that's what you want, isn't it
1:29:20
really? That is what you want. That's
1:29:23
all the ones we have dates for. I was going to mention a
1:29:25
couple others, but we don't know when they're coming. Havoc
1:29:29
is the new film from
1:29:31
Gareth Evans of the Raid
1:29:33
fame, stars Tom Hardy, and
1:29:36
looks like it could be very good. We just don't
1:29:38
really know much about it yet,
1:29:40
apart from it's an action film that should come
1:29:43
out at some point soon. Hitman,
1:29:46
another Glen Powell film. He's
1:29:48
getting around, isn't he?
1:29:50
It's Hitman, two words. I
1:29:53
thought you were about to say there was another
1:29:55
terrible Hitman out of Hitman. No,
1:29:57
no, no. The new Richard Linkley film and Richard Linkley, I
1:29:59
reckon. like one of my like top five
1:30:01
directors I absolutely love pretty much anything
1:30:04
he does and he knows how to work with Glen Powell
1:30:06
and does it a lot it's it's I
1:30:08
think a lot of people already seen this film it
1:30:10
came out at some festivals lost it was even at
1:30:12
the London Film Festival thing a few months ago but
1:30:14
I can't wait to see this film Glen
1:30:16
Powell is about a hitman it's a
1:30:19
action comedy film about a hitman so
1:30:23
I'm sure it'd be very fun Maxine
1:30:25
the third film in the X
1:30:27
and Pearl trilogy you guys
1:30:30
didn't like X I really didn't like it
1:30:32
I do want to watch Pearl I liked
1:30:35
X didn't love it I really liked
1:30:37
Pearl I thought Pearl was
1:30:39
fantastic so I'm now I'm before to Maxine
1:30:41
which is the sequel
1:30:44
to X is me again yep she's
1:30:47
playing her character from Pearl
1:30:50
I believe no from X sorry in
1:30:52
this one go it gets
1:30:54
a little confusing I'm gonna mention
1:30:56
Megalopolis Francis Ford Coppola's upcoming
1:30:58
film the one he's been trying to make for
1:31:00
ages no one would give him the money of
1:31:02
it for it so he's self-financed it all himself
1:31:05
it could be an absolute mess but this
1:31:08
is the man who's made the Godfather
1:31:10
films and Apokites now so how can you really
1:31:12
doubt him he has also made some not very
1:31:14
good films but you know
1:31:18
it's a epic science fiction
1:31:20
drama starring Adam Driver and Forrest
1:31:23
Whitaker so you know I'm
1:31:25
hopeful I'm hopeful please be good Francis
1:31:27
please be good and
1:31:30
you guys familiar with Mother Mary the
1:31:33
new film from David Lurie of the
1:31:35
Green Knight fame it
1:31:38
just sounds quite good it's got Anne Hathaway, Hunter
1:31:40
Shafer and Michaela Colan it looks like
1:31:43
it's gonna be a musical drama of
1:31:45
some sort it could
1:31:47
be fun and two
1:31:50
more Joseph Kaczynski's Formula
1:31:52
One film with Brad Pitt in it his
1:31:54
follow-up to Top Gun Maverick they've been filming
1:31:56
this at actual Formula One races like putting
1:31:58
Brad Pitt in it the cars using
1:32:01
similar like filming techniques they did with Top
1:32:03
Gun Maverick to get cameras in the cars
1:32:05
and around them so I'm sure you
1:32:08
know at least it will be like stunning to look
1:32:10
out like Top Gun Maverick was so I'm very excited
1:32:13
for that and also my last
1:32:15
one is a film called Polaris from
1:32:18
Lynne Ramsey who is
1:32:20
a fantastic director starring Joaquin Phoenix
1:32:23
and Rooney Mara it's a horror
1:32:25
set in 19th century Alaska where
1:32:27
and all it says is an
1:32:29
ice photographer meets the devil so
1:32:32
there you go I hope
1:32:35
they have a lovely time there we go I'm sure
1:32:37
it'll be I'm sure it will be very
1:32:40
very good that's everything a lot of
1:32:42
things I even skipped some good year
1:32:44
for film is what I'm saying so please
1:32:46
be excited let us know IGN on school
1:32:48
you can feedback at ign.com
1:32:51
about what you're
1:32:53
most looking forward to this year what what jumped
1:32:55
out for you guys there film wise anything uh
1:32:58
June I guess is one of the June
1:33:00
of Furiosa are the big ones you didn't
1:33:02
mention Abigail which is the new horror from
1:33:05
Radio Silence who the Radio Auld team and
1:33:07
uh and screamed but I saw the trailer
1:33:09
for that yesterday it's Giancarlo Esposito asked a
1:33:11
bunch of people to go and kidnap a
1:33:13
girl and the kidnap does
1:33:15
not go well for them okay it looks
1:33:17
really fun I've not heard of
1:33:19
that one so thank you for putting it on
1:33:21
my radar what about you
1:33:24
that's a long list of films that is
1:33:26
like overwhelming almost like there's a lot to
1:33:28
choose from I guess the scene what they
1:33:31
do with Alien with Romulus like is probably
1:33:33
my most what what I'm intrigued about the most I
1:33:35
don't know if I'll have the best time with it
1:33:37
though not Craven uh
1:33:40
no sorry yeah I meant to say Craven the Hunter all-time
1:33:43
classic go hashtag team Craven
1:33:46
there we go that's that's the uh that's the
1:33:48
title of it probably won't
1:33:50
be but uh there we go uh we've
1:33:53
already gone long enough this week we will read some
1:33:55
of your feedback next week though do not worry
1:33:58
a lot of things look I
1:34:01
hope you enjoyed the podcast. What

1:34:15

1:35:36
Bros. end up in the hands
1:35:38
of an investigative journalist, she presents her

1:35:42
story showcasing the best of their worst,
