1:51

today

1:51

you guys, this case, this

1:54

is one that I had never heard of before

1:57

and was honestly quite shocked at that fact.

1:59

I feel.

1:59

like it definitely is a lesser

2:02

known case. However, the brutality

2:04

and the plot twist in this case

2:06

is one that is definitely going

2:09

to shock you. So I am very interested

2:11

to hear what you guys have to say about this

2:13

one today. It is completely tragic.

2:16

It is a horrifying case. And

2:18

as you can tell, we are talking about the

2:20

solved murder of Jolene

2:23

Cummings. So with that being said,

2:25

let's jump right on into it. Jolene

2:28

Cummings was born on May 13, 1984 to

2:32

her mother Ann Johnson. Growing

2:35

up, Jolene lived with her mom and her

2:37

stepfather in Ferdina Beach,

2:39

Florida. Ferdina Beach is

2:41

specifically located on Amelia Island

2:44

in the northeastern corner of Florida.

2:47

It is a small beach town where

2:49

everyone knows everyone. The

2:51

three of them were very close. Jolene,

2:54

her mom and her stepfather. They

2:56

had a tight knit relationship. They were always

2:58

having dinner parties, going to events together.

3:01

They definitely were a close family.

3:03

Alongside Jolene's family,

3:06

she also had a large group of friends as

3:08

well. She was someone that everyone

3:10

liked and it was said that she drew

3:13

people in. Jolene was

3:15

a small town girl who had dreams

3:17

of opening up her own hair salon

3:20

one day. So it wasn't a surprise

3:22

to anyone when right after graduating

3:24

high school, she enrolled in cosmetology

3:27

school out of state. Jolene

3:30

had left Ferdina Beach for several

3:32

years. She was off in cosmetology

3:34

school. She was gaining knowledge. She

3:36

was living life. And it was during

3:39

her time that she was away that

3:41

she had actually gotten married and had

3:43

her first child, a daughter.

3:46

Now this marriage between Jolene and her first

3:49

husband did not last long. And

3:51

after the divorce, it left Jolene

3:53

as a single mother. And that is

3:55

when she decided to go back to her

3:58

roots, to go back to where her support. system

4:00

was and she moved back to Fernandina

4:02

Beach with her daughter. Once she

4:05

arrived back, Jolene began working

4:07

at a hair salon called Tangles.

4:10

Now according to her coworkers, Jolene

4:12

was the light of the salon. Not

4:15

only was she incredibly talented and

4:17

knowledgeable, it was said that her clientele

4:20

list was incredibly long. She

4:22

was always slammed. She was always booked

4:24

and busy. So she was very, very talented,

4:27

but alongside that, her character was

4:29

really praised as well. Like

4:31

I said, she was described as the light of the salon.

4:34

She was kind to everyone and

4:37

Tangles in particular was a very family

4:39

friendly business. The employees who worked

4:41

at Tangles had worked there for years and

4:43

years and years. It wasn't a place that had

4:45

a high turnover rate. This was somewhere where

4:48

you went and you stayed and you really

4:50

created a bond with your

4:52

coworkers. They would do luncheons

4:54

together. They would go to different events

4:57

together. They would host dinners together.

4:59

This was definitely a tight knit workplace.

5:02

Now like I said, Jolene was extremely

5:05

talented in her career as being

5:07

a hairdresser. And while she did have

5:10

the dreams of becoming a salon owner

5:12

one day, working at Tangles was

5:14

that stepping stone. Now in

5:16

the midst of Jolene's career

5:18

success, she had met a man named

5:21

Jason Cummings. Now as you

5:23

can probably tell by the similar last

5:25

name, Jolene and Jason had

5:27

gotten married after having their first

5:30

son together in 2013 and then they welcomed

5:32

their second son in So

5:38

now collectively they had three

5:40

children because like I mentioned, Jolene

5:42

did have a daughter from a previous marriage

5:45

and things in Jolene's life were really starting

5:48

to finally fall into place. She

5:50

was thriving in her business. She

5:52

had married Jason. She had

5:54

her kids. And when it came to family

5:57

and especially her kids, Jolene

5:59

was... an incredibly devoted

6:02

mother. She loved her kids more than

6:04

anything in the world. She always loved

6:07

spending time with them, playing with them, going

6:09

on adventures with them. She was a very

6:11

hands-on mom and she

6:13

loved her children. Now something to

6:16

note about Jolene is that her friends had

6:18

said that it had been a pattern

6:20

for her to not necessarily

6:22

pick the best men to

6:24

date. Even though Jolene is described

6:27

as charismatic and magnetic

6:29

and funny and kind and all of the

6:31

things that you would want in a partner, she

6:34

would always tend to gravitate towards men

6:36

who really brought her down

6:38

in life, who her friends thought didn't

6:40

deserve her, and who just quite

6:43

simply were not good for

6:45

her. Now because of this,

6:47

it wasn't a huge surprise to her

6:49

friends when Jolene's marriage

6:52

with Jason began to go south. However,

6:54

regardless of the troubles that they were having,

6:57

Jolene seemed to always want to try and fix

6:59

things. She was always looking for the solution

7:01

and she always wanted to make

7:04

things work, especially for the sake

7:06

of her family and her children.

7:08

Even if Jason's effort in that wasn't as

7:11

reciprocated, Jolene would constantly

7:13

try and make their marriage

7:15

better and make their marriage work. However,

7:18

ultimately after countless

7:20

years of just trying to make things

7:22

work, the two officially ended

7:25

their marriage in 2017. Now after the separation, Jolene

7:30

did whatever she could to try and make

7:32

this new transition, this new chapter of

7:35

her life and her kids life, move

7:37

as seamlessly as possible. Jason

7:40

still had visitation with his children, however

7:42

they primarily remained in Jolene's

7:44

care. And after some time,

7:47

after Jolene had gotten situated,

7:49

after it seemed like the kids had gotten

7:51

more situated with their new

7:54

normal, so to speak, Jolene

7:56

did start to see someone new.

7:59

Now Jolene Jolene, who was typically

8:01

private when it came to her dating

8:03

life, because again, she didn't have

8:06

the best track record. She

8:08

knew that her friend's family were

8:10

more than likely not going to like the person

8:12

that she was dating. Even though she was

8:15

typically very private, this

8:17

new person, this new man in Jolene's

8:19

life, Jolene was extremely

8:22

private about. She didn't want anyone

8:25

to know anything about this man. And

8:27

other than really just saying that she was seeing

8:29

someone else, that was the extent

8:31

of it. She wouldn't give up any more information.

8:34

Now even though her friends did have their

8:36

reservations about Jolene's decision

8:39

making when it came to her dating life,

8:41

it ultimately was her dating life.

8:44

And to see Jolene be giddy

8:46

and excited about the potential of a new relationship

8:49

again, especially after she had just

8:51

gone through a very tumultuous divorce

8:54

and separation, it made them happy

8:56

for their friend. They wanted Jolene

8:58

to be happy. So seeing her be happy,

9:01

seeing her get back into the swing of things, back

9:03

on her feet, they were very happy for

9:05

her, which is why no one could believe it

9:07

on one day in May 2018 when Jolene

9:10

vanished.

11:26

So this brings us to May 14th of 2018, and on this

11:28

day, Jolene's mom, Anne, called police

11:34

to tell them that Jolene was

11:36

missing. She went on to explain

11:39

that the last time that anyone had seen

11:41

or heard from her daughter was two days

11:43

prior on May 12th. Jolene

11:46

was scheduled to pick up her sons from Jason's

11:48

house on May 13th, which coincidentally

11:51

enough was Jolene's birthday,

11:53

and it was also Mother's Day. So

11:56

these are two very important and monumental holidays

11:59

that Jolene was very, very excited

12:01

to spend with her kids, which was

12:03

why when Jolene never showed up, Jason

12:06

called Anne to ask if

12:08

she knew where Jolene was. Now

12:12

immediately, Anne knew that something was wrong.

12:15

She would never miss picking up her kids

12:17

from Jason's. She was always very punctual.

12:19

She was always on time. And she

12:21

was so excited to spend this day

12:24

with her kids. So for her to not show up

12:26

was extremely out of character for

12:28

her. Now, luckily when police

12:31

did take down the report, they immediately

12:33

began this investigation. They took this

12:35

case very seriously from the get-go. I

12:37

know there's cases that we cover where it

12:39

takes a while for police

12:41

to actually believe that there was foul

12:43

play involved or believe that this is an actual

12:46

missing persons case. However, with

12:48

Jolene's case, police definitely took the

12:50

initiative here and began their investigation

12:53

right away. When beginning their investigation,

12:55

they learned that the last place that Jolene

12:57

was seen was at the Tangles Salon

13:00

where she worked. Now, according to

13:02

the owner, Jolene worked that

13:05

day on May 12th with several

13:07

coworkers. One being a woman

13:09

named Anne who had worked at the

13:12

salon for 10 years and

13:14

then another newer employee

13:17

named Jennifer Seibert. Now,

13:19

Jennifer had only been working at the salon

13:21

for several months at that point. So

13:23

she definitely was a new hire, but

13:26

it was Jolene and Jennifer that closed

13:28

the salon that day. So even though

13:31

they did have that third coworker with them

13:33

during the day, the two people that

13:35

were scheduled to actually close the salon

13:38

were Jolene and Jennifer.

13:40

Now, the two of them closed at the salon on

13:43

May 12th at approximately 5 p.m. Now,

13:46

police did try and get a hold of the security

13:48

cameras at the salon. That way they could

13:50

see Jolene leaving and see

13:53

which direction she drove in. However,

13:55

that is when they learned that the security cameras

13:57

at Tangles unfortunately did not. work.

14:01

Now police do know that Jolene's

14:03

car was not in the parking

14:05

lot when they initially went to Tangles.

14:08

So that told them that she had to have

14:10

left the salon at some point. She

14:13

had to have driven away. Now police

14:15

also couldn't ping her phone because it had

14:18

either run out of battery or it had been

14:20

turned off. Now they checked

14:22

bank accounts and social media accounts to

14:24

see if there was any activity on either of

14:26

those from Jolene's end. However,

14:29

there was none. Now at this point, the

14:31

first person that police wanted to talk to was

14:33

Jennifer. Jennifer closed the salon

14:36

with Jolene that night and they

14:38

wanted to know if Jolene had

14:40

mentioned anything about any plans

14:42

that she had later in that evening or if

14:44

she told Jennifer where she was going to be going.

14:47

And really their hope was that Jennifer could just help

14:50

paint a timeline for them. However,

14:53

when police first got on the phone with

14:55

Jennifer, Jennifer was very

14:57

quick to shut them down in

15:00

any capacity. She told them

15:02

that she could not talk to police

15:04

and she could not be involved in

15:07

any part of the investigation

15:10

because Jennifer had an ex-boyfriend

15:13

who was extremely tech savvy

15:16

and she described him as being this stalker

15:18

who she was on the run from. She didn't want to

15:20

be caught by this crazy ex-boyfriend

15:23

that she had and she was worried

15:25

if she cooperated with police and

15:27

you know helped them in this investigation. Her

15:30

name would be on some sort of document or some

15:32

sort of record that her ex-boyfriend would be able

15:34

to get a hold of and in turn

15:36

be able to track her down and find where she

15:39

was. Now when police heard this,

15:42

they thought just as I'm sure you are thinking

15:44

that's really strange. That is a very

15:46

strange thing to say. It didn't really make

15:49

a lot of sense and police reiterated

15:51

to Jennifer that all they wanted to

15:53

know was whether or not Jolene

15:55

discussed any upcoming plans

15:58

if she said she was going anywhere after work.

16:00

However, Jennifer went on to explain that her and Jolene

16:03

were not very close. They did not chit

16:05

chat at work. However, she did say

16:08

that Jolene was acting normal

16:10

for the most part and did

16:12

not mention any plans later that night.

16:14

But Jennifer also reiterated to

16:17

police that she did not want

16:19

to be involved any further in this. Now

16:22

at this point, police wanted to check

16:25

Jennifer's home. They wanted to do a

16:27

wellness check and this was on May

16:29

14th. So the same day that the missing person's

16:32

report was filed. They went over

16:34

to Jennifer's house and they definitely

16:37

could see upon first entering that

16:39

there had been some sort of disturbance.

16:42

There were broken pieces of furniture.

16:45

There were cabinet doors hanging off the cabinets.

16:48

There were holes in the doors, holes in the walls.

16:50

However, police soon learned that there

16:52

had been some officers called out to

16:55

Jolene's home several different

16:57

times for domestic disputes.

17:00

And the police who responded to those calls

17:03

told detectives that the way

17:05

that they discovered Jolene's home,

17:08

the way that the detectives discovered it, that

17:10

was how it normally was.

17:12

So the broken cabinets, the holes in the doors,

17:15

that had all been there for quite some time.

17:18

And so it more than likely was not

17:20

a result of this particular

17:22

investigation and Jolene's disappearance.

17:25

Now it probably will not shock you when

17:28

I tell you that the next person that

17:30

police really wanted to speak

17:32

to in this investigation was

17:34

Jason Cummings. Not only

17:37

were Jason and Jolene in the middle of

17:39

finalizing their divorce, but they also

17:41

had not settled on a custody agreement,

17:44

which police did see as a very possible

17:47

motive. Now police met with Jason

17:49

in person after he agreed to come down to

17:51

the sheriff's office. During the

17:53

interview, Jason admits that even though

17:56

him and Jolene had arguments, they

17:58

never escalated to any physical.

18:01

Jason told police that he was with

18:03

his friends during the weekend of Jolene's

18:05

disappearance and he also gave

18:07

police permission to search through his

18:10

cell phone and his car and

18:12

during the search police claimed that they found

18:14

nothing that would make them believe that Jason

18:16

was responsible for Jolene's disappearance.

18:19

Now during the interview, during

18:22

the interview between Jason and authorities,

18:25

Jason asked police a question

18:27

as well after he had been questioned for

18:29

quite some time. He told them

18:31

that he had a question.

18:34

He said that he wanted to know

18:36

more information about the guy

18:39

that Jolene had recently started dating.

18:42

Jason went on to say that he was

18:44

getting several text messages from friends

18:48

saying that whoever this guy was,

18:51

he was quote-unquote bad

18:53

news. So Jason wanted to know

18:56

if there was any development, if police

18:58

had spoken to this man and wanted

19:00

to know more information about him.

19:03

Now police told Jason that they hadn't been

19:05

able to locate this man at that very

19:07

moment, however they were tracking him down

19:10

to conduct a proper interview with

19:12

him. Now when it came to Jason

19:14

Cummings' alibi and his

19:17

timeline of events, his story, police

19:19

did ultimately confirm his alibi

19:22

and because of that they now needed to move

19:24

on in their investigation. Now

19:27

who is this mystery man

19:30

that Jolene had been dating? Well

19:33

that would be a man named Jason

19:36

G. Yes Jolene

19:38

was dating another Jason. Now

19:40

police had looked in to the previous

19:43

domestic disturbance calls that

19:45

had occurred while Jolene was dating

19:47

Jason G and they found that on

19:49

May 9th, so just several days prior

19:52

to Jolene being missing, Jason

19:54

G and Jolene had the

19:56

police called on them for a domestic

19:58

disturbance. And as a result of

20:01

this disturbance, Jason G had gotten

20:03

really angry. He started breaking all

20:05

of the cabinets. That's why the cabinet doors

20:07

were hanging off when detectives arrived to

20:09

the home. Now, it should be noted that

20:11

when police responded to the call on

20:13

the ninth, there was no physical

20:15

violence reported and neither

20:17

of them were injured. And both of them just

20:20

asked police to go away. Jolene

20:22

did not want to file any charges against

20:25

Jason. And ultimately, police

20:27

left the scene. Now,

20:29

police called Jason G several

20:32

times after Jolene's disappearance.

20:35

However, every time that they would get on the phone with him,

20:37

he would answer the phone and when they would introduce

20:39

themselves, he would immediately

20:42

hang up. They also went to

20:44

his house and each time they would go to his

20:46

house, he conveniently would not

20:49

be there. Now, this was obviously

20:51

not a great look for Jason G, and

20:53

it definitely made police grow to be more

20:55

suspicious. However, they

20:58

soon learned why Jason

21:00

could be avoiding them. After

21:02

looking into his record, police discovered

21:05

that Jason G had an active warrant

21:07

out for his arrest for probation

21:10

violation. So they thought it was

21:12

possible that he didn't want to speak to authorities

21:14

because he knew that he had a warrant

21:17

out for his arrest. Now, police's

21:19

theory that Jason G was avoiding

21:21

them and hiding from them was

21:24

ultimately confirmed when they tracked him down

21:26

in Hilliard, Florida at a relative's

21:28

house. And when police arrived to

21:31

the residence, Jason G was actually

21:33

found hiding underneath a pile

21:35

of boxes in the

21:38

relative's bedroom. Now, once

21:40

police found him, Jason G was arrested

21:42

for that active warrant that he had for his

21:45

arrest and he was brought down to

21:47

the police station to have a proper

21:49

interview. Now, when he sat down

21:52

with authorities, Jason G told police

21:54

that he did know that Jolene

21:57

was missing. He went on

21:59

to tell the... story of how him and

22:01

Jolene had initially met. He

22:03

claimed that they met at a party

22:05

a little over a year prior that Jolene

22:08

was throwing. Now Jason

22:10

claimed that the last time that

22:12

he had seen Jolene was on the night

22:15

of the ninth. He claimed that the

22:17

disturbance and the argument that

22:19

ensued between them two was

22:22

after Jolene had accused Jason

22:24

of cheating on her. Now Jason claimed

22:26

that the day the Jolene went missing he was

22:28

at his cousin's house. However, him and

22:30

Jolene were texting all the way up

22:33

until about 4 p.m.

22:35

Now, weirdly enough, when police asked

22:38

Jason to go through his phone,

22:41

Jason went on to tell police that he

22:43

did not know where his cell phone was

22:45

and that he had lost it. He claimed

22:48

it was either at his mom's house or his

22:50

cousin's house and he said that

22:52

he took the battery out of it because

22:55

he just simply wasn't using

22:57

it. So it was a mix of he

23:00

lost it, he didn't know where it was, but

23:02

also he didn't want to know where it was,

23:04

he wasn't worried about it because

23:06

he just didn't really want to

23:09

use it. Now as you can imagine police

23:11

did have some frustration with

23:14

this. However, Jason went on to explain

23:16

that the main reason that he

23:18

did not want anyone to find his cell

23:21

phone was because he did not want to be tracked

23:23

or have his phone pinged because of

23:25

his probation violation,

23:27

not because of anything that had to do with the

23:29

case. Jason G ultimately and

23:32

adamantly denied having anything to do

23:34

with Jolene's disappearance.

23:37

Now they did look into his alibi

23:39

and it did check out. He was with his

23:41

cousins during the time that Jolene

23:43

went missing, so ultimately he

23:46

was cleared as a potential suspect as well.

23:49

Now at this point police in their

23:51

mind had just eliminated the two

23:54

main and kind of obvious

23:57

choices when looking at potential persons

23:59

of interest, looking at the case. up potential suspects.

24:01

Whenever we are talking about a case, specifically

24:04

a missing persons case, the

24:06

first person that police always look at

24:09

is the spouse. It's the boyfriend,

24:11

the girlfriend, the partner, or it is

24:13

the ex-boyfriend, girlfriend,

24:16

husband, wife. They always

24:18

look to those people first. And

24:21

so now with having both the ex-husband

24:23

and the current boyfriend out of the picture,

24:26

police decided

24:27

to work backwards.

26:59

At this point in the investigation, police

27:02

wanted to go back to the Tangles hair

27:04

salon, which was the last place that

27:06

Jolene was seen. So they go back

27:09

to Tangles and when they go there,

27:11

they then meet in person the

27:14

owner of the salon. Now while

27:16

police were speaking to the owner was actually

27:19

when Jennifer Seibert had walked into

27:21

the salon. Again, Jennifer

27:23

was the woman who closed the salon with

27:26

Jolene on May 12th. Now

27:28

when Jennifer arrived to the salon, the

27:31

owner attempted to introduce

27:33

Jennifer to the police. The owner

27:35

said that the police had some questions

27:38

for Jennifer because she was the

27:40

last known person to

27:42

see Jolene. However,

27:44

when Jennifer heard this, again,

27:47

she immediately went into defensive

27:49

mode. She told police she didn't

27:52

want anything to do with the investigation,

27:54

that she had told them all of

27:56

this already, but not only that, at

27:58

this meeting.

27:59

Jennifer told the salon owner

28:02

that she quit. The behavior

28:05

from Jennifer up until this point to police

28:07

had always been odd, however,

28:09

they weren't exactly sure how to

28:11

take it. Police know that there aren't necessarily

28:13

a lot of people who want to be involved

28:16

in law enforcement or investigations.

28:18

She explained that she had this crazy

28:20

ex-boyfriend who was trying to track her down,

28:23

so they didn't know what necessarily

28:25

was happening here. They didn't know if

28:27

it was, she quite simply just didn't

28:30

want to be involved or if this

28:32

was something a little more serious.

28:36

Now around this time is when police

28:38

receive a tip from someone

28:40

that really helps crack this

28:42

case open. Now, according

28:45

to the person who called in the tip, they

28:47

claimed to have seen Jolene's car

28:50

sitting in a Home Depot parking lot,

28:52

just about 2.3 miles away from the Tangle's salon.

28:58

Now police immediately drove over to the Home

29:00

Depot and found Jolene's

29:02

car. When searching the car,

29:05

they couldn't find anything that raised

29:07

suspicion. Now luckily,

29:09

even though the salon didn't have working

29:12

surveillance cameras, Home Depot

29:14

and the surrounding stores did. Now

29:17

police were able to pull footage from a nearby

29:20

bank that was across the street of

29:22

the Home Depot and saw that on

29:24

the early morning hours of May 13th at

29:27

approximately 1.17 a.m., Jolene's

29:30

car was seen driving in to

29:32

the Home Depot parking lot and

29:34

minutes later, you see a figure

29:37

exit the driver's side of the car.

29:40

Now this specific footage was too

29:43

grainy to make out who was

29:45

getting out of the car, but it

29:47

was a start. Now based on

29:49

the direction that the figure was walking in when

29:51

they got out of the car, police theorized

29:54

that they were walking to a nearby gas

29:56

station. Police then went to the

29:58

gas station their security

30:01

camera footage which was a crystal

30:04

clear video and in

30:06

the gas station footage police

30:08

see a woman walking into

30:11

the gas station wearing all

30:13

black her hair slicked back

30:15

and it didn't take long for police

30:18

to realize that the woman in

30:20

the video was Jennifer

30:23

Seibert. Now at this

30:25

point this really changes the trajectory

30:28

of the investigation because as I just mentioned

30:30

police didn't know if Jennifer's behavior

30:33

up until this point was simply because she

30:35

didn't like law enforcement and didn't want

30:37

to be involved or if there was something

30:39

more serious that was actually going

30:42

on. So at this point they returned back

30:44

to Tangles on May 16th

30:46

and now they're really treating the salon

30:49

as a potential crime scene. Now

30:51

luckily for police the salon had

30:53

actually been closed ever since

30:55

Jolene's disappearance and this was

30:57

very important because it meant

31:00

that nothing had been cleaned or

31:02

disturbed. Now while police

31:04

were at Tangles they decide

31:06

that they are going to use luminal testing

31:09

to see if there is any blood

31:11

evidence that was left behind in the salon.

31:14

Now if you don't know luminal

31:16

is a chemical that is used to show the evidence

31:18

of blood even after it's been wiped

31:21

away. Now when police put

31:23

down the luminal and shined the

31:25

light onto it they were shocked

31:28

to see the floors light up

31:30

blue indicating evidence

31:33

of blood. There was evidence of

31:35

blood all over Tangles.

31:38

It was on the floors, the salon chairs,

31:40

it was on the mop, it was everywhere

31:43

in the salon. Almost everything

31:46

had some sort of blood

31:48

evidence. At this point

31:51

police claimed that they knew two things.

31:53

First being they were working a very

31:56

brutal homicide investigation.

31:58

Some officer officers claimed that

32:00

this was the most brutal crime

32:03

scene that they had ever seen up

32:05

until this point. So that was

32:07

the first thing. And the second thing they

32:09

knew is now they needed

32:11

to find Jennifer Seibert.

32:14

So police collected all of the blood evidence

32:17

that they could and sent it off to the forensic

32:19

lab and while waiting for those results,

32:22

this is when they really were now

32:24

trying to track down Jennifer. They

32:27

were able to ping Jennifer's phone and see

32:30

that she was in St. John's

32:32

County, Florida, which is about an

32:34

hour and a half away from Fernandina

32:36

Beach. Now police got some insight

32:39

and learned that Jennifer was living out of her

32:41

car, which was a black Kia. So

32:43

police figured more than likely she would be at

32:45

a rest stop in St. John's County.

32:48

So one of the detectives in this case drove

32:50

over to St. John's and stopped at

32:53

multiple rest stops until lo and

32:55

behold, there was a black

32:57

Kia. At that point, the detective

33:00

had let the others working this investigation

33:03

know that they had spotted Jennifer's

33:05

car and multiple detectives

33:07

drove out to that specific rest

33:10

stop. Once multiple detectives had

33:12

arrived, they walked over to Jennifer's

33:14

car and peeked in with a flashlight

33:17

and were able to see that Jennifer

33:19

was sleeping in her car. At

33:22

that point, police banged on the windows,

33:24

waking her up and demanded for her

33:27

to step out of her vehicle. Police

33:29

noticed when she got out of the car that there

33:31

was a large cut on her face

33:34

and when asked about it, Jennifer

33:36

claimed that it was from running her bicycle

33:39

into a tree. Now during her

33:41

arrest, police had asked Jennifer

33:43

if she had ever been in Jolene's

33:46

car, to which she denied.

33:48

Now quite simply, this detective told Jennifer

33:51

that he didn't believe her. He didn't believe

33:53

what she was saying and that is

33:55

when Jennifer immediately asked

33:57

for an attorney before she was arrested

34:00

on Grand Theft of Jolene's

34:03

car. So now that Jennifer is arrested,

34:05

they really dig into her.

34:08

They are searching her car for any potential

34:11

evidence and that is where they discovered

34:13

Jennifer's hair cutting scissors and

34:15

they discovered a small dark

34:18

brown substance on the scissors

34:20

that had been dried. Now when police

34:22

saw that they thought it was very possible

34:24

that that brown substance could

34:27

have been dried blood. They

34:29

decided to send that off to the forensic

34:32

lab and through that they

34:34

were able to confirm that not only

34:36

was the substance on the scissors in fact

34:39

blood but it was also confirmed

34:41

to be Jolene's blood.

34:44

Police also found a receipt from

34:47

items that Jennifer had purchased at

34:49

a local Walmart at 9 p.m.

34:52

on May 12th which was the night

34:54

that her and Jolene closed the salon

34:57

together. From Walmart

34:59

Jennifer purchased ammonia, trash

35:02

bags, gloves, and

35:04

a carving knife. Now even

35:06

though the tangle salon didn't have a working

35:09

camera in the front of the store, they

35:11

did have a camera in the alleyway

35:13

which was in the back. Now

35:15

this alleyway camera had a straight

35:18

shot to the dumpster.

35:21

Now police went back and looked at the footage and

35:23

they saw that after going to Walmart

35:26

Jennifer returns back to the salon

35:28

and at approximately 10 53 p.m.

35:31

she is seen carrying large trash

35:34

bags to the dumpster and placing

35:36

them inside of it. Now here

35:38

is where things get complicated. The

35:40

following day on May 13th just

35:43

about two hours after

35:45

Jolene was reported missing the

35:47

garbage truck had come by

35:49

and picked up all of the contents

35:52

in the dumpster. So now

35:54

whatever Jennifer was seeing and throwing out

35:57

was gone. Now police were able

35:59

to track down the the truck and have

36:01

the company isolate off the area,

36:03

that way they could try and find whatever

36:06

Jennifer threw away. What

36:08

they were looking for sadly

36:10

was Jolene. They were looking for

36:13

any evidence of Jolene through

36:15

all of this garbage

36:18

at this landfill. They were trying to find

36:20

that Jennifer had thrown away or

36:22

unfortunately they were trying to

36:24

find Jolene herself. But

36:27

ultimately they were unsuccessful

36:29

in finding either. Now

36:32

at this point police were really trying to get

36:34

a better understanding as to what the relationship

36:36

was between Jolene and

36:38

Jennifer because quite frankly it just

36:41

did not make a lot of sense to police

36:43

of why Jennifer would want Jolene

36:45

dead and by the looks of it that

36:48

is sadly exactly

36:50

what ended up happening. Now

36:53

co-workers said that Jennifer and Jolene

36:55

got along great at first.

36:57

However over time tensions did

37:00

rise due to Jolene's blooming

37:02

clientele and the fact that Jennifer

37:05

was not making the same amount of money

37:07

as her. Co-workers said that Jennifer

37:09

was vocal about her jealousy when it came

37:12

to Jolene's success. But

37:14

along with that according to co-workers

37:17

Jolene had her own suspicions

37:20

about Jennifer. Jolene

37:22

was vocal to other co-workers about the fact

37:25

that she thought that something was

37:27

just off about Jennifer.

37:30

She told her co-workers that something about Jennifer

37:33

rubbed her the wrong way. She couldn't put

37:35

her finger on it but she just felt

37:37

like something was off with Jennifer.

37:40

Now police also learned that on the day

37:43

of May 12th Jennifer and Jolene

37:45

had gotten in to an argument.

37:49

At the time that this argument occurred there were

37:51

other co-workers in the salon and

37:53

this argument was based off of the fact again

37:55

that Jolene felt like there was something

37:58

off about Jennifer and ultimately Ultimately,

38:00

Jolene approached Jennifer

38:03

in this confrontation. The two of them

38:05

had words. And essentially,

38:08

Jolene told Jennifer that she

38:10

didn't know what was going on with her, but

38:13

she was going to figure it out. Now,

38:16

I know that that might not make a whole lot

38:18

of sense to you in this moment, but just

38:21

bear with me. So now we're at May 18th

38:23

of 2018. This is

38:26

about six days after Jolene was last

38:28

seen, and it is now two days since

38:30

Jennifer has been in custody. Now,

38:33

at this point, Jennifer finally agrees to sit

38:35

down and talk to police. However,

38:37

no one could expect what

38:39

she was going to say. Now,

38:41

when sitting down with police, Jennifer

38:44

told them that when they run her fingerprints,

38:47

as they do with all inmates, they take

38:49

their fingerprints. But she

38:51

went on to say that when they run

38:53

her fingerprints, the fingerprints

38:56

will not come up as Jennifer

38:59

Seibert. But instead,

39:01

they will come up to be a match

39:04

to a woman named Kimberly

39:07

Lee

39:07

Kessler.

39:09

She said, quote, I was

39:11

born on May 9th, 1968. I

39:15

am 50 years old, and

39:17

I've been running from the FBI

39:19

for over 25 years, end quote.

39:25

Now, as you can imagine,

39:27

this through police

39:30

through a loop. They had

39:32

no idea what to think when hearing

39:34

this. They did not know if they

39:36

could even believe what she was

39:39

saying. However, when they

39:41

ran her fingerprints, they were

39:43

able to confirm that

39:45

Jennifer Seibert was in

39:48

fact actually Kimberly

39:50

Kessler. Now, for the rest

39:52

of this case and for the rest of this episode, I am

39:55

going to be referring to her as Kimberly,

39:58

because that is her name. Now Kimberly

40:00

went on to tell police that she grew up

40:03

in Butler, Pennsylvania. She was

40:05

a cheerleader and on the honor roll

40:07

until she dropped out of high school

40:09

after getting involved with the wrong crowd.

40:12

She then left Pennsylvania and moved

40:14

to Arizona where she worked as

40:16

a topless dancer and began a

40:18

relationship with one of the men

40:21

who ran the topless dancing

40:23

establishment. Now after

40:26

a while of dating she learned that

40:28

this man was actually wanted

40:30

by the FBI for bank

40:32

robbery and she hid him

40:35

in her apartment until ultimately

40:37

they broke up. However, she continued

40:40

to stay on the run. She

40:42

claimed she did this because she thought she was

40:44

going to be in trouble for hiding

40:47

a wanted man and so she did

40:49

not want to get arrested in the process.

40:51

Now during this conversation police bring

40:54

up Jolene. They bring up Jolene's disappearance.

40:57

They bring up Kimberly's possible involvement.

41:00

However, Kimberly shut that

41:02

conversation down very quickly.

41:04

She claimed that she did not have

41:06

anything to do with Jolene's disappearance.

41:09

Didn't have anything to do with any

41:11

part of it. So she

41:13

shuts that down pretty quickly. However,

41:16

something that's interesting that I wanted to point

41:19

out is that police did some

41:21

digging into Kimberly Kessler obviously

41:24

with all of this new information. They're trying

41:26

to figure out who they're dealing with. However,

41:28

when they did so they learned

41:31

that neither the FBI or

41:34

anyone for that matter was

41:36

ever looking for a Kimberly Kessler.

41:38

So police were really not

41:41

sure about who exactly they

41:43

were dealing with. They didn't really know

41:45

what to believe with what Kimberly

41:48

was saying. Now police also

41:50

wanted to figure out at this point who exactly

41:52

Jennifer Seibert was. Was this

41:54

a name that Kimberly just made

41:57

up on her own? Was this a real person?

42:00

And that is when they learned that Jennifer Seibert

42:02

in fact was a real person.

42:06

She grew up in Butler, Pennsylvania,

42:08

which is exactly where Kimberly Kessler grew

42:10

up. However, sadly, Jennifer

42:12

Seibert the real one died

42:15

in a car accident when she was only 13

42:17

years old. Now

42:20

detectives contacted the real Jennifer

42:23

Seibert family who claimed that they had

42:25

no idea. First of all, who

42:27

Kimberly Kessler was, but

42:29

also had no idea that Kimberly Kessler

42:32

was stealing their daughter's identity.

42:35

Now police theorized that Kimberly

42:37

quite simply saw Jennifer Seibert's

42:39

name on a gravestone and

42:42

came across her story at some point

42:44

and decided to steal her identity.

42:47

Now police also learned that Kimberly

42:50

Kessler's mom had reported her missing

42:52

in 2004 when Kimberly was 36 years old. Now

42:57

at that point, Kimberly had been gone from

42:59

Butler, Pennsylvania for several years

43:02

before her mom decided to report her missing.

43:05

And according to her mom, she

43:07

claimed that she just always thought

43:09

that Kimberly would come home. That's why

43:11

she never reported her missing before.

43:14

That's why it took so many years. She figured

43:16

one day Kimberly would come home. She was an adult.

43:19

However, after years and years had

43:21

passed and Kimberly was not

43:23

in contact with her mom and she

43:25

still hadn't come home, that

43:28

is why she filed the missing persons

43:30

report. Now at this point, police

43:33

wanted to talk to the people who knew

43:35

Kimberly. Again, they spoke to her mother,

43:37

got an understanding of the timeline

43:40

of her living in Butler versus Arizona

43:42

and what their relationship

43:44

dynamic looks like. But they also wanted

43:47

to talk to the people in her

43:49

personal life, more specifically

43:51

ex boyfriends. Police

43:53

spoke to people that Kimberly had dated in the

43:56

past and they all seem to have a

43:58

very similar story. When they

44:00

initially would meet Kimberly, she would be charming

44:02

and lovable until one day, she

44:05

would just snap. They

44:07

all claimed that she would become extremely

44:10

jealous and overly controlling.

44:13

One boyfriend even recalled Kimberly

44:15

stabbing him in the chest and

44:17

biting his father's leg. Now

44:20

detectives learned that throughout

44:22

the years, Kimberly Kessler had gone

44:25

by 17 different aliases and

44:28

also had several different driver's licenses

44:30

in several different states. So

44:33

at this point, police now look through Kimberly's

44:35

cell phone and when doing so, they find

44:38

multiple internet searches. These

44:41

searches include coworker

44:43

missing, coworker not found,

44:46

Jennifer Seibert, Jolene

44:48

Cummings missing, Jolene Cummings

44:50

not found, coworker guilty

44:52

of murder, missing person body not

44:55

found, and hair studio.

44:58

And these searches went on and on

45:00

and on. And even though police

45:02

did not have Jolene's body

45:05

at this point, they were not able to recover

45:08

her remains, they were very

45:10

confident in the fact that they would be able

45:12

to indict Kimberly Kessler on first

45:14

degree murder. It is extremely,

45:17

extremely difficult to have a first degree

45:19

murder conviction when there has been no body

45:21

recovered. However, based on all the evidence,

45:24

police believed that they had a very, very

45:26

strong case. And that is why on

45:28

September 7th of 2018, a

45:31

Nassau County grand jury indicted

45:33

Kimberly Kessler on first degree

45:35

murder. Now while awaiting

45:38

her trial in jail, Kimberly

45:40

exhibited some very outlandish

45:43

behavior, including saving

45:45

her fecal matter and putting it into a cup

45:48

and throwing it at the jail guards. She

45:50

also would spit at the guards, she would yell

45:52

at them, she would cuss at them. And ultimately

45:55

her behavior was so bad that

45:57

she was ordered for a psych evaluation.

46:00

to see if she was even fit to stand for

46:02

trial. Now it was during this

46:04

evaluation that Kimberly was diagnosed

46:06

with what is called delusional

46:09

disorder. Now according to her psychiatrist,

46:12

this is what happens when someone maintains

46:14

and exhibits behaviors that are not based

46:17

in reality or fact. Now

46:19

it should be noted though that the psychiatrist

46:22

also mentioned that if someone is a good

46:24

enough actor, they can

46:26

in fact convince others that they

46:28

have delusional disorder.

46:30

Now because of this, a second psychiatric

46:33

evaluation was ordered and during

46:35

this second evaluation with a different

46:38

psychiatrist, the new psychiatrist

46:40

claimed that Kimberly did not have delusional

46:43

disorder but she in fact had something

46:45

called a personality disorder. Now

46:48

regardless of delusional disorder

46:50

and the personality disorder, the judge

46:53

decided that Kimberly was

46:55

fit for trial. Now

46:57

her trial began in December of 2021 and

47:01

when Kimberly was brought in for her first hearing,

47:03

her physical appearance had changed drastically.

47:07

Kimberly had gone on a hunger strike

47:09

and lost a significant amount of weight

47:12

and she was also brought in via wheelchair.

47:15

Now despite her physical appearance, she

47:17

continued to be incredibly disruptive

47:20

and in each court hearing that she was a part

47:23

of, it would almost become a tactic she would

47:25

use. She would be disruptive, she would

47:27

yell things out because in doing

47:30

so, the judge would have her removed

47:32

from the courtroom. So she started to learn

47:34

that if she acted out, she would be able

47:36

to leave the hearing which is exactly

47:38

what continued to happen.

47:40

Now the prosecution painted

47:42

Kimberly as a woman on the run who

47:45

felt threatened by Jolene once

47:48

Jolene threatened to figure

47:50

out whatever secret Kimberly was

47:52

hiding. They theorized

47:54

that there was a physical altercation at

47:57

the Tangles Salon when the two of

47:59

them were close. on their shift

48:01

on May 12th. They believe that this

48:04

argument escalated when Kimberly brought

48:06

out a pair of scissors and used them

48:08

to stab Jolene and then use

48:10

the carving knife that she bought at Walmart

48:13

to dismember Jolene's body

48:15

into trash bags that she put in

48:17

the dumpster, never to be found

48:20

again. Now the defense was

48:22

trying to argue that Kimberly

48:24

was in fact this woman who

48:26

had delusional disorder and personality

48:29

disorder and quite frankly this argument would be

48:31

strengthened every time Kimberly would come into

48:33

the courtroom because she would act out, she

48:36

would act erratically and she would have

48:38

to be removed. So the defense was really

48:40

able to build on that

48:42

and that was really the only angle that they could use

48:45

along with the fact that there was no body that was

48:47

ever recovered. Jolene to

48:49

this day has never been

48:51

found. They never recovered her remains

48:54

and again having a trial, a first

48:56

degree murder trial when there is

48:58

no body is very, very

49:00

difficult. However, ultimately

49:03

on December 8th, 2021, Kimberly

49:07

Kessler was found guilty of first degree

49:09

murder and grand theft auto

49:12

and was sentenced to life in prison without the

49:14

possibility of parole. Now

49:16

again, even though Kimberly has been

49:18

put behind bars for life, it

49:20

still leaves the question of

49:23

where is Jolene? What

49:26

exactly happened that night?

49:29

It's incredibly sad to think about Kimberly

49:31

who had been committing identity theft

49:33

along with who knows what other

49:35

crimes was threatened by

49:38

Jolene so much and personally I

49:40

don't believe it had anything to do with the fact that

49:42

Jolene was making more money than

49:44

Kimberly, I think it had everything to do with the fact

49:46

that Kimberly thought that Jolene was

49:48

going to figure out what was going on

49:51

and she felt like the only way out of that

49:54

was to get Jolene out of the picture

49:56

entirely, however clearly that

49:58

backfired. Now police have

50:01

never given up hope when trying to

50:03

locate Jolene's body and they still believe

50:05

that one day they will be able to reunite her with her

50:07

family and as for Kimberly

50:09

she still to this day has never admitted to

50:12

anything in regards to Jolene's murder

50:14

and has simply denied everything which

50:17

also makes this so so

50:19

much more frustrating because

50:21

she's already been convicted she's

50:23

already going to jail for the rest of her life you

50:26

would think that the least that she could do

50:28

at this point is allow Jolene

50:30

to be reunited with her family to give

50:32

them those answers to give them the

50:35

slightest bit of closure that they

50:37

could have and I just think it's really

50:40

really selfish and vindictive

50:42

and vile and evil that she isn't

50:44

even willing to do that but I

50:46

can't say I'm shocked either. But

50:49

that you guys is the case of Jolene

50:51

Cummings. I'm very interested to hear

50:53
