season blueprint continues with our 2024

0:07

0:09

the Dolphins could do with some of my

0:11

other moves building up to the draft to

0:13

help field this complete and talented

and is promising of a long term

roster as possible this upcoming season.

1:17

the 2024 Miami Dolphins off

1:19

season blueprint. And if today's the first day

1:21

you've had a chance to clock in, welcome,

1:24

but I got bad news for you. You got

1:27

to go back and you got to watch Monday

1:29

and Tuesday and Wednesday because we covered salary cap

1:31

compliance. The dolphins are well on their way with

1:33

some of that, the decisions that they have made

1:35

thus far in actuality this off season. We

1:39

did free agency class, both the internal members of

1:41

the Miami dolphins and external members

1:43

for what my draft or my free

1:45

agent class would be for bringing talent

1:47

into the fray for Miami. And

1:51

then yesterday was the big conversation. The

1:53

two a tongue of a lower contract

1:55

discussion ESPN's Adam Schefter had a

1:58

report yesterday that that move

2:02

may take some time but the expectation is it will

2:04

be done before training camp and that's

2:06

an important note because throughout

2:09

the timeline of this offseason

2:12

blueprint I have not baked

2:14

the two a tongue of a little extra cap space as

2:17

a necessity for any of the moves that were

2:19

made so free agents that have been added player

2:23

cuts all that kind of stuff salary cap

2:25

compliance exists with

2:28

this this would be my

2:30

draft class and what I've done is I use

2:32

one of the many mock draft simulators that are

2:35

out there hashtag no free pub though and

2:38

I had everything else in line I used

2:40

a bunch of the simulators a bunch of times to figure

2:42

out which one I thought gave me the best experience

2:47

and then I plugged in and I said all right this

2:49

is it this is the draft

2:52

and whatever happens happens whatever players are

2:54

on the board are on the board whatever

2:56

players are off the board or off the board it's

2:58

not really up to me I'm

3:00

gonna make the best decisions I can with what

3:03

I am at Mercy with this simulation we're

3:05

gonna go over the results

3:07

of that mock draft complimenting the

3:10

free agency moves from Tuesday on the

3:12

offseason blueprint as

3:14

well so final reminder

3:16

I like to start every show in the

3:18

offseason blueprint with this this is my best

3:21

effort based on what we understand is the

3:23

objective and the direction the team is committed

3:25

to this offseason to maximize

3:27

the roster for 2024 and the

3:30

resources with what are at the

3:32

Dolphins disposal let's

3:36

get into the 2024 Miami

3:39

Dolphins offseason blueprint by starting about the

3:41

needs we touched on this briefly yesterday

3:43

I guess on Tuesday the

3:47

needs for this team going

3:49

into the draft the team

3:51

has three

3:55

to a tongue of a lower contract

3:57

extensions after

4:00

their free agent class, the top 51, you have about

4:02

$2.5 million in cap space at

4:04

your disposal. The nice thing about

4:06

that, you don't have to sign the

4:08

rookies until after, like you have the rookies rights.

4:11

So it's not as though you go through the draft

4:14

and you're like, okay, we have $2.5 million to

4:16

sign our rookies, hope we can fit it

4:18

in because you

4:20

have teams that routinely

4:23

extend out into

4:26

the summer to formally sign the contract with

4:28

their rookie players. But the

4:30

needs for this team based off

4:33

the free agency moves that I've made, the

4:36

two most pressing needs that the team has

4:39

is a starting interior offensive lineman and

4:41

a starting interior defensive line. I

4:44

do have Aaron Brewer and Damien Lewis as starters on

4:46

the interior offensive line that have come into the fray

4:48

here, but that third

4:50

spot is still

4:52

a need. The interior defensive line,

4:55

Christian Wilkins has walked in free agency,

4:57

presumably off to greener in

4:59

the way of cash, pastures, pun

5:01

intended, I suppose. Rayquan

5:05

Davis was not a part of my

5:07

replacement plan either. Now

5:09

the team got Folliphatu Kasi in free

5:12

agency, but it's Zach Seeler,

5:14

Brandon Pealey, Folliphatu Kasi. You need a start

5:16

of it. The secondary needs,

5:18

Edge rusher. You have Andrew

5:20

Van Gekel back as a part of my

5:22

off season blueprint plan. Again, I go over

5:25

all of these moves on Tuesday. If you

5:27

missed that show. Riley

5:29

Chubb, Jaylen Phillips, obviously your star players there, they're

5:32

coming back off of injuries that were season ending.

5:34

Andrew Van Gekel is brought back. I

5:36

also signed Marquis Haynes Sr. in

5:38

free agency. I think he's

5:41

ideally a fifth guy though, is just a rotational

5:43

guy. A third wide

5:45

receiver, the wide receiver room has been gutted. Part

5:48

of the off season blueprint included Devin DuVernay and

5:51

bringing back River Craycraft, but DuVernay is more of

5:53

a special teams weapon than

5:55

he is a volume player in the passing game.

5:58

So you still need somebody you feel like. And

6:02

Azuqama could be that player, but

6:05

do you totally want to put your eggs in that basket?

6:07

I'm not sure that I do. I'd rather have a hedge

6:09

and more competition. And

6:12

then ancillary needs amongst other needs like punter. I

6:14

don't have a punter on the roster right now.

6:17

That's a need. Running back competition, secondary

6:19

depth, both that corner and safety. Those

6:23

are kind of your needs. Going into

6:25

the mock draft. And

6:28

the first thing that I knew going

6:30

in was I wanted to use a simulator

6:32

that offered you traits. Because

6:35

I knew going in at

6:37

a short list of players, and

6:39

we'll go through that list when we actually do like

6:41

our pre-draft build up. But at a

6:43

short list of about eight players that

6:46

if any of them were on the board, it would

6:48

be difficult to trade down away

6:51

from those talents. It's

6:53

a bit of a buzzkill because I do want to add more

6:55

draft picks. Adding more draft picks is

6:57

like the 1B priority for

6:59

this draft. And of my mentality going

7:02

in because again as the

7:04

team kind of transitions and they get ready for the

7:06

next era and generation of

7:08

big contracts with players that they drafted

7:11

to get those contracts. Good

7:13

example is Christian Wilkins leaving is not necessarily,

7:16

oh, they're giving out a quarterback contract. It's

7:18

oh, we got Jalen Philson, Jalen Wanlin, Jevon

7:20

Holland all coming up. And

7:22

our timeline to transition away from the contracts

7:24

of Xavier Howard and Bradley

7:26

Chubb and Jalen

7:30

Ramsey and Toronto Armstead. Like those

7:32

all aren't going to happen at

7:34

once because there's exit ramps on

7:36

those contracts that make sense

7:38

to use at different times. So you

7:40

can feather and layer the contracts over top of

7:42

each other. But

7:45

to do them all at once, it's

7:47

too much dead cap. So you do need

7:49

to kind of create the spike in draft

7:52

capital. And I had a listener

7:54

who pointed out to me yesterday was chatting

7:56

with me and say, hey, I don't know if you notice,

7:59

but last two years, dolphins. last three

8:01

years. Dolphins have made

8:04

seven day three draft picks and

8:06

five of them have been seventh round picks and

8:09

to be fair with the state of what the roster was

8:11

a lot of those picks fifth

8:14

sixth round probably would

8:16

not have made the Dolphins roster. Case

8:19

in point they they used one on

8:21

Elijah Higgins last year and he didn't make the roster and

8:23

everybody was bummed out he got claimed off waivers that's just

8:26

oh you got a good team contrary to popular

8:28

belief for what some people would have you believe about the

8:30

Dolphins roster. Now

8:33

the challenge is to ride

8:35

the wave of the transition to extend

8:37

your window in which you can be

8:39

competitive and

8:41

not have the floor drop too low and that's

8:44

what they're trying to accomplish and that's what the blueprints

8:46

is trying to accomplish with me doing it

8:48

to the best of my ability as well. So

8:51

I a long way of saying I

8:54

knew I wanted a simulator that offered

8:56

trades because I was going to field

8:58

offers unless there was a no-brainer talent

9:01

that was available and on the board for me

9:03

to pick with that pick at

9:05

number 21 overall. What

9:08

did we actually get? What's the range that made sense

9:10

for me to come down off of? I'm glad you

9:12

asked. That's next here on this episode

9:14

of Lockdown Dolphins as we get ready

11:30

let's get

11:32

into the draft, right? The draft is done. I've

11:34

got the graphic all set up, but,

11:37

uh, uh, I would like

11:39

to spoil this by saying I did trade down.

11:41

I did have an offer that I thought was

11:43

particularly attractive, uh, in trading

11:45

down and the offer

11:47

included going to the Arizona Cardinals spot at

11:49

27 Over all courtesy of the

11:51

Houston Texans. And When you look at the. Look

12:00

at this first round order. I

12:03

was an overly it. Inclined. To.

12:06

Move. All the way out of the first round. Up

12:09

but. I do think there's a few spots that

12:11

have surplus picks that might be can look at say

12:13

hey this might be a teen, it's willing to play

12:15

ball with us. The. Offer I

12:17

got from Arizona was twenty seven

12:20

overall so down six spots for

12:22

pick number ninety. And. Pick

12:24

Number Thirty One Thirty Seven. See.

12:26

A three to four. To. Move down six

12:28

spots from twenty one to twenty seven. Of

12:32

us get that the a real life mean you're

12:34

given a top one hundred pick him in one

12:36

thirty seven which you compare with wanted the seven

12:39

a potentially get up into the top one

12:41

twenty if you wanted to. ah you can tap

12:43

into future draft capital the combo and parlay

12:45

that pig you can trade down and a one

12:47

of those other pics on day two and

12:49

really like create despite it's not hard. To.

12:52

Get mid round draft capital starting in about

12:54

the third or fourth round. You.

12:56

Just gotta make the plunge. The. Challenges

12:58

finding the right value. For.

13:01

Trading down. In

13:03

the first round. So. I sail that

13:05

to save my short list of players.

13:08

Who I thought be slam dunks. Take a twenty

13:10

one. I didn't get. They. Were gone

13:12

the board the not break well and I don't

13:14

think the Combine really helped with that either. I

13:16

think a lot of the players I'd love to

13:18

see of Elbow Twenty One have had good combine

13:21

performances to kind of reaffirm their status as players.

13:24

So. I took the trade to go from

13:26

twenty one to twenty seven for ninety and

13:28

One thirty Seven. Arizona

13:30

as a potential trade partner.

13:33

Or abby date they are rolling in it

13:35

because of their moves from this past year.

13:37

They have the Texans first round pick. They

13:40

have Thirty Five, Sixty Six, Seventy

13:42

One from Tennessee. The of

13:45

ninety from Houston. They. Have

13:47

one or five. One. Thirty

13:49

Seven. By. Pathetic. They have

13:51

one two, three, four, five, six in

13:53

the top of one hundred and seven

13:55

in the top one of five. And.

13:58

their sit and six spots behind my any where potentially

14:00

there's a player that might make sense that would get

14:02

them excited, that's a good

14:04

combo. The other

14:07

team to watch is Detroit, I

14:09

think, at pick number 29, that's

14:11

eight spots back. They don't

14:13

have the same surplus as Arizona, but they do have

14:15

two threes, courtesy of the T.J. Hawkins and the other.

14:19

So that's a team that might

14:21

be willing to park with a three because they have

14:23

two to jump up and be a little

14:25

bit more aggressive, whether that's a wide receiver or a

14:27

defensive lineman or something else. So

14:30

those are the two spots I

14:33

had my eye on going in and sure enough, I get the offer

14:35

in the simulator from Arizona and I go down. So

14:38

what did I do with it? What did

14:40

we do with this draft pick? Well,

14:43

I didn't even address the primary

14:45

need because the draft class

14:47

at pick number 27 was

14:50

Darius Robinson, defensive

14:52

end from University of Missouri and

14:55

nobody has greater Charles Harris PTSD

14:57

than me. I promise you that.

15:00

Because when that draft in 2017 rolled around, Joe

15:02

Marino, my co-host on lockdown at Felskoutie, asked me

15:05

in the elevator on the way to where we

15:07

were doing the broadcast that night, worst

15:09

case scenario pick of 22, who was it? I said, Charles Harris,

15:11

I did not skip a beat. Was not a

15:13

fan of his game. It's a different player, it's

15:15

a different scheme. We'll talk about them in a

15:18

minute. But I'll run you through all

15:20

the picks. Pick

15:22

number 55, Miami's organic pick in the

15:24

second round. A

15:26

starter on the offensive line, in my

15:28

mind. Christian Hayes, offensive

15:31

guard, University of Connecticut. Pick

15:34

number 90, which came

15:36

courtesy of that trade back with

15:38

Arizona from 21 to 27. Wide

15:42

receiver Malachi Corley, Western

15:45

Kentucky. We'll talk about all

15:47

these players, but I do wanna introduce them

15:49

first. And then came the other big move

15:51

that I made. I went

15:54

out and made a deal. And

15:56

I got another top 100 pick. And I Used pick 137.

16:00

Which. Was a fourth round draft selection that I got in

16:02

the trade back from Arizona. And.

16:04

I paired it with a twenty Twenty Five.

16:07

Third, Round pick. And

16:10

you my sake how, that's ridiculous. Nobody would

16:12

do that. This exact same trade almost happened

16:15

two years ago. The.

16:17

Carolina Panthers. Said.

16:19

One Thirty Seven. The same pick.

16:22

And a third round pick in the

16:24

next year's Nfl draft. Or.

16:27

Ninety Four Overall. To

16:30

draft Matt Corallo the quarterback out

16:32

of Old Miss. Now sometimes process

16:34

vs results. He. Went up the

16:37

got a quarterback growls Allen league already

16:39

is twenty twenty two draft. That's.

16:41

Not great. But.

16:44

The point being. I

16:47

went up from One thirty seven to ninety

16:49

one because there was two players when I

16:51

picked it ninety that had my eye, one

16:54

of which was Malik I corps. And.

16:56

The other which was that need a

16:59

position. At in your defensive

17:01

line. Mckinley. Jackson,

17:03

the defensive tackle from Texas A

17:05

and M the picket Ninety One.

17:09

So. The top one hundred p signed with for top

17:11

one hundred picks courtesy the trade down for twenty one

17:13

to twenty seven. And. Then

17:15

utilizing the last of those pics I got

17:17

in that tree back with a future three.

17:19

And the nice thing about what Miami's all

17:21

season looks like in the way that we've

17:23

drawn this up. His you can get

17:25

to a point you could get a compensatory third

17:28

round pick for Christian Wilkins Walking Fried. It's. So.

17:31

You may have to third round picks. And

17:33

based on how friends he shakes out there going I cannot

17:35

understand if they have to to work with are not. Enough.

17:38

They don't. That I

17:40

see you can move down. A few

17:42

spots in the first round, lecturing in that back.

17:46

Sudairis. Robinson Defensive end.

17:50

Good. Hedge on the injuries along with intervene

17:52

key goal of puts Mark he says the

17:55

edge five spawn. Christian.

18:04

And Aaron Brewer as your center. Malachi

18:06

Corley, kind of your

18:09

Ezu-Kanma hedge. His

18:11

nickname is the Rack King. McKinley

18:14

Jackson, a 325-pound interior defensive

18:16

lineman who once

18:19

upon a time was regarded because of his

18:21

recruiting profiles, a potential first round pick. He

18:23

hasn't fulfilled that. But

18:26

the body type, it's 6'1 1.5, 220 pounds, fits

18:31

the Anthony Weaver nose tackle

18:34

type of build. And

18:37

then Miami has all four

18:40

of their organic picks

18:42

currently scheduled, one

18:44

of which came from Chicago with the Danfini trade on

18:48

day three. 157 is running

18:51

back Isaac Garendo, who

18:54

was a monster performer at

18:56

the 2024 NFL Combine. So

18:58

it was like one of the best combine performances

19:00

of all time type of good. 433,

19:03

41.5 inch vert, 10'9 broad, sub 7 second 3 cone

19:09

drill, which is outrageously good at 6' 220

19:12

pounds. Formerly

19:15

University of Wisconsin transfers to Louisville, never really had

19:17

the production that came together. But holy cow, what

19:19

an athletic profile to get at 157 for a

19:22

220 pound back. Florida

19:26

State defensive back, Jerrion Jones at 186.

19:30

The Dolphins get their punter and Tori Taylor,

19:33

the multi-year all-American. The

19:35

University of Iowa picked 200. And let's be

19:37

honest, what positional player are you going to pick at 200 that

19:39

probably makes the roster? Not many. Drafted

19:42

a specialist here. It's a good spot. And

19:45

then at 239, Tip Ryman, tight

19:48

end from University of Illinois, a

19:50

little bit more of a traditional

19:52

in-line player, perhaps a developmental Durham-Smites

19:55

replacement player. Wouldn't expect him to make

19:57

the roster, but he plays in line. He could block. The

20:00

Protect. That's

20:02

my draft class and it was eight picks.

20:05

Twenty. Seven though that the the for top owner

20:11

Or see: Connecticut Molokai Corley Wide

20:19

20:22

20:25

the draft class. And there

20:27

were two trades that helped facilitate that one back

20:30

in the first round. One. Up

20:32

from the fourth round which you got courtesy the

20:34

20:36

22:19

our joint through the 2024 Miami

22:22

dolphins off season blueprint continues

22:25

here on locked

22:27

on dolphins with a draft class that I'm a big

22:29

fan of. I like the

22:31

talent that was acquired didn't

22:34

necessarily address the most pressing of

22:37

needs for

22:39

the first pick with Darius

22:41

Robinson. But let's

22:43

talk about Darius Robinson. His selection of pick

22:46

number 27. You

22:48

need about $2 million in cap space to sign all of these

22:50

guys in your one by the way as

22:52

top 51. Darius

22:55

Robinson originally played inside kind

22:58

of a hybrid defensive lineman type can kick

23:00

in the be gap can rush outside. He

23:03

cut weight prior to this past season and then posted eight

23:05

sacks and 14 eight and a half

23:07

sacks and 14 tackles for loss. He had

23:09

a monster glow up play on the outside,

23:11

but a big time like heavy

23:14

handed long armed

23:17

prototype build explosive

23:20

player. I think that's the thing that really

23:22

stood out to him. So he

23:24

came into the combine at six five 285 a little

23:28

bit of a different cat than Andrew Van Ginkle on

23:30

the edge, right? We

23:33

had 34 and a half inch arms and

23:36

he tested well enough. Now he didn't test

23:38

great in the 40 yard dash. It

23:40

was a four nine ran a four nine, but

23:43

the lower body initial explosiveness a

23:45

35 inch vert

23:49

and a nine foot three broad jump for a

23:51

player of his stature at 285 pounds is really,

23:54

really good lower body explosives. And

23:57

you watch him on tape and you watched the.

24:00

the success

24:02

that he had when he played more

24:04

against tackles. And there were times where

24:07

he's lined up on inside shoulder tackles, and that left him open

24:09

to more double teams and all that kind of stuff. But

24:11

you watched him this year, and

24:15

where he was able to isolate on offensive

24:17

tackles and really abuse them with

24:19

his power. The power rush

24:22

is a good way to translate to the

24:24

NFL, because it's about reducing angles as compared

24:26

to having to play at steep angles. But

24:30

the length here, this is everything

24:33

that Jalen Phillips is. Now, not

24:35

quite the same athletic profile. Bradley

24:38

Chubb, they've gone after the

24:40

last few years, big bodied edge guys.

24:43

And if this is a guy that kind of stays in

24:45

the range where he's at, and he can

24:48

rush inside at times, it leaves you a chance to

24:50

get your best four rushers on the field. And

24:53

there's a developmental curve here,

24:55

which gives you a chance to tap into, and

24:57

we'll talk about this tomorrow, the exit ramp on

25:00

the Bradley Chubb contract, even after we restructured him

25:02

in the blueprint this year for

25:04

more calf space. Really,

25:07

really promising player that got put into a

25:10

position this past year that allowed him to be

25:13

a more successful player. You

25:16

take that and you foil that with Christian

25:18

Haynes from

25:21

University of Connecticut, and

25:23

he is a really,

25:26

really good fit

25:30

for the zone

25:34

system that Miami is expected

25:36

to run. Christian

25:38

Haynes is really

25:43

effective getting out of the blocks.

25:46

He's really effective climbing to the second

25:48

level. They ran a

25:50

lot of outside zone and he

25:53

got up onto linebackers effectively. He's

25:55

a plus athlete, but he's also 6'2

25:57

and 3'10. So

26:00

you think about a shorter stature quarterback

26:04

into a tongue of a low end. I think

26:06

that's an interesting subplot when you

26:08

consider Robert Hunt

26:10

was a 6'5 right guard. And

26:16

Tuah is 6'1, right? And Liam

26:18

Eichenberg is a former

26:20

college tackle. Liam Eichenberg

26:23

is 6'6. You

26:27

got Connor Williams, who is a former,

26:29

you guessed it, college tackle, who's

26:31

playing center. He's

26:34

6'5. So you got

26:36

these bigger bodied players inside

26:39

amidst a shorter quarterback versus

26:41

Amy Lewis is 6'2. Christian

26:44

Hayes is 6'2. Aaron

26:47

Brewer is not the same

26:49

stature either. He's 6'1. So

26:52

you're getting players that

26:54

are more proportionate to the height of your quarterback to

26:56

kind of help your quarterback work that area of the field

26:59

so long as they're properly engaging with defensive line. Malachi

27:02

Corley, really,

27:04

really dynamic with the ball

27:06

in his hands. And that's

27:09

really what so much of this offense, it aspires

27:11

to be about. He had a

27:13

monster year in 2022 with Bailey's Abbey. Caught

27:16

101 balls for 1300 yards and 11

27:18

touchdowns. And

27:21

a lot of that work came after the catch in that college spring.

27:24

Now without Bailey's Abbey, still had a good season.

27:26

He played two less games. So the production was

27:28

down. Still 11

27:30

touchdowns. His yards per touch

27:32

was about the same 12. But

27:36

he had just short of a thousand yards on 79 catches versus one

27:38

on one for 1300 in It's

27:43

the build, 5'11", 200. It's

27:46

a little bit of a different body type than

27:49

what Miami is currently

27:51

bringing to the table with Jalen

27:53

Waddle and Tyree Kill and obviously,

27:56

Craig, River Craigcraft, who's been

27:58

brought back and our blueprint. has Devin Duerde

28:00

like you need a little bit more size. You

28:05

get that with Malachi Corley. Now

28:07

McKinley Jackson, the defensive tackle, we

28:09

mentioned briefly kind of his build. He came

28:11

into the combine at six, one and a

28:13

half, 34 inch arms, 326 pounds. Never

28:20

really took the leaf that

28:22

you thought he could with the explosiveness and the

28:24

athletic profile that he had. But

28:27

still somebody who's played a lot, he's

28:29

a multi-year captain at Texas A&M. He

28:33

did play over the nose as

28:35

center, nose

28:37

tackle quite a bit. And

28:40

you see the leverage. And

28:43

that was the thing when I saw him on the board, I'm

28:45

like, man, this is such a

28:47

Baltimore Ravens nose tackle type of player.

28:50

And if you're gonna run that scheme, the

28:52

contrast of a six, one nose tackle at 326

28:56

versus a six, seven nose tackle at 330, it's

28:59

just a whole different physics game in there. And

29:02

that got me really excited about that possibility. And that's

29:04

what helped me spur, especially when you

29:06

look behind him, there's not a

29:08

lot of attractive nose tackle options in this class

29:11

behind T'Londre Sweatt and McKinley Jackson.

29:14

So with him there in the late third round, I said, yeah, let's

29:16

go get him. We

29:18

mentioned Garendo and his explosive

29:21

athletic profile. It's

29:24

a bet on traits pick, right? And

29:26

it's a fifth round draft selection and he's coming in, he's

29:29

gonna be your third running back at best

29:32

because you do have most written H-hand

29:34

under contract. So, but it's

29:36

a nice flyer on some size. And

29:39

that's the big difference with him and Chris Brooks,

29:41

where I think Garendo gives you a

29:43

nice leg

29:45

up, is Brooks is

29:48

a nice player, but he went on drafted

29:50

because he's not explosive. This

29:52

is a four three player at

29:54

220 pounds. You kidding me? Garendo

29:59

Jones competition. for the the cornerback room.

30:02

Tori Taylor, we mentioned you're drafting to be

30:04

a starting center or

30:06

starting punter, not center. We don't want to put the punter

30:09

in center. It only happens at Madden, right? And

30:12

then you obviously have Tip Reimann, your seventh round developmental

30:15

in-line replacement title. I

30:17

like the class a lot and the thought process,

30:20

I thought the board fell favorably. Some players that

30:22

I missed out on that I was hoping not

30:24

to. Troy Fotanu, offensive

30:26

tackle, could play

30:28

guard for you year one. Would

30:30

be a Toronto Armstead

30:33

heir apparent. At

30:35

University of Washington, crushed the combine, missed

30:38

there. Brock Bowers would have

30:40

been there even with Noah Fant. I'd

30:42

have entertained it because you can move on

30:44

from Durham's Might relatively

30:47

quickly and obviously I did draft another tight end.

30:49

I would love to see more two tight end

30:51

stuff that works for Miami but

30:54

you need a right blend of that for

30:56

that to happen. I

31:00

would have considered a number

31:03

of pass rushers at 21. Jared Vers,

31:05

probably first on that list for me personally. I

31:08

know a lot of people like Lea Toulatou. I

31:10

like Lea Toulatou. I think he's got the best

31:12

pass rush tape. But Vers,

31:14

it's that heavy-handedness that you want

31:16

to complement what else you

31:18

have. There

31:24

was Quinn Yaw Mitchell, corner. I think he's probably going

31:26

to go top 10 predictably. If he'd have been there

31:28

21, I'd have ran that card in. That dude just

31:30

stud. An absolute

31:32

stud. Height, weight, speed, checks, all the

31:34

boxes. You can play any kind of coverage you want out there.

31:37

Then Jackson Powers Johnson was not there either. Now

31:40

there's more names on that list. I

31:42

don't want to give away a whole future show's worth

31:44

here. But

31:46

those were where my eyes were at as

31:48

I came into the process. Let's

31:51

talk a little bit about what the projected lineup

31:53

looks like through the

31:56

draft with the offseason

31:58

blueprint that I've put together. of my

32:00

proposal in trying to project

32:03

player values as best as you possibly can.

32:05

Obviously in mock draft, there's a ton

32:07

of unpredictability around what players are going

32:09

to be available, the feasibility of trades.

32:12

I get all that guys. I'm

32:14

just doing the best I can with the tools that

32:16

we have to put the best roster together that we

32:18

possibly can with the resources the team has available, which

32:20

is the whole spirit of

32:22

the 2024 Miami Dolphins offseason blueprint. So

32:25

projected starters pre June 1st

32:28

in my mom. And

32:31

all this could still happen. You may see Jerome Baker

32:33

on this list though. Obviously he was cut on

32:36

Tuesday. I

32:38

heard they do have an offer on

32:40

the table though, for him to come back to if

32:43

his market does not end up being what he

32:45

ultimately would like to find for himself. Starting

32:50

offensive group. I have the dolphins in

32:52

21 personnel. This

32:55

is their best players. Obviously,

32:58

if you are in true 21 personnel, you

33:00

probably have Alec Engel on the field. The dolphins were at

33:02

a ton of 21. They ran

33:04

more 21 on first and 10 than anybody else in the league last

33:06

year. But that involves Alec Engel. Two

33:09

a tongue below quarterback running backs,

33:11

Rahimosa and Devan Echan. Your two

33:13

best backs I have listed here.

33:15

Your two best wide receivers or Tyree Kill and

33:18

Jalen Waddle backup players

33:20

behind them as you can and

33:22

Corley as big body types with

33:24

versatility who can win down the field. I

33:28

have Noah Fenton Durham smite that tight end

33:31

and a projected starting offensive line

33:34

of front armstead, Marquis

33:36

Hayes, Aaron Brewer,

33:39

Damien Lewis, and

33:41

Austin Jackson. Mentioned the

33:43

different body types inside, but I've got two adequate

33:46

level starters and Lewis and Brewer that were free

33:48

agent signings and a second round rookie that I

33:50

think can really play. And again, we

33:52

brought back Kendall lamb. We have Lee Mikey bird as

33:55

a utility player and we brought back Isaiah, win

33:57

as well. So we'll do a full 53 man roster. projection

34:00

and then talk about 2025 cap

34:02

outlook tomorrow. That's tomorrow's show. But

34:05

those are your key players on offense. Your

34:08

defense, your starting front would

34:10

have Phillips and Chubb win healthy. Your backups behind

34:12

them, which will be important early in the year,

34:15

is rookie Darius Robinson and

34:17

Andrew Van Gickel. Zach

34:20

Seeler, probably going to be

34:22

your penetration type player, and then your

34:24

nose McKinley Jackson.

34:28

Still would like to add here. We'll also

34:30

get into June 1st and opening up another

34:32

$18 million in space and talk about some

34:35

potential June 1st type additions. I'm not going to

34:37

sit here and act like I'm going to know

34:39

what free agents are available. They're going to be

34:41

available in June in reality. So

34:44

there will be like some

34:46

mystery squares that are added to

34:48

the 53 man roster projection of, hey,

34:50

I want to add a post June 1st

34:52

player in this position room. And

34:55

spoiler alert, interior defensive lines is going to be one of those

34:57

spots. Because you'd have Seeler,

35:00

McKinley Jackson, Follie Fatukasi. If you find me

35:02

one more, it's like, all right, I feel

35:04

like I can go to war with this

35:07

group. Your

35:09

starting linebackers for me were David Long and Jerome

35:11

Baker. Reminder, I had Jerome Baker taking a contract

35:13

extension. Sounds like the Dolphins tried to get Baker

35:16

to work on a contract extension, but they couldn't

35:18

figure out the dollar. So they cut

35:20

them for the cap space up front. Your

35:23

starting secondary, Jalen Ramsey, Cam Smith is going to

35:25

have to step into a starting role. It's a

35:27

second round pick last year. Perform well every time

35:29

you had a chance to see him. He's

35:32

going to have to be a player. Kater

35:34

Kohu in the nickel would like to

35:36

think a scheme change would benefit

35:38

Kohu with how unpredictable he was last year. And

35:42

then safety is Javon Holland and Deshaun Elliott.

35:44

Bringing back Deshaun Elliott is one

35:46

of the expiring contracts for Miami this year. So

35:49

you see quite a bit of blue. Just

35:52

off of those projected starters, blue

35:54

on my index key is quality

35:57

starters and roster cornerstones. I've got roster cornerstones

35:59

for Tyra. Gary Killen, Jalen Waddle, Jalen

36:01

Ramsey, Jevon Holland, Jalen

36:04

Phillips, Bradley Chubb, obviously the

36:06

availability of some of those guys are around in question.

36:08

I get that. But

36:11

then quality starters, got

36:13

David Long, I got Zach

36:15

Seeler, I got Tron Armstead, I

36:18

got Tuatang Velloa, I got

36:20

Raheem Mostert, and then adequate

36:22

starters is Noah Fant. I think they're

36:24

ceiling to tap into in this scheme for him to be

36:26

a quality starter. Justin

36:28

Jackson, Damian Lewis, and Aaron Brewer

36:30

on the interiors, and adequate level starters

36:33

that in this scheme I think could

36:35

transcend and become quality starters. Devon

36:37

H. Hahn, Cader Kohu, Deshaun

36:40

Elliott, your only real

36:42

unknown incomplete evaluation you really don't know what

36:44

you have is Cam Smith. I

36:49

feel like it's a pretty competitive team. At

36:53

least in my eyes, maybe you disagree. If

36:55

you do, make sure you let me know.

Comment, reply, like if you're on YouTube, if you find

37:01

us on YouTube, or wherever you listen

37:03

to your favorite podcasts. I'm Kyle Krabs, I'm out

37:05

of here for the day. I appreciate you guys

37:07

checking off the All Season Blueprint. I appreciate you

37:09

guys for listening or watching Lockdown Dolphins. Fins up.

37:12

I got one more coming this week, at least maybe

37:14

we'll get some major news and we'll do the emergency

37:16

podcast because I'm sure we will. Why

37:19

would we not? But do you have all that to

37:21

look forward to? Keep it locked in right here on Lockdown Dolphins. I'm

37:23

out of here. Fins up. I'm

37:26

out of here.
