1:44
a tough loss on Friday night, the Heat
1:46
bounced back with a rare blowout, leading by
1:48
45 at one point to an easy win.
1:51
It was the perfect bounce back, but this
1:53
is a reflection of Miami, or
1:55
is it a reflection of their opponent? Who stepped up to
1:57
lead the team? We break it all down in today's episode

2:49
over the Cavs. But before we get to our
2:51
takeaways from the game, we wanted to tell you
2:53
all about something that we're just really excited about.
2:55
On April 5th, we
2:57
are going to be holding our watch party for
3:00
the Heat's game in Houston. The
3:02
watch party is not going to be in Houston. The Heat will be in Houston.
3:04
We'll still be here. It's going to be
3:07
at the Taurus in Coconut Grove. That's
3:10
where we're going to be doing it. So we've been talking about doing
3:13
a watch party on the show. We
3:16
were really encouraged by the response from our listeners
3:18
and our viewers who said that they'd be interested
3:20
in watching a Heat game with us. The
3:22
owners of the Taurus reached out and we were
3:24
able to put this together. So we're
3:27
really hoping as many of you
3:29
guys come by as possible, have a drink,
3:31
have something to eat. We're really
3:34
excited to meet you. David, I know you're excited about
3:36
this too. Yeah, no, Taurus is a
3:38
Coconut Grove staple, like a South Florida staple in terms
3:41
of like old bars, classic bars.
3:43
And it's been refurbished, new
3:46
ownership, a new management, and
3:48
it's just a great location.
3:51
They've got drink specials for all of our guests
3:53
too. And we can't wait just to see people.
3:56
Again, as you mentioned, the excitement. Yes,
3:58
a watch party. Everybody's responding so positively
4:00
and favorably. I know we did this
4:02
a couple of years ago and
4:05
it was great to meet people. I'm looking forward to
4:07
seeing all those people and some, and then some bring
4:10
your friends, even
4:12
if they don't listen to the show, bring your friends,
4:14
bring your, your partners, bring anybody you want. And
4:16
we, we just would love to talk heat
4:18
basketball, watch the game together. And hopefully it'll
4:21
be another heat win on the road against a
4:23
very surprisingly good Houston Rockets team that has bounced
4:25
back. I think they've won or did nine other
4:27
the last 10. They've been really, really good of
4:29
late. The green has been fantastic.
4:31
So it should be a great game. You know,
4:34
when your rocket friends bring them by too, we
4:36
can have some trash talk. It'll be fun. You
4:38
know, we'll, oh, yeah. So
4:41
just really excited about it. We're going to, we're going
4:43
to promote it, provide more details as we get closer
4:45
again, but it is April 5th. Miami
4:47
heat at Houston will be at the Torus
4:49
and coconut Grove, but all right. Let's
4:52
get to the game from tonight. The heat beat the Cavs 121 to 84. This
4:55
one was over pretty early on,
4:57
David. It was kind of over. It
5:00
felt like it was over by halftime, but you can never
5:02
be too careful in today's NBA, but then by midway to
5:04
the third quarter, the heat went up by 40 points. And
5:07
at that point, yeah, we knew it was over. The Cavs
5:09
did not look like they wanted to be there. Um,
5:12
that was maybe my biggest takeaway of why
5:14
this was such a dominant
5:17
one-sided w game, but also
5:19
credit to Jimmy Butler and Bam out of
5:21
bio for setting the tone early on, uh,
5:23
Jimmy was playing with pace. He
5:25
goes out to take his first quarter rest.
5:27
Bam just takes the baton right from where
5:29
Jimmy left off and he's, he's getting to
5:31
the basket, he's playing great defensively, doing all
5:33
the Bam things. Um, and we get
5:36
a nice, boring, drama
5:38
free win for what feels like the first time
5:40
this season, uh, what was your takeaway? Do it
5:42
with my hands. Yeah. It was, uh, I think
5:44
that was good. That sums it up
5:46
pretty well because you know, they welcomed Evan Mobley back
5:48
into the rotation and I, he had missed a lot
5:50
of time due to injury and he
5:53
comes back into the game and, and he just,
5:55
they looked off like they didn't know how to
5:57
run their usual pick and roll. He
5:59
didn't, he seemed like a little bit out of place. He
6:01
wasn't quite the effective player
6:03
that he has been before he went
6:05
down with injury and Miami to your
6:07
point, just capitalize on everything. Well, you
6:09
know, Cleveland look a step slow. Miami
6:11
look a steps quicker than normal, even
6:13
certainly than the way they played against
6:16
the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday, but they just
6:18
took advantage of a really
6:20
good Cavs team who's third in the Eastern
6:22
conference and Miami just never stopped and never
6:24
let go when the Cavs try to cut
6:26
it within single digits or
6:28
anything like that. He responded again,
6:31
as you said, it was a blowout by the
6:33
end of the second quarter. And they just doubled
6:35
up on that. Great shooting, great all around team
6:38
play, everybody sharing the ball. It was a very
6:40
fun and free environment at the can say
6:42
a center. Everybody was really excited about it. And you can
6:44
see these heat players like even they
6:46
were not quite sure what to do with themselves
6:48
because they rarely are in these kinds of situations,
6:50
but yeah, the two blowout of some of the
6:52
rare blowouts that they have this season, two of
6:54
them have been against the Cavaliers. So I think
6:57
that's worth noting as well. It
6:59
is. And I do want to touch on that here in a
7:01
second, but you mentioned like they didn't even the heat didn't really
7:03
know what to do with this blowout. You could tell them like
7:05
they're like, all right, guys, we're up by 40 points now, but
7:08
like foot on the gas, whatever you do the rope.
7:10
Eric Spolstar calls a timeout when the Cavs like cut
7:12
into the lead and turn it into like a 32
7:14
point game instead of a 40 point game. It's both
7:16
like, all right, enough of that. I'm going to pretend
7:18
to coach for a little bit like guys like, you
7:20
know, keep playing more basketball, whatever he said to the
7:22
guys in the middle. But
7:25
it's always pretty funny to kind of watch them. And
7:27
then, of course, Jimmy basically sits out the whole fourth
7:29
quarter. Bam doesn't play a whole lot down the stretch.
7:31
And so those guys get a
7:33
well deserved break at the end of this game. Jimmy
7:36
played 24 and a half minutes. Bam played just under
7:38
28 minutes total. Like I
7:40
said, very well deserved because they brought it, you
7:42
know, and we talk about that all the time. It's,
7:44
you know, no Duncan Robinson, no Tyler, you
7:46
know, Kevin Love, just no Jaime Aca's junior,
7:48
just a ton of guys missing. And
7:51
the easiest way to make up for
7:53
the guys missing are not the guys at the end of
7:55
the bench stepping up. It's for the Stars to play even
7:57
better because that's what they're capable of doing. And
8:00
I love the way that Jimmy Butler came out in
8:02
this game. He was playing with pace in semi-trans... Like,
8:04
that's when you know, like, there's certain, like, things that
8:06
Jimmy Butler does where you're like, oh, okay, he's sort
8:08
of bringing it tonight. And when he,
8:10
instead of just walking the ball up and letting basically everybody
8:12
catch up to him, and then he can just sort of
8:15
ISO or post up and do the kind of stuff that
8:17
he's comfortable doing, when he kind of pushes
8:19
the pace a little bit, hits that quick first step
8:21
in semi-transition, doesn't wait for the defense to catch up,
8:23
doesn't wait for his own teammates to catch up, he's
8:25
like, you know what, I got Darius Garland in front of me, I'm
8:27
just gonna take him off the dribble. You know,
8:29
and he should do that every night, quite frankly, but
8:31
he doesn't. But when he does do it, he's
8:34
able to set the tone. And that's what
8:36
happened in this one. And so Miami gets out to
8:38
an early lead, and it just
8:40
felt like Cleveland was like, well, we
8:42
don't have it tonight after about like eight minutes. They were
8:44
just like, yeah, it's just not our night, I guess, you
8:46
know, and they just played Tristan Thompson for the entire second
8:48
half. And that was it. And it was... And so,
8:50
I don't know, again, Cleveland looked like
8:53
they'd rather be next door at Ultra than playing this
8:55
basketball game tonight. I don't know what was
8:57
going on with them. But they're at three and
8:59
seven in their last 10. They're in a slump, probably
9:01
in the worst time of the year for them. Like
9:04
you mentioned, they're having a hard time working guys back down to
9:06
Mitchell, obviously missing for them is a big deal. We don't really
9:08
know when he's gonna come back for them. But
9:11
Miami did the thing they had to do.
9:13
They stepped on their throats, they didn't let them come back
9:15
in this game, and it was a much-needed win. You mentioned
9:17
the fact that they've now blown out Cleveland twice this year.
9:20
This is a bigger reason to me, David, to
9:22
get out of the playing tournament. Because if you can
9:24
get a date with the Cavaliers in the first round,
9:27
right, we already know the problems of playing like Boston and
9:29
Milwaukee. Those are the two best teams in the Eastern Conference
9:31
right now. But if you can get out of
9:34
the first round... If you can get out of the play-in and face
9:36
Cleveland in the first round, I mean,
9:38
how many people would actually be picking the
9:40
Cavs based on where these teams are at
9:42
at this stage of the season, right? Like that, I feel
9:44
like most people would be picking the Heat. That's not really
9:46
the point. I just say like, if you're the Heat, more
9:48
motivation to get out of the playing tournament, knowing that this
9:51
Cavs team that you've had success against could be on
9:53
the other side of it. I
10:00
understand. I just, I'm
10:02
a little wary of saying, bring on
10:05
the Cavaliers because this was really a,
10:07
a poor version of that Cavaliers
10:10
team. And of course there's no guarantee and
10:12
I guess you could make that same argument
10:14
about Miami. But I think it
10:16
also, moreover, I think it just shows that
10:18
when Miami plays their style of play the
10:21
way they did tonight, this is a team
10:23
that's capable of beating anybody rather than just looking
10:25
forward to any opponent. Like I, any one particular
10:27
opponent. And I think the Heat would say the
10:30
same thing. This is the best version of themselves.
10:32
It shows a version of them that is capable
10:34
of contending, that is capable of beating the Boston
10:36
Celtics or the Milwaukee Bucks or any of the
10:38
top teams in the Eastern Conference. And it's more
10:41
about Miami, in my opinion, about
10:43
getting them to play this style
10:45
of basketball, of Jimmy Butler playing
10:47
with pace, of BAM being aggressive, of
10:49
everybody stepping up in their own way of
10:51
getting contributions from role players rather than saying,
10:54
you know what, we can do this against Cleveland
10:56
and maybe only against Cleveland. Yeah.
11:00
And it's also worth noting too, that this was the first
11:02
game that the Heat have played the Cavs in and had
11:04
BAM out of bio. This was BAM's first time playing the
11:06
Cavs all year. So, no, you're right about
11:08
that. I do think that there is something to
11:10
be said though of, it's very
11:12
clear that it's Boston and Milwaukee at the
11:15
top. And then after that, like
11:17
the drop off between those teams in
11:19
Cleveland is pretty substantial. I
11:21
would even say like, if
11:24
you're asking me who the better team is right now, I think the Knicks are a better
11:26
team than the Cavs despite the record. I think the
11:28
Orlando Magic are better than the Cavs despite
11:30
the record. And yeah, the injuries
11:32
are a big deal, but they're a team very similar to the
11:34
Heat that have just been sort of dealing with injuries all season
11:36
long. And so if you can get them in the first
11:39
round while some of those injuries are still happening or fresh, then,
11:41
you know, it bodes well. And also
11:43
they're just not as good as Milwaukee
11:46
or Boston, even when they are healthy. So there's that
11:48
too. But let's talk more about

14:18
Well David, it's another Miami Heat win which means
14:21
it's time for the tastiest segment of Locked On
14:23
Heat. It's time to get in the kitchen and
14:25
whip up some credit cookies. Who is
14:28
getting credit cookies for tonight's performance? You
14:31
know, it almost puts us in a really
14:33
tough place because so many players had
14:35
contributions across the board. This isn't like a
14:37
typical clutch win for Miami where somebody kind
14:39
of steps up or you get a couple
14:41
of guys stepping up. There were some top
14:43
performances but you got such a number
14:46
of players in this blowout win
14:48
putting up points, putting up statistics, getting
14:50
good contributions. But I think there were
14:52
four players in particular who really
14:55
stood out in tonight's game. You mentioned before,
14:57
it starts with Jimmy Butler, the Charlotte serves
14:59
a drink, he had a really good game,
15:01
impactful at his limited playing time. Bam and
15:04
Abbio looking very aggressive. I take three cookies
15:06
apiece for them. And then two
15:08
for Heywood Highsmith who was fantastic off
15:10
the bench, brought defense, brought energy, he
15:13
was cutting off ball and he was
15:15
perfect from three point range. I think
15:17
that deserves two cookies and also one
15:20
last credit cookie for Nikola Jovic. He
15:22
looked really, actually I'm sorry, my math is
15:24
off. Two cookies for Nikola Jovic. So two
15:26
for Nikola, two for Heywood and three apiece
15:28
for Jimmy and Bam. Let's
15:31
start with Nikola Jovic there because we already talked about Jimmy
15:33
and Bam like you said. So again,
15:36
that third quarter was kind of interesting because it felt
15:38
like the Miami Heat were okay, what do we do?
15:40
We're up really big. We don't want to blow this.
15:42
This would be an absolute disaster. We've lost three straight
15:44
at home. We don't want it to happen again. This
15:46
would be the worst loss of the season if we
15:48
somehow find a way to blow this. We have found
15:50
ways to blow games like this before this year or
15:52
at least blow these leads and then kind of eke
15:54
out with a win. Like what do we
15:56
do? And even though they
15:59
were up as much as the... they were up after
16:01
halftime, it still felt like, okay, second half,
16:04
the whole other half basketball, who's going
16:06
to provide the spark? Jimmy had the spark, Bana, the
16:08
spark in the first half. Is it going to be
16:10
one of those guys? No. Well, not
16:12
really. They were a little bit, but it was also Nico
16:14
Leovic who hit back to back threes in
16:17
the third quarter, um, had a
16:19
great, uh, defensive possession on Marcus
16:21
Morris, who was doing exactly
16:24
what you thought Marcus Morris would do with
16:26
his team down 30. I'm going
16:28
to will us back into this game by going like four
16:30
for 18 from, from the
16:32
field or something like Marcus. Where's like, give
16:35
me the Cape. I got us guys. I'm
16:37
going to bring us back. And it didn't
16:39
work, but he tried. He started jab stepping
16:41
against Nico from like 20 feet out. Nico
16:43
just stood in front of him, had his hands
16:45
out, good defensive posture and didn't
16:48
bite for any of the jabs. Didn't bite for any of
16:50
the pump dakes. Just kept his position
16:52
stayed between his man in the basket forced
16:54
an air ball for Marcus Morris. So, uh, I,
16:57
I loved everything that we saw from Nico those
16:59
back to back threes, the defensive stop, all sort
17:01
of in that early part of the third quarter.
17:03
I thought was the spark Miami needed to just
17:05
basically keep the thing going. Who
17:07
would have thought that at this point of season with
17:10
Miami being so inconsistent and up and down and dealing
17:12
with injuries and everything else. I got it considering where
17:14
he was at the start of the season that
17:16
we'd be talking about in the cola Yobich
17:18
in terms of his defensive presence. And yet
17:20
it's very, very real. If there's any takeaway
17:22
from this season, I think it's the fact
17:25
that Nicole Yobich has established himself as a
17:27
legitimate starter. And I think I'm
17:29
starting to lean to the idea that he will
17:31
be the starter moving into the playoffs. I know
17:33
Spo always has some odd design and maybe he'll
17:35
do a little tinker. Maybe he'll put in Caleb,
17:38
who knows? But I think the cola has shown
17:40
that he is a solid
17:43
starter level player in the NBA, which is
17:45
a huge leap from where he was. Like
17:47
we had high expectations, but those
17:49
were dashed pretty quickly. When despite whatever he
17:51
had shown during the feeble world cup over
17:53
the off season, it didn't necessarily translate or
17:55
carry over, particularly on defensive end and in
17:58
the rebounding category, which were the things. that
18:00
he needed to improve on the most. And I think he
18:02
would go so far as to tell you that that exactly
18:04
was the case. He's worked on it. He told us in
18:06
our recent interview, he's put on the way, he's put on
18:08
the muscle, he's done the work and you can see it.
18:11
Like in the first quarter, second quarter,
18:13
he had some really good defensive possessions
18:15
where he was switching on one possession
18:17
particularly. He took on Coro, he took
18:19
on Darius Garland, moved his feet well.
18:21
Like I'm not, he's definitely not a
18:23
defensive stopper or anything like that, but
18:25
he cannot be exploited as easily as
18:27
he had been earlier in his career.
18:29
And I think it shows real growth from
18:32
him. So that is really promising.
18:34
And if you could just continue to tie
18:36
that together with the potential that he has
18:38
offensively, the three point shot, pushing the pace,
18:40
the rebounding which has significantly improved as well.
18:42
I think he could be a really high
18:44
level player. Not the poke holes
18:46
in your argument because I agree with everything that you
18:49
said, but he did have zero rebounds today. I
18:52
didn't have a rebound today. But I
18:55
do agree with you. And the three point shooting
18:57
is so interesting with him too. He's shooting over
18:59
40% from three, kind of quietly. I don't, when
19:01
you talk about like today's NBA, if
19:03
you can have a guy who is 6'10", who
19:06
can push the pace and make
19:08
threes at a 40% clip or
19:11
better, that is a luxury to have.
19:13
I mean, I think every team
19:15
is basically looking for a guy like that, right? And
19:18
defensively he is getting better. You're right. We
19:20
don't have to go full blown like, don't
19:23
try Nico, don't try him. It's like, you
19:25
can try him. It'll probably be fine. But
19:28
he's a good defense. He's not the weak point
19:31
that he was. And obviously his size
19:33
is really helpful, right? The length and stuff. So
19:35
even when he does get beat, he's able to
19:37
catch up in a way that smaller guys, like
19:40
even like a Tyler Hero, because he's a guard,
19:42
can't, right? And so I think that's obviously helpful.
19:46
The other part with making threes tonight
19:49
is Cleveland, I guess having seen
19:51
the film from that
19:53
Pelicans loss, that bad heat performance where they, it
19:55
looked like it was the first time they ever
19:57
saw a 3-2 zone. And
20:00
and and so they just couldn't score and
20:03
they just kept selling for threes and they kept missing them
20:05
and that was the opposite Tonight right
20:07
like they got the threes Against
20:09
Cleveland zone Cleveland brought the zone out I
20:11
guess assuming that they could get a similar success to what
20:13
the Pelicans had the other night and Nikko
20:15
and a bunch of those other guys started hitting their threes
20:18
in a way that they didn't against New Orleans and you
20:20
know Sometimes the the the analysis is that easy. Did you
20:22
make threes or did you not make the threes and
20:24
tonight? They made the reason it was a big part of that. Um,
20:27
the other guy you mentioned was Heywood Highsmith I do
20:29
think it's at least worth Talking
20:32
about him a little bit more here. I just it's
20:35
weird. I don't know where he fits in when this Rotation
20:38
is healthy. I still like even tonight 18
20:41
points on seven of ten shooting four for
20:43
four from three point range had had a
20:46
steal in this game Did pick
20:48
up five five? Oh, no, that wasn't him. That was Thomas
20:50
Bryant who had five fouls Sorry reading the box score wrong,
20:52
but I thought he's really good defensively and
20:54
when he's hitting those threes He becomes
20:56
a legit two-way factor. It's just the three-point
20:58
shot for him is so Streaky
21:01
that he doesn't really
21:03
get a chance to kind of see it through
21:05
right? He basically it's like, okay if there's
21:08
a bunch of guys that I know you and the rotation injured
21:10
you're just gonna go out there and get to do all these
21:12
things and if we have a healthy rotation Sorry,
21:15
we just don't we don't know if your threes are gonna go in
21:17
tonight Cuz you're just not gonna see the floor but credit to him
21:19
for making the most of the opportunity Especially these last couple nights when
21:21
they he'd have been really banged up Yeah,
21:23
that first three pointer that he hit You know
21:25
as we've said so often like it kind of
21:27
sets the tone for him like mentally and in
21:30
terms of his confidence It was when they had
21:32
first seen that zone and it was a possession
21:34
where they just couldn't seem to generate any movement
21:36
whatsoever They kept moving the ball to no avail.
21:38
They couldn't just penetrate the zone They didn't know
21:40
what to do with it shot clock
21:42
expiring winds up in Haywood's hands and you're going Okay Well,
21:45
you know that who knows what's gonna happen with this
21:47
it could be an air ball Instead
21:49
he drills it and then from that point you can
21:51
see his confidence rising I really liked his off ball
21:53
movement in addition to the fourth three-pointer So to hit
21:55
him with four four, but he also he was constantly
21:57
under the basket just like the forgotten man out there
21:59
And he's got that little timing with a hook shot
22:01
there and kind of like a push shot where he's
22:03
like along the baseline And either
22:06
Jimmy or Bambu whoever has the ball at the
22:08
top Could see him as he's kind of trailing
22:10
along the baseline and nobody really keeps up with
22:12
him Nobody really tracks him and he gets lost
22:14
in the shuffle there And he winds up having
22:16
an open look over at the basket try finishing
22:18
with a dunk that unfortunately caroms off But you
22:20
know, it was a really good night for him
22:23
and you know, hey would He's always
22:25
gonna bring it with a defensive effort despite his
22:27
size limitations and everything else like that So you
22:29
just hope that the offense is consistent enough where
22:31
he's not gonna be a negative out there You
22:34
know because of his difference is always gonna be at
22:36
a high level But if he's not scoring if he's
22:38
turning the ball over if he looks kind of like
22:40
lacking confidence Then it's not there's no point really in
22:43
having him out on the floor But tonight was the
22:45
best version of hey would and you
22:47
hope that you can see those kind of
22:49
contributions at least I know regularly during the
22:51
playoffs Absolutely. Um, and
22:53
one of the guys that was hurt in
22:55
front of him Duncan Robinson tonight We got
22:57
an update on his situation Doesn't
23:00
sound awesome. David. We're gonna talk about that next

year Today's

24:30
in week 21 of the fantasy season and for
24:32
nearly everybody, that's gonna mean it's
24:34
the fantasy playoffs. It might be your final
24:36
matchup, your second round, the beginning of your
24:38
playoffs. But what you need to pay attention
24:41
to at this point in the season is
24:43
the NBA schedule. You need to be getting as
24:45
many games in as possible. You need to be
24:47
looking at the fringe guys on your roster and
24:49
seeing, are they hurt? Are they playing three games?
24:52
Have they got a three day stretch where they
24:54
don't play because of the schedule? Well, you move
24:56
on. Getting four games in,
24:58
five games in through that one roster
25:00
spot, through players who are worse than
25:02
the original player is a big benefit
25:04
in the fantasy playoffs. Get bulk games
25:06
in, be brutal with your cuts. It's
25:09
no, there's no tomorrow in the playoffs.
25:11
You've gotta pay attention to maximizing games
25:13
played, moving on from players who
25:15
are out or injured or in doubt or in form
25:17
slumps. Work for the now,
25:19
not for the future. Good luck and I
25:21
hope you win your fantasy championship. Thanks
25:28

25:41
on Instagram. Before we get to these
25:43
questions, Duncan Robinson missed the last two
25:45
games with what the team is calling
25:48
left facet syndrome. I
25:51
Googled it, David. Yeah.
25:53
Doesn't it sound great? Um, so,
25:57
you know, he, he got, he saw the specialist,
26:00
some scans done, all these things, and this is what
26:02
they came up with. And essentially what
26:04
it boils down to is it's supposed
26:06
to be very painful throughout
26:08
the lower body. It could be impacting his legs and
26:11
all these things, which obviously for a basketball player and a
26:13
shooter is problematic. I
26:17
don't... it's a pain management thing, you
26:19
know. I started looking up like, you know, treatments
26:22
and stuff. It's just a lot of like those
26:24
big steroid shots and things like that, and the
26:26
PC, the PRP shots and those kinds
26:28
of things. Similar to what Tyler Hero is
26:30
dealing with, but now Miami between Hero and
26:32
Duncan Robinson are down there
26:34
two best shooters, and you
26:37
know, there's games like this where it doesn't matter a whole
26:39
lot, then there's games like the one against the Pelicans where
26:41
it matters a whole lot, right? And I think
26:43
I'll go out on a limb and say it's probably gonna matter
26:45
a whole lot more often than not. So
26:48
doesn't sound great for either of Miami's
26:51
sharp shooters, scores, shooting guards,
26:53
but this is not what you wanted to see from
26:55
Duncan Robinson. He had to leave that one game early, couldn't
26:57
come back in the second half, and he's missed the last
26:59
two because of this, and we don't know. There's still no
27:01
timetable for his return. Yeah,
27:04
the good thing is that Miami catches a
27:06
slight break in terms of their schedule. They have
27:08
two games at home. They take on the
27:10
Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, and then they don't
27:13
play again until Friday. So that's kind of
27:15
a nice space there of only two games and
27:17
five nights while he's rehabbing and getting treatment in
27:20
the home. So hopefully he
27:22
can bounce back from that. Like, at
27:25
this point, there's no real validity to
27:27
just kind of dissecting it or anything like that. We
27:29
don't know what's going to happen with him. I don't
27:31
think he knows what's going to happen. He just continues
27:33
to have to, he has to continue to fight through
27:35
it or, you know, it might just be to the
27:37
point where it takes him out. And as far
27:39
as the heat are concerned, well, we've just
27:41
been through this so many times before and as cliche
27:43
as it sounds, and I know that you hate the
27:45
expression, but you know, it really is next man up.
27:47
I don't know who's gonna fight. I
27:50
don't know who can step up for what Duncan has
27:52
provided this. They've been asking Patty Mills to do it
27:54
and that's been very hit or miss. And
27:56
that's putting it nice. It has not worked out. So
27:58
L'onrite has not stepped up. You need
28:00
to get back one of Duncan
28:03
or Tyler and look of course that will also
28:05
benefit by the addition of Kevin Love once he
28:07
returns as well because he's another great three-point spacer
28:09
when those shots are hitting so, you
28:11
know It's just you're gonna have to
28:13
find a way of beating a punch. I don't know that Miami
28:17
Can't beat opponents Consistently in
28:19
a four-game series without
28:21
either Tyler or Duncan on the floor and I
28:23
know that they can't There's
28:25
no way. I mean Patty
28:27
Mills the long rightly that's not getting it done Like Cole
28:30
Switer is a nice three-point shooter and
28:32
he could fill in and eat up some minutes here in
28:34
the regular season But two-way guys aren't even allowed to play
28:37
in playoff games So that's not even really an option is
28:40
and it's not a great option to begin with because the guys barely
28:42
played this season so I Their
28:45
seasons over if they don't have one of these guys
28:47
back now I don't mean to be too dramatic, but
28:50
I think that's just being realistic like you need one
28:52
of our careers And so we don't
28:54
know but we can't get lucky guys get a win
28:56
like Yeah, you might have like an offensive
28:58
explosion like the way you did tonight But you
29:00
know, that's that's not something
29:02
you want to rely on consistently You want to have them
29:04
out there because of the threat that they pose because of
29:07
their ability to space the floor, etc I
29:09
mean having two of those three would be great
29:11
having at least You know either
29:13
Tyler and Kevin Love we were dunking into Kevin Love
29:16
like you need to have him out in the floor
29:18
You just wish him all the best because he was having such a
29:21
great season. You don't want to show any kind of rust. I Don't
29:24
know, you know if it's just a pain management and
29:26
a pain tolerance again You don't want to put it,
29:28
you know his integrity into question or anything like that
29:30
obviously But you hope that maybe he can
29:32
find his way back sooner rather than later and and
29:35
hopefully he just continues to get to work In
29:37
order to be able to maintain it and adjust and
29:39
hopefully doesn't creep up It's just the suddenness of what
29:41
really threw me off because what the game before was
29:43
one of the best games of his career Where he
29:46
had like 30 points and it was really really Incredible
29:48
with his play making that balance of scoring and everything
29:50
else like that and the next game is that and
29:53
And well, maybe there was one game in between there where
29:55
he had left in the first no But it's more than
29:57
just pain management, too. It is like it basically the
30:00
reason why you have to get the scans done and again,
30:03
I did like a Google search on this. So
30:05
this is my understanding. I'm not a medical professional.
30:09
But it's you know, the tightness and the uncomfortableness,
30:11
it mimics a lot of other sort of back
30:13
injuries too. And so that's that's what
30:15
this basically comes down to. So if this guy's
30:17
tight from like his lower back down to his
30:19
knees, he ain't gonna play well. You
30:22
know, so it's right. So they
30:25
get the treatment. Hopefully, he's gonna come back again, don't not
30:27
trying to be dramatic until he's gonna be out for the
30:29
season. But it's just sort of those one of those things
30:31
where you don't know how long is gonna be out. You
30:34
just get the treatment and just wait until your body responds
30:36
the way that you hope it responds. But let's
30:38
move on to some questions. This one comes from EJ
30:40
Bruxy. Is this the most confusing team in history? David,
30:43
what do you think? No, no,
30:45
no, no, no, it's more. 2016
30:47
for 2016 by far the 41. Yeah,
30:51
I mean, nothing nothing beats 10
30:53
and 31 and 31 and 10 like that. I
30:58
mean, it was crazy. It
31:00
was the biggest swing. I don't I
31:02
feel like I pretty much understand that they sucked for
31:04
the beginning of the season and then they were good
31:06
for the second half of the season. Like I pretty
31:09
much got that figured out. Like it's so easy. It's
31:11
like, how do you go from being one of the
31:13
lottery bound team to being elite at beating like the
31:15
gold warriors in their peak, you know, the guys
31:17
who were the only one waiting. Yeah, that's two
31:20
words. We're in basketball,
31:22
baby. Real hoopers. No.
31:27
That might be you know, it'd be fun as if
31:29
we did like a draft of most confusing heat teams.
31:32
We could do that on another show where we could just like draft
31:34
like most whatever heat teams. It's
31:38
the last four seasons and then in 2016, I think
31:40
right at the top or maybe in the 2017. I
31:44
would put. Oh, that was a good one. Yeah.
31:48
Because you didn't really know what was going on. That was more like
31:50
some behind the scenes stuff, too. But I
31:52
would say this year's team is I don't know. It
31:55
feels like it's it's confusing, but also you
31:57
look at the injuries in the 33 different lineups.
32:00
And you're like, yeah, this is pretty easily explainable. I just think
32:02
it's confusing when we're in it day to day and trying to
32:04
figure out, okay, you could beat New Orleans and you could beat,
32:06
but then you lose against New Orleans and then
32:08
you beat Cleveland. That part is confusing, but
32:10
like bigger picture zoom out. It's like,
32:13
Oh, like all the good players on the team were
32:15
hurt for most of the year. Yeah. No wonder that
32:17
they struggled a little bit. Um, Brian
32:19
writes in does the huge disparity between the last two games
32:22
say more about the heat or the teams that they were
32:24
playing sort of related to the last question, got
32:26
it, got theme here going. What do you think? I,
32:29
I kind of tend to think it was more reflective
32:31
of the opponent rather than anything else, like the
32:34
pelicans played a really good game plan. They had
32:36
been playing well of late. And
32:38
I think they were motivated by the comments
32:40
from Jimmy Butler, the ejection, the kind of
32:42
the heated, the heated nature of the previous
32:44
matchup and everything else like that. So I
32:47
think they were looking at Friday's matchup and
32:49
going, okay. All right. You, you, you
32:51
punked us at home. Now we're going to go do
32:53
the same with you. So they were clearly motivated and
32:56
they punched Miami in the face and then they,
32:58
there was no looking back from that point forward
33:00
conversely, Cleveland and a bad stretch going through their
33:02
injuries and everything else like that. And I know
33:04
that's not necessarily an excuse, but they kind of
33:06
rolled over, uh, a little
33:09
bit more quickly and unexpectedly than you might've
33:11
expected. And, and so, uh, Miami
33:13
took advantage of that, which is what they're supposed to
33:15
do. So I, again, I think it's more, I would
33:17
say, if you're looking at whether or not this is
33:20
just reflective of who Miami is rather than the opponents,
33:22
I would say it's probably 80, 20, the opponents just
33:24
having a very different mindset between the two. Yeah.
33:27
I don't think they hear you're going to go out and start blowing out
33:29
the top three seeds by 40 points every
33:31
night. Yeah. So, uh, I'm
33:33
with you. I think you nailed it. Uh, the
33:35
calves, I just, again, I've never seen a team
33:38
not want to play basketball more during
33:40
an NBA season than that calves team tonight. They just
33:42
did not care and, uh, credit to Miami for doing
33:44
what they had to do. Uh, but
33:46
the pelicans came in, like you said, a strong team. They took
33:48
care of business and, uh, and Cleveland
33:50
did basically whatever the opposite of that is. Um,
33:53
but I guess they're doing retro right now. Yeah.
33:56
Calf fans are like in shambles after this
33:58
huge blowout. It should be. That was embarrassing. If
34:00
I was the Caps fan, I would be absolutely embarrassed.
34:03
This is more embarrassing than sending out
34:05
a hit note on LeBron James
34:07
in Comic Sans. This
34:10
is the most embarrassing thing. You know what
34:12
they should do? They should find a trade
34:14
partner for Donovan Mitchell. I don't know what
34:17
that team might be. I
34:19
don't know. I think they should just even forfeit
34:22
the playoffs, trade Donovan now, or get it
34:24
to season two. Do
34:27
you think they take Heywood Highsmith for Donovan Mitchell? I
34:30
don't know. They scored more points than Donovan. They throw it first.
34:32
I mean, Heywood's defense though. You'd be missing his defense. I don't
34:34
know. I don't really know where my aim is. They get a
34:37
good two-way player. He's
34:39
younger. I don't know. They've got to throw in
34:41
some big things. Better contracts. They might have to
34:43
throw in some big things. Draft collateral to go
34:45
with Donovan Mitchell. We're taking on
34:47
that Jamaican contract. You're
34:49
doing them a favor, really. Thanks for making Lockdine
