"All" is such a persistent word. It just won't let us ignore it or explain it away. And in the context of the Bible verses we read in today's meditation, ALL refers to every human, all mankind. It is not "all kinds of". Not "all the good folks", "all the believers". No qualification is supplied in the texts. The good tidings is for ALL people. ALL people will be drawn to Jesus, he tells us. It is God's determination that ALL will be saved, and come to an accurate knowledge of the truth. God will dwell with mankind. Not some men, most men, the nice men. All men. And all their tears will be wiped away.
On other days, we will look at the human potential for opting out of God's family. But today we read a few verses, starting with Revelation 21:1-4, which emphasize the completeness of God's promises of salvation from inherited death.
If there is a pathway out of our disease and death, our history of failure, our desperation and sadness at the injustices of the human story -- ALL of those injustices and tragedies -- that would be good news indeed.
