Life involves rhythms and cycles. A time for day and time for night. A time for the sun to set and the moon to rise. A time for activity and a time for rest.

Life cannot be all activity and no rest just as it can’t be all day and no night.

But somehow we’ve forgotten this. Instead, we live in a cult of busyness.

Busyness as a badge of honour. Busyness as a sign of success. Busyness as a sign of worth.

How are you? Busy!

How’s things going? Busy? Oh yes, it’s so busy!

That was me caught in a vortex of busyness.

Then a couple of years ago, I decided that I don’t do busy anymore.

If someone asks me if my work is busy, I say, ‘No.’

At first, I felt like a failure. Your business can’t be doing very well if you’re not busy!

But then I realized that not being busy was so much better.

Now life can be about quality, mindfulness, presence, pleasure, anticipation. I can be in deeper relationship with others and life because I’m in a deeper relationship with myself. I’m not speeding through. Instead, I’m connecting and appreciating.

I’ve lived the model of high stress, busyness, and hard work. It led to burnout. Twice.

Now I try to embrace right pace. I try to embrace ease and rest.

I’m a much better parent now and a much better businesswoman. I have time, energy and love for the most important people and projects in my life. And I have time, energy and love for me.

Today I try right pace not busy.
