Time can be thought about in many ways. You can think about time in the sense of the calendar: days, weeks, months and years. You can also think about time related to the clock: seconds, minutes, hours. Or you may think about time related to the themes and events in your life: high school, college, first job, first apartment, breakups, engagements, weddings, deaths, babies, etc. No matter how we are measuring time, it all comes down to two choices: to let time constrict you or to let it empower you. Either way, time is a constant. Time cannot be changed, altered, or controlled. We cannot make more, we cannot make less. Similar to the saying my dad likes to share, “It's not a problem if there's no solution. If there's no solution, or no way to change it, then it's a fact.” The fact is time is what it is. We may not be able to change the hours in a day, the days in a year, or the stage of our lives that we are in currently. However, there is one thing that we can change and that's our relationship to time.

During the month of January, I've toyed with this theme of time. While at times (pun intended), I struggled with accepting the hours I had in my day to complete certain tasks and the days in my calendar quickly filling up for each big life event happening in 2016, I also experienced moments of peace with my time. I could step back and realize that time and to-do lists were two separate entities. I recognized that I had the ability to plan or not plan things into my daily schedule. Exactly what I did with my time was completely up to me. (Remember, I'm not yet married and I have no kids running around. So truly, I'm free to do what I want with my time.)
