Yeah, what's up. Welcome to kind of funny games daily for Monday, January 10th, 2022.

0:14

I want your host blessing. Addie OAA Jr.

0:16

Joining me is my fellow Forbes 30 under 30, the LaCroix poppy himself, Tim ma fucking Getty's Blessed.

0:24

How you doing on this fine Monday?

0:25

I'm doing good. I think it might be the longest.

0:28

I've gone without hosting a KPD since I got hired.

0:32

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

0:34

Because last week was a weird one, you know, Greg's returned.

0:36

When he took over a lot more of the shows he had that energy.

0:39

He had to get out. It's already over now.

0:41

He's just back now. No more celebrating Greg being back, everybody.

0:45

Okay. It happened. Congratulations.

0:46

You're here. You're talking about video.

0:50

Yeah. I had a baby. You did it. You did the thing that most people on this planet do, man.

0:54

Some might say that this planet is overpopulated.

0:56

Why are you out here having babies? Greg, Greg,

0:59

think of it that way. Greg, Greg, Greg.

1:01

Tim is nice to be here with you.

1:03

And it's been, it's been a minute. I feel like I haven't done a one-on-one show with you for a while.

1:08

Right? Cause like schedule schedules always get mixed up depending on what's going on during any given week.

1:13

It's nice to see Both of these we didn't last week.

1:16

And then before that was the break. So it's been at least three weeks, which is crazy at Least

1:19

three weeks. How have you been? I've been Good.

1:21

Real good. You know, I've been working on the theater.

1:23

It's been my kind of big major project for my entire life.

1:26

If you want to look at it that way. But specifically during the break trying to dial it in, get everything cable managed.

1:31

It was a lot of cables to manage. It turns out the latest, Latest

1:35

update is things will look in fucking hot fire.

1:37

Let me tell you what the latest update is.

1:40

Kevin. I have been trying to get subwoofer, like the bass shakers in the seats for all of them, which is awesome.

1:46

And they're in there, but now I need to cable them all up.

1:50

This might be a question for Kevin, but like at what point, at what point do you like install some 40 X type shit in there right now?

2:00

I mean, that'll never happen.

2:02

Cause like, I don't think anyone but me loves that stuff, but like, he's got everything you need.

2:09

Cause it's the, he's got the butt shakers in there.

2:11

It's not what they're called, but bass shakers.

2:15

But, and like that's a game changer.

2:19

Like

2:19

it's

2:19

going

2:19

to

2:21

change. I can't wait to get back in there.

2:23

What's the next one? What are you going to break it in with?

2:26

No, I don't know. It's really kind of COVID dependent and it's I, what I'm thinking is when Spider-Man no way home comes to home video.

2:34

Got I sound like an old man, but whatever that happens then.

2:38

Yeah, I

2:40

can't wait for that, Tim. You know what else I can't wait for from software's next game being offered for take two, a car Zynga for $12 billion in more because this is kind of funny games daily every week that 10, eight, $12 billion yet we're going to talk about a steak there.

She's turning 19 years old today.

4:35

You'd love to see it. That's a lie. She's not turning 19.

4:37

She's way older than that. But of course We

4:41

got it. It was cute.

4:43

But like somebody, every time somebody says my age, I hear people are like, wow, he's 21.

4:46

I'm like, no, no I'm 27 people just like, they make you feel 27.

4:50

And we're like, whoa, he's so young.

4:52

Or like, wait, no, we say, oh wow.

4:55

He's he's a lot older than he looks.

4:56

Cause yeah.

4:59

And I don't understand why I was talking to, I was having this conversation about this.

5:01

Don't compare yourself to the conversation this weekend.

5:03

Cause like somebody was like, yeah, you could pass through teenager.

5:06

And I'm like, I don't understand why I don't understand what it is.

5:08

The young face face.

5:10

What are you got a young face?

5:12

Nothing you think is my lips.

5:15

You skinny? Just get real big.

5:17

I don't know.

5:18

I

5:18

guess

5:18

I

5:18

have

5:18

skinny

5:22

arms. Yeah, I guess.

5:22

I

5:22

don't

5:22

know,

5:25

man. I don't know, man. All I want is to not get caught anymore.

5:27

Is that too much to ask? It's embarrassing.

5:29

When you thought about growing a beard.

5:30

I had, I didn't like it that much.

5:35

I didn't like it that much. I just, you know how embarrassing it is when like you on a date and it's like, your, your date is like, oh y'all have the peanut Grigio or whatever.

5:43

And I'm like, oh, y'all take a cider. And they're like, they only asked me for my card.

5:46

Okay, well maybe they'll get a Cider. You know

5:48

beer

5:48

tastes

5:53

nasty. I love No problem.

5:54

Right there.

5:55

Come on. Armored

5:57

Corps. Why Do we drink beer? What is, and I know, I know this is going to start up a shit storm.

6:02

So whatever it go for a tweet at me, I can remember Maggie.

6:04

Why do we drink beer? Insider tastes significantly better.

6:07

Huh? America. That's all I want to know.

6:09

That's all I want to know. Thank you. It's been a minute since I've been on this show.

6:12

I miss being on the show. Thank you to our patient producers.

6:14

James Davis at James Davis makes blackjack and prank.

6:18

See today are brought to you by me on these door

6:20

dash and chime. But we'll tell you about that later for now.

6:23

Let's begin with what is forever will be the Roper report.

6:27

stories today.

6:32

A Baker's dozen starting with quick five.

6:36

What's up quick. Every time you go to lunch in the future with me at the new studio and you don't order an apple juice, I'm going to be like, why aren't you drinking enough juice?

6:43

It tastes great. It's just, I

6:45

said, here's the thing.

6:49

What do you go?

6:51

Do you, when you go out to lunch, do you order beer flavored water?

6:54

No, because like beers, the thing you, you save for when you go out and drink and you have the option to drink cider when you're out drinking.

7:00

That's the thing like apple juice is great.

7:03

I don't know what shade is. Throwing an applicant. It's all my dog is shit about AIJ it's just what you're saying.

7:08

It tastes great. So I'm just like, well, okay, well next time you want a milkshake.

7:10

Get an apple juice. Like we talked about like, you know what I mean? When your Beer

7:13

tastes nasty is the point here.

7:15

You got to refine your pal. This is why everybody thinks you want off the kid's menu.

7:19

I

7:19

don't

7:19

go

7:19

to

7:19

the

7:19

bands,

7:23

right? Don't be out here. Underwriting the kids, man menu.

7:25

First of all, oh my God, you get a Joliet toys with that thing.

7:28

Story. Number one has acquired Zynga.

7:31

This is Daniel partis at games, industry.biz take two.

7:36

Interactive has announced it has reached a deal to acquire a mobile developer Zynga.

7:40

The publisher will purchase all outstanding shares of the Farmville maker with a total enterprise value of approximately $12.7 billion.

7:47

The transaction represents a 64% premium to Zynga's closing share price.

7:53

On Friday, January 7th, the acquisition seizing his portfolio of mobile titles fall under the Take-Two umbrella, including empires and puzzles, merge dragons and Harry Potter puzzles and spells Zynga CEO, Frank Gabel and president of publishing Bernard.

8:08

Kim will oversee the, the firm's integration into take two and lead the company's combined Zynga and take two mobile games business, which will operate under the former.

8:18

Take two is also set to expand its board of directors to 10 members adding two members from Zynga's board.

8:23

Looking ahead, take two expects mobile mobile to comprise over 50% of net bookings for fiscal year 2023.

8:30

As a result of the merger compared to the estimated 12% in 2022, their transaction is expected to close during take twos.

8:39

First fiscal quarter 2023, ending June 30th, 2022.

8:43

Well Hey, happy birthday.

8:46

We are thrilled to announce our transformative transaction with Zynga, which significantly diversifies our business and establishes our leadership position in mobile.

8:54

The fastest growing segment of the interactive entertainment industry said, take two CEO and chairman Strauss.

8:59

Zelnick quote. This strategic combination brings together our best in class console and PC franchises with a market leading diversified mobile publishing platform that has a rich history of innovation and creativity.

9:11

Zynga also has a highly talented and deeply experienced team.

9:15

And we look forward to welcoming them into the take two family in the coming months and quote first, most recently reported quarter Zynga reported revenues of $705 million or 40% year over year increase in earnings and managed to improve its bottom line with reduced losses over the course of 2021.

9:32

The transaction also marks the games industry's most valuable deal yet beating out 10 cents, 2016 acquisition of Supercell for $8.6 billion and Microsoft's acquisition of, but that's the parent ZeniMax for $7.5 billion in 2020 Tim.

9:48

That's a lot of money, $12.7 billion.

9:53

And you know, to put that in context a little bit like calf wasn't star wars sold to Disney for 4 billion more That's

9:59

three star wars. That's why when they said, I was like, Hey, can't be right.

10:03

Like isn't the always like fucking going like, ah, like the closing or some shit.

10:09

I feel like every other week it's like, oh, it's closing. You used to be.

10:13

So Yeah, I don't know about that.

10:15

I don't know. I think you've just said So,

10:17

I mean, that sounds like very Kevin thing to know though.

10:20

Yeah. Kevin's like a building.

10:22

He was like, okay, maybe you can buy this. Then you kind of funny studio Sega

10:24

building and downtown as I've did close, but the Zynga building never closed.

10:29

I don't think they're different buildings.

10:31

It just to be extra clear, but yeah.

10:34

Oh yeah. Yeah.

10:37

I'll check that out. Plus

10:38

let me ask you a question Zynga.

10:42

Right? What comes to mind themes?

10:44

The Zynga MC Well,

10:47

it comes to mind is the era of Facebook when like applications and games are dominating, right?

10:53

Farmville, like was Katie crush singer Though?

10:58

That's king.

11:00

Yeah.

11:00

It's

11:00

like

11:02

why? I mean like, yeah, the Facebook games come to mind.

11:04

Honestly. That's the interesting thing.

11:06

The mobile game is words with friends is like the big one and of the big ones, but it is interesting.

11:12

Cause like hearing this, I feel like a lot of us are, you know, kind of not that into that world.

11:18

So we hear it all. We just associate king and Zynga as being essentially the same thing, but they're very much not like Zynga.

11:24

This is way more like you were saying that Facebook type stuff that did translate to mobile.

11:28

And a lot of the people playing were playing Facebook games and stuff on mobile devices.

11:32

So that's kind of interesting, but I do think that that's a key note that this is not king king as part of Activision blizzard.

11:38

So we are now having take two, which is another one of the kind of big goal.

11:43

I'm going to gobble you up motherfuckers and Activision kind of going head to head in an interesting way where Zynga and king are kind.

11:51

There's some parity between them, even though they do slightly different things.

11:54

But at the end of the day, what they both do is make a shit ton of money over and over and over for like low-hanging fruit type stuff.

12:01

So this isn't surprising, especially as we move into this era of crypto currency and what that means for video games.

12:07

Like I don't think it'd be a surprise that this is kind of a first step towards that shift for take two, which that's gotta be something for everybody to deal with.

12:17

But I also think that this is probably them continuing to leverage their IP in different platforms, especially on mobile.

12:25

Like we've already seen GCA got put on to every mobile device imaginable, you know, and like so many different ports, so many Different

12:34

platforms, GTA, trilogy CPAs, and those games.

12:37

Exactly. So it's not like they're a stranger to putting things on mobile platforms, but I do think that so far they haven't done the, like what do we think of mobile games?

12:49

Like the gotcha stuff and all that.

12:51

They haven't done that as far as I know.

12:53

And at the very least they haven't done it successfully. Yeah.

12:54

And I, this is a, this is a huge move for them, right?

12:59

When you look at that, that specific figure of take two expects mobile to comprise over 50% of net bookings for fiscal year 2023, compared to the estimated 12% in 2022, right.

13:09

They're looking for mobile to be a huge part of the strategy going forward.

13:12

And you mentioned them already having put the original GTA games on mobile, right?

13:17

This strikes me as them trying to figure out how to translate their current IPS into mobile IPS.

13:24

And that's the thing that even Strout Zelda can say it in one of the quotes floating out there from their investor call, right?

13:28

He says here, quote, perhaps most importantly, we have the ability together and talking about talking about, take two and Zynga from both a development and a publishing point of view to optimize the creation of new titles based on take two's core intellectual property.

13:40

When you talk about core intellectual property for take two, you're talking about some big games, right?

13:45

You are talking about GTA. You're talking about borderlands, you're talking about a wide array of games.

13:49

And you know, you mentioned GTA being on platforms.

13:52

The GTA game that has seen plenty of platforms now is GTA five, right?

13:57

And that is the one game that isn't on mobile.

13:59

I can easily, easily, easily see them going.

14:02

All right. GTA five is one of the most profitable games ever at this point.

14:07

We've put it on every, we either put it or are putting it on every major console platform out there.

14:13

How more can we, can we proliferate?

14:16

Right? What else can we put this on? How can we continue to push GTA online?

14:19

I mean, mobile is the next step, whether that is current GT online or whatever GTA online is for the future, whatever inevitably comes out.

14:28

Well, bless, you know, what's interesting too.

14:30

Obviously GTA five is, is an online specifically great things to pull out there, but what else does take 2 0 2 K what else does UK not own, but make MBAs, right?

14:42

It's like, there's, there's a lot of possibility for a lot of money to be made from all this, but it is just interesting to look at the list of games from Zynga and to try to figure out what the application could look like.

14:55

Because a lot of these aren't the traditional type of mobile games that we think of.

15:00

So I don't know, this whole thing kind of reads to me as kind of distraction and not fully telling the truth of what's going on.

15:08

I do think it's more trying to get user base and trying to get the Facebook type connections than it is necessarily about making the mobile games.

15:17

Like they're saying it is, but we'll see.

15:19

And also seeing the doesn't make games, someone in the chat I saw earlier saying like they're working on a star wars hunters on the switch, so it's not like they're just Facebook games or just mobile games, but they do make quote unquote real games.

15:32

So I don't know.

15:35

I think I have one more quarter. What I want to pull from Strauss Zelnick as well.

15:38

Right? It's him talking about some of the properties that they're working with, right.

15:41

I'm pulling from an IGN article written by Joel scribbles who writes quote, our labels are home to some of the most iconic brands in the world, including grand theft auto, which we've talked about red dead redemption, midnight club NBA, two K like you mentioned, Bioshock, borderlands, Sid Meyers civilization mafia in Kerbal space program.

15:59

And, and like, you know, some of those, I can see some of those it's like, okay, do we, are they going to make a, a mobile version of mafia, for example, right.

16:10

That seems like a bit further fresh thing, but who knows, maybe they did the remake last year, or I guess two years ago at this point we're in 2020 and who that's wild.

16:17

They made that remake and put it out.

16:19

Right. And so it's not like they're not thinking about mafia. Interesting that they say midnight club.

16:23

That's the one that kind of sticks out there is like a out of all those games, midnight club hasn't been around for a long time.

16:29

Why do you really consider midnight club and actual key property for take two?

16:34

I think that's such an interesting one to throw out there.

16:36

I don't know if it means anything but interesting that they mentioned it, but yeah, like you say, right NBA two K.

16:40

I could see how that translates. I can see, I can see, especially translating that to a mobile strategy, how you can double down on that in order to sell players.

16:47

So like points allocated to your players are not played in me to K my creative player.

16:53

So I don't know how exactly how that works, but knowing what the conversation around it'd be a two K a lot of the times is it seems like there's a lot to kitchen's act there on the, in the mind, in the mobile space.

17:02

And so I wouldn't be surprised to see that civilization.

17:04

I can see even things like Kerbal space program.

17:08

I'm sure there are ways you can translate that to mobile and other platforms in order to make that a bigger deal to more players that maybe wouldn't play it on consoles.

17:15

And so it was very fascinating stuff like $12 billion.

17:20

That's an amount of money that you're not going to put away.

17:24

So I expect to see, I expect for this to be a huge shift in strategy strategy for them.

17:29

I think it could be what you're talking about, right.

17:30

In terms of, Hey, let's put, let's get our foot in the door of Facebook and, you know, have those connections that Ciena has as a company.

17:38

But I also think it's that two-fold thing of let's do that and also like figure out how to really take advantage of the money we can make by translating the IPS that we have to mobile.

17:45

Yeah, absolutely. Tim,

17:47

I got some exciting, I want to talk about, and that is from software's next game being the return of armored Corps.

17:55

This is story number two, I'm pulling from Andy Robinson at video games, Chronicle from softwares.

18:00

Next armored core game has reportedly pic confirmed via a consumer survey reset era user red licorice claimed on Saturday that he'd received a survey from the golden ring in dark soul studio, which seemingly reveals the first details on the next unannounced MEK combat game, the unnamed installment, which would be the first four armored core titles since 2012, it's set to feature a scifi world created by Hirotaka Miyazaki with three-dimensional dynamic action and a high degree of freedom and customization quote.

18:30

The game is a third person shooter Mecca action title that lets you move around an overwhelmingly scaled map that represents a unique Saifai world with dynamic mech action.

18:41

The alleged survey reads well you'll face strong enemies and fierce battles, both long and short range using web using guns and blades and quote.

18:49

This is not just for the game. Reportedly sees government or sees the government corporations, Cultus and unknown mercenaries battling over an alien substance that can quote drastically advanced human society and quote, according to the user quote, the boss fight looked quite Tsosie the long range gunfire reminded me of ritual on that's my frame of reference.

19:10

I'm not a Mac fan and having played any armored core games, the player character in a white mech went in close to the bigger robot boss and fought with, with like an energy or laser sword.

19:21

This looked Seoul style and quote, the user continued to say, quote, the field gameplay the player in, in the same white mix seem to be following a couple of other players in the distance.

19:33

Co-op question mark. And there are walking, flying close to the ground, maybe through a snowy area towards either a large wall or gate.

19:40

This seemed solely to the vastness of the architecture, but it wasn't a castle.

19:45

More like a worn down metal slash Stonewall or gate.

19:48

It was quite short and quote, Tim, what is your take here on this armored core game from, from software?

19:55

I mean, yo, this is kind of hype, right?

19:57

Like this. I think that this is the best chance armored cars ever had to succeed.

20:02

And what a fucking story, man, more sayings out there.

20:04

I'm sure. Ready to ride it and ask questions.

20:06

As he's asked about when we're going to get a new armored Corps for a bazillion years here at kind of funny, but I, I love that we've known that they've been working on an Armand core game.

20:15

Like it was announced a long time ago or at least like in the background has been being worked on, but it now coming from, from software after the success and the rise of souls that we've had in the last decade, like I think that, you know, to say that solace has become a genre of its own.

20:31

It's like almost ridiculous. Like it it's so much more than that at this point where it's just like souls games are such a thing and it it's been proven by things like Sephora winning game of the year.

20:41

It doesn't even need souls in the name. People understand what it is, you know, they, they know what it means to be a, to be dark souls, demon, souls, all this stuff.

20:48

So to kind of take that and apply it to armored Corps, I think is brilliant because it allows a different type of gameplay in the same way.

20:57

The second world was a little bit more action focused, just like bloodborne compared to the, the souls games are record allowing look long range, like a little bit more focused on lasers and shit.

21:07

But also like they're describing here having that the up-close Malay sword, laser sword type shit.

21:13

I think this could really work and guess what people love Mex and people love souls games, and people really love me as AKI.

21:20

So you put those things together and like, yo, that's not only the best chance armored core has to be relevant, but it's the best chance our recorder has.

21:27

It has to be good. And this has the potential to be a game of the year type contender, if done.

21:34

Right. That's crazy. I can't believe I'd ever say that, but an armored core game, but like that's pretty.

21:40

Yeah. Like you said, it's, it's crazy when you say that about army Corps, right?

21:43

Not that armored Corps, previous armored Corps games have been bad or anything like that, but it's more so the thing of from software since releasing whatever the last armored core game was wet during like the PS three era, I imagine kind of funny.com/ you're wrong.

21:55

They've re they've risen to a new echelon of developer.

21:58

Like they have, they have made a name for themselves in a way that goes beyond like, oh yeah.

22:03

From software there. That we're, that there's that studio that we know from making cool action games.

22:06

I have a Nisha audience now being a developer where this year they have one of them, one of the most highly anticipated titles in Elden ring, right?

22:14

A few years ago they had a game of the game awards game of the year winner.

22:17

And second row shadows died twice, right?

22:19

Midway through the last generation of games they had bloodborne, which plenty of people would probably consider it to be one of, if not the best PlayStation exclusive title on the platform, right?

22:29

The audience is that passionate about it to be that studio and to be able to come full circle and go cool.

22:34

Now, after putting out demon souls and putting out dark souls, putting out sacral and putting out elder and ring, you know, what do we want to do next?

22:40

You know what? Let's go back to one of our, no pun intended.

22:43

One of our core titles in armored Corps and let's bring it back.

22:47

Let's take the learnings that we've had over the last decade.

22:49

Let's take me as AKI, who is proven to be one of the best lead directors in the industry right now.

22:54

And let's put them on this title that, you know, unlike Elden ring isn't necessarily a new IP eldering has a thing of, it's essentially a successor to dark souls, right?

23:05

It is OpenWorld. It's speaking to the, from software audience in that way.

23:09

And eLearning is going to be hell of successful because of it.

23:12

Armored core has probably a lot of the same things in terms of, Hey, this is from software.

23:17

This is me, is AKI. You know, the fan base is gonna rock with this, but also it's an IP that, you know, it's an IP that plenty of people want to see return.

23:24

It's an IP that is different from everything else that we've made.

23:27

And from software, they proven that when they make something that's different from what they, what they made before, they still, they still know how to adapt their, their design sensibilities to make a good right.

23:36

Bloodborne was different from dark souls. Yet bloodborne still hit.

23:39

Second row was even more different. Second reel is still hit, right?

23:42

Eldering is going to be open-world we'll see if hits.

23:44

I am confident that that's probably going to hit, right?

23:47

Like after all of that, seeing them work on armor Corps, which probably couldn't possibly be even more different, man.

23:53

I can't wait to see how they do it.

23:56

And to see them possibly knock it out of the park.

23:58

Absolutely, man. I mean, looking here, I'm a core five seems to be the last core title.

24:02

This was released back in 2012 on the PS three and 360.

24:06

There's a couple of spin-offs after that, but yeah, that's a long time, man.

24:10

And I feel like this is a great shot at for them to potentially just completely reboot it and change what the franchise is in means to people.

24:17

And yeah, it's the most, the highest potential for the most audience they've ever had.

24:22

And this game can speak loudly to people.

24:25

Like I haven't talked to Eddie about this.

24:27

I haven't seen his reactions, but I can only imagine he's stoked out of his fucking little mind about this.

24:32

Cause you're gonna get to get Cortez Mex and from software, like what that means nowadays.

24:38

Like it's so funny. Cause like this is where it all began, right from software with armored core, but it just means something different now.

24:45

So I liked it from software means something different.

24:47

Now what could that mean for armored Cornell?

24:49

And I think it means something really damn cool.

24:52

Now does this speak to you when this Arbor court game comes out?

24:55

And as I asked this question to Kevin, you can, if you can bring up the screenshots because over on I think it was Reddit or some website, it might have been recent era.

25:02

It looks like screenshots had been uploaded.

25:05

Yeah. Reset era screenshots from the consumer survey had been uploaded and the screenshots very low quality because I think this person was trying to scrub out the watermarks that were on it.

25:15

So you can't really see things too clearly, but it is a taste of what this armored core game might look like based on the consumer survey.

25:22

Tim, is this something that might speak to you?

25:25

I mean, dude, I love Becks, so why not man?

25:27

I'm interested. I remember the almond core soundtrack kicking ass and like Mexican kick ass soundtracks go a long way for me.

25:34

And that haunted quality video game.

25:36

Like that's, it's exciting for sure. Yeah.

25:38

I'm S I'm the same where you mix in theory really speak to me.

25:43

Right. And of course I love things like mellow gear and even near automata ha had like Mexicans in it and shit zone of the Enders.

25:50

Right. And like, I, I, I've never played a met game that is specifically an armored core, like met, met game where it is.

25:56

Hey, no, you are controlling the max, you were playing this. The ones that I've tried haven't necessarily stuck with me.

26:00

Like I tried out a Damon X Mokena when that came out, it came out and it just, it just did not stick with me.

26:05

And so like, you know, I th I, I think I'm in the, the circle of people who are like ready for some to come through that, like I get hooked in into, but like, I just haven't had that come by yet.

26:17

And so like, I really hope that this is this because like, you know, again from software talented developer developer that I've grown to love now.

26:24

And like, I think if anybody's going to do a well it's, it's going to be them.

26:28

So I cannot wait for it, Tim.

26:30

You know what else? I can't wait for for people to check out patrion.com/kind of funny games where they can go and get the show ad free.

29:55

Before

29:55

we

29:55

get

29:55

into

29:55

story,

29:55

number

29:55

three,

29:55

Tim,

29:55

there

29:55

was

29:55

a

29:55

new

29:55

trailer

29:55

that

29:55

popped

29:55

up

29:55

this

29:55

morning

29:55

that

29:55

I

29:55

watched

30:01

that. I don't know how I feel about, I don't know if you saw this one, a trailer for Bel air.

30:06

I have not applied. Yes, I have it pulled up and after the show, I'm going to watch it.

30:11

Wait, what is it? It's the fresh prince reboot.

30:15

The Bel-Air reboot.

30:16

Dark gritty. Yeah.

30:18

And I watched the trailer halfway through the trailer.

30:22

I like, I felt like I was losing my mind. Really?

30:24

I was laughing at it.

30:26

Yeah. I, oh, you're laughing. I might watch it.

30:28

I was laughing because it's that the it watching, it feels like you're watching a parody trailer on YouTube that like a fan made of like, oh, what if we took this like popular thing and like made it gritty.

30:40

And like, recontextualize certain bits as like, oh, this is fucked up now.

30:45

That's Really,

30:47

That's what it, that's how it came To

30:49

be. Someone did that. And that was A

30:52

show. And will Smith saw that and was like, let's turn that into a show, but it's not even a joke.

30:56

I think that's exactly what happened. Will Smith was like, yeah, that's a good idea.

31:00

I think he did one other show will Smith's involved in Cobra, Kai executive producer, baby.

31:04

You got to watch that shit Right

31:08

now. He just made that up. There's no way. That's True. No, look at any episode, will Smith credited like our will.

31:14

I'm Not going to look at Any episode. Tim are will Smith will Smith.

31:19

Yes. He's my he's my I'm not talking about, I'm not talking about games industry.

31:23

Willsmith I'm talking when I say my will Smith.

31:25

I mean, fresh prince of Bel air will Smith. Well

31:27

Smith, because because of the aquatic had reboot with his kid.

31:31

Oh

31:31

shit,

31:31

holy

31:34

cow. Holy cow. It's all kind of wild That

31:38

now I got to watch it.

31:40

I know I normally would fuck with you guys.

31:43

I'm not fucking around with this, But

31:44

yeah, I would consider G even, even if this is like a, What?

31:49

Nothing,

31:49

Kevin,

31:49

Kevin,

31:49

I

31:49

love

31:49

you

31:49

so

31:49

much,

31:58

Kevin. He just think him, even if it's like a pull a Periscope type shit, even if, even if you do it on like your own personal Instagram, I need you to like rely react to this fresh prince trailers.

32:07

All I'm saying, I need to see your react or just text your reaction.

32:10

Just let me know, because I have a lot of thoughts and feelings.

32:13

It's all over the place to you.

32:15

What else is all over the place? This episode? Okay. Let's get back on track with story.

32:18

Number three sources say Sony has switched the twisted metal reboot developer.

32:22

This is Andy Robinson at video games.

32:25

Chronicle PlayStation has changed his plans for the end of Almont twisted metal.

32:29

Reboot sources have told VGC last year, BDC reported that a new car combat installment, which by release would be the series.

32:37

First in over a decade has started early development at the Liverpool UK based destruction, all-stars developer lucid games.

32:43

However, video games Chronicle has been told that the project has been has since ceased development at lucid.

32:49

And according to sources, Sony has decided to instead move the series revival to one of its first party studios in Europe, Sony interactive entertainment and lucid games did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

33:01

It's understood. Sony still intends to bring back the car combat series in time to coincide with an upcoming TV series in 2023 and early work has begun at the unnamed first party studio.

33:13

So obviously this did not provide an explanation for the change to developer.

33:17

However, one person suggested that the poor reception to loosens PS five, title destruction all-stars could have contributed to the decision, Tim, where are you at with this one?

33:28

You know, it's a bummer man. Twisted metal is very similar to me to star Fox in so many ways and that I love it so dearly and so much.

33:37

And I just don't have any real hope that we're ever going to get anything that touches Starfox 64 or twisted metal black.

33:44

And at some level that's fine.

33:46

We have those, those aren't going away.

33:48

I can always go back to them and get my kick. I do think Starfox 64 holds up a hundred percent and I can stand by that because I played through it recently on the switch, all ed with the Knotel led with the online on my island and with twisted metal black.

34:04

It's like some of the things that I loved most about it, or the kind of edge Lordy kind of pushing the boundaries shit that are probably cringing and embarrassing now.

34:13

But when I was like 12 years old hearing sweets, you say motherfucker was the coolest thing in the world.

34:18

So I don't know what a modern twisted metal could look like to satisfy me, but I'm hopeful.

34:28

And I want to see it. Like, I think just a metal is a very cool franchise with cool ideas.

34:32

I did not like the PS three version of it because it stripped away.

34:36

What I like most about was the metal, which is the characters.

34:39

And they, they like pared that down, like ridiculously.

34:42

But yeah, this, this news is not surprising, I guess at the end of the day, I'm a little happy because I didn't like destruction.

34:51

All-stars from little, I played and it is kind of that thing I always talk about, like with smash brothers and the PlayStation all-stars battle Royale, you're got to do the thing, just do the thing and they didn't quite do it.

35:01

They they're just like, eh, it's like two the middle, but it's not, it's a, it's a different type of shit.

35:05

And then hearing that they were working on twisted metal.

35:07

It's like, okay, well didn't really get it right the first time.

35:10

So I don't know.

35:12

I also don't think that they fucked it up that bad.

35:14

So it's interesting to see whether this is actually going to land.

35:17

I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up just not happening and getting canceled somewhere along the way.

35:21

The fact that they doubled down and officially talked about the TV show at CES a couple of days ago, surprising to me like I'm what the hell is that going to be?

35:31

I hope that it's good. I think it has even less of a chance of being good.

35:34

Anthony Mackie. No,

35:35

I didn't. That's cool News,

35:37

but yeah, like I'm from the, the on variety.

35:41

I think the snaps, this is out there for like what the story set up is it's him essentially.

35:45

I think delivering a package in the twisted metal universe and in my head, I contextualize that as like, this is a, there's a very specific reference, but like a combination of mad max and the movie 30 minutes or less.

35:59

I don't know if you seen that movie. Yeah.

36:01

The movie is about the pizza delivery driver.

36:03

He gets a bomb strapped to him. I, I think it might be a meeting of the middle of somewhere in there.

36:08

And if that's the case, I think it has potential. I think that could sound, I think that sounds kind of fun.

36:12

Anthony Mackie. I think he's a funny dude who like, I want to see in more comedic roles.

36:17

I hope it's that it could, it could be gritty.

36:20

It could be like serious ingredient. I don't necessarily want that from a twisted metal Anthony Mackie series, but if they lean into, into sort of the camp of it and the goofiness of it, I think there could be something cool.

36:30

There, I think the interesting thing about this news is that the TV series, the upcoming TV series is due in 2023.

36:36

And if a studio is in like the beginning processes of making this game, what does this game look like coming out in 2023?

36:45

That's the interesting thing about this though, is that a twisted metal game?

36:50

I think ironically less is more with it.

36:54

Like I feel like it being a smaller title is actually the best chance of actually succeeding because the thing about it is at its core, it's a multiplayer game.

37:02

And what a multi-player game means in 2022 or three is very different than what it meant back on the original PlayStation, right?

37:10

So it's the middle two is one of the most iconic multiplayer games of all time.

37:14

But that was for a very different time.

37:17

Now there's different expectations. And I think that the twist of LPs three game really came out of the, a fascinating time of trying to redefine what multiplayer can mean in that PS three era, but it totally didn't stick the landing.

37:32

And that was at a time when multiplayer was being redefined by things like call of duty.

37:36

So where we're at now for a twist of medals to succeed, I don't know that that's possible, like on a major, big level.

37:43

So don't put this out as a big AAA game, put it out as something smaller.

37:48

Like I'm not even necessarily saying free to play.

37:51

I think even more like the 20, $30 type of title that I'm putting that price tag, there's an expectation to it.

37:59

Right. I think that could work.

38:01

And I think that wouldn't require as long of a development cycle, depending on what they make the game.

38:06

Like if they just go back to what it used to be and what you're saying even about like sticking with the campiness of it all, like I think they could make something fun, like a more like retro nostalgia kind of game, as opposed to we're trying to redefine online multiplayer.

38:19

Yeah. And also John Bob stab and Chad mentions the show is being written by the Deadpool and zombie zombie land guys too, which I think led me down that line of thinking of, oh yeah, this has to be more campy has to be more goofy.

38:30

And I'm right there with you that it making it twist a mental game in 22 or 2023 is a, it's a task, right?

38:38

Like it, there are so many questions that pop up of how do you make this work?

38:43

If it's an online game, if it's an online, only game, what are the modes that need to be in there to make it work?

38:50

Does it need to be just death match? Do you mean, do you need to make an objective base?

38:52

Do you have to take cues from like a, like an Overwatch or a like, or even a fortnight or like something that is doing it right.

39:01

Right now in terms of, this is how you make an ongoing game in 2022, right?

39:04

Like what used you need to take, I don't know how you do that with a car based game, like a car combat based game, because we don't have many examples of that type of game that's out there killing it right now.

39:17

I mean, there's rocket league, right. But that is that's soccer, right?

39:20

That is, that is a sports game at its heart.

39:22

Hey, they call it that's that's dumb.

39:24

That's not me. I didn't think that You didn't need to blast.

39:27

You didn't have to do that. You brought that to this blessed show.

39:30

Okay. Exactly. It didn't feel right.

39:32

Saying out loud, I'll be automated. I didn't, I didn't, I didn't like it come out of my mouth, but Hey, here we are.

39:36

Hey, Kevin liked it.

39:39

You know, rocket league kind of ha kinda has it, but that's kind of a different thing.

39:43

Like if you're, if you're focusing in on what makes twisted metal twisted metal, it has to be destruction.

39:48

It has to be combat and trying to make that Character.

39:51

I'm telling you guys, this is what makes this metal special is the characters is the wackiness and the backstories.

39:57

And you like the one thing to me that they need to nail on top of the gameplay and stuff.

40:03

Cause the gameplay will translate to multiplayer if you just get it right.

40:06

But what they need is investment in characters and story, where I want to play through the very short campaign with multiple characters, because I want to see their mid point story, their end point story.

40:18

It's an old type of nostalgic gaming that we don't see too much nowadays.

40:21

But as the industry kind of matures and grows and the definition of what is retro moves with that, the idea of 2d platform being retro is over like 2d platforms are retro 2d.

40:37

Platformers are now as common as anything else that there's just a genre.

40:41

You know, like they're just too many platforms they're just back.

40:45

And I feel like now it's kind of going to that next step.

40:48

And I do think that they can make it twist the metal work again as a smaller title, but just understanding the core of what people actually latched onto in the first place.

40:57

Apocalypse, Cowan chat says a character, which, You

41:01

know,

41:03

Hey,

41:03

there

41:03

you

41:03

go,

41:03

there

41:03

you

41:07

go. My one other question too is who is working on this?

41:11

Now, if it's not, if it's not lucid than what European PlayStation studio is working on this, I look at the list of European PlayStation studios, right?

41:22

And we have , which is a sports city, or they're not doing it nexus, which is a poor house, right?

41:28

They port shit to PC. They're not doing it. Media molecule, which I got, I hope they're not doing it.

41:33

I wouldn't think meta molecule molecules doing it right.

41:35

How smart they're not doing it. Guerrilla games.

41:37

They're probably not doing it. That brings us to you.

41:39

Fire Sprite and London studio, London studio has already been working on a multiplayer title for a little bit.

41:47

There was a, a job posting that went up, I think last spring now that they're looking for to hire people, to work on a PS five multiplayer game.

41:55

And so unless, unless they're somehow doing both or they put that title on pause to work on this, I don't know if they're working on this, but it's a maybe right.

42:05

It's maybe. And then the other being fire Sprite could be a good contender.

42:08

Historically they're doing VR games, right.

42:11

And they are working on the newly announced horizon game that is coming out for PSVR too.

42:15

And so it seems like they're pretty busy, but they're also a really big studio.

42:18

I believe they're Sony's biggest European studio at this point or one of the biggest European studios for Sony at this point.

42:24

And so like, Hey, maybe they have the bandwidth to also work on a console, a twist of metal game as well.

42:30

But it seems like it's it's between those two.

42:32

And if I had to guess I'll probably get fired Sprite for the size of that studio.

42:36

And so we'll see, we'll see about that one.

42:39

Let's round out the report with story number four.

42:43

This is a rumor paramount has reportedly signed a deal with epic games to bring characters to fortnight.

42:49

This is Jacob at Fortnite news.

42:51

Only 12 days after it was revealed that Microsoft is working with epic games to bring characters to fortnight.

42:57

The same source has shared information of a similar deal with paramount.

43:01

According to the latest X-Box era podcast on YouTube, paramount has signed a deal with epic games that will allow multiple characters to be added to Fortnite as wearable outfits during the podcast, the teenage mutant ninja turtles were mentioned as the main characters that epic is working to the game.

43:17

Hell yeah. With the newly signed deal between epic and paramount.

43:20

It's likely that more than just the teenage mutant ninja turtles will be coming to Fortnite.

43:24

It's worth noting that paramount owned SpongeBob square pants, avatar the last Airbender and many more characters that could all potentially be added to the game in the future.

43:33

So take that all with a grain of salt, but it sounds like a thing, right?

43:36

It sounds like that sounds like it makes sense.

43:39

Hang gliding down would be so cool, but Ang holding a submachine gun, you know, less cool.

43:47

I

43:47

mean,

43:47

they've

43:47

given

43:47

more

43:47

ridiculous

43:47

character

43:47

guns

43:47

in

43:47

that

43:47

game,

43:53

right? Like why inspired me and running around with a Glock in his hand, it doesn't make sense.

43:57

Who, who are your kind of like, do you have a main or like, do you kind of alternate between I

44:02

have 75, like pre-built characters that I put together.

44:06

Wow. That it alters I'm in between.

44:09

And I'm very excited when I get any number of them, but like, I don't know, like some of my favorite ones are like characters that don't like, they're not real characters they're just made by fortnight, but I also, I'm a huge fan of like getting Terminator or Ironman or Sigourney Weaver from aliens.

44:30

Yeah. What about when you get to be Donatello's?

44:34

Is that going to, is that Oh

44:36

fuck. Yeah. Well, I mean, no, I, I would, I would, I'm probably at some point going to start deleting the generic ones that are made by fortnight that don't hit as hard to, for the characters that I like more like your Superman's or Spider-Man's Rick and Morty's God, there's so many good ones and it's and the games can we play for so long that we see a lot of those people too, like I'm getting a, I'm getting a good mix.

45:02

So that's the 75 prebuilt. We can go up to a hundred, I think.

45:06

So I'm going to keep building With

45:07

this paramount deal.

45:09

Give me, I, Carly, give me, give me what I want.

45:12

I Carly, with a gun in her hand, going through a gunning down Spire to manage it.

45:15

I'm also, I'm on a, the paramount plus homepage right now, just to see like, okay, what are the things that they're pushing?

45:21

And you know, it's a mix, it's a mix.

45:24

There's that? There's the new south park special. I can be down for some south park in fortnight on holiday that work with our style Paramount.

45:30

Is it, I

45:32

mean the south park, but the post COVID special is on the paramount plus like, is there A

45:38

deal with them? Yeah, but like they don't Own

45:41

it. You know, the rights of the characters is what I'm saying.

45:44

I Gotcha. Gotcha. There's a Clifford, the big red dog that's on paramount Hunt.

45:51

That

45:51

would

45:51

be

45:51

fire

45:51

either

45:51

how

45:51

it

45:51

would

45:51

be

45:51

great

45:51

in

45:57

fortnight. I'm also looking at, I honestly could see that happening for the next one.

46:01

The One in status That

46:03

actually

46:03

makes

46:03

a

46:03

lot

46:03

of

46:03

sense

46:03

that

46:03

lines

46:03

up,

46:07

Tim. I cannot wait to see what paramount characters get added into fortnight, but that's probably just so far away.

46:14

If I want to know what's coming out to mom and pop shops today, where would I look List

46:18

of upcoming software across each and every platform as listed by the kind of funny games daily shows each and every weekday Out

46:34

today. It's a light release week. You're getting per cross S seven, which I've seen plenty of people getting excited about and star balls for switch both of those balls, which star balls, new days for you, the company man launches January 21st on Nintendo switch worldwide and then serious Sam Siberian mayhem is coming out on January 25th on steam deals of the day for you.

46:55

This is via Mario 64. There is an intended switch, digital games, new year sale.

47:00

Right now you can pick up games like borderlands the handsome collection for 1599, burnout paradise remastered for 8 99 and shin Montgomery 10, save five for 41 99.

47:10

So hop on that. Now at this time for reader mail, you remember you can go to patrion.com/kind of funny games.

47:16

We can get the show ad free. You can ride them with your squad ups, but you can also get your questions read on the show, just like malcontent Ronin did Ronan writes in and says, Hey guys, and this is all, this is all the way back to the two K or take to Zynga acquisition.

47:29

I always recall hearing how the worst microphones actions in fact belong to the NBA.

47:35

Two K series a, I say they belong to Zynga, which pioneered predatory actions with Farmville creating the concepts of pay-to-win and pay just to keep playing, seeing them undertake to you may result in nothing, but it also could easily result in pure evil.

47:51

Kim, let's say you, Yeah,

47:53

pure evil.

47:55

I be like, you're not wrong, but like, damn when you put it like that.

48:00

Yeah. I mean, look, this is kind of something I think we're going to see a lot more and we've already seen a lot, which is kind of the conglomeration of different monetization strategies, where when you have the IP, your IP is only worth as much as you can sell it for.

48:16

So find a bunch of different ways to sell it and make as much money as humanly possible from all of it.

48:20

Take two are huge, right? Like we were saying earlier, like all the different IP that they have, like just counting NBA two K and GTA, we're talking about two games that are on the top selling list every single month.

48:34

Doesn't matter what month of the year it is.

48:36

And you know, in the case of GTA, we're talking a decade after release.

48:40

Like that's insane. So taking that and applying this logic and like the micro-transactions and all this stuff, like, yeah, there's, it's a slippery slope that they are sliding down.

48:50

Yeah. Yeah.

48:52

I mean, I think it's, you're not wrong.

48:54

Malcontent Ronan in terms of, Hey Zynga in terms of acronyms actions, right?

49:00

Like they're there. I mean, you can, you can probably call them pioneers in terms of like mobile monetization and how that has gone over the last decade and how that's grown.

49:08

And like in a lot of ways have, has been predatory in a lot of ways has been pretty egregious in terms of, oh yeah.

49:14

Pay-to-win pay to continue pay to do, to do anything.

49:17

Even though you're downloading a free game, I don't necessarily see that invading the like take two's console space.

49:25

I've you see that stuff persisting in the way that it already persists on Zynga or for Zynga on the mobile side of things.

49:31

Right. I don't think take two by Zynga and goes, all right, now let's fix your monetization.

49:35

No, they buy Zynga and go, cool.

49:37

Let's keep that monetization because you guys are making money.

49:40

This is why we're buying you for $12 billion with a B that makes a lot of sense that like they find ways to translate their already existing IPS on automobile and figure out how to take those same monetization techniques and apply them to take two's IP.

49:53

I think that that is inevitable. And I also think it's a thing that pretty much any big publisher, any big company that is making the transition to mobile probably has to reckon with, to some extent, I think, you know, w w we're seeing, or at least we've seen reports of PlayStation doing the same D doing a similar shift in terms of getting their games or their IPS on mobile.

50:14

They've been hiring people to work in that division and figure that out for them.

50:18

I'm sure for them, there's going to be a big, there's gonna be a big effort to figure out what does PlayStation monetization look like on mobile?

50:26

And you're probably going to see things that you're not super happy with.

50:29

If you're a PlayStation fan out there, right? You're going to see games that you're going to see probably God, God of war or your horizon, or whatever, whatever IP that you like, translate it to mobile.

50:37

And then you're going to see monetization monetization in those games in ways that make you go, ah, shit, really horizon.

50:42

You're doing this horizon. I think that's inevitable.

50:45

I think even for the companies that we've mentioned already, that already have mobile strategies, you've probably seen those there as well, even Nintendo who I think historically when you're talking about microtransactions and you're talking about like the, the shit that we look at and like blue boxes, all this shit that we're like, oh, gross Nintendo being the ones that historically even stay away from those things.

51:07

There are some cases with Nintendo on the mobile games.

51:10

Yeah.

51:10

Fire

51:10

emblem

51:12

heroes. I forget the name of the, of the Gallia lost.

51:15

Yes, exactly. John Gallia losses when I was thinking of, right.

51:18

Like, you know, there are things here and there that you see in those games that you wouldn't historically see or traditionally see from Nintendo on the console side.

51:26

I think that stuff is inevitable because that is what the mobile market is.

51:29

But I don't look at this, take two acquisition of Zynga and go, ah, shit.

51:35

They're going to, they're going to fuck it takes to you or not.

51:38

It takes you, sorry. Take to interact, man. I see why that lawsuit took place.

51:41

They're gonna, they're gonna fuck take two interactive. It's like, no take you interactive.

51:45

Already kind of has a lot of their own shit going on with NBA two K.

51:48

And even with GTA online, when you look at the transactions there as well, I think it is what it is.

51:54

And you know, it's, it's a thing that we're going to have to kind of deal with in the, on the mobile side of things.

51:59

Sadly, now it's time for kind of funny.com/you were wrong.

52:04

Appreciate that. Agnostic also mentioned that civilization is all is also already on mobile.

52:32

The full sip six game is on mobile.

52:35

So thank you for that. Very good at your wrongs right there.

52:37

And then Timmy buddy comes with a confirmation that paramount indeed does not own south park, but they own all the distribution, distribution rights of the series, Trey Parker and Matt stone, who created it still own the rights to the characters and everything in the south park universe.

52:51

So there you go.

52:54

But it that latest update is Kevin and I have been trying to get subtle for, like, the base shakers in the seats for all of them, which is awesome. And they're in there, but now I need to cable them all up. This might be question for Kevin. But, like, at what point at what point do you, like, install some 4DX type shit in there? Right now, like, maybe most of this work in your feet. Yeah. What I mean, I that'll never happen because, like, I I don't think anyone but me loves that stuff. Mhmm. But, like, he's got everything you need because it's the he's got the butt shakers in there. It's not what they're called. But Base shakers. Base shakers. But and, like, that's a game changer. Yeah. And And I don't understand why I was talking to, I was having this conversation about I don't understand why. I was talking to I was having conversations about this. Don't compare I having this conversation this weekend. Because, like, somebody was like, yeah, you could pass through a teenager. And I'm like, I don't wanna why? I don't understand what it is. You're the young face? What is my young face? You see, what do you you got a young face? Nothing could come out. It's your limbs. You know? You think it's my lips? Felly lot too skinny? Every time you go to lunch in the future with me at the new studio, you don't order an Apple juice, gonna go, like, why aren't you drinking an apple juice? tastes great. It's like a cider. I said, here's the thing. Here's the thing. What do you go do you when you go out to lunch, do you order beer flavored water? No. Because, like, beer is the thing you you save for when you go out and drink, and then you have the option to drink cider. When you're out drinking. That's the thing. Like, Apple juice is great. I don't know what shade it throwing at juice. I don't mean to talk shit about AJ. It's just what I mean, what is you're saying they taste great. So I'm just like, okay. What next time you want a milkshake, get an apple juice. Like, when you're talking about, like, you're not a milkshake, when you're taste great. Beer tastes nasty is the point here. You gotta refine your pal. This is why really thinks you order off the kids and not you. Yeah. Right. Don't don't like it bigger than when band's right. Be out here underwriting the kids menu first of all. Oh my god. You get toys with that thing. Story number one. What? You guys acquired Zynga. This is daniel partis at games industry dot biz. Tim, that's that's a lot of money. Twelve point seven billion dollars. Yo. And, you know, to put that in context little bit, like, Jeff, wasn't Star Wars sold to Disney for four billion dollars four billion. That's three Star Wars. That's one when they said I was like, they can't be right. Like, is there anything always, like, fucking going, like, Like, the closing or some shit. I feel like every other week, it's like, oh, it's closing. You see sega? I don't know about that. I don't know about that, you just said. Yeah. No. I mean, that sounds like very Kevin thing to know, though. Yeah. Kevin's like early visiting a building. He's like, okay. Now you could buy and you kind of funny studio. But the Sega building in downtown, and stuff did close, but the Zincibility never closed. I don't think And they're different buildings. They're like it's just to be extra clear. Alright. But for real? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Take that out. Take that out. Plus, let me ask you a question. Uh-huh. Zynga. Right. What comes to mind? What games does Zynga make? What comes to mind is the era of Facebook when, like, applications and games are dominating. Right? Farmville Like, was Katy Crush Singer? I know that's King. It was does. Yeah. It's like, well, I mean, like, Yeah. The Facebook games come to mind, honestly. I'm sure, like, plenty of minutes. It's the interesting thing. The mobile game is works with friends. It's like the big one. And, of course, there's there's none other big ones, but it is interesting because, like, securing this, I feel like a lot of us are, you know, kind of not that into that world. So we hear it all. We just associate King and Zynga as being essentially the same thing, but they're very much not. Like Zynga, this is way more like you were saying that Facebook type stuff that did translate to mobile and a lot of the people playing were playing Facebook games and stuff on mobile devices. So that's kinda interesting. But I do think that that's a key note that this is not King. King is part of Activision Blizzard. So we are now having Take Two, which is another one of the kind of big old, I'm gonna gobble you up motherfuckers. And Activision kinda going head to head in in interesting way where Zynga and King are kind There's some parity between them. Even though they do slightly different things. But at the end of the day, what they both do is make a shit ton of money over and over and over for, like, low hanging fruit type stuff. So this isn't surprising, especially as we move into this era of cryptocurrency and what that means for video games. Like, I don't think it'd be a surprise that this is kind of a first step towards that shift four, take two, which that's gonna be something for everybody to deal with. But I also think that this is probably then continuing to leverage their IP in different platforms, especially on mobile. Like, we've already seen GTA get put on to every mobile device imaginable, you know. And, like, so many different ports, so many different ports. GTA Trilogy, CMTA is in those games. Exactly. So it's it's not like they're a stranger to to putting things on mobile platforms. But I do think that, so far, they haven't done though, like, what do we think of mobile games? Like, when the gotcha stuff and all that, they haven't done that as far as I know. And at very least, they haven't done it successfully. Yeah. And I this is a this is a huge move for right? When you look at that, that specific figure of take two expects mobile to comprise over 50% of net bookings for fiscal year 2023, compared to the estimated 12% in 2022, Right? When you look at that that specific figure of Take Two expects mobile to comprise over fifty percent of net bookings for year twenty twenty three compared to the estimated twelve percent in twenty twenty two. Right? They're looking for mobile to be a huge part of the strategy going forward. And you mentioned them already having put the original GTA games on right? This strikes me as them trying to figure out how to translate their current IPS into mobile Right? This strikes me as them trying to figure out how to translate their current IPs into mobile IPs. And that's the thing that even Strauss all they can say in one of the quotes floating out there from their investor call. Right? He says here quote, Perhaps most importantly, we have the ability together and talk about talk about Take Two and Zynga from both a development and a publishing point of view to optimize the creation of new titles based on Take Two's core intellectual property. When you talk about core intellectual property for Take Two, you're talking about some big games. Right? You're talking about GTA. You're talking about Borderlands. Talking about a wide array of games. And, you know, you mentioned GTA being on platforms. The GTA game that has seen plenty of platforms now is GTA five. Right? And that is the one game that isn't on mobile. I can easily easily easily see them going. right. GTA five is one of the most profitable games ever at this GTA five is one of the most profitable games. Ever at this point. We've put it on every we we either put it or are putting it on every major console platform out there. How more can we can we proliferate? Right? What else can we put this on? How can we continue to push GTA online? I mean, mobile is the next step. Whether that is current GTA online, or whatever GTA Online is for the future, whatever GTA six inevitably comes out. Well, bless you know what's interesting too. Obviously, GTA 5 is is online specifically great things to pull out there. But what else does take to own? 2K? What else does this 2K? Not own but make NBA championship. Yeah. Right? So, like, there's there's a lot of possibility for a lot of money to be made from all this. But It is just interesting to look at the list of games from Zynga. I had to try to figure out what the application could look like. Because a lot of these aren't the traditional type of mobile games that we we think of. So I don't know. This whole thing kinda reads to me as kind of distraction and not fully telling the truth of what's going on, I do think it's more trying to get user based and trying to get the Facebook type connections than it is necessarily about making the mobile games like they're saying it is. But we'll see. And also, Zynga does make games, someone in the China saw earlier saying that they're working on Star Wars Hunters on the Switch. So it's not like they're just Facebook games or just mobile games, but they do make quote unquote real games. So Yeah. I don't know. And one more thing I want quarter. What I want to pull from Strauss Zelnick as quote, I wanna pull from Stratzonic well. as well. Right? And he's it's him talking about some of the properties that they're working with. Right? I'm pulling from a IGN article written by Jill Scrubbles, who writes quote, Our labels are home to some of the most iconic brands in the world, including Grand Theft Auto, which we've talked about, Red Dead Redemption, midnight Club, NBA 2K, like you mentioned, Bauschock, Borderlands, Sid Meier civilization, mafia and and Kerbal space program, end quote. And, like, you know, Some of those I can see, some of those is like, okay. Do we are they going to make a a Moe version of Moffi? For example. Right? That seems like a bit furtherfetched thing. But who knows? Maybe they did the remake last year or, I guess, two years ago at this point. We're in twenty twenty and wild. They made that remake and put it wild. They made that remake and put it Right. And so it's not like they're not thinking about And so it's not like they're not thinking about mafia. Interesting that they say midnight club, that's the one that kind of sticks out there is like out of all those games, midnight club hasn't been around for a long time. Why do you really consider midnight club an actual key property for Take Two? I think that's such an interesting one if they're out there. I don't know if means anything, but interesting that they mention it. But yeah, like you say, right, NBA 2KI could see how translates. I can see, I can see, especially translating that to a mobile strategy, how you can double down on that in order to sell that translates. I can see I can see especially translating that to a mobile strategy, how you can double down on that in order to sell players. Sell, like, points allocated to your players. Not play to me at two k my my creative player, so I don't know how exactly how that works. But knowing what the conversation around me at 2KA lot of the times is, it seems like there's a lot to Microtransact there on the in the in the mobile space. And so I wouldn't be surprised to see that. Civilization, I guess, even things like Herbal space program, I'm sure there are ways you can translate that to mobile and other platforms. So we're to make that a bigger deal to more players that maybe won wouldn't play it on console schools. And so it's very fascinating stuff. Like, billion. That's an amount of money that you're not going to put twelve billion dollars, that's an amount of money that you're not gonna put to waste. And so I expect to see expect for this to be a huge shift in strategy for them. I think it could be what you're talking about right in terms of, hey, yeah, let's put let's get our foot in the door of Facebook and, you know, have those connections that Zynga has as company. But I also think it's that two-fold thing of let's do that and also like figure out how to really take advantage of the money we can make by translating the IPS that we have to a company. But I also think it's that twofold thing of, let's do that and also, like, figure out how to really take advantage of the money we can make by translating the IPs that we have to mobile. Yeah. Absolutely. Tim? I got something exciting I wanna talk about. And that is from software's next game being the return of armored core. This is story number two. I'm pulling from Andy Robinson at video games chronicle. From Software's next armored core game has reportedly been confirmed via a consumer survey. Reset era user, RedLiquorish, claims on Saturday that he'd received a a survey from the Eldon Ring and Dark Soul Studio, which seemingly reveals the first details on the next unannounced mech combat game. The unnamed installment, which would be the first full armored core title since twenty twelve, is set to feature a sci fi world created by Hitachi Miyazaki with three-dimensional dynamic action and a high degree of freedom and customization. Quote, the game is a third person shooter, Mecha action title. That lets you move around an overwhelmingly scaled map that represents a unique sci fi world with dynamic mech action the alleged survey reads. Quote, you'll face strong enemies in fierce battles both long and short range using weapons, using guns, and blades, end quote. The synopsis for the game reportedly sees government or sees the government corporations, cultists, and unknown mercenaries battling over an alien substance that can, quote, drastically advance human society end quote. According to the user, quote, the boss fight looked quite soulsy The long range gunfire reminded me of ritual on. That's my favorite reference. I'm not a mech fan and haven't played any armored core games. The player character in a white mech went in close to the bigger robot boss and fought with a with like an energy or laser sword, this looked soul style end quote. The user continued to say, quote, the field gameplay, the player in in the same white mac seemed to be following a couple of other players in distance. Co-op question distance co op, question mark, and they're walking flying close to the ground maybe through a snowy area towards either a large wall gate. This seemed solely to the vastness of the architecture, but it wasn't a gate. This seemed salty too. The vastness of the architecture, but it wasn't castle. More like a worn down metal slash Stonewall or castle more like a worn down metal slash stone wall or gate. It was quite short end quote. Tim, what what is your take here on this armored core game from from software? I mean, yo, this is kinda hype. Right? Like, this could I think that this is the best chance armored cars ever had to succeed. And what a fucking story, man. More sayings out there, I'm sure, ready to ride in an questions. As he's asked about when we're going to get a new armored Corps for a bazillion years here at kind of funny, but I, I love that we've known that they've been working on an Armand core questions as asked about when we're gonna get a new armored corps for a Brazilian years here at kind of funny. But I I love that we've known that they've been working on an armored core game. Like, it was announced a long time ago or at least, like, in the background it's been being worked on. But it now coming from from software after this success in the rise of souls that we've had in the last decade. Like, I think that, you know, to say that souls has become a genre of own. It's like almost its own, it's like almost ridiculous. Like, it is so much more than that at this point where it's just like souls games are such a Zynga, and it it's been proven by things like Sephora winning game of the year. Doesn't even need souls in the name. People understand what it is. You know, they they know what it means to be a blood born, to be dark souls, demon souls, all this stuff. So to kind of take that and apply it to Armed with Core, I think is brilliant because it allows different type of gameplay. In the same way the second world was a little bit more action focused just like blood borne compared to the the souls games. Mhmm. Army Corps allowing, like, a little bit more focused on lasers shit. But also like they're describing here having that the up-close Malay sword, laser sword type and shit, but also, like, they're just driving here, having the the the up close melee sword laser sword type shit. I think this could really work. And guess what people love Max? And people love souls games, and people really love Miyazaki. So you put those things together and like, yo, that's not only the best chance armored core, has to be relevant, but it's the best chance Army Corps has has to be good. And this has the potential to be a game of the year type contender, if done right. That's crazy. I can't believe I'd ever say that about an armored core game, but, like, that's pretty cool. Yeah. Like you said, it's it's crazy when you say that about armored core. Right? Not that armored core, previous armored core games have been bad or anything like that. But it's more so the thing of From software, since releasing whatever the last armor core game was, what, during, like, the PS3 era, I imagine kinda funny dot com slash you're wrong. They've they've risen to new Echelon developer. Like they have, they have made a name for themselves in a way that goes beyond like, oh of developer. Like, they have they have made a name for themselves in a way that goes beyond, like, oh, yeah, from software. They're that we're that there's that studio that we know for making cool action games that have in each audience. Now being that developer where this year, they have one of the most highly anticipated titles in Eldon Ring. Right? A few years ago, they had a game of the game awards, game of the year winner in Sekiro Shadow's die twice. Right? Midway through the last generation of games, they had blood borne, which plenty of people would probably considered to be one of, if not the best Playstation exclusive title on the platform. Right? The audience is that passionate about it. To be that studio and to be able to come full circle and go cool. Now after putting out demon souls and putting out dark souls, putting out Sekro and putting out elder Ring, know, what do we wanna do next? You know what? Let's go back to one of our no pun intended, one of our core titles in armored core. And let's bring it back. Let's take the learnings that we've had over the last decade. Let's take Mizaki who is proven to be one of the best lead directors in the industry right now. And let's put him on this title that, you know, unlike Eldon Ring isn't necessarily a new IP. Eldon Ring has a thing of, it's essentially a a successor to dark souls. Right? It OpenWorld. It's speaking to the, from software audience in that is open world. It's speaking to the from software audience in that way. And don't think it's gonna be hell successful because it. Armored core has probably a lot of the same things in terms of, Hey, this is from it. Armour Core has probably a lot of the same things in terms of, hey, this is software. This is me, is software. This is Miyazaki. You know, the fan base is gonna rock with this, but also It's an IP that you know. It's an IP that plenty of people want to see return. It's an IP that is different from everything else that we've made. And from software, they proven that when they make something that's different from what they what they made before. They still they they still know how to adapt their their design sensibilities to make it good. Right? Bloodborne was different from dark souls yet bloodborne still hit. Seguro was even more different. Seuro still hit. Right? Eldon Ring is gonna be open world. We'll see if that hits. I I am confident that that's probably gonna hit. Right? Like, After all of that, seeing them work on armor core, which probably couldn't possibly be even more different. Man, I can't wait to see how they do it and to see them possibly knock it out the park. Absolutely, man. I mean, looking here, armor core five seems to be the last core title. This was released back in twenty twelve on the PS3 and three sixty. There's a couple spin offs after that. But, yeah, that's a it's a long time, man. And I feel like this is a a great shot for them to potentially just completely reboot it and change what the franchise is and means to people. And, yeah, it's the most the the highest potential for the most audience they've ever had. And this game can speak loudly to people. Like, I haven't talked to Eddie about this, and I haven't seen his reactions, but I can only imagine he's stoked out of his fucking little mind about this because you're gonna get out of the Cortez, mix, and from software, like, with what that means nowadays. Like, it's so funny because, like, this is where it it all began. Right? From software with armored core, but it just means something different now. So I liked it. From software means something different now, what could that mean for armor core now? And I think it could mean something really damn cool. Now does this speak to you when this armor core game comes out? And look, as as I asked this question too, Kevin, if you can bring up the screenshots, because over on I think was red and or some website might have been reset era. It looks like screenshots had been uploaded. Yeah. Reset era. Screenshots from the consumer survey have been uploaded. And the screenshots very low quality because I think this person was trying to scrub out the watermarks that are on it. So you can't really see things too clearly, but it is a taste of what this armor core game might look look like based on the consumer survey. Tim, is this something that Mike speak to you? I mean, dude, I love Bec's. So why not, man? I I interested. I remember the almond core soundtrack kicking ass and like Mexican kick ass soundtracks go a long way for I'm interested. I remember the armored horse soundtrack kickin' ass. And like, next and kick ass soundtracks go a long way for me and add on a quality game. Like that's, it's exciting for game. Like, that's it's exciting for sure. Yeah. I'm the I'm the same where, you know, Meckx in theory really speak to me. Right? And I of course, I love things like Malo Gear and even near Etame, but I had, like, Meckx, it's in and shit. Oh, the Anders. Zone of the enders. Right? And, like, III I've never played a mech game that is specifically an armored core like mech mech game, where it is, hey, no, you are controlling the mechs. You playing this that I tried, haven't necessarily stuck with me. Like, I tried out Damon ex Makena when that came came out. And it just it just did not stick with me. And so, like, you know, III think I'm in the the circle of people who are like ready for something to come through that like I get hooked in into. But, like, I just haven't had that come by yet. And so, like, I really hope that this is this because, like, you know, again, from software, talented developer, developer that I've grown to love now and, like, I think if anybody's gonna do well, it's it's gonna be them. Oh, so I cannot wait for it. Tim, you know what else I can't wait for? Before I get into story number three, Tim, there was a new trailer that popped up this morning. Then I watched that I don't have you, but I don't know if you saw this one. A trailer for Bel Air. I have not seen it yet. I haven't pulled up. And after the show, I'm gonna watch it. Wait. What is it? It's the Fresh Prince reboot. Yeah. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air reboot. Dark. But it's, like, gritty. Yeah. And I watched the trailer halfway through the trailer. I, like, I felt like was losing mind. Really? I was laughing at it. Yeah. I oh, you laugh. might watch it. I was laughing because it said that watching it feels like you're watching a parody trailer on YouTube that, like, a fan made of like Well, what if we took this, like, popular thing and, like, made it gritty and, like, recontextualize certain bits as, like, oh, this is fucked up now. That's that's what I was saying. Yeah. That's what that's how it came to be. Someone did that and watched show. And will Smith saw that and was like, let's turn that into a show, but it's not even a show. And Will Smith saw that and was, like, let's turn that to a show. Well, I think that's exactly what happened. Will Smith was like, yeah, that's a idea. idea. I think he Your other show, Will Smith's involved it? Kopra's executive producer, baby. You gotta watch that shit. Yeah. Stay tuned. You know that. Right now. He just made that up. There's no way that's true. No. Look at any episode. We'll submit Accredited. Like, R. Will Smith? No. I'm not going to look at any episode ten. See you? You're not R. Will Smith. The Will Smith. Mean, that's he's my he's my I'm not talking about games I'm not talking about games industry, Will Smith. I'm talking when I say my Will Smith, I mean, Fresh Prince Biller, Will Smith. Yes. That Will Smith. Because Yeah. Because of the crowd he could read it with his kid. Oh, shit. Holy cow. Holy cow. All connected. That's wild. That No. No. gotta watch this. I feel like I'm not I I know I normally would fuck with you guys. I'm not fucking around with this. That's what I got. Man, I'll consider g. I'll even even if this is, like, shit. What? Nothing. Kevin. Kevin. Oh, damn that. I love you so much, Kevin. You think, Kevin, even if it's like a public paracal type shit, Even even if you do it on, like, your own personal Instagram, I need you to, like, reliably react to this stretch for this trailer is all I'm saying. I need to I need to see your re or just take reaction. Just let me know, because I have a lot of thoughts and reaction. Just let me know because I have a lot of thoughts feelings. It's all over the place to feelings. It's all over the place. Tim, you know what else is all over the place. This episode of KFCD. Let's get back on track with story number three. Sources say Sony has switched the twisted metal reboot developer. This is Andy Robinson at video games chronicle. Playstation has changed its plans for the in development twisted metal reboot sources have told VGC. Last year, VGC reported that a new car combat installment, which by release would be the series first in over a decade. Has started early development at the Liverpool UK based destruction of all star's developer, lucid games. However, video games chronicle has been told that the project has since ceased development lucid. And according to sources, Sony has decided to instead move the series revival to one of its first party studios in Europe, Sony interactive entertainment and lucid games did not immediately respond to a request for lucid, and according to sources, Sony has decided to to instead move the series survival to one of its first party studios in Europe. Sony Interactive Entertainment and lucid games did not immediately respond to request for combat. It's understood Sony still intends to bring back the car combat series in time to coincide with an upcoming TV series in twenty twenty three, and early work has begun at the unnamed first party studio. Sources did not provide an explanation for the change in developer. However, one person suggested that the poor reception to lucid's PS five title, destruction All Stars, could have contributed to the decision. Tim, where are you at with this one? You know, it's a bummer, man. Twisted Metal is very similar to me to Firefox in so many ways, and that I love it so dearly and so much. And I just don't have any hope that we're ever gonna get anything that touches Star sixty four or twist to metal black. And at some level, that's fine. We have those. Those aren't away. I can always go back to them and get my away. I can always go back to them and get my kick. I do think Star XOXO sixty four holds up a hundred percent. And I can stand by that because I played through it recently on the switch OLED with the or not not OLED with the online. On my OLED. And with twisted metal black, it's like some of the things that I loved most about it were the kind of edge Lordy kind pushing the battery shit that are probably cringey and embarrassing now. But when I was like twelve years old, hearing sweet tooth say motherfucker was the coolest thing in the world. So I don't know what a modern twisted metal could look like to satisfy me. But I'm hopeful and I wanna see it. Like, I think Joseph Metals are very cool franchise with cool ideas. I did not like the PS3 version of it because it script away what I like most about, which is the characters. Mhmm. And they they, like, powered that down, like, ridiculously. But, yeah, this this news is not surprising. I guess at the end of the day, I'm a little happy because I didn't like destruction all stars from little I played and it is kinda that thing I always talk about, like, with Smash Brothers and the PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale, you're gonna do the thing, just do the thing. And they didn't quite do it they were just like, yeah, it's like droosomesllal, but it's not and it's a it's a different type of shit. And then hearing that they were working on droosomesllal. It's like, okay. Well, didn't really get it right the first time. So I don't know. I also don't think that they fucked it up that bad. So it's interesting to see where this is at gonna land. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up just not happening and getting canceled somewhere along the way. The fact that they doubled down and officially talked about the TV show at CES a couple days ago. Yeah. Surprising to me. Like, I'm what the hell is that gonna be? I hope that it's good. I think it has even less of a chance of being good. You can say that it stars Anthony Mack me? No. didn't. That's cool didn't. That's all that's all news. But yeah. Like, from the the variety. I think the snaps, this is out there for like what the story set up is it's him I think the synopsis is out there for, like, what this story setup is. It's him essentially, I think, delivering a package in the twisty metal universe. And in my head, I contextualize that as, like, this is a this is a very specific reference, but, like, a combination of Mad Max and the movie thirty minutes or less, I don't know if you've seen that movie. I have. Yeah. The movie is a little bit about the pizza delivery driver. He gets a bomb strapped to him. I I think it might be a meeting of the middle somewhere in there. And if that's the case, think potential. I think that could sound, I think that sounds kind of potential. I think that can sound think that sounds kinda fun. Anthony Mackie, I think, is a funny dude who, like, I wanna see in more comedic roles I hope is that it could it could be gritty. It could be like serious and gritty. I don't necessarily want that from a twisted metal Anthony Mackie series, but if they if they lean into into sort of the camp of it and the goofiness of it, I think there could be something cool there. I think the interesting thing about this news is that the TV series, the upcoming TV series, is due in twenty twenty three. And if a studio is in like the beginning processes of making this game, What does this game look like coming out in twenty twenty three? So, I mean, that that's the interesting thing about this though, is that a twisted metal game I think ironically, less is more with it. Like, I feel like it being a smaller title is actually the best chance it actually succeeding. Because the thing about it is at its core, it's a multiplayer game. And what a multiplayer game means in twenty twenty two or three is very different than what it meant back on the original play stage. Right? Two to the middle two is one of the most iconic multiplayer games of all time, but that was for a very different time. Now there's different expectations. And I think that the twist of Middle Peace three game really came out at a a fascinating time of trying to redefine what multiplayer can mean in that PS three era, but it totally didn't stick landing. And that was at a time when multiplayer was being redefined by things like call of landing and that was at a time when multiplayers being redefined by things like Call of Duty. So where we're at now for a twist of metals to succeed, I don't know that that's possible, like, on a major big level. So don't put this out as a big AAA game. Put it out as something smaller. Like, I'm not even necessarily saying free to play. I think even more like the twenty thirty dollar type of title that because I'm putting that price tag, there's an expectation it. to it. Right? I think that could work, and I think that wouldn't require as long of a development cycle depending on what they make the game. Like, if they just go back to what it used to be and what you're saying even about like sticking with the campiness of it all, like, think they could make something fun, like a more, like, retro nostalgia kind of game as opposed to. We're trying to redefine multiplayer. multiplayer. Yeah. Also, John Bob, stab and Chad mentioned the show is being written by the Deadpool and zombie zombie land guys too, which I think led me down that line of thinking of, oh, yeah, this has or can be has to be more goofy. And I'm right there with you that making a twisted metal game in twenty twenty two or twenty twenty three is a it's a task. Right? Like, there are so many questions that pop up of how do you make this work? If it's an online game. If it's an online only game, what are the modes that need to be in there to make it work? It doesn't need to be just deathmatch. Do you do you need to make an objective base? Do you have to take cues from, like, a like an Overwatch or a, like or even a Fortnite or, like, something that is, doing it right right now in terms of this is how you make an ongoing game in twenty twenty two. Right? Like, what cues do you need to take? I don't know how you do that with a car based game, like a car combat game because we don't have many examples of that type of game that's out there killing it right now. I mean, there's rocket league. Right? But that is that's soccer. Right? That is that is a sports game at its heart. They call That's that's that's not me. I didn't but then you didn't need to bless. You didn't have to do that. You brought that to this blessed show. Okay? It didn't it didn't feel right Zynga lot. Be automated. I didn't I didn't I didn't like it coming out of my mouth, but hey, here we are. But, yep. Hey, Kevin liked it. You know, rocket league kinda kinda has it, but that's kind of a different thing. Like, if you're if you're focusing in on what makes twisted metal, twisted metal, it has to be destruction, it has to be combat, and trying to make that work. Character. I'm telling you guys, this is what's the character. This is the special. It's the characters. It's the wackiness and the backstories. And you like, the one thing to mean that they need to nail on top of the gameplay and stuff, because the gameplay will translate to to multiplayer if you just get it right. But what they need is investment in characters and story where I want to play through the very short campaign with multiple characters because I want to see their midpoint story. Their endpoint story. It's an old type of nostalgic gaming that we don't see too much nowadays. But as the industry kind of matures and grows, and the definition of what is retro moves with that. Mhmm. The idea of two d platformers being retro is over. Like, tuning platforms retro tuning platforms are now as common as anything else that there's just a genre. Yeah. You know? Like, they're just tricky platforms. They're just back. And I feel like now it's kind of going to that next step. And I I do think that they can make it towards metal work again as a smaller title, but just understanding the core of what people actually latched onto in the first place. Apocalypse cal and chat says character, which you Hey. Hey. You're always over. Hey. There you There go. My one other question too is who is working on go. My my one other question too is, who is working on this now? If it's not it was if it's not lucid, then what European PlayStation CD is working on this. I look at the list of European PlayStation CDOs. Right? And we have x dev, which is a sports studio. They're not doing it. Nixis, which is a poor house. Right? They push it to PC. They're not doing it. Medium molecule, which I I hope you're not doing it. I wouldn't think Meta Molecules doing it. Right? How smart they're not doing it? games. They're probably not doing games, they're probably not doing it. That brings us to you Fire Sprite and London Studio. London Studio has already been working on a multiplayer title for little bit. There was a a job posting that went up I think last spring now that they're looking to hire people to work on APS5 multiplayer game. And so unless unless they're somehow doing both or they put that title on pause to work on this. I don't know if they're if they're working on this, but it's a maybe. Right? It's maybe. And then the other being Fire Sprite, could be a to content contender. Historically, they're doing VR games. Right? And they are working on the newly announced Horizon game that is coming out for PSVR two. And so it seems like they're pretty busy, but they're also a really studio. I believe they're Sony's biggest European studio at this point or one of the biggest European studios for Sony at this studio. I believe they're Sony's biggest European studio at this point or one of the biggest European studios. For Sony at this point. And so, like, hey, maybe they have the bandwidth to also work on a console twist and metal game as well. But It seems like it's it's between those two. And if I hadn't guessed, I'll probably guessed firespride for the size of that studio. And so we'll see we'll see about that one. Let's round out the report report with story number four. This is a rumor. Paramount has reportedly signed a deal with epic games to bring characters fortnight. This is Jacob at Fortnite Fortnite This is Jacob at Fortnite News. Only twelve days after it was revealed that Microsoft is working with Epic Games to bring characters to Fortnite. The same source has shared information of a similar deal with Paramount. According to the latest Xbox era podcast on YouTube, Paramount has signed a deal with Epic Games that will allow multiple characters to be added to Fortnite as wearable outfits. During the podcast, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were mentioned as the main characters that Epic were introduced to the game. Hell yeah. With the newly signed deal between Epic paramount. It's likely that more than just the teenage mutant ninja turtles will be coming to Paramount, it's likely that more than just the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be coming to Fortnite. It's worth noting that Paramount owns spongebob's iPads, Avatar's last air bender, and many more characters that could all potentially be added to the game. In the future. So take that all with grain of salt. But it it sounds like a thing. Right? It sounds like it sounds like it makes sense. Hang, lighting down would be so cool. For aang holding a submachine gun. You know, less cool again. I mean, they've they've given more ridiculous character guns in that game. Right? Like, why inspired him running around with a block in his hand? Yeah. Does it sense. sense? Kevin, who who are your kind do you have a main or, like, do you kind of alternate between couple? I have seventy five, like, pre built characters that I put together. Wow. That that it alters in between. And I'm very excited when I get any number of them. But, like, I don't know, like, Some of my favorite ones are like characters that don't like, they're not real characters that just made by Fortnite. But I also I'm a huge fan of, like, getting Terminator or Ironman or Seguarni Weaver from aliens. Yeah. What about like, when you get to meet Donatello, is is that gonna is that your end game? No. Fuck you. Well, I mean, no. I I would I would I'm probably at some point gonna deleting the generic ones that are made by Fortnite that don't hit as hard for the characters that I like more like your Superman's or Spider Man's. Mhmm. Rick and Mortise. God, there's so many good ones. And it's and and the games can we play for so long that we see a lot of those people too. Like, I'm getting a I'm getting a good mix of those those seventy five pre belts. We can go up to a hundred, I think. So I'm gonna keep building With this Paramount deal, give me I Carlin. Give me give me what I want. Yeah. I Carlin would have gotten in her hand, going through a gun and down spyder to manage it. I'm also I'm on the Paramount plus home page right now just to see, like, okay. What are the things that they're pushing? And You know, it's a mix. It's a mix. There's that there's the new South Park special. I can be down for some South Park in Fortnite. I don't know how the day does that work? No. With the Art Style. Paramount. Is it? I mean, the the the post COVID special is on the Paramount Plus. Like, it's very expensive. They have a deal with them. Yeah. But, like, They don't own it. They don't own the rights of the characters. That's what I'm saying. I think that's Gotcha. Gotcha. There's a Clifford, the big red dog. That's on paramount. Sure. Sure. That's He's been hunt. That would be fired. Yeah. Even though it would be great in 49I honestly could see that happening for the next one. One in status inside. Yeah. It's the possible seven. That actually makes a lot of sense. That lines up. Hell yeah. Tim, I cannot wait to see what Paramount characters get added into Fortnite, but That's probably just so far away. If I wanted it was coming out to mom and drop shops today, where would look? Now at this time, for reader mail, remember you can go to patreon dot com slash kind of funny games. We can get the show ad free. You can write it with your squad up, but you can also get your questions read on the show just like mal content Ronan did. Ronan writes in and says, hey, guys. And this is all this is all the way back to the two k or take to Zynga acquisition. I always recall hearing how the worst microtransactions, in fact, belong to the NBA 2K series. I say they belong to Zynga, which pioneered predatory microtransactions with Farmville creating the concepts of pay to win and pay just to keep playing. Seeing them undertake to you may result in nothing, but it also could easily result in pure evil. Kim, what say you? Dale. I'll love your evil. I mean, like, you're not wrong, but like, Damn. Would you put it like that? Yeah. I mean, look, this is kind of something think we're gonna see a lot more, and we've already seen a lot, which is kind of the conglomeration of different monetization strategies where when you have the IP, your IP is only worth as much as you can sell it for, so find a bunch different ways to sell it. And make as much money as humanly possible from all of it. Take two are huge. Right? Like, we were saying earlier, like, all the different IP that they have, like, just counting NBA, two k, and GTA. We're talking about two games that are on the top selling list every month. Doesn't matter what month of the year it month. Doesn't matter what month of the year is. And you know, in the case of GTA, we're talking a decade after it is. And, you know, in the case of GTA, we're talking a decade after release. Like, that's insane. So taking that and applying this logic and, like, the March transactions and all the stuff. Like, yeah, there's it's a slippery slope that they are sliding down. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I I think it's you're not wrong. Malcolm's and Ronan in terms of, hey, Zynga, in terms of micro transactions. Right? Like, they're I mean, you can you can probably call them pioneers in terms of, like, monetization and how that is gone over the last decade and how that's grown and, like, in a lot of ways have has been predatory, and a lot of ways has been pretty egregious in terms of, oh, yeah, pay to win, pay to continue, pay to do ever to do anything. Even though you're downloading a free game, I don't necessarily see that invading the like take two's console even though you're downloading a free game, I don't necessarily see that invading the, like, take two's console space. I do see that stuff persisting in the way that it already persists on Zynga. Or for Zynga on the mobile side things. of things. Right? I don't think Take Two buys Zynga and goes. Alright. Now let's fix your monetization. No. They buy Zynga and go. Cool. Let's keep that monetization because you guys are making money. This is why we're buying you for twelve billion dollars to be. That makes a lot of sense that, like, they find ways and to translate their already existing IPs on on to mobile and figure out how to take those same monetization techniques and apply them to Take Two's IP. I think that is that is inevitable. And I I also think it's a thing that pretty much any big published or any big company that is making the transition to mobile probably has to reckon with to some extent. I think, you know, we we we're seeing or at least we've seen reports of Playstation doing the same doing Zynga similar shift in terms of getting their games or their IPs on mobile. They've been hiring people to work on in in that division and figure that out for them. I'm sure for them, there's gonna be a big it there's there's gonna be a big effort to figure out what does Playstation monetization look like on wall and you're probably gonna see things that you're not super with. If you're a PlayStation fan out there, with if you're a playstation fan out there. Right? You're gonna see games that you're gonna see probably got got of war or your horizon or whatever your whatever IP that you like. Translated to mobile, and then you're gonna see monetization in those games in ways that make you go, oh, shit, really? Horizon. You're doing this horizon. I think that's inevitable. I think even for the companies that we mentioned already that already have mobile strategies, you've probably seen those there as well. Even Nintendo who I think historically when you talk about micro transactions and you're talking about, like, the the shit that we look at and, like, loot boxes on this shit that we're, like, oh, gross. Nintendo being the ones that historically even stay away from those things, there are some cases with Nintendo on the mobile games. I think heroes. Yeah, fire emblem heroes. I freaked name of the of the Darkaliya lost. Yes. Exactly. Darkaliya lost is what I was thinking of. Right? Like, you know, there are things here and there that you see in those games that you wouldn't historically see or traditionally see from Nintendo on the console side. I think that stuff inevitable because that is what the mobile market is. But I don't look at this take to acquisition of Zynga and go, oh, shit. They're gonna they're gonna fuck. It takes you. Oh, or now it takes you. Sorry. Take to interact. Man, now I see why that lawsuit took place. They're gonna they're gonna fuck Take Two Interactive. It's like, no. Take Two Interactive already kinda has a lot of their own shit going on with NBA 2K and even with GTA Online when you look at the transactions there as well. think it is what it is and, you know, it's it's it's a thing that we're gonna have to kinda deal with in the on the mobile side of things, sadly. Now it's time for dot com slash you're wrong. We write a list of what we got wrong, as you got it wrong, so we can correct it for those watching later on youtube dot com slash kinda funny games. So thank you for that. Very good. You're wrongs right there. And then to me buddy comes with a confirmation that Paramount Indeed, does not own South Park, but they own all the distribution rights of the series. Tree Parker and Mount Stone, who created it, still own the rights to the characters and everything in the South Park universe. So there you go. Damn it. There you go. A lot of money in their pocket.
