On hand, Geri Avant and John Hart, at that time writers and editors for the Church-owned LDS Church News tell how they heard the news and then went work telling this momentous story to the world. Geri later became the Church News editor and John assisted her for more than 30 years. Kimball had been spending countless hours in the Salt Lake Temple alone in prayer and study, as he explained, to learn the Lord's mind and will. When the time came, he presented to the other leaders of the Church, the other two members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of Twelve Apostles who affirmed unanimously that all worthy male members could from henceforth receive the Church's Priesthood and participate fully in its ordinances.
