Hello, and thanks for checking in and listening to Just Because Art. I'm your host, Everett - a professional historian and working artist and creative person who is exploring my favorite thing in the world - art and creativity. This podcast is about an everyday creative person exploring art and creativity from their studio... And yep, you guessed it, I can't go outside right now - none of us can. So, I am bringing interesting friends and people to me - and  by extension hopefully to you. I think we can all use something uplifting, like art and creativity right now. It's what gets me through the day - every day of my life. So, without further adieu - break out your box of crayons and coloring book, or your watercolors - and let's get this show on the road... The podcast features chats with creative people from all sorts of fields, on a variety of subjects and issues around art and creativity. The plan is that the theme of each show will at least start with an idea or concept important in creative endeavors, but it's my hope that we get into the weeds and back out again, as often as possible. I mean, it's not as much fun if we just stick a script, is it? After all, art isn't anything predictable... I mean just take a look around you. Art isn't just in museums and galleries... Art and design is everywhere and in almost everything that we experience in our lives... It's in building design, the media you watch and listen to, the clothes you wear, the cars you drive, and even coffee cup and soup can labels. Well, okay, the soup cans labels are also in museums, too... Nevertheless, one of the most wonderful things about art is that it allows for endless, passionate, exploration, conversation and debate that opens a window into ourselves and others today - what we think and what we feel... Not only that, it gives us a window into those thoughts and feelings for as long as humans have existed on Earth. You only have to think about something like the cave paintings in Lascaux, in France or the walls of Egyptian tombs to start to understand people and cultures distant, and yet somehow connected, to our own. As an historian, that thought has always interested and excited me. The creative arts have also long been a tool that's helped us think about and give us glimpses into, our future and what potentially lies ahead... think about H.G. Wells or Issac Asimov... or even Star Trek or Star Wars. There are so  many interesting subjects to enjoy by just dipping the tip of your toe into some of that creative energy.
