RATING
Three completely different seasons, literally no connection between them. The System is amazing, I loved every bit of it. The House That Vanished is also good, but feels like a completely different podcast - this one is a real story and I don't get why they're stuck together. Harland was quite poor in my opinion, it feels like the season 2 of a podcast where season 1 and 3 are missing. It's very hard to follow and the story doesn't make much sense.
The seasons are a bit hit or miss, but overall the impression is pretty good. I really recommend Exemplar and Harland. Steelheads, Who is Aldrich Kemp?, Dead Hand and the System are so-so. English Rose is silly, and Siege is boring - I didn't finish that one.
3.5/5 - Another show where the first season is great. The second, well, it was a completely different type of show and shouldn't have been lumped in with the first. Completely unrelated in terms of style, concept and function. The first is a decent fictionalised drama; the second is some random 'reporting' of the stages of a legal issue that didn't even match the style in terms of genre. Weird.
Grab bag of great podcasts. I haven't listened to all of them, but those I have all stood out for their quality. The BBC makes fantastic audiodramas, this is just more of the same.
Dead Hand was released today and I'm finished. It was absolutely wonderful. I love the short series Limelight features. And if you don't like one of the stories, you haven't invested too much time in it. Great audio and storylines
I adore this feed. There are so many terrific stories in the backlog, so much variety. Some are better than others but, not unlike Beatles songs, there are no bad ones, only good and great ones.
'Limelight' is intended to be half-an-hour of new action / drama / supernatural / speculative fiction on a Friday evening, and it's perhaps necessarily a little bit of a mixed bag. YMMV on whether this is your thing, or isn't! If it is, dive in. You may not be quite sure what you're getting each season, but you can be sure that it will be new and worth trying out, though I agree that 'The House That Vanished' is a great podcast, but perhaps not the best fit with the rest of the seasons. Highlights for me have been 'The System', which is top-notch, 'Harland', and 'Spores'. Good production values. Try it, see what you think!
Limelight should be divided into the five stories it, actually, is. Limelight isn't even a story, just a name for something. The stories are, in my opinion, well played (as most things BBC produces are) but not all of them to my taste. I like the actors, and the production. They are a bit uneven and therefore should have been split up.However, the stories are great, I particularly like the most recent one, Dead Hand, set in Northern Ireland (the accent is a bit tricky for me, though) and the story gets quite intense. Check it out. Or check THEM out. All five stories.
First season is one of the best productions in fiction podcasts I've listened to. Acting, sound design, music, editing, all of it excels, plus the plot is fantastically written. I would have liked a closed ending better. Very fast paced and addictive, I listened to it in one sitting. Limelight is comprised of 5 episode miniseries of different quality, but most of them are fantastic. Acting and sound design is usually great. Style, writing and quality differs from one series to the next. Some I love, others not so much. All in all, the best miniseries series out there.
4 separate stories. As always with BBC well produced and great voice acting.
