You look at the night Sergey had, gives up

0:05

four goals. What was your thoughts

0:07

about his play, the play in front of him? And then when

0:09

you look at game three, yes, there's still time.

0:12

Is Sergey still the choice going forward or has

0:14

tonight given you something to think about? I don't

0:16

know. I'll sweat about that one. For the next two days,

0:20

we can be a little better in front of our goaltender. He's

0:22

been unbelievable for us. So I

0:24

got him out to keep him rested. Steve

0:29

sludge is brought to you in part by 241pizza.com. Try

0:42

There is less than a 0%

0:45

chance that Sergey

0:47

Bobrovsky does not start game three. I would

0:49

agree. I would agree. That

0:51

was a bold-faced lie that we were told

0:54

there by Paul Maurice.

0:56

Yeah, I definitely... Look,

0:59

we talked about it a little bit with Dreggs. We're going to talk

1:01

about it in a moment also with Mike McKenna, former

1:04

NHL goaltender and NHL

1:06

analyst.

1:07

It wasn't all Bobrovsky last

1:09

night. Yes, the team put up... They

1:12

allowed seven goals, but guess what? That

1:14

was split between two goaltenders. So clearly

1:16

the problem wasn't the crease. It was what was going

1:19

on in front of those goalies, not

1:21

really giving them a shot, just

1:23

leaving them out to dry on numerous... We

1:25

just talked about in the last segment or in

1:28

Stay or Go, that Brett Howden goal, he was

1:30

all alone. Yeah. All

1:32

alone. Who had Brett Howden? Nobody.

1:35

Defensive coverage, a breakdown. Look at Marcioso's goal. That

1:37

Jack Leico... Similar to Marcioso off the bench, no

1:39

one grabbed him, and all alone.

1:41

So there's been multiple, multiple

1:44

instances. I don't know if Sam Bennett

1:46

was at the end of his shift there. I didn't watch that

1:48

close on the Brett Howden goal, but he

1:50

was ahead of Howden

1:52

in the

1:54

offensive zone for Florida.

1:55

And then by the time Howden crossed the offensive

1:58

blue line,

1:59

he was behind him. So I don't know if he was at the end of a shift and

2:01

just couldn't catch him or if he maybe took a lazy

2:03

first couple steps and couldn't get back. But yeah, Brad

2:05

Haddon was all alone. So your point on Bob

2:07

Hrobsky is correct. But I just, I don't see a world

2:10

where he doesn't start game three. I even go back to

2:12

the sound bite from Maurice

2:15

in the Boston series. I forget exactly which game it was,

2:17

but he got asked about his decision to start Bob Hrobsky

2:19

and not lying. He said, this is a pressure game.

2:22

That's what Bob's here for. He's our guy

2:24

in these situations. That's the contract.

2:26

This is what he's paid to do. This is what he's paid

2:29

to do. And guess what? You're down

2:31

O2 in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

2:33

You're gonna lean on the guy that's paid to be in those

2:35

situations. He's going back into that. Yeah,

2:37

I don't think that there's any question. It's

2:40

just posturing, just absolute lip service

2:42

from Paul Murray. So again, it was expecting the

2:44

Lion King to be between

2:46

the pipes and start game three. But I don't

2:49

know, we'll see what ends up happening. Mike McKenna will join us

2:51

in about a moment here and we'll get his thoughts

2:54

on what's going on.

2:56

But I gotta tell you, so I did gameplay

2:58

yesterday

2:59

and producer Josh and I had

3:01

a little wager going, a friendly

3:04

bet. And we took

3:05

the two goaltenders

3:07

and it was the prop was under, it

3:10

was 29 and a half saves.

3:11

So

3:12

I didn't feel good about Aiden Hill's number.

3:14

He didn't feel good about Bob Hrobsky's number. Clearly

3:17

he was right about Bob Hrobsky where that

3:19

guy gets pulled after what, 13 shots. I

3:21

think he made nine saves in the game. So that

3:23

one hit. I was sweating that

3:26

Aiden Hill prop. Sweating

3:28

it hard because.

3:30

Our bets even fun if you don't have to sweat them

3:33

a little bit. Oh yeah, they are actually. When

3:35

Jonathan Marshisso scored early and

3:37

I cash at any time March, he'd go, I felt

3:39

great about it. I don't know what you're talking about. I

3:41

felt good, but I was sweating that Aiden Hill save. That's never my

3:44

experience when I make a boyger. And he finished I

3:46

think with 28 saves last night, the under

3:48

hit, I felt good. We're

3:50

both wrong ultimately, but

3:53

at least we're both wrong and not one of us was

3:55

right. Because I'm a terrible human being and

3:57

that's, I'll bring everyone down with me.

3:59

at the show it's your syndrome i

4:02

was pretty unlike the cat a former and chill goaltender

4:04

n h l analyst for daily face

4:07

off also uh... serious x m what's

4:09

going on mike how are you

4:10

may have been great i think it appears often

4:13

see in media man cross-passed on the

4:15

ice now afterwards yeah i don't know it's good

4:17

to be back in work in the desk your thousand brother

4:19

for a little bit of least lunch their score on mike

4:22

home and i don't remember uh...

4:24

probably not guarantee that probably

4:27

i think that's a foregone conclusion mike

4:30

fun actually funny enough i was just checking out your hockey

4:32

d b and and you might be the one x

4:35

pro hockey player that has more teams played for

4:37

that i do uh... yeah

4:39

you know what honestly did you don't even come close

4:42

i'm in the twenties easily i had nine n h l

4:44

t i actually have the n h l record like a job or like

4:46

me like i played less than three dozen games

4:48

in the n h l but dressed games

4:50

for nine teams played for seven your

4:53

closet areas and i think the only other

4:55

guys that address that many for many teams

4:57

rishon berk and ron tugnut and those

4:59

guys have like a thousand games each i have like

5:02

three dozen that's hilarious

5:04

that is that is outstanding

5:06

uh... with mike mckenna you

5:08

know let's get right to it uh... you know

5:11

surrogate bob rovsky was was yankee yesterday

5:13

after allowing for goals to the first half

5:15

of the game uh... and i i

5:18

was perusing twitter and all of a sudden

5:20

i'm looking and i see your twitter

5:23

account pop up

5:24

and you're you're going to back for your guy why

5:27

was last night not surrogate bob rovsky's

5:29

problem why was it what was going on in front

5:31

of them

5:32

the abigail's look at the blown coverage all

5:35

over the ice by the panthers the number of blown

5:38

pinches that they had at the blue line being hyper

5:40

aggressive russia's coming the other direction

5:43

defensemen abandoning the front of the net and given

5:45

the golden i to clear lane to it uh...

5:48

the panthers all defensemen screening the

5:50

broskis their own goal tenderly it just it's

5:52

been across the board that the panthers have

5:55

been completely outclass through two games and

5:57

i thought last night was a microcosm of it

5:59

that you know it it's

6:01

easy to just want to come to going back and sell

6:04

bobs human well yeah

6:06

i mean if you think this is just a

6:08

goal to anything for the panthers yet nothing common

6:11

i will say that though i didn't like the first

6:13

goal on the property last night because i thought

6:15

he was looking on the wrong side of the screen it

6:17

was march stone directly in front of him or johnson

6:19

marshes so or short side as

6:22

a bullet you know you need to be looking on the short

6:24

side that is your side uh... so

6:26

i don't like that one but you know second and third

6:28

goal his own players cross

6:30

in front of him just like they didn't gain one

6:33

like there's no communication or game plan here

6:35

between florida with the goaltender

6:37

in their defense and i think florida's just trying

6:39

to hard to try to block everything but in doing so

6:42

they it's counterproductive so

6:45

you know i think that bob said it stacked a little but i

6:47

will say this though i'm sure when bob

6:49

goes and looks at the tape i think

6:51

you can i think it needs to be a little bit more patient on

6:53

his edges and beat pox on

6:55

his feet i thought he got caught down early

6:58

a couple times last night that led to the goals against

7:00

him not being able to get his eyes on it but

7:02

honestly it didn't matter who was in that for florida

7:04

last night you saw it when alex lion went in he still

7:06

had a couple six saves and allowed three goals so

7:09

not on bob he'll be back in for game three but

7:11

i do think he has adjustments to make

7:13

i like how you said outclassed

7:15

i was just scrolling through your twitter too and you

7:18

had a tweet florida is predictably turning

7:20

this into a mess yeah

7:23

i thought it was a pretty funny synopsis

7:25

there but as a as a former pro

7:27

goalie yourself do

7:29

you think there's any merit to the idea

7:31

that the long layoff leading up to the stanley

7:33

cup final ruined a little bit of bob's

7:36

momentum and i know we're not blaming

7:38

bob as we were just chatting about there's there's

7:40

a lot of obstruction in front of them but

7:42

as a guy who played and had potentially

7:45

long stretches between games how much would that

7:47

have thrown you off especially if you were playing well and in

7:49

a bit of a groove

7:51

yeah you know it can affect guys there's no doubt

7:53

about that i mean but it's such a unique

7:55

scenario right like peter we go to the whole season

7:57

and never spend more than probably three days off without

8:00

playing a game, you know, unless

8:02

you're playing in the Iron League

8:04

and the American League and you play three and three and you take

8:06

four days off and then you play three and three the next weekend.

8:09

That just doesn't happen in the NHL. And

8:11

so, I mean, I think there might be something to that,

8:13

but I really don't think the

8:16

time was as much a factor for him as it was

8:18

for that entire club. When I talked to a couple of

8:20

coaches around the NHL, they

8:22

thought Florida was going to be able to give Vegas a big

8:25

run, but they were nervous about the time off. And

8:28

you know, it's the momentum factor of a team

8:31

like Florida that they've just been on like

8:33

a magical mystery ride here for a couple months,

8:35

man. And it's tough

8:37

to keep that emotional factor going. And especially

8:40

against a team like Vegas, like Carolina

8:42

and Vegas to me are the best two best defensive teams

8:44

in the NHL this season. The difference though is that Vegas

8:47

can actually score and Carolina can't.

8:50

And that's what they're running up against right now. And

8:53

when you can't do the things that you want

8:55

to, when you can't be aggressive on the puck and get

8:57

results offensively, what do you do if you're Florida? You

8:59

try to mock it up. Well,

9:01

Vegas learned very quickly in the Edmonton series.

9:04

They can't get into that game.

9:06

When they did that against Edmonton, Vegas lost their cool.

9:08

They almost lost that series in a couple of games

9:10

because of it. They've learned from it. So

9:13

yeah, I mean, Florida's got a lot of stuff going

9:15

on, but they aren't going back to home ice. So,

9:17

you know, kind of all bets are off once you get back in your own building.

9:20

What have you made of Aiden Hill's performance

9:23

over the course of the last few weeks here? He's rocked

9:25

it up to seconds now in Cons

9:27

Mythod's.

9:29

Yeah, odds are funny. Listen,

9:32

as good as Aiden Hill has been, I am not taking

9:34

anything away from him whatsoever. I've been massively

9:37

impressed with the way he's handled the moment, with

9:39

the trajectory of his game, even from about

9:42

January of this season on. I watch every Vegas Golden

9:44

Knights game. Aiden Hill's been at his best when

9:46

he's played consecutive games. He did it in January. He's

9:48

doing it now in the playoffs. But he is

9:50

insulated well by Cassidy. Last night he saw

9:52

four shots that were above the middle of the net. Like I

9:54

looked at the shot charts after the game at Instat

9:57

Hockey. Hill is not

9:59

facing any. anything beyond pucks on the ice and

10:01

he sticks four for the most part. So

10:04

he's done a great job sealing the ice, he's not flopping

10:06

around as much as he used to. I'll

10:09

say this about the consomai Phil, how

10:12

can you give the consomai to somebody that only plays three of

10:14

the four series? It's supposed to be the most valuable

10:16

player to your team throughout the entire playoffs

10:19

and if Hill had played all four series

10:21

and played like this, absolutely

10:24

he's in the running for it. But I tell you what man,

10:26

I said before the series Jonathan Marshall so it was my pick

10:28

and I've raised a lot of eyebrows, that guy's on

10:30

fire right now, like he can't miss. So

10:33

I'm hoping it makes me look good. I think Hill

10:36

is plenty deserving of all the accolades but

10:38

I do think he's had a little bit of an easier

10:40

insulated game in front of him and he's made good on

10:42

it man and good for him because you know what, he's

10:44

a UFA, he's gonna get paid this offseason.

10:47

So if you're a Bobrovsky, are

10:49

you saying anything to your decor in

10:52

front of you or are you letting them figure it

10:54

out or the coaches figure it out in the video meetings

10:56

or are you standing up as potentially a leader

10:58

in that dressing room and saying guys,

11:01

get out of my way, get these guys out

11:03

of my way. Like what's your take on that? I

11:06

don't know if you know him at all personally, I don't but would

11:08

he be a vocal guy in the room? You

11:10

nailed it, that's the best question you could possibly

11:13

get for this and I do

11:15

know Bob, I was called up to the Columbus Blue Jackets

11:17

because Bob was hurt, that's the only way I ever got to the NHL.

11:20

So I got a laundry list of Ezzinha winning goalies

11:22

that gave me a couple games in the

11:24

NHL and then got me a car later in life

11:26

you know with the money from it but you're

11:29

bang on. What needs to happen is Bobrovsky

11:31

has to talk to his D, to

11:34

his goalie coach to everybody to come up with a plan

11:36

here and what he needs to say is guys,

11:39

give me the short side, give me the outside

11:41

shot, do not cross

11:44

in front of me

11:45

when the player has the puck on the

11:47

stick because if the defender

11:49

can take the far side shot as

11:51

a goalie, if you've got the short side you know

11:54

one pretty much where it's going, you

11:56

also know too that if you give a rebound it's

11:58

most likely going to stay on that field. same

12:00

side where you already have your body, you have defensive

12:02

pressure, and it makes life easier.

12:05

So if that conversation is taking place and they're not listening,

12:07

that's one thing, but I think it needs to be hammered home.

12:10

And that really is dependent on the goalie and the communication.

12:13

That's the reason why in-game, like myself, I

12:15

love to be involved. I would go to the bench and talk

12:17

to my D at intermission,

12:20

I would talk to them at the TV timeouts, just

12:22

to try to have a clear lane of thought.

12:25

I don't think Bob does that a lot. I think he's kind of on

12:27

an island out there. I would like to see him be more vocal

12:29

with his teammates. In

12:32

conversation with Mike McKenna,

12:34

former NHL goaltender, NHL analyst for

12:36

Daily Faceoff,

12:38

you wrote a piece today, actually,

12:40

funny enough, about the Maple Leafs goaltending

12:43

situation heading into next season. How

12:45

do you feel about the shape that the Leafs

12:47

are in? They've got three guys who

12:49

they can look at as the goaltender. Do you think that

12:52

they're sold on two of those three? How

12:54

do you feel like the Maple Leafs should handle the

12:57

goaltending situation this offseason?

12:59

Yeah, I appreciate that. My piece is up

13:02

at DailyFaceoff.com. It

13:04

goes in-depth there, but I'll say this. I

13:07

actually think the Leafs are in a really good spot right now. I

13:10

haven't felt that way for a long time. I really

13:12

didn't feel that way when they brought in Peter Morazic. That

13:15

played out as expected. I didn't

13:17

think Matt Murray was going to be the answer, and it was more so

13:19

just because the guys hurt all the time. I hate that for him

13:21

as a person, as a player, but you can't reliably

13:24

trust on him to be in the crease. I

13:26

think that there is going to possibly be an option. He may

13:28

be an LTIR candidate coming up this year, which

13:30

would actually fix just about every problem, but if he

13:32

isn't, in some way Brad Treliving needs to make

13:34

that contract go away. If he has

13:37

to pay for it to go out the window, if he has to package

13:40

draft picks, whatever it is, I just

13:42

don't think buying out Murray makes sense, though. I wouldn't

13:45

want $2 million against a cap on that contract. I'd

13:47

like to get rid of it via trade if necessary, or

13:49

LTIR. But I'm really bullish

13:51

on Joseph Wohl. You guys saw what he did at the

13:53

end of the season for the Leafs. He had a phenomenal

13:56

year in the American League. He was an all-star

13:58

there. To me, he's proven what he needs to be. two in the

14:00

minors and I think he's ready

14:02

for a bigger role and I'll say this about Woll. I

14:05

worked with him in St. Louis. I coached him while I was

14:07

playing for four or five summers. So full

14:10

disclosure here, I got a little bit of a vested interest but

14:12

I believe in him because I know his work ethic. I know the

14:15

player. I know the person and

14:17

he was on a very similar path to

14:19

Jake Oettinger. That was his teammate in junior

14:21

with the U.S. National Team Development Program and

14:25

Woll got slowed down by injuries and

14:27

COVID and kind of a slow first year in the American League

14:29

with the Marlies. What you're seeing

14:31

now is a real Joseph Woll that I think has the same ceiling

14:34

as a Jake Oettinger in Dallas. And I think

14:36

that the and I think he's

14:39

not going down, man. He'd have to clear waivers. He's

14:41

on the lease next year and the story is on a one-way

14:43

contract. So you take that

14:46

and I think Tree Living gets Samsonov. You try to get

14:48

Samsonov at three years or less if you can because

14:50

I don't want him to be a long-term deal. I

14:52

think you're still trying to figure out what he is as a goaltender.

14:54

He still has technical aspects to clean up but

14:57

a combination of Samsonov and Woll

14:59

to me

15:00

probably get that in like the five, six million range

15:02

tops. That's a palatable number for

15:05

your cap at for two goalies. One of which with Woll

15:07

I think has a really high ceiling and

15:09

I think Samsonov showed well last year. I just

15:11

don't know if you could trust him in the playoffs and that's where I'm

15:13

hoping Woll can take that next step. Well that

15:16

that we had that conversation actually earlier today

15:18

in the show. We were discussing what maybe a Samsonov

15:21

extension could look like. You know high three

15:23

AAV on a three-year term but

15:26

then the question obviously was you

15:28

know how much of the thought

15:30

process behind Samsonov changed

15:32

after the playoffs because all the underlying

15:34

numbers look good through the regular season and all

15:36

the numbers always look rosy for the Maple Leafs in the

15:39

regular season and then the playoff rolls

15:41

around and it's like guys are a little less stellar.

15:43

Like how much of the concern was you

15:45

know the playoff performance of Ilya Samsonov

15:48

for you if you're thinking about locking this guy up

15:50

you know as your goalie the future.

15:53

That's why it means not the goalie the future and I'm being

15:55

very blunt here but

15:57

until I see Samsonov incorporate more structure

16:00

sure to his game. It's

16:02

not going to be there. He will continue to be forever

16:04

inconsistent if he doesn't buckle

16:06

down and get in control and stay between the posts.

16:09

That's just reality and you

16:11

can get away with it in the regular season against some lesser

16:13

teams but against the better teams that's when

16:15

it becomes difficult. So again, I'd be

16:18

betting on WOL to take over but I'm also betting

16:20

that Ilya Samsung off with another

16:22

year where he's felt good about himself

16:25

can continue to grow that game and

16:27

part of that you're gonna have to get a goalie at a reasonable cap

16:29

head. And I think Sam Sonoff

16:31

is probably going right for number one in

16:33

the NHL is four million plus. That's

16:36

what it is. I think he's probably a three-year,

16:38

four-two-five type of guy but that's

16:41

pretty normal and you just have to accept

16:43

that that's what you're gonna have to eat to pay a goalie to

16:46

get a little bit of stability. So yeah,

16:48

I have real concerns about, I actually said in January

16:50

last year that WOL was the best goalie in the organization.

16:52

I had people laughing at me. Well

16:57

we love the fact that the next two

16:59

years he's making 766,000

17:01

which is amazing cap head to be

17:03

able to spread around the rest of your team. So Mike,

17:06

are you saying that the Leafs are in a situation

17:08

where they don't have a clear-cut number

17:11

one goalie and if that's the case,

17:14

is this kind of a situation where there was like the Reimer-Bernier

17:16

thing when I was there like about eight, nine

17:19

years ago and there wasn't really that clear-cut

17:21

number one and if that is the

17:23

case and you're a former goalie, how does

17:25

that land with you? Because I feel like even

17:27

you guys like knowing, okay

17:29

I'm number one, I'm number two, there's a little bit of

17:31

predictability and consistency there versus like,

17:34

okay who's starting tonight, there's no general

17:37

pattern.

17:38

Yeah, well it's real. I mean what

17:40

you described was, I mean that was a big sticking

17:42

point with Toronto back then between Bernier

17:44

and Reimer because they were very much uneven ground I thought

17:46

and it was kind of a, you know, that classic hot

17:49

hand type of thing. Well, I do think

17:51

that the game in the last seven, eight years with goal-tenors

17:53

has gone to more of a tandem approach and

17:55

I think goalies are more open to that. Now that,

17:58

here's the thing though,

17:59

if

17:59

One of these two dudes comes in and just blows

18:02

the door handles off everybody. They need to be the guy

18:04

that starts most games. And I

18:06

don't mind that. I don't mind going into the season

18:08

with open competition to two hungry goaltenders,

18:11

but you really hope one emerges by

18:13

two-thirds of the way through the season. And

18:16

if Murray had been healthy all last year, I think you

18:18

probably would have seen Murray and Samsonov largely

18:21

continue to rotate clear up until deadline.

18:24

Maybe there's some flux here and there.

18:26

But Samsonov eventually won that battle. Even

18:29

with Murray being injured. So I

18:31

just think that goalies today are more open

18:33

to playing that tandem approach than they were

18:35

in the past. But deep down inside,

18:38

we do all want to be number ones. But the

18:40

reality is for a guy like Joseph Wallman, after his first

18:42

year in the NHL, he's happy to be there. He's happy to

18:44

grow his game, whatever he takes. And he'll

18:46

be pleased with it. I'd keep my eye on Samsonov

18:49

in that vein. Yeah, like we all love

18:51

Joseph Wall and what he's done. But

18:53

the Leafs are in win now mode and just

18:56

optically,

18:57

what does it look like if that's your number one

18:59

guy at some point in the season?

19:01

I don't know. Do you go out and

19:03

get Connor Hellabuck for one year at six million

19:05

bucks and then you're back to square one a year from now?

19:08

Do you go get John Gibson, who's a reclamation

19:10

project, who hasn't? I

19:12

would never trade for John Gibson right now watching

19:14

a technical game. Like you can't honestly,

19:17

there's still this huge group of GMs out

19:19

there. And I see it every year in these polls, I think

19:21

he's just an awesome goalie on a bad team. And

19:23

from a technical standpoint, I'm going, do you see how

19:25

many times, like his time on but per 60,

19:28

which is not a status track, which I think should

19:30

be, is through the roof, man.

19:33

Like that's not a guy you wager on. I'd

19:35

rather run with a young goaltender with

19:37

more upside in a technical approach than

19:40

somebody for me at the reclamation project. Because

19:42

you just had one in Matt Murray.

19:44

Actually, I do want to pick up on you mentioned Connor

19:47

Hellabuck. I'm curious to get your thoughts. Which

19:49

team around the NHL do you think could see

19:51

the biggest bump if they

19:53

land Connor Hellabuck, if he in fact is

19:56

on the trade market this summer? Pittsburgh

19:58

Penguins. Done deal. and

20:00

the story and it's I love Tristan

20:02

Jari.

20:03

I love him,

20:04

but he hasn't been healthy. And I don't think

20:06

that that combo with the Smith and Jari is giving

20:08

that team a lot of confidence. You bring Hellabuck in,

20:10

you know you're getting 60 games played, you're

20:13

gonna get rock solid goaltending. He

20:15

would change the entire dynamic of that franchise. Yeah,

20:18

that was a pretty quick answer.

20:20

Yeah, well he could talk to the LA

20:22

Kings in the mix. You could talk to the Edmonton Oilers in

20:25

the mix, but I think Pittsburgh is really the one that

20:27

he would do the most help for.

20:28

Yeah, I mean Kyle doesn't mind, you know,

20:30

making some deals. So I could see that being

20:33

a big thing. And last year he rolled the

20:35

dice on a couple of goaltenders. He might

20:37

be able to roll the dice one more time. That's

20:39

a really actually interesting name because if

20:41

they do get good goaltending, that's a playoff

20:44

team. And if that team makes the playoffs, well

20:46

who knows what's in, you know, and company. You

20:48

can't rule those guys out.

20:50

No. That's right.

20:51

Appreciate it. As always, Mike, love

20:53

chatting with you and hopefully we can do it again soon.

20:56

You got, that was a ton of fun guys. Peter, great connecting

20:58

with you, man. Thank you so much guys. Yeah, you as well.

21:00

There he goes. Mike McKenna, former NHL goaltender,

21:03

NHL analyst for Daily Faceoff.

21:06

Certified good guy.

21:08

Yeah, he's always great. I

21:10

love when he comes and comes on the show. I remember

21:12

we talked to him though, like maybe

21:14

it was when Joe Wall made his debut

21:16

like last year

21:17

and maybe it was after the shutout that

21:19

he had or something. But I remember him telling us

21:21

that he had a relationship with Joseph Wall and he

21:23

was high on Joe Wall.

21:25

And at the time it's like, wow, what has he really done?

21:28

Up until this season, he

21:29

hasn't really shown anywhere near

21:31

to the potential that

21:33

everyone always talked about him being. Like

21:35

he said, he's on a trajectory similarly

21:38

to like Jake Audinger. And like that

21:40

guy is

21:41

a number one. Like he's a top five

21:43

goaltender in the NHL at this point. Doesn't

21:46

mean that Joe Wall's gonna get there, obviously.

21:48

We're talking about a guy who has 15 starts

21:50

in the NHL. Yeah, I was just gonna say, he's

21:53

got 15 games. I was about looting the playoffs

21:55

this year. Yeah, I was about to make a point about

21:57

a bit of a coming out party, but I don't even know if that's

21:59

accurate.

21:59

No, like you need you need

22:02

to see a lot more a lot more because I look

22:04

I've I I got burned

22:06

last year Okay, I it's not that

22:08

I was all in but I was sold that

22:11

Campbell Campbell was the guy after

22:13

like November Remember how good Campbell was the

22:15

first two months of last season like the guy legitimately

22:19

on Before we left for Christmas

22:21

break Jack Campbell

22:24

was the con I was the the Vesna

22:26

front-runner

22:27

On Fandwell. Yep,

22:30

Vesna. Yeah, and I was like give

22:32

this guy a contract You do sign

22:34

them five by five get it done Kyle.

22:36

Let's go and I was told

22:38

by noodles multiple times

22:41

Hey, let's not get over. You know,

22:43

he hasn't played a hundred games in the NHL yet

22:45

Too small of a sample size to make the the

22:48

full

22:49

You know full scope of things to make

22:51

a proper valuation

22:53

to get and you had to give an eight-year deal on

22:55

here Right and turns out

22:58

you know doodles knows a thing When it comes

23:00

to goaltenders because coming back off

23:02

that Christmas break or that Christmas covid

23:04

hiatus that the NHL took last year

23:07

He was statistically the worst goaltender

23:09

in hockey. Yeah the last,

23:11

you know, January onward. Well at the best

23:13

though Well, it's great talking with

23:15

with Mike McKenna too because getting that goalie

23:18

perspective is interesting I especially on the

23:20

chatting about the Marcheso goal because all

23:22

we've been chatting about is just traffic in front

23:24

of the net But with with his perspective

23:26

of what Bobrovsky was actually looking on the wrong

23:28

side of the guy Expecting his view and

23:30

he should have been taking the short side. So I thought that was

23:33

interesting. Absolutely But that's why you get

23:35

these guys on right there. There it is

23:37

here. I never I'm

23:40

I actually

23:41

one time in my

23:43

life have I played goaltender and it was in a ball

23:45

hockey game I don't know. Have you ever played goaltender

23:47

ever like growing up? Did you have the pads on

23:50

house? When I was like six years old, okay

23:52

So the one time I ever do it was in a ball

23:54

hockey league. I got lit up like nine goals So

23:56

that was that was the end of it. That was

23:58

the end Like my goaltending

24:02

experience is very, very slim. So

24:04

guys like Mike McKenna, we get him on and

24:06

he tells us what's up. Cause he knows. You're

24:08

not able to, you know, chat about talking

24:11

to your defenseman in the middle of a play where you want

24:13

them to be. No, no, no, no. I was

24:15

more of a rugged stay at home type

24:17

of guy, as you could imagine. I was more

24:19

my, my play style. Yeah. Yeah. I can

24:21

talk about Luke Chan a little bit, a little more,

24:24

a little more like him than I would

24:26

say a Joseph wall.

24:27

But I hope that wall turns out to be a terrific goaltender.

24:30

I mean, there seems to be, you know,

24:31

there's a lot to like, a lot to like there.

24:33

The technical game was sound

24:35

like when you were watching Joseph wall play.

24:38

You very, he's

24:41

not, he doesn't move around a hole. No, he's

24:43

very quiet. Stable in his net. He's quiet.

24:45

He's got great puck control as well.

24:47

The pucks don't really seem to hit him and bounce off

24:50

into dangerous areas,

24:51

which I know that you like as a defenseman.

24:54

And he's super poised. Like for a guy

24:56

who played a dozen games in the NHL

24:58

to be in that situation that he was in

25:00

and

25:01

to be so poised, it was

25:03

just really surprising to me. And then that's what you

25:05

want in a goaltender. I also really like his

25:07

demeanor just from watching some of the interviews

25:10

and that he's done post game or

25:12

pregame, whatever it may be, he

25:14

just comes across as very relaxed

25:16

and self-assured and he just looks, it seems like a

25:18

guy who goes about his business and isn't too concerned about

25:20

what's going on around him. And I think as a goalie, that's

25:23

a really strong

25:24

character trait. Yeah, for sure. For

25:27

sure.

25:27

That's going to be, you know, again, next year's

25:29

goaltending situation. I believe

25:31

it'll probably end up being Samsonov and

25:33

Joe Wall. They have to figure out the

25:36

Matt Murray situation. Obviously, like

25:38

you said, if he goes on LTIR, that does solve a lot,

25:40

a lot of the problems, but I don't

25:42

know. I don't know if that's if that's going to be

25:44

in the cards. Go read his article, by the way. It was really

25:46

good up on daily face off. He wrote

25:48

about more in depth that you can read about

25:51

his thoughts on the Leafs goaltending situation.

25:54

All right, we'll take a break on the other side.

25:56

We'll get to our Tuesday Stock Exchange.

25:58

Two up, two down.

25:59

And that's coming up next. I'm Mike DiStefano with Peter

26:02

Holland. You're listening to Leafs Lunch here on TSN 1050.

26:05

LeaseBusters will get you out of your cart lease today. It's

26:07

as easy as pie. A piece of cake. Avoid penalties

26:09

and early termination fees. Visit LeaseBusters.com.

26:13

I'm Mike DiStefano. I've got Peter Holland

26:15

in here with me today.

26:18

And we're going to

26:20

be doing our Tuesday stock exchange

26:22

in just a moment here.

26:24

But I've been thinking about this LiveTour

26:27

situation where we got the PGA and the Live

26:30

kind of combining. I'm just seeing like some of these

26:34

tour players

26:35

tweeting about it and how shocked they are

26:37

about this whole situation and how they found

26:39

out on Twitter. And like how does that even happen?

26:42

Could you imagine if you were in the NHL and

26:45

all of a sudden you didn't get a heads

26:48

up from the PA or anything and all of a sudden you're

26:50

reading on Twitter the NHL and KHL

26:52

are combining into one super league?

26:55

I know. How would you react to

26:57

that? Well,

26:59

which guy would I be? Because if I was the guy

27:01

who left to the KHL for $100 million and

27:03

then the leagues came together and I was the guy who

27:05

stayed potentially on the... Yeah, that's

27:07

going to be a dicey situation. There

27:09

was one of the PGA guys tweeted

27:12

out. I forget who it was. Ben On maybe?

27:14

Yeah. He was like, how much for a live feed

27:16

of the players meeting at 4pm? Oh, would I ever pay

27:18

for that? What would I give to be a fly

27:20

on the wall in that meeting? What

27:23

would you give?

27:24

I would have also paid some money.

27:26

I don't

27:27

know. Like how much of a... Yeah. Like

27:29

if you could do a pay-per-view and you wanted a live

27:31

feed. I'd pay a hundred bucks for a pay-per-view for that. I think

27:34

I would too. I'd also pay another $100 to

27:36

get a live feed of Rory McIlroy's

27:38

face when he read the release this morning. Yeah.

27:42

Yeah. It really

27:44

threw me off too. I was

27:47

not expecting for this and it's funny because it's

27:49

so perfect for Overdrive because they're down

27:52

at Oakdale. They had the Canadian Open going on this weekend

27:54

and OD and Golf Talk

27:56

Canada who was live when the

27:58

announcement was made. made the

28:01

breaking news and they're on location

28:04

down at Oakdale Golf Course for the tour event

28:06

this week. I could just imagine the buzz

28:09

man. Maybe they can sneak into the room. They

28:11

might be able to. I should end up grappling.

28:13

Be like, dude, get yourself as close to that room

28:15

as possible. Just even

28:18

to see some faces walking

28:20

out of that room. Yeah, that's what you- Blood

28:22

drained out of their face. Just jail. Because

28:25

people just absolutely just

28:27

depleted. I don't know. That's going to be a really,

28:30

really interesting situation to

28:32

follow. I'm going to have to read more into it. It sort

28:34

of just broke as we were propping to come on our

28:37

show. Yeah, I don't know everything. Yeah, we're going to have to

28:39

get some more specifics. But

28:42

what a shocking event in the sports world.

28:44

Yeah, I would imagine, like you said, OD's

28:46

down there right now, live

28:49

onset of the tour event. So I'd imagine that they'll get

28:51

some more information. So tune

28:53

in at four o'clock to overdrive if you want to find out

28:56

what's going on there. If it's the case. With

28:58

the live tour and PGA combining essentially

29:00

coming up with some sort of agreement. Yeah,

29:02

like if it's the case that the live players

29:04

can now play on the PGA as they

29:07

wish,

29:07

and they initially left for their 100 million, $150 million

29:10

bonuses.

29:12

Yeah, that's like getting your cake. They got to be

29:14

laughing. Getting your cake and eating it too,

29:16

and then eating it again and again and again.

29:19

It's unbelievable. You're going to have guys

29:22

like Cam Smith and guys like

29:24

these dudes who legitimately made $100 million.

29:28

Brooks Kepka, Bill Mickelson, Dustin

29:30

Johnson, Cam Smith. With essentially

29:32

it's like, okay, one year you can't go on the tour.

29:34

You can do all the majors, but you're not going to be

29:36

able to do the tour events. And then all of a sudden it's like, actually,

29:38

yeah, we're going to lie to come

29:41

back. Yeah. Like, what? I'd be

29:43

so angry. So angry

29:45

if I was an average Joe

29:47

who decided to uphold the

29:50

morals and not go to the Saudi league and

29:53

cash in. And then ultimately it didn't

29:55

matter. It didn't matter. They ended up, you

29:57

know, getting your $100 million for because.

29:59

Yeah, that's tough. That's

30:01

gonna be an interesting thing to keep track

30:03

of. All right.

30:05

That being said, let's get to our

30:08

Tuesday Stock Exchange.

30:30

I love when a random Simpsons

30:32

clip gets tossed into these things. I

30:38

always do find it very, very funny.

30:41

Shout

30:41

out to producer cheese for throwing that together. 100%. The

30:45

great tones of the JBL,

30:47

John Bradshaw Layfield, his entrance music.

30:50

It's a good sting.

30:52

All right.

30:52

The subject of today's Tuesday Stock Exchange.

30:55

Looking at two guys who have seen their

30:57

stock rise to the first two games in the Santa Cup final. And

30:59

two guys who've seen their stock take a bit of a dip

31:01

here. Take it a

31:02

dip. Why don't you start? Who are

31:05

a couple of dudes who you've got their stock

31:07

creeping up? Well, first

31:09

and foremost, barbershop.

31:11

Yeah, I can't say enough good things

31:13

about this guy right now. The style of play

31:15

he's bringing to the table for Vegas at this point

31:18

of the season is what you need. That meat and

31:20

potatoes hard to play against

31:22

using his

31:23

big frame to throw his weight around.

31:26

I mean, this

31:27

guy's due for a for a pay bump

31:29

here pretty shortly. And oh, yeah, I think he's

31:31

he's really making a really strong name

31:34

for himself.

31:35

Six goals, eleven assists, nineteen games

31:37

played, seventeen points. He's a plus thirteen. And

31:41

when he makes a body check, it's

31:43

pretty devastating. So

31:45

big, big stock up for me on Ivan Barbershev right now. Yeah,

31:47

one hundred percent.

31:47

I think that's

31:50

that's a guy who definitely has seen his stock go up. Another

31:52

one that I think his stock is

31:55

rising and it started to in the last series, right?

31:58

It started to against Dallas. that

32:00

he's continued it and the stock is now soaring

32:03

as high as it ever has and it's Jonathan

32:05

Marshaso. This guy's stock, he

32:07

went from being, he was fourth or fifth

32:09

maybe in terms of consmith odds on FanDuel,

32:12

he's now the front runner to win

32:14

the consmith. We're talking about Jonathan

32:17

Marshaso as the consmith

32:19

winner potentially. Right now, leader in

32:21

the clubhouse.

32:22

That's how much this guy's stock has risen.

32:25

His last 12 games, Pete, 12

32:26

games, he's got 12 goals. It's

32:28

like in the playoffs. Imagine

32:31

Austin Matthews was doing that. Everybody would

32:33

be talking about, I feel like nobody talks about

32:36

this guy. He's a very underrated

32:38

player in the NHL. He's been doing

32:40

this for a long time. That's what

32:42

I think too. And look, the revenge

32:44

narrative was built in. This is why

32:47

I was very, very high on Marshaso

32:49

going into it as one of the dark

32:51

horse MVP guys, someone who maybe

32:54

could even lead the series

32:56

in scoring. I've got a couple of wagers placed

32:59

on both of those things and

33:01

it's looking good because he's out there and he's

33:03

playing some excellent, excellent hockey. And

33:05

it's just like, he's just a finisher, a pure

33:07

finisher. Yeah, he's a great shooter. And

33:10

I mean, he's got, he scores over 25 points. Florida

33:13

just like let this guy go. Tampa

33:16

too, Tampa had him in their system. He

33:18

came through like the Syracuse Crunch NHL and

33:20

then went to Florida and then

33:23

Florida was like, yeah, we want to keep Alex Petrovic

33:25

in the expansion. Take this Marshaso guy instead.

33:28

We'll also give you a Riley Smith. Oh,

33:30

look at that. It just set somewhat

33:32

of the foundation for years to come

33:34

for the Vegas Golden Knights. It's unbelievable. His

33:37

last year in Florida, he had 30 goals. And

33:39

they were just like, take him. How'd you go? Take

33:42

him, take him. We want this sixth defenseman. I think that might've

33:44

been one of the guys they didn't protect and they're just sitting

33:46

there with both their fingers crossed going, please. No,

33:49

so what happened was, I, but 98% sure

33:51

this is what happened. So

33:56

they wanted to keep extra defenseman.

33:59

So I believe they wanted to keep Alex Petrovic.

34:01

So they said to them, we're going

34:04

to keep, uh, Patrick is going to stay

34:06

exposed because they were keeping other defensement as

34:08

well. And they said, he's going to remain exposed.

34:11

That said, don't take him, take

34:14

Jonathan Marshall. So, and by doing so,

34:16

we'll also trade you Riley Smith. Right.

34:18

I believe was how it went. Okay. So

34:21

they literally said to Vegas, take

34:23

Marshall. So this is 30 goals

34:26

for we want you to have him. That was the only

34:28

that's the first time that he had did score 30 goals.

34:31

Like Marshall. So was Verhage before

34:33

Verhage, right? Well, like

34:35

essentially, yeah,

34:37

but to replace Marshall with Verhage.

34:40

Yeah. Who also went through Toronto's and

34:43

Tampa system. Funny enough. But

34:45

yeah, Jonathan Marshall. So that guy stock is climbing

34:48

way, way up. The other guy for me,

34:50

Aidan Hill. Yeah. I mean, can't say enough good

34:52

things about this guy. Essentially, Vegas

34:55

is fifth string goalie

34:57

and he's playing really, really well.

34:59

And the other thing I love about him, he's getting

35:01

in on the physicality. Yeah. You see that when

35:03

guys are around his creases whacking him, Kachuck went into

35:05

his net the other game

35:07

coming out. They're both exchanging slashes.

35:09

I just, it's like a little bit of Ron Hextall.

35:11

Yeah. It's, it is a lot of fun to see, to

35:13

be honest. I, I do like

35:16

what goalies get into it a little bit. Yeah. You

35:18

know, and, and, and, you know, some guys that

35:20

shakes their, their competence a little bit when they

35:22

start getting antsy and they start getting, they're not focusing

35:25

and you can look at it that way. For me, it

35:27

seems like he's dialed in more. Yeah. He's

35:29

getting after it. Like you see some goalies where there's scrums

35:32

in front of the net. They take that lap into the corner.

35:34

Yeah. He wants nothing to do. He wants to stay

35:36

right there. He's like, he

35:38

took a jab to Kachuck last night.

35:40

Kachuck, you know, they were going at it a little bit. And

35:42

then as he was skating away, just made sure nice

35:45

little jook right in the side of the

35:47

side of the body. They always feels good with the goalie,

35:49

goalie paddle getting whacked across.

35:52

Yeah. Big, big stock up there for Aiden Hill.

35:54

For me, I'm going to go, I'm going to go a little down the

35:56

board here. Somebody

35:58

who's really impressed. to

36:00

be not just in this series but also

36:02

throughout the playoffs but Zach Whitecloud.

36:06

Like Zach Whitecloud was a name like I don't

36:08

think he was a household name by any stretch of the

36:10

imagination before these playoffs started. There's

36:12

a lot of fairweather fans now

36:14

that know Zach Whitecloud, know what

36:16

he's all about, scored a goal in the first game and

36:20

he's been excellent, excellent defensively

36:22

as well for these Golden Knights. He saved a

36:24

goal in the first game as well.

36:26

Like he truly is somebody

36:29

who is starting to make a name for himself as

36:31

one of these young up-and-coming goaltenders

36:33

or defenseman in the

36:35

league who's just a steady

36:37

stay-at-home guy. That's what I was gonna say. The word

36:39

steady comes to mind when I think of Zach Whitecloud

36:42

and he's just he's

36:43

so reliable back there and he's a big

36:45

body 6'2, 207 pounds

36:48

I have unlisted here and he uses every

36:50

pound of that to box guys out and finish checks

36:52

in the corners and I really like what he

36:54

brings to that lineup. 100%

36:55

stock

36:57

down. What

36:58

do you got? Stock down. I gotta

37:01

go with the Florida D-core

37:03

and if I'm gonna pick one guy specifically

37:05

and again I'm nitpicking a little

37:08

bit here but Gustav Forsling there

37:10

was an instance last game I forget specifically

37:12

which period it was but he looked a

37:14

little timid going back for the puck

37:17

and quite frankly I

37:18

don't blame him because of just how physical

37:21

the games have been and guys are getting smoked

37:23

all over the place but you're in the Stanley

37:25

Cup final and when you're going back for a puck you got to make

37:28

a play with it because if you don't

37:30

the other team who's forechecking they're gonna turn that

37:32

puck over and they're gonna start attacking your net and next

37:34

thing you know you're spending 30 seconds in your own zone

37:36

and so I just noticed on that instance Gustav Forsling

37:40

looked a little hesitant and so stock

37:42

down for me there. The moments getting a little big for

37:44

him? I don't know if the moments getting a little big for

37:46

him or he's just hearing footsteps because of

37:49

the size of the hits that are out there so

37:51

I'm nitpicking when I'm when I'm picking on

37:53

Gustav Forsling but I think the Florida D-core in general

37:55

we've chatted about at length here just

37:57

being better in front of Bobrowski. Yeah they did

37:59

great job of clearing the net in the first

38:02

and second or in the second and third series rather

38:04

against Toronto and Carolina

38:06

not as good as a situation

38:08

here and because of that the other guy

38:10

who I think stock is turning down is Sergey

38:12

Bobrowski. I mean it's it's

38:15

it's pretty evident we're sitting here thinking okay this

38:17

guy was unbelievable for about three

38:19

weeks there hit a 954 say percentage

38:22

through the second and third round 826 say

38:25

percentage right now through the first two games

38:27

here that's a big fall from grace

38:30

you know he went from being a guy who the stat

38:32

thrown out there was he saved 19 and a half goals

38:35

saved above expectation well

38:37

now he's allowed 2.6 goals above expectation so you

38:42

know we're seeing a situation here

38:44

where maybe the bubble is bursting a

38:46

bit here on Bobrowski and if that's

38:48

the case I don't think this team stands a chance

38:51

to be with you his save percentage

38:53

was astronomical it was

38:56

it was 954 yeah it was through nine

38:58

games the rounds two and three so I think

39:00

there's something to be said for reverting back

39:02

to the mean a little bit here and coming

39:05

back to life yeah you would hope that that

39:07

means you know 913 yeah not 826 not 826 you

39:11

know like that's what happened with with

39:13

say with Jack Campbell last year right

39:16

where yeah at the end it ended up as like

39:18

maybe a 9-11 say percentage but it's because

39:20

yeah it was 930 for the first half of the year

39:23

but he was an 880 guy the back

39:25

half of this right and in wrong

39:27

time of the year to be going in the wrong direction right

39:29

and that's now in fairness you know he was

39:31

he was putting up those sick numbers at the right

39:33

time of the year as well but now we're in this tailgate cup final

39:35

and unfortunately more needs a little bit more

39:38

now more the only other guy that I want

39:40

to throw it here too is is Sam Reinhardt

39:42

just because he was somebody who really impressed

39:45

me through the first couple of series

39:47

here I thought that he was really effective against

39:49

the maple Leafs that third line as a whole

39:51

scored a couple big goals also in the Carolina

39:54

series but hasn't quite made

39:57

his presence felt in this series

39:59

at

39:59

I don't think still hasn't

40:02

gotten a point so far through the first couple of

40:04

games has been on the ice for a couple of goals against.

40:06

So Sam Reinhardt, someone who I think stock has

40:09

has been trending downward a little bit

40:11

here. That's fair. And

40:13

he's on the ice quite a bit like he's averaging about 20 minutes

40:15

a night. So you'd like to see a little bit more from him, especially

40:18

on the offensive side. I think going to games with a goose

40:20

egg is tough, but really Florida as

40:22

a whole is not really generating too, too much offensively.

40:25

But I will say there have been some puck touches

40:27

of Sam Reinhardt's that I really like.

40:29

He's made some small area plays which

40:32

have translated into good opportunities for the Panthers.

40:35

So I get what you're saying optically. You look at sort of the broad

40:37

summary of stats and what he's accomplishing. You

40:39

can say, yeah, stocks trending down. But I think

40:41

there's been little instances throughout the game where

40:44

you go, oh, that was a really smart play. And that

40:46

was a Sam Reinhardt type of play. So I

40:48

think he's close to having an impact

40:51

and potentially taking his stock the other direction. I

40:53

hope so. Because if that means that we can get a longer series,

40:55

I don't want to see a four game series. I want to see this thing go. You

40:58

know, five, six, we'll leave it

40:59

at six because I do have a Vegas minus

41:02

one and a half. So we'll leave it at a

41:04

six game series so they can win by two,

41:06

two games here. But hopefully we can

41:08

get a little bit more of a competitive

41:11

game, I suppose, in game three. And

41:13

they can chop that lead in half, make

41:15

it two, one and make a series out of this. All

41:18

right. We got to fly, though. On the other

41:20

side, there might be some news here that

41:22

we might have to get into. Might be a trade

41:25

could potentially be in the works. We're going

41:27

to do some digging to see what's going on here. But

41:29

we'll also revisit our burning question

41:31

about a potential contract

41:33

with Austin Math is what that might look

41:36

like in terms of fairness for both sides.

41:38

So we'll get to that on the other side. I'm Mike DeSteffan with

41:40

Peter Holland. You'll listen to Lee Slunch here on TSN 1050.

41:43

Lee Slutch continues here on TSN 1050.

41:46

I'm Mike DeSteffan. I got Peter Holland with

41:48

me. Julia DeShare will return tomorrow.

41:50

Long a way to return

41:52

of Julia, who's out west

41:54

for the Memorial Cup. She'll

41:56

be back tomorrow. There

41:58

might be a trade.

43:59

space for gabrikov. Hopefully

44:02

we get that information at some

44:04

point here. But

44:06

hey, look at that a trade

44:07

in the NHL during the Stanley

44:10

Cup final. Like a sizeable one. How often

44:12

do we see a sizable trade where

44:14

a guy like Ivan Proverov, who's a very

44:17

good top four defenceman getting

44:19

dealt like this in the middle of the Cup final.

44:21

I was just going to say middle of the Cup final, a

44:23

big trade announce. Yeah. Seems a little

44:25

bit strange to me. The NHL usually doesn't

44:28

do these in a timely way. Yeah. They always wait

44:30

until afterwards. It's like, yeah. And then

44:32

it's a very, it's pretty much like a hurry up and wait

44:34

situation where there's no

44:37

deals, nothing through the Cup final.

44:39

And then all of a sudden, boom, there's a flurry

44:41

of stuff that happens. You'll get a bunch of extensions,

44:43

trades, you know, rights start getting moved

44:46

around all this, you know, around

44:48

the draft.

44:49

And then, you know, you

44:51

get free agency right around the corner. Like when it rains

44:54

early, when it rains, it pours, I guess. Yeah.

44:56

Little, a little early for a trade like

44:58

that. But hey, I am all in on

45:01

that one. Yeah.

45:02

I still, I just want to see what is, what

45:04

else is, is coming back here. I'm just

45:06

still slightly perplexed

45:08

as to what LA

45:11

gets out of retaining a portion of

45:14

Ivan Proverov salary. But that's,

45:16

that's the type of guy who I would expect actually

45:19

Babcock to want to go out and grab

45:21

a good defenceman like that. Right. That

45:23

was going to be my point. Are his fingerprints

45:25

all over this deal?

45:28

Oh, 100%, 100% his fingerprints are on that

45:30

deal. We know that Babcock is expected to

45:32

be named the head coach

45:34

in Columbus on July 1st. And I would

45:36

imagine he said, hey, I want some certain

45:39

players in the mix here. And

45:41

I guess Proverov will be one

45:43

of those guys that he's targeted. Remember when he was

45:45

here in Toronto?

45:46

Proverov was always kind of a guy that was, that

45:48

was talked about, about

45:50

maybe Toronto might want to bring a player

45:52

like him into the folds as a defenceman. So

45:54

he finally gets his man, but in Columbus, I'm

45:57

sure the boys on overdrive once this deal.

45:59

Maybe get some more pieces known to it. We'll

46:02

talk about it. They got the live stuff that they're going to talk

46:04

about. Maybe Mattie Kause will be able to break it

46:06

down on the other side as well. That does it for today's

46:09

show. You can find it on TSN1050.ca

46:11

if you missed it. Also on the art radio app or ever

46:13

get your podcast. Pete, appreciate

46:15

it. It was a fun week having you in these

46:17

last couple and hopefully we get you on

46:19

real soon. Good to be here, Al's brother. Thank

46:22

you. Gameplay with Matt Kause coming up next.
