What’s the BIG idea you have been carrying around in your head?

You know, the one that will help so many other people?  The one that will be your awesome online course/program?  Yes, that one.

It’s easy to create ideas in our heads, isn’t it? It’s a bit harder to formulate that idea into something usable and brilliant.

Here’s a checklist I use when creating new online programs. It’s not writing out the modules, or figuring out what platform to use or how to record. It starts waayyyy before that.

I don’t want you to make the mistake of jumping in to the deep end without testing the water first.

It doesn’t take long but can save you a huge amount of energy and headaches later on.

Let’s examine your “idea”. It’s time to channel Sherlock Holmes and do some detective work.

*Is your tribe asking for this?

Or is this something you have “come up with?”
Creating programs without feedback can be the kiss of death. I should know. I did it.

A few years ago in my homeschool coaching business I created “an amazing program” I just KNEW everyone would love and want to buy. It was perfect. I spent weeks working on it. And then, crickets. I sold 2. Hmmmm…
When I went back to my community and asked them “why” there were a few glaring things I had totally ignored. I reworked the program and sold it successfully a few months later.

*Is this something they will pay for?

Yes, another failed experience in my business. This time everyone was asking for it. It was always the number one thing they asked for when I surveyed and had conversations. It was also something for the “mom” and not the child. In this case, they would rather spend their homeschool budget on books, how-to’s and supplies- not on making their life easier. So, I had to be sneaky. I reworked a few programs and added this piece that they totally did need. Now it was part of a homeschool program and they could justify the investment.

*How does this fit your business?

This is a big one, but something you may not consider, especially when you are building your business. Does this add a natural flow to your offers? The hardest thing for me to do was to keep focussed on my business destination. There are always so many things we want to teach and help with, it can dilute our true message. If you are passionate about healthy eating and want to focus on whole, organic foods- stick to that, at least at first. Once you have your sales funnel working, you can add natural beauty products or other complimentary topic.

If you pass these three questions, congrats! You are ready to move along to the next phase of creating an online program.
