Welcome to Enjoying Everyday Life
0:03
with New York Times bestselling author Joyce Meyer.
0:06
On today's program Joyce will be teaching from her
0:08
series The Book of Ephesians. When
0:11
we look at the Book of Ephesians, Paul's words
0:13
are foundational for every believer.
0:16
They help us to understand who we are in how
0:18
much he loves us, and how we can grow
0:21
a stronger, more intimate relationship with
0:23
God. So today let's go deeper
0:25
in God's Word. Listen as Joyce walks
0:27
through Ephesians by chapter, showing
0:30
us how we can apply
0:30
its truths to our lives. Now
0:33
here's Joyce with today's series on the
0:35
book of Ephesians. Now
0:39
verse 31 and 32 goes
0:40
back to the mouth again and
0:44
anger and a few other things. So
0:46
we're going to read through this real quick. If you need any
0:48
of you can just take it and then we'll go on by and
0:51
go do something that maybe you will need if you
0:53
don't need this. I'm joking. need
0:56
this. You're supposed
0:58
to laugh at my jokes. It makes me feel better.
1:03
Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath, passion,
1:05
rage, bad temper, resentment, anger, animosity,
1:08
quarreling, brawling, clamor, contention.
1:11
Anybody found anything the list yet that suits
1:13
you? Slander.
1:16
That means talking about about other people,
1:19
evil speaking, abusive, blasphemous
1:21
language, let it be banished
1:22
from you. Get
1:24
it as far away from you as you can possibly
1:26
get it away from you with all malice, spite,
1:29
ill will or baseness of any kind and instead
1:31
become useful and helpful and kind
1:33
to one another. Tender
1:35
hearted, compassionate, understanding,
1:37
loving hearted, forgiving one another. You
1:40
women want to be understood especially.
1:43
And let me tell you something, men. The
1:46
best that you can do when
1:49
your wife is having a hormone fit is
1:53
to just say, honey, I understand. Now,
1:56
you don't understand. You will never understand.
1:59
somehow What makes us feel better if
2:01
you say, I understand you
2:04
don't want to look at a woman who has
2:06
got every hormone going in a different direction
2:08
and say, what is the matter with you?
2:18
Those are two very
2:21
powerful words. I
2:23
understand.
2:25
I remember when I used to be like that and Dave
2:27
would give me logic. There
2:29
is nothing that an emotional
2:31
woman hates worse than male logic.
2:35
So please don't give it to us. Amen.
2:39
Just say, I
2:42
understand honey. I understand.
2:45
I know you had a rough day. I understand.
2:48
Come and get a hug. Just
2:52
a little free advice for the men there. Now
2:57
I want to say something to you before I go on to chapter
3:00
five. It's easy to
3:02
hear teaching that is easy
3:05
to hear. But
3:07
in order to receive teaching
3:09
like I'm doing here tonight and going to do
3:12
again tomorrow, you have to know
3:14
who you are in Christ. Because if you don't know
3:16
who you are in Christ, it will make you feel condemned.
3:18
And
3:20
I have no interest sending all of you
3:22
out of here feeling guilty because you've
3:26
located about 25 behaviors that
3:28
need to change. I
3:32
so much remember when I first started
3:34
sitting under the teaching of the word and
3:37
I told
3:41
them, I said, I'm, I've got a problem. If
3:43
I don't drink water, my throat gets dry. And if
3:45
I do, then I got to the bathroom all the time. So
3:50
anyway, aren't Aren't you glad I share all my secrets
3:52
with you? And
3:56
I can remember sitting in church services like
3:58
you're sitting in the night and when. Somebody
4:00
would teach on something that confronted my behavior.
4:03
I would always just go home condemned
4:06
because I did not know who I was in Christ.
4:09
I didn't understand chapters one, two and
4:11
three yet.
4:13
So it was hard for me to hear chapter four, five
4:15
and six. Are you with me? And
4:18
if you don't know who you are in Christ, if you don't
4:20
know that you've been made right with God
4:23
through the blood of Jesus, then
4:26
every time that God tries to convict
4:28
you. the devil will take it
4:30
and turn it into condemnation. Every
4:33
time anybody tries to correct you, it's
4:36
going to turn into you trying to defend
4:38
yourself
4:40
and condemnation. Only
4:42
a fool hates correction.
4:45
And the word of God is going to bring correction
4:48
to a lot of our lives as
4:50
we continue on tonight and
4:52
tomorrow. And don't you stay home tomorrow
4:54
just because I told you that because
4:57
that is the silliest thing that you can do. Don't
5:00
avoid something that you're gonna have to go
5:02
through anyway later on.
5:05
And so I want us to look at Hebrews chapter five
5:08
for just a minute
5:08
so I can show you something important before we
5:10
move on. Hebrews five, 12 through 14.
5:16
For even though by this time
5:19
you ought to be teaching others, you
5:23
actually need somebody to teach you
5:25
over again The very first
5:27
principles of God's word. You have
5:30
come to need milk
5:32
and not solid food. For
5:34
everyone who continues to feed on milk is
5:37
obviously inexperienced in
5:39
the doctrine of righteousness. I
5:42
love that. He's saying, if the only
5:44
kind of word that we can hear is
5:47
stuff that pats us on the head and makes us
5:49
feel great about ourselves, anybody
5:51
can hear a message on forgiveness. Anybody
5:54
can hear a message on God's mercy, on God's
5:56
grace, anybody can hear a message about
5:58
how much God loves you.
5:59
And I'm not downplaying that. I
6:02
teach on that all the time, and it is some of the most powerful
6:04
things that we can teach. But you can't
6:06
just have that. You
6:09
got to have the other side of it too. We
6:11
need the whole counsel of
6:14
the Word of God.
6:16
And let me say again, when you know
6:18
who you are in Christ,
6:21
being corrected by the Holy Spirit is something
6:23
you appreciate. It's
6:25
not something that makes you feel bad about yourself.
6:28
And let me tell you, the Holy Spirit corrects me on
6:30
a regular basis about different things here
6:32
and there. And I have learned
6:34
finally to say, thank
6:36
you that you love me enough that
6:38
you will not leave me in the mess that I'm
6:41
in, but you will keep working
6:43
with me
6:43
until Jesus comes back. Amen.
6:47
Now, chapter five,
6:52
just before I get into it, I want
6:54
to read a couple of scriptures to you. Timothy
6:57
four, three and four. Okay.
7:00
I want you to listen to this because we're living in these times
7:02
right now for the time is coming when people
7:05
will not tolerate
7:07
and endure sound and wholesome
7:10
instruction, but having
7:12
ears itching for something pleasing
7:14
and gratifying. They
7:16
will gather to themselves one teacher
7:19
after another to a considerable
7:21
number chosen to satisfy
7:23
their own liking and to foster
7:25
the errors that they hold.
7:28
Isn't that pretty amazing? You know,
7:30
if you don't like what I'm saying on TV,
7:32
you can flip the channel and find somebody that you
7:34
like what they're saying. That's not hard to do, but
7:37
don't ever not listen to somebody because
7:39
what they say to you kind
7:42
of makes you a little bit uncomfortable
7:45
in your seat. In 2
7:48
Timothy 4.2, Paul told Timothy,
7:50
Harold and preach the word, keep
7:53
your sense of urgency. Stand
7:56
by.
7:57
Be at hand and ready.
7:58
the opportunity seems to be. favorable
8:00
or unfavorable, whether it's convenient or inconvenient,
8:03
whether it's welcome or unwelcome. Now listen
8:05
to this. You as a preacher
8:06
of the word are to show
8:09
people in what way their lives are wrong
8:13
and convince
8:15
them rebuking, correcting,
8:19
warning, urging, and
8:22
encouraging them. Not just encouraging
8:24
them,
8:26
but all of it. And can I
8:28
tell you the ministers
8:30
that you have who really love
8:32
you will take a chance
8:35
on you getting aggravated
8:37
at them. If that's what it takes to
8:39
get the truth through to you, that will make
8:42
the changes in your life that you need
8:44
that are going to bring you the things you say that you
8:46
want. And
8:51
And I feel so strongly about that.
8:54
It's not my job to make sure you don't get mad
8:56
at me.
8:57
It's my job to make sure when I stand before
8:59
God that
9:00
I've done what he wanted me to
9:03
do. And that's your job too. Amen.
9:07
So having said
9:09
that, let us press on. In
9:13
Ephesians five, the first
9:16
nine verses talk
9:19
about pursuing clean living.
9:23
Pursue means to crave
9:25
and to go after with all of
9:27
your strength.
9:29
If you want to be an excellent person,
9:30
you're going to have to really want
9:33
it bad because we live in a very
9:35
mediocre world
9:38
and people will fight you on it. If
9:40
you want to be a really honest person, it's
9:43
possible you could lose your job. Because
9:47
somebody out there is going to want you to help them cheat,
9:49
help them lie. They're going to want you to
9:51
do immoral things. But your
9:53
responsibility is first and foremost
9:56
to God. It's not to them. And
9:59
if you do watch.
9:59
right. Listen to me. God will get you a
10:02
better job than the one that you're
10:04
being threatened to lose.
10:10
If you want to get out in the world that we live in today and serve
10:13
God, I might as well tell you it's going to cost
10:15
you something.
10:18
But here's the thing. Romans 14 12 says, every
10:21
man will stand before God and given account of his
10:23
life. Every man. And
10:26
I don't know about But that brings the reverential
10:28
fear and awe to my life This
10:31
is going to be over Things
10:33
are not gonna stay the way they are here forever Everybody
10:37
gets old
10:38
Everybody dies. There's nobody that can get
10:40
away from that and
10:42
I know you don't think much about it when you're 15 or 20 or even 30 But
10:46
let me tell you I've been thinking about it a whole lot more lately.
10:48
I Mean
10:50
I'm serious I had this eye-opening
10:53
revelation a few years ago that
10:55
I've already lived a good
10:58
two-thirds of my life and
11:00
I don't have any time to mess around and
11:02
Let me tell you something a lot of you don't either and
11:05
The day is gonna come and we're gonna all stand before
11:08
God and give an account of our lives And I
11:10
am spending my time now getting ready
11:13
so I don't have to be ashamed then
11:14
Amen
11:18
Matter
11:20
of fact, I love the scriptures and I became very
11:23
aware of them last year. There are several places
11:25
in the Bible where Paul talks to people
11:27
about their behavior and he follows it
11:29
up with this statement, for the Lord is near.
11:32
For the Lord is near. So can I just say to you
11:34
tonight, it's time to behave
11:37
a lot better because Jesus is coming
11:39
back soon.
11:44
I think I'll say it to this group over here. I
11:50
mean, think about that. Think
11:52
about that. It's time to
11:55
make those decisions that you know
11:57
you need to make, but you keep putting
11:59
all
13:45
that
14:00
still don't know Jesus. Together
14:03
we can do so much more than what we can do
14:05
by ourselves. So please become a brand
