In 1971, the Blue Quills Residential School, located near St. Paul, Alberta, became the first Indigenous school in Canada to have control over their own community's education. This forever changed the landscape of Indigenous education in Canada, and began the process of returning the control of Indigenous education to Indigenous communities.
