God makes promises. He
0:02
gives Himself an every good gift to us with
0:04
a word, a pledge. That's a promise. And
0:07
faith is born of these promises. Hope
0:09
comes alive. We live in joy and
0:12
peace in the confidence that God cannot
0:14
lie. So His word of promise
0:17
is our life. Pastor Brian Wolfmiller
0:19
talking about his presentation at the 2024 Issues,
0:21
Etc., Making the
0:23
Case Conference. Talking
0:26
on the faith that sustained Jacob in exile,
0:28
Luther says, we are absolved from our sins.
0:31
We have the word which is founded and stands
0:33
firm on the promises of God. So
0:36
we walk by faith and not by sight,
0:38
knowing that the God who makes promises has
0:41
given those promises to us. You
0:43
can meet and hear Pastor Brian Wolfmiller
0:45
making the case for trusting in the
0:47
promises of God at this year's Making

1:02
got all these great answers to
1:04
all these great questions. You've
1:09
got all these great answers to
1:11
all these great questions. Since
1:17
Judas' betrayal of Jesus had been
1:19
predicted not only in Scripture but
1:21
also by Jesus Himself, did Judas
1:24
have free will in the matter?
1:27
What if your relatives won't take your
1:29
God child to church? What should you
1:31
do? And what are those creatures called
1:34
Nephilim in Genesis 6?
1:37
Just some of the questions that we'll be
1:39
responding to in the next hour of Issues,
1:41
Etc. Greetings and welcome. Live
1:43
on this Friday afternoon, May the 10th. I'm Todd

1:50
Brian Wolfmiller will be alongside to answer
1:52
your unanswered Bible questions and then it's
1:54
this week in pop Christianity today. A
1:57
sermon preached by new apostolic Reformation
1:59
Pastor Bill Johnson titled
2:01
Mandate for Miracles. Pastor Chris Roseborough
2:03
will be our guest. Pastor

2:15
be here, Todd. Pastor Brian Wolfmiller

2:24
he's author of several books, including His American
2:26

2:28
you, Todd. Question from Heather
2:30
in Rapid City, South Dakota. My
2:33
husband and I are Godparents to our
2:36
wonderful two-year-old niece. However, my sister-in-law and
2:38
brother-in-law do not take her to church. And
2:40
as far as we know, have no intention of doing
2:43
so. My question is, as
2:45
her Godparents, when, if ever,
2:47
does it become our responsibility to have
2:49
the conversation with them about getting our
2:52
niece to church and into the church
2:54
community, they live out of state, or
2:56
we would offer to take her ourselves. Thank
2:58
you for considering my question. This
3:01
is exactly the reason why we
3:03
have Godparents, and that is to
3:05
not only be witnesses of the baptism
3:08
of those that they are sponsoring,
3:10
but especially to encourage the parents.
3:12
Now, the whole congregation has that
3:14
responsibility. The whole Christian church on
3:16
earth has the responsibility
3:18
of gathering around Christian parents and
3:21
encouraging them to be Christian parents, to bring their
3:23
children to church, to raise them in the faith,
3:25
to be pouring the gifts
3:28
of God's wisdom and spirit into their
3:30
hearts and minds and consciences by the
3:32
Word of God. But especially
3:34
that belongs to the Godparents. So the
3:36
Godparents have promised to pray for the
3:38
children. That's our first work as Godparents,
3:40
to bring the children into
3:43
the Lord's face and consideration by our
3:46
prayers. But then secondly,
3:48
to hold the parents accountable to
3:50
that work. So it is already
3:52
that responsibility. It's sometimes tricky
3:54
just because the conversation is
3:56
not as healthy as it could be, or
3:58
there's awkward things to... talk about when it
4:01
comes to spiritual things with family. But as
4:03
God parents, God be praised that you have that
4:06
vocation, that God has given you this God
4:08
child to pray for and to care for, and
4:11
yep, you are authorized by God, in fact,
4:13
appointed by God for this duty. And
4:16
so may the Lord bless you and fill
4:18
what you are unable to do with His
4:20
mercy and kindness. Brian
4:22
has a question. What happened to all
4:25
the meat that was sacrificed in the
4:27
Old Testament? Was it shared amongst the
4:29
believers, similar to the Passover, and is
4:31
it connected to the body and blood of Christ in
4:33
with and under the bread and wine
4:36
in communion? Well,
4:39
great question, Brian. The complication here
4:41
is it's rather complicated. That's why
4:43
you have the entire book of
4:45
Leviticus so that the priests can
4:47
make sure that they're following all
4:49
of these rituals to the tea.
4:51
Exactly how God has instituted these
4:53
rituals, these ceremonies that are enacted
4:55
so that we can be assured
4:57
of the promised presence of Christ,
4:59
the second person, the Holy Trinity,
5:01
who assures us that we are
5:03
holy because He is holy. He's
5:05
there and He is approving of
5:07
us because of His work.
5:10
But so these sacrifices are always
5:12
pointing to Christ, to the atoning
5:14
work of Jesus, that without the
5:16
shedding of blood there is no
5:18
forgiveness, sins, that we stand constantly
5:21
in the need of cleansing. And
5:23
the animal sacrifices obviously cannot cleanse
5:25
totally. They can only cleanse the
5:27
body on the outside, but
5:30
they need to be sacrificed again and
5:32
again and again. Jesus Himself is that
5:34
all-a-velling sacrifice one time and He cleanses
5:36
the conscience. So His blood, of course,
5:39
is a speaking blood. It's a blood
5:41
that we actually drink. We take the
5:43
blood of the New Testament for the
5:45
forgiveness of sins, trusting in
5:47
the promises of Jesus. Now, so remember
5:49
the blood in the Old Testament, you're
5:51
not going to eat, you're not going
5:53
to drink that blood. So there is
5:55
a definite distinction there, a difference, that
5:57
that blood of the shedding that's poor,
6:00
out upon the altar is not consumed by
6:02
the individual but consumed by the flames on
6:04
the altar. So I
6:06
think that's how we really want to
6:09
approach this is that the flames on
6:11
the altar itself is consuming that which
6:13
is offered. And so in the book
6:15
of Leviticus, especially like around chapters six
6:18
and seven, this is where you see
6:20
all this laid out, the different types
6:22
of offerings that are being offered up
6:25
to God. And so you have ultimately
6:27
the biggest one is that whole burnt
6:29
offering, the whole animal is placed upon
6:32
the altar. And that's going to be
6:34
that lamb. There's a lamb in the morning. There's a lamb
6:36
in the evening and the whole animal
6:38
is placed there. The blood drained, of
6:40
course. And then you have the whole
6:42
animal consumed in the fire. So the
6:44
fire eats up the animal if you
6:46
will. But then you have
6:49
other offerings that are given. You have
6:51
the gift offering to the Lord, which
6:53
there's all these offerings are producing this
6:55
pleasing aroma to the Lord. So these
6:57
are gifts of the Lord, the pleasing
6:59
aroma, assuring us that God is happy
7:01
with us, that He is giving
7:03
us His favor, His assurance of
7:05
His favor, because we're enacting what
7:07
He has instituted. So you have that promise. And
7:10
so when you have like a public grain offering,
7:12
this is going to be a little bit different.
7:14
So some of the grain, a portion of it
7:16
is going to be placed upon the altar. So
7:18
think of the flame as consuming that portion of
7:20
the grain. And then the other portion of the
7:23
grain is going to be given to the priests
7:25
that are on duty. And they're going to consume
7:27
it. So they're going to eat a portion of
7:29
that grain. And so that's a grain offering. Of
7:31
course, if the high priest gives a whole grain
7:34
offering himself, the whole thing is burned and consumed
7:36
in the flame upon the altar. Or
7:38
you have also the understanding of holy
7:40
bread that's made from these grain offerings
7:43
that's consumed by the priest. You have
7:45
the understanding of holy meat. Now this
7:47
is going to be the sin guilt
7:49
offerings where a portion is placed upon
7:51
the altar. And because the altar is
7:53
holy, that meat is holy. And then
7:55
you're going to have the priest are
7:57
going to consume from that sin. and
8:00
guilt offering. They will also consume the
8:02
other portion because it will be holy meat for them.
8:05
But you also have peace offerings, where it's
8:07
a holy meat where portion is consumed in
8:09
the flames on the altar, a portion consumed
8:11
by the priest and a portion consumed by
8:13
the laity. So you really
8:15
have to go through and look
8:17
at this in Leviticus, especially in
8:20
chapters six and seven to kind
8:22
of lay it all out. But
8:24
think of the flames as consuming,
8:26
giving that sweet aroma, the assurance
8:28
of God's favor. And understand
8:30
also these portions sometimes are consumed by
8:32
the priest. And then ultimately that holy
8:34
meat, there's that portion that's consumed by
8:37
laity. Doris
8:39
has another question here, and this
8:41
is, how do we explain the
8:43
apparent contradiction of the many
8:46
times holy scriptures calls upon the reader,
8:48
do not fear, while at the same
8:50
time saying, we should fear the Lord?
8:52
I love this quote. It's like Doris
8:54
was reading my mind to say, what
8:56
is the perfect question to ask Pastor
8:59
Wolf Mueller and asked it? I'm so
9:01
happy, I'm kind of giddy about this
9:03
question. So let's maybe start by this
9:05
way, that when we
9:07
consider the first commandment, that
9:09
we should have no other gods, we know
9:11
that that means that we should fear, love
9:14
and trust in God above all things. That's
9:16
how Luther unfolds that for us so simply
9:18
and beautifully in the catechism. And
9:20
I used to think when I, in
9:23
fact, maybe till a few years ago, I
9:25
used to think that what that meant was, here I am
9:27
and here God is over there, and the thing that should
9:29
be between me and God is fear and love and trust.
9:31
Maybe there's lots of other things that are happening, but it
9:33
should be fear, love and trust. I think
9:36
that's wrong. I think what Luther is saying in this
9:38
commandment, the insight that he has, is
9:40
that the human heart is
9:42
a fearing, loving, trusting thing.
9:45
This is part of what it means to be made
9:47
in the image of God. It's grabbing a hold of
9:50
something, and the way that it grabs hold of things
9:52
is by fear, love and trust. And
9:55
what the commandment is saying is that
9:57
your fear ought to be in God.
10:00
Your love ought to be in God. Your
10:02
trust ought to be in God. He is
10:04
the right object of all of
10:06
these acts of the heart, and that's worship.
10:08
When those three things come together, fear, love
10:10
and trust, that's what it means to worship.
10:13
So we should hold onto God and to
10:15
God alone. What that means, and
10:17
especially when it comes to the fear of God, because
10:19
I think love is a little bit
10:22
different. Love is not as exclusive. The Lord
10:24
says, Love me above everything else, and so
10:26
much that everything else or your other love
10:28
seem like hatred, but when you love me
10:30
you are showing it by your love for
10:32
the neighbor. So love is a bit inclusive,
10:34
but fear is exclusive in this way. When
10:37
the Lord says, You should fear me,'
10:39
He's saying, I am not authorizing you
10:41
to be afraid of anything else. So
10:44
the Scriptures are constantly fighting
10:47
against the idolatry of fearing
10:49
anything that's not God. Death?
10:51
Don't be afraid of death! Jesus says, Look, three days I
10:54
was done with it. Don't be afraid of death! The devil?
10:56
You're not to be afraid of the devil. Resist
10:58
him and he will flee from you. Sickness,
11:00
poverty, shame, condemnation, you're
11:02
not supposed to be afraid of any
11:04
of these things. You're supposed
11:06
to fear the Lord. Jesus says it like this, Don't fear the
11:08
one who can destroy your body, which is
11:11
I suppose anyone with a stick
11:14
and the devil. Don't fear them.
11:17
Fear the one who can destroy both body and soul
11:19
in hell. In other words, fear the
11:21
judge of the world. Fear God and fear Him
11:23
alone. Then when
11:25
that happens, all the other
11:27
things that we are tempted to fear in
11:29
this life are taken away from us. There's
11:32
only one thing left. There's the Lord Jesus. We
11:35
say, Well, Jesus, my heart has to
11:37
fear something. I'm going to fear you. Then
11:40
he smiles and looks at us and says, Don't
11:42
be afraid. The
11:46
command to fear the Lord is the
11:48
command to not fear anything else. Then
11:52
when we give our fear to the Lord, the Lord
11:54
says, Got it! Now I am nothing to be afraid
11:56
of because of the death and resurrection of Jesus. You
11:59
should not fear my God. wrath. You should not fear
12:01
my condemnation. You should not fear my power because
12:03
it's all for you. So
12:05
this is why these two things actually, they seem
12:07
at first to contradict each other, but it's a
12:09
beautiful harmony in the way that the Lord is
12:12
calling us to a faithful stewardship of
12:14
our fear and then He deals with
12:16
us as His dear children in the midst of that. Dr.

14:56
We are responding to your unanswered Bible questions
14:58
with Pastor Brian Ketchelmeyer and Pastor Brian Wolfmiller.
15:01
Pastor Wolfmiller, Timothy has a question. This is more
15:03
of a synod question. Does the Lutheran Church of
15:06
Missouri Synod commune visitors, if
15:08
they're not Lutheran but believe in the
15:10
true presence of Christ in, with, and
15:12
under the elements, is it acceptable practice
15:14
to announce that the supper
15:16
is available for anyone who believes in
15:18
the true presence? The
15:21
answer is no, at least it ought not
15:23
to be. The Church of the Missouri Synod
15:25
promised to practice closed communion and there's a
15:28
lot that that involves, including the
15:30
idea that coming together at
15:32
the Lord's Supper is an act
15:35
of fellowship. And so while
15:37
a lot of churches will say, hey, the
15:40
determining factor ought to be, do you
15:42
believe the body is there, the blood is there,
15:45
that's not the only constraint. And we
15:47
could see that, for example, by the
15:49
fact that I think every Missouri Synod
15:51
church would say that even the
15:53
children who believe that ought not to come to
15:55
communion until they've been confirmed or admitted to the
15:57
table or something like that. We
16:00
want to make sure that there is
16:02
a faithful practice of closed communion, and it is an
16:05
understanding of two things. First
16:08
that in the supper the
16:10
Lord Jesus is giving us His true body
16:13
and blood for the forgiveness of
16:15
sins. So He who is worthy
16:17
and well prepared is the one who has faith in these
16:19
words, given and shed for you for the
16:21
forgiveness of sins. That's a
16:23
worthiness that comes from repentance and faith,
16:25
knowing that we're sinners that need the
16:27
Lord's forgiveness, knowing that the Lord Jesus
16:29
is giving us that forgiveness there in the supper.
16:32
This has to do with especially
16:34
pastoral care. There would be ways
16:36
that people, if they're living in
16:38
open, unrepentant lives or whatever, would be excluded
16:40
from the table because they're showing fruit of
16:43
indicating a lack of repentance. That's one thing.
16:46
But there's another thing that's happening at the
16:48
Lord's supper, which is
16:50
that there's a public confession being
16:52
made of the faith
16:54
that's taught and connected to the
16:57
altar. This is very difficult
16:59
for us. It wouldn't have been so difficult in the
17:01
ancient world because in the ancient world you had the
17:03
idea that the altar where you
17:05
worship is a confession. It says something so that Paul
17:07
can talk to the Corinthians about, hey, we can't be
17:09
partakers of the altars of demons and the altars of
17:11
the Lord because where you go to the altar, that's
17:14
where you're saying, hey, here's what I believe. Here's what
17:16
I stand for. Here's what I confess. Here's what I
17:18
know to be true. It's
17:20
basically lost in the modern world. We don't think
17:22
of these things. Everything's an opinion.
17:24
There's no real confession at all. The
17:27
idea of an altar is totally lost. We're
17:30
going against all modern sensibilities when
17:33
it comes to this practice. I think that maybe the easiest
17:35
way to say it is this. If
17:37
you're walking down the street and someone comes up to you
17:39
and they say, hey, could you sign
17:42
this petition for me? We
17:44
would say, well, what's it say? They say, well,
17:46
no matter. It doesn't matter what it says. Could
17:48
you just sign it? You say, well, no. I
17:50
want to know what it says first. Before I put my name on a
17:52
thing, I want to make sure that I believe it. Maybe
17:55
I'm all right if you want to go and save the
17:57
whales, but maybe I'm not going to sign a petition. Kinda
18:00
to tear down the statue or whatever. I want
18:02
to know what it says before I sign onto
18:04
it. With. This is how. The.
18:06
Scriptures and that She Missouri Synod understands
18:08
going to the altar. When you go
18:11
to the altar, it's like you're putting
18:13
your name on that confession. We want
18:15
to actually give people a chance to
18:17
understand what the confession is. And
18:19
to publicly say yes, I belong to
18:21
that concession. Before. We come to
18:24
the table. So we were still fighting for
18:26
that unity of faith, fighting against divisions of
18:28
doctrine, citing for that clear confession and that
18:31
shows up by this practice of close communion
18:33
which says that coming to the altar together
18:35
is an act of theological fellowship. It's and
18:37
more than just the this is the true
18:40
body and blood but but all that the
18:42
Lord would have us to confess from the
18:44
scriptures. Has
18:46
to get to my are Mercedes says why
18:48
does the church believes in Adam and Eve
18:50
are forgiven seen since they never seem to
18:52
confess their sins and repented. What
18:55
against This is wonderful because a kind of
18:57
flows offer the same understanding when we look
19:00
at the creeds and we have the second
19:02
article. Were talking about the person: a work
19:04
of Christ who years in what he's dance,
19:06
that he's the one who was conceived by
19:08
the Holy spirit born of the Virgin Mary,
19:11
skis, the one who has suffered the punches
19:13
pilots T, someone who's crucified, dead buried, and
19:15
he's when he descends into hell, raised again
19:17
and he ascends and a husband for us.
19:19
So the second article is all about the
19:21
person work of Christ, what he does and
19:24
it's in that third. Article where we have
19:26
the forgiveness of sins and were faith
19:28
as work it. So when you go
19:30
back to Genesis chapter three, focus on
19:32
the second article here. So the emphasis
19:34
is that the second person of the
19:36
holy trinity he's the one who comes
19:38
to seek in the saved the last
19:40
suisse going after Adam Eve. He's going
19:42
after them because the devil is the
19:44
one who's cause this rift send separates
19:46
from god but god his life and
19:48
he's gonna go find them and bring
19:50
them out of death into his life
19:52
Giving him the word of promise. The
19:54
word that's. Heard and that's where the holy
19:56
spirit is gonna be at work in that work
19:58
in. So when the second. Personal Holy Trinity
20:01
goes out to speak to them. They're
20:03
hiding. They're hiding in. the question the
20:05
got asked is where are you because
20:07
his undoing the questions of the double.
20:10
The double saying. Did God really say
20:12
that? It's a question of reflection. It's
20:14
of meditation contemplation. Why are we hide
20:16
it So he? The whole point here
20:19
is not the the great remorse of
20:21
Adam and Eve. It's not the great
20:23
actions of Adam and Eve. or even
20:25
they're great thoughts. Are they're great words.
20:28
Everything is about the person and work.
20:30
Of the second person, the holy trinity who
20:32
comes to seek in to save the last
20:35
skis the one that goes out to seek
20:37
them. He's someone to find some, and he
20:39
assures him of the promise that it's the
20:41
seed of the woman that's gonna crush the
20:44
serpent's head. So it's about God's mercy. It's
20:46
about God's love for us. It's not about
20:48
how Adam and Eve are love football, or
20:51
who they are friendly in. So therefore, God
20:53
chooses them to be friends or that they're
20:55
lovable and God chooses to love them instead.
20:57
This is all about the love of God.
21:00
Is about what God has done for
21:02
them. And so Gods speaking and say
21:04
I'm the one who's going to put
21:07
this hostility between you and between the
21:09
serpent. He speaks to the serpent, between
21:11
the woman because he's separating the serpent
21:14
from us. Sen separates us from gods,
21:16
but the gods. the one who separates
21:18
us from the serpent and separates us
21:21
from our sin and brings again this
21:23
whole reconciliation. So Adam and Eve and
21:25
their action. They're trying to cover their
21:27
sin. They're trying to make God merciful.
21:30
With their man made method of clothing
21:32
with the leaves are God is gonna
21:34
give them the one thing that they
21:36
need which is that animal skin because
21:38
again the shedding of the blood without
21:40
the shedding of the blood. There is
21:42
no forgiveness. It's teaching the substitution area
21:44
torments that one has to die instead
21:47
of you. You cannot make yourself right
21:49
with God. It's not about your actions
21:51
which you've done to cover your sense.
21:53
It's not about the level of remorse
21:55
that you have the to really really
21:57
meant it's it's not even about this
21:59
special. Prayer that you said or anything.
22:01
it's about the mercy of God she's
22:04
the one who have verse them with
22:06
the animal skins and this promise that
22:08
seat is going across serpents had. So
22:10
that's why we want to look at
22:12
the in this way that immediately when
22:14
Sen happens. We're. Not gonna look
22:17
at the centers and see what their
22:19
action is to remedy it's but instead
22:21
we're gonna look at our savior and
22:23
look at what his action is to
22:25
rid remedy the said. He saves us
22:27
from our sense. So that's the whole
22:29
points. Not about confessing sin but about
22:31
confessing the savior. Been
22:34
has a question. He. Says
22:36
this is on Christian morality in
22:38
relationship to politics since twenty twenty
22:40
or so. There's come about
22:43
a popular slogan on the right in
22:45
the U S: Let's Go Brandon. This
22:48
is a code phrase for another slogan
22:50
which consists of a profanity address to.
22:53
President. Joe Biden. It. Seems to
22:55
me the com actually speaking the underlying slogan
22:57
is the same thing as frivolously asking for
23:00
a curse from God or wishing the worst
23:02
possible thing on Joe Biden to. Seems to
23:04
me, the Christians shouldn't approve of this phrase
23:06
in either of it's forms. Of
23:09
think we ought rather to speak in decent
23:11
terms such as Joe Biden is a wicked
23:13
Ruler or to pray that God remove him
23:15
from office Or to pray to the impressive
23:18
Tories arms against him. thereby.
23:20
We can maintain respect for the office
23:22
he holds while also keeping ourselves from
23:24
speech which degrades ourselves in shorts. I
23:26
think this phrase is on be sitting
23:28
of Christians Am I correct in this
23:31
thinking. What? would you do if
23:33
one of your professors uttered and the above
23:35
saw that are displayed in some ways thanks
23:37
for your consideration and keep up the good
23:39
work it sounds like this is less of
23:42
an abstract question for been pretty realistic but
23:44
i think is right in the general idea
23:46
that this is not the rinse their way
23:48
to phrase came about i think it's pretty
23:50
funny but it is not that the the
23:53
christians should have their speech season with salt
23:55
we should be careful that know unfruitful speech
23:57
comes from your mouth or any filthy speech
24:00
And this would include this phrase as
24:02
just a cover-up for filthy speech, and
24:04
that's right. So we should be
24:06
sanctified in the way that we think and the
24:09
way that we speak, and I don't think this
24:11
is sanctified speech. He's right also
24:13
in this, that we
24:15
are called to pray for those that
24:18
the Lord puts into government. In fact,
24:20
Paul says to Timothy, let men of
24:22
God raise their hands, praying especially to
24:24
kings and for people of
24:27
all stations, but it's especially the kings
24:29
that are receiving the prayers of
24:31
the church. God be praised for that. But
24:34
Luther makes a really important point. He says, look, when
24:36
we pray for the king, we're praying
24:38
that God's will would be done through that
24:40
king, and if that king is busy thwarting
24:42
the will of God, then our prayers for
24:45
them actually become prayers against them. And
24:47
so when we pray for the rulers
24:49
of our nation, we pray for wise
24:51
and faithful rulers. We pray that they
24:54
would serve to the maintenance of
24:56
righteousness and to the hindrance of wickedness.
24:58
And if those who are ruling, who
25:00
are elected officials, appointed officials who are
25:02
ruling in the stead of the people
25:04
in our country, if they are working
25:07
to thwart righteousness and
25:09
to support wickedness, then the
25:12
prayer of the church is a prayer against them.
25:14
And so this is, I suppose, a warning for
25:16
those who have authority that they
25:18
would govern and rule and serve in such a
25:21
way that the prayer of the church is for
25:23
them and not against them.

29:45
respond to your unanswered Bible questions. Sensible.
29:48
Miller Michael in Mexico,
29:50
Minnesota says since the
29:52
crucifixion of Jesus was
29:54
prophesied and therefore pre
29:56
determined. To. Judas have free
29:58
will to betray him. Or not.
30:01
It. Pilot have a choice than to follow through
30:03
with the terraces demands. Do think Judas is in
30:05
hell for what he did. Jesus said it would
30:07
have been better for that man if he had
30:09
not been board which is absolutely true. I just
30:12
wonder the had a choice of the matter. If.
30:14
It was all predetermine. This
30:17
is a said Pressing Questions Jesus addresses
30:19
it directly in Luke twenty to Twenty
30:21
Two and he says for the Son
30:23
of Man goes as it has been
30:26
determined, But. Woe to that
30:28
manned by whom he has betrayed sox
30:30
were going to get up to a
30:32
couple of mister is here that simply
30:34
cannot be answered. But here I think
30:36
is the main thing is that in
30:39
the scriptures determination and guilt or not
30:41
exclusive categories we just tend to think
30:43
well either. Judas. Was
30:45
gonna do it and therefore how could
30:47
he be? Guilty. If he
30:49
didn't have a choice, Or. He
30:52
had a choice and then it was a
30:54
determined because we think if I can't do
30:56
something that I shouldn't be guilty for not
30:58
doing it. But there's two Princes isn't scriptures
31:00
that I think her especially important. So first
31:02
from Romans eight. It's gonna talk
31:05
about how. We. Can't keep the law
31:07
and we don't keep the law same. And
31:09
first, for instance One Fourteen we can't receive
31:11
the things have got and we don't receive
31:13
the things of God the can't speak to
31:16
our. Inability. And
31:18
the don't speak to our guilt. And
31:21
they're both truce aromas. Eight for the mind that a
31:23
Set on the flesh is hostile. The God. For.
31:25
It does not submit a god's law.
31:28
And. Is therefore guilty. Indeed, it
31:30
cannot submitter God's law. So.
31:33
We are both unable to submit a god's law
31:35
and we'd also don't at the same time, so
31:37
we don't have the ability to do it. But
31:40
it's almost like even if we did have the
31:42
ability to do it, we wouldn't do it so
31:44
were guilty even though we don't have the capacity
31:46
for sprint. It's one. Fourteen says the natural person
31:48
does not accept the things of the spirit of
31:51
God for their followed him and he is not
31:53
able to understand them. Because. They're spiritually
31:55
discerned, So that just because we.
31:58
Can't. Do something doesn't mean. When. That.
32:00
That we're not guilty of not doing it
32:03
at the same thing is to just because
32:05
we must do something that doesn't mean we're
32:07
not guilty for doing that sauce. So the
32:09
scripture will say that it was determined it
32:11
was preordained that Judas would. Betray.
32:13
The Lord. And yet that does
32:16
not take away the guilt of his
32:18
action in doing it. This comes up
32:20
a lot in looters bonded to the
32:22
will and he's gonna kind of dig
32:24
in to the point of free will
32:26
and how it's connected. And but he'll
32:28
say, i mean just as an example.
32:30
Judas. Betrayed Christ through an active as
32:32
will I affirm that this will was about
32:35
to be in this very Judah. certainly and
32:37
infallibly. if God for new, it. With.
32:40
What I affirm be not yet sufficiently
32:42
understood. Less refer one sort of necessity
32:44
of violence to the work, and another
32:46
sort of necessity infallibility to the time.
32:48
You know. There's ways that we can
32:50
kind of dig in there and think
32:52
about how our free will is showing
32:54
up in connection with God's. Sovereignty
32:57
and his determination of things.
33:00
And. Then again, that's kind of the had
33:02
cracking point. But the point is that
33:04
just because it must have been done
33:06
by judas. Does. Not take away
33:08
the guilt of doing it. Taught.
33:11
If we could just bring in for
33:13
knowledge to this I mean when we
33:15
talk about the distinction between for knowledge
33:17
and election or what we would call
33:20
predestination, what we were wanna say this
33:22
predestination is pre determination so we want
33:24
to make that clear distinction. But when
33:26
we talk about for knowledge as we
33:28
do in the form of Concord article
33:30
A Loving we make this clear distinction.
33:32
the for knowledge as God knows all
33:34
things before they happen. But this is
33:36
not the cause of the evils of
33:39
that sin which compels somebody to do
33:41
something rocks. The The Source of course
33:43
ultimately as the dow both who enters
33:45
into Judas and of course mans wicked
33:47
perverse will. So this is not the
33:50
cause. God does not cause this because
33:52
he knows this is gonna happen, but
33:54
it's it's what the doubled and does
33:57
and and Judas himself in league with
33:59
The Doubt. Or goes against
34:01
God's Christ. Has
34:04
to get to eye. Marvin says when poll
34:06
introduces his letters with grace and peace to
34:09
you from God the Father and Our Lord
34:11
Jesus Christ. why doesn't he mentioned the Holy
34:13
Spirit. All. I.
34:15
I think this is wonderful Marvin because
34:17
I I've been pondering a lot on
34:19
the Book of Seasons lately and I
34:21
think that if you look at the
34:23
book of If he says this letter
34:25
to the converted baptized gentiles and actresses
34:27
seat, you can kind of see what's
34:29
taking place here. So notice of the
34:32
letter is going to be addressed to
34:34
the saints. That's those who have been
34:36
sanctified down who does the sanctifying work
34:38
well. When we we split up the
34:40
creed, we understand that third article of
34:42
the creed. the Holy Spirit is the
34:44
one who sanctified. By calling, gathering in
34:46
the lightning, and keeping people in the one
34:48
true faiths. And so when you're talking to
34:51
the saints, these are the ones who have
34:53
been sanctified by the work of the Holy
34:55
spirit. Open eyes to see and ears to
34:57
here and hard to believe. So you're writing
35:00
to those who are in the church where
35:02
the Holy Spirit is. It works. When the
35:04
third article the creed, that's where we're talking
35:06
about the forgiveness of sins. Okay, this is
35:09
where we have the gift of faith from
35:11
the Holy Spirit working through that word of
35:13
truth. So when you. You look at
35:15
a fetus. Chapter One you have that
35:17
greeting to the saints those who are
35:19
sanctified that you would have grace and
35:21
piece from God our Father and the
35:23
Lord Jesus Christ sorts to those who
35:26
are in the body of Christ those
35:28
were the church. The Holy Spirit is
35:30
it working So that's why. Later on
35:32
adverse thirteen and that first chapter we
35:34
can be assured as saying she says
35:36
in him in Christ's you also when
35:38
you heard the word of Truth okay
35:40
the gospel of your salvation of believed
35:42
in him you were sealed by the
35:44
promise. Holy Spirit. So that's where the
35:46
person in the work of the Holy
35:48
Spirit is in the church through that
35:50
word calling, gathering in the lightning and
35:53
keeping us in this one true faith
35:55
in So if you're you continue in.
35:57
That whole first chapter of Seasons were
35:59
talking about. The blood of Christ that
36:01
gives us the forgiveness of our trespasses
36:03
in his the Holy Spirit who is
36:05
it works for this his why you
36:07
will then later on of or seventeen
36:09
say that the God of our Lord
36:11
Jesus Christ the Father Glory may give
36:14
you the spirit of wisdom in revelation
36:16
in the knowledge of him having the
36:18
eyes of your heart enlightened that you
36:20
may know what the hope is to
36:22
which he has called you. What are
36:24
the riches of his glorious inheritance in
36:26
the Saints Go against those who are
36:28
sanctified by the Holy Spirit. The Holy
36:30
Spirit is the one who makes fully
36:33
so efficient ends. On this whole note,
36:35
the Christ himself is raised and he
36:37
is seated in the heavenly places with
36:39
the Father. He is the head in
36:41
the church, is the body and so
36:43
it's You See this flow into the
36:46
next chapter. The Christ is the one
36:48
who's making peace so remembered As letters
36:50
written to the body of Christ to
36:52
the people of God to the adopted
36:54
sons of God who have the hopes
36:56
of the bodily resurrection found a crisis
36:59
in So in chapter. Two, when you're
37:01
speaking to the baptized where the Holy
37:03
Spirit is it works, you're saying that
37:05
Christ is our peace. She's the one
37:07
who came to speak peace because he
37:09
makes reconciliation to God in one body
37:12
through the cross And so this is
37:14
what he comes to do. He came
37:16
in, he preached peace to those who
37:18
far off in those who are near
37:20
For through Christ we both have access
37:22
to in the one spirit to the
37:24
father. So this is where you're seeing
37:27
the work of the Holy Spirit here
37:29
in the life. Of the believers through
37:31
this words that has given to them
37:33
from parts because with Paul of course
37:35
is inspired by the holy spirit. And
37:38
so that's why Paul can rejoice and say
37:40
that we have access to the Father through
37:42
the sun, in the Holy spirit, the Holy
37:44
spirit, the one who brings us to the
37:47
sun, and the sun is the one brings
37:49
us to the Father. So that's the whole
37:51
idea here. That's you get to the end
37:54
of chapter two and were being built up
37:56
into this temple. You're. Being built up
37:58
an attempt to the lord a dwelling. Place for
38:00
got by the Holy Spirit by the spirit.
38:02
So this is where the spirit is and
38:04
then later on like in a fusions Chapter
38:07
four, that's where you have that confession of
38:09
faith. The kind of coincides with the three
38:11
articles of the creed, but notice that it
38:13
works backwards. You start off with the third
38:15
article. First you say one body in one
38:18
spirit just as you were called to the
38:20
one Hope the belongs to your call and
38:22
then you move up to the second article
38:24
one Lord, one phase, one Baptisms And then
38:26
you're going to move up to the first
38:29
article in One God. And Father of
38:31
was All who is overall and through
38:33
all and and off. So again. I
38:35
think the key here is that the
38:37
Holy Spirit is at work in that
38:39
ladder proclaiming Christ proclaiming piece which gives
38:41
us that reconciliation with the Father because
38:44
of the blood of Jesus. So that's
38:46
why you have peace coming from God
38:48
the Father and the science. But it's
38:50
the Holy Spirit who's working that peace
38:52
in our lives. Not like the Sons
38:54
of Disobedience when we were dead in
38:57
our trespasses. And you have the prince
38:59
of the power. Of the air, the
39:01
spirit. The evil spirit does it work at
39:03
them, but the holy spirit is it work
39:05
in God's holy people with his holy were.

Daniel. God. Says be
42:07

42:09
above the law. How can
42:11
see command Abraham to kill his son
42:13
when murder is clearly a sin. Or.
42:16
The Ten Commandments Intent only for
42:18
humanity By a God who is
42:20
fine ordering Abraham to violate a
42:22
clear commandments. It's.
42:25
Wonderful question and it leads
42:27
us into a deep reflection
42:30
of of God and Man
42:32
because. We. We do have
42:34
the prohibition against murder in the fifth
42:36
commandment, which is the unauthorized taking of
42:38
human life. God. Is. The.
42:41
One who is in fact authorized take
42:43
human life and he shares that authority
42:46
also with us, even according to the
42:48
fourth commandment when he gives the sword
42:50
to those who rule, so there is
42:52
an authorized taking of human life. Which
42:55
would be. Capital. Punishment or
42:58
in an act of
43:00
war? That that is
43:02
not murder. In fact,
43:04
that's. Of it just in
43:06
that commandment. For example, when the Lord. Is.
43:08
Talking to Noah after the flood and he
43:10
says whoever takes the life of a man.
43:13
His. Life shall be taken from him and
43:15
will. What's the difference Once murder and then
43:18
you follow Islam with more. More Know what
43:20
is murder and the other is the punishment
43:22
of murder. Capital punishment so that the Lord
43:24
does have the authority to take. Human
43:27
life. So when God. Takes.
43:29
A life. Either through
43:31
the natural means or. A
43:34
human means or even. Through
43:36
Hims just when he does it. For example,
43:38
when the fire consumes Nate Ebner by who
43:40
from the Temple that is not breaking the
43:43
commandments to murder The So we don't say
43:45
that God is breaking the fifth commandment when
43:47
someone dies he murdered because he's the one
43:49
and the only one who's was arrested. Take
43:51
a license part of the work of the
43:53
Ten Commandments as to distinguish between what God
43:55
is authorized to do and what Man is
43:57
authorized to do. We would say that God.
44:00
Then his unholy but a specific
44:02
incident of the command that God
44:04
gives to Abraham to sacrifice Isaac
44:06
and it. We need to take
44:08
a little bit of time and
44:10
understand what's going on there. As
44:12
the scriptures would have us understand
44:14
it's we often think of it
44:16
as. A. Test of. Abrahams
44:19
obedience to God. In
44:21
other words, God comes to Abraham and just
44:23
gives him something very difficult and unnatural to
44:26
do. He to take your son, your only
44:28
son, the sun that you love to first
44:30
time. The word love is used in the
44:32
Bible when God is talking to Abraham about
44:34
Isaac. Take the sun that you love so
44:37
much and he says only son even though
44:39
ethos around it. He. Got his
44:41
he saw off the table it specifically. we're going
44:43
to come back to that. It's as this Isaac
44:45
I want you to off from as a sacrifice
44:47
to me. And we
44:49
see it is sort of the
44:52
Lord saying hey, you just have
44:54
to can abandon all reason, abandon
44:56
all morality, abandon all. The.
44:58
Everything that I told you before. And.
45:01
And everything you know about my character and
45:03
with and abandon all that and go and
45:05
do this thing. That's normally how we think
45:08
of it, but that's not how the scriptures
45:10
present the sacrifice of Isaac. It must be
45:12
understood. In the context of the
45:14
promise. So remember the
45:17
big drama with Abraham is
45:19
that. He has that promise
45:21
that his seed is going to
45:23
bless the nation's He has the
45:25
promised continued from Genesis three. That.
45:27
When the lord speaks to Adam and Eve
45:30
in the garden that promise to pester capture
45:32
my are mentioned that proceed will crush your
45:34
head. And you will crush
45:36
his heels. So the seat as on
45:38
the waist and to Abraham as given that
45:40
promises a seat even those old. And he
45:43
doesn't have any children. So he tries to
45:45
make the seed promised come true by going
45:47
into Haggard having a child. And the Lord
45:49
excludes Ishmael from the promise sorry said he
45:52
saw Earthers excludes Ishmael from the promise. Sarah's
45:54
gonna have a child. And Sarah last remember.
45:56
But a year later she's pregnant and Isaac
45:59
is born. And it in Isaac
46:01
that the Lord says the promise will be
46:03
kept, that his children will be as many
46:05
as the stars in the sky in the
46:07
sand on the seats. and that from this
46:10
family will come one who will destroy the
46:12
Devil, the Messiah himself. So Abraham and Sara
46:14
or to look at Isaac as the child
46:17
of the promise And then the Lord says
46:19
now I want you to take that one
46:21
and sacrificing. So
46:23
Abraham has two things that he has to
46:25
fight against. He has to fight against the
46:27
promise of God that Isaac will have lots
46:29
of children and that one of those children
46:31
to be the Messiah amd. The. God
46:34
is asking for Isaacs life. And
46:37
he's has to say well, how in
46:39
the world can this be can God
46:41
keep his promise? Even if Isaac dies
46:43
and Abraham says yes, God must keep
46:46
his promise, Isaac must be alive and
46:48
must be able to have children so
46:50
that I can offer up Isaac and
46:52
the Lord will raise them from the
46:54
dead. And that's what
46:57
Hebrews teaches us to think about. the
46:59
test of Abraham and Isaac. That Abraham
47:01
do that even if he offered Isaac
47:03
that of the what would raise him
47:05
from the dead, even if he burned
47:07
Isaac, he would raise up the ashes
47:09
so that God would keep his promise
47:11
from Isaac. And so the story of
47:13
Abraham and Isaac is not just of kind
47:15
of role obedience, but it is. Do
47:17
you believe that God keeps his promises.
47:20
Are. Just happens that god. Seemingly.
47:22
Always is working in our own lives against
47:24
his promises and this is the same thing
47:26
to do. We believe that God can keep
47:28
his promises, that our sins are forgiven, that
47:30
we will live forever and we'd have looks
47:32
like words, sinners, condemned and dying. but the
47:34
Lord's s know whoever believes in me will
47:36
not die forever. You will live in recounts
47:38
the glories of Aboard The Lord is kind
47:40
to us, our sins are forgiven and so
47:42
were called to trust the promise in spite
47:45
of what's in front of us. And
47:47
that's what's going on with Abraham and Isaac
47:49
and I And I think that's really important
47:51
to understand that God is not somehow immoral,
47:54
But. That he is. In. Fact
47:57
Good And he. Always.
47:59
Been. Bringing us into that goodness
48:01
by face and the loved it follows.
48:06
A question for Pastor Kettle
48:08
My or from tripped us.
48:12
What? Is the Lutheran view of
48:14
Isaiah Fourteen, Twelve through Fifteen and
48:16
as He Killed eight? Twelve.
48:19
To Nineteen in reference to having
48:21
any insight into the origins, aims,
48:23
and mindset for main adversary, the
48:25
devil. Also, I've heard the dame
48:28
Lucifer. Is. A result of
48:30
a mistranslation, light of such an
48:32
error and the metaphorical sense of
48:34
the previous passages dealing with a
48:37
human residence spiritual entities. Is this
48:39
the typical Protestant even self reliance
48:41
upon these misinterpretations and the zealand
48:44
which they proffer This narrative. A
48:46
proof against. A lot of this
48:49
except and. Church Ducks. What?
48:52
Passages is referring to their pester.
48:55
Well I think that what we have to
48:57
do first of all is just look at
48:59
the bigger picture itself. Would you look at
49:02
the Old Testament and you have the kings
49:04
of this earth. The kings of this earth
49:06
are always and animosity against God and his
49:08
kingdom out as God's kingdom com it's through
49:11
the hearing of the word of God in
49:13
the work of the Holy spirit. With that
49:15
words God gives the word gives the gift
49:18
of the holy spirit again which opens eyes
49:20
to see years to here and. Hard
49:22
to believe, but the Kingdoms of this
49:24
Earth do not want that to happen.
49:26
The Kingdoms of this Earth are always
49:29
trying to prevent the Kingdom of God
49:31
from comics. So what are they always
49:33
trying to do? It is they're trying
49:35
to stop the preaching and the proclamation
49:38
of God's work. That's what they do.
49:40
And when you see the Kings of
49:42
the Earth, they are representatives of Satan.
49:44
Okay, because that's exactly what cited as
49:47
a it's a war of words. The
49:49
Devil is always putting doubt in question.
49:51
Did. God. Really say that. Always try
49:53
to take us astray and away from
49:55
God's words and especially his word of
49:58
promises fulfilled in his son. So. You
50:00
look at the kings of the
50:02
Earth, you see this league with
50:04
the Devil. They're in a league
50:06
with the Devil. So when you're
50:08
in Egypt, Pharaoh will not let
50:10
the people of God go. Why?
50:12
Because in, they're gonna hear the
50:15
word of God, they're going to
50:17
rejoice in the sacrifices that God
50:19
institutes which ultimately points to the
50:21
all availing sacrifice of Christ on
50:23
the Cross rights. And so when
50:25
Moses is confronting Pharaoh, Pharaoh is
50:27
going to reject the word and
50:29
resist. The work of the Holy
50:31
Spirit. So you have the spiritual
50:33
battle going on where the kingdoms
50:35
of this earth are trying to
50:37
prevent God's kingdom from coming. So
50:39
Pharaoh Himself, the King of Egypt
50:42
is a tyrant and he represents
50:44
the tyrant of tyrants. Okay, so
50:46
that's gonna be the issue that
50:48
you're gonna see in Isaiah chapter
50:50
fourteen where you have this picture
50:52
of what's going on with the
50:54
King of Babylon. So now you
50:56
go from what took place before
50:58
in slavery in captivity. In Egypt
51:00
to now slavery in captivity in
51:02
Babylon. and so now the King
51:04
of Babylon is just going to
51:06
be exactly like the King of
51:09
Egypt's Keys in league with the
51:11
Devil trying to prevent God's Kingdom
51:13
from comics. So you will see
51:15
the similarity with Satan in so
51:17
the actions in the way that
51:19
he's working as a tyrant. he's
51:21
working as a puppet of the
51:23
tyrant of tyrants and tried to
51:25
prevent God's kingdom from coming by
51:27
preventing the hearing. So that's why.
51:29
And Isaiah. Fourteen, you have the promise
51:31
that you're going to be delivered out
51:33
of this. you're going to be deliver
51:35
out of this oppressors. And so it
51:38
was shall happened in that day that
51:40
you always gonna give you rest from
51:42
your pain and your turmoil and your
51:44
hard labor which you had to perform.
51:46
So this is all very similar to
51:48
that slavery in captivity in Egypt, not
51:50
being in the land of promise waiting
51:52
for the promised seed of the verge
51:54
and to crush serpents. Had the baby
51:56
boy of joy born in Bethlehem worth
51:59
Jesus who was. Crucified outside of Jerusalem
52:01
given up as that all availing sacrificed
52:03
in. So you're going to be released
52:05
from this captivity and you're going to
52:07
set your eyes on the Kingdom of
52:09
God, The Kingdom of God coming. the
52:11
promise. So that in that day you're
52:13
going to take up a taunt against
52:15
the King of Babylon. You're going to
52:17
mock him. You going to make fun
52:19
of him because you know the God
52:21
is the one who is in control
52:23
here. I mean, this is like Som
52:25
to the Kings of the Earth's They're
52:27
taking council together, they're plotting, and they're
52:29
planning against. Ya away in his Christ.
52:31
but what does? yeah we do. He
52:33
laughs. He lasted ten hut. Going to
52:35
do twenty six I'm it's like us.
52:37
a little and tail and your backyard.
52:39
Think that they're going to just over
52:42
your whole entire house. Well they're not
52:44
gonna win their little answer. Gonna get
52:46
squished rights. And so guys is mocking
52:48
God is laughing at this joke. Have
52:50
an idea? They're going to prevent God's
52:52
kingdom from coming. So that's the times.
52:55
And. You're going to say how the oppressor
52:57
has seized his insulin says seized your
52:59
way has broken the staff of the
53:01
wicked, the scepter of the rulers of
53:03
struck down the people in his wrath
53:05
And so this is what's God is
53:07
gonna do to deliver. And so you
53:09
have that same idea or did you
53:12
have how you are fallen from have
53:14
an old days star son of dogs
53:16
so that's that terms that we we
53:18
have here the Yes from the latin
53:20
this is where you get Lucifer but
53:22
just understand that that means light bearer.
53:24
Okay so. It's not that it's because
53:26
of the latin is confused us but
53:28
what what's happening is just that we
53:31
we forget the Old Testament and that
53:33
behind these kings of the Earth is
53:35
the devil who's that tired of tyrants
53:37
so in his equal you'll see that
53:39
same understanding with the King of Tire
53:41
that you're gonna have this lament over
53:43
the King of Tire. Thus says your
53:46
way you were a perfect model of
53:48
an example So gets remember the in
53:50
this life a king is supposed to
53:52
be God's representative on earth. So God
53:54
is placed. Things in to order to
53:56
that the king is gonna give gods
53:59
good gifts. That's why Luther will
54:01
say that the King's coat of arms
54:03
should be a loaf of bread or
54:05
maybe some weed because the King is
54:07
the one who's supposed to provide for
54:09
the well being of those and is
54:11
kinda gonna give to them the physical
54:13
sustenance that they need. So the kings,
54:15
even the evil kings God puts in
54:18
place so that God can give his
54:20
good gifts of food, the gives his
54:22
good gifts of protection in this life.
54:24
But what happens is that the kings
54:26
of this earth turn away from God
54:28
and then they go in. Rebellion with
54:30
Satan so that it's a picture of with
54:32
Satan. Did Satan originally was a messenger and
54:35
the heavenly places his have fallen messenger who's
54:37
trying to prevent the kingdom to com. So
54:39
those who are his puppets those who are
54:41
in league with him are doing the same
54:44
type of the thing. So that's why this
54:46
picture here goes all the way back to
54:48
the Garden of Eden you were in Eat
54:50
in the Garden of God. This is equal
54:52
twenty eight and so you're going back to
54:55
Worth. The Devil originally tried to prevent God's
54:57
kingdom from coming to Adam and Eve and
54:59
he continues. To do that in the
55:01
kingdoms of this earth. So that's why
55:03
the New Testaments. We will call him
55:05
the Prince of the power, the Air's
55:07
or even the God of this world.
55:10
The so called God of this World
55:12
school blinds the unbelievers from the gospel,
55:14
but it's the Holy Spirit who opens
55:16
eyes to see. Passers.

58:00
The questions was going to really catch
58:02
on. Earth has to brian was miller
58:04
said about ten minutes. It's this week
58:06
and Pop Christianity with Chris Roseboro. As
58:09
a Wolf Miller, here's question from loop:
58:11
I was wondering what is meant in
58:13
first Corinthian Six Three about judging angels.
58:16
Also. How should we understand second
58:18
printing size ten and others like it? That.
58:21
Speaks of appearing before the judgment seat of
58:23
Christ and giving an accent. Yeah,
58:26
these are some tricky questions because
58:28
we have this idea. Jesus in
58:30
fact will say it. Don't you
58:32
know that you will be the
58:34
ones who will will judge the
58:36
angels And the Lord's kind of
58:38
reflects that as as well. So
58:40
maybe here's one texts that we
58:42
can look at a Seasons Three
58:45
Ten. It says that through the
58:47
Church, the manifold wisdom of God.
58:49
Might. Now be made known to
58:51
the rulers and authorities in the
58:53
heavenly places. It's a pretty amazing
58:55
text to reflect on and thinking
58:57
of us that the angels and
59:00
we get this even though the
59:02
the good whole the angels are
59:04
marveling to look in to the
59:06
works that the lord is doing.
59:08
They. Marvel to look into the to the
59:10
love of God and Christ to the and
59:13
to the mysteries of the faith is or
59:15
even mysteries to them that the goddess become
59:17
a man that the angels like of. Luther
59:20
talks about this with Jacob's Ladder when the angels
59:22
are going up and down. He says the incarnations
59:24
kind of disorient the angels to their use the
59:26
looking up to see the son of God. They're
59:28
in heaven. but now they're gonna look down to
59:30
see him in the manger and on the cross
59:32
and they marvel at these things so that the
59:34
works of God. Especially for the children
59:37
of Adam and Eve are a marvel to
59:39
the angels, but to the fallen angels as
59:41
well. That. They are
59:43
also learning about the works that God
59:45
is doing. the merciful and kind works
59:48
of God. Through. The
59:50
church. So this again this
59:52
of reasons three texas the through the
59:54
church the manifold wisdom of God is
59:56
now known to the rulers and the
59:58
authorities in the heavenly place. Now
1:00:00
I think from that text we I
1:00:02
we go back to loose question say
1:00:04
how is it that the Christian would
1:00:07
judge the angels It's not that we
1:00:09
going to judge the whole the angels
1:00:11
the angels who are righteous and who
1:00:13
keep God's law who's behold his face
1:00:15
day and night but rather we will
1:00:17
be judges of the fallen angels so
1:00:19
that part of their condemnation. Will
1:00:21
be in the failed attempt to overthrow
1:00:24
our faith and to dissuade us from
1:00:26
believing in the promises of God and
1:00:28
the the Lord will give us the
1:00:30
privilege of being a being part of
1:00:32
that condemnation. and that's probably what's indicated
1:00:35
by. You. Will judge the angels.
1:00:37
So. I think that's right, the ought to
1:00:39
the broader question of judgment. Your How do we
1:00:42
understand these. Texts. That say
1:00:44
that we're going to appear before the
1:00:46
Judgment seat of Christ and given account.
1:00:48
I think that maybe the most important
1:00:50
thing here. Is to
1:00:52
see that for Paul the judgment.
1:00:55
For the christian. Is. Not.
1:00:58
A. Frightful thing. But.
1:01:00
Rather, a joyful thing. In
1:01:03
other words, when Paul says. We. Must
1:01:05
all appear before the judgment seat of
1:01:07
Christ. That's. Not bad news
1:01:09
for Paul. That's. Good news
1:01:11
that's hopeful news he says so that each
1:01:13
one may receive what is due for what
1:01:15
he's done in the body. what's good or
1:01:18
evil he says it like here's the whole
1:01:20
contacts to so we're always have good courage
1:01:22
for we know that while we're at home
1:01:24
and the body were away from the board
1:01:26
for we walked by faith and not by
1:01:28
site where of good courage and we would
1:01:30
rather be away from the body and at
1:01:33
home with the lord So whether what homer
1:01:35
way we make it er waits our aim
1:01:37
to please him for wish all appear before
1:01:39
the judge receipt of Christ. So
1:01:41
that we understand the judgment for the
1:01:43
christian in the context of. Romans.
1:01:46
Eight And John Five. So Roms Eight says,
1:01:48
there's no condemnation for those who had Christ
1:01:50
Jesus. or maybe even more clearly, these words
1:01:52
we have to carve into our hearts what
1:01:54
Jesus as And John Five, Twenty Four. Truly
1:01:56
Truly I say to you Whoever here's my
1:01:58
word and believes it. Who sent
1:02:00
me has eternal life. He does
1:02:03
not come into judgment. But.
1:02:05
As passed from death to life. So
1:02:07
that judgment for the christian. Is.
1:02:10
Not a day of condemnation. There's.
1:02:12
No more condemnation for those who are
1:02:15
and christians, but a day of confirmation
1:02:17
and reward. If
1:02:19
we do have a fear of the Judgment day. We.
1:02:22
Should I suppose thank God for it in
1:02:24
this sense is that the holy spirit is
1:02:26
working in us, contrition or discussed for our
1:02:28
own since and we rejoice in that sorrow
1:02:30
for arson and we fight against it. But
1:02:32
we don't lose heart because we know that
1:02:35
soon the flesh will be put off and
1:02:37
will be further clothes in the glorious haven't
1:02:39
and it finally in the resurrection the body.
1:02:42
So so the Judgment Day is
1:02:44
for the christian a day of
1:02:46
of of of hope. A. Day
1:02:48
of Glory A day of peace or
1:02:51
day that we long for because Christ
1:02:53
is already made the judgment on our
1:02:55
eternal. Life in his death and
1:02:57
Resurrection that our sins are forgiven. Susan.
1:03:01
Asks what are the beans in
1:03:03
Genesis? Six one through four. Yeah.
1:03:07
Sexual Ethics. Thanks for asking this
1:03:09
question. That this question seems to
1:03:11
come up by quite a bit
1:03:13
because everybody wants know this mysterious
1:03:15
things are. I mean it hits
1:03:17
hits best are one of Miller
1:03:19
nine for years as talked about
1:03:21
this long long long time ago.
1:03:23
The ideas your people say these
1:03:25
are aliens or something like that
1:03:27
at but what we want to
1:03:29
do is we we just what
1:03:31
I understand clearly from the text
1:03:33
that these are those who are
1:03:36
mighty men. Okay, so they're mighty
1:03:38
man and they're doing something contrary to
1:03:40
God's work. And I mean that's really
1:03:42
the key here. And what we want
1:03:45
to see is this contrast between the
1:03:47
sons of God on the one hand,
1:03:49
those who are believers interesting in a
1:03:52
promise and then the daughters of men,
1:03:54
those who were rejected because we we
1:03:56
we've talked about before where you see
1:03:59
that this whole. The distinction between those
1:04:01
who call upon the name of your
1:04:03
way and those who don't. So that's
1:04:05
where we are. where with people who
1:04:07
continue to grow and hear the word
1:04:09
of God. And then there are those
1:04:12
who refuse. They they reject the word
1:04:14
and resist the work of the Holy
1:04:16
spirit. So that's the whole key here.
1:04:18
So that's why you have this contrast
1:04:20
of the Daughters of men. They're going
1:04:22
in the way of the world. They're
1:04:25
acting like Adam in Rebellion Against Scots.
1:04:27
That's the old man. That's the old
1:04:29
way of doing. Things but those who
1:04:31
are being renewed who are sons of
1:04:33
God who are adopted by God into
1:04:35
the family have the work of the
1:04:37
Holy Spirit. Okay the Holy Spirit is
1:04:40
in asked working these things so that
1:04:42
we have new thoughts, do desires, new
1:04:44
actions, new words. I mean that's the
1:04:46
newness of life And so noticed that
1:04:48
in the context you have my spiritual
1:04:50
not abide and man for ever for
1:04:53
he has flashed. So this is that
1:04:55
the issue Really hear you you have
1:04:57
the spirit is not going bite forever.
1:04:59
So now. You have this this distinction
1:05:01
between those who are listening to the
1:05:03
Word of God and those who rejecting
1:05:06
the Word of God. If you reject
1:05:08
the Word of God, the Holy Spirit
1:05:10
is is not going to be at
1:05:12
work in your hearts and that's why
1:05:14
we want to see later on in
1:05:16
the New Testament in the Baptism of
1:05:18
Jesus. When the Holy Spirit remains in
1:05:21
abides on Jesus in his baptisms being
1:05:23
anointed by the Holy Spirit in the
1:05:25
form of the Dubs, the Jesus is
1:05:27
the one who's given the Holy Spirit
1:05:29
without measure. According to his human
1:05:31
nature of course according to his divine
1:05:34
nature is already in this the this
1:05:36
unity of acid. So with the father
1:05:38
of. In the Holy Spirit.
1:05:40
But it's Jesus who then pours out
1:05:43
the Holy spirit. That's the significance of
1:05:45
going and preparing a place for us
1:05:47
in the Ascension stances are high priests
1:05:49
and then he pours out the Holy
1:05:51
Spirit on the the day a Pentecost
1:05:54
which we will celebrate shortly in which
1:05:56
the Holy Spirit is it works, opening
1:05:58
our eyes so that we. See
1:06:00
the promises of Christ and the scripture.
1:06:02
So that's why the whole Book of
1:06:04
Acts as all about the work of
1:06:06
the Holy Spirit bringing this understanding first
1:06:08
to the Jews and then later going
1:06:10
out to the gentiles. So yeah it's
1:06:13
you say that this is fulfillment of
1:06:15
what George after to said that the
1:06:17
Holy spirit be poor doubts and immediately
1:06:19
you have Peter proclaiming som sixteen clearly
1:06:21
about the person work of Christ and
1:06:23
Psalm One ten clearly about the person
1:06:25
work Christ. So that's where we really
1:06:27
want to go here. We don't want
1:06:29
to speculate. Where These aliens Or. How
1:06:33
big are these giants? I mean these
1:06:35
are mighty men And the issue with
1:06:37
the mighty men is loser will say
1:06:39
is these are guys who become tyrants
1:06:41
So they use their power in this
1:06:43
life to overpower others into a press.
1:06:45
others and a nap becomes a picture
1:06:47
of what the devil is trying to
1:06:50
do. Who is a tyrant of tyrants.
1:06:53
A question from came pacific.
1:06:57
I'm wondering if these two accounts is
1:06:59
kay, are. Talking about seems
1:07:01
that massive Nine, Eighteen, Twenty Six, and
1:07:03
Mark Five. Twenty Twenty Twenty four.
1:07:05
What the hell Yeah, these are the
1:07:08
when Jesus is going to a certain
1:07:10
ruler since for Jesus my daughter is
1:07:12
dying, my daughter's or six my daughter's
1:07:14
dying. And as is going, there's a
1:07:16
woman who has a disease of blood
1:07:18
and she reaches and touches the gamut
1:07:20
of Jesus. It's very interesting that there's
1:07:23
some subtle differences in the text and
1:07:25
when we see those we we've said
1:07:27
what. Maybe it's happening at two different
1:07:29
times, but I think in this case
1:07:31
with talking about the same event and
1:07:33
in the same. Story of Jesus
1:07:36
and we're getting a slightly different perspective from
1:07:38
Matthew and Mark. This brings us into that
1:07:40
kind of the wonder of how the Gospels
1:07:42
are presented to us as witnesses. So we're
1:07:44
getting different angles of the same event, but
1:07:47
I think it's It's pretty good to say
1:07:49
in this case that it is the same
1:07:51
story that's happening and we're getting it's from
1:07:53
a slightly different angle cause it has to
1:07:56
the differences has to do with didn't really
1:07:58
say she's dead or she's die. And
1:08:00
we have those to accounts, but it seems like
1:08:03
from one perspective it's almost like she's as good
1:08:05
as dead and then the other is kind of
1:08:07
filling in the story that while the ruler was
1:08:09
they're saying she's dying she had actually already died
1:08:11
and that details being sealed and later. But the
1:08:14
I think it's the same account. That's
1:08:16
brambles. Miller is passed from St. Paul
1:08:18
in Jesus' Death Lutheran Churches in Austin,
