Groundbreaking Women in Sonoma County

Do you know

who the first woman to achieve elected office inSonoma County was? The woman from Sebastopol who pioneered environmentalstudies? The woman from Santa Rosa who led the national effort to recognizewomen in history? Do you know their stories?

2020 is the centennial of the ratification of the 19thAmendment, giving women the constitutional right to vote. While different ingoal and origin, the recent #MeToo movement and women’s marches also representpivotal change and the power of the collective voice to challenge the statusquo. The Museum of Sonoma County’s upcoming exhibition, From Suffrage to#MeToo: Groundbreaking Women in Sonoma County, explores the changingexpectations, challenges, and obstacles to inclusion that women have faced andthe remarkable people who have broken through the barriers. Over a dozen women willbe highlighted in this exhibition, including:
