TranscriptWelcome to Inspiring You To Motivate Your Mind, the podcast for people who experience depression and feel stuck. I’m your host, Wendy Taylor-Loftus.If you want to take action but feel trapped and wonder if you’ll ever get your life back, then you’re in the right place because my purpose is to help those of you who want to take action but don’t know where to start. If you’re wondering if you’ll ever be happy again, let me inspire you, encourage you and let you know there is hope for you.Let’s get started.MusicHello and welcome to episode #13Today I want to share with you the changes I’ve been making over the last few days and why. Also, I want to share a little about me, so you know why I can talk about depression authentically and why it’s taken me so long to stand in my corner.Over the last five months or so I’ve been broadcasting podcasts, writing articles and creating material for women. I wanted to help them build their self-confidence, their courage and help them feel comfortable in their own skin. But in the background, there’s been this niggling sensation in my chest as well as a very chatty voice in the back of my mind.I know - if you’ve had depression and then say you’re hearing voices you know they’re going up your meds, right! But this voice was not my alter ego; it was my intuition. If you’ve ever ignored your intuition you know, it never ends well.I would write many articles and continue with my Confident Woman Academy podcast, and the voice would get louder. It would say, “What are you going on about? Why are you doing these podcasts and articles when you know the subject is not your calling?” Try arguing with your intuition and see where it gets you! One day my intuition asked me, “why do you avoid talking about depression?” You know what my answer was? “Because everyone knows depression is depressing!” And that was it. That was my answer, and in fact, I was a little irritated that I felt fired up when I heard about a suicide, or someone being told that medication was the only solution or that they would have it forever. In my solar plexus, I felt I had an energy that fired up like a rocket on all cylinders. I would find myself feeling passionate about this subject. I would go on and on. My soapbox would be out, and there was no getting me off it.And the funny thing was my intuition would go, mmhmm, depression is not your topic right?Yeah, I was a little irked, and I was still trying to ignore it, and my problem was I wanted to talk about exciting things like, how to find gold, or how to make 10,000K in twenty minutes!! People want to know about that stuff right - but depression? Just so you know I don't know how to make 10 K in 20 minutes so how will talk about that I don't know! But I wanted to talk about things that were exciting like writing or how to start a business on the high street; how to choose the right suppliers and what red-flags to look out for. I also wanted to talk about the things people barely mention in business books like, when you need change for your till the bank charges you for it orbusiness rates is a tax on entrepreneurs that you get absolutely nothing for, and no it’s not a charge to take away your rubbish like many people think. You have to find a waste company for that.See… I can talk about that topic and share details for the next several years to come. But that ‘passion” if you want to call it that, came, not from a place of peace and the desire to help, talking about business came from a place of resentment and frustration. And if I’m going to be upfront with you, also a place of anger.Having a business on the High Street is hard work and you know I'd never do it again. But my motivation for talking about that topic wouldn’t be authentic and as much information as I would have that would help people it wasn't really my corner. But depression fired me up in a different way.
