Trevor is the lead NFL Draft Analyst at

1:41

Exchange. He's going to break down how each

1:43

player works into the Chief's scheme and what

1:46

attributes they bring to K-C. Before we dive

1:48

in, make sure you like and subscribe right

1:50

here on the KCSN YouTube channel. And

1:52

let's get into it. All right, Trevor, let's

1:54

dive right into it. Brett Veach, the money

1:57

magician getting it done. In Veach, we trust

1:59

is what everyone. here in Chief's Kingdom says

2:02

he goes you know trades up for the

2:04

first one and make statement with the bills

2:06

of all people how that tree went down

2:08

that's latter here nor there but gets it

2:10

pick 28 Xavier worthy everyone knows him because

2:12

fastest 40 time in NFL history you know

2:14

a lot of us were at the combine

2:17

got to witness that how does

2:19

this guy outside of that speed but really

2:21

just overall fit into the arsenal

2:24

that Patrick Mahomes will now have another

2:26

offensive weapon I mean the Chiefs think

2:28

stack with this guy right yeah so going up

2:30

to get Xavier worthy getting your guy and also

2:32

trading with the bill so a little twist of

2:34

the knife there maybe from Brett V to the

2:36

team that has been it feels like the

2:39

Chiefs are the bills playoff nemesis so I'm surprised this

2:41

deal even got done but hey okay so worthy he's

2:43

a member of the Kansas City Chiefs and I think

2:45

it's perfect I really do when you look at this

2:48

team and kind of where they needed more consistent success

2:50

it is throwing deep down the field I mean there

2:52

are a handful of plays that we could look at

2:54

last season even during their playoff round where you go

2:56

uh it either hit a wide receiver's hands or it

2:58

was just a sort of out of reach okay maybe

3:01

they didn't quite have the chemistry they needed to deep

3:03

down the field which is difficult I'm not gonna act

3:05

like it's something simple or easy but worthy is somebody

3:07

who has a lot of experience doing that

3:10

he got the ball a lot at Texas as

3:12

a screen and quick hit type of a player

3:14

to try to allow him to use that athletic

3:17

or an electric speed after the catch but

3:19

also deep down the field we saw that

3:21

as well every time that when Ewers was

3:23

looking deep at Texas it felt like it

3:25

was Xavier Worthy's way so when you look

3:27

at the players that they have right now

3:29

on the team tight ends included it's a

3:31

lot of like intermediate and yards after catch

3:34

types of players right now but in order

3:36

to truly maximize the value there you need

3:38

to open it up and you need to keep those

3:40

safeties honest you need to keep these teams in too high

3:42

and back to safeties up so they cannot creep and those

3:44

robber rolls over the middle of the field when

3:47

you have a consistent deep threat it just opens

3:49

everything up so I do think that the worthy

3:51

beyond just saying oh Patrick Mahomes and a fast

3:53

guy like I really do think that it's the

3:55

combination of what they already have to open things

3:58

up with adding worthy of course you You

4:00

know they go, they trade up again just

4:02

a little bit with the 49ers able to

4:04

grab Kingsley Suo-Mataia. The Chiefs desperately needed a

4:06

left tackle. No it doesn't always

4:08

translate to this guy being the start of the

4:11

first year. Is this the Chiefs answer or just

4:13

maybe bolstering up that offensive line? I think

4:15

you'd be a long term answer right? I'd be

4:17

a little bit worried about him starting year one

4:19

and maybe there's a reality where he does perform

4:21

well in minicamp and training camp and in the

4:23

preseason to where they just go hey this guy's

4:25

playing too well we gotta start him. But I

4:27

like the fact that they at least have players

4:29

on the roster right now to where you

4:32

can play them at left and right tackle

4:34

and Suo-Mataia does not have to start right

4:36

away because he was one of those prospects

4:38

that I looked at. Him and Tyler Guiding

4:40

from Oklahoma were very similar. The technique just

4:42

isn't quite there for them yet. Both of

4:44

those guys but Kingsley specifically he's kind of

4:46

like a shiver right now. More of a

4:48

he just when guys get into him he

4:50

can mirror very well. He's got a big

4:52

enough body his full work is good enough

4:54

but when the guys kind of come into

4:57

his chest he's just trying to shove him.

4:59

He's not getting those hands inside underneath the

5:01

shoulder pads and just locking in and

5:03

making sure that he's got those blocks

5:05

solidified for a long period of time.

5:07

Really locking these guys up and not allowing them

5:09

to continue the play that they want to. He's kind

5:11

of just trying to shove them as far as possible

5:13

and he got better at that as the season went

5:15

on but it just doesn't work at the NFL level.

5:18

You get so many good pass versus that if that

5:20

is the way that you were trying to block you

5:22

got guys that'll swipe those hands away immediately. That's

5:24

never a good thing. I think

5:26

the Sua Montaia has starting tackle potential. I

5:28

mean you like the fact that they don't

5:31

have to start him right away. So good pick good

5:33

value pick at the end of the second round but

5:35

maybe not somebody that you want to start right away

5:37

for this. Another guy that

5:40

they do not have to start right away and hopefully

5:42

not for another two years now that the Kelsey news

5:44

has come out. It's going to be Jared Wiley out

5:46

of TCU the tight end. Is this

5:48

a guy who you could potentially see have a

5:50

similar skill set to Travis Kelsey one day down

5:52

the road. Now replacing Kelsey that's going to be

5:55

too damn hard to do for pretty much anyone.

5:57

But do you see in being someone who can

5:59

maybe fill those shoes in the years to come

6:01

when making up that production. They are similar and

6:03

I really like this pick one because I really

6:05

liked Jerry Wiley just as a prospect overall. I

6:07

think he's a really well-rounded athlete. He can do

6:09

a lot of stuff for you at the tight

6:12

end position, but also you look at this thing

6:14

long-term. I mean Noah Gray's in the last year

6:16

of his contract, Irv Smith, he said a one-year

6:18

contract with this team even for as soon as

6:20

2025 season. He

6:23

could be a situation where you know Kelsey's maybe

6:25

in the last year that he's playing with the

6:27

team and Wiley's in his second year and really

6:29

you just get that smooth transition. So you get

6:32

to continue to have depth in the tight end

6:34

room. Keep good athletes there which

6:36

we know that Andy Reid and the rest of

6:38

this offense love is to use and it's a

6:40

smooth transition into next year's free agency knowing that

6:43

you've got two guys who you're probably going to

6:45

depend on this year who maybe you

6:47

don't have the calf flexibility to bring both of them

6:49

back or heck maybe even either of them back. You

6:51

get a tight end that you like on a controlled

6:54

rookie contract that could potentially

6:57

be that tight end for you

6:59

long-term. So the Wiley pick was a really good

7:01

one for me as well. I think that this

7:03

was a good value. Jaden Hicks, safety,

7:05

now they lose a little serious the

7:07

quarterback then bolstering up the secondary

7:09

maybe not necessarily a replacement. How do you see

7:12

this guy sitting in out of Washington today? Look

7:14

Jaden Hicks I think was a really good addition

7:16

for this team specifically because of what the Chiefs

7:19

like to do and that is stay multiple at

7:21

the safety spots. You look at

7:23

a long-term view okay Reid is in the

7:25

last year of his deal as well. So

7:27

for the short term this upcoming year you

7:29

have a three-man rotation with Cook and Reid

7:31

and now Hicks as well who gets to

7:33

be in that. You're losing Mike Edwards. We

7:35

know that they've liked that three safety rotation

7:37

in the past so you get to continue

7:39

to have a good talented safety who gets

7:42

to learn not start right away but also

7:44

be a contributing player and then again long-term if

7:46

Reid is pricing himself out of what you could

7:48

do to bring him back well then next year

7:50

you're not kind of just like you

7:52

know it just is just searching for any answer or

7:55

desperate to sign a safety you already have one on

7:57

the field and so this this

7:59

whole draft. to me for Kansas City was

8:01

a great setup for the future. And Hicks was

8:03

another one of those players who brings you a

8:05

lot of good versatility. He's a nice downhill player.

8:07

He'll tackle for you. He'll be good in those

8:09

robber rolls over the middle of the field. And

8:12

so that to me is a really nice rotational

8:14

player that you can get in who has some

8:16

long-term value depending on what happens in free agency

8:18

next year. All right. Well another

8:20

position that keeps getting more depth. Also the

8:22

offensive line. They go back to that with

8:24

their fifth round pick Hunter Norzad out of

8:26

Penn State. How do you see him fitting

8:28

into Kansas City right now? At least

8:30

Hunter Norzad is one of those players

8:33

to me that can play multiple spots

8:35

along the interior offensive line. The Chiefs

8:37

have one of the best interior offensive

8:40

lines in the NFL. But this

8:42

is a player who if one of these guys were

8:45

to go down, you're hoping for not long-term just a

8:47

little bit. He might be able to come in and

8:49

play for you. I was super impressed by Hunter Norzad

8:51

from what I saw at the Shrine Bowl in Dallas.

8:54

He was one of the standout

8:56

players that I thought for that week. And so

8:58

he's somebody who yes, he played center at Penn

9:00

State. Yes, that's where he is most comfortable. But

9:02

I think that he can play also at guard

9:04

if they need him to play there in a

9:06

pinch. Let's go on to a guy Kamal Haddon. How

9:09

do you see him fitting into the defense? This is a

9:11

guy who starts in 2020. Size speed

9:13

fluidity. Like that's the ideal part. That's why he

9:15

just you know, there are so many programs over

9:17

the last couple of years. They just would not

9:19

give up on this guy. And I think that's

9:21

exactly what the Chiefs see. They're drafting him in

9:23

the third round because he doesn't have a ton

9:26

of sustained success at the college. Level, but

9:28

like you mentioned like that last year was

9:30

really good for him. So you bet on

9:32

that you have seen that and I think

9:35

that we look at this Chiefs cornerback room.

9:37

Obviously, you're facing a luxurious need. You're hoping

9:39

to allow Trent McDuffie to kind of

9:41

step up and get even more responsibility there. But

9:43

having a player that can move as well as

9:45

he does at his size when he's fully healthy.

9:48

I mean you take chances on guys like that

9:50

in the third. You know this guy

9:52

CJ Hanson coming out of Holy Cross. Was this

9:54

a guy that you thought okay? This makes sense

9:56

for an Andy Reid versatile offensive line. Honestly,

9:58

it's sevens around. pick that's kind of

10:01

just a depth player and these are guys that you

10:03

maybe like the character a little bit more than the

10:05

film honestly these are the players that are going to

10:07

you know hopefully be depth players for you

10:09

contribute on special teams again it's

10:12

more than likely that he's gonna be a practice

10:14

squad guy early on but you never know again

10:16

like there's a reason why they're getting drafted in

10:18

the seventh round but I believe that this was

10:21

more of a when you look at what Hanson

10:23

could be for this team I think

10:25

it's just more of a character and a culture fit

10:27

than anything that we can project an immediate starting world

10:30
