What is trust? Is it an act of faith or is it a sense of reliability based on past experience, facts, and data? Trust is both an emotional and logical act. We feel trust. Emotionally, it's where you expose your vulnerabilities to people believing they will not take advantage of your openness. Logically, it's where you have assessed the probabilities of gain and loss, calculated expected utility based on hard performance data, and concluded that a person will behave in a predictable manner. In practice, trust is a bit of both. Trust begins as an act of faith and evolves into a belief based on evidence. I trust you because I have faith in human nature and I have experienced your trustworthiness.
