1:12
you guys have been asking in the
1:14
comment section on YouTube, where's the beef?
1:17
We're talking wide receivers. Where is
1:19
the trench love? You're getting
1:21
some here today with three very
1:24
popular names for the
1:26
Miami Dolphins in mock drafts
1:28
and projecting into this Miami Dolphins
1:30
offense. Washington offensive tackle, Troy
1:32
Fitanu. Oregon
1:34
center, Jackson Powers Johnson, or should
1:37
I say into your offensive lineman. And
1:39
Connecticut's Christian Haynes,
1:42
a second round forecasted player, was
1:44
a part of my 2024 Miami
1:47
Dolphins offseason blueprint, who
1:49
I ultimately ended up picking in the mock
1:51
draft for Miami with the team's
1:53
second round draft selection. We'll profile him on
1:55
a deep dive here today as well. Who
1:58
they are, what they do, and what they do not. What they profile
2:00
as, what their strengths and weaknesses are, how
2:02
they would fit within the current infrastructure of
2:05
the Miami Dolphins. That is the objective here
2:07
today on the show. Let's
2:09
dive into it with Troy Fotano, offensive
2:12
tackle. Junior, 6'4", 317
2:14
pounds actually came in at the NFL Combine
2:16
at 6'3 3.25, 317 pounds, 34.5
2:23
inch arms definitively profiles with that
2:25
length as an offensive tackle. But
2:27
when you look at the bullet, when you
2:29
look at the bio and the bullet points,
2:31
courtesy of go huskies.com, Washington Huskies. He's
2:35
originally from Nevada. He was rated
2:37
by rivals as the number 50 offensive tackle,
2:39
but the number two prospect in the state
2:41
of Nevada coming out. He played
2:43
offensive and defensive line in high school,
2:46
red shirts in 2019, plays in all
2:50
four games Washington played in the COVID season
2:52
in 2020, nine
2:55
games starting three in 2021, two at
2:57
left tackle, one at left guard. In
3:00
2022, started all 13 games, played one
3:04
game as a starter against Stanford at left guard
3:06
and played the remaining games at left tackle and
3:09
was named first team all pack 12 for the
3:11
second consecutive season in 2023. In
3:13
addition to being all American third team on the AP,
3:16
started all 15 games at left
3:19
tackle. The
3:23
dolphins, if they're going to make a choice for
3:27
an offensive lineman that
3:29
plays offensive tackle, they'd ideally like to know
3:31
and have the peace of mind that that
3:33
player can also play guard
3:36
and be a part of the combination of the
3:38
best five available players that the dolphins are drafting.
3:41
And the fact that Fotano, at least on his
3:43
resume, has a handful of starts at guard during
3:45
his career, even if
3:47
he profiles long term as
3:49
an offensive tackle, I
3:51
think puts the dolphins in a very favorable spot to be, quote
3:54
unquote, done their offensive line.
3:57
Fotano did not participate in all of the tests.
4:00
at the NFL Combine, but the two athletic tests
4:02
that he did partake in were the jumps. I
4:05
remember doing for dolphins wire usage today's dolphins
4:07
wire back when Miami was in a different
4:10
regime. It was the Brian
4:12
Flores regime. But
4:14
you looked at the
4:17
kinds of offensive lineman that
4:19
the dolphins tended to gravitate towards and
4:22
bearing in mind that Chris Greer is a part
4:24
of that same football brain trust that he is
4:26
a part of now with Mike McDaniel. One
4:29
of the commonalities with a lot of
4:31
the players that they added was
4:33
lower body explosiveness. You can Google
4:35
dolphins offensive line
4:38
trends on dolphins wire and I'm sure you
4:40
can find the story. But it looked at
4:42
like mass and
4:44
lower body explosiveness were kind of the common
4:46
themes on all the offensive linemen that the
4:48
dolphins invested in early in
4:50
the rebuild. And
4:53
if I told you that Troy Fotano at 317 pounds
4:56
had a 90th percentile vertical jump and
4:58
a 91st percentile standing broad jump at
5:00
the NFL Combine amongst all
5:02
offensive linemen to come through the NFL Combine since
5:05
about 2000, that
5:07
would align very much in that same
5:10
school of thought. The jumps,
5:12
the vertical jump and the
5:14
broad jump, you're measuring lower
5:16
body explosiveness. Explosiveness is probably
5:19
the number one adjective to
5:21
describe Troy Fotano's game. He
5:24
likes to short set you. He likes
5:26
to get his hands on you early. He
5:28
explodes off the ball. He is explosive
5:31
in space. He's got a ton of
5:33
range. He's got heavy
5:35
hitting hands. He is
5:37
a nasty, nasty maulers. That is a common theme
5:39
with all three of these players that we're talking
5:41
about for the dolphins today in their
5:43
prospect profiles between Fotano, Powers Johnson and Haynes.
5:46
They are all nasty dudes. Troy
5:50
Fotano has
5:53
some of the best left tackle tape you will see
5:56
this season. Now, when I think about weaknesses of Troy
5:58
Fotano's game, I think aggressiveness is a common theme. and
6:00
at times over aggressiveness can
6:03
be used against him at times and
6:06
then when he does take deeper pass sets he's
6:09
usually a short setter he likes to get hands-on and
6:12
feel you and then use his lateral
6:14
mobility and reactive athleticism
6:16
to stay attached to you and use his
6:18
length and use his hand strength and hand
6:20
power but when he has
6:22
to take sets in space there
6:25
are some times where he maybe over sets in
6:27
relation to his guard and then that opens him
6:29
up to two way goes and
6:31
then he has to account for more
6:33
space and he can't
6:35
be a smothering presence he has to be
6:38
a reactive presence and while he
6:40
has the athleticism to kind of
6:42
flip his hips and run you if he needs to if
6:44
you if you duck inside across his face he
6:46
will ride you down inside and wash you
6:48
through but
6:50
you don't have the same arrogance
6:55
of violence
6:57
in his game that he carries when he's
7:00
able to dictate terms to you either
7:02
in the run game or
7:04
in short
7:07
set pass protection and getting you in close
7:09
quarters early in reps you
7:11
watch this player in space whether
7:14
he's pulling you know they'll run toss and he
7:17
will he will have to get outside and pick
7:19
up smaller defenders in space and kind of find
7:21
hunt the trash coming from the inside sweeping through
7:23
and kind of clean up the trash to
7:26
allow his running back to run off of his blocks or
7:31
you watch him as he
7:33
quickly releases Washington had a
7:35
pretty robust screen game that's
7:37
a parallel to the Miami Dolphins and hit
7:39
the timing of his releases and how well
7:42
he can get out in front of plays
7:45
really stands out it
7:47
really stands out and it makes him
7:49
of all the players that I've done
7:51
and scouted thus far for the
7:53
2020 400 felt rough that I'm working on a
7:55
board just like I've been working I
7:58
worked on a board for free agency The free
8:00
agency board had about 225 total names on it. About
8:04
200 of those were not Miami Dolphins. This
8:08
board that I have right now has about
8:10
60 players on it.
8:14
And Troy Fotano is one of
8:17
the best scheme fits for
8:19
the Miami Dolphins of any player
8:21
at any position. Predictably,
8:24
will he be there for you at 21? That's
8:28
a very challenging question to answer when
8:31
you consider you have the Titans as
8:33
a probable offensive tackle spot, the Chargers
8:36
as a possible offensive tackle spot in
8:38
the top 10. And then you have the Jets at 10. Would
8:41
they go Brock Bowers? Would they go with a third offensive tackle
8:44
after adding Morgan Moses and
8:46
adding a Tyron Smith? I
8:49
don't know. And
8:52
then you have teams like the Raiders. They
8:54
need a right tackle. They have Colt Miller
8:56
at left tackle. You have the
8:58
Saints who have an issue with Trevor
9:00
Penning, their recent first round draft
9:02
pick at left tackle. And now Ryan Ramchek might miss
9:04
the year. That feels like a
9:07
very logical tackle spot as well. So
9:09
you're gonna have some landmines throughout the
9:11
teams. And
9:14
there's enough depth with offensive tackle where
9:16
you could see him potentially not being
9:18
called upon in the pecking order. But
9:22
specifically for Miami scheme, this
9:24
is one of the best fits in the draft. This
9:28
is definitively you do not trade out at 21 for
9:30
this player. And this would be a player, depending
9:32
on if you could get away with doing pick
9:34
swaps to get it done or send a player,
9:36
depending on who the player is, I
9:39
consider moving up a few spots to get this guy
9:41
if he got into your stratosphere. He is that good.
9:44
He is that good. He is a bonafide
9:46
slam dunk pick for the Dolphins. I
9:48
am head over heels with Troy Fatano's
9:51
football. That's
9:54
the offensive tackle. And then obviously the
9:56
conversation becomes, he'd probably start for
9:58
you at guard early. And
10:01
then you would have a succession plan for Toronto
10:03
Armstead in place to transition away from that big
10:05
money contract in 20 25 You'd
10:08
have a lot of peace of mind If you're
10:10
really good you to dress a need now and a
10:12
long-term need in a more valuable position and
10:14
it would fit the spending trends of the
10:16
Dolphins Pretty
10:19
good deal Him
10:21
making it to use gonna be the hardest part of that decision We're
10:25
gonna talk about Jackson Powers Johnson next who
10:27
has been a very popular and buzzy mock
10:29
draft name for the Dolphins for quite some
10:31
time And we're gonna dig into
10:33
his game next here on this episode of locked

11:09
they cut down the nets Jackson
11:15
Powers Johnson from
11:17
the University of Oregon Has
11:20
reached a very dangerous stratosphere as
11:22
it pertains to Miami
11:25
Dolphins fans and the
11:27
NFL draft this year in my opinion Because
11:30
he's been such a buzzy name for
11:33
so long That there's
11:35
gonna be a collection especially fans that
11:37
want to see the offensive line addressed
11:40
There will be fans that if he happens to be
11:42
on the board At
11:45
pick number 21 and the Dolphins go in
11:47
a different direction or trade out of the
11:49
pick There's
11:51
fans that are gonna be ticked. There's there's a
11:53
lot of fans are gonna be really ticked off
11:56
Which is why I'm glad that I had the
11:58
opportunity to finally get around to do the
12:00
deep dive of Jackson Power
12:02
Johnson. I was familiar with this game.
12:04
I familiarized myself with the prospects, but
12:06
in doing prep for free agency and
12:09
studying all of those NFL players, really
12:11
doing deep dive players, watching four or
12:13
five games on college prospect, sitting down,
12:15
being fully committed to who is this
12:17
player? What are their strengths and weaknesses?
12:19
Let me put together like my assessment
12:21
of the player, my report of the
12:24
player. That's really only started in the
12:26
last three weeks for me. I'm
12:28
totally fine with it. We'll do the crunch and we'll
12:30
be totally ready for the NFL draft when it comes.
12:33
But I kind of wish I'd done it soon, especially
12:36
after watching Jackson Powers Johnson.
12:40
So Jackson Powers Johnson is
12:42
a center from the University of Oregon.
12:45
He was a consensus four star recruit,
12:47
top five center nationally, according to 247
12:49
Sports ESPN, 247 composite
12:53
and rivals. It
12:55
was the top center out of Utah, originally
12:58
from Utah. He played
13:00
in 11 games as a true freshman,
13:02
spending time on the offensive line before
13:04
spending time at the Alamo Bowl on
13:07
the defensive line. He played 126 snaps
13:09
on offense, 50 on special teams and 31
13:11
on defense. Pretty unique
13:15
athletic profiler started at defensive tackle in
13:17
the Alamo Bowl. Then
13:20
2022 comes and he plays in 12 of Oregon's 13 games, made
13:22
his first start on the offensive line at right guard against Utah.
13:25
Played 400 offensive snaps, 350 snaps at right guard, 44
13:31
at center, five at right tackle and one at left guard. So he's
13:33
moved all over the offensive line with
13:36
the prospect of assembling an offensive line being
13:39
finding the best combination of five players and
13:41
having positional flexibility. It's nice to know that's
13:43
in your chamber. 2023
13:46
comes. He is the first duck and Pac-12
13:48
player to win the Remington trophies,
13:50
the nation's best center.
13:54
Fifth unanimous All-American in program. history
14:00
earned first-team honors from the AFCA
14:02
Associated Press, FWAA Sporting News, and
14:04
Walter Camp starting all 13 games
14:06
for the season at center, opted
14:08
out of the Fiesta Bowl to
14:10
get ready for the NFL Draft. So,
14:13
a highly decorated
14:15
player this season. He
14:18
came into the NFL Combine at 6'3", 328
14:21
pounds. He was a standout
14:23
performer through the first two days of
14:25
the Risa Senior Bowl for his work
14:27
in one-on-ones in an environment that we
14:30
can consistently talk about at All-Star Game
14:32
time of year. It's difficult
14:34
to stand out in the
14:36
All-Star circuit as an offensive lineman
14:39
just because those drills are not really geared
14:41
towards you. And
14:45
when I watch the tape on Jackson Powers Johnson, there's
14:47
some things that do stand out that make him an
14:49
appealing player for the Dolphins. With his
14:52
size, he's very difficult to
14:54
collapse. He has a strong anchor. He is a
14:56
stout player at the point of attack. He
14:59
is not easily moved, uprooted, or
15:01
collapsed. For
15:04
Miami, with two a ton of Aloha, and
15:06
there need to
15:09
have a certain level of stiffness
15:12
to the pocket, specifically the
15:14
interior of the pocket, Jackson Powers
15:16
Johnson makes a lot of sense. You
15:18
watch the highlight reel, the sizzle reel. Offensive
15:21
line sizzle reel for an offensive lineman usually
15:24
involves a lot of KO blocks, and Powers
15:26
Johnson has them in space
15:29
on the edge, getting out
15:31
into space, using good angles, and
15:33
picking off defenders in space. He's
15:35
a 330-pound player. Very
15:38
special skill set in that regard. And
15:41
then in the interior run game, working off double
15:43
teams and climbing up, he's got good jolt with
15:45
his pads and good jolt with his hands to
15:47
work double teams to create an initial surge and
15:50
then get off onto a second defender
15:52
and fit a second defender who's trying to step down
15:54
into the line script. If
16:00
you thought that
16:02
Connor Williams' snap issues were
16:05
bad, I
16:07
beg of you to watch
16:09
the USC game. Watch the USC game
16:11
in its entirety. Watch
16:14
the Washington game. Watch
16:17
the Oregon State game. The
16:21
snap consistencies for Jackson
16:24
Powers Johnson make
16:26
Connor Williams' look like child's play. I
16:29
know there are a lot of Dolphins fans who have
16:32
been on social media as recently as this week asking
16:34
if an Dolphins draft to Jackson Powers Johnson would you
16:36
take Aaron Brewer and would you move the guard and
16:38
play Powers Johnson at center or would you leave Brewer
16:40
at center and play Jackson Powers Johnson at guard. The
16:44
snap issues are a problem. There
16:46
are also a number of false starts at the center that
16:50
are difficult to reconcile. For
16:52
as special of a player as he is out in
16:55
space, I did find it particularly interesting, I
16:57
did not think he was a particularly
16:59
dynamic short area player. His
17:02
ability to in short spaces work
17:05
across the face of a shaded
17:07
one-tag and set the hook. He
17:10
is a much more favorable angle player to
17:13
win an initial angle based on alignment. There's
17:16
times where we're working the double team and we'll step
17:18
and the linebacker fires early and we don't necessarily show
17:20
the short area foot speed to get off that block
17:22
and get totally out in front of that linebacker and
17:24
fit him up. Those
17:29
sorts of things I thought were particularly interesting
17:32
relative to the reputation
17:34
that he has forged
17:37
as a dynamic in-space player. And
17:39
unless you watch snap by snap and you work
17:41
your way through it, you're probably not going to
17:43
see it. So
17:45
I was a little
17:48
surprised to see
17:50
Jackson Powers Johnson with the reputation that he
17:52
has and a slam dunk, talk, 20 pick.
17:55
Somebody that if they often see you on the board
17:57
at 21, they have to run the card and it'd
17:59
be totally unacceptable. not draft this player to have
18:01
snap issues and some penalty stuff. And this is
18:04
first year playing center full time, so I get
18:06
that element as well. But
18:10
I don't know that it gives me
18:12
any more peace of mind. Particularly
18:16
when Miami's playing paying
18:19
Aaron Brewer to
18:21
presumably be the center and
18:23
paying him $7 million per season to do so.
18:27
I'm certainly not drafting Jackson Powers Johnson
18:29
with his own share of snap issues
18:32
to come in and be the center and
18:34
then make the $7 million a year player
18:37
play of spot that he's less impactful at
18:39
too. Because I watched Aaron Brewer the
18:41
prior year in 2022 play guard and
18:44
I think he's a much better player at center. So
18:46
if you're looking for best combination of five, I do
18:48
not think Jackson Powers Johnson at center is
18:52
a part of a best possible combination of five if the Dolphins were
18:54
to add him onto the roster. And
18:58
I didn't love
19:02
the inside zone and the short
19:04
area agility versus the open field
19:06
instincts and fluidity and
19:09
understanding of
19:11
what angles I need to take to pick
19:14
off this second level player. He's
19:16
got a ton of power. I think he's a good player. I think
19:18
he's going to be a good player. I think he'd be a good
19:20
player for the Dolphins. I
19:23
just don't think it should be at center. I
19:26
would draft him to play guard. And
19:29
when you get into the conversation of what we
19:31
expect Miami to
19:35
invest in early, I don't think
19:37
center's really in that conversation. Specifically after
19:39
they paid Aaron Brewer $7 million
19:44
a season to be a center, presumably. I
19:48
also thought it was a little interesting that some
19:52
of the insiders who
19:55
source league sources did
19:58
not have Jackson Powers Johnson. as well
20:01
represented in the early portions of their
20:03
player rankings is what the media does and
20:05
After watching the tape. I now understand why
20:09
There's some questions with this. This is not the slam
20:11
dunk player you've been sold on That's
20:13
not to say he would not be a good player or
20:15
a viable scheme fit or a player that I would not
20:17
be fired up About adding to the team. I Don't
20:20
think I draft him at 21. He
20:22
certainly would not be just looking at my board
20:24
my draft board here over here The
20:27
players that I'm grading through the lens
20:29
of grading them for the Dolphins specifically
20:31
I have a difficult time envisioning him being
20:33
among the five best available players at 21 So
20:42
that's Jackson Powers Johnson We
20:44
are going to talk Christian Haynes next
20:46
here on this episode of locked on dolphins stick
20:50
with us Christian
20:56
Haynes University of Yukon Is
20:59
a very fun player. He's
21:01
got that same Nasty
21:06
that both of these previous two players that we've talked
21:08
about have and I think that's an important element for the Dolphins to
21:10
seek as they look to upgrade
21:14
this offensive line unit guys
21:18
with The glass eaters right? That's
21:20
one of those scouting euphemisms that that always makes me
21:22
chuckle is the guy that Always
21:25
makes me chuckle is the guys that are
21:27
really hard-nosed They're
21:30
very blue collar They
21:32
finish plays they take guys to the
21:34
ground. They look for big shots. They
21:37
punish pass rushers and punish jumpers They
21:40
will bury smaller defenders in space Christian
21:43
Hayes does that too? This is a
21:45
redshirt senior player He came
21:47
into the NFL Combine at six foot two and
21:49
three quarters another three hundred
21:52
seventeen pound player So
21:54
a lot of size for these three guys 317
21:56
for foot on who 328 at the combine for
22:00
Powers Johnson and 3-17 for
22:02
Christian Hates. He
22:05
was AP All-American third team
22:07
in 2022 and 2023
22:11
playing right guard for UConn.
22:13
That in itself is an accomplishment because UConn
22:16
is not the football program that it once was when they
22:18
were in the Big East and it's
22:21
not the football program that's on the
22:23
same stratosphere as Washington and Oregon playing
22:25
in the Pac-12 championship for a chance
22:27
to go to college football playoff. He
22:29
originally went to Bowie High School, played
22:32
three seasons there on the offensive line.
22:34
He's from Maryland, played two games
22:36
during his redshirt season in 2018, started at right guard in 2019,
22:39
started 12 games on the offensive
22:42
line in 2021, started all 13 games in 2022 at guard and then all
22:44
of the games 12 games at
22:50
guard this season starting 49 career
22:53
games consecutively on the offensive
22:55
line for UConn. UConn
22:57
allowed just 12 sacks on the season
23:00
in 2023. Goes
23:02
to the senior bowl, has a nice showing
23:04
there. The thing that pops to me about
23:06
Christian Hates is in spite of being a 317-pound
23:09
player, this
23:12
dude blocks zone as good
23:14
as any in-tier offensive lineman
23:16
in the class. Wide zone, working
23:21
through a first level defender to
23:23
give a kickstand to my offensive tackle to get a piece
23:25
of him so he could set the hook and then getting
23:27
up on a linebacker, he's good. If he's got
23:29
to push out in the space,
23:31
he's good. They're gonna run, they're gonna run pin and
23:33
pull and get outside and he's gonna have to lead
23:35
up and get up the field. He
23:37
can do it and he can, he's really good on the hook.
23:40
He ran a 503 in the 40 yard
23:42
dash. That's 93rd percentile for offensive guards in the
23:44
NFL Combine since 2000. He
23:46
runs well. We
23:49
talk about this lower body explosiveness, those
23:51
jumps, 94th percentile
23:53
vertical jump, 33 inch vertical jump at
23:55
317 pounds of the NFL Combine. It's
23:58
explosive player. Now
24:01
he has his own unique set of
24:03
limitations. I think he's a guard
24:05
exclusive player which certainly hurts his value when you're
24:07
looking to forecast even Rob Hunt who they insisted
24:09
as a Pro Bowl guard. It's Pro Bowl guard.
24:12
It's Pro Bowl guard. Well it never really happened.
24:16
And then he goes on and gets $20 million a year from the Carolina
24:18
Panthers. He came in a
24:20
league as a tackle. He played Louisiana as
24:22
a tackle. Christian
24:24
Haynes definitively a guard exclusive
24:27
player. So
24:30
that hurts his profile a little
24:32
bit more as far as
24:35
the valuation of the player. I
24:38
would not be surprised if
24:40
Miami only gets two cracks at this dude. Some of
24:42
these Minecraft simulators have guard only players
24:44
that slide because of positional value. This
24:48
dude is
24:51
a very consistently impactful football
24:53
player. And he's mean. He's
24:56
mean. You're watching him. He's locked
24:58
up on guys. The defender starts to turn away
25:00
and he rides him in the ground. Oh
25:03
you're a safety. You're going to run the alley when I'm
25:06
pulling out getting out front on these perimeter runs. I'm going
25:08
to bury you. He's
25:10
got an attitude about it. I
25:12
love that part of his game. They played
25:14
NC State. Right. NC State Peyton
25:16
Wilson standout linebacker. He put Peyton Wilson in
25:18
the ground. He
25:21
slingshot in NC State's defensive tackles flipping
25:23
in five yards in his backfield on
25:25
outside runs. He's using his
25:28
hands to leverage and force him to go the long
25:30
way around the loop. But when you try and
25:32
run by me I'm not done with you. And I'm going to
25:34
flip you. Like
25:37
really impressive tape for a player of his stature.
25:39
But he's a better run blocker than he is
25:41
a pass protector. He's a guard
25:43
exclusive player. Kind
25:46
of profiles similarly to what Shaq Mason was coming
25:48
out of Georgia Tech. And obviously Georgia Tech they
25:50
run all that triple option and all that kind
25:53
of stuff. So Mason took a
25:55
while but developed into a Pro Bowl
25:57
Calvert player in New England before going to
25:59
Tampa. and then Tampa gets traded to Houston. He's
26:02
getting $12 million a year, Shaq Mason. I
26:06
think Christian Haynes can be that kind of player where
26:08
he's got that squatty build. He's
26:10
got pretty good length. He's got over 33 inch arms, 33 and a
26:12
half inches. So he's got
26:14
significant reach. He's technically got tackle
26:17
reach at under six
26:19
foot three. So he's
26:21
got naturally squatty frame to stay
26:23
under your pads and play low. He's
26:26
got a better reach than you think, but not
26:28
too long, not excessively long where his punch timing
26:30
is going to be longer. And when everything happens
26:33
quicker inside, that can be a detriment to your
26:35
consistency and getting hands on defenders. And
26:39
I think an offensive scheme like
26:41
Miami's that is predicated around explosiveness
26:44
off the ball. We
26:46
want everything to look the same until it's not for
26:48
the offensive line. More often than not.
26:51
We don't want to do a ton of
26:53
true dropback passing. I think Haynes
26:55
can develop into a good player in that
26:57
regard, but early on, a scheme that's
26:59
going to encourage him, be aggressive,
27:01
get out the blocks, make it look like run.
27:04
And if it's a run, then finish the run.
27:06
And if it's not a run, then
27:09
gear down, make sure you're
27:11
flowing horizontally and laterally. So
27:15
everybody creates that displacement
27:18
and then you can get your hands on. And then
27:20
it's just a matter of having reactive quickness to mirror.
27:23
I think he has that about his game too. And he
27:25
has that grittiness about him that he
27:27
stays sticky. If
27:30
I were to rank these three players, Troy
27:33
Fotano is going to be,
27:35
I'll spoil this. He's going to be amongst
27:37
my top eight overall prospects in the 2024
27:39
NFL Draft, when graded specifically for the Dolphins.
27:43
Top eight overall player. You
27:45
do backflips if he's on the board of 21. You
27:48
do backflips and
27:50
you sprint that card in. And
27:52
a lot of people have had that opinion of
27:54
Jackson Powers Johnson. He'll
27:57
be a... I
28:00
think an adequate starter early in his career,
28:02
particularly if he plays at guard. But
28:05
I think his ceiling is higher at guard than it
28:07
is at center. And there's more uncertainty about him at
28:09
center. Specifically in
28:11
Miami, where the athleticism of that
28:14
position, that individual
28:16
position where you're uncovered more
28:18
frequently in passing down, so
28:20
you're more frequently not occupied. So you can
28:22
release out in the space for their screen
28:25
game, where there are timing routes where we're
28:27
going to get the ball into our skill
28:29
players early and try to set up blocks
28:31
in advance. Where he remembers that awesome, uh,
28:34
Savon Ahmed screen
28:36
touchdown. That would
28:38
be if, uh, HN
28:41
hadn't gone out where the center
28:43
releases and it's like a Texas route screen,
28:46
those kinds of plays, all of that.
28:48
I think the, um, the
28:51
athleticism is there to do it for Jackson
28:53
Powers Johnson. But the
28:55
snap issues and the consistency with the
28:57
execution on a timing based offense
29:00
feels like a big leap to take
29:02
that I would not be prepared for. He's
29:04
going to be a first round player on my grading,
29:07
but as a guard and as a result, drafting
29:10
him at 21 feels like
29:12
it's going to be a long shot for things that I
29:14
would strongly, strongly advocate. You never know how the
29:16
board's going to break and maybe that would be the case. But
29:21
for me, that's a, he's a guard. Exclusive
29:24
and that removes some of the
29:27
universal appeal of what everybody
29:29
has been talking for months about. And
29:32
then Christian Haynes for me is a firm
29:34
second round valuation. I think if he's there
29:37
at 55, if you don't go offensive line
29:39
earlier, uh, that's a very attractive fit.
29:44
But the, there's more dominoes in front of it that
29:46
make it less of an obvious decision, the only
29:49
obvious decision here is if Fataan
29:51
is there you drafted. And
29:54
if you draft Jackson powers Johnson, I
29:56
think it's obvious you don't play him at center. That's
30:00
gonna do it for us here on this episode of locked
30:02
on dolphins I hope you enjoyed the deep dive into the
30:04
offensive line. We're gonna do more offensive linemen some defensive linemen
30:06
next week I'm
30:08
gonna try and cover as much ground as we possibly
30:11
can to get you guys ready for the 2024
30:13
NFL Draft of Kyle crabs keep it locked in
30:15
right here on locked on dolphins Enjoy
30:17
