Marcya and Jordan begin the discussion with Eva Longoria's comments on Latina women being "the real heroines of the election." These comments were not only disrespectful, but were also wrong in that 90% of black women voted for Biden/Harris compared to 69% of Latina women (Washington Post). Eva's comments were wrong, but what was the real purpose of them? Were they a rallying cry for Latina voting participation, or a pitch of their importance or loyalty to the Democratic party? Second was the Dave Chappelle monologue on SNL (Saturday Night Live) where he spoke on the gender pay gap, Trump's behavior regarding the coronavirus, and the lack of financial compensation he received during the recent acquisition of the Chappelle show by Netflix. Is comedy, or SNL the appropriate setting to address social issues, or should they be voiced elsewhere? Last was a discussion of the "American Dream" and if the black community fits into that picture, and if so, how? Please listen, share, and comment.
