From the Berkshires to the sound from

0:04

wherever you live in MLB America.

0:06

This is inside the Parker.

0:08

You give us twenty two minutes and we'll give

0:10

you the scoop on major League Baseball.

0:13

Now here's Baseball Hall of Fame

0:15

voter number seventy six, Rob

0:18

Parker coming

0:23

up on the podcast. We will talk

0:26

about the world champion Houston

0:28

Astros, will talk

0:30

about the season two

0:33

as it comes to an end after

0:36

an incredible run in Major League

0:38

Baseball. That at why

0:40

Major League Baseball is better than nd, NBA

0:43

and NFL, all that at much more. Let's

0:46

go up

0:48

to lead off, it's getting robbed

0:51

and keep him on. Rob's hot take on the

0:53

three biggest stories in Major League

0:55

Baseball. Number

0:57

one, these Houston as Joe's

1:00

of course, have won the World Series and

1:03

uh I have won it for the second time in

1:05

six years, and uh

1:08

capped off an incredible two

1:10

season. We uh,

1:13

we weren't sure if they could

1:15

get it done obviously when they won their first

1:17

championship in seventeen with

1:19

the cheating scandal, and they needed

1:22

to win this World Series to make people feel

1:24

better about the

1:27

Astros and about and and when

1:29

we get it only four or five players remained

1:31

from that team that Major

1:33

League Baseball investigated, and I

1:36

knew who cheated during the seventeen

1:40

season with the UM with the

1:42

sign stealing scandal, but they

1:44

did get it done. I had picked the Phillies

1:46

in six games. I was impressed. And

1:49

the Astros did it with pitching because

1:51

after the Phillies scored that seven

1:54

nothing win in Game three to take a two

1:56

to one lead, I thought the Phillies

1:58

were in their way, but instead the Astros

2:00

they know, hit the Phillies in Game

2:02

four, and then they limited the Phillies

2:05

to just three runs in

2:07

the last three games of the World Series. That's

2:09

how you win. Justin Verland and picked

2:12

up his first ever win, now one in

2:14

six in World Series games. Big

2:16

for JV to get that done. And of course

2:19

I'm not burying the league. But Dusty Baker

2:22

finally wins the World Series. Big

2:25

deal for him. He was gonna get into the Hall of

2:27

Fame because he had a stat

2:29

that nobody else had, which was he

2:31

led five different organizations to the

2:33

playoffs. This was the icing

2:36

the cherry on top. Uh to finally

2:38

win a World Series for Dusty Baker

2:41

and uh, you know a lot of fans

2:43

around Baseball America. They didn't like the Astros

2:46

and and the cheating scandal, but they love

2:48

Dusty. And I heard so many

2:50

people say, I don't want the Astros

2:52

to win, but I want Dusty to win. And

2:54

UH. In order for Dusty to win, the

2:57

Astros had to win and they got it

2:59

done. So congratulations.

3:01

And Dusty Baker is not done. I

3:04

thought he might ride off into the sunset after

3:07

getting that crowning jewel to his career

3:10

as both the player and a manager, but he

3:12

wants to continue rolling on. So

3:14

he's back, at least for one more year. You got

3:16

a new one year contract from the Astros,

3:19

so Dusty Baker will

3:21

be coming back. Number two.

3:24

The Hank Aaron

3:26

Award winners were announced by Major

3:28

League Baseball and Yankees

3:31

outfielder Aaron Judge and Cardinals

3:33

first baseman Paul Goldschmidt both

3:35

the strong candidates for m v P and they

3:38

both won the award, both

3:40

of course, for the American League and the National

3:42

League, and this award recognizes

3:46

the best offensive performer in both

3:48

leagues. It was established in and

3:51

named after the Hall of Famer and

3:53

great player Hank Aaron and

3:56

UH of the previous forty six

3:58

winners, two were uh

4:00

m vps that same year.

4:03

And we know the years that both of these

4:05

guys had. They were pretty pretty

4:07

impressive. Uh Aaron

4:10

judge sixty two home runs

4:13

UH and led baseball and a

4:15

ton of categories including runs, uh

4:18

R, b I, O b P, slugging

4:21

OPS, total bases and

4:24

uh he had one of the highest awards as

4:26

well. So no shocker there.

4:28

And gold Schmidt was in

4:31

the running for a triple crown late into

4:33

the year. Uh he wind up

4:35

not getting it, but he had that kind of

4:37

season and past d

4:39

NL in slugging percentage

4:42

o P S o P S plus he

4:44

finished among the top three in the senior circuit

4:46

in runs R b I,

4:49

total basis batting average o BS,

4:51

o b P I should say and war So

4:54

both are very diverse, deserving

4:56

and deserve these awards. They

4:58

are your Hank Aaron winners

5:01

number three. And the Mets wasted

5:03

no time locking up

5:05

their closure Edwin Diaz.

5:08

He agreed on a five year, one

5:10

hundred and two million dollar deal

5:13

to stay with the Metropolitans,

5:16

to stay in Queens, and

5:18

it's a good move. It's also the richest

5:20

contract for any

5:22

relief picture o Aldus

5:25

Chapman had the richest contract prior

5:27

to that, five years, eighties, six

5:29

million. But the Mets make Diaz

5:31

the highest paid closure in baseball

5:34

history with the one hundred and two

5:36

million dollar deal, and you know what,

5:38

last year for the Mets he was worth

5:41

every penny. Now

5:43

bringing the closer. Here's

5:48

why MLB is better than the NFL

5:50

or NBA, and it isn't even

5:52

close. Here's

5:55

reason five hundred and fifty

5:57

five why Major League Baseball is better

6:00

then the NBA and the NFL.

6:03

And it was this season, the two

6:05

season. Who could have expected

6:08

that the Phillies would make the

6:11

World Series and that the Astros

6:13

would win another one. I mean it

6:16

was up and down season.

6:19

Uh. The Yankees started off, think about

6:22

it, how does a firecracker? We thought they might

6:24

set the record for all time wins. Then

6:26

the Dodgers turned it up and they put

6:29

together a hundred and eleven wins season.

6:31

They were unstoppable, the Dodgers.

6:34

So we looked at those teams thinking maybe there

6:36

might be a Yankees Dodgers World

6:39

Series for the first time since

6:41

Night One. That didn't happen.

6:44

We saw a team young team like Cleveland

6:47

Blossom make the postseason.

6:49

That was pretty amazing. They won the Central

6:52

in the a L. The White Sox

6:54

were banged up. The Twins started good but

6:56

then faded. We saw a lot of

6:58

different things. The Orioles laid

7:01

well and had a shot at making the playoffs.

7:03

We saw the Mariners, who had like this

7:06

unbelievable drought in baseball, finally

7:09

make the playoffs. Some exciting baseball

7:11

at the end. And then we had some

7:14

unfortunate stuff. You know,

7:16

we had the Tattoos suspension UH

7:19

for Jews, and that was a bummer,

7:23

especially UH for the Padres,

7:25

because the Padres also in the season

7:29

had the biggest trade and

7:32

UH probably baseball history, getting Juan

7:34

Soto for a ton of UH

7:38

prospects, and and

7:40

you know, thinking that of course UH

7:42

Tattoos would be back from injury and they

7:44

would be able to make a run to the

7:46

postseason and to the World Series maybe,

7:49

And they did beat the Dodgers finally, but

7:51

that was it. So there were

7:54

those things, and then probably the

7:56

creme de la creme was

7:59

the errand judge home run chase

8:01

to set the all time record, beating

8:04

Roger Marris's record in the American League

8:06

of sixty one, and I

8:08

mean he also set the all time Yankee

8:10

record, which Maris had. He passed

8:12

Babe Ruth, who had sixty in a season

8:14

for the Yankees. It was magical

8:16

and I know he struggled down the stretch to finally

8:18

get there, but he got there and

8:21

it was worth the weight he had. He put

8:23

together an unbelievable season and

8:26

uh and carried the Yankees to ninety

8:28

nine wins. It was disappointing

8:30

they didn't get to the World Series and haven't

8:32

been since two thousand nine, but

8:35

there were a lot of good things that happened in baseball

8:38

and good stuff to look forward to as

8:40

we get ready for the three

8:42

season. And UH,

8:44

on that note, I

8:47

enjoyed every minute every

8:49

week of the podcast with you this past

8:52

season. And all the people who of

8:54

course work on at Rob garret our producer

8:57

9:07

9:09

9:18

9:21

9:26

that we can't do the podcast without you, and

9:28

we appreciate your feedback and your support.

9:31

And two was amazing

9:33

and was a great baseball season, and

9:36

9:39

Parker. All I'm gonna say is

9:41

peace until December. In

9:50
