Troy Abraham is a Californian who now resides in Sydney. We saw each other while out walking, during our ‘lockdown’ daily exercise, and decided to catch up once restrictions were eased (thankfully they were) and record a podcast. Troy teaches yoga at a fairly high level, running teacher trainings and workshops. He is a fast talking, fast thinking, entertaining guy that makes for a captivating conversation. We talk about life under lockdown, the spread of information in the digital world, social media and human behaviour. We also discuss the yoga world and how fact and science often get caught up in vagueness and ‘woo-woo’.
When it comes to the artwork for the show, Troy came straight out and asked me to make, without a doubt, the cheesiest, surf kitsch kind of image I have ever been asked to produce. He wanted an image of him “as the buddha, sitting in the lotus position, hovering above my surfboard, in a deep righthand barrel”. So I said yes, then wondered what the heck I had got myself into…
Things mentioned during the podcast:
It was actually Joseph Goebbels that said: ‘If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.’
Steven Kotler – The Rise of Superman
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi – Flow
David Byrne – How Music Works
Tristan Harris – You’re Undivided Attention Podcast
Paulo Coelho – The Alchemist
Thanks for listening.
Enjoy your day,
