This podcast is a lecture given by legendary film theorist and academic, Professor Laura Mulvey. Mulvey is one of the most infulential thinkers in the film world over the past few decades and is known for being one of the first film writers to involve psycholanalaysis in her theory. She is most well known for her theory on the film camera and its male gaze, which has become one of the most referenced feminist texts in film history.This lecture was entitled The Index and the Uncanny Life and Death in Photography and was held to accompany the launch of Professor Sarah Edge’s monograph The Extraordinary Archive of Arthur J. Munby: Photographing Class and Gender in the Nineteenth Century.
