In all of human history, humans have always been happier free and safe. Not that you can’t have both, but given the choice between a dangerous free environment, or a safe repressive one, happiness comes with free choice. They’d choose safety, yet be miserable and riddled with mental health problems. Freedom and insanity are correlated, not safety.
