What's up World? Welcome back to another episode of Just Grow it the podcast.
0:12
I'm your host, Big City Gardner. And today it's time for our April checklist.
0:17
Ok. We already talked about what to plant in the month of April.
0:21
Now, let's talk about some things we need to be doing in our garden this month.
0:26
And unfortunately, this is kind of, this is for zone nine.
0:29
But if you happen to live anywhere else,
0:32
you will still need to do these tasks,
0:34
but it just may not be in the month of April.
0:37
So the information is still valid.
0:40
Apply it to yourself when you enter about that second month of spring.
0:45
Let's get to it. The first thing we need to make sure that we are watering sufficiently and efficiently.
0:52
See what I did there. We need to make sure that any of the fruit trees or shade trees that we planted last month that were giving them sufficient amount of water.
1:02
Now, to water efficiently, you need to make sure that you are watering deeply.
1:07
Ok. So get a soaker hose,
1:09
get a drip irrigation system and set it right there around the root zone number two.
1:14
We need to keep an eye out for pest as it starts to warm up outside.
1:18
That means that our garden pests are gonna be out.
1:20
So we need to make sure that we have our eyes open.
1:22
Any time we're out in the garden, be ready to apply neem oil,
1:26
be ready to apply BT spray or anything like that.
1:29
We just need to make sure that we're keeping an eye out for the pest.
1:32
Number three, we need to make sure that we're cleaning up any loose branches,
1:37
any loose leaves that are in our garden or gardening space.
1:41
We're gonna go ahead rake them, collect them,
1:44
dump them into our compost bin or just move them off to the side until it's time to add them to the compost bin or use them as a mulch.
1:53
Next, it's time to start pruning.
1:55
It's time to start pruning everything that has already flowered early in the spring that could include things like even as or wisteria.
2:04
Next, we need to make sure that we are fertilizing and mulching as it starts to warm up outside.
2:09
We need to make sure that we are doing everything to ensure that our plants retain the moisture that we give them.
2:16
So apply a two inch layer of mulch to the top of your garden beds all around your trees anywhere like that.
2:23
Also, in my opinion, it's time to start fertilizing.
2:27
April 1st is usually when I fertilize my garden for the first time.
2:31
It's also when I like to fertilize my fruit trees and things like that planting.
2:36
Well, we already talked about what you can plant in April.
2:39
So just make sure that you're outside and active in your garden and following the planting schedule and last,
2:45
but not least you're gonna start seeing a lot of birds around.
2:49
So make sure you keep water in the bird baths and you keep your bird feeders filled with bird seed.
2:54
If you have squirrels taking all your bird seed,
2:57
go ahead and put a little cayenne pepper in there.
2:59
I guarantee you they won't come back. All right,
3:01
that's a list of things that we should be doing out in our garden.
3:04
Come April or your second month of spring.
3:08
As always, if you found this informative,
3:10

3:31

3:34
So I'm going, you guys have a great day and don't forget,
3:38
just grow it
