Blog---May 3, 2024—10-11—---It’s YOUR Agri Business----------Show 44-65-----------------This is the first Friday of our It’s YOUR Agri-Business Show in May----and you’ll find we travel a lot of the same roads with the same people. However in addition to our usual cast of characters---not players with their stories and their reactions are included.
In this show ---Darren Hefty—Ag Phd –talked to us about the concerns---those in Ag have are simple---with the seeds that were dropped in the soil---be warm enough---or even dry enough to survive and perhaps create a great year. We asked the question to South Dakota’s Climatologist Laura Edwards  just before we closed the show.
We talked as well about a question I posed to Mr. Hefty before I did a Precision Agriculture show mid-week. What I was hearing from our friends at SDSU was about the value of Precision Agriculture education. Darren—being a proud alumni talked about SDSU is the only school with this degree program. He says it makes the students even more attractive to businesses.
So today we talked about the young lady—who came to SDSU from Minnesota—must 30 or 40 miles from the Twin Cities. She is now a senior and will graduate---singing the praises of what she learned in Brookings.
As it turns out she has been recruited by our friends at Pheasants Forever---just happens our 2nd guest—Jared Wiklund is with Pheasants Forever---and he too sang the praises of what they are doing at South Dakota State.
In addition he filled in he blanks for us ---applauding the action of the Agriculture Committee leadership in both the US Senate and House to put forward their proposals for a 2024 Farm Bill with Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) unveiling the Rural Prosperity and Security Act and House Committee on Ag Chair Glen Thompson releasing his committee’s Farm Bill Overview.
Jared shared that while there is still much work to be done, these proposals appear to support farmers, sportsmen and women and yes rural communities by strengthening popular, voluntary conservation programs, increasing access to the great outdoors, and preserving working lands and wildlife habitat for future generations.
Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever also acknowledges the exemplary work of House Committee on Ag Chairman Thompson wo introduced his framework of the 2024 Farm Bill. The overview provided by the House Committee also addresses some of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s top priorities including improve CRP incentives for marginal lands as well as VPA-HIP funding.
We’ll see what develops from here.
10:18---Joe Batchellor—Downtown Sioux Falls gave a few of the things that could be done this First Friday Weekend of May. You can go to the Podcast to hear what he said—what he talked about---and what he sees ahead.
Sarah Heinrich-Growing Harvest Network---had her packaged report ready for our South Dakota-Minnesota—Iowa-Nebraska audience---at the least.
Matt Swenson—gave us the markets---the grains—the meat—the energy and the big board on Wall Street.
Right behind Jaime Wood---gave us the 9 statewide- SBA State Winners----and we were proud to see the hit Rapid City, Aberdeen, and Sioux Falls for the most part-while reaching out to others in their travels across the Rushmore State.
One more event planned for next Tuesday—May 7th—10am CT, to bring all the awardees together in one virtual satewide awards ceremony---so that many people can see the top 2024 businesses and hear a bit about their journeys and how they are making their businesses thrive and why they were selected as a SD Top Business for 2024.
Tuesday at 9:00 SBA and Better Business Bureau are partnering for an informational Webinar called “What Small Business Administrations can do for entrepreneurs in South Dakota.
Dee Ann Konrad ---Sioux Falls Schools updated us on the Mock-Mass Casualty Training that included a plane crash—a tornado and a semi-vs building crash—with one emergency scenario covered separately. Training scenarios occurred all da---with 40 CTE students and 60 playing victims with the help of Police-Fire ad Patient Care-EMS Ambulance Service.
It is an educational experience and we are still working with Dee Ann and the Sioux Falls Schools to talk with some of those that took part in this energetic and important event.
Alla---who lived in Ukraine---and step by step was able to help get her sisters, her mom and dad to South Dakota---talked more this morning about who else is involved---what they are learning what our audience can do to help those who are here wanting to be a part of the life in SD.
Laura Edwards-State Climatologist helped us look to the seeds in the ground-will they survive—and the weather ahead. Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show is available live at 1320, 105.1, 107.9---and with a podcast that Norm Anderson will post on our website—look for the May 3, 2024-10-11-It’s Your Agri Business show. She these notes as a guide to what is in the show and where-or feel free to call/text me at 605-728-BILL. (2455)
