Welcome to Living in Purpose on Purpose . I'm
0:07
your host , jamie
0:13
Hansel , and
0:16
welcome to my podcast . Hey
0:21
guys , welcome back to Living in Purpose on Purpose podcast
0:24
. I'm your favorite podcast host , jamie Hansel
0:26
, and I appreciate you guys tuning back in Before
0:28
we get started today . If you are watching via
0:30
YouTube , make sure you're going to click that subscribe button
0:32
wherever it is . Now , today , I
0:35
will say this episode is a little bit
0:37
geared towards my entrepreneurs no shade
0:39
, it's in the nine to fives but I know
0:41
that as entrepreneurs , sometimes you need a little bit more care
0:43
and love , because we have a
0:45
lot of free time , we have a lot of freedom
0:47
in our schedules . So I thought it would be very
0:50
important for us to talk about what it looks like
0:52
living in our purpose on purpose as an entrepreneur
0:54
, and one of the main things that we
0:56
need to do to do that is using
0:58
our time wisely . I know it sounds like
1:00
I just said a bad word , because a lot
1:02
of us , as entrepreneurs , are
1:05
terrible at using our time wisely
1:07
, and that's why I feel like this episode
1:09
was a very , very important
1:11
topic to talk about , because if
1:13
we don't use our time wisely , we can waste a lot
1:15
of time , and we all know that time
1:17
is money and money that is
1:19
out there that needs to be made . We have to make
1:21
sure we're able to go out and get that
1:23
money . So , first things first . I'm just
1:25
going to give you guys a little bit of tips
1:28
or I'm in tips , I'm just going to talk about
1:30
a few different topics that I feel like are
1:32
important or it's kind of like
1:34
in the realm of using your time wisely . The
1:36
first tip that I want to talk about , the first
1:38
point , is setting clear
1:40
goals . This is very hard
1:42
for us entrepreneurs also , because a
1:45
lot of us we're multifaceted
1:47
, we are good at we do a lot of
1:49
different things very well and if we
1:51
do a lot of things well , we kind of like
1:53
jump from place to place to place to place
1:55
and even if you're an entrepreneur that kind of
1:57
sticks to one thing , it's still very difficult
2:00
because in our industries there's so many different
2:02
things that you can accomplish , there's so many different levels
2:04
that we can get to different heights
2:07
that we can reach , and within that we
2:09
can waste a lot of time . So
2:11
within that , to make sure you're not wasting
2:13
a lot of time , if you set clear goals
2:16
, it just saves you a lot of
2:18
time . You're able to work directly
2:20
with what you're trying to do . You know exactly
2:23
what you need to do in order to get to where you're
2:25
trying to go to accomplish that goal and
2:27
you're not kind of like aimlessly wandering
2:29
around . Now , when it comes to setting
2:31
your clear goals , you have to be able to know what
2:34
those goals are . You have to sit down and figure
2:36
out where you're trying to go , what
2:38
you're trying to accomplish . Okay , if you're
2:40
trying to switch industries or if you're trying to work
2:42
up in this industry , what do you need to do
2:44
to reach this level of status
2:47
? Or what do you need to do to get into
2:49
this room with these people ? What do you
2:51
need to do to release that book , to release
2:53
that podcast ? You have to sit there
2:55
and really think about what that looks
2:57
like and set those goals on how
2:59
to get there , and with that , you
3:01
will make sure that you're not wasting a
3:03
lot of time . Now we know we need
3:05
to set those clear goals , but within the goals
3:07
, we have to know how to prioritize
3:10
our task . I'm going to say that one
3:12
more time we need to know how to prioritize
3:14
our task . We have
3:17
a lot of things that we need to do . We
3:19
have the goals , we know what we need to do . We
3:21
get that , but a lot of times we
3:23
do not prioritize the tasks that we need
3:25
to do in order to complete or
3:28
make those goals . A
3:30
check on our list we have those to-do lists
3:32
and we still do not understand
3:34
what it means to prioritize the tasks that
3:36
we need to get done . If you do not prioritize
3:39
the tasks that you need to get done , sometimes
3:41
you'll be working on a level nine
3:44
task that you really
3:46
need to be put in on the end of your list , and working
3:48
on your level one task , which is going to take more
3:50
time or more effort . Now
3:52
, I'm not saying that you have to go
3:54
in this set order every time , but
3:56
what I am saying is that , in order for
3:58
you to make sure you're achieving those goals
4:00
and that you're actually attaining
4:03
the things that you're trying to set out to do , you
4:05
have to prioritize and say , okay , what's really important
4:07
, what's number one ? Because
4:10
if you don't know what's number one , what's number two , what's
4:12
number three , you're going to start working
4:14
on different things that , honestly , don't even require
4:16
your time right now , something that's going to be way
4:18
in the future or something , honestly
4:20
, that doesn't even make sense for you to do right now
4:22
because you haven't even mastered
4:24
the other things . In order
4:27
to make sure you're not wasting your time
4:29
, you have to be able to prioritize
4:31
those tasks . If you are not doing
4:33
that , I promise you you're going to waste
4:35
time every single time
4:38
. Now , within
4:40
prioritizing your task , stop
4:42
working on multiple tasks . Avoid
4:44
multitasking . I know we say
4:46
a lot of different things to say oh , you
4:48
know , I can multitask this way
4:51
and get multiple things . I can get a lot
4:53
of stuff done if I work on this and this and
4:55
this . No , cut it
4:57
out . Cut it out the reason why I say
4:59
that , cuz , contrary to popular belief , I don't know . Somebody
5:01
might get in the comments and say , no
5:04
, I'm a great multitasker . No , you're not . No
5:06
, you're not . You've programmed yourself to believe
5:08
that because you're getting whatever you need to get done
5:11
or you feel like you're accomplishing
5:13
them in a good way . But
5:15
I promise you you are not going to
5:17
get the tasks done , like someone
5:19
who is taking the time to dedicate to
5:22
one task to get that done . It's not going
5:24
to be the same delivery . I don't care how well
5:26
you think it is . I don't care how good
5:28
you think you are at multitasking , it's
5:31
not something that's going to be done in a manner
5:33
that if somebody who said it took the time
5:35
to do that one thing and Dedicated that one
5:37
, that time to that one thing , is
5:39
going to give a different type of result rather
5:42
than yours . I'm not saying that I
5:44
don't ever multitask . I multitask
5:46
a lot . I'm especially with me staying at
5:48
home with my kitties right now . However
5:51
, I know the things that require
5:53
my full on attention and I have to communicate
5:55
that with my husband . I say , hey , I need
5:57
an hour to go down to
5:59
the office , to the clubhouse . I need to go
6:02
down there and dedicate this to my homework
6:04
because this requires me . I have
6:06
to design this after design that I need
6:08
the time to actually accomplish these things
6:10
. I cannot multitask with this . I
6:13
can't have the kids yelling in my ear Well , I'm trying to
6:15
do this . It requires my full on
6:17
attention . It requires my full brain
6:19
power to actually do this . You
6:21
have to be able to recognize the things that
6:23
you cannot multitask in now . I'm not
6:25
saying that every single task you have to sit
6:27
and dedicate special time to just
6:29
know . You know your task in your
6:31
life and your goals more than I do . So
6:34
of course , this is a general thing . You know
6:36
If you have a little small task that you can kind of work
6:38
on when you're doing something else . But you know the things
6:41
that I'm talking about because , as I'm saying , you're
6:43
already kind of like figuring out like dang , I do multitask
6:45
with that and that's in
6:47
that time . Just take the time
6:49
out . If you take the time out to
6:51
take an hour for one thing
6:53
, you can get it done in that hour , opposed
6:55
to Multitasking and it's taking you
6:57
three days because you want to just
7:00
dedicate three , five , you know
7:02
ten , twelve minutes to it each
7:04
time . Because you're multitasking with something
7:06
else , you're not gonna get it done . So
7:09
my advice to you is to avoid
7:11
multitasking , entrepreneurs , especially
7:13
for you , because if you try to use
7:15
your time wisely is not gonna be your best
7:17
friend . Multitasking is not going to be your
7:19
best friend . It's just not . It's going to hurt
7:21
you more . It's gonna help you . I know it sounds
7:24
like it will help you just because
7:26
in society we have , we just feel
7:28
like , oh , multitask , do all the things , do all
7:30
the things as long as you're doing all of the things and it's
7:32
like no , just because
7:34
you're doing all the things don't mean that you're doing
7:36
the things that you're supposed to be doing . So avoid
7:38
Multitasking at all cost
7:40
. Now
7:43
, within multitasking because we're avoiding
7:45
that all cost , right , we have to limit
7:47
our time wasters . In a lot of
7:49
times within multitasking , that's when
7:51
the time wasters kind of creep
7:54
into our time , creep into our space
7:56
, and we start to slowly but surely
7:58
allow them to kind of take over the time
8:00
we're dedicating to do whatever task
8:02
or to work on whatever goals that we're working
8:04
on . Time wasters can be social
8:07
media that's like the number
8:09
one , the biggest one , the main one
8:11
that a lot of times we say , oh , we're just gonna
8:13
scroll for two seconds , which
8:15
no one ever said that in their life
8:18
. I'm just gonna scroll for ten minutes
8:20
. I'm just gonna take a little break while I eat
8:22
. I'm gonna just eat this really quick and just
8:24
scroll on Facebook . Two hours gone
8:26
, two hours that you could have put towards
8:28
working on some type of content planning
8:31
, some type of video editing , whatever
8:33
the case may be . We're responding to emails
8:35
, another big time waster Netflix
8:38
and Hulu and Crunchyroll
8:40
and whatever else , sitting there
8:42
and saying I'm gonna just watch a little bit of this episode
8:45
while I eat . I keep saying while I eat , because that's
8:47
literally the only break time that I get from
8:49
working on anything . If I start to
8:51
eat lunch or dinner or whatever , that's when
8:53
I have a break from my actual work . But
8:56
we said , oh , we're just gonna watch a little
8:58
bit of our episode , we're just gonna watch a
9:00
little bit of this , I'm just gonna watch a little bit of that
9:02
, and then that little bit you're done eating . You
9:04
finished eating an hour ago and
9:07
you're still watching this time waster
9:09
. Cut it out . Let's limit those time
9:11
wasters . Now . I'm not saying that you can't do these things
9:13
, but what I am saying you have to be conscious
9:15
of the fact that they're
9:17
time wasters . They're wasting your time
9:19
. You're not utilizing
9:21
your time wisely anymore and we are entrepreneurs
9:24
. Like I said , no shades of nine to five . If you're
9:26
watching , you can , I'm sure , apply some
9:28
of these things to your lives and your job
9:30
. But from entrepreneurs , you know , like I know
9:33
, one of our biggest problems is wasting
9:35
time and a lot of times that put us
9:37
back further than if we would have just allowed
9:40
ourselves to identify the time wasters
9:42
, to avoid all this multitasking , not
9:44
saying goals and all these different things , we
9:47
could be further along at this time
9:49
than we . You know if we are right now because
9:51
of us wasting time and doing all these things
9:53
. So , once again , limit
9:56
those time wasters . And a lot of times time
9:58
wasters can also even be talking to people
10:00
. Sometimes we'll just get on our phone , say , oh , I'm
10:02
gonna text this person back and before you know it
10:04
you're going back and forth with this person for
10:06
one or two , three hours . You're like dang
10:09
, I've literally just been sitting here . I don't know about
10:11
y'all , but it takes a lot of my brain power
10:13
to have a conversation with people . Now , in person
10:15
I can talk to someone all day long . That's fine
10:18
. But when I'm texting someone , it really
10:20
has my under-abided attention
10:22
. Like I sit there and I'm like , okay , what am I
10:24
gonna say ? How am I gonna ? Okay , what are we
10:26
gonna talk about ? Especially with friends ? You
10:28
want to have a conversation like dang , what am I gonna talk
10:30
about ? What am I ? It's just too much , is draining
10:33
my family . If you're watching this , you
10:36
know I'm usually in my in the family
10:38
group chat . Why is too overwhelming
10:40
? It's too much for me . I have to literally put
10:43
all my brain power into reading all these men
10:45
. Don't let it be over three or four people like
10:47
it's just too much time
10:49
wasters . Sometimes you have to put your phone I do
10:51
not disturb I am the queen of
10:54
do not disturb and then if you have an iPhone now
10:56
another way , you can not
10:58
waste your time and limit those time wasters . You
11:00
can put limits to how long you actually
11:02
are able to be on an app . Now , if you anything
11:05
like myself , sometimes
11:07
you say Unlock
11:09
the app , like I'm not good for a minute
11:11
, and then that minute it goes away . You're
11:13
like me , I'm looking for our and you're gonna look
11:15
it for however long . But I encourage you
11:17
, don't , don't be like me . Actually
11:19
allow yourself to sit on there If you absolutely
11:22
have to go on social media . I am
11:24
an influencer , so a lot of times I have to
11:26
spend time on social media . I have to respond to comments
11:28
, I have to post on my story , I have to go
11:30
comment on people's Posts and things
11:33
to stay relevant , I have to make posts
11:35
. I have to do all these things . So I do
11:37
have to be on social media with a purpose of
11:39
working . If you are influenced
11:41
or watching this , don't
11:43
try to convince yourself that you're not
11:45
wasting time by scrolling when you really are
11:47
. If you're not putting something like Intentionally
11:50
out , you're not posting with an intentional
11:52
purpose or you're not commenting
11:55
with a purpose , you are wasting time
11:57
. You're scrolling like the rest of us , it's
11:59
okay . We're not doing it anymore , but
12:01
I encourage you to limit your time wasting
12:03
Habits , to make sure
12:05
you put on those limits . I don't know about androids
12:08
I'll have to look into that but if you do have an iPhone
12:10
, make sure you go into your settings and put
12:12
on the Limits
12:15
or the time limits on your apps , or only
12:17
on the apps that you waste time on . So
12:19
whether that's snapchat , instagram , facebook
12:21
tick tock is a big one YouTube
12:25
, maybe Anything that you feel like
12:27
you sit and you can waste a lot of time on
12:29
, put a time limit on there and I promise
12:31
you'll thank me later . Another thing that you can do
12:33
to use your time wisely is actually be
12:36
a continuous learner . I know it sounds a
12:38
little crazy . You're like what , jamie ? Be a learner , yes
12:41
, like to use your time wisely . Learn
12:43
a few things , especially as an
12:45
entrepreneur . You can learn something
12:48
every day and still have not learned enough . Like
12:50
there's so many different things out there that you can
12:52
educate yourself on , receive
12:54
knowledge about , communicate with people
12:56
and get their insight , because there is what's
12:59
the saying there's a lot of ways it's getting
13:01
cat , or there's many ways it's getting cat
13:03
. Whatever the saying is , I'm sure my dad knows that's
13:06
true . So , even though we're all photographers
13:09
, there's the multiple different ways to edit a photo
13:11
. Even you go in the Photoshop
13:13
, you need to remove something . There's like four
13:15
different ways you can remove something from your picture
13:18
. There is , you know , the clip is that this
13:20
is the clone is . It's so many different things
13:22
. So , the same way with your life . There's
13:24
so many ways that you can learn to do something else
13:27
, or to learn how to do Something you
13:29
never done before , or to learn
13:31
a new way that you do something already You're
13:33
currently already know how to do . There's so many different ways
13:35
. So if you want to spend some time doing
13:37
something other than your work at the time
13:40
, like I said , I'm a photographer I have to
13:42
edit a lot of photos , I have to send
13:44
client galleries out and things like that I
13:46
want to break from that , break for my eyes , because
13:48
a lot of times my eyes are just mm-hmm
13:51
. Go on YouTube
13:53
and go with the intention of learning
13:55
something . I have a lot of books about
13:57
photography . I go open up a chapter
14:00
that I haven't read before , read through , highlight
14:02
some things , whatever the case may be . But
14:04
if you are a continuous learner , you're not wasting
14:07
your time . You're using your time wisely
14:09
, to help your craft , to build your craft
14:11
up , which in turn is gonna do what make
14:13
you more money . And I'm not saying money is
14:15
the motivation , but I'm saying money is the motivation
14:18
. A lot of times , with our us as entrepreneurs
14:20
, you know money make your
14:22
business kind of go around . So in order
14:25
to make more money , you want to make up , have
14:27
a better quality of whatever work you do , whatever
14:30
product you're putting out , whatever service
14:32
you offer . You want to make it
14:34
short , make sure it's a quality
14:36
service of Quality product . In order
14:39
to do that , you have to
14:41
learn . You have to continuously learn
14:43
. You have to continuously Just
14:45
give yourself the ability to learn different
14:47
things . No one has it all together . I don't
14:49
care if you already made six figures or
14:51
whatever the case may be . You consider yourself
14:54
successful already . You still
14:56
have much more room to grow and
14:58
to learn and to evolve , and with
15:00
that it only comes with continuously learning , whether
15:02
it's from people or even just
15:04
from tangible things like videos , books
15:07
, podcast , whatever the case
15:09
may be . Now , this is kind of sorted . The
15:11
last thing Not really
15:13
, but this is the last
15:15
thing that I'm familiar with , and that
15:17
is scheduling and Taking
15:20
your breaks . Scheduling your breaks and
15:22
resting , but within those breaks
15:24
and resting sometimes is also great
15:27
to review and reflect . So you do
15:29
need your time , which you are scheduling your
15:31
breaks and rest where you're not
15:33
doing anything work-related , like
15:35
just throw it out the window , pretend you don't even have a business
15:37
, pretend You're not even an entrepreneur at all . Sit
15:40
and take the time a new thing that I've been trying to
15:42
do . If I say I want to have two children , if
15:45
I say I'm gonna spend time with my kids , I'm
15:47
not on my phone trying to respond to messages
15:50
in my DM about a photo shoot . I'm
15:52
not on my email trying to Respond
15:55
to an inquiry or whatever . I'm spending the time with
15:57
my kids . I'm taking the time for them
15:59
. They're getting full , and that goes with multitasking
16:02
also . No , I'm not doing that . I'm
16:04
literally giving them my undivided attention . I'm
16:06
not on my phone . I'm trying to allow
16:08
myself to take that break and rest
16:11
my mind , though I'm working in something
16:13
else . I'm working as a mom , I'm
16:15
breaking in , resting as
16:17
an entrepreneur and I'm living in the lifestyle
16:20
of that balance , that work-life balance
16:22
, and I'm being there for my children
16:24
, saying with my husband , saying with my friends
16:26
. If I'm out with my friends , I'm not on
16:28
my phone trying to look at
16:30
my inquiries and things . No , if
16:32
you say you're off at this time , you're off at
16:34
that time . If you say your business is closed
16:36
at this time , I will literally watch a message
16:38
come in my messenger , especially
16:41
my personal Messenger , but
16:43
I will watch , I will see it . Notification
16:45
come on . Is someone inquiring about something
16:47
? I would make a note of that . I'll
16:49
put a star by it now on business suite
16:52
on Facebook . That syncs with everything , even
16:54
with Instagram . You can make it a priority
16:56
and remind yourself to do it later . There's
16:58
no problem with that . It's okay . You don't
17:01
have to always just be
17:03
on go . I know people are saying
17:05
, oh , like I don't never get sleep , like
17:07
I Say that , but
17:09
not because I am proud of that
17:11
. I am not proud of that . I want
17:13
balance . I want time where I can like
17:16
, rest and chillax and and
17:18
be okay with saying , okay , my
17:20
business will be there tomorrow . Right now , I'm
17:22
clocking out , I'm turning off the lights and
17:25
we are now going into my regular
17:27
Jamie Hansel mode . That
17:29
does not require me to be a photographer
17:31
, to be an influencer , to be a A podcast
17:33
host . None of that is just literally me , myself
17:36
and I and who I am , and if
17:38
I'm out with a friend or with my family
17:40
, I'm in that gap . I'm
17:42
in that type of that part of
17:44
my life . I'm in that space . I'm not
17:46
in any other zone . That's important
17:48
now , within your scheduled breaks and
17:50
rest , I you do need to take some time
17:53
to review and reflect . So I'm not saying
17:55
all the time , but at some point . It could be quarterly
17:57
, it can be weekly , it can be monthly , daily
18:00
. Sometimes I like to do daily because it keeps me
18:02
on my toes . It lets me know when am I getting
18:04
done , am I prioritizing my task
18:06
correctly , if I'm avoiding multitasking , all the things
18:08
we're talking about , it helps me kind of check in with
18:11
myself . But however
18:13
it fits for you or whatever works for you , make
18:15
sure you're reviewing and reflecting on
18:17
all the things that you did your
18:20
business . Okay , what's working , what's not working
18:22
, what can we do to make this better
18:24
? Oh , we're doing great on this . Great Numbers
18:26
are looking good . Yeah oh no , we
18:28
got to go a few losses this month
18:30
. Why ? How can we fix this ? Oh , our
18:32
profit was up . What did we do different ? We did really
18:35
good this month . Those are the things you need
18:37
to sit and assist as an entrepreneur also
18:39
. Now , this last
18:42
point , guys , I actually don't
18:45
know much about , but I did
18:47
want to look up something that I did not
18:49
know or did not have much information
18:51
on , just because I feel
18:53
like it may help somebody else . And the very
18:55
last thing is delegating tasks
18:58
to other people or outsourcing things
19:00
. I've had a lot of people reach out to me about outsourcing
19:03
for my photo editing , though
19:05
I feel like that will help me a
19:07
lot in my photography , right now
19:09
I just don't see myself doing that . I'm still trying to
19:11
find my groove in my editing
19:14
style because I am
19:16
a candid photographer . I do not
19:18
like having like this preset type of style editing
19:21
because I feel like that's trying to fit everybody
19:23
into one box , and I know personally
19:25
I don't like feeling
19:27
like I'm in a box or feeling like I have
19:29
to be a certain way or a certain type
19:32
of influencer or business
19:34
owner or whatever . So within my photography
19:36
, my editing style varies , so I don't
19:38
even have a template for someone to really sit
19:40
in like say we're going to mimic
19:42
this editing style and outsource your
19:44
edit like I'm going to edit for you . I can't
19:47
do that . However , it works for some people
19:49
. I know plenty of photographers , especially
19:51
here in Jacksonville , that outsource their editing . That's
19:53
perfectly fine . If it works for you , you have
19:56
the finances or you know you have
19:58
the resources to do that , that is great
20:00
. I say go for it . I feel like
20:02
that is using your time wisely . If you have
20:04
the ability to do that , why
20:06
not ? That is allowing yourself to free
20:09
up more time within your business
20:11
so you can use to do something else , maybe
20:13
to start another way of income , another
20:15
, maybe a passive way of income , or maybe
20:18
to collaborate with somebody else to work on more projects
20:20
, depending on your business . There's so many
20:22
different things that you can do with time . Time
20:24
is money , like I said . So if you
20:27
can allow your money to work for you over
20:29
here while you're doing something else to make more
20:31
money , you're doubling up on that . So
20:33
, again , if you can outsource and you can delegate
20:35
tasks to other people , do it
20:38
. If you're collaborating with somebody and they offer
20:40
you help , take it . I know
20:42
it's very hard sometimes to do that . I know
20:44
I'm very difficult . It's very difficult
20:47
for me to do that . So when I
20:49
say , do you need help with this there , I'm like no , it's okay
20:51
, I got it , I got it . Meanwhile I'm
20:53
literally drowning in tasks . So
20:55
I encourage you guys if you can delegate
20:58
tasks to someone else , please do so
21:00
. It won't hurt you . You will not be any
21:02
less of a business owner or entrepreneur
21:04
by allowing someone to help you
21:07
. So I hope today's episode
21:09
allowed you to kind of take
21:11
a reflection of your life and your business
21:14
as an entrepreneur and see where
21:16
you can actually free up some
21:18
time , where you can actually not
21:21
waste some time , where you can actually use your time
21:23
wisely . I hope that it helped you out
21:25
. I know it helped me out a lot when I was going
21:27
through these points . I kind of was thinking
21:29
like , okay , dang , like I can really stop multi-dasking
21:32
a little bit more , or okay , well
21:34
, maybe I can take some offers
21:36
up on some help and different things like
21:38
that . So I hope it helped you entrepreneurs . Like
21:41
I said , nine to fivers if you got it this
21:43
far in this episode . I appreciate you for your
21:45
support and I hope you share it to all
