Angelena "Angel" Cortello became a drug addict after experimenting with drugs when she was a teenager. Eventually, her addiction took over causing her to live on the streets and prostitute to support her drug habit.

In her first book Angel The True Story of An Undeserved Chance, she writes about being "lost in a world of emotional problems, addiction, prostitution and street life. This is a true story of how she chose recovery and freedom, even in the midst of the consequences such as living with HIV."
