In a desire for an ever-deepening relationship with Mother Mary, I share from the book Truly Our Sister by Elizabeth Johnson. In particular, I look at the idealization of Mary and the three main roles she was cast in, the handmaiden, the virgin, and the mother, and the detrimental effects this has had on women. I suggest that by liberating Mary - in our minds - from these roles we can liberate ourselves. I also touch upon Johnson's quest for the historical Mary and positioning her in the communion of saints, but invite us to continue discovering Mary for ourselves.
