What's up everybody, welcome back to another
0:02
episode of Lights Out.
0:06
Today we're covering a case that just recently
0:08
came to a final
0:11
conclusion. Taylor Coronado,
0:14
which you can later change her last name to
0:16
Shabizness. We've covered
0:18
a lot of monsters on Lights Out and at this
0:21
point I'm really not shocked by
0:23
how evil people can be. On February
0:25
12th, 2020, Taylor took a selfie
0:28
with her phone. On the phone screen
0:30
she had
0:30
a picture of Jeffrey Dahmer on it. I
0:33
will pray that you
0:35
meet the same fate as your idolistic
0:39
Jeffrey Dahmer.
0:41
So have a good life, shit business. She
0:44
noticed a misplaced 5-gallon bucket.
0:46
It was covered by a towel. Taylor lifted
0:49
the towel up and looked inside. In
0:51
the bottom of the bucket,
0:53
she saw Shad's decapitated
0:55
head.
1:01
Lights Out, everybody.
1:12
What's up everybody,
1:14
welcome back to another episode of Lights
1:17
Out. I'm your host
1:19
Josh and I'm joined in this haunted
1:22
studio by my co-host Austin. Hey
1:24
man, how's it going? I'm living
1:27
man, living. Good. I'm
1:29
your host and producer Daniel. What's up man?
1:32
What's up guys? Today we're covering a case
1:34
that just recently came to
1:37
a final conclusion and
1:40
with the right
1:41
punishment. We've covered a lot
1:44
of monsters on Lights Out and at this point
1:46
I'm really not shocked by
1:48
how evil people can be. Yeah, we've
1:50
seen it all here. Pretty much. I
1:53
can't think of any other type of evil
1:55
that's out there that we have not covered
1:58
one way or another.
1:59
But today we're covering a female
2:02
monster who
2:05
used a lot of drugs and that definitely plays
2:07
a huge part in this
2:10
case. However, I do
2:12
think there are some other elements to this that
2:14
play into the horrific murder
2:17
that she committed. And
2:21
man, this one, this
2:23
one is wild. The
2:25
interrogation footage, the police
2:27
body cam footage of finding the victim's body
2:29
is just,
2:31
it's on a whole nother level.
2:34
This occurred in 2022 and you've probably seen it, especially
2:36
if you're from Wisconsin.
2:39
You've probably heard of the Taylor business
2:42
case and Shad Therion,
2:46
but it is a very, very tragic story.
2:49
So we're going to be diving into that here in just
2:51
a moment. I did want to thank everybody out there
2:54
who voted for our
2:56
show in the Signal Awards, which is a podcast
3:01
award ceremony, I guess. We're recording
3:03
this on Monday, October 9th, and we're going to be
3:05
finding out the results on whether or not we won
3:08
a Signal Award tomorrow,
3:10
Tuesday, October 10th. So we
3:12
will post, I'll post a comment on
3:16
YouTube to let you guys know if we want
3:18
or not. But I just want to thank everybody who took the time to
3:20
go and vote for the show. We were voted
3:22
top three paranormal shows
3:24
that submitted to the Signal Awards. So
3:26
at the very least we'll win third place. I'm hoping for
3:29
first place, of course. And then we, there's
3:31
also the People's Choice Award, which
3:33
is what you guys voted for, for best
3:35
paranormal podcasts. So I'm crossing my
3:37
fingers. I'm hoping we, we
3:40
bring home the dub. Yeah. Because
3:43
we work very hard here at Lights Out to bring you this
3:45
content.
3:47
And it's about time that
3:49
we get recognized
3:51
for our hard work
3:52
and for our amazing audience
3:54
out there that listens to us day in,
3:56
day out. We really appreciate all of
3:58
you for helping us. take
4:00
lights out to where it's gone and
4:03
beyond. We have so much more plans especially
4:05
going into the next couple weeks with the Halloween
4:08
episode coming up which will be very fun.
4:10
I think you'll enjoy it quite a bit but
4:15
so much to look forward to. With
4:17
that being said we're just gonna go on and dive right in
4:19
today because there's a lot of ground to cover. There's
4:21
a lot of clips in this one which I think you'll
4:24
find
4:25
very intriguing. So we're
4:28
gonna start this story by talking
4:30
about the victim in this case Mr.
4:33
Shad Rock Therian who's
4:35
born in Green Bay Wisconsin on September 7th 1997
4:37
to Tara Packenek and Michael
4:40
Therian. He grew up with two sisters
4:43
and a brother in the Green Bay area, Bill
4:45
Packers.
4:46
As a child he went to Howard Swamico
4:49
schools and in his teens he went
4:51
to Bayport High. He never finished
4:53
his schooling though and he later dropped out in 2015
4:55
but he was able to find work in the family business
4:58
with his father and grandfather. His
5:00
family described him as a kind and compassionate
5:03
soul. He loved games, camping,
5:05
and spending time with his family. He
5:07
also had a passion for music and he was
5:09
a talented artist who enjoyed wood carving.
5:13
But while in high school he dated a girl he had known
5:15
since middle school named Taylor Coronado
5:19
which she would later change her last name to Shabizness
5:22
which I still haven't been able
5:24
to understand why. Why that name. That's
5:28
really the only word for it. When
5:31
they began dating Shad's father Michael noted that
5:33
Taylor was quote-unquote polite.
5:36
Polite girl at the time I guess. The
5:38
romance was short-lived and they broke up after dating
5:41
for less than two years but they remained friends.
5:44
Now Taylor was born Taylor Denise
5:46
Coronado in Evanston Illinois
5:49
and she was born on November 23rd 1997. Her parents were named
5:53
Arturo and Marla Coronado and
5:55
she grew up with a younger brother named AJ. Together
5:58
they lived in the Chicago area until... Taylor was in fourth
6:00
grade. Her father said when Taylor was
6:03
young, she was a quote unquote normal girl
6:05
who liked volleyball. The family
6:08
then moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin for her father's
6:10
work when she was 12 years old. But
6:12
she later lived with her paternal grandparents in Texas
6:15
for some time before eventually moving
6:17
back to Green Bay with her parents.
6:20
As far as we know, her childhood was mostly
6:23
stable, but the early death of her mother
6:26
started a downward spiral in Taylor's life.
6:29
On May 20th, 2009, her 41 year old mother Marla passed
6:33
away from cirrhosis and complications
6:35
from alcoholism. Taylor
6:37
was only 11 at the time. The
6:39
family had known she was ill, but the moment of her
6:41
death was unexpected. Her father
6:44
Arturo and Marla had spent the previous night
6:46
together watching a movie and everything
6:48
seemed fine, but by the next morning, Marla
6:51
had passed away while sleeping next
6:53
to her husband. The rest of the Coronado
6:55
struggled to cope with Marla's death and
6:58
around this time, Taylor began having problems
7:00
in school. There was an incident
7:02
where she stole a classmate's instrument,
7:05
but to her father, you know, this is a regular kid
7:07
who got into some harmless trouble from time to
7:09
time, but at some point she
7:11
did receive mental health treatment to address
7:14
behavioral issues while in seventh grade.
7:16
Taylor's father Arturo took her to Nicolette
7:19
Psychiatric Center in Green Bay. And
7:21
as he put it, quote, she
7:23
wasn't acting like herself. She
7:26
was prescribed medication after her visit, but
7:28
did not continue to take the medication.
7:32
Her father had also remarried while Taylor was still
7:34
in school, which caused tension at home. And
7:36
when Taylor began dating Shad in high school, her behavior
7:39
only got worse. By her senior
7:41
year, she was expelled from the school
7:43
due to fighting. She ended up moving in
7:45
with her grandparents in Texas once again, and
7:48
she finished her schooling in 2016
7:50
at Catula High School. Then
7:53
she moved back in with her father. She
7:55
later enrolled in Grand Canyon University in Phoenix
7:57
for a short time, studying electronics
7:59
and computer. but she quickly dropped out.
8:02
In her free time, she made trinkets and knickknacks
8:04
out of beads and sold them online. Then
8:06
she found work as a machine operator at Saputo
8:09
Cheese in 2018. She
8:11
was employed there for around two years or so, but
8:13
on February 11, 2020, she left her job. Three
8:16
days later on Valentine's Day, she married her first
8:19
husband, Warren Edwin, Shabow.
8:23
So you kind of see where she business might come from.
8:26
Over the years, Edwin had several run-ins
8:28
with the law. The charges included
8:30
armed burglary, two counts of theft
8:32
as a party to the crime, disorderly
8:35
conduct, resisting an officer, possession,
8:37
and domestic abuse. The couple
8:39
soon started using the last name, Shabizniz
8:42
instead of Shabow, and they got
8:44
each other's names tattooed on their necks.
8:47
Early on in their relationship, they both began
8:50
abusing methamphetamines
8:52
pretty heavily. Taylor had also started
8:55
smoking marijuana by age 12 and
8:57
cocaine and meth by age 18. It
8:59
eventually got to the point that by 22 years old, Taylor
9:02
was abusing meth up to 10 times
9:04
a day. That's quite a bit
9:06
of meth. That's an incredible amount. So
9:08
meth, I mean, we don't have to get into it too
9:11
much, but this is a big player in this case.
9:14
Meth, as most of us know, it's cheap, it's
9:16
inexpensive, it's highly addictive. Here's
9:19
a quote from Dr. Sherry Fandry, who
9:22
is the lead of the Manitoba Addictions Knowledge
9:24
Exchange Center. She said, quote,
9:27
it has the biggest impact of any
9:29
stimulant drug on the reward and pleasure
9:31
system in the brain. Wow. It's
9:34
basically been described as the best feeling
9:36
you've ever had in your life
9:39
multiplied by 100.
9:41
And supposedly the crash, the come down,
9:44
is the worst you've ever felt multiplied by 100,
9:47
down to levels of suicidal depression.
9:50
So imagine abusing methamphetamine 10
9:53
times a day. The ups and
9:55
downs. You were going to your highest highs and
9:57
your lowest lows within a day.
10:00
which is insane to think about. Recovering
10:04
addicts have explained that while on the
10:06
drug, you're basically willing to do
10:08
anything without considering how it affects others,
10:10
which this will obviously
10:13
play into this case here. Well,
10:15
it really puts you into a different reality.
10:18
Yeah. It seems like. You're just not on the same plane
10:21
as someone who's sober, or
10:23
even, I mean, even someone just high on a different drug.
10:25
You're just on a different plane of reality. A
10:29
minority of users also experience
10:31
drug-induced psychosis, which is terrifying.
10:33
It includes visual hallucinations,
10:36
disorientation and memory problems,
10:39
long-term use, which is at
10:41
play here with Taylor, in
10:43
high doses. It's been connected to neurodegeneration
10:47
in the brain. The effects are similar to
10:49
something like they equate it to a stroke
10:52
or physical trauma to your brain. Wow.
10:54
Just think about that for a hot second. Yeah.
10:58
This also isn't even mentioning substitutions
11:00
or additions that might be thrown in. People
11:03
cut the drugs with certain things. Sometimes
11:05
maybe they dilute it and they don't realize
11:07
they're getting a batch that's not diluted, so
11:09
they're doing a bigger dose. And
11:13
things like fentanyl can be added to it, which
11:15
is a whole nother beast in the
11:17
past decade or so. That's been a huge
11:19
problem with meth users and a lot
11:21
of overdoses due to fentanyl.
11:24
So, I mean, suffice
11:26
it to say, meth is a terrible
11:28
drug. You shouldn't do it. It's
11:31
very powerful too. Yeah. Long-term
11:33
effects in high doses just do
11:35
terrible things to your brain and you will
11:37
lose yourself to it. And it like deteriorates
11:40
your body. Yeah. You ever
11:42
see somebody who abuses methamphetamine
11:45
for a period of time? I mean, it just
11:47
completely like, it's crazy. Crazy
11:49
enough, the first time I ever experienced that,
11:52
I was late night, I was watching adults swim
11:55
and they did a, it was a
11:57
Squidbillies episode. Oh, weird. amphetamine
12:00
they were joking about meth labs and stuff but
12:03
then they did a short PSA at the end of the
12:05
episode because they realized like hey we know we're
12:07
joking about this but this is also a serious issue
12:09
and they showed all those images of people
12:11
it's like three years after using
12:14
meth and like their teeth are gone
12:16
their skin is just totally dry
12:19
and wrinkly and stuff they look like they aged 20
12:21
years. Yeah yeah it's
12:23
really a terrible drug. So
12:26
together Taylor and Warren really
12:29
enabled each other's addictions and after
12:31
only four months of marriage police were called to their
12:33
neighborhood. Taylor was found wandering
12:36
incoherently throughout the neighborhood knocking
12:39
on doors until neighbors called the police. When
12:41
officers approached they asked Taylor what she was doing and
12:44
she said she wasn't sure and told
12:46
them that she was currently on a quote unquote
12:48
different planet. So that tells you right
12:50
there just the mind state of
12:53
somebody on meth. Officers
12:55
also noticed track marks on her arms and she admitted to recently
12:58
using drugs. As officers asked more
13:00
questions Taylor became irritated and walked
13:02
away from police straight into oncoming
13:04
traffic. The officer grabbed her and got
13:06
her to safety while another officer searched the county's
13:08
database in a squad car for more
13:11
information on Taylor. And as they
13:13
waited Taylor began saying some strange things
13:15
like asking officer in the squad car if
13:17
they were taking a shit
13:19
and she kept trying to walk into oncoming
13:21
traffic.
13:22
When the officer stopped her again Taylor began kicking
13:25
them. Another officer came to assist
13:27
and subdue her and Taylor fought back until
13:29
they pinned her on the ground. Once
13:31
they got control of her they arrested her and charged
13:33
her with battery on an officer and resisting
13:36
obstructing police officer. But
13:38
she was soon released on bond and
13:41
only two months later Taylor was once again in trouble
13:43
with the law. While in her car
13:45
an officer tried to pull her over for speeding
13:47
but Taylor decided to take off in a high speed chase
13:50
which happens quite a bit. She
13:52
ran several red lights and barely missed a
13:54
cyclist. She then evaded a police
13:56
pit maneuver and fled to a parking lot near her
13:58
father's house. As Taylor ran from
14:00
the vehicle, officers were able to arrest her,
14:03
and after searching her vehicle they found meth, a
14:05
syringe, an elastic band, and cotton balls.
14:08
Several more charges at that point were added to her,
14:11
a rap sheet including fleeing, eluding
14:13
an officer, resisting obstructing an officer,
14:15
bail jumping, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
14:18
She was then released on bond again, which is crazy
14:21
she was able to bond out after these are
14:23
pretty serious charges. At this
14:25
time she was required to wear an ankle monitor
14:28
and a pharma check drug use detection
14:30
sweat patch. So
14:32
the reason she's getting released on bond,
14:35
even though these are serious charges, is I'm assuming
14:37
because this was the height of COVID-19.
14:40
This is a time when
14:42
they were having, they were struggling keeping
14:44
inmates in jails and prisons and
14:46
they also were threatened with litigation
14:49
if they didn't control that to some degree.
14:52
So a lot of people were just using
14:54
these ankle monitoring systems or drug
14:57
use detection systems to sweat. So
14:59
this is in kind of like keeping the jails for the violent
15:02
crimes. Yeah, exactly. It's a drug
15:04
user. They know they're going to reoffend
15:06
rather than lock them up, savor
15:09
them for the more violent offenders is
15:12
my suspicion. So ankle
15:14
monitoring and drug detection
15:16
patches became way more common around
15:18
this time. An ankle monitor
15:20
typically tracks someone's location with GPS.
15:23
That's about it. Some do other things, but in
15:26
this case it was just GPS tracking. The
15:28
sweat patch that was mentioned is a,
15:31
that's the pharma check drug use detection
15:33
sweat patch.
15:35
That is a drug testing system that you place on
15:37
your arm. You keep there to monitor
15:39
any evidence of drugs through your sweat.
15:42
Now they claim that these are highly accurate,
15:44
can't be tampered with, etc,
15:45
etc.
15:47
Of course, every monitoring
15:49
system will claim that, but we
15:52
know that there's a lot of controversy with
15:54
these mechanisms,
15:56
especially the ankle monitoring
15:59
system, which we'll see probably problems with in this
16:01
case several times and
16:03
the accuracy and reliability of these devices
16:06
has always been come into question. Unfortunately,
16:09
these devices were just the
16:12
alternative to backing
16:14
people in jails and prisons during COVID-19.
16:17
So this
16:17
was the alternative that we were kind of left
16:20
with. And so Taylor was just a part of this.
16:23
A few months after Taylor's arrest, her husband
16:25
Warren was also arrested on November 13th, 2020 during
16:29
a traffic incident. Ash Wabanon
16:31
police discovered 46 grams
16:33
of meth and after searching his phone
16:35
police found evidence of Warren being connected to
16:38
a large drug ring. He later pled
16:40
guilty to possession with intent to deliver
16:42
and was sentenced to a little less than four years
16:44
in prison. On social media, Warren
16:46
had changed his profile picture to his own mugshot
16:49
and later claimed that he was framed.
16:52
Taylor also defended her husband on social media
16:54
while he was in prison. Not long after
16:57
she ended up breaking the monitoring rules in
16:59
January 2021 after she removed the
17:01
device from her ankle. She was caught
17:04
and forced to wear the monitor again, but
17:06
only a month later she was caught removing the device
17:09
again. And around this time Taylor also
17:11
realized she was pregnant, supposedly
17:13
with Warren's child. Court documents
17:15
later claim the child was Warren's, but the timeframe
17:18
doesn't really add up. It isn't clear
17:20
if Warren is the biological father and
17:22
the newborn would later take on Taylor's maiden
17:24
name, Coronado. In
17:27
June 2021 Taylor was scheduled for a court appearance
17:29
for the charges against her, but she never showed up.
17:32
A warrant was put out for arrest, but she showed up to court
17:34
a few days later. The warrant was cancelled
17:37
and she was allowed to stay out of jail on bond.
17:40
Two months later Taylor pled no contest to fleeing
17:42
or eluding an officer, resisting obstructing
17:44
an officer and battery against an officer and
17:47
all other charges were dropped. She
17:49
was given three years probation and three months in jail,
17:52
which was later reduced to house arrest with
17:54
an ankle monitor. In October 2021
17:57
after her house arrest was over Taylor traveled
17:59
to Texas to be with her paternal grandparents.
18:02
And while there she gave birth to a son she
18:04
named Mateo Coronado. Child
18:07
protective services soon took the baby, but
18:09
a month later Taylor's grandparents in Texas took
18:11
Mateo into their home and they later filed
18:13
for adoption. Shout
18:17
out HelloFresh for sponsoring today's episode.
18:20
I'm a huge fan of HelloFresh. I've been using them
18:22
for at least two years now. And
18:24
actually I eat HelloFresh three to four times
18:27
a week. I absolutely love HelloFresh
18:29
because they eliminate the need to go to
18:31
the grocery store. They've saved me so much money from
18:33
ordering takeout and delivery where that
18:36
just seems like it gets more and more expensive every day.
18:38
Not only that, I'm eating nutritious, fresh,
18:41
home cooked meals, which I absolutely love. And
18:43
HelloFresh really has some of the
18:45
most banging recipes out
18:48
there. Just yesterday I had a pasta
18:50
salad. It was like a Greek pasta salad. It had a cheese,
18:53
it had onion, tomato,
18:55
bell pepper, with like this kind
18:57
of vinaigrette in it. It was absolutely
19:00
scrumptious. Today I'm having turkey
19:03
tostadas, which I'm very excited about.
19:05
I always love their Mexican recipes. HelloFresh
19:08
does all the shopping for you, just shows
19:10
up in a box at your door. It's all ready to go. It's
19:12
pre-portioned. You don't have to go out and buy anything. The
19:14
only things you have to add to it are butter,
19:17
salt, pepper, cooking oil,
19:19
stuff like that. And then within 30 minutes, you
19:22
have a delicious meal on the table. I
19:24
love jazzing up the meals with my own spices
19:27
and really just making it my own. You
19:29
can also turn to the HelloFresh market for yummy
19:31
add-ons and enjoy the season's limited time
19:33
fall flavor lineup based on
19:36
desserts like the apple cider cake with caramel sauce.
19:38
Oh, that sounds bomb. Or please
19:40
the crowd with appetizers like the barbecue pulled pork
19:42
nachos great for game day. And
19:44
don't forget the mini pumpkin cheesecake,
19:46
perfect for a me time
19:49
treat. HelloFresh is actually cheaper
19:51
than grocery shopping and 25% less expensive
19:53
than takeout. And I gotta say, I think their produce is
19:55
better than the produce I get at my local grocery
19:58
store for whatever reason, because it
20:00
goes from the farm to your table in
20:03
seven days. So if you haven't tried HelloFresh, now
20:05
is the time. Go to hellofresh.com slash 50lightsout

20:25
So over these next few months, Taylor's behavior
20:28
got increasingly strange. Keep
20:31
in mind, she's on probation. Her
20:33
husband is currently incarcerated and
20:36
her child was recently taken away from her.
20:38
So keep all those things in mind. And
20:41
much of what we know about Taylor during this small
20:43
timeframe before the murder
20:46
is just her online activity. So
20:49
she continued to talk about her loyalty to her
20:51
incarcerated husband through social
20:53
media posts. One post said, quote,
20:56
I have an eight in two weeks. His
20:58
bond money comes first. But
21:01
by January 2022, something had happened. Their
21:05
relationship had quickly fallen apart. One
21:08
post read, double-cross my loyalty.
21:11
That's one thing you'll never get back. Let's
21:13
play. I'm assuming
21:15
he cheated somehow.
21:17
Yeah, I'm not exactly sure. Three
21:20
days later after that post, she posted, quote,
21:23
I got hitched to show them my commitment,
21:25
loyalty, and dedication to them that
21:28
I was never gonna be how I used to be.
21:31
Then they turn around and fuck on me. There's
21:33
no way I'll ever go into another
21:35
relationship. Hashtag can't
21:38
trust no one. And
21:41
her last post that we know of came
21:43
that same day and said, quote, went off
21:45
and told an addict I'll never stop buying
21:47
you dope so I could sit back, watch
21:50
you die. And it's not really clear
21:52
who exactly she's referencing in this post,
21:55
but
21:55
an underlying sense
21:58
of violence there, I would say.
22:00
Around the same time too, she began searching
22:03
things about Jeffrey Dahmer online.
22:07
Everyone kind of searches about Jeffrey Dahmer.
22:09
He's one of the biggest names in crime, right?
22:12
But she was searching strange things like Jeffrey
22:14
Dahmer, Jeff Boyardee, which
22:17
is a meme mashup of Jeffrey Dahmer
22:19
and Chef Boyardee, Jeffrey
22:21
Dahmer's butt, and Jeffrey
22:23
Dahmer walking all sexy into
22:25
court. So these are literal Google
22:28
searches. Those are her Google searches,
22:30
which were later acquired by
22:33
investigators. So one
22:35
thing that I can think of for why she
22:37
might be searching this at this time period, again, this
22:39
is 2022. The Netflix
22:42
show. The Netflix show came out. Exactly. So
22:44
there was a ton of buzz around it. And I assume
22:47
she probably watched the Netflix show
22:49
and then wanted to know more or found
22:52
it. For sure. That's
22:54
good to note too. But then on February 12th, 2020,
22:57
Taylor took a selfie with her phone,
22:59
which is this cringe. And
23:04
on the phone, she had a picture of Jeffrey
23:06
Dahmer on it. You can see it. It
23:08
looks like she's kind of laying down and the
23:11
phone's resting by her face and she's smiling with
23:14
just an old picture of Jeffrey Dahmer. That's very creepy.
23:17
Super weird. And only 10 days later, Taylor
23:19
would go from a no-name meth addict
23:21
on house arrest to one of the most
23:24
infamous killers of 2022. Yeah.
23:27
So caution. This is where things
23:30
go really bad and become
23:33
very graphic. After
23:35
the relationship with her husband fell apart, Taylor
23:37
reconnected with her high school ex-boyfriend,
23:39
Shad Therian. On the
23:41
night of February 22nd, 2022, Shad decided to stay
23:44
at his mother Tara Pakenick's house on Stony
23:47
Brook Lane. Usually Shad
23:49
lived with his father, but he would occasionally go over to
23:51
his mother's place to eat and do laundry.
23:54
Taylor borrowed her roommate's van and picked Shad up
23:56
around 9.30 pm that night. She
23:58
was with another friend, Al. Xander Ganon, who
24:00
went by AJ, whom they both knew from
24:03
school. The three of them bought drugs before
24:05
heading to Taylor's apartment on Eastman Avenue.
24:08
She was living with a 53-year-old man named
24:10
Scott Thomas, and the plan was to hang out
24:12
at the apartment that night and smoke weed and
24:15
do some meth. A little past midnight,
24:18
Taylor gave Shad a haircut and took a picture
24:20
of him on her phone. AJ later
24:22
reported that everything seemed fine while they were hanging
24:24
out, and he left soon after. Taylor
24:26
and Shad then took Trasadone together.
24:29
So here's another drug at play. Trasadone
24:32
is a prescription sedative and an antidepressant
24:35
that can be used recreationally. Its
24:37
street name is called Sleep
24:39
Easy. It doesn't
24:41
cause euphoria, but it produces this
24:44
relaxing, calming effect, and a
24:46
lot of people who take it often take
24:48
it with other drugs to increase that effect.
24:51
The common ones are alcohol, ecstasy,
24:54
and you can guess it, methamphetamine. It's
24:57
also important to note that by now,
25:00
Taylor has marijuana, meth, and
25:03
Trasadone in her system. Possibly
25:05
more that we don't know of, but that is the
25:07
concoction that she's dealing with chemically
25:10
at this point in the
25:12
night. So as we move into the next
25:15
events that happen, that is important to keep
25:17
in mind is that she's clearly
25:20
very, very high on
25:21
multiple drugs and substances. So
25:24
in the early morning hours of February 23rd, both
25:26
Taylor and Shad drove Scott's van back to his
25:28
mother's house and went downstairs to the basement.
25:32
Neither of them saw or spoke to Tara or her
25:34
boyfriend who were in the house. Tara
25:37
assumed that both her son and Taylor were home
25:39
because she heard Taylor's voice and saw the van on the
25:41
street. Around 2.30am,
25:43
Tara woke up to the storm door on the side of the house
25:46
slamming shut. This door was right
25:48
at the top of the basement stairs, so
25:50
Tara figured it was Taylor leaving the house.
25:53
And a few moments later she heard the van's engine
25:55
starting out on the street and driving away.
25:58
After getting out of bed, Tara noticed that the basement was closed. light
26:00
was on, which was fairly odd. So
26:02
she went downstairs to see what was going on, thinking her
26:04
son Shad might have left it on. When
26:07
she went down there, she didn't see him at first, so she
26:09
figured he had left with Taylor. But
26:11
just before heading back upstairs, she
26:14
noticed a misplaced 5 gallon bucket
26:16
on the floor beside the bottom of the basement
26:19
stairs. It was covered by a
26:21
towel. Out of curiosity,
26:23
Tara lifted the towel up and looked inside.
26:27
And in the bottom of the bucket, resting
26:29
in a pool of blood, she
26:32
saw Shad's decapitated head.
26:35
I can't even imagine, I mean
26:37
it was probably just surreal
26:40
in that moment, it was just like I'm not seeing what I'm actually
26:42
seeing here. Tara
26:45
then ran back upstairs and woke up her
26:47
boyfriend, Steve Hendricks.
26:49
When she told him what she had found,
26:51
he didn't believe her, so he went downstairs
26:53
and had to look for himself.
26:56
And as he looked down into the bloody mess, he could have processed
26:58
what he had seen.
27:00
He couldn't tell exactly what was inside the bucket,
27:02
but Tara promised him that it
27:04
was her son's head. That's
27:07
when they called the non-emergency number.
27:10
It's weird that they called the non-emergency number, I
27:12
would be calling 911. Yeah, that's an
27:14
interesting point to bring up. He
27:17
was still in denial, Tara's boyfriend.
27:19
So they didn't want to like overreact
27:21
because there was something else. He still thought,
27:23
which you'll hear in the phone call, he still kind of
27:25
thought that maybe she was just going through
27:28
something and he didn't really know.
27:30
He went down and looked in the bucket and we'll see later
27:33
in some clips of the trial. He
27:35
looked down and he thought it was like an animal
27:38
parts or something. He saw the hair and he
27:40
did see the head, but I don't know, it's kind of
27:42
one of those things where you just can't process what
27:44
the hell you're seeing. I can imagine. Because it's so
27:46
horrific, right? That would be the last thing
27:48
that you would think you would be seeing. Right,
27:51
yeah, no problem. I understand how
27:53
you think such as a dead animal
27:55
in there or something. Right, yeah, so that's
27:57
why they called the non-emergency number because
27:59
he was... still kind of in denial about it. He
28:01
thought his girlfriend was having some sort of
28:03
episode. Let's listen
28:06
to some of the audio from that call.
28:09
I
28:30
don't know what's happening.
28:50
He's
29:00
claiming it has five. Oh,
29:02
is he? He's 25.
29:09
Is he missing or? No,
29:11
he was here yesterday with
29:13
some check and then now it says nobody's
29:16
here. And she came
29:18
up to use the restroom a couple of times. And
29:22
they call and they call about. She's saying that
29:24
she hears the phone down there too. Okay,
29:26
is she with you right now? Yes,
29:29
I won't. She's not there. She's going to
29:31
freak out. I don't know what to do. Okay,
29:34
alright. She's down there.
29:36
And you said you went down there, correct?
29:39
Yeah, I lifted it whole, but
29:41
I can't. I can't see very well, but I can't.
29:44
So there's something in the
29:46
bucket. There's someone
29:48
in the bucket.
29:50
Okay.
29:54
She might lift again. I don't know
29:56
what to help him.
29:59
Do you think that? I
30:02
think that she has with the owner. Don't
30:04
put them down, welcome. I mean, I
30:06
can't. I call them. She's a real freak dog
30:09
and can't take any off. Can
30:13
I contact her? Yes, you
30:15
can. Hello. Hi,
30:18
Tara. So do you have something going on? Pray
30:20
positive my son had his in a bucket.
30:24
I know, but maybe he's like, what
30:26
makes you think that?
30:28
I want to take a bucket. When
30:30
did she see?
30:32
Except when I told you. Okay.
30:35
Where's the
30:37
where's the rest of the body at? No,
30:41
I am. Okay.
30:45
When's the last time you saw your son? Well,
30:50
I had 21 days, so I
30:53
picked up some of the guys
30:55
on the list.
30:57
And, you know, he normally stayed
30:59
here. He was staying here for a few days. He
31:02
was here a couple
31:04
of hours. Then he left
31:06
with Taylor. And
31:08
then the first family.
31:11
Taylor. Who's that?
31:15
What's the last time you saw him?
31:18
Well, he left with her. No
31:22
one was stable. He came back. I
31:25
believed he was at one of your meetings
31:28
Monday night. And
31:33
I think I slept all day yesterday.
31:36
So I received him on
31:38
the night, physically. I
31:41
thought they were sleeping all day. I
31:44
was going to the
31:44
little island just three
31:47
two days. And he's
31:49
concerned. What do you mean?
31:53
You know what I mean? And
31:55
then I hurt
31:58
my door. And
32:00
her
32:01
minivan started
32:03
and I went downstairs, I looked at the bathroom,
32:05
the light cloud in the basement. I
32:07
heard the mop and I looked around from
32:10
there. And then
32:12
when I turned around, I came back upstairs and I was upside
32:15
down the bucket. How old were you? And
32:17
I'm like, oh great, that's my dad out here all
32:19
day yesterday. I was picked up in the bucket. And
32:22
I looked and I was like, isn't that bucket?
32:24
What
32:24
is your son's name? Like,
32:27
back there?
32:29
It's really kind of a bizarre call. Yeah,
32:32
isn't it? Because clearly
32:34
the dispatchers, things
32:37
that they're just making this up or hallucinating
32:39
or he's like, he
32:41
can't even wrap his head around this. Right, which I almost
32:44
don't even blame him. Someone calls you and
32:46
they're like, I think I found my son's head in the bucket.
32:49
It just sounds insane.
32:52
But yeah,
32:53
he does treat her kind of strangely. If
32:55
that is
32:58
coming out of someone's mouth, you probably should send somebody
33:00
to go check in on them whether or not it's true.
33:03
Just to make sure they're okay. Because I mean, that'd be
33:06
a serious hallucination. Yeah,
33:08
which I think even in we'll be watching
33:10
one of the body cam, uh, footages
33:13
from when they go down and discover it,
33:15
uh, you can hear
33:17
one of the officers radio
33:19
in and he calls off, you know, how they
33:21
have all their list of codes. Yeah. I looked
33:23
at one of the codes he mentions and he's like, this is not
33:26
a mental health checkup. Because
33:28
we thought it initially was just a word
33:31
for the, um, his mother.
33:33
But yeah, they realized it was actually serious.
33:37
Yeah. At 3 37 a.m.
33:40
two police officers showed up at their house. They walked
33:42
into the side door from the driveway and
33:44
there was still doubt that Tara had actually found her
33:47
son severed head in her basement, but the two
33:49
officers would soon find out. Sadly,
33:52
she wasn't lying.
33:53
Here's some of that body cam footage.
34:00
I'm sorry. Oh.
34:04
Oh. Did
34:18
you both see this? I opened
34:20
the tunnel. I picked up the tunnel and I drove
34:22
it down. What the fuck did it mean? She
34:26
like to say the top of my face and go,
34:28
hey, how did you fucking put it? Okay,
34:31
we'll stay with those two hours, we'll see. Yeah.
34:35
We're going to go right there. A lot
34:37
of lights, a lot of crackers, or something. Mm-hmm. I
34:41
don't know. You know, I just
34:43
keep quiet.
34:56
Good. Good. Why?
35:03
Why don't you go over there and follow our
35:05
fucking line?
35:08
This is great. Oh, no, please.
35:12
Mm-hmm.
35:22
This is all right. Listen.
35:27
Okay. Hold on, please.
35:34
That's
35:38
not right. That's
35:42
not right. Oh,
35:45
I guess. 4-F1
35:47
to VHSM.
35:57
I know you're busy over there, but... This
36:00
is actually what it's gonna be. It's not gonna be a 961 thing
36:03
or 96 thing. So,
36:06
where are you gonna see it?
36:08
So, those who are listening, they basically just went down
36:10
in the basement and they're kind
36:12
of in disbelief. They have to check the bucket several
36:15
times because even they can't really wrap their head around
36:17
what's in there. That's pretty evident
36:20
just by how calm they're
36:22
being in the situation. I mean, it's,
36:24
I mean, I'm sure it's not something they see every day. They
36:26
definitely see gruesome
36:29
crime scenes, but every day you find
36:31
somebody's severed head in a bucket. Right. So,
36:35
as they're down there kind of looking around
36:37
the basement, they're doing their best not to disturb the
36:39
crime scene. And, you know, they made the right call,
36:41
you know, get the higher ups involved,
36:43
get more units out there to secure the crime scene because
36:46
that's what it is at this point. And
36:48
they also noticed what looked like pieces of human
36:50
flesh and blood on the floor near the mattress.
36:53
After looking in the bucket one last time to confirm
36:56
what they were seeing that it was a human head
36:58
inside, the officers secured the scene.
37:01
Meanwhile, a few officers were sent over to Taylor's apartment
37:03
since Shad's mother confirmed that Taylor was the
37:05
last person seen with her son. At
37:08
around 5.11 a.m., officers arrived
37:10
at the apartment. They spotted the van in
37:12
the parking lot of the apartment complex and searched
37:14
it with flashlights from the outside. The
37:16
inside was filled with junk, including a crock-pot
37:19
box. They didn't know this then, but
37:21
Shad severed left leg and both
37:23
sides were inside that box. Near
37:26
the front of the car, they noticed a bloody footprint in
37:28
the snow. As they stood near the car, the
37:30
van unlocked. Taylor had actually been washing
37:33
them from her apartment building and she unlocked
37:35
the car with her key fob. She
37:37
then came outside the front door of her apartment building
37:40
and when one of the officers asked if she knew why they
37:42
were there, she said she thought they were
37:44
there for a warrant for her arrest and
37:46
then admitted to removing her ankle monitor
37:49
again. While they handcuffed her,
37:51
they also noticed that she had blood
37:53
on her hands. They kept
37:55
Taylor on the stairs outside of her apartment while they
37:57
went into search. They found the door open. apartment
38:00
open and inside investigators discovered several
38:03
cell phones, marijuana, and three syringes stuck
38:05
together with an unknown substance.
38:08
Blood that would later be identified as shads was also
38:10
discovered on Taylor's apartment door and
38:12
light switch, including the bloody footprint
38:15
they had previously found outside.
38:18
Taylor's roommate Scott Thomason came outside
38:20
where they arrested him and took both of them to
38:22
the police station. While at the station,
38:24
they photographed the blood and the injuries on Taylor's
38:26
hands and they also found blood on her clothing
38:28
which was later confirmed to be shads. She
38:31
changed into a yellow jumpsuit before detectives
38:33
brought her into an interview room where they asked
38:35
her some questions. After they read
38:37
off her rights, they questioned her for about six hours
38:40
with a few breaks in between. Taylor
38:42
was surprisingly cooperative and calm
38:44
throughout the interviews. When they first asked
38:46
her what had happened, she said she didn't know. She
38:49
just claimed that she had quote unquote blacked out.
38:52
She told them how she and shad have been using meth,
38:54
which she called quote the shit
38:57
that she also admitted that once they got back to shad's
38:59
mom's house, he put a choke chain
39:02
around his neck so she could choke
39:04
him, which they had done before. Here's
39:08
some different interview clips we'd
39:10
like you to see.
39:12
Just a forewarning the audio isn't great,
39:15
so we'll put subtitles underneath to
39:18
help you follow along.
39:28
Have you used what we call props in
39:30
the past? Yes.
39:32
What? One
39:34
thing, dill bill? Dads or
39:36
rope chain or unroll error
39:38
rate?
39:40
Um
39:42
yeah, I
39:45
showed the dill bill in ads and
39:48
all. In
39:49
the past or just recently?
39:52
When you're in zag wash, when you put the hot on
39:54
the bed, yeah. The
40:00
shingles are on the snacking, so I choked on
40:02
them. Then you
40:04
just realized that he was going to die or what? I'm
40:08
just like, shit.
40:10
I think I went a little too far. I
40:12
was like, I was black and I was doing alright. And
40:15
you're like, aw. And then I was
40:17
like, I'm on my shade very purple and fuck. I'm
40:19
like, I don't know if he's fucking good or
40:21
he's
40:22
good. But then when I woke
40:24
up, like, no, during the black, I'm
40:26
like, shit. Like, he was
40:28
coughing on blood on me. I
40:31
don't know. I just said I'm gone. How are you? I'm
40:34
having trouble. You
40:37
mean the company said that when you were talking
40:39
to your cough on blood, you were kind of like, well,
40:42
going as far as I'm going to keep going. Did
40:44
you realize that by continuing that,
40:46
that we told?
40:48
Oh, yeah. Because I felt bad. Because
40:51
I'm like, damn, he's going to be using that. I'm just like,
40:53
man, it's up to you. So
40:55
you realize that by continuing that, you
40:57
mean that you may actually feel it.
40:59
He was, I swear to God, he was
41:01
telling me just like, it's
41:03
all on my phone. And I did.
41:06
Oh, come on.
41:09
Oh. So your child
41:11
went back to Sharon's mom's
41:13
house. How did you
41:15
get it? Was that
41:17
anybody home?
41:19
I was.
41:22
What? I'm telling you, it was.
41:26
Okay. Was
41:29
anybody home? Did you encounter anybody?
41:32
I understand. His mom was here. Here.
41:36
Here. Is that your mom's name? Yes.
41:39
Damn. I
41:41
can't believe I left that. I'm
41:45
always going to look at you. I
41:47
got you there. So
41:49
we're going to take the hits on. All
41:51
right. Do you like that?
41:54
I like
41:54
that. I like that. I like that. I
41:57
like that. I like that.
41:59
I like that. Yeah,
42:00
she just did it by too and what would I do
42:02
with the body parts?
42:11
So
42:14
it's like um yeah It's
42:20
absolutely the basement out again,
42:24
and um, I know I forgot the head, I
42:26
wanted the head Did you bring
42:28
anything with me? It's in the
42:30
van. What? In the van.
42:38
I think it's a foot. A leg. A
42:40
leg maybe. I'm
42:42
like under real and then like you
42:45
know she's looking on the face like I got
42:47
a baby. I
42:49
got a baby and that's what I did. So it's gonna
42:55
be, it's gonna be a foot or
42:57
a leg in the van.
42:59
And then um,
43:02
yeah. What did you do with the head?
43:03
I forgot I was out in the van for a long time.
43:06
Well you do with the head. But hey I put it
43:08
in that bucket. That's black puppy. Black bucket?
43:11
With um, slime down top. Okay.
43:14
Uh, I mean we're just, we're just leaving.
43:18
Lees ahead? Head's still
43:20
in the bucket. It's right by the stairs.
43:23
By the stairs? But
43:30
when did you see it?
43:33
You know cutting up his body. I
43:35
don't know like almost right away I was sucking
43:37
and cutting down the center. I
43:40
want to help the rest of his body parts. Did that take all
43:42
day? Did you?
43:48
Did it take a long time to go up?
43:50
Yeah it was just like I was nodding down. I
43:53
can see you're kind of sitting and cutting
43:55
on in and out. Got you kicking any of the joints?
43:58
Should've, I feel like it was gross.
44:00
Do you remember the
44:04
daylight at all? Yeah,
44:07
when I looked at the window and I think the daylight. Was
44:14
the body together still there? Yeah,
44:16
it was still there. I
44:18
had a phone call for that throughout with my
44:20
phone.
44:22
So it took a while to cut
44:24
the rest of the body out?
44:27
All messed up too. So,
44:30
thank you. I
44:34
grind it on, I put the dick in his
44:36
eyes. You grind it on?
44:38
Yeah, I grind it on.
44:40
Did you ever put his person here with
44:42
you either?
44:44
What did you say about him?
44:48
Yeah, if he can be ordered to
44:51
perform to all of him, what
44:53
kind of house do you use that? Yeah, no,
44:56
no, no, no, no, no, no, no. It
44:59
was just like that. It was part of a lot of the
45:01
house to put things on. Yeah. Okay.
45:10
And was that part of playing with him or? That
45:13
is part of playing with him. That is part of playing with
45:15
him.
45:16
Did you? Actually, I was just a mess.
45:19
I was just ever in a mess. I was doing too.
45:22
It was so vile. It was just so vile.
45:25
Yeah. God. The
45:27
way she's so... She's just talking about
45:29
it so nonchalantly too. Yeah. It's disgusting.
45:32
She's
45:33
talking about how she should have done more drugs
45:35
during it too. It's just like, what?
45:38
What is going through your mind right now? So
45:41
it's obvious too that by the next morning when
45:43
this interrogation is taking place, she's like,
45:45
come off the drugs at that point. At least off
45:47
the high of them. This was a controversial
45:50
point in the trial. The
45:52
defense made the argument that
45:54
she's still on drugs during these interviews.
45:57
Because it's in her system. But it is, I mean,
45:59
this has been... quite a while after,
46:01
and the interview process did
46:04
take like six hours, so
46:06
there's argument both ways if
46:09
she's still under the influence or not. I don't
46:11
know, that seems like a weak argument to me. I mean, she's
46:13
very lucid, and for
46:15
somebody who claims to have blacked out, she
46:18
clearly remembers everything that she did down to
46:20
the details. Yeah, the judge uses
46:22
that exact terminology, lucid, during
46:24
that. So it's like, even if she is on
46:27
drugs, she's still very coherent and lucid
46:29
and knows what she's saying, right? But
46:32
because there was a lot of back and forth, if you wanna go
46:34
check out the footage of the interviews,
46:37
help yourself, it's very long, there's a lot of footage,
46:39
so we just took some of the core elements,
46:42
but I'll basically sum up her confession
46:45
in chronological order just to help everybody
46:47
out. She's basically reenacting
46:49
Jeffrey Dahmer. Yes, yeah, exactly.
46:53
And the fact that she wanted the head, too, isn't that
46:55
very Dahmer-esque, too? But she
46:57
forgot it. What's going on there?
47:01
It's beginning to look a lot like
47:04
Christmas. Okay, sorry, too soon. But
47:06
the holidays are right around the corner, and when
47:09
the holidays come, everything
47:11
seems to slow down, especially when it comes to shipping
47:13
and mailing. So avoid
47:15
the post office, because if you've ever been to the post office during
47:17
the holidays, you will regret
47:20
going there the second you step foot on the
47:22
post office property. I know I have so many times,
47:25
so much so that I don't go anymore. I
47:27
just use stamps.com, which basically
47:29
allows me to have my own personal post office right
47:32
at my house or office. I can mail and
47:34
ship everything. I can even schedule pickups through
47:37
the stamps.com mobile app and
47:39

47:42
But best of all, they give you huge carrier
47:44
discounts, up to 84% off USPS
47:46
and UPS rates, which just help you out
47:48
in the holiday season. Seriously, anybody
47:51
can use this, whether you're somebody who just sends a
47:53
bunch of packages, you have a big family, or you have
47:55
an online business, stamps.com
47:57
will save you time and money. All
48:00
you need is a computer, a
48:02

48:12
and fastest shipping options. We've been using it
48:14
for merch, for my CBD company. For
48:16

48:19
I even use it personally. Even for a return,
48:21
sometimes it comes in handy. So get your

48:43
So Chad and
48:46
Taylor, they went down
48:48
to his mother's basement to hook up. They
48:51
put a dog's choke chain around
48:53
Chad's neck while she choked him and performed
48:55
sexual acts. Once she started to
48:57
see that he was dying, she claimed
49:00
that she found it satisfying, so she continued
49:02
to choke him. He even tried
49:04
to resist and fight back at one point, but
49:06
she kept on choking him. She admitted
49:09
that she was excited because she could feel his heartbeat
49:11
slowing, and it took about three to five
49:14
minutes to kill Chad. She
49:16
then sexually assaulted his body,
49:19
performing oral sex and using the dildo
49:21
on him, she claims, all while
49:23
mutilating his corpse as well. She
49:26
then used a blue storage container that she
49:28
had found in the basement to collect the blood
49:30
as she dismembered the body with several
49:32
kitchen knives that she had found upstairs.
49:35
If you remember when they made
49:38
that phone call to police, they even mentioned that she
49:40
had come upstairs a few times because they
49:42
thought she was using the restroom, but it
49:44
was more likely that she was grabbing the
49:47
kitchen knives to dismember Chad's
49:49
body.
49:50
She then emptied the blood down the basement drain,
49:53
which was near a shower. While dismembering
49:55
the rest of the body, she claimed she had dozed off
49:58
several times from the drug use. but
50:00
still continued to perform sexual acts.
50:04
She then used bags and boxes around the basement
50:06
and she found to store his body parts in.
50:08
The plan was to bring all the body parts with her
50:11
but somewhere along the way she
50:14
became quote lazy and paranoid
50:16
she said and she forgot
50:18
the head. She placed Chad's head
50:20
in the bucket to save it for later but
50:24
she only in the end she only ended up taking his
50:26
left leg, his left thigh
50:28
and his right thigh that she stored
50:31
in that crock pot box that the police
50:33
even saw in the back of her van or
50:35
her roommate's van. And this entire
50:38
time she most likely had meth
50:40
weed and tresidone in her system and
50:42
like I said earlier there's still some arguments
50:44
whether she was under the influence or not during
50:47
these police interviews but I
50:49
think we can both agree on she's very lucid. Sounds
50:52
like she knows what she's saying. She sounds
50:55
maybe a bit stupid but she
50:59
doesn't sound incoherent. No
51:01
and she's having emotional reactions
51:03
to them. Definitely not in remorseful way.
51:06
But she's like laughing and
51:08
acting like she enjoyed it. Yeah
51:11
she's bummed that she forgot the body parts.
51:13
She was like oh I forgot that like she's
51:15
bummed about that so very sick.
51:19
But after the interview Taylor was taken to the hospital
51:21
to get stitches for self-inflicted wounds on
51:23
her hands where she accidentally cut herself while
51:26
dismembering Chad. Back at the station
51:28
she answered a few more questions to confirm
51:30
what she had previously told them and
51:32
then the officers told her she was going to jail which
51:35
somehow surprised her. In
51:37
response to her surprise a detective then
51:40
asked her a hypothetical question.
51:42
He asked that shouldn't a person
51:44
who murdered and dismembered someone go to
51:46
jail and Taylor responded oh fuck
51:49
yeah yeah that shit is fucked
51:51
up so like I don't even know like
51:54
goddamn. During the
51:56
interviews investigators were searching for shad's remains
51:58
in the basement of his mother's house. Blood
52:00
stains were found on a pillow, the mattress,
52:02
and underneath the bed where it looked like it had been cleaned
52:05
up. They also found blood near the shower
52:07
drain, which also had signs of cleaning. Near
52:10
a Pac-Man arcade machine, investigators found
52:12
a dog choke collar, and inside a box
52:14
and a wood cabinet against the wall, they found a flesh-covered
52:17
dildo. The dildo was later tested
52:19
for Shad's DNA, but the results came back inconclusive.
52:23
After searching through the 5 gallon bucket, they discovered that
52:25
Shad's head and blood weren't the only things inside.
52:28
There
52:28
was also a kitchen steak knife, a pocket
52:30
knife,
52:31
a jelly rancher, a metal nail, a
52:33
shaving razor, and Shad's
52:36
genitals. Detectives also found
52:38
body parts inside a pink and black underarm
52:40
or backpack, and some of the parts were wrapped
52:42
in plastic shopping bags, but others
52:45
weren't. They also found body parts in a
52:47
blue storage bin on the floor covered with a
52:49
blanket and clothes. Inside
52:51
was a carving knife and several organs.
52:54
Shad's upper torso, along with his arms that were still
52:56
attached, were also found inside the storage
52:58
bin. Other body parts were also found
53:00
in a blue duffel bag on a dresser in the basement.
53:04
Beside the bag were bloody Lysol wipes that looked like they
53:06
had been used to clean up the crime scene, and next
53:08
to the wipes were three kitchen knives.
53:11
One of the kitchen knives had once been serrated,
53:13
but it was now dull. The paring knife
53:15
was bent, and the steak knife's tip was
53:18
broken. The metal tip was later
53:20
found inside one of the body parts, and
53:22
on the same dresser, they found another dog
53:24
choke chain. Beside it was a glass
53:26
pipe and a bag with 21 grams of meth
53:28
inside. When medical examiner
53:30
Dr. Vincent Trincheta later inspected
53:33
the head, he noticed physical signs of strangulation,
53:35
including injury to the neck muscles and
53:38
blood vessels in the face. There
53:40
were also chain impressions found on the tongue. As
53:42
for the torso, he discovered the backwoods flayed
53:45
and deflashed. The skin and muscles
53:47
were so damaged that the rib cage was visible.
53:49
The only things that investigators couldn't find were
53:52
both thighs and the left leg. So
53:54
now they continued their search in the van Taylor
53:56
had been driving, which was now impounded at
53:59
the police garage. It
54:01
didn't take them very long after searching again that
54:03
they immediately discovered both of
54:05
Shad's thighs and his left leg inside that
54:08
crock pot box in the passenger seat.
54:11
On March 1st, 2022 they charged
54:13
Taylor with first degree murder, third degree
54:15
sexual assault, and mutilating a corpse. After
54:18
being charged she had a bond hearing and requested
54:20
a lawyer. It was mentioned that she had previously
54:22
removed her ankle monitor and she was a potential
54:24
flight risk to Texas where her son
54:26
was, so she was being held on the $2 million
54:29
cash bond. She was then
54:31
given the choice of two public defense attorneys,
54:33
Quinn Jolly and Heather Richmond. Quinn
54:36
quickly requested a competency evaluation
54:38
for Taylor since she struggled with choosing a lawyer and
54:41
understanding in the court processes. Judge
54:43
Thomas Walsh later approved her competency
54:45
evaluation. Heather Richmond later
54:47
dropped out of the case and Quinn Jolly was left as Taylor's
54:50
only option for a defense attorney. At
54:52
a mental health facility Taylor was evaluated by a
54:54
state psychologist and she was deemed competent
54:57
to stand trial. But this was
54:59
only the beginning of several more evaluations
55:01
that Taylor would need over the next several months.
55:04
Another psychiatrist, chosen by the defense acknowledged
55:06
that Taylor had substance abuse problems but
55:08
also agreed that she was competent.
55:12
Defense attorneys then tried to have Taylor's statements at the time
55:14
of her arrest thrown out arguing
55:16
that she was still under the influence of drugs at the time.
55:19
They also tried to get the sexual assault charges dropped
55:21
arguing that the deceased had already had his genitals
55:24
dismembered but the judge denied
55:26
the motion. Several more hearings were
55:28
held over the next several months but even
55:30
while incarcerated Taylor's dreams
55:32
behavior stayed the same. During
55:34
one hearing a judge announced that he would push back Taylor's
55:37
trial date. Taylor then stood
55:39
up and attacked her own defense
55:41
attorney. Luckily her hands
55:43
were handcuffed but she was able to throw an elbow
55:46
several times. A sheriff's deputy
55:48
then wrestled her to the ground with some help and
55:51
they even had to evacuate the courtroom
55:53
soon after. risk
56:00
was I guess she had gotten her foot inside
56:03
the sheriff's belt
56:05
like where possibly where his holster was
56:08
so
56:08
some
56:09
think that she was actually trying to go for
56:11
its firearm or something like that so it
56:14
was actually a big issue yeah
56:16
she's just unhinged
56:19
right and this is when she's sober
56:21
right as far as we know this is when she's
56:24
sober and you think
56:26
it's a an attempt to try
56:28
and seem insane that's a great
56:30
point yep that's exactly what I thought too just
56:32
randomly freak out mm-hmm it's
56:35
a good show I mean this poor defense
56:37
attorney I mean he's like hell man I'm trying
56:39
to help you and you're over here attacking me right and
56:42
soon after this he was removed as
56:45
her attorney and replaced by Christopher Froehleek
56:48
her trial was later set to begin in July 2023 and the defense
56:51
argued that Taylor deserved another competency
56:53
hearing since the last one was eight months ago and
56:56
the murder had occurred more than a year ago another
56:59
competency hearing was granted by Judge Thomas Walsh
57:01
the defense appointed forensic psychologist dr.
57:04
Diane Litton tried to interview Taylor
57:06
three times but she refused to talk and
57:09
at one point during one of those evaluations
57:11
Taylor even threw a plastic chair
57:13
at her but after months Diane
57:15
was finally able to sit down and speak with her she
57:18
later testified that Taylor quote-unquote showed
57:20
signs of an active psychotic disorder
57:23
and was not confident for trial but
57:25
then a court ordered psychologist dr. Matthew
57:28
Seibel testified that Taylor was confident
57:31
which this is like so confusing why
57:33
are they going back and forth yeah I think
57:35
the defense is really trying to get
57:37
her they're just like keep sending them in
57:39
until somebody says that she's not competent
57:42
in syndrome I mean what other strategy
57:44
do they have in this yeah other
57:46
than so clearly she's guilty so I think they're just
57:48
grasping for this this is their last
57:51
shot but luckily
57:53
the court finally proceeded
57:55
with jury selection and
57:57
moved forward with the trial
57:59
Taylor's trial began on July 24th, 2023
58:03
and she submitted two pleas of not guilty
58:05
and not guilty by reason of mental
58:07
disease or defect. We're
58:09
going to go ahead and play some moments from the trial because
58:12
this is a pretty extensive
58:14
trial so we just found some sort
58:17
of highlight clips from it to show you to
58:19
kind of give you a good sense of what
58:21
that was like.
58:24
That's how she put it. I found my son's head in
58:26
a bucket.
58:27
So I'm dumbfounded. Didn't
58:31
believe her. Thought
58:34
she was having a mental
58:37
issue or something. She'd go downstairs
58:40
and see what the hell she's talking about and
58:43
I can't see anything. So we
58:47
go back upstairs and contemplate what the
58:49
heck to do.
58:51
So I guess what do you do
58:53
specifically when you go downstairs?
58:55
I went to the basement and
58:58
observed the bucket that she said
59:01
but I don't know. My mind blocked it out
59:03
about how I seen this like hair
59:06
like an animal or something. I didn't know what the heck.
59:09
So this next one is the medical
59:12
examiner testimony.
59:14
Had you ever seen anything like this before in your
59:16
experience?
59:18
I have seen mutilation
59:21
but nothing to this
59:23
extent before. Ever saw a head
59:25
in a bucket, correct? Correct.
59:28
After you looked at the bucket and the contents
59:30
of the bucket, did you pronounce death then or? Yes.
59:34
What was the time of death? I would
59:36
have to check my report. Was
59:38
it sometime after 11am? Yes.
59:43
Did you know of any other concerns
59:46
that were in the basement after you looked at the bucket?
59:49
I was notified
59:51
that
59:53
they suspected that they were human remains in
59:55
other receptacles or
59:58
other containers within the basement.
1:00:01
So
1:00:01
this next clip is
1:00:03
a this just shows you how
1:00:05
on a hinge Taylor is she
1:00:07
actually starts laughing during this one
1:00:10
while Alexander Gannon is testifying.
1:00:14
Basically I went over to the apartments
1:00:17
and when
1:00:22
specifically when I got
1:00:24
there I was we
1:00:26
were just chilling
1:00:27
chopping it up
1:00:29
like how we always do
1:00:31
and
1:00:33
basically
1:00:34
I
1:00:36
was like Taylor
1:00:39
was thinking asking like do you want to hang out
1:00:41
with Shad? She was asking me like
1:00:44
for consent to hang out with Shad like
1:00:46
to bring him over and I was like yeah that's fine
1:00:48
that's cool.
1:00:50
And so
1:00:52
could I stop you right there I'm sorry I just have
1:00:54
a quick question. So when
1:00:57
you were said you were at the apartment which
1:00:59
apartment is this? The Eastman
1:01:01
the Meadowview East apartments. Is that kind
1:01:04
of where you thought Taylor was staying or whose
1:01:06
apartment was it? It was all it
1:01:09
was the same apartments that
1:01:13
I lived there
1:01:15
so it
1:01:18
was like
1:01:20
I'm sorry what? Sure so
1:01:22
the apartment is on Eastman that you're talking about?
1:01:25
Yeah okay and I'm sorry I interrupted
1:01:27
you were with
1:01:29
Taylor and then she brought up hanging out with Shad.
1:01:33
I don't know a strange choice of words
1:01:35
he says chopping it up as in like hanging
1:01:38
out and I don't know if he was trying to get a rise
1:01:40
out of her or something because he almost I've
1:01:42
seen that clip like three times by now but
1:01:44
he almost kind of looks over at her like
1:01:47
yeah smirking a little bit when he says that
1:01:49
it's like they clearly Taylor thought it was funny. This
1:01:54
next one's detective David Graff's
1:01:56
testimony he was also
1:01:58
the main interrogator.
1:01:59
that we saw earlier.
1:02:02
Yes, she stated that she used knives
1:02:05
that she obtained from the kitchen of the residence.
1:02:08
Was she able to describe
1:02:10
to you where those knives would be located in the basement?
1:02:13
Yes, she described that the knives would be
1:02:16
in the same package
1:02:18
or the bags that
1:02:20
the body parts were also located.
1:02:22
And again, is that consistent with what investigators
1:02:25
were finding unseen? Yes.
1:02:28
In addition to the dismemberment, did
1:02:30
Ms. Shabizniz discuss
1:02:32
with you anything else that she did with Chad's
1:02:35
body after she had killed him?
1:02:36
Yes, she did. And what was that?
1:02:39
She described how she had
1:02:41
sexual contact with the body
1:02:44
in terms of playing
1:02:48
with his penis.
1:02:49
Also, she described that she had a
1:02:52
dildo that she placed into
1:02:55
Chad's mouth and to his
1:02:57
anus. And that she
1:02:59
also
1:03:01
had cuddled the body.
1:03:03
Did she discuss performing oral sex
1:03:05
on Chad? That's correct. Did
1:03:08
she indicate about how long she had
1:03:11
cuddled or played with Chad's body? She
1:03:15
indicated that it was
1:03:18
not exactly to call how long of a period
1:03:21
of time, but there was a period of time, I believe,
1:03:25
shortly before and
1:03:28
or after the start
1:03:30
of dismemberment. Did
1:03:34
she discuss with you what her intention
1:03:36
was with respect to Chad's head? One
1:03:40
of the first things that she did say was that she
1:03:43
did like the head and that
1:03:45
it was her intent
1:03:47
to take the head as well
1:03:50
as the genitalia that was in the bucket with
1:03:53
her. That's why she specifically
1:03:55
placed those items in the bucket. But
1:03:58
she did mention that she. had
1:04:01
left the bucket by
1:04:03
the stairs
1:04:06
and I don't know if she intentionally wanted
1:04:09
to do that but there was talk that there was
1:04:11
her intent to take the head and the
1:04:13
John Taylor with her.
1:04:15
So moving on we're gonna play a clip of Taylor's
1:04:18
father
1:04:19
Arturo
1:04:20
testifying. To give a little context
1:04:23
you'll see that her father is in
1:04:26
an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs. Just
1:04:29
a note he was incarcerated
1:04:31
in 2018 after he was found guilty
1:04:33
of second-degree sexual assault of a child
1:04:36
under the age of 16 and he was sentenced
1:04:38
to 12 years in prison and 18 years of supervision. So
1:04:44
before the baby was born
1:04:46
was she placed
1:04:49
at Nicolay Psychiatric Center?
1:04:52
Before the baby was born? Yeah.
1:04:55
Possibly. Did you see
1:04:57
her at the Nicolay Psychiatric
1:04:59
Center? Oh yeah I'm sorry it's just
1:05:02
so much going on. It's through Brown County. Yeah I
1:05:04
went to take her there myself
1:05:07
actually. Okay. Why did you take her there? She
1:05:09
just wasn't in the right state of mind. Was
1:05:12
she suicidal?
1:05:13
I
1:05:14
probably. Was she psychotic?
1:05:18
I don't think this one has the ability to
1:05:20
answer that question. Rephrase
1:05:23
the question. Okay. Was she experiencing
1:05:28
like hallucination? She just yeah she wasn't
1:05:30
she was not in a right state of mind at all. So
1:05:33
I feared that she would hurt herself so that's why I
1:05:35
took her out. We both agreed. We both went there
1:05:37
together and tried to get
1:05:39
help and then
1:05:41
ended up releasing
1:05:45
her and she came home and that
1:05:48
was about it. Okay. Was she
1:05:50
prescribed some medications and things like that? She
1:05:54
was at that evening no
1:05:58
but yeah she has been on so. medications
1:06:00
that she didn't she'd never like taking
1:06:02
those pills I mean they kind of
1:06:04
mess her up even worse and they caused
1:06:07
her to hallucinate or cause her to have I
1:06:09
think it all started with a seracol
1:06:11
that was taken you know back you
1:06:13
know I don't understand
1:06:16
too much about those prescription drugs
1:06:18
but they never agreed with her at all and
1:06:21
do you know the other medications that she was
1:06:24
asked to take ADHD
1:06:27
at her own I believe anything
1:06:31
about held held all I don't
1:06:33
know but I know she was prescribed some
1:06:35
stuff but I don't know the names did
1:06:38
you talk to some of the doctors
1:06:40
or psychiatrists at the Nicolay psychiatric
1:06:43
facility I'm gonna object I
1:06:46
think this witness can offer his observations
1:06:48
and the facts that he's aware of from what
1:06:51
he observed a mission business with
1:06:53
respect to what he learned from doctors
1:06:55
about her mental health conditions we have
1:06:57
professionals who are going to answer questions based
1:06:59
on them on the records those people are better
1:07:02
to answer those questions the information
1:07:04
he received from doctors is here say it's
1:07:07
not here say I didn't ask what they said I just
1:07:09
asked if you talked to the doctor jar here so
1:07:12
the question that's pending isn't asking
1:07:14
for hearsay I think the objection was
1:07:16
made because it sounds like that's where we're headed so
1:07:20
you can answer the question that was just asked and
1:07:22
then I'll just indicate mr. Fairlake that
1:07:24
objection is probably coming if you go the
1:07:27
next step but the question that's pending
1:07:29
can be answered so I think the question was
1:07:31
did you talk to anybody at Nicolay I
1:07:34
did ask another question
1:07:36
okay
1:07:39
did Taylor look Taylor live with you in
1:07:42
in Green Bay for a while for a little bit yeah
1:07:44
was that in 2021 or what year was it I
1:07:46
believe so yeah but again speaking
1:07:49
to them and you know her being an adult
1:07:52
they really
1:07:54
even be an author weren't allowed to
1:07:56
disclose anything right
1:07:59
you know
1:07:59
sure
1:07:59
When she lived with
1:08:02
you, sir, what address did she
1:08:04
live with you at? 1130 Moraine Way. And
1:08:08
how long did she live with you? Just a
1:08:10
few months. Did you
1:08:12
ever come to a point where you didn't
1:08:14
want her to stay there anymore because her behaviors
1:08:17
were getting worse or
1:08:19
her mental status was
1:08:21
getting worse? No, I love my daughter.
1:08:24
So I do whatever it takes to help her out. Did
1:08:28
you ever review any of her records
1:08:31
at all? Objection. I
1:08:33
don't think he can testify the content. Again,
1:08:35
I think it's the same objection. He
1:08:38
can answer whether you reviewed them. He can't
1:08:40
answer anything about the content of the records. Your Honor,
1:08:42
what they're trying to do is they're trying to anticipate
1:08:45
an objection. They know this one is not an
1:08:47
objectionable one, in my opinion. And
1:08:50
any good parent, when you go to the doctor, you're
1:08:52
going to talk with the physician or
1:08:54
the psychologist or whoever it is about
1:08:58
the status of your child. So I'm just asking
1:09:00
that. It's not like I didn't try. I try to
1:09:02
talk with her. Wait. So
1:09:05
I'm going to overrule the objection
1:09:07
at this point and the question
1:09:09
can be asked. Mr. Freilich,
1:09:11
why don't you ask it again so that the witness has
1:09:13
it in his mind? Okay, Your Honor. Kind of
1:09:15
forgot, so hopefully the... If you reviewed some
1:09:17
of the records of your daughter, did
1:09:20
you review any of the records? Like at
1:09:22
the facility? Yes. Again,
1:09:26
she was an adult at the time and I can't, you
1:09:29
know. Yeah, she was. She
1:09:32
was. Okay. When
1:09:34
she was living at
1:09:36
your house, sir, on Moraine Way, was
1:09:39
she ever experiencing or experiencing
1:09:43
any hallucinations or anything like that? Yeah.
1:09:48
Can you tell me about that? Just
1:09:51
know that she wasn't in the right frame of mind, you know. She's
1:09:53
going to kind of see things. She'd like to walk around
1:09:56
and, you know, we take a walk, the
1:09:58
cemetery, just right down the street.
1:09:59
But she
1:10:03
just needed, you know, just to kind of get out and
1:10:06
walk around and I guess
1:10:09
ease her mind.
1:10:12
You'd see a lot of objections being thrown
1:10:15
when they want to talk about her mental health
1:10:17
with people who aren't professionals, you know, which I
1:10:19
think is interesting. And
1:10:21
also this is a good reflection of... Well,
1:10:25
again, I think her defense
1:10:27
attorney is really trying to, you
1:10:31
know, point out that
1:10:34
she's been mentally ill for a long time. And
1:10:37
it's pretty serious,
1:10:39
especially based on the drug she's been prescribed.
1:10:43
So I think he's really...I mean, he's clearly leaning into
1:10:45
that defense for her. And
1:10:47
at the same time, it's kind of a reflection
1:10:49
of how little her dad
1:10:52
knew about what was going on. Who
1:10:55
knows? I can't really say
1:10:57
how little he was involved with it.
1:11:00
But it sounds like...I don't
1:11:03
know. He's
1:11:05
just like, oh, she wasn't in the right frame
1:11:07
of mind. And that's the extent of his
1:11:09
understanding. I can
1:11:11
get that
1:11:12
just from...I've
1:11:13
never even met the woman, but I can know that
1:11:15
she's not in the right frame of mind for a lot of this.
1:11:18
Even just sitting here, like
1:11:20
even just watching her sit there, you
1:11:22
can kind of see she's making these weird
1:11:25
smirks and she seems a little
1:11:27
dazed and stuff. But yeah,
1:11:30
it seems like he just didn't know what was going
1:11:32
on. So I wonder if her support system through
1:11:34
her family wasn't that great either. This
1:11:37
last one, this
1:11:39
is about her drug
1:11:41
use, especially with her husband. And
1:11:43
this is also her father speaking.
1:11:48
Yeah, and she was doing really well there too until
1:11:51
her boyfriend slash
1:11:53
husband
1:11:54
got out of jail. That turned everything
1:11:56
upside down. In part
1:11:58
because of the methamphetamine use.
1:11:59
right? Yep.
1:12:01
So Taylor was doing pretty
1:12:03
well and then she started using the drugs. No
1:12:10
further questions. Pretty bad drug too. Anything
1:12:13
on that Mr. Freilich?
1:12:16
What was the drug? Meth,
1:12:19
heroin, whatever else. I don't know.
1:12:24
No. I don't know. The kid was already
1:12:26
doing that shit before and just
1:12:31
a fucking loser and he got my daughter involved in that shit.
1:12:34
Thank you sir.
1:12:36
Nothing else. So
1:12:39
after only a three-day trial and 30
1:12:41
minutes of deliberation, the jury
1:12:43
found Taylor's business
1:12:45
guilty on all counts.
1:12:48
So for the next phase, it was the responsibility
1:12:51
phase of the trial and a defense psychologist
1:12:53
claimed that she business was not criminally
1:12:55
responsible for her actions because she had
1:12:58
a severe bipolar disorder. He
1:13:00
also argued that this disorder rendered
1:13:02
her unable to appreciate the wrongfulness
1:13:05
of her actions and deprived her
1:13:07
of volitional control. But
1:13:11
two court-appointed psychologists who
1:13:13
testified for the state said her actions were
1:13:15
fueled by drugs which made her ineligible
1:13:17
for the insanity plea under Wisconsin's
1:13:20
definition of a mental disease
1:13:22
or defect. They also
1:13:24
referenced her acts of one
1:13:26
dismembering Shad's body and cleaning the
1:13:28
basement crime scene as evidence
1:13:30
that she knew what she was doing was wrong. I agree
1:13:33
with that. I think that does show
1:13:35
she knows I got to hide this. I got to
1:13:37
clean it up. Right. Yep.
1:13:40
There was evidence you know by the mattress,
1:13:42
there was also evidence of cleaning near the
1:13:44
shower drain. The Lysol wipes. Yep. The
1:13:46
Lysol wipes that were there that were used.
1:13:49
Taylor's attorney argued that the drugs may
1:13:52
have compounded her psychosis and there was enough
1:13:54
evidence that she suffered from a long-standing disorder
1:13:56
affecting her actions.
1:13:59
talking about,
1:14:01
which seems to be the angle that the defense was trying
1:14:03
to dig their heels into. But in the
1:14:05
end, after the jury deliberated
1:14:08
for an hour, they returned a
1:14:10
unanimous verdict that Taylor did not have
1:14:12
a mental disease or defect at the time of the murder
1:14:14
that impacted her knowing right from
1:14:17
wrong. And so
1:14:19
then she went on to her sentencing. Well,
1:14:23
Josh thinks that Christmas is right around the
1:14:25
corner, but where I'm sitting, looks
1:14:27
like Halloween is right around the corner. And it's
1:14:30
spooky season. So horror movies
1:14:32
and all that jazz is right up your
1:14:35
alley too. On a Ghost Fruit of My
1:14:37
Life with Eli Roth from Travel Channel,
1:14:39
here are the real life stories of people who have been
1:14:41
through terrifying confrontations with
1:14:43
the unknown. But get this,
1:14:45
they survive, they come out alive, and
1:14:47
they get to tell their stories on this podcast.
1:14:50
You might know Eli Roth. He directed
1:14:53
horror films like Hostel, Cabin
1:14:55
Fever, The Green Inferno, Knock
1:14:57
Knock. And he's also the host of two horror
1:14:59
podcasts. For this one,
1:15:01
he's gone through hundreds of submissions
1:15:04
from real people whose lives have been just
1:15:06
completely destroyed by ghosts,
1:15:08
demons, or some sort of sinister entities.
1:15:12
And each episode focuses on one
1:15:14
person's story that is handpicked
1:15:16
and introduced by Roth himself. It's then retold
1:15:19
by the victims. So if you're ready to
1:15:22
get your pants scared off for this Halloween
1:15:24
season, go check this podcast out
1:15:26
and listen to A Ghost Fruit of My Life with
1:15:29
Eli Roth, wherever you get your podcasts.
1:15:34
On September 26, 2023, she appeared in court for her sentencing. She'd
1:15:39
actually spit on inmates during her time
1:15:41
in jail. So in this footage, you're about
1:15:43
to see she's wearing a spit guard
1:15:45
in court. To try and not
1:15:47
get Taylor the maximum sentence, Taylor's attorney
1:15:49
brought forth two of Taylor's family
1:15:52
members to make final statements, Taylor's grandmother
1:15:54
who is in the process of adopting Taylor's son,
1:15:57
and Taylor's father who is currently incarcerated.
1:16:00
Taylor's father emphasized that her behavior was affected
1:16:02
by drug abuse and that the system
1:16:04
had failed her. The defense also brought
1:16:07
a toxicologist James O'Donnell
1:16:09
to the stand to explain how excessive drug abuse
1:16:12
affected Taylor of the years and on the
1:16:14
night of the murder. Let's
1:16:16
take a look at those clips.
1:16:19
Methamphetamine is highly addictive, is
1:16:21
that fair? Extremely highly
1:16:23
addictive for one of the most addictive drugs
1:16:25
that we know.
1:16:31
Based on your training and experience and
1:16:33
knowledge, can
1:16:36
methamphetamine use cause
1:16:39
hallucinations, visual or
1:16:42
auditory?
1:16:43
Yes, both the form,
1:16:46
it's taken cause
1:16:48
a form of drug-induced psychosis.
1:16:52
What is psychosis?
1:16:53
Psychosis, the easiest way to describe
1:16:55
it is a loss of touch with the
1:16:58
reality.
1:16:59
Delusion?
1:17:00
Delusions includes
1:17:03
hallucinations,
1:17:07
just the loss of touch. What
1:17:10
they do makes no sense. What
1:17:12
they say makes no sense.
1:17:15
They're not reasoned with.
1:17:19
To use an old term, they're out of it. Just
1:17:22
before she was sentenced, there were two
1:17:24
impact statements made by the court. Here
1:17:27
are two clips. One is of Shad's
1:17:29
uncle and the other one is Shad's
1:17:31
father who are both speaking to
1:17:34
Taylor.
1:17:36
Taylor, I just wanted to say that
1:17:38
I forgive
1:17:41
you for what you've done to my son. Yeah,
1:17:49
he made a bad choice and
1:17:51
now you have to live with it.
1:17:55
You know, I'm gonna miss Shad. He
1:17:58
was a wonderful child too. growing
1:18:00
up just mild mannered and just happy
1:18:03
and and I
1:18:05
know he made a bad choice and and
1:18:09
like I said I forgive you and and I'm gonna
1:18:14
ask just if you can you know if she can
1:18:16
see the streets again sometime you know it
1:18:19
may not be soon but
1:18:23
I believe I believe everybody
1:18:27
makes bad choices and maybe not to the scale
1:18:30
but I
1:18:33
think there's a lot of hope for you I think
1:18:36
you know you can make use of your time and be a better
1:18:38
person and
1:18:42
do great things yet you know so it
1:18:48
does no good for me to hate you you know I
1:18:53
know I know you got a heart I know you got
1:18:55
a mind and
1:18:59
I wish you no harm and I hope
1:19:01
things I hope
1:19:03
things go well for you that's
1:19:07
all I got to say.
1:19:09
Wow,
1:19:10
isn't that incredible? Wow,
1:19:13
that is that takes a lot of of guts
1:19:17
to get there and have that mindset.
1:19:21
It's so powerful not letting hate
1:19:23
and anger consume you like that he seems pretty
1:19:26
level-headed and I think I
1:19:28
do think it's wishful thinking though yeah
1:19:30
I'm not understands with good
1:19:33
intent but I don't I
1:19:35
don't I don't see any bit of remorse
1:19:38
in her eyes at all yeah I don't I wouldn't want
1:19:40
to see her back out of I wouldn't either but
1:19:42
I do like the sentiment and
1:19:44
just that level of Zen that
1:19:46
he holds because I couldn't imagine
1:19:49
the thoughts that would be going through my brain
1:19:51
if I were in his shoes I don't think I could ever get
1:19:53
to that and this this
1:19:55
next sentiment through Shad's
1:19:57
uncle I think a lot of people will also rest
1:19:59
me with.
1:20:02
Basically just wanted to say that there's no
1:20:05
excuse for
1:20:06
what you've done. I don't care if it's drugs
1:20:09
or upbringing. You know,
1:20:12
we all go through hard times growing up
1:20:15
at least a majority of us have. You
1:20:19
have the opportunity to change that. You
1:20:21
have the opportunity to, you know, see
1:20:23
that you have a problem.
1:20:26
There's, you know, I better recover and you live over
1:20:28
three years. In
1:20:31
AA, I drank for 41 years.
1:20:34
I realized I had a problem.
1:20:39
So there's just
1:20:41
basically to me, you took an easy
1:20:43
way out. That's all. You
1:20:46
get the most
1:20:47
cowardly weakest language that
1:20:49
you can do possibly.
1:20:52
You meet a person in school,
1:20:55
you say, is your friend, you become friends, you
1:20:58
got the girlfriend, boyfriend, others.
1:21:01
Gain is trust. The
1:21:03
innocent person that's very kind would
1:21:06
do anything for you. And
1:21:08
I believe you use that
1:21:11
and you have this plan.
1:21:12
It took your opportunity when you did. There's
1:21:15
no excuse, you know, I don't see it no
1:21:17
other way. You take
1:21:20
advantage of someone's kindness like that.
1:21:24
That's like the most
1:21:25
stuck poop can make thin women feel
1:21:27
plus sized to have the best
1:21:29
stuff with your life. You don't need fiber. Right.
1:21:31
Don't
1:21:32
have to sit in some fucking
1:21:34
house. YouTube really doesn't know how to curate
1:21:37
their heads. You go back a little bit.
1:21:44
If I had your someone's kindness like
1:21:46
that, that's
1:21:48
what the most irritating thing can
1:21:52
you get the notice of the letter, they trust you
1:21:54
and then you do that. Say that
1:21:57
you say that you're a friend, you're his friend.
1:21:59
You said that.
1:21:59
statements, it's like,
1:22:01
man. But
1:22:04
you know, I
1:22:06
walked into a program and it's free. You
1:22:09
know, you can go to hell and it's free all
1:22:11
over the place there's help. And
1:22:14
it doesn't cost a dime, you know.
1:22:18
It's either, and the first thing they tell you,
1:22:20
you know, you want to continue doing what you're doing.
1:22:23
It's going to be jails, institution or death.
1:22:27
And you chose that path and you chose the wrong
1:22:29
path.
1:22:30
They sit here talking about being rehabilitated.
1:22:35
Is Shadd's mother going
1:22:37
to ever rehabilitate from this?
1:22:39
No, but you can go to an institution, you can
1:22:41
go to a prison and I didn't
1:22:43
really keep it belated. But
1:22:46
I don't see no reason why you have parole
1:22:48
after the doctor had just mentioned
1:22:51
once you have so much damage that it's irreversible,
1:22:55
you know, survival. Don't
1:22:58
make no sense to me even to have the option
1:23:00
of parole to come back and again
1:23:03
someone's trust like that again. Because
1:23:05
that is like the lowest thing
1:23:08
you could do. You know
1:23:10
what I mean? I just don't understand that.
1:23:13
And the biggest thing is, you know, it,
1:23:17
like I said, you know, the help is free.
1:23:19
It's there. You chose
1:23:21
not to take, you know, I'm sure you knew you had
1:23:23
a problem,
1:23:25
you know,
1:23:26
you can't blame it on childhood. You
1:23:29
know, there's help out there. And if you
1:23:31
take the path to go and get the help, you
1:23:34
wouldn't be in this situation right now. None of us
1:23:36
would be in this situation. But to take the cowardly
1:23:38
path that you did and to
1:23:40
make other people suffer because you
1:23:42
were suffering is
1:23:45
pretty shit. So
1:23:47
that damn killer ship
1:23:49
business fits you well. Now
1:23:52
I'm not a praying band, but
1:23:55
after Judge Walsh's sentences
1:23:58
today, I will
1:23:59
pray that
1:24:01
you meet the same fate as your relationship
1:24:08
business.
1:24:10
I have to say I've resonated more with
1:24:13
Chad's uncle there. Yeah, I
1:24:15
maybe I'm, you know, maybe
1:24:17
that says something about
1:24:18
my character but
1:24:20
I think cathartically I that
1:24:23
resonates more with me but I wish I
1:24:25
could tap into whatever his
1:24:27
dad was getting on.
1:24:31
Again, I don't think any of us can really
1:24:33
say one way or another unless we're in that situation.
1:24:36
Yeah, we would feel so it's just all speculative
1:24:38
but yeah, true.
1:24:40
I just,
1:24:41
you know, from this side, I just couldn't see myself,
1:24:44
especially
1:24:45
with somebody like her
1:24:47
wanting to forgive them.
1:24:49
Yeah, then again, I don't know how
1:24:52
how
1:24:53
you would mentally process that and
1:24:55
how you'd be able to move past it if you didn't forgive.
1:24:58
Yeah, I know.
1:25:01
There's the old Catholic coming through here but
1:25:03
forgiveness like they always said that forgiveness
1:25:06
which who knows maybe his father was
1:25:08
a Catholic Christian man but
1:25:10
they do say forgiveness is more about healing
1:25:13
yourself and it is saying
1:25:16
that everything's okay. You know,
1:25:19
it's not okay, but I forgive
1:25:21
you so that I can heal on my
1:25:23
own personal journey. So maybe
1:25:26
it's more like that but yeah, I have this
1:25:29
case is so rancid.
1:25:33
I can't even I still can't wrap my head around
1:25:35
it and I don't know that
1:25:38
would be so tough to come to terms
1:25:40
with forgiving her but we'll
1:25:42
see in the sentencing will the
1:25:45
judge is interesting in the game because
1:25:47
he's a very soft spoken
1:25:49
judge. Yeah, he is. He seems intelligent
1:25:51
though. I like the way he speaks. He really seems
1:25:54
to have like processed everything that happened
1:25:56
in this case when he goes and makes
1:25:59
his judgment.
1:25:59
statement or Taylor's sentence.
1:26:03
He did ask her if she
1:26:05
wanted to address the
1:26:07
court and she declined, which
1:26:10
to me that says a lot about the person. In
1:26:13
Judge Walsh's final statement, he believed that
1:26:15
Taylor had family members who loved her and
1:26:17
that she truly loved her son and
1:26:19
that her drug use had severely
1:26:21
impacted her life.
1:26:23
I
1:26:24
haven't heard a lot of judges speak
1:26:28
the way that Judge Walsh does. So
1:26:30
let's hear from
1:26:32
Judge Walsh.
1:26:34
I was a little bit
1:26:37
put off by a statement that I read
1:26:39
in the Presentance Investigation Report, frankly
1:26:41
from her father. He
1:26:44
said on page 17 of that report, I feel
1:26:47
like the system could have helped Taylor and
1:26:49
kind of failed her as well.
1:26:52
And I reflected on that because it's
1:26:55
difficult to understand who people refer
1:26:57
to when they say the system fails people.
1:27:00
I'm not going to lie. I'm
1:27:04
pretty exhausted. To
1:27:07
understand who people refer
1:27:09
to when they say
1:27:10
the system fails people. Because
1:27:13
you know what, it's not the job of the system to raise
1:27:16
people's children. The system tries
1:27:18
to do that. The system is not
1:27:20
perfect. Like our fight against methamphetamine is
1:27:22
not perfect, but we carry the fight on. People
1:27:25
in our community get into the system,
1:27:28
be that the court system or the
1:27:30
system dealing with child protection. Really
1:27:33
I think what they're referring to, I don't know,
1:27:35
but it seems to be the government. The government
1:27:38
needs to come in and do more to
1:27:40
take care of people who have gone astray. And I'm
1:27:42
not
1:27:42
sure that that's the case.
1:27:45
Nonetheless, attempts are made. Attempts
1:27:48
are being made in this courthouse every day and
1:27:50
to suggest that somehow it's
1:27:52
the system that failed. It
1:27:55
always surprises me a little bit when people come
1:27:57
into court, they're coming in
1:27:59
and they're orange jumpsuit and
1:28:02
chains to suggest that it's
1:28:04
the system that's failed my daughter. There's
1:28:07
a certain irony in that. There really is. It
1:28:11
disturbed me when I read that piece. Not
1:28:13
so sure it's really relevant to
1:28:15
what should
1:28:19
happen to Miss Shabizzniz, but it was relevant
1:28:21
to what I heard from this
1:28:23
witness here today because I think
1:28:26
the system does the best it can. It's
1:28:28
imperfect and
1:28:30
it has very much to do with the
1:28:32
amount of resources that the public
1:28:35
wants to put into the system. Those
1:28:38
resources are finite. But
1:28:41
as I say, in this building, the
1:28:43
system is doing everything it can
1:28:45
to fight drug use with all of our treatment
1:28:48
courts, with everything we do, to
1:28:50
try to help push back
1:28:53
the plague of drug use
1:28:55
that's occurred and that we've heard so much
1:28:57
about in this case. So
1:29:01
I read
1:29:03
that statement. I heard from Miss
1:29:06
Shabizzniz's father. He
1:29:09
is coming in here to
1:29:12
talk about his daughter who's
1:29:14
also going through the system. And I couldn't help
1:29:16
but think of everything I heard about Miss Shabizzniz's
1:29:19
son because it seems to be
1:29:21
a cycle. It seems to be just a circle. It's
1:29:23
coming around again so
1:29:25
that if he ever finds himself in the situation
1:29:28
that his mother finds himself in, where
1:29:32
she's the only one he's got left to come in and speak
1:29:34
for him, again
1:29:37
I guess it's the system that's done something, but
1:29:40
it all starts frankly at somebody's
1:29:43
home and what they have to offer
1:29:45
to their children. And
1:29:48
so anyways, I reflect on that. But
1:29:50
I'm also convinced that no one is
1:29:52
responsible for where
1:29:55
they come from. But you are
1:29:57
responsible for where you're going. A
1:30:00
lot of tragedy that has occurred in Ms.
1:30:02
Shabizis' life, there really is. I've
1:30:05
already reflected on some of that. And
1:30:07
it almost seems as if you could apply
1:30:10
the phrase, she never had a chance
1:30:12
to
1:30:14
Ms. Shabizis.
1:30:16
But
1:30:18
as I said, you're not responsible for
1:30:21
where you come from, but you are responsible
1:30:24
for the choices you make about where you're going.
1:30:28
But all of those things I reflect on when I consider
1:30:30
the character of this defendant. Next
1:30:33
I move on to the gravity of the offense.
1:30:36
And I sit in this chair
1:30:38
often and I address situations where
1:30:41
people have lost their lives or
1:30:44
people have been violated terribly.
1:30:49
And I always indicate that really
1:30:51
the offense, the offense in this case, can't
1:30:53
be overstated. And
1:30:56
that seems very appropriate to say that in most
1:30:58
cases when there's
1:31:00
been such a death or a violation.
1:31:03
But in this case it seems different.
1:31:06
In this case, you
1:31:08
seem to run out of superlatives when
1:31:10
describing what happened in this case. You really
1:31:13
do. The list of superlatives don't
1:31:15
seem to measure up to what you
1:31:17
see, what you hear about. And
1:31:20
what we heard about in the trial, this
1:31:24
crime offends human
1:31:26
decency, it offends human
1:31:29
dignity, and it offends the human community. It
1:31:31
really does. When someone
1:31:33
loses their life needlessly, it's tragic.
1:31:36
It really is. It's
1:31:38
tragic for family, friends, and community.
1:31:42
When life is taken from
1:31:44
a person in the fashion that
1:31:46
it was in this case, where
1:31:49
the victim's remains are cut up
1:31:51
and packaged in containers, it's
1:31:53
difficult to identify a human nature
1:31:55
in those activities. It really is. It's
1:31:59
very troubling. It's
1:32:01
difficult to recognize the general belonging
1:32:04
that most people have for their community. It's
1:32:06
difficult to recognize community in anything
1:32:08
that happened in this case. This
1:32:11
is a small community that we live in where
1:32:16
the web of relationships almost,
1:32:18
you know, encompass everyone who lives
1:32:21
here such that people look out for each other and care
1:32:26
when something bad happens to one
1:32:28
of our members. And in a broader sense,
1:32:32
the community we exist in is the human community,
1:32:34
as I've reflected on. And these actions
1:32:36
are foreign to all of that community. And
1:32:40
they shock the community beyond the ability
1:32:42
to adequately express in
1:32:45
words. They really do. And
1:32:49
that's the gravity of this events. That is
1:32:51
the gravity of this events. There
1:32:53
aren't superlatives for it. There aren't really
1:32:55
words for it. You can get a
1:32:57
sense of it. You can
1:32:59
get a sense of it, a feel for it. But
1:33:02
there's no really way to express the gravity
1:33:04
of this events. It's
1:33:06
the decision of this court and the judgment of
1:33:08
the law that this should
1:33:10
be sentenced as follows. Has
1:33:13
to, in 22 CF 363,
1:33:18
count one, that's the first degree intentional homicide
1:33:20
as a repeater. It's a class A felony. It's
1:33:23
going to impose life imprisonment without
1:33:25
the possibility of extended supervision. I
1:33:27
believe that's appropriate in light of findings
1:33:30
that I've already made. As
1:33:32
far as count two, mutilation
1:33:34
of a corpse as a repeater, a class F felony,
1:33:37
I'm going to adopt the recommendation of the pre-sentence
1:33:39
investigation writer. 7.5 years
1:33:42
of initial confinement followed by 4 years of extended
1:33:44
supervision. That'll be consecutive to count one.
1:33:48
As far as count three
1:33:50
third degree sexual assault as a repeater,
1:33:53
class G felony. I'm
1:33:56
going to impose three years of initial confinement
1:33:58
followed by four years of extended supervision
1:34:00
that will be consecutive to count two and count
1:34:03
one. As
1:34:05
far as the revocation cases, we're going
1:34:07
to impose one year of incarceration
1:34:09
on each of those counts, those will run concurrent
1:34:12
to the other offenses. I've reviewed, as
1:34:15
I've indicated, I've reviewed both of the pre-cities investigation
1:34:17
reports. There's certainly valuable things in them. I'm
1:34:21
going to, as conditions of supervision,
1:34:23
I'm going to require no contact with the victim's
1:34:26
family. Find
1:34:29
absolute sobriety, complete SOT
1:34:32
assessment and treatment follow through, obtain
1:34:34
and maintain full-time employment. To
1:34:37
the extent there's every supervision, GPS monitoring,
1:34:40
I'm going to require an AOD assessment follow
1:34:42
through, psychological evaluation
1:34:45
and follow through. The recommendations
1:34:47
that are contained in the pre-sentence investigation
1:34:50
reports submitted by the defense indicates
1:34:53
or suggests that there be services engaged
1:34:55
in for substance abuse and
1:34:58
other mental health issues. That's
1:35:00
a reasonable suggestion. I
1:35:02
think I've encompassed it in the recommendations that I've
1:35:04
made, which is there needs to be a compass evaluation
1:35:07
and follow through
1:35:07
with any
1:35:09
treatment recommendations that are proposed. Again,
1:35:11
an AOD assessment and follow through and psychological
1:35:14
evaluation so that Mr. Chib business can
1:35:17
get the help that she needs while
1:35:19
she serves the sentence.
1:35:25
I can't really argue with that sentence.
1:35:26
I don't know if you
1:35:28
can. No. I think that's the...
1:35:31
There's no death penalty in Wisconsin,
1:35:33
so I think that's about as serious
1:35:37
of a punishment as you can hand out.
1:35:40
I liked how he basically
1:35:42
described the gravity of the crime as
1:35:45
in you can't even describe it.
1:35:48
It's so abhorrent that you can't
1:35:50
even find the words for it. I
1:35:53
think that definitely resonated with
1:35:55
me. She
1:36:00
is appealing her sentence. Oh,
1:36:02
is she? Of course she is. Yeah, I mean, they
1:36:04
always do. Yeah.
1:36:07
What?
1:36:08
Yeah. I hope after
1:36:10
everything that her child, Mateo,
1:36:13
is in good hands with her grandparents, hopefully.
1:36:16
Yeah, the grandmother is full custody,
1:36:18
which is good. And
1:36:20
then Taylor did get married
1:36:23
in 2020 to her husband, Warren.
1:36:29
Shabow. Shabow. Shabow.
1:36:32
We're in business now. And so they're still together.
1:36:34
Still going strong, I guess. And he's in prison as
1:36:36
well. And he posted some on Facebook
1:36:39
about how he's like, you know, he's
1:36:41
always going to support her and that
1:36:43
he was framed and that
1:36:45
when he gets out, he's got business to follow up with.
1:36:48
So I don't know what that means exactly. But
1:36:50
he stands behind her, supports her no matter
1:36:52
what. Seems like they were
1:36:55
made for each other. Yep, sure does. But
1:36:58
yeah, that is the case
1:37:00
of Taylor's business and Shattherian.
1:37:03
Let us know your thoughts. I
1:37:05
know this is a heavy one for sure. So
1:37:07
I don't have a whole lot of things
1:37:11
to wrap up with. Daniel,
1:37:13
you got any comments? My
1:37:16
mom told me you have nothing nice to say. Don't say anything
1:37:18
at all. That's kind of how I
1:37:20
feel right now. I know. Like there's
1:37:22
really no way to ask. Other
1:37:25
than parrot what Shat's uncle
1:37:27
said, really. Yeah. You know, if you
1:37:29
look up to Jeffrey Dahmer so
1:37:31
much, that to me is like one of the most disturbing
1:37:34
parts of this is that she
1:37:36
was clearly obsessed with him.
1:37:39
I can't help but think that
1:37:42
the actions that she did were somehow
1:37:44
inspired by him. I think so. You don't
1:37:46
think she would have done this regardless?
1:37:49
I don't know if she would take it to the level that she did without
1:37:53
knowing what Jeffrey Dahmer did. Yeah, certainly
1:37:55
seemed inspired by it. It just is weird that
1:37:58
it all happened around the same time. that she
1:38:00
was Googling him and perhaps watching
1:38:02
the Netflix show and all that. She
1:38:05
goes and does exactly what Dahmer
1:38:08
would have done. It's just
1:38:10
sick, disgusting. She's
1:38:13
right where she needs to be. So I'm
1:38:15
glad they caught her very quickly after
1:38:18
that crime. I wish baby the... I
1:38:21
understand like COVID was at play here
1:38:23
with her being on the ankle monitor
1:38:25
and whatnot. And I
1:38:28
think a lot of people at the time were taking
1:38:30
advantage of that as well. And I think Taylor knew
1:38:32
that
1:38:32
she could get away with a lot of stuff by
1:38:35
taking advantage of that, not going to jail or
1:38:37
anything. Yeah. There's probably
1:38:39
a number of times that
1:38:41
she should have been incarcerated and perhaps
1:38:43
it would have
1:38:44
prevented this
1:38:47
whole crime from ever happening. But then
1:38:49
again, it
1:38:50
may have happened eventually. Right. So
1:38:52
it's hard to
1:38:55
say. But yeah, we're going to go ahead and wrap up things there.
1:38:57
