 Peter Shatner (born December 09, 1956) and given-up for adoption in 1956 by his Canadian born Actress mother, Kathy McNeil in New York hospital. In “The Search,” Peter Sloan — who goes by pen name Peter Shatner — details a quest that led him from Canada to Switzerland in hopes of proving the “Star Trek” actor is his dad.Peter was adopted by Time/Life journalist, George Tilden Orick and artist Barbara Lalone Byrne. Peter’s mother Barbara, named her adopted son Peter Michael Orick. In 1962, Peter's adoptive parents divorced. George Orick moved to Lagos Nigeria. In 1962, Barbara married John Colles Sloan, a widower who had two children with Ann Read Sloan, Polly Sloan and Russell Robinson Sloan, III. John Sloan adopted Peter Orick in 1965 and his name was changed to Peter Michael Sloan. John and Barbara then gave birth to a son Christopher Colles Sloan.Peter grew up in New York City and attended P.S. 19 until 1963 when his adoptive parents moved to rural New Jersey where Peter attended Mansfield Elementary School and Warren Hills Junior High School. In 1972 Peter decided to join V.E.R.I.T.A.S., a Therapeutic Community in Hell's Kitchen New York which is chronicled in his screenplay T.C. –Therapeutic Community. In 1983, Peter reunited with his journalist father, George Orick when he discovered George, head writer for ABC News 20/20, had written an article about his experience in Antarctica on an expedition with Hugh Downs. In 1984 Peter was encouraged by George Orick to find his natural parents. After contacting the adoption agency The Children's Aid Society, Peter was provided with enough identifying information to begin his search.
