The second half of the turkey hunt primer with Mark Hall. Mark is the creator of the Hunter Conservationist Podcast and a few others. Please be sure to check out his shows on the Hunter Conservationist website.
Mark has been hunting wild turkeys near his home in southern BC for the past twenty years and loves to share his knowledge. He also offers a Turkey Hunting masterclass that is comprehensive enough to get you started chasing these magnificent birds. That class is available here.
In this episode, Mark discusses some of the hunting tools we can use and how to set them up. Patterning shotguns is something that should be done more often than it is by most of us. What are the appropriate turkey loads for the different shotguns?
We also chat about some of the hunting situations and setups that Mark and Curtis have employed over the years and how we might set up in an attempt to record the audio for the actual hunt episode in April. There are a couple of fun hunting stories in this episode.
Finally, we chat about some of the ways to enjoy eating wild turkey...and the dangerous companions we might encounter during the hunt. Welcome to the Food Afield Podcast, a hunting and fishing wild food journey!
