Shane Doan has more than put
0:02
his time in with the Arizona Coyotes and
0:04
why the Arizona Coyotes haven't
0:08
found a more meaningful role for
0:10
him in hockey operations is
0:13
pure insanity for me. How many
0:15
times has he been identified
0:17
as a main player both on the
0:19
ice and off the ice in
0:21
management with Hockey Canada on key
0:23
teams including very recently helping
0:26
Canada win gold at the Men's World.
0:29
So when they
0:30
get the eyes dotted the teeth
0:32
crossed which will happen very soon I think that's
0:34
a pretty significant ad for the Leafs.
0:43
Alright welcome into Leafs Lunch everyone.
0:45
You heard Darren Drager right there our TSN Hockey Insider.
0:48
We'll have our other TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston
0:51
on in the next five or so minutes. This is Leafs
0:53
Lunch on TSN 1050. It's Julia Tasheri
0:55
and Mike DiStefano. A good game in the Stanley Cup
0:57
Final right now. We got a series which
0:59
is good news but we've also got some
1:02
information in Leafs land that's
1:05
swirling around the Twitterverse and the hockey
1:07
newsverse. Sounds
1:10
like Shane Doan will be joining
1:12
the Leafs front office as
1:14
assistant to Brad Treeliving, AB. Which
1:17
is so interesting. I got to talk to that guy. I'd
1:19
never met him before. Well we've had him on this show
1:21
haven't we? Yeah he's
1:22
a friend of the show. He
1:24
was named the general manager of the Olympic team
1:26
last year. When the NHL
1:28
decided that they weren't going to go.
1:31
So he ended up taking over as the GM of that squad. So
1:33
we had him on to talk about the team,
1:36
the selection process and the whole shebang. And
1:38
he was a great interview. Great guy. Such
1:40
a nice man. And anyone
1:42
you talk to talks about how of
1:44
a good person Shane Doan is. The
1:47
on ice. The guy 13 plus
1:49
hundred games. Almost 1400 games in his career.
1:52
And almost a thousand points. Obviously
1:54
he's pure class on the ice. But off the
1:56
ice an even better person apparently. So that's
1:59
really good. But when you look at it, Shane Doane
2:01
and it sounds as though it's it's all but complete
2:04
as also so It's not
2:06
officially official I suppose but
2:09
it sounds like he's going to be the
2:11
right-hand man Maybe to Brad trilliving and I
2:14
think that it's also just kind of a smart thing to do
2:16
because We talked about it before was
2:18
spets a departing with Kyle Dubis
2:21
that left a little bit of a void Like I know they have 82 AGM's
2:25
but they don't have any you know Former
2:27
players in the league like top players in the
2:29
league a player voice But you bring in a guy
2:31
like Shane Doane it and then he's just that
2:34
right so he could kind of be that Jason Spets
2:36
a replacement and Shane Doane has a lot more experience
2:38
than Jason Spets it does He doesn't have that
2:40
experience with the guys in the room That was a
2:43
added benefit and a bonus to what Spets
2:45
abroad But you talk about what Shane
2:47
Doane
2:48
has done throughout the course of his career He's
2:50
had a lot of really really solid, you
2:53
know managerial duties 1920 AGM
2:57
for Spangler Cup
2:59
AGM for team cat the world championships
3:01
in 2021
3:02
you said 1920 it's yeah, and
3:04
it sounded as though back in newspaper
3:07
hat
3:12
2020 the year that the year that
3:15
while COVID ended up coming in through that season
3:17
screwing things up But he got a Spangler championship
3:20
in before all that happened in the whole
3:22
world changed Team Canada
3:24
GM at the world hockey championships back in 21 22
3:28
Along with the Olympics and then
3:30
just was the AGM at the world championships
3:33
At this past world championships that just went down
3:35
where can end up winning gold So he was part of the selection
3:37
process and part of that whole shebang under
3:41
Doug Armstrong.
3:42
Yeah, so he's been around
3:44
a lot of good smart hockey people He's worked
3:46
with a lot of guys Obviously, there's the connection
3:48
with Brad she'll living from when he was with Arizona When
3:51
he was a GM for about seven years before going
3:53
to Calgary So there's that connection with Shane
3:56
don't and Brad to a living and now he's
3:58
gonna be a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs here pretty soon
4:01
as a member of their front office. Assistant 2,
4:03
General Manager Brad Trillivig.
4:05
Yeah, I don't even know how many teams have Assistant
4:07
to the GMs, but I think there's something.
4:09
It's totally just, it's
4:12
very Office-like. Oh yeah. Assistant 2,
4:14
Regional Manager. He's the Dwight Schrute of the
4:17
Toronto Maple East front office. Exactly. You
4:19
do see this often. I'm pretty sure that was
4:21
the title of Jason Spets as well,
4:23
right? That's what I'm saying is so hilarious. It's
4:25
like, oh, Kyle, you think you have a cool Assistant?
4:27
Check out my Assistant. Mine's Shane Doan. Shane
4:29
Doan. Let's go. That's the one-up thing. So
4:32
funny because I got to talk to Shane Doan in person
4:34
for the first time. That's right. Over the past week or
4:36
so because he came back from Latvia,
4:39
from the World Championships. He's one of the four owners
4:41
of the Kamloops Blazers. And to the
4:43
point you were making, what a nice guy. And
4:45
you could tell someone's a really nice guy when they come up to
4:47
you. I had never met him in person before. And he goes,
4:50
just to cover his bases, hey, nice to see you
4:52
again. And I'm like, I've never met you, Shane Doan.
4:54
You're just the nicest guy ever. Just assume
4:56
that he's crossed paths with you at some point
4:59
in one of the things you do. Yeah. What an awesome dude.
5:01
But he did a hot stove panel with Darren
5:03
Dreger. And I remember one of the questions that Dreger
5:06
asked was, what's next for you? What do you have
5:08
planned? Not even a grin
5:10
on his face. Nothing. Well, I don't know if you've
5:12
heard. Guys, a gamer.
5:13
I don't know if you heard on Overdrive yesterday, but
5:15
Mike Johnson literally had a
5:17
pregame nap. And
5:20
he was talking to Shane Doan before he went
5:22
down for a nap. And then he woke up.
5:24
Literally woke up and
5:26
he was signed with Toronto and he didn't even
5:28
know that that was happening. That's hilarious. Reportedly,
5:31
it was being announced or so. The news was breaking
5:33
that he was going to be in Toronto.
5:35
Amazing jibs, too. Some great
5:37
teeth on him. I think
5:39
Shane Doan's great. Let's bring in Chris Johnson on
5:41
that very erratic point that I just made, our TSN
5:43
hockey insider. How's it going, CJ?
5:46
I'm doing well. How are you? We're
5:48
great. We're having a little Friday. We're
5:50
on the rails and off the rails. It's a Friday type of
5:52
show.
5:52
Shane Doan's jibs on a scale of
5:54
one to 10, CJ. Apparently
5:56
Julian thinks they're 10. aren't
6:00
they nice? I think he
6:02
had the cover of the World Hockey Championship a lot earlier in
6:04
my career and I was dealing with Shane there
6:06
and you know his reputation
6:08
certainly jives with my experience with him.
6:11
What do you make of the news yesterday?
6:13
Brantry Living bringing him in reportedly,
6:15
it's not official yet, as
6:17
his assistant.
6:19
Yeah, I think that maybe some of the details
6:22
are still being worked out about what exactly
6:24
the role will be called and what it will involve
6:26
but I mean you know you can't have
6:28
enough good people in your organization
6:31
I think for Brad Trilliving obviously as
6:34
an EU GM you're going to want to have
6:37
people that you're familiar with and that you've worked with
6:39
in the past and they did spend a
6:41
lot of time together you know in
6:43
Arizona earlier in Brad's career and so
6:46
you know I think that we'll probably see
6:48
a number of changes over time between
6:51
the Least Front Office maybe people going to see
6:53
work elsewhere and obviously hiring like this one
6:56
for Toronto but you
6:58
know it's a big name and Shane Don't it's
7:00
someone who has a lot of experience in the game and I think he's
7:02
someone who wants to be more involved
7:04
in hockey operations roles than
7:06
he's had a chance to be in the past. Well in
7:08
a way does he kind of replace what
7:10
Jason Spezza you know with that
7:12
with him departing like does he replace
7:15
that role as that former player
7:17
decorated player in the front office?
7:19
Yeah I think that's fair you
7:21
know the difference with Spezza of course is that he played
7:24
with the Least you know right up until joining
7:26
the front office last summer so he had a lot of firsthand
7:28
knowledge of the dressing room
7:30
culture you know what some of the individuals would
7:32
be like I mean that that's a little
7:35
different in this case but you know I
7:37
don't think you really can have
7:39
enough sort of voices and opinions and
7:42
you know this this era for the Least now
7:45
moving you know beyond sort of the Kyle
7:47
Dubis era we'll call it is going to be
7:49
about introducing new people
7:52
to what is you know a bit of a Rubik's
7:55
Cube right trying to get this roster
7:57
in a spot where the Least can get over
7:59
the top to meet their objective of chasing
8:02
down a Stanley Cup. There's
8:05
going to be change. I think that's a
8:07
reality in pro sports. Basically,
8:09
no matter what, but especially when your team hasn't
8:11
had the success that the organization expects, you're
8:14
going to see new faces come in and Shane
8:16
will be one that accompanies
8:19
Brad Treliving. As I said, I don't expect over
8:21
time he'll be the last, although probably
8:23
won't see a lot of hirings here in the
8:25
short term because there's a lot of league business going
8:27
on.
8:28
Well, it's been well documented that Shane
8:30
Doan was also a idol
8:33
of Austin Matthews growing up. Obviously, he's
8:35
Mr. Arizona when it comes to the
8:38
hockey. The guy played
8:40
almost 1,400 games
8:42
for Arizona, almost 1,000 points. Do
8:44
you think that this could have any influence on
8:47
Austin Matthews and his decision to potentially
8:50
resign here in Toronto?
8:51
I honestly think it has 0%
8:54
influence on that decision, but
8:56
the one thing I've unchanged on is I don't think there's
8:58
any real reason to worry about Austin Matthews
9:00
resigning with the Leafs. I've been consistent
9:03
on this. Obviously, it's something I continue
9:06
to monitor. I don't think anything's changed there,
9:08
but I understand we're
9:10
in this weird window where he couldn't even sign a contract
9:13
today, even if the Leafs put something in
9:15
front of him that an offer he couldn't refuse
9:18
because of the league rules. We're at this time
9:20
where everyone's trying to see what
9:23
the weather patterns are in Scottsdale, is the wind
9:25
blowing in this direction. It's
9:27
Austin staying. I can
9:29
say unless something was horribly wrong or something
9:32
drastically changes from where it's at today that
9:34
Austin will be staying, I think that
9:36
the more relevant questions are what
9:38
does contract look like and what's the timing of
9:40
that going to, how's
9:43
that going to unfold? We don't have the
9:45
answers to that just yet, but
9:48
it's my understanding that Brad Trelivin will
9:50
be going to have a meeting with Austin
9:52
at some point here in the next week or so. At least
9:55
that's how it sounds. I don't know that they've
9:57
locked in an exact time for that, but basically
10:00
that process is going to move forward and
10:02
you know while it doesn't hurt to have Shane going around
10:04
you know the Leafs don't need to hire this person
10:06
or that person to get Matthews to stay. He wants
10:08
to be in Toronto. He wants to win a Stanley
10:11
Cup here. He loves the city.
10:13
He loves you know the experience he's had so
10:15
far in the NHL and it's just about you
10:18
know working through a process together of getting to know
10:20
each other to see what the direction of the organization
10:22
is and then ultimately coming to terms
10:24
on what his next deal is going to look like. For
10:26
some reason I started to morbidly chuckle when you said
10:28
barring something touristic because I feel like we
10:30
saw the most drastic of situations
10:33
to display out in Toronto with the GM
10:35
exit. So it feels like there's an air for dramatic
10:37
here somehow with our TSN hockey insider
10:39
Chris Johnston. So what does this tell us
10:41
CJ about
10:43
the state of the Arizona Coyotes or
10:45
does it not tell us anything and this has more to do
10:48
with Shane Doan not being elevated
10:50
in that organization and if that's the case
10:52
why do you think he wasn't?
10:54
A lot
10:56
to unpack there. I mean I think that the state
10:58
of the Coyotes is very much in flux or
11:00
in question you know ever since you
11:02
know this Tempe vote didn't go through
11:04
and there the arena plans that
11:06
they'd been pursuing were you know
11:09
kind of left on the vine. You know I know that they're
11:12
now trying to find a plan B or plan
11:14
C or plan B or whatever we're on now
11:16
for you know to secure the longer
11:18
term state of the franchise there. Obviously
11:21
the NHL is committed to trying to
11:23
make it work there but you know it does feel like you
11:26
know we're getting to a point at some point
11:28
where you know how much longer can you continue
11:31
you know we know they'll play in Molotirina next year but
11:34
I don't think you want a long long term solution
11:36
where you have a team playing in a 5000 seat
11:38
venue as nice as it is for
11:40
college games. So you
11:43
know I think what it tells us about Arizona
11:45
is that you know there's definitely some
11:47
uncertainty with that franchise and I think ultimately
11:49
in the case of Shane Donne
11:52
you know he's taking an opportunity
11:54
here and you know that's what I don't want
11:57
to go too far into because I don't know the exact nature
11:59
of his job. I would suspect he'll be
12:01
commuting here, but I don't know that as
12:03
a fact. And I think some of that was still being worked
12:06
out. And that's the reason the team hasn't announced his hiring
12:08
just yet. But this is a pretty
12:11
cool opportunity, even for someone
12:13
like Shane, to say he's worked for the Leafs, to
12:16
have an ability to work with someone like Brad True
12:18
Living, who he obviously shares a healthy
12:21
and positive relationship with. And
12:24
in Arizona, I think there's just a lot
12:26
of question marks. The players there are
12:29
all wondering, how long are we here? Is
12:32
this gonna be moved? And I just think there's still
12:34
a lot more questions than answered when it comes to the
12:37
immediate future of the Coyotes. Because they've
12:39
been planning to be breaking ground
12:41
about now on a new arena.
12:43
And as it stands, they don't have anywhere to play
12:46
that's sort of an NHL
12:48
size rank for the foreseeable
12:50
future. Well,
12:51
that sounds like a perfect transition into maybe what's
12:53
going on out in Ottawa. I'm not sure if you saw the
12:55
report from Bruce Garriock about 40
12:58
minutes or so ago. Looks like Steve
13:00
Apostolopoulos, who was maybe
13:03
one of the front runners to land the Ottawa
13:05
Senators. He was reportedly ready
13:08
to make an extremely large bid.
13:10
Says he's pulling out because the negotiations
13:13
taking too long. Why is this sale
13:15
process taking so long, CJ, with
13:17
the Ottawa Senators? I felt like the
13:20
first we heard of it, it was like, should be wrapped
13:22
up in May. And it was, sorry, it should be wrapped
13:25
or April, then May. Now we're into June
13:27
and we got people falling off here. Like
13:30
what's going on with this sale process?
13:32
Well, it's complicated, right? Because you're
13:35
having a team sold essentially by the estate
13:37
of Eugene Melnick. And the
13:40
way estates work generally is that they're
13:42
trying to get the most amount of money for the
13:44
people that are due to inherit that
13:46
money. And so that isn't
13:49
always the case when a team sells. I mean, sometimes
13:51
an owner for
13:53
White have his or her reasons to move on from a
13:55
team and they're not just trying to get the
13:57
highest price out of the bidders. Maybe there's
13:59
a. certain person they want to see take over the legacy
14:02
they've built. I mean, teams get sold under
14:04
different circumstances all the time. And I think in this
14:06
case, you essentially have, uh,
14:09
you know, three sets of parties here with
14:11
the, the Galliado sports group in
14:13
the middle, uh, you know, managing the sale, but
14:15
obviously the NHL and its board of governors on one
14:17
side and then the bidders and you know,
14:19
the timeline has been a little longer than I think
14:21
than some of those, those bidders have wanted.
14:24
And, and, and, and so I think that that best explains,
14:26
you know, the outside view
14:29
of, of what's gone on here. And,
14:31
and you can understand, I mean, look, the, the Remington
14:33
group that had Ryan Reynolds on board, you
14:35
know, wanted to get a window to start
14:37
negotiating on a new arena that didn't happen. And
14:40
they pulled out, um, you know, according
14:42
to Bruce Gary ox report, now you've had
14:44
the highest bidder in terms of absolute
14:46
money on the table, pull out, uh, with some frustration
14:49
about, uh, the way the process has gone.
14:51
And so, um, you know,
14:53
I think that that's, that's the easiest way to sum it up. As
14:55
Gary Bettman said last week, it is state
14:58
of the union. It's, you know, a billion dollar franchise
15:00
sale. Isn't the same as just going down the street and buying a
15:02
car. And, um, you
15:04
know, this, this is going to go down as there's the biggest
15:07
single sale in terms of value
15:10
for an NHL franchise. And it's, uh,
15:12
it's, it's taking its time. And I, you know,
15:14
still digesting today's news. Don't know if there's a
15:16
way to get that group back in
15:19
the bidding or if it's a hundred percent done or
15:21
where it goes from here. Um, you
15:23
know, but I, I do think that, that we are getting
15:26
towards the end of it. Um, but, but obviously
15:28
not the timeline, everybody at the table wants.
15:30
Yeah. Interesting to see how it's taken
15:32
so long to unfold, but hopefully we're nearing
15:34
an end. Do you think this would impact, you
15:37
know, what the Ottawa senators can do this
15:39
summer at all? If they don't have ownership in place
15:41
by, you know, July one.
15:43
Well, I think it impacts
15:45
just the overall view of the franchise,
15:48
right? I mean, they've been running just
15:50
fine for the last year that they have a process
15:52
in place. Obviously they've been paying their
15:54
players and, and, you know, have the sort
15:57
of mini board that Pierre Doria on their general
15:59
manager answers. to in the sort of middle
16:02
phase of the franchise. But I think
16:04
when you look at something like Alex De Brinkett and
16:07
the possibility of extending him, I think part
16:10
of his reasons for not wanting to
16:12
sign a long-term deal right now are the unknown
16:14
in terms of who's going to own the team,
16:16
what's going to be the mandate, is it going to be a cap
16:18
team or not, are they going to be building a new arena, are they
16:20
going to be staying where they are? When
16:23
you're a player like De Brinkett who's
16:26
in his mid-20s or entering his mid-20s, and
16:29
you're talking about potentially signing a seven or
16:31
eight-year deal, it's hard to do that when
16:34
you don't know exactly what you're signing up for. And
16:37
so I think it is having some
16:39
impact on sort of the business
16:42
of the team, and in that case, case
16:44
in point, because now the senators are
16:46
looking to potentially trade his rights
16:48
this summer. And I'm not sure that would have happened
16:50
in a world where this sale got done sooner.
16:53
So in some cases,
16:55
I think it's going to impair them. But
16:58
the good news is a lot of the best young talent
17:00
on that team have already signed long-term deals,
17:03
and they're committed to being there, and
17:06
everyone just kind of waits for clarity
17:08
in the owner's office.
17:10
OK, a couple more off-ice things to get to, CJ,
17:12
before we can get to the actual hockey game that
17:14
happened last night. Some rumblings about
17:17
Luke Chen, who quickly became a fan favorite
17:19
here in Toronto this morning.
17:20
We did kind of a free agent priority
17:23
board the other day. We were both saying how nice
17:25
it would be to get Luke Chen back in Toronto,
17:27
and it kind of sounds like he's into the idea
17:29
too. So what do you think a potential
17:31
deal for Luke Chen would look like if he were to remain
17:34
a Toronto Maple Leaf?
17:35
Well, he was definitely interested in being
17:37
here. I think it was a really positive experience for he and
17:40
his family, kind of getting repatriated to
17:42
the organization that drafted him.
17:44
Obviously, he got a
17:46
chance to play a meaningful role in the playoffs,
17:48
and to my eyes, was one of their top
17:50
five or six performers, just in terms of
17:52
how steady he was. And not
17:55
a lot of bad things happened when he was on the ice, which
17:57
we couldn't say for the entire decor during
17:59
the the two rounds of the playoffs this year.
18:01
And so I think it's still a matter of working
18:04
out the numbers and the like. I mean, he's been on
18:06
pretty bargain-based deals under a million
18:08
dollars the last few seasons. I
18:10
would think that he's probably looking at a little bit
18:12
of a raise there. I would think that
18:15
to get him to give up the chance to
18:17
hit the open market, you're probably going to have to give him
18:20
multiple years. And ultimately
18:22
for Luke Chen, I think that he's going
18:24
to want some some sort of assurance
18:27
that if he's signing in a place
18:29
like Toronto or if it ends up being somewhere else on July
18:31
1st, that he's not going to be looking
18:34
at another mid-season move because he's
18:36
got a growing family now with three
18:38
kids. And understandably,
18:40
he wants a chance to chase the Stanley Cup
18:42
and
18:43
play for the team where he signs. And so I
18:45
think there's lots of paths there to
18:47
a deal. I don't have any reason to believe that's
18:49
imminent or that there's a lot of
18:52
action
18:53
with the numbers being exchanged and stuff
18:55
like that. So it's hard to say exactly what the contract
18:57
will look like. But
18:59
I think there is mutual interest from the Leafs side
19:01
and from Luke Chen side to ultimately get
19:03
something done. In conversation
19:05
with Chris Johnson, our TSN hockey insider,
19:08
Columbus continues to just disrespect
19:10
the Stanley Cup flannel. They say, I do
19:13
not care. We're going to get some business accomplished
19:15
here. Made a trade for Ivan Proverov
19:17
early in the week, now making another deal today,
19:20
acquiring defenseman Damon Severson
19:22
from the New Jersey Devils via sign and
19:24
trade. He was the number one player on your North Star
19:27
big board as well for free agents. What
19:29
does this say about the directive of
19:31
Columbus making a couple of big splashy
19:34
trades like this? Are
19:36
they in win now mode with Babcock
19:38
in the fold?
19:39
Well, yeah, they're not heading into this year
19:42
worrying about the draft lottery, right? I mean, ultimately,
19:44
I guess it could still come to that. But as an organization,
19:46
they're not they're not signing up for
19:48
a 10 year rebuild here and just, you know,
19:51
trying to hang around the bottom of the standings and get lucky
19:54
at the end of the year in April and you know, draft
19:56
a generational talent. And so, you
19:58
know, I applaud the
19:59
and I think it's been an
20:02
interesting couple days
20:04
now for the Blue Jackets. It's not just that
20:06
they've lined up like Babcock as their next head
20:08
coach, but in bringing in Ivan
20:10
Proverov and Damon Feverson,
20:12
look what it does to
20:14
the free agent market. I mean you have Dmitry Orlov
20:16
now
20:17
depending UFA, but beyond that you
20:20
don't have a lot of what I would call impactful
20:22
defensemen that
20:23
are going to be on the free agent market.
20:25
There's not a lot of other places for teams to turn
20:27
and I think one of the places
20:29
they might actually turn is the Blue Jackets themselves.
20:32
You know they have Adam Boquist,
20:34
Jake Beane, Andrew
20:36
Pizzo,
20:38
they have those three players. I think
20:40
that
20:41
teams looking at the prospect of
20:43
overpaying potentially someone in free agency have
20:46
to at least consider now making a deal with the Blue Jackets
20:48
and I so I don't expect long as
20:50
to actually I don't think that
20:53
they're putting their feet up and saying job done. I think that they're
20:55
going to continue to be aggressive
20:56
and what's interesting about Yarmul
20:59
Kekkalainen, if you remember a few years ago to trade that
21:01
line, he kind of went all in. Remember
21:03
he traded for Ryan Zingle and
21:05
Matthew Shane at the time and made
21:08
a flurry of moves for a team that was going to make
21:10
the playoffs and ultimately they did get their first series
21:13
victory in franchise history that spring.
21:16
When Yarmul has is motivated
21:18
we've seen him be able to pull off a lot of moves in a short
21:20
amount of time and so I sort
21:23
of applaud him for getting ahead of the market here because
21:25
I do think all of a sudden if your team that was in
21:28
the market to maybe try to bring in
21:30
a top four defenseman you've seen Gavrikov
21:32
this week, you know, it's signed an extension in LA
21:34
and now Diverson comes off the board
21:37
and so I
21:38
think we're going to have a pretty busy trading period
21:40
between now and really the starter
21:42
for agency. Yeah it's interesting you say that because
21:44
I like I'm watching the cup final I'm seeing Vegas
21:47
have so much success and you know you look
21:49
and they've got such a big hulking blue
21:51
line but it's just such a good deep
21:54
blue line as well. Like I wonder how
21:56
influential by watching the cup final like
21:58
these theories of moves Where you
22:01
see a team like Columbus Inc. We got to get better
22:03
on the blue line We got to get bigger on the blue line Like
22:05
how much more do you think we're gonna see this
22:07
around the league with a bunch of these, you know Defensemen
22:10
being highly coveted around the NHL and and
22:12
that being kind of something
22:14
that a lot of teams look to do over the course of this
22:16
offseason Well,
22:17
I mean it's hard to argue look, you
22:20
know, I I love a smaller player It's
22:22
I was a smaller player myself once upon a time nowhere
22:24
near that Of course, but I'm not a tall
22:27
guy Coburg legend But
22:29
you look at the teams that have won a Stanley Cup whether
22:31
you go back to st. Louis in 2019 even
22:34
Colorado And
22:37
what Vegas is potentially gonna do I mean
22:39
there's just those teams haven't featured a
22:41
lot of players with with a five at the
22:43
start of their height I mean, she's like six letters and above
22:46
playing the most meaningful Minutes and you know,
22:48
I don't know that that's necessarily a new
22:50
thing. But I mean it's certainly it's hard to ignore
22:53
it If you are watching
22:55
the playoffs and especially if you're watching at the end
22:57
point where we're at now where You
22:59
know, it's such a grind and then the physical aspect
23:01
of the game Does does have an impact
23:04
when we've seen a bunch of hits through the three games
23:06
of this Golden Knights Panthers Cup final
23:08
You know these teams are really going at each
23:11
other and I think to withstand that sometimes
23:13
you're gonna need some obviously some physical players
23:15
and big men to in order
23:17
to do that and so If you're
23:20
if you can play the position and you're
23:22
confident that it and you also Are
23:25
a bigger guy? I think it's it probably bodes
23:27
well for you being in demand and
23:29
for earning you know nice contracts
23:31
because you know clearly teams understand
23:34
the value of that and and I
23:36
think that you know, Just looking at
23:39
what's happened in in recent
23:41
years I mean and not that it not
23:43
the hate on the Quinn uses or some of the players that are
23:45
a little smaller that are Amazing at
23:47
the position themselves But but they're they're probably
23:49
more outliers than than the
23:51
rule if you know what I'm saying when it comes to
23:54
how to have success You know on your blue line
23:56
Justin Hall is gonna make a boat. Let him money this
23:59
offseason, isn't he?
23:59
Just happens to be a big bodied
24:02
right hand defenseman.
24:02
It's just gonna happen. It's just gonna happen. Maybe
24:05
not as physical as some teams would want. He's
24:08
gonna have a job next year. I'm confident
24:10
about that. Oh yeah, for sure.
24:12
Alright, onto the Cup Final. There was a game last night. It was
24:14
an exciting one. The comeback cats,
24:16
CJ. They get their seventh OT win
24:19
of this postseason. Matthew Kachuk was
24:21
a beast last night. He takes that big
24:23
hit and
24:24
comes back to score the game-tying goal. What
24:26
were your, what was your initial
24:28
reaction to the game last night when the cats made it to
24:31
one series?
24:32
Well, they were dangerously close to giving
24:35
us not a lot of intrigue heading
24:37
into the weekend. Oh yeah. And good
24:39
on them. I mean, this is
24:41
who they are. And it's funny because
24:43
naturally when you see a team win the first two games of any
24:45
series, you're doing hits like this
24:47
one. The inclination is to write off the other team. But
24:51
I really felt that the series was still up
24:53
for grabs pending back
24:54
game three. And I
24:57
come away this morning feeling the same way that
24:59
Florida is right there. And
25:02
we just have to kind of see how it goes. I
25:05
mean, Matthew Kachuk is,
25:06
you know, win or lose for the Panthers, I think has totally
25:09
changed,
25:10
or at least partially changed the view
25:12
of him as sort of a place in the league, as
25:15
being a really compelling character off the ice. And
25:18
I just think he's been exposed to a wider
25:20
swath of fans, you know, by having this kind
25:22
of playoff run. And, you know,
25:25
it's hard to ignore the nature of the goals he scored. It's
25:27
not just the number in the
25:30
column beside his name, but it's, you know, scoring
25:32
those late time goals or obviously a couple overtime
25:35
goals he said earlier in the playoffs. And
25:37
so he's kind of adding to the legend here. And, you
25:40
know, I think we're going to have a real series, which is, which, you know,
25:42
for me is great. I mean, we're down to maximum
25:45
four games left in this whole NHL season. And obviously
25:47
it could be two, depending on how things
25:49
go. So I'm excited to see
25:52
that the teams are going
25:54
to keep playing and, you know, hope that hope
25:56
it goes six or seven games because
25:58
I think it could be pretty compelling.
25:59
compelling ending if we get to a game
26:02
six or game seven situation. Yeah. Could
26:04
you clearly a guy who has made
26:06
a name for himself throughout these playoffs,
26:09
Bobrovsky rebounding
26:11
into his best in the form. But
26:13
is
26:14
has anyone seen their stock
26:16
rise more than maybe Jonathan
26:18
Marshall? So has in these playoffs, 13
26:21
goals, less 13 games outstanding.
26:25
Yeah, it's wild, especially because he
26:27
got to the second round of the playoffs with zero goals
26:31
on his ledger. I mean, it's
26:33
funny when you think about how we talk about players
26:35
and obviously we do it a lot when it gets to the
26:37
Leafs. You know, this this or three games in the series
26:40
and player acts hasn't scored a goal yet. I mean, we've
26:42
had a lot of those chats, guys. And,
26:44
you know, there is sort of that proof of your team
26:46
can play long enough. It gives some
26:48
of your top players an ability to change
26:51
the way things are going for the Marshall. So, I mean, it's
26:54
unreal how he just feels like he's good for at least
26:56
the goal game at this point in time.
26:58
And he has been now going back, you know, two rounds plus
27:02
and put himself in the conversation, I
27:04
would think, for the Kon Smithedrophy. You
27:07
know, he's he's helped the stock.
27:09
You know, I think some like Ivan Barbashev has
27:11
really helped his stock too on the Golden Knights end of
27:13
things because of the way he's performing in
27:15
the playoffs and just that he's coming up as a potential
27:18
unrestricted free agent. I mean, even Aidan
27:20
Hill in the Vegas net, not
27:22
sure there would have been much hype about him. You
27:25
know, had Vegas just gone out in the first
27:27
round or even just if Loran Brossois was
27:29
carrying the mail through the playoffs and he hadn't come into
27:31
the series, but now, you know, he's someone who's
27:34
also a potential free agent who's
27:36
getting to show his stuff. So, I mean,
27:38
this is a special
27:39
time for some of those players that are maybe
27:41
going to tie him up their next contract really well with
27:43
a strong, strong spring. Where'd you
27:45
have Aidan Hill at on your big board? CJ,
27:48
did you get him? You end up pushing him up the board
27:50
a little bit?
27:51
Yeah, I think I had him around 20th,
27:53
give or take. But, you
27:55
know, that's that's going to, you know, I'm probably going
27:57
to put out a new one next week or at least the next.
27:59
and 10 days and he's got room
28:02
to climb especially if he ends up wishing that stuff
28:04
were in the short term. Absolutely and hey
28:06
it could happen as early as this weekend. It could happen.
28:09
I appreciate it as always
28:11
CJ enjoy the weekend we'll
28:13
chat with you again next Friday.
28:15
Thank you I'm heading out to the Canadian Open of Staffs.
28:19
Stop by and say hello to the Odawg and the boys
28:21
for me.
28:22
I think Odawg will be big time
28:24
if I show up at his booth there. What do you think?
28:26
I just saw somebody's wearing a 92 Jeff
28:28
O'Neill leaf jersey at the Canadian
28:30
Open right now. Is it a plant?
28:32
Well no so there's the the rink hole
28:34
the hockey hole and they're like allowed to wear jerseys.
28:37
So it was Mackenzie Hughes's caddy
28:40
who actually...
28:42
What's that? Wasn't his last name misspelled?
28:44
Yeah so O was telling the story yesterday
28:47
on Overdrive how he went to a cherry
28:49
game and he was given an O'Neill
28:51
jersey and it was misspelled. The I
28:53
and E were opposite so
28:55
he's like
28:57
I guess at Mack Hughes's
28:59
caddy asked him for a jersey and
29:01
he said here you can take this one and you can keep it because
29:03
I don't want this thing anymore in my basement. So
29:06
yeah he's rocking a Jeff O'Neill jersey
29:09
but it is misspelled but it is an authentic
29:11
O'Neill jersey that he wore in a charity game
29:13
so it's still a pretty cool story I'd say. I love
29:16
that. That's great. I think that
29:18
probably adds more value to it to be honest with you.
29:20
Just the story that goes along with it. Appreciate
29:23
it buddy. Enjoy the Canadian Open. You gonna catch the
29:25
peas tonight? You sticking around for that?
29:27
I am. Yep. That's the plan.
29:30
Unless the sky has other things in
29:32
mind but I'm planning to go there and stay there. Love
29:34
it. Love it. Well enjoy it.
29:37
Have a ball and we'll chat next week.
29:39
Okay sounds good. There he goes. Chris
29:41
Johnson our TSN hockey insider.
29:44
Seems like the rain is supposed to chill. I'm just taking
29:46
a gander right now. I think the rain is behind us.
29:48
Yeah hopefully. I'm going tomorrow. I
29:50
think it's gonna be a great weekend though. I think
29:52
we got a little rainy
29:55
on Sunday. Tomorrow's okay? Tomorrow looks good. 24
29:58
a little some cloud coverage. Perfect.
29:59
It really is especially if you're gonna be
30:02
out there like I don't know I've never been
30:04
to a golf event I'm not the I'm
30:06
not
30:06
a big golf guy to be quite honest with
30:09
you, but I don't know if I would
30:12
Like I probably would enjoy it just because
30:14
the atmosphere and I guess it'd be a different experience
30:16
But like you just sit there and you're walking around
30:19
all day And really doesn't appetize me
30:21
all that much to be quite
30:22
I know I let you know how I love a walk
30:24
though And I love a fun outfit. Yeah,
30:26
and I've been into the golf recently. I'm going on Saturday
30:29
Are you are you gonna be wearing
30:31
golf shoes on the course? No, so
30:34
I had a
30:35
my roommate was telling me that a guy at work
30:38
got tickets to the Canadian Open this weekend
30:40
Yeah, and went and bought a new pair
30:42
of golf shoes to wear at the open
30:44
good for him Like ah,
30:46
this is all I don't know. I don't know if he
30:49
golfs at all I don't know the guy but like how do you
30:51
the Canadian Opus got to go and get himself a brand
30:54
new? You know some brand new golf shoes
30:56
It's interesting the range of characters
30:59
at the Canadian Open I went last year It was a lot of
31:01
fun And I that was my first time going to a golf
31:03
event and it was it
31:04
was cool Savity wandering around
31:06
but it's also cool to see the range in outfits because you either
31:08
go for the business casual look
31:11
or the I might Hop in and play around
31:13
or a whole look There's two streams
31:15
of thought and I go for that I might hop in and play
31:18
a hole
31:18
the guys who walk around like glove
31:20
guy they bring their love. Oh
31:22
my god There's there's a lot of guys
31:24
in golf. That's that is the funny part I've
31:27
been really enjoying the guys being down there though all
31:29
week over drives been a hoot an Absolute
31:31
hoot the the screaming match that Hayes
31:34
and MJ got into about Contract
31:36
yesterday if you missed it go check out the overdrive podcast
31:39
boy Was that just like a 20 minute smack
31:42
down between hazy B and MJ
31:44
was hilarious.
31:44
I love the heat there I do Dallas
31:47
Aiken's gonna join us in the next
31:49
hour But there is some
31:51
news that is being made official will tell
31:53
you about that on the other side I'm like to
31:55
Stephanie with Julia to Sherry listen at least lunch here
31:57
on TSN 1050.
31:59
All right, welcome back
31:59
Let's back in a little bit of news for you guys.
32:03
It's official now, just in the midst
32:05
of that last commercial break, the Maple Leafs
32:07
have officially hired Shane
32:09
Doan to serve as special
32:10
advisor to GM
32:12
Brad Tree Living. And let me just say, A.B.,
32:15
that
32:15
I love the internet and I hate
32:17
the internet simultaneously because we know
32:19
Twitter can be a real cesspool sometimes, but
32:22
also whenever news breaks there is a series
32:25
of hilarious things that generally
32:27
come out. People are so creative, I love it.
32:29
I saw a tweet last night,
32:32
something to the effect of
32:34
we're going to abolish
32:37
the term core four here in the Toronto
32:39
Maple Leafs and my first order of business is to hire
32:41
Austin Matthews' favorite player, special
32:44
advisor. And then another heater that came out
32:47
this morning,
32:47
something to the effect of Shane Doan's
32:50
main task as special
32:52
assistant to the GM is just to walk around the Maple
32:54
Leafs facilities and loudly claim, wow,
32:57
we don't have anything like this in Arizona. Yeah,
33:00
we don't have
33:00
that. We don't get that in Arizona. So, shout out
33:03
to the internet, they're our first star
33:05
of the day and this hiring is official
33:07
now. Shane Doan, part of this Maple Leafs team. Interesting
33:09
to see how it'll shake out. Like
33:12
I was Arizona to Toronto, like
33:14
I don't know if there's enough dollars in the world
33:16
to... Well, how long
33:17
are they going to be in Arizona for? Like
33:19
that's the ques... I mean, this did kind
33:21
of perk my ears, be like, if Shane Doan, Mr. Arizona Hockey,
33:24
is leaving that organization, like
33:28
what does that tell you about Arizona Hockey
33:30
at this point? Well, what perk my
33:32
ears is when CJ said he could be a commuting
33:34
type of thing, like he might not be full time based in Toronto.
33:36
It could be, it could
33:37
be the case in the press release that
33:39
the Leafs put out, we've
33:41
retweeted it on Twitter as well. It says, in
33:43
his role Doan will assist on all day to day matters
33:45
on hockey operations as assigned by
33:49
the GM. So, it sounds like he'll
33:51
be pretty hands on if that is the case.
33:53
Oh, and he was apparently in the mix in
33:55
Arizona, like always,
33:58
always involved. I'm just seeing Craig Newell. Morgan
34:00
do some tweeting that'll be weird not to see him
34:02
every day, because he was even though
34:04
not in a really elevated role with the coyotes pretty
34:06
hands-on and just day-to-day being
34:08
around the rank stuff. And he definitely does
34:11
just from talking to him a bit. You know those guys
34:13
that seem like real ring rats, like just like to
34:15
be in the rank? The whole
34:17
side story, Olin Zellweger
34:20
on the Cam Lips Blazers, he was really good for Team Canada
34:22
at the World Juniors,
34:23
would get to the rank at like early
34:25
in the morning and not leave until like two hours after the
34:27
game, just stick handling, just likes to be in the rank. They
34:29
can't drag him out. And Shane Doan seems like a similar
34:32
cat. Just likes to be around the rank.
34:33
Yeah, he's been the last
34:35
couple of seasons for the last three years of Arizona. They're
34:39
chief hockey development officer, so
34:41
and took a step back this year from that role.
34:43
And obviously now he's transitioning into
34:46
Toronto. Brad True Living in the
34:48
press release said, I'm very excited to welcome
34:50
Shane to the Toronto Maple Leafs. There was more than 1500
34:52
NHL games played, his
34:55
management roles being an NHL
34:57
team captain and more than a decade of
34:59
just being a wonderful human being. Shane
35:01
has touched all the aspects of the game, which make
35:03
him a terrific fit with the Maple Leafs organization,
35:06
its staff, and its players.
35:08
And Shane Doan is being quoted saying,
35:10
I am very honored to join the Toronto Maple Leafs
35:12
in this role. The Maple Leafs have such a deep
35:14
history and passionate fan base. I'm excited
35:17
to contribute in any way I can to the organization's
35:19
pursuit of their ultimate goal. I'm also
35:21
thrilled to once again work alongside Brad True
35:23
Living and continue a working relationship
35:25
that began during Brad's time with the Coyotes.
35:28
So, yeah, so Shane Doan
35:31
now a special advisor
35:34
to general manager Brad True Living,
35:37
that is now official.
35:39
That's the first order of business for Brad True
35:42
Living.
35:42
That's like, I believe that that's officially the
35:44
first thing he hired his boy
35:47
to come in and be the special advisor behind
35:49
Brad True Living. What
35:51
do you make of that as a first move?
35:53
Well, I'm, well, I think it's a good
35:55
hire. Like, I think Shane Doan, you talk
35:57
about the decorated resume he has, not
35:59
only. professional as like
36:01
a professional hockey player, but also like off-ice
36:04
post playing career in a managerial
36:07
role. Like he's had many GM
36:09
and AGM roles with Team Canada. So
36:11
these are things that he has experience
36:14
with. And I think that with him also learning
36:16
under other guys for so many years with
36:19
Team Canada, like Steve Iserman, Doug
36:22
Armstrong, plenty of other people who've
36:24
been involved within the Team Canada
36:27
team building process, you gotta think that he's
36:29
plucked a couple of different really
36:31
good ideas off those guys.
36:34
And he should be able to bring, you
36:36
know, that type of experience here to Toronto now.
36:38
Yeah, and I will say, I don't
36:40
know if this is a bit of a reach, but it's a thought that's dawning
36:42
on me now as we talk about this.
36:44
Shane Doane, playing,
36:47
being a Toronto Maple Leaf is like big honour, everyone
36:49
that plays here, you hear say it, it's an honourable belief,
36:52
lots especially from guys who are
36:55
from here, but it's also, we know, not
36:58
super attractive, the weather, the taxes,
37:00
the media scrutiny, like there's lots of reasons
37:03
why guys wouldn't want to come to Toronto. And
37:05
Shane Doane does a lot of selling, weirdly
37:08
enough, with trying to get guys to go
37:10
to the World Championships in the summer. So
37:12
I don't know if it's a bit of a reach in the thought process
37:14
that I'm having, but I had a conversation
37:16
with him about the World Championships, and
37:18
it was almost like, I don't wanna call it a sales
37:20
pitch because it was really genuine, but he was
37:23
like, this is the great part about playing the World Championship
37:26
and why wouldn't you wanna do it? So he was selling it so well to me that by the end,
37:28
I was like, I hope I make the World Championship team next
37:31
year, because I'm totally gonna go. Maybe there's
37:33
ties to it too. He was a guy who
37:35
was always at the World Championships though,
37:37
like, because the coyotes, they weren't a
37:39
very good team, so he was always free and available.
37:41
Hey, yeah, sure, I'll go wear the Canadian
37:44
crest and go play for my country, and now
37:46
he's gonna pull, he'll have another Maple Leaf logo
37:48
across his chest with the Toronto
37:50
Maple Leafs.
37:51
The,
37:54
we jokingly asked CJ, it's a
37:56
half joke actually, if you felt that this would have any
37:58
impact on Austin- Matthews at
38:00
all. Like it's very well known
38:03
and Austin Matthews has said it multiple times that
38:05
he grew up Shane Domes favorite player. He idolized
38:08
Shane Domes. They actually have a relationship
38:11
those two from when he was kids
38:13
doing a lot of development camps within the Arizona
38:16
organization. Like Domes has always been
38:18
part of the grassroots level
38:20
hockey in Arizona and clearly the
38:22
poster child of grassroots hockey out of that state
38:25
is Austin Matthews.
38:27
Yeah. But not that I think
38:29
that it's
38:29
it's going to move the needle a whole
38:31
lot, but I don't think it hurts having
38:34
Shane Domes in the fold. And here's where it may
38:36
help.
38:37
If if you look
38:40
at the relationship with Austin
38:41
Matthews and Brad Trilliving, there isn't really
38:44
one, right? But that doesn't mean that they can't build
38:46
one. But the thought process when Kyle
38:48
Dubas was let go was he
38:50
had such a good relationship with Kyle Dubas. He
38:52
knew what the vision was. He knew what the team was doing moving
38:55
forward. Not there's a new guy in charge.
38:57
Does he know the vision? Is that going to hinder him
38:59
coming back
39:00
or will at least make him second guess things?
39:03
Perhaps that's the case. But if if Shane
39:05
Domes is endorsing Brad Trilliving
39:08
and Brad Trilliving's message and he has
39:10
a good relationship with Austin Matthews, maybe
39:12
that in a way will be the way that
39:14
it could help have some
39:17
sort of impact and influence on Matthews signing
39:19
here long
39:19
term. Yeah. And honestly, it's important
39:21
to know, like we heard Dregs on first up this morning.
39:24
Dregs said Austin Matthews, it sounds like right now
39:26
has every intention of signing with Toronto.
39:28
Right. Just heard CJ. It
39:31
would take something drastic. Right now he believes Austin Matthews has
39:33
every single intention of signing with Toronto. I
39:35
have a little favorite player dang. And again, these
39:37
are Dregs said this morning. These are grown men.
39:39
I don't think Austin Matthews like, oh my
39:40
gosh. No, she still doesn't have the poster Shane
39:43
Domes on his wall that he did when he was 13. He
39:45
might. Who knows? But
39:48
I think it's a nice, it's a nice little sweetener
39:50
AB.
39:51
It could be. It could be. This
39:53
is just good for the Maple Leafs. You know, Austin Matthews
39:55
aside, it's a good hire and it's a good ad
39:57
and Brad Schulvig. We knew he was going to eventually. Bring
40:00
in some of his own people a lot of the leftovers
40:02
are from Kyle Dubis and whatnot and
40:05
we still might see some of Those people end
40:07
up moving on but I do think
40:09
that Shane dome was
40:11
a good hire and I think will be a good addition to
40:13
the Leafs front office Whether he has any impact
40:15
on Austin Matthews at all So welcome
40:18
to Toronto Shane dome friend of
40:21
the show here on Leafs lunch He's now a
40:23
special advisor to general manager Brad
40:26
tree living
40:27
Alright on the other side. Let's
40:29
get into let's get into our burning question
40:32
today We're
40:33
at it's the 30 year anniversary of
40:35
the last time that the a Canadian
40:37
team won the Stanley Cup So we
40:39
might get into that on the other side Dallas
40:42
Eakins also gonna join us at 105 So
40:44
do some stay or go get back in the last night's game, too
40:47
I'm Mike just Stefano got Julie to share with me. We'll
40:49
see the Leafs lunch here on TSN 1050 Least
40:52
questions get you out of your car leaves today It's as easy as pie
40:54
a piece of cake avoid penalties and early
40:56
termination fees visit least busters comm
40:59
it's Mike to Stefano with Julia To Sherry
41:01
listening to Leafs lunch Dallas Eakins gonna join
41:04
us in about 15 or so minutes former
41:06
NHL head coach Here's see what his thoughts
41:08
were watching that game last night at the Stanley
41:10
Cup final We'll do our stings and goes and
41:13
a little bit as well. But you
41:15
know, we have a least burning question We're not gonna get
41:17
to it now We'll get to it about 130 but I want to put
41:19
it out there so that the people the listeners
41:22
can get involved And
41:24
our least burning question today is more of a
41:26
general question actually because today is the 30 year Anniversary
41:29
that the Montreal Canadiens won the Stanley
41:32
Cup But it's the last time that a Canadian
41:34
team has won the cup So the question today
41:36
is which team is most likely to
41:38
end Canada's 30 year Stanley
41:41
Cup drought We've got the question posted on
41:43
Twitter at least lunch 1050. We'll get into
41:45
it a little bit later Hopefully you guys can contribute
41:48
as well With your thoughts
41:50
and opinions as to you know, which team you
41:52
think is most likely to do so
41:55
That being said
41:57
I've had the we
41:59
just two weeks, okay, of being
42:02
an adult.
42:03
I have been in the situation
42:06
here where my fridge broke
42:08
and I needed new appliances and this
42:10
has been a two-week ordeal, Julia,
42:12
and it all culminated into last night,
42:14
which was the worst day of all.
42:15
No. Okay, wait to clarify. Your fridge is
42:17
broken and then they just wanted to replace everything,
42:20
your landlord?
42:20
So I got a message from my landlord about,
42:22
I don't know, maybe two weeks before my fridge broke.
42:24
So about like two to three and a half weeks ago, maybe
42:26
a month ago, saying, hey, we plan
42:29
on changing your stove and
42:31
dishwasher because they were both kind of older
42:33
appliances. There's a sensory issue on the stove,
42:35
but it still worked. They still worked. But
42:37
he just meant to do this apparently
42:39
and finally was like, yeah, I should probably do it. So I was like,
42:41
okay, cool. Get me measurements and
42:44
I'll order those for you. I said, no problem.
42:46
Did that.
42:47
And then about a week later, the freezer
42:49
broke. What are the, oh,
42:51
that's terrible. And what are the odds of that?
42:54
Well, yeah, exactly. And
42:56
then the next day we realized, oh, it's just the whole
42:58
dang fridge. Actually. So we
43:00
messaged him. So we told him, hey, the
43:02
fridge is actually shot too. So we need
43:05
a new fridge as well. So it's like, okay, I guess I'm
43:07
ordering a three piece appliance set, fridge,
43:10
dishwasher and an oven. Might
43:12
as well knock them all out. Might
43:13
as well. And I'm like, that sounds great.
43:15
In theory, this has been to get
43:18
all of these three items replaced
43:20
just a week from hell.
43:21
Oh my God, I bet. Because do you have to book the elevator
43:24
every time you walk up or down?
43:25
I do have to book an elevator that was done
43:27
Saturday. So this all started last
43:29
Monday. Last Monday is when the
43:32
freezer went and we started this process. So
43:34
he was pretty good. And he was like, okay, I
43:36
got everything sorted out and
43:39
they can't deliver it though until Saturday. So
43:41
like, okay, all right. So on Saturday,
43:43
we booked the elevator and they bring in
43:45
all the appliances and they're
43:47
able to take away the appliances as well. So that was
43:49
one fell swoop. Oh, nice. So the fridge, they
43:52
take it away. We put the new one back into
43:54
its hole. They've all got, you know, where everything's printed. I'd
43:56
imagine they fit pretty snugly. So that
43:58
fits in pretty good. We got a cooking,
44:01
we're laughing. Dishwasher, we needed
44:03
to hire... We didn't end up getting the old
44:06
dishwasher out because we needed actually a
44:08
plumber to come and unhook all the water and hook
44:10
it back up. So we actually just had our
44:12
brand new one in the box sitting in our living room for
44:14
three days until someone could come and deal
44:17
with that. So that ended up happening. But we
44:19
got that fixed and that fits snug in. The
44:22
oven didn't fit in
44:25
the pre-made cabinets and the countertop. And
44:27
it was a stone countertop with zero give.
44:29
So we actually... He
44:31
had to hire someone to come and shave
44:34
off this countertop. And he must
44:36
have hired just this hack off Kijiji
44:38
because
44:38
the mess... He didn't use the Jiffy app. He
44:41
didn't use the Jiffy app. He hired some hack.
44:43
The mess that was in my apartment,
44:46
all this dust from the stone,
44:48
all over the place. He
44:51
comes out and he tells me, okay, I'll finish.
44:53
She fits. We're good. Like, okay, thank you
44:55
very much. He walks out the door. I walk
44:57
into the kitchen and there's dust everywhere.
45:00
You're kidding.
45:00
He didn't bring a shop vac or anything?
45:02
No shop vac. He didn't tarp anything
45:04
off. He just went. He just sanded this whole
45:06
thing down, cut this whole piece
45:09
of stone off and then left. And
45:11
me and my roommate were sitting there so
45:14
angry because we spent three hours
45:16
last night having to wash every
45:18
single dish in our apartment. We had to vacuum
45:20
the entire apartment. We had to wash down everything
45:23
on the walls, on
45:24
the furniture, on everything. It
45:26
was awful, awful all while
45:28
I'm trying to watch the Stanley Cup final. That's
45:31
terrible, bro. I was so angry,
45:34
so angry about that last night. I had to bring
45:36
it to the show and let you all know. But
45:38
everything is finally finished after this two week
45:40
ordeal. Now that we... I mean, it's probably still
45:42
dust that set. That's the sad part. We
45:45
felt we had to open up our door
45:48
last night to get
45:49
clean air in because it's so dusty.
45:52
Yet everyone else is like, there's no clean
45:54
air out there, but it was still cleaner outside
45:57
than inside my apartment. God, that
45:59
is a tough...
45:59
tough one, A.B. There's nothing worse than, I've
46:02
had a couple little hissy fits by myself in the
46:04
apartment.
46:05
Like a dish, my washer dryer
46:07
one time was broken and I remember just having a little
46:10
bit of a snapshot. And it's very humbling
46:12
when you're, you just know that you're the only
46:14
person that can handle your issue. You know what I mean? That's
46:16
like, you're in a- No one else cares.
46:19
No one else cares. That seems like a you problem. My apartment's
46:21
a mess. Yeah, it is. Nobody else in the world
46:24
cares and I gotta handle it like a grown up. And we are small grown
46:26
ups. Yeah. So
46:28
it's very difficult. I understand. I'm glad that it's over. It appears
46:30
like everything is now good. The two weeks
46:32
of annoying, of annoyance is over.
46:35
Okay. And hopefully I can cook for
46:37
you and make you a nice dinner
46:39
in my new oven now that it works.
46:40
I know you were telling me about the sugo. You were telling
46:43
me that farm boy sugo actually is not bad.
46:45
It is. For their passata.
46:47
It's not bad. Yeah, I can, you know, make one potentially.
46:50
Make a lasagna or something like that. Okay.
46:53
We'll make it happen. I like it. We'll
46:55
make it happen. All right. Coming up on the other side, let's get back into
46:57
last night's game. We've barely actually talked about
46:59
it. The cup final. It's not taking up a whole lot
47:01
of oxygen here on Leafs lunch today with the Shane
47:04
Doan news, which became official. But
47:06
Dallas Eakins, former NHL head coach, he will
47:08
join us to touch on it in the next hour. I'm
47:11
Mike DiStefano with Julia Tasherios and the
47:13
Leafs luncheon on TSN 1050. Introducing
