Joe Sperle talks with Bismarck High School senior, Skyler Strand, who organized the Sandlot Baseball Tournament playing games in Bismarck, ND, Friday and Saturday, March 15-16.. This was one of the first sporting events in the U.S.  since the Covid-19 shutdown all sporting events  mid-March. Joe will talk with Skyler about the North Dakota high school baseball  2020 season cancelled due to Covid-19.  Skyler, a catcher, did not want his senior year to end this way, so he started to put the word out about playing some baseball games in Bismarck.  There was a large response from high school age players across North Dakota who wanted to play in the baseball tournament.   The tournament grew to 9 teams, 4 from Bismarck and 5 from Mandan, Williston, Kidder County, Carrington, and Renville County.

Baseball brought players and people together after World War II and again baseball  has brought players and familites together on the baseball fields in Bismarck after the Covid-19 Pandemic. The past 3 months historical hard times with thousands of businesses closing,  millions of job lay-offs and no sporting events being played  has been compared to the worst times in the world since World War II in 1939-45..
