What does it mean to lead yourself? For the purposes of this podcast we are going to define it as getting yourself to do that which is best for you. It is evident that we face challenges everyday and have to make decisions, solve problems and overcome difficulty. It is also evident that we don’t always make the right decisions. Or we arrive at the right decision but fail to execute it. Often there is an internal dialogue that takes place on what should I do and how do I do it. We have all been in a situation where we asked ourselves what should I do? In that moment you were looking for an answer, looking for guidance, looking for leadership from within. Why else would you need to ask that question? You are trying to figure out this thing called life. This podcast explores that process and seeks to identify key virtues that will help you achieve that which is best for you. However, this is not in a selfish sense as it may sound. It is not a self-help podcast in the current sense of the term. This content is definitely focused on the kingdom of God. As disciples of Christ we are to seek first the kingdom of God. Seeking implies we don’t have it figured out, we don’t have all the answers and we are in pursuit to know more. In this context, leading yourself is inextricably linked to following Christ. Every leader must first learn to be a good follower. There is no better example of a servant than Jesus Christ. We are called to imitate Him, to be a disciple of Him. In following Christ we learn how to lead ourselves. I believe this is the right progression. Following Christ enables and empowers you to lead yourself in a righteous way. In the way that Jesus paved before us. Hopefully that gives you an idea of the content for this podcast. Lead yourself gives us an umbrella to talk about a lot of things, we have a wide range to deal with which I am excited about because we can go in many different directions. Sometimes we will discuss a leadership trait, sometimes share personal stories, and who knows what else. But the overall purpose is to stir your heart and really just be a catalyst to your relationship with God. Maybe shed some light on a topic or offer a different perspective. The real help comes from the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that it was better that he go, better that he leave because he sends us the Holy Spirit. He sends us the Helper. Look to him for the help you need in navigating each day. He is ready and able to help us with whatever life brings our way.
