In June 1970, Nancy Dean Morgan, a 24-year-old federal VISTA volunteer working in the Shelton Laurel community of Madison County, North Carolina, was found dead – nude, hogtied and strangled in the back seat of her government car at the end of an old logging road in the Pisgah National Forest.
