Love. That’s all we need to do as parents, isn’t it? Easy peasy.

But what is love really?

I come to think of it as being as simple as tapping into our heart space, our loving energy, the universal source of expansive energy that’s within and all around us.

But what if we unpack it a little bit more? How about we create an anagram and see what happens?

LOVE – L is for living. It’s about what surrounds us. The people, the places, the situations, the signposts. The real and the concrete and the hidden and the mysterious. It’s about the understood and the unexpected and the differences and the similarities. It’s about being as well as doing, and the inner life as well as the outer world. It’s the universe in our pocket and all around us.

LOVE – O is for openness

It’s about having an open mind and an open heart. It’s about moving away from judgment and expectation toward curiosity and interest. It’s about believing we can learn and grow ourselves with and because of our children as we allow our children to learn and grow too. It’s about knowing we’ll be challenged because that opens us up to new perspectives and new possibilities. It’s welcoming change and flowing with rather than against life.

LOVE – V is for validation

It’s about expressing to our children with our words, feelings and actions, I see you, I hear you, I love you. It’s about appreciating our children for who they are and encouraging them to be themselves. It’s also about self-validation too. It’s about expressing to ourselves with our words, feelings and actions, I see you, I hear you, I love you. It’s self-compassion and self-respect and self-worth.

LOVE – E is for engagement

It’s about being present. Being in the moment. Being mindful. Being soulful. Being aware. It’s about every moment having a place in our life. Having purpose. Even if that purpose isn’t always consciously understood. It’s about the now rather than what’s gone and what’s to come. It’s just here and now and that’s all.
