to a severe water shortage, private toilets havebeen banned, pay-to-pee public ones are owned by the Urine Good Company, andviolators are sent to Urinetown, a mythical penal colony from which they neverreturn. But the spirit of pee-for-free rebellion is afoot. This satiricmusical-comedy created a splash in 2002, grabbing ten Tony nominations andwinning for Best Book for a Musical and Best Original Score. It takes aim atthe justice system, capitalism, bureaucracy, politics—and public toilets.
Don’t be scared off by the title, this is satire at itsbest. Prepare to laugh until you…
