About the mission depicted in Black Hawk

0:48

these, but did you know that the Us

Air Force Special Warfare played a pivotal role

0:53

in all of them? These. Urban

1:25

Mlb even review. Sponsored

1:31

1:35

Twenty Twenty Four Mlb season is upon

1:37

us. A lot done as the answers

1:39

to the biggest questions for the season.

1:41

Over this five episode series you'll hear

1:43

from every local host we have, covering

1:45

every Mlb team in a way only

1:47

lot on can provide. I'm your host

1:49

to nature but teased and in this

1:52

episode will look at the ale and

1:54

in all candidates for Mvp. Starting with

1:56

the American League, who from each division

1:58

can step into this heated race. Start

2:00

with the Elite where the top two candidates

2:02

according to band or both come from the

2:04

New York Yankees with Aaron Judge and one

2:07

soto. And we are gone around

2:09

the division with brain a walk go from

2:11

lot on Blue Jays got a new come

2:13

from lot on Orioles seven life of lot

2:15

on raid gabby hurlbut from lot on Red

2:18

sox and say things that zulia it from

2:20

a lot on yankees so guys with i

2:22

add a little fun with the fact that

2:24

so he of honey is that apart and

2:27

this discuss it and the fact that he

2:29

that a part of the american league anymore

2:31

maybe is a good thing because maybe that

2:33

breaks the Mvp read a little bit more

2:36

open for the American League This. Upcoming

2:38

season. So connor, when you look

2:40

across. Not. Just the American League,

2:42

but even if you want to drill

2:44

down into the division or even in

2:46

to the Orioles team especially because of

2:48

the conversation about where this oil theme

2:51

is going this fall. Who.

2:53

Would you say would be a

2:55

likely mvp candidate coming out this.

2:57

For the season. Kind.

2:59

Of lot of candidates in the division arms

3:01

Space you probably talk about at least two

3:04

of I'm I think you know. Braden got

3:06

at least one Gary go at least one.

3:09

That's not really the race for day but you

3:11

know they were more the some of their parts

3:13

but yeah I was a for the world they

3:16

probably have to. I mean the big what is

3:18

gonna henderson coming off of the ale and Bp

3:20

award. In. Two thousand twenty three and

3:22

yet remember he was terrible for the first two

3:24

months of the year and he still one the

3:26

rookie the year last season and so if he

3:29

can put together a full one sixty two this

3:31

is the guy who had a six were season

3:33

could win the mvp and honestly the other guys

3:35

actually rochman if he stays healthy, snack or to

3:37

pull up a gaudy numbers but the importance he

3:39

has. To. This team is unbelievable

3:42

but I think the world are. Actually despite

3:44

they have a lot of talent, they're a

3:46

little closer to the reason that they are

3:48

much more about the some of their parts

3:50

than kind of be star players at the

3:53

top of that roster. Yeah. Yeah.

3:55

And cc, what about with the Yankees?

3:57

Obviously there's that guy is ethical with.

4:00

That little with I got Aaron Judge

4:02

but. You never know if that guy could

4:04

be wants total. Are. Those two

4:06

bible Mvp candidate coming out of Yankees

4:08

can already see it as someone else

4:10

across the Elites. Are he? because the

4:12

American League has been. Maybe that top.

4:15

Player: For the and if you a. No.

4:18

No offense to everyone else. But

4:21

Aaron Judge. You know, Aaron

4:23

Judge the year before with the sixty two home runs

4:25

and then in twenty twenty three he was on pace

4:27

to do the same thing that he broke his tell.

4:29

When it came back from breaking his tell, any started

4:32

hitting home runs again as if he didn't miss any

4:34

time. So if he hadn't missed the two months, he

4:36

probably could have won the Mvp back to back because

4:38

it was the kind of season he was having. I

4:41

almost feel like it might be a detriment

4:43

in a way to have thought of their

4:45

to because they might cancel each other out

4:47

and in Mvp book M M V P

4:49

Boats if you know the voters are like

4:51

oh well we can't to. Both so what

4:54

do we do? but that would be wouldn't

4:56

be something if Sarah came over here and

4:58

got the Mvp. Here

5:00

and that's a great call that you

5:02

may stacey because they were often time

5:04

here with the Braves were we felt

5:06

the same thing. I mean obviously at

5:08

some point radically new Jr is absolutely

5:10

ran away with it. But there were

5:12

other candidates and there were other individuals

5:14

from this Breeze organization who actually did

5:16

make that part six in Mvp voting.

5:18

So yeah you make a great point.

5:20

Sometimes it is a at cancellation situation

5:22

but I guess you the other side

5:24

of that point is. That. One

5:27

of those embarrassment of riches situations that

5:29

most with love the have right? So

5:31

Seven outgoing it's a you because obviously

5:33

and and I think everybody makes the

5:36

great point just about how the rays

5:38

approach things more of like being the

5:40

some rather than the individual parts but

5:43

you see maybe a dark horse from

5:45

this raise organization who could come. Into

5:47

the Mvp conversation this upcoming season.

5:50

Yeah. It's really tough without. Wonder

5:52

Frog Go in the role or is

5:55

in the fold that we think I'm

5:57

I. I don't really see of a

5:59

true. The candidate that can. Fight.

6:02

For that M V P role. maybe if

6:04

if ya de de as has another career

6:06

role or another career year but I think

6:08

that.the Mp be probably goes through Baltimore New

6:10

York this year with some of the names

6:12

that were mentioned. As

6:16

and think it is that connor, you

6:18

look at where or brain. Rather we

6:20

look at where this division is. A

6:23

and the competition is there but sometimes when

6:25

the it's a kind of cream rises to

6:27

the top situation it does depend on hey

6:29

do we have that guy or do we

6:31

have. A team of color.

6:33

Those guys. You feel like they're that

6:35

that guy with the Blue Jays. Who

6:38

could maybe jump into this conversation? Yeah,

6:41

of course I don't think that's as much of

6:43

our for for our problem. When you look at

6:45

Vladimir Guerrero Junior in the season that he's gonna

6:47

have bouncing back, you could even throw overshadowed this

6:49

conversation as well. But I think at the end

6:52

of the day Vlad Guerrero Jr is going to

6:54

come back bigger and better than maybe not ever

6:56

but bigger and better this year. But overall as

6:58

you look out through the atari alleys Aaron Judge

7:00

is the clear front. more a runner so was

7:02

see have to see where it ends up. Yes,

7:06

and it's interesting that you mention that because

7:08

I'll tell you gabby, that that was kind

7:10

of the idea. Again, kind of go back

7:12

to the brains where. You come back out

7:14

that injury. At his ladders anywhere close

7:16

to what he was like violence he said

7:18

politics the read the that the visit him

7:20

for the red for those who are in

7:22

that race but I'll ask you as well

7:24

when you kind of look across. The. Red

7:26

Sox. You look across the elite but

7:28

also across the American League as well.

7:30

What players can you see? or Mvp

7:32

candidate or Dcd dark horses who may

7:34

time to surprise us all. Yeah.

7:37

You know, I definitely think I it was

7:39

mentioned. Some of the take our

7:41

favorites are players that I definitely could see being

7:44

in the conversation if I wouldn't get the Red

7:46

Sox roster specifically there are lots of guys on

7:48

this team is still have to prove themselves and

7:50

have to do a lot more to even begin

7:53

to the in the conversation or one name has

7:55

definitely as the as out and city worth noting

7:57

is Rafael Devers and he he said as. Rb

8:00

I thirty home runs you can last year

8:02

so the had a really good season Army.

8:04

He is. This is is he now. He

8:06

signed a contract extension years of the of

8:09

the Red Sox. Why not. I if

8:11

he has a slightly better numbers than

8:13

he did last year. Than.

8:15

I could be cast I for

8:17

others and opposing pitchers definitely don't

8:19

like the zinc and am I

8:22

so this is absolutely his team

8:24

now and if anybody either Red

8:26

Sox. Current. Roster right now. Deserves.

8:29

To be in the conversation. It absolutely

8:31

is him. The I'm looking at it

8:33

again armies as you know, Aaron

8:35

Judge Warren. So don't be. Competing.

8:37

With each other for I the data were at

8:40

the end of the day sosa be fine quality

8:42

entertainment for the rest of us As as the

8:44

case. I

8:47

can name one pitcher who have like

8:49

pitching to ravi Jericho. Not

8:54

at all levels. A Subsidy Good.

8:56

right? Now about him as a

8:58

very frail hear. Ya ya

9:00

ya recall maybe a favorite. Better if

9:02

you are go up against good. He.

9:05

Is just absolutely massive. Home runs against that

9:07

guy. Is it's crazy said Numbered

9:09

vs. Jericho over the real. Yeah

9:12

if they're coal if is Garrick whole

9:14

only face Rafael Devers he be one

9:16

of the worst pitchers in baseball history.

9:20

Of us Yet every year a

9:22

half exudes. So home. Yeah.

9:24

It sounds like stacey panelists rent free.

9:27

And. Get colds, etc. Yeah, sorry. Of.

9:31

And as always fun to watch especially

9:33

when we're talking about a Yankee living

9:35

rent free and Red Sox ed or

9:37

vice versa. As always a good look.

9:39

So listen at what I love about

9:41

This is the elite as a plethora

9:43

of options and possibility that in that

9:46

Mvp candidate raise the so if you

9:48

guys want to hear more about how

9:50

that race plays out, how it tightens

9:52

up and how my go down the

9:54

stretch make sure that you check on

9:56

the your favorite locked on Mlb so

9:58

your team every single. They do the

10:00

a central the first candidates to show.

10:03

Up on the fans or Ale Nbc obvious

10:05

as the Royal Bobby with to your but

10:07

who else in this isn't a sneak into

10:09

the conversation. Bread. And war

10:11

with Lot on Flynn. Thought that Li

10:14

with Lotta Tigers, Jack Johnson with Lot

10:16

on Royals and just the Ladder with

10:18

Lot on Guardians. Now I know you

10:20

guys were talking earlier about the fact

10:22

that this may not be one of

10:24

the strongest division in major league Baseball,

10:26

but sometimes even out of that, you'll

10:28

find the strongest individual players. So with

10:31

that in mind, Justin. Of

10:33

when you look across. The. American least.

10:35

League. Central or even if you look across

10:37

the American Legal were all who you feel

10:39

it could be that player who might. Be

10:42

an Mvp worthy candidates. When.

10:45

Other show her attorney is finally other you

10:47

american move a lot of going to Finally

10:49

Jose Ramirez is year has emerged did not

10:51

have his best year in twenty twenty three

10:53

we thought the some of the the new

10:55

rules were going about affirmative he was good

10:58

but he was a great idea for news

11:00

and players lancaster of the help him but

11:02

yeah with a tiny out of the out

11:04

of the American league hope for there's more

11:06

chances for a tiny him and everybody else

11:08

central. Generally has an Mvp. Can they

11:10

get Bobby? Weird house to re of our

11:12

Byron Buxton? I'll have of upside for Mvp

11:14

but. The. Over a grieving were helping

11:16

with a tiny gone it is Jose Ramirez

11:18

time and and the American League Mvp race.

11:21

And eight at I can't sell you how

11:23

many times across the American lead we've literally

11:26

said jack Okay by it. So a it's

11:28

been real. thank the lot for your service

11:30

and now it seems like things have gotten

11:32

opened up a little bit in that Mvp

11:35

race for Twenty Twenty Four, where do you

11:37

kind of see the landing as well. You.

11:40

Know it's so tough because I did. A part

11:42

of being an Mvp candidate is your team's gonna

11:44

be pretty good as well by I think a

11:46

the city I'd love to have the homer pick

11:48

and say Bobby Wood Jr. but. They. Got

11:51

to be good. First, if they win you

11:53

know, eighty five games when a division and

11:55

he's really good. And because of that which

11:57

I think would be very parallel mad I

11:59

would correlate to. When two peas in Mvp

12:01

tie the candidates are then you can really take

12:03

that seriously. but you look at some of the

12:05

top contenders. I mean man, Jose. Ramirez

12:07

has been so good for so long. He's killed

12:09

the Royals for so long and that would be

12:11

my boat. I think that the top my head

12:13

I think a sleeper pick is like Royce Louis

12:16

in Minnesota if he stays healthy for a full

12:18

year. We saw what he was able to do

12:20

in the post season. I mean bases juice. The.

12:23

Balls leave in the yard their I think they're such

12:25

a tremendous bad over there. Ah, And

12:27

then he of Detroit's got a handful guys if

12:29

you want to. I thought of pitches. I mean

12:31

sharks. google. that might be one of the best

12:33

arms in baseball. I mean there's everybody's kind of

12:35

got their nice guy but it and gonna come

12:38

down to the end of the day. How many

12:40

games the? when? Are you actually a great team

12:42

with a great Mvp candidate. And

12:44

average or bad seem. Like.

12:48

Yeah. Yeah and brandon that a look

12:50

across and and of continue. especially because that

12:52

makes a great point. Often times of we're

12:54

looking at that Ndp candidate or not, just

12:57

looking at the individual like it or not.

12:59

but we're looking at the record and how

13:01

much of an impact that individuals hat on

13:04

that team or on the stand. and overall

13:06

so with the twins. Basically. Being

13:08

everyone's consensus to be at the top

13:10

of the A Central when the Twenty

13:12

twenty Four season Rap: Do we see

13:14

an Mvp candidate coming out of the

13:16

twins locker room? And do we see

13:19

maybe that dark horse candidate? Whether that's

13:21

a dark horse candidate from the Central

13:23

or whether it's a dark horse candidate

13:25

within the American Legal like that. The.

13:27

Yeah. A for me. Royce Lewis's

13:30

that guy and he's just. He's.

13:33

He does this like ice water. It has

13:35

been celebrations when he hits home runs and

13:37

eighty couldn't be closer to the truth. He

13:39

just he has that he had factor. It's

13:41

not as though he's the new Derek Jeter

13:44

but I think he could be Minnesota's version

13:46

of that. And. It's just

13:48

incredible what he has done. Despite.

13:51

Missing you know, all twenty twenty due

13:53

to. My. Only see to be cancelled

13:55

and and much much time with a couple a

13:58

seals and he does hits the ground running. The

14:00

to do on his thing. So I

14:02

think the twins have three candidates. any

14:04

one of the three between Korea, Buxton

14:06

and Louis. Good, but I'm looking outside

14:08

the twins. I'm going deep deep sleeper.

14:10

I like Riley Green so much from

14:12

Detroit Idols. That's rhetorical says the guy

14:14

there. And they got some other young

14:16

players. but Riley Greens v. And. Do

14:18

it out and do it all. and I

14:20

think that's the guy I'm watching to really

14:22

break out this year is ah, is Green

14:24

in Detroit? I love that.

14:27

The case. He goes right to

14:29

this. why didn't he says hey there's a

14:31

sleeper on your team as you never caught

14:33

in. know what the year is going, how the

14:35

your that a play out so many different

14:37

variables that this early in the see that

14:39

if he will we can't quite a temp

14:41

for. But would you agree. That.

14:43

There's a sleeper on that Tigers team?

14:46

Or are there sleepers. In. Other

14:48

spaces. Around the Central if not

14:50

across the American League. Yeah.

14:52

Why mean I'm glad that that Jack

14:55

and Brandon said school grades thou have

14:57

to just like keep it only looks

14:59

like a homer throughout this whole thing.

15:01

But I'm yeah, I mean I. I

15:03

really do think. right? Agree

15:05

showed it free. While. Free

15:07

and poll yet injured twice last year,

15:10

so in between. Both. Kind

15:12

of major injuries that he suffered. He was

15:14

crossing the ball and I think that he's

15:16

a guy that you know obviously towards us

15:18

in gets all the love because of the

15:20

number one overall pick thing but rather Green

15:22

is like the franchise here and I think

15:24

a lot of people in this fan base

15:27

are starting to realize that. so I think

15:29

that that's. A. Great pic. Even if it's

15:31

not to win Mvp maybe just be like it.

15:33

down ballot you know all I got an A

15:35

plate. The and faith place Mvp voters are like

15:37

that school if it's a pitcher is obviously going

15:39

to be in that conversation that we expect a

15:41

huge your outta him. On. Outside

15:44

of. Ah, outside of

15:46

the tigers which I think those two

15:48

are are very clearly the clubhouse leaders

15:50

there are Bobby Wood junior on already

15:53

talked about by Jack but is is

15:55

obviously going to be in that conversation

15:57

arm. But honestly Nj Ram is my

15:59

favorite. The American League Central as well as

16:01

he probably should be for all of us. but

16:03

I'm I really do think that and I say

16:06

this every year and we all say this every

16:08

year. So this isn't like a hot new take.

16:10

It. Byron Buxton plays over one hundred and

16:12

forty games Like watch how how the thing

16:15

with a big question every year is yours

16:17

Is he going to even come close to

16:19

that number? On. But I it does give

16:21

me a little bit excited that he's actually gonna you

16:23

know, maybe play in center field this year and they

16:25

know. Last year they got the Michael A Tailor Insurance

16:28

and. Ah, This year looks like he might

16:30

play a little more defense which only raised value

16:32

south not go back to the well for like

16:34

the sixty or narrow. If I read books and

16:36

space out the i'll watch out. And

16:39

I'm in a piggyback off Scots, you know. Pick

16:41

their will with another guy who dealt with injuries

16:43

for a large portion of his career, and it's

16:45

kind of counterproductive. do I just said earlier? But.

16:48

I've always robert I'm in loose robber was one

16:50

of the best players in baseball but again I

16:53

just went against my point of be not and

16:55

vienna very good team so maybe if he's traded

16:57

at the deadline he goes to the American league

16:59

Teams can win. The. Mvp award. but man

17:02

it's it's hard to find a better true

17:04

center fielder out there. Mean there's so many

17:06

tools that he has a he's one of

17:08

them or electrifying players out there. Unfortunately in

17:10

that window the White Sox hat we are

17:12

kind of robbed of the true greatness of

17:15

what he could be. And there were so

17:17

many years he was electric and had a

17:19

just a tremendous back in glove out there

17:21

and any get hurt in miss time. same

17:23

thing with Boston. Like I always thought, they

17:25

were so interchangeable because those are five two

17:28

guys. But again it goes back to the

17:30

point of. Where the White Sox gonna be? a

17:32

word is Lees Robert end up? You know when we

17:34

talk about it again in August? The.

17:39

Our wedding is gonna be such as A good point

17:41

Jax made dropped us is that if record make such

17:43

a big difference and. I'm gonna throw expensive

17:45

vocals and to I met with a karate green but

17:47

fences workers and second half was was pretty got a

17:50

lot of people haven't really. Dug. In a

17:52

lot in his numbers in the second half and I'm. Kind.

17:54

Of rooting for him to do really well because the Guardians

17:56

have the first pick in the draft coming this year. And.

17:59

Are so much by. The against picking a first

18:01

baseman one overall but offensive mortals and has a

18:03

great year that you're gonna sell some of that

18:05

and and maybe make it easier for the guardian

18:07

to take my favorite guy. Number. One

18:09

overall song brooding. You know, Percentage Merkel the never

18:11

really good year, but his second half last year.

18:14

Was. Fantastic! I would be surprised to see him

18:16

take another step for the sheer. And

18:18

there's nothing more fun than tired of watching

18:20

when it's a wide open raise. I know

18:23

last year it was maybe one of those

18:25

races really across both the American League and

18:27

the National League where the decision with thought

18:29

of made early for it in terms of

18:31

who's gonna be the Mvp candidate but hopefully

18:33

this year it'll be more competitive throughout. And

18:35

if you want to hear these guys thoughts

less. it's that easy. We've

20:59

looked at the Elite and Ale Central

21:02

candidates. With some big names open for

21:04

big seasons, the A West might have

21:06

more candidates than anyone in the race

21:08

for ale Ndp. To that

21:10

a candidate. For Indie Scene for

21:13

the upcoming season. For you. I

21:16

think it's gonna be and a nother season

21:18

of to Mike Trout put of Ndp numbers

21:20

again. I think that he's still in the

21:22

running for that. He says gotta stay on

21:24

the field and he's gotta stay healthy. I

21:26

think the last. Three years

21:28

have just been awful for him in terms

21:30

of injury. He had some back issues. He

21:32

had a calf strain in Twenty Four One

21:35

that kept him out the full season lesser.

21:37

he broke his little tiny. Bone in your hand

21:39

called the him a bone and. That was kind of

21:41

a freak. Accident for look. I think

21:43

a lot of people look at the injuries.

21:45

They look at what trout? Has

21:48

done, you know? Between. The

21:50

injuries and said all regression setting and and

21:52

the truth is I don't think that performances

21:54

the same is regressive. Regression is a the

21:56

bat speed slowdown. Hey look at a little

21:59

slower on the. Have a he's look

22:01

a little slower out there in the

22:03

outfield. I think of trout can stay

22:05

healthy. I think that he's gonna emerge

22:07

as another Mvp candidate if I gotta

22:09

look across as the division. I certainly

22:12

could see Corey Seager in the running

22:14

for that again. It was so ah

22:16

interest isn't in. Not. As many

22:18

games as show how tiny obviously but or

22:20

to see Corey Seager be up there in

22:22

terms of making it competitive even though he

22:24

had some injury time on the isle, an

22:27

icy course seekers one to watch out for

22:29

for but again as it as a Angels

22:31

fan. And go with my child.

22:33

I'm never going to doubt Trout. It's just a

22:35

matter of. Dude. Stay out there

22:37

and play hundred fifty games please? I

22:41

absolutely love it. Of course we are

22:43

here without a L West clue Price

22:45

Patrick of Lot on Rangers tithing to

22:47

Dallas have left on married a chauffeur's

22:49

and course of like an angel that

22:51

Eric Heisman of Lot on Astros at

22:53

eye level you mentioned job it is

22:55

absolutely you never know how the things

22:57

of than a play out because injury

22:59

even those request was like you just

23:01

mentioned about my my trout might dictate

23:03

where the pendulum falls with the Mvp

23:05

candidate but Eric where do you think

23:07

you might have Mvp candidate for the

23:09

American League is one. Coming possibly added

23:12

the Al West. Or yeah

23:14

I think that there could be out if

23:16

you look at work with Mike Trout. I

23:18

mean if where he says are definitely about

23:20

he wants to stay in he I and

23:22

that was in Anaheim he was there. He

23:24

wants to win with the Angels and so

23:26

that means something So I think he should

23:28

you ever takes to say helping. If he

23:30

stays healthy he can win Mvp I gotta

23:32

use and I think it's gotta be Alvarez.

23:35

He always tend to have this little slump

23:37

where he just goes to a two week

23:39

spell where he can hit a home run

23:41

to save his life and chance and he

23:43

just strikes. A lot of. but if

23:45

he can cure that and stay healthy

23:47

just like a trouser, I think this

23:49

guy can hit sixty home runs and

23:51

compete against Air Judge. Aaron Judge had

23:54

a off season last year. he was

23:56

injured a lot to buy one set

23:58

of or he's looking to. A

24:00

lot of money and so I think that

24:02

er gr he made a lot of money

24:05

or or whatever but he's looking to go

24:07

out there. But.don't sleep on of course

24:09

Corey Seager bites don't sleep on these a

24:11

young orioles kids and some these young guys

24:13

they could pop off act as that that

24:16

they have. no they have no fear

24:18

or you saw what they did last year

24:20

and I think these oils guys are gonna

24:22

go off and maybe not this year. but

24:25

I gun or Henderson our our one

24:27

of the odd Audrey rush and windows guess

24:29

yeah that. Might be. Pulling down to

24:31

what team or what players may end up

24:33

being a little bit ahead of schedule that

24:35

may make it a competitive rates would have

24:37

a bright anyone from that Rangers team from

24:40

the ale was. Who. Might buy for

24:42

even across the aisle. But who might

24:44

buy for Mvp now that the reigning

24:46

Mvp is no longer at least in

24:48

this league, Yeah I mean

24:51

there's definitely some some of his options with

24:53

Rangers, but I mean you're looking for a

24:55

singular towns in the American. Lee was a

24:57

mean position player ways. Honestly I feel like

24:59

the list can has to start with lever

25:01

because the guy is just insane li talented

25:03

and he does everything you want on a

25:05

baseball field like he had a down year

25:07

last year and finished what. Fifth

25:09

in Mvp voting. like the guys are. some

25:11

soup at least astoundingly good. but I think

25:14

another guy who's a dark horse and it's

25:16

hard to say dark horse to be finished

25:18

third in be voting. but it's Marcus in.

25:20

yeah, the guy's just a model of consistency.

25:22

Hundred sixty two games every single year. Splash.

25:25

You're broke the record for most plate appearances

25:27

in a regular season Imposing bind because the

25:29

guy played every single game of every single

25:31

day at second base. Know the age days?

25:34

no time off, Know nothing. The guy is

25:36

just the model of consistency. He does everything

25:38

you want. A diamond defence. Offence base

25:40

running A he is just the model

25:42

of everyday gonna go out there and

25:45

had at seven to have a preference

25:47

for season last year was just astoundingly

25:49

good. Even though is not the flashy

25:51

player he is the model of consistency

25:54

and it again empathy game We have

25:56

a hundred sixty two games in a

25:58

season. Li

26:00

is so important. It so important

26:02

I am going to cut a piggyback. Were

26:05

bright left off because maybe we talk about

26:07

that like a dark horse candidate. or I

26:09

like to say we'll talk enough about that

26:11

particular player. Is there any guy like that

26:14

for you? who could be that conversation? Whether

26:16

that players from the A West or. Just

26:18

overall, who might be Bible for

26:20

Ndp this year? More Clearly a

26:22

small because two of you didn't

26:24

mention them. That's literally one of

26:26

the most exciting players and obese.

26:28

Also think you price for always

26:30

missing from a really broken births.

26:32

Yeah, Holyoke is coming off of.

26:36

I would say a disappointing season. I

26:38

think he would say a disappointing season

26:40

in he was so six when Blair

26:43

he was only you know, slightly above

26:45

average for most of the season which

26:47

is not what you want out of

26:49

the face of your franchise. But he

26:51

still finished with thirty two home runs,

26:54

thirty seven stolen bases. He was ridiculous

26:56

all while play an elite defense and

26:58

that's course it and big part because

27:00

he was unreal and the month of

27:02

August like literally broke medical records a

27:05

month we will probably. Never see again

27:07

out of a fifth wheel a player in

27:09

for very very very long time. I

27:12

take some of the issues that he went through.

27:14

some of the growing pains that he went through

27:17

over the past year. I've really bothered

27:19

him and he's put a lot of

27:21

work and ah over the last few

27:23

months here this off season down and

27:25

Tampa and I think we're seeing we're

27:27

going to see a very motivated whole

27:29

your Rodriguez because again via he was

27:31

only slightly above average for mostly year

27:33

outside of that month of August and

27:35

laden games when the on a lot

27:37

rested on his shoulders he did not

27:39

come through more often than not the

27:41

or he was trying to do a

27:43

little too much and know that kind

27:45

of goes back to our conversation or

27:47

just about. This office in general were

27:50

you a lot relies upon who

27:52

leo a lot of the success

27:54

of this marriage ball club especially.

27:56

and Twenty Twenty Three relied upon

27:58

Holyoke. Be in that guy. Recently

28:00

I feel like the out for a

28:02

twenty three year old. Pretty unfair stuff

28:05

to put on him, right? But now

28:07

that he has more support in this

28:09

lineup. And. Now has

28:11

the guidance of Brandt Brown who's considered to

28:14

be one of the better hitting instructors in

28:16

the game or today as the Mayor's Office

28:18

of Coordinator which is a new title for

28:20

them on their coaching staff and he's really

28:23

going to be helping them with situational heading.

28:25

The guy that I really look at. That.

28:28

Brett Brown can help the most as Holyoke and

28:30

with have worked their whole ios put in this

28:32

off season. I. Wouldn't be

28:34

surprised the polio. Comes. Out with

28:36

a eight when nine when season this year.

28:38

I think Pouliot can be insane this year.

28:41

And didn't I love the fact that

28:43

you guys had so many candidates because

28:45

that thousand so much about how competitive

28:47

the A West is in the in

28:49

addition to the American League overall. so

28:51

I guess if you guys wanna hear

28:53

more about it specially as a debate

28:55

rages on, wants to see the really

28:57

gets underway. Don't forget to check out

28:59

your favorite lot on Mlb. Sell your

29:01

team every day with the guys we

29:03

have right here that night. Now that

29:05

we talk about all the a candidate

29:07

in our and once again the conversation

29:09

around all of them. On the matter what the

29:12

south as he. Was none other than show

29:14

he oh tiny but it's a teammate of

29:16

is it has maybe better as to when

29:18

you. Wouldn't. Guys have

29:20

been talking about and jack about

29:22

how competitive the It West division

29:24

is. and it is so competitive

29:26

that literally fans or has loaded

29:28

up Mvp candidates from the Em

29:30

All last movie that show hail

29:33

Tiny, Fernando Tatis, Freddie Freeman, Corbyn

29:35

Carol and made him a shadow.

29:37

Of course there no good thing

29:39

about the literally as they put

29:41

together a list of swell possible

29:43

Mvp candidate coming out of the

29:45

National League, six of them come

29:47

out of one decision which is

29:49

absolutely. Amazing to me. So I wanted

29:52

to ask the question Miller did. I also

29:54

want to get your take on it than

29:56

Paul is wealth Miller? what other players are?

29:58

Maybe Ndp candidate in. This

30:00

particular. Division. But also

30:02

of the six that I mentioned school yeah, I think it's

30:04

kind of the front runner. The

30:07

front want runner is a big question for me.

30:09

There's two guys are really stick out because I

30:11

kind of look at last year's and Bp as

30:13

like. That. At the T. Study for

30:15

who's a win It this your who can

30:17

win it this year because run on a

30:19

cognac and himself a stork season right? Forty

30:21

home runs, sandy, stolen bases, Sophie's help he

30:24

he's probably going to put up somewhere similar

30:26

numbers once again. So for me the question

30:28

is who can do what Ronald A Coon

30:30

you did last year? For me there's to

30:32

candid like are really do something like what

30:34

he did last year that Fernando Tatis from

30:36

the San Diego Padres and it's Corbyn Carol

30:38

from the Air Zone buybacks Two players that

30:40

could hit. Thirty. Plus forty home

30:42

runs and still forty to seventy stolen bases

30:45

like sounding would be insane if either those

30:47

guys had like a thirty home run fifty

30:49

storm based I pussies. I think that's what

30:51

you're going to have the kind of put

30:53

up statistically to be in the Mvp conversation.

30:56

So for me, I think parties and Carol

30:58

are the two leaders in the Mvp conversation

31:00

right now from an hour west. And if

31:02

you look at a dark horse candidate, I

31:04

mean it's tough. I mean, like you said,

31:06

we're loaded up the top in terms of

31:09

Mvp Mvp candidates. But I'll go with a

31:11

guy who really. Struggle last year after

31:13

getting a massive contract extension on Javier.

31:15

Seem I'm going with Manny Machado who

31:18

has been an Mvp type player the

31:20

while his career the Padres are coming

31:22

off a really down season. So many

31:25

Machado has himself a big bounce back

31:27

year. Maybe the Pottery team has a

31:29

bounce that year and with those to

31:31

being connected Agassi Machado playing his way

31:34

into the Mvp compensation. Millard

31:36

you mentioned Ah, Corbyn Terrell as one of

31:39

your leading candidates and I want to jump

31:41

on that and just stuck. compare. I'm not

31:43

going to tell you who decides second player

31:45

is here, but Us Court and Carol last

31:48

year finishes according to baseball reference with the

31:50

war of Five point Four to twenty five

31:52

home runs, a batting average A to eighty

31:54

five ad finishing line of a O B

31:57

P Three Sixty Two slugging of Five or

31:59

six then be as a six. Yes, Oh

32:01

Ps. Plus a one Thirty four. He did

32:03

that in five hundred and sixty five at

32:05

bats. In three hundred and sixty seven at

32:08

bats, this player hit twenty home runs with

32:10

two hundred and A to Ninety seven batting

32:12

average an O B P of three eighty

32:14

Nine, a slugging of Five Forty Two, and

32:17

Opie as of Nine Thirty One and A

32:19

know. Ps Plus of one Thirty Eight while

32:21

also hitting twenty home runs in stealing twenty

32:23

basis. That's the Colorado Rockies, Nolan Jones if

32:25

you're looking for a dark horse candidate. If

32:28

you love Corbyn Carol that much, there. Is

32:30

zero doubt in my mind if both of

32:32

those players at the same amount of at

32:34

that I think Nolan Jones has a great

32:37

kids a chance to not fully steel rookie

32:39

of the year away from Corbyn Care last

32:41

year but ah but certainly someone that changes

32:44

the narrative in changes the conversation because if

32:46

know and if the Rockies played Know and

32:48

Jones all of last year. I.

32:50

Don't think it's that crazy to think he

32:52

a twenty five twenty five guy. and I

32:54

think the ceiling could be a thirty thirty.

32:57

God no. And Jones is a game changer.

32:59

and if you're looking for a Dark Horse

33:01

Mvp candidate, you want to go real crazy.

33:04

Nolan. Jones has a comparable stat line to

33:06

Corbyn Carol. And. Paul I

33:08

have a follow up to that. Not her. I

33:10

mean just to throw cold water on what your.

33:14

Replays and Coors Field and fair

33:16

or not. You. You when you

33:18

put up numbers like batting average on base

33:20

flogging, you're not comparing apples apples. You're comparing

33:23

apples to oranges when you get to play

33:25

half your games. On. The Moon

33:27

which is where. The. What the course

33:29

field is like and granted I look,

33:31

I'd really like Know and Jones. as

33:34

a player, but I just. Like. You

33:36

said like it's probably not going to happen.

33:38

It is a dark horse pick and if

33:40

he puts up monster numbers, the Rockies get

33:42

penalised. I'm not saying it's fair. But.

33:44

Like you see the Hall of Fame voting and suggest

33:46

that. They. Get penalize and then you

33:49

see. You. Know. Counterpoint.

33:51

You see guys like you know no one

33:53

are and auto and. Others.

33:56

Leaves and they and they go put

33:58

continue to put up. The numbers and

34:00

so it's kind of unfair, but they do

34:02

get analyzed for that reason and I just

34:04

wanted to add. On.

34:07

This topic. I.

34:09

Think that there's almost no chance.

34:12

That. Show how tiny win the Mvp The even

34:14

though I think a lot of people are

34:16

gonna be like oh show the Otan he's

34:18

a D H this year. D.

34:20

H is just don't win an Emmy.

34:22

He's a exceptional the age. Maybe

34:25

the best hitter in the game.

34:28

But. He's adding zero defenses value,

34:30

so this is not a year to

34:32

place a bet on. Sohail.

34:35

Town the I think there are two players, maybe

34:37

even three. But. Probably to on

34:39

the Dodgers who are more likely than

34:41

show how tiny to win mvp I

34:43

would personally. Think. That. Favorite.

34:47

Would. Be movie bats in this division. And

34:49

Freddie Freeman I would. Even though you

34:52

know he's of just a first baseman,

34:54

he so exceptionally good. At

34:56

hitting but for me of how the

34:58

movie bet I like the call of

35:00

Fernando Tatis. Come back. Because

35:03

people sleeping on him. I mean that guy when

35:05

he was. A me he still super

35:07

young and and just the tools or off the

35:09

charts but and you add to this my kind

35:12

of hot take his like otan he says out.

35:15

Friday. I agree with than that

35:17

the Dodgers will have the top three finishers their

35:19

V voting A Pretty sure that's what I said

35:21

away from his own cigarettes. but but I'll tell

35:23

you. what about the Ale Mvp last year? Even

35:25

if he hadn't thrown a pitch, he was the

35:27

best hitter in the league and was the your.

35:30

And some of that was because Corey Seager was

35:32

hurt. Even more than Are

35:34

Tiny was and so there wasn't There wasn't

35:36

a run a run of the twentieth that

35:38

candidate last year. I don't disagree. Offense point

35:40

about a D H having a hard time

35:43

winning the Mvp? Ah no and Jones go

35:45

back to hit a I don't have any

35:47

rest predicted. We talk about no jobs as

35:49

much an Mvp second a new let us

35:51

know the oceans but now that knowledge ah

35:54

does not Jordan Whoop! All I'll give you

35:56

that know Jones is really good And the

35:58

one thing that. I think could. Interact. Some

36:00

of that. Coors. Field. Your

36:03

call it bias or whatever you know,

36:05

the penalty is it. He is very,

36:08

very good defensively to. I has has

36:10

a really good arm and a he's a lot of

36:12

fun to watch. I. I. Wouldn't be

36:14

surprised at all seen on John finishing the

36:16

top ten an Mvp. I think it's kind

36:18

of crazy this think he has a chance

36:20

to actually win it? or but your ssh,

36:22

it's He shrugs out too much and and

36:25

I think that's something that seems you're going

36:27

to exploit now that. The. Op are. Now

36:29

that we've talked about him for five minutes seems

36:31

are going to be work is all. the front

36:33

offices watch him as knowledgeable as we got. All

36:35

good. he shrugs how thirty seventh I must say,

36:37

let's do that. Let's take the strike him out

36:39

approach and so he's gonna have to figure that

36:41

out. But. Yeah, I mean I need to

36:43

be a lot of fun. The fact that. You'll.

36:45

People talk about. All. The other

36:48

divisions up with. There's a

36:50

whole lot of really, really good players

36:52

in this division. And I

36:54

mean you could have. Six.

36:56

Seven of the top ten in the Nl

36:58

Mvp voting from a nationally was a that's

37:00

kind of Cool spicy The three daughters was

37:02

once you three. To have

37:04

one context here to ah Nolan Jones in

37:06

the home Away splits is just as to

37:09

get my final thing. he has a hires

37:11

he had a higher slugging an Oprah yes,

37:13

on the road last year, same amount of

37:15

home runs and only for less Rb I

37:17

have a twenty six more strikeouts on the

37:20

road, so obviously that's still a thing. But

37:22

no, and Jones is someone that shows that.

37:24

If. The can set

37:26

the standard that. If he is a

37:29

wrestler, August and follow make a play on the road,

37:31

but that doesn't sound like. Nolan. Zones

37:33

widget. We. Have to stop

37:35

fighting for inciting this man over here

37:37

is the villain really get argue amongst

37:40

other how fucked up after your blood

37:42

about and hundred like harvey and call

37:44

somebody else either way the boss at

37:47

pass is is sats fire paul but

37:49

it's really everybody sunni sad that zip

37:51

tie to write her you know maybe

37:54

to and looked his sister time and

37:56

real quick ah enemy Machado was agree

37:58

point like. Back vibes.

38:00

He had an off season especially as the extension.

38:02

It's a great point. I should have won

38:05

the Mvp into my my to. As everybody knows

38:07

I'm. I. Think that he says the clear front

38:09

runner. And. While. That.

38:11

Might sound a little biased it as as

38:13

of the bubble had I think that there's

38:15

two reasons for this and I understand this

38:18

isn't play as much in baseball's other sports

38:20

but I do wonder if is going to

38:22

be a feeling of after everything the Dodgers

38:24

did with Yamamoto with the Oscar Hernandez with.

38:27

Jason. Heyward being brought back as a big

38:29

deal to I think for that same armed

38:31

with all of that are people still gonna

38:34

look and say hey you have. Six.

38:36

Players that are six when players like six

38:38

hour for baseball reference up but one of

38:41

them for some reasons the Mvp. I think

38:43

that the Potters had that in their favor

38:45

which is that Bear looked at as the

38:47

disaster story and they should be. They spent

38:49

all that money they said they did, made

38:52

a bunch of moves, they even make the

38:54

playoffs so you make this bounce back season

38:56

and that he is. You. Know for

38:58

years I was told by baseball no worries

39:01

about how Byron Buxton of the American League

39:03

was the only player that could ever reach

39:05

ten wins above replacement because he's got the

39:07

office and defense and then ever what. Ignored

39:09

that he never really done it ever before

39:11

finity sooner has been an mvp can it

39:14

before and he's been exceptional before. One seats

39:16

are thirteen Wrc plus last year. but a

39:18

career like you had a one fifty eight

39:20

and one fifty one once if you want

39:22

the years before that if he gets back

39:25

his offensive prowess which if you will get

39:27

waited on based. Businesses expected wait on base.

39:29

Some of his bad a ball data might

39:31

have been a little bit unlucky and also

39:33

coming off an injury and a suspension if

39:35

you add that. To. What he did

39:38

last year just being that one thirteen

39:40

Wrc plus guy. That's. Still

39:42

good joke of your arbor. By his standards, it's low.

39:44

and you add the defense's the platinum

39:46

glove winner almost all of his wins

39:49

above replacement or least a lot of

39:51

it last year was being exceptional defensively

39:53

i ask with the goes under discuss

39:55

the little bit at a new heat

39:57

resistant lobby exactly from shortstop to everyone

39:59

made the Tatis the error jokes or

40:01

whatever, even though he was better than

40:04

other short steps in the division,

40:06

but got slandered for it more than that person that

40:09

I won't name. But I

40:11

think that it's because of that. And I think it's there's

40:13

a little bit of a redemption story around the Padres right

40:16

now. And I think because of that, and don't get me

40:18

wrong, I could see a player being in technical

40:20

I could see Mookie Betts being an eight win

40:23

player, but then Tatis is 7.7. And

40:25

then people are like, well, why are we giving it to

40:27

a Dodger when they have the Justice League on their team?

40:29

Like, that just feels a little bit weird. So that's why

40:31

I think he's the front runner for especially

40:33

this division, I can't speak for all the others, the

40:35

Braves are pretty loaded too. So

40:38

I can't speak for them. But that's why I think he should

40:40

be the favorite to win the MVP. But

40:42

I really like Nolan Jones, although crazy high

40:44

bad bit before a one, which is kind

40:46

of wild. Like, did he

40:48

get a little bit lucky? Maybe, but I

40:50

still really like the guy young. And

40:53

the home road splits was a great point by

40:55

Paul. That's why I was cheering in the background

40:57

like this was a wrestling match. Because that's pretty

40:59

cool. Because battle of like 450 on the road.

41:02

Right? Yeah. The MVP, the MVP races

41:04

from the NLL, NLL West perspective

41:06

is probably going to be more

41:09

exciting and intriguing than even who wins the

41:11

division. So I definitely can't wait to see

41:13

kind of how this battle plays

41:16

out, especially as the season winds down. And

43:06

it's interesting every single year to tied

43:09

to see how things play out as

43:11

far as Mvp candidate go across the

43:13

whole of the National League. The let's

43:15

talk about the Nl Central Division and

43:18

how we try to see things playing

43:20

out there. Stevens who you see, Mit

43:22

player or players that might possibly come

43:24

out of this division. a strong Mvp

43:27

candidate. You. Know it's funny

43:29

because we we talked about this just a

43:31

little before we recorded and I think we're

43:33

kind of all in agreement of how this

43:35

may go. You have to squint really really

43:37

hard to find a legitimate Mvp candidate in

43:40

the national essential. there's there's at the end.

43:42

Don't get me wrong, there's tons of great

43:44

talented young players coming up the fire. It's

43:46

have our own your cruise. The Reds have

43:48

L, E De la Cruz Map, Maclean and

43:51

Spencer steer all guys. That could be some

43:53

day in that conversation I had. The Cubs

43:55

are still looking to find their big guy.

43:57

The Cardinals. I don't know that anybody over

43:59

there so. The Nothing. The take the be

44:01

considered an Mvp candidate. You know no one

44:03

or another was not the same Nolan that

44:05

he wants. Was his Goldschmidt? Still Goldschmidt? We

44:08

don't know. I just don't know that there's

44:10

a a legitimate contender for that title in

44:12

this division this year. But down the road

44:14

we're going to have lots of conversations. About.

44:17

And. The and Hft Cd one

44:19

of possibly be an Nl

44:21

candidate from this central division.

44:24

No, not really. But to me, Nord.

44:26

Or and auto is always the biggest

44:28

threat offensively at the place. When.

44:30

That guy comes as a plate I don't care

44:32

what the situation is a makes me nervous

44:34

or I do not live in the same with

44:36

Goldsmith but especially on an auto when he

44:38

played Colorado and course west for use with the

44:41

with the turtles. They think the guy that always

44:43

amazing player not maybe what it used to be

44:45

a third base but still a big time for

44:47

it. To me he's the biggest threat to

44:49

some future stars in this like the like Dela

44:52

Cruz but I think the biggest threat the

44:54

plate right now is no and are now. And

44:57

that is fair. Little. Less likely

44:59

said there are really good players coming out

45:01

of the Al central they not that great

45:04

nets unless you're gonna go it greatness say

45:06

to you might go with the perennial great

45:08

as of a know and aeronautical but who

45:10

do you call it may be a possible

45:12

and because we said we don't know that

45:14

there's one the up a dark horse candidate

45:17

come and added the central division for Nl

45:19

Mvp. I If I had

45:21

to select one off of a different team other

45:23

than the Cardinals, I will be. I

45:26

mean sliding with. Maybe.

45:28

A Ma'am Acclaimed or a Cody Bellinger Those

45:30

are the guys on the other teams that.

45:33

You know, Mcclain was so good with Reds

45:35

last year and when his injury happened day

45:37

is it didn't kill the Reds by it's

45:40

certainly brought down a notch in that they

45:42

weren't able to complete the task of make

45:44

me to the play offs Valid years Bennett

45:46

Mbp before I had a comeback season last

45:48

year. If he can said used to get

45:50

back healthy with that shoulder the way he

45:53

looked last year, I don't see why he

45:55

would be able to put up big numbers

45:57

once again and lead the Cubs to were

45:59

at. In title. But as far as

46:01

the Cardinals go. I would. I

46:03

would definitely say no and or an auto.

46:05

I mean I know everybody's like he's getting

46:08

older. And Starbucks thirty three minutes? that? like

46:10

we're talking about a thirty eight thirty nine

46:12

year old player anymore. He had one bad

46:14

year where. You're. Considering I know. Ps.

46:16

Plus of one Oh nine Bad. These.

46:18

Days that's fine. I mean it's down

46:21

here for him, but dealing with back

46:23

injuries last year he's gonna breed dedicated

46:25

himself. This year is also bought A

46:27

a little upset is a little pissed

46:29

off that he's getting knocked like he

46:31

some old guy and now I'm anxious

46:33

to see the No One are Not

46:35

revenge to are here. And twenty Twenty

46:37

four. And need and sansern

46:39

talk about the possibility. Or Cody Bellinger

46:41

it's he may be. and I'll put

46:43

in air quotes and outside candidate for

46:46

Ndp coming out of the Central division.

46:48

Do we have any others as well?

46:50

the mighty, those outside Kansas to have

46:52

that kind of banner year. Yeah.

46:55

I think I i I side with to

46:57

crew here I don't I don't think it'll

46:59

be ballenger. I like are and Auto just

47:01

because of of the upside and and what

47:03

you could do defensively. you know and like

47:05

Jd was saying I mean he had a

47:07

miserable are not a you are not a

47:09

year last year in a was still pretty

47:11

solid. would you actually look at it So

47:13

and then our our privacy because of the

47:15

that the overall your talent if if they

47:17

look cruises is able to put it together

47:19

you could see him you know stealing fifty

47:21

bases and hitting like forty homers or something

47:23

crazy. You know if it. Is all came together.

47:25

I'd be probably won't this early on but you

47:27

know I think he would. he would be that.

47:29

So those two guys that the guy side kind

47:32

with the with the group there I don't think

47:34

it'll be. it'll be a cop unfortunately. Even

47:36

anyone coming out of the Nl Central

47:39

division who could possibly by for or

47:41

maiden sneak in and get that hardware

47:43

the season. I. Mean, I agree

47:46

with the crew here. I think Aaron Auto is

47:48

probably the guy because he shown it before. Technically,

47:50

if we're being real knowledge, your shown it before

47:52

because he's quite literally done it before. So I

47:54

think Villager is a god even mentioned in there

47:57

to. Ndp to me I

47:59

think is. Very interesting case because you

48:01

don't usually look at pictures for that. And.

48:04

I do think that there are some pitchers in

48:06

this division that could buy for it. Maybe even

48:08

Amid Keller if he has a. Full.

48:10

Season of The First. Half that he had last

48:12

year. Not saying. That he would win it. but

48:15

he could garner some votes. But of I the

48:17

name three Guys, I mean I definitely think it's

48:19

Ballenger or an auto. Maybe a Goldschmidt? maybe in

48:21

L A de la Cruz. we really don't take

48:23

that next steps and always burrow. Map.

48:25

Mcclain in there too. I think that the clean

48:27

again like a Jd mentioned earlier was a very

48:29

integral part of that read seems and maybe it

48:31

does take that next step that everybody thinks that

48:33

read seem to continue to take his wall. And

48:36

if you guys want to know more

48:38

especially as a season goes on his

48:41

seventies player so what they are worth

48:43

or maybe so that they are a

48:45

little as that slower Definitely want to

48:48

check out our podcast across the Nl

48:50

Central with your favorite lot on Mlb

48:52

so with your team every single day

48:54

assesses. And I'm from last

48:57

as he certain heart, lung

48:59

diseases and. To ask for an

49:01

hour easy and there are plenty of

49:03

players around the division that aren't far

49:05

behind them. Everything so that have that

49:07

guy it in the Mvp dies, or

49:09

even an ex sector guy who might

49:11

actually help the team to exceed the

49:13

expectations. Soooo that M V P for

49:16

you for the national and who sort.

49:18

Of you're expected to say while they may

49:20

actually outperformed what I expected was open up

49:22

it's gotta be shortstop. Cj from see James

49:24

one of the main piece is coming back

49:27

in Melbourne Soto deal. Obviously when you look

49:29

at you when you trade one soto you

49:31

need Someone is going to come back to

49:33

make an instant impact. Took a little bit

49:36

of a while Procedure Adams can get going

49:38

back and Twenty twenty two last year so

49:40

love little bit slow Monday be martinez he

49:42

put him up and leadoff spot. Since.

49:45

And Cj was kind of took off still.

49:47

forty plus bags only got caught stealing just

49:49

a handful of times. I. think cj

49:51

even going to be the guy for the

49:53

nationals and holder fantasy or that you're gonna

49:55

be kind of hang your hat on him

49:57

how can he developed can he be the

49:59

next sort of kind of trade turner come

50:01

through Washington, DC. That's kind of a pipe dream

50:03

that a lot of us have, but still it's

50:06

something you just got to have to think about.

50:08

And also another name to watch again, Mackenzie Gore.

50:10

So when you get in that Juan Soto deal,

50:12

a big left-handed pitcher, someone who could be the

50:15

ace of your staff moving forward. He showed a

50:17

lot of good things from 2023, stayed

50:19

really healthy this year. A lot of people are

50:21

expecting a big 2024 season for him and

50:24

a lot of other younger prospects. But I look at

50:26

CJ Abrams, Mackenzie Gore to kind of be the cherry

50:29

on top of that Juan Soto deal. So that's

50:31

what it's going to be about this year for

50:33

the Washington Nationals. Indeed. And

50:35

when you look at the same, Lindsay, for

50:37

the Braves, who's sort of this team's... And

50:39

what we're going to do is a little

50:41

bit different with the Braves. We're going to

50:44

say, because they had an NL MVP last

50:46

season. So let's say who's going to be

50:48

their team MVP, not named Ronald Lucuna Jr.

50:50

and who's sort of that X factor. Or

50:52

I like actually how Clary put it, kind

50:55

of that guy to watch. For

50:57

me, the guys to watch on

51:00

this team are some of the new additions, right?

51:02

Jared Kalanick, Chris Sale. And the reason for that

51:04

is what we talked about.

51:06

You did so well in the regular season and you

51:08

kind of fizzled out in the postseason. So Jared Kalanick

51:10

comes in to replace the combination of Eddie Rosario and

51:13

Kevin Pilar. And they've

51:15

said he's going to play every single day. If he struggles,

51:17

they're going to walk through it, let

51:19

him play through it. And so the question here is going to be, what

51:22

does he look like? Does he look like the early

51:24

career? Jared Kalanick, does he look like

51:26

last season Jared Kalanick, but what

51:28

he does can impact the depth of this

51:30

lineup. And then Chris Sale is

51:32

one of the most talented pitchers in

51:35

baseball, like in recent history, right? Career

51:37

leader in strikeouts for nine innings among

51:39

qualified pitchers, but he's also thrown very

51:41

few innings. And so the question here

51:43

is, what does he look

51:45

like in October? Can the Braves get

51:47

him to October? And can he be

51:50

another piece to help them get over

51:52

the hump of the Philadelphia Phillies? But

51:54

I do think, and something that Peter

51:56

mentioned Atlanta's depth is a little bit

51:58

of a concern. after the starters. Yes

52:02

and no, the backups don't necessarily inspire

52:04

a ton of confidence, but at the same

52:06

time, you saw this last year, the offense

52:08

is strong enough, the rotation's deep enough, where

52:10

if you lose one or two guys, you

52:12

feel like you can still go out and

52:14

win, you know, a hundred games or so.

52:17

The question for Atlanta is gonna be, if

52:19

you see some guys slump and struggle combined

52:21

with some key injuries, what happens to Atlanta

52:23

there? But in the organization, they're

52:25

pretty confident in the makeup of the

52:27

roster for the regular season and for

52:30

October, provided they can get some key

52:32

contributions from sale and some of the

52:34

other studs in your lineup, your Matt

52:36

Olson, your Spencer Strider, your Ronald LaCunha.

52:40

Yeah, absolutely. Lindsey, I mean, that's a great

52:43

point. And I gotta tell you, the cool

52:45

thing about the Braves is just how dominant

52:47

they've been for the past, what, decade, and

52:49

the way they built this roster with sustainability.

52:52

I guess my question, though, from the Phillies'

52:54

perspective is it almost feels like playing those

52:57

guys so often, getting all those stats in

52:59

the regular season, wearing them out like Peter

53:01

was talking about, does that, do

53:03

you think, hurt the Braves in the

53:06

postseason? Because honestly, this division for at

53:08

least Atlanta and Philadelphia goes beyond just

53:10

162. So

53:13

what do you think? It's

53:15

an interesting debate, and what a lot of Braves fans

53:17

have. They discuss, should we be giving these guys more

53:19

days off? But then you also

53:21

lean towards the perspective of they want to play

53:23

every day. It's like, is Ronald

53:25

LaCunha Jr. probably the ideal lead-off player? A

53:28

few years ago, you would have said no,

53:30

but he wants to do it, so you

53:32

let him do it. I think it's a

53:34

delicate balance. And you saw late in the

53:37

year, Brian Stinker tried to start giving guys

53:39

partial days off, taking Matt Olson out after

53:41

the sixth or seventh inning, giving Ronald LaCunha

53:43

Jr. a DH day. But there's definitely

53:45

the need to be mindful of the

53:47

workload for these guys. The flip

53:50

side of that is some of the conversation

53:52

around Atlanta and around the offense was they

53:54

had a five-day layoff between the regular

53:56

season and the postseason, and the timing wasn't

53:59

quite there. quite ready to

54:01

handle the Phillies high octane relievers

54:03

and the offensive game plan wasn't

54:06

quite sound because they hadn't faced real

54:08

competition in five or six days. So

54:10

there's a valid conversation amongst Braves fans

54:12

and the organization. What do we

54:14

do differently in 2024? Is

54:16

it giving guys more days off? Is it

54:18

maintaining the intensity all the way through that

54:21

layoff? What has to change? Yeah.

54:24

And Connor, I kind of want to follow up on

54:26

that question for the Phillies that Lindsay just kind

54:28

of posed at the end. What are some of

54:30

the maybe those things that the Phillies look to

54:32

say, Hey, we were on our way. Like we

54:34

were the hot hand. We didn't quite make

54:37

it to getting that World Series championship, but we

54:39

were right there. What are some of the tweaks

54:41

that maybe you see that they can make? Should

54:44

they be in position again to kind of

54:46

make that run for the World Series? Well,

54:48

they didn't make many tweaks this all seasons

54:50

of roster. I think honestly, they got unlucky

54:52

all due respect to the Diamondbacks and no

54:54

one from Lockdown Diamondbacks is in here. So

54:56

I can say it. They were not the

54:58

better team, but they

55:00

played the better like final four games of that

55:02

series and the Phillies offense went quiet. The Braves

55:04

know how that goes. You can get unlucky in

55:06

the postseason. You're gone even if you're a good

55:08

team. So I think what's really important for the

55:10

Phillies is you're going to have Trey Turner not

55:12

be awful to start the year, hopefully. And

55:15

you also have Bryce Harper not missing a month and

55:17

a half and coming back from Tommy John

55:19

surgery. So you're two big guys who could

55:21

be MVP candidates. You expect them to be

55:24

healthy the whole year. That might

55:26

be the difference between the 90 wins from last

55:28

year to a maybe triple digits this year. Who

55:30

knows? Yeah. And you're

55:32

right. This is one of those divisions and I

55:34

want to pose this question a little bit later.

55:36

So I'm just going to kind of tee it

55:38

up a little bit now, but it's one of

55:40

those divisions that's so deep. I mean, and it's

55:42

one where, okay, deep in like maybe the top

55:44

two or three, and then it kind of falls

55:46

off, but I still think it makes for a

55:49

very super competitive, very compelling and very dramatic situation,

55:52

like almost down to the wire.

55:54

Like you said, maybe

55:56

if we make that brave

55:59

decision or we make a that I think we all kind

56:01

of went equivocally here or maybe

56:03

unequivocally that it'll be the race, no one in

56:05

the division, we all agree, but then it becomes where

56:07

do the rest of the teams try to go from

56:09

there, like how did they get into the postseason? And

56:11

I think you could argue that this is

56:13

one of the most compelling storylines across this

56:16

entire division. And again, I want to circle

56:18

back to it later, but first I want to

56:20

talk to Ryan Finkelstein and ask that same question

56:22

about the Mets. When you look at this team,

56:24

who do you see as their MVP? Who do

56:26

you see as that X factor guy, or maybe

56:28

that guy that you're going to have your eye on this

56:31

season saying, Hey, time to shine. Well,

56:33

I think the best player on the Mets is

56:35

Francisco Lindor, but this year is Peter Lanza's contract

56:38

year. So all eyes are going to be on

56:40

Pete. I mean, we saw Aaron judge a couple

56:42

of years ago really dominate in a contract here

56:44

in New York. Pete's got a chance to hit

56:46

a lot of home runs and make himself a

56:48

lot of money. So Peter Lanza is the guy

56:50

to watch this year. I'd also say Francisco Alvarez

56:52

amongst the young players, he's the one that's

56:54

got the superstar potential. So if you're looking at a

56:57

couple of guys in the Mets that are going to

56:59

be hitting a lot of home runs and creating some

57:01

buzz in New York, it's Peter Lanza and Francisco Alvarez.

57:03

One other X factor, I would say just the guy

57:05

that could be great or awful is

57:07

Luis Severino. That was a sign the Mets made

57:09

this off season. He has a chance to be

57:12

a frontline starter again, but after what he did

57:14

with the Yankees last year, I'm not really buying

57:16

it. We'll see what happens, but there's a lot

57:18

of volatility there with Severino. So

57:21

Carter, this is still a loaded Phillies team, still

57:23

a team that has everything in front of them,

57:25

whether they win the division or not. Like you

57:27

said, I don't think that really matters to them.

57:30

I think they're just focused on let us get

57:32

back to the postseason and then we'll take it

57:34

from there. Just like we saw them do last

57:36

season. But when you look across this roster, who's

57:38

your MVP for the Phillies? Who's your

57:40

X factor or your guy that you've got your eye

57:42

on this season? Well, he's one

57:45

of the faces of the franchise and one of

57:47

the faces of baseball. It's Bryce Harper. It's got

57:49

to be this team goes as he goes. And

57:51

he's the only Philly to win an MVP since you

57:54

had Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard go back to back.

57:56

So like that's that's what you're looking at for the

57:58

guy who can carry this team. As

58:01

far as the X factor is concerned, a really

58:03

interesting guy overall in baseball is

58:05

Johan Rojas. Lindsey knows a bunch about him

58:07

being a prospects guy on the side and

58:10

this could hit 302 in over 100 of that last year, but

58:14

completely faded in the postseason offensively. Defensively,

58:18

he could be the best center fielder in baseball,

58:20

but is he going to be able

58:22

to hit enough to allow the Phillies to use

58:24

that defense? So if you get him to hit

58:27

and you have that tool in the outfield, like

58:29

you're unbelievable. And if he doesn't work out, then

58:31

you're piecemealing an outfield with with Marifield and other

58:33

guys. So he's the X factor for the Phillies

58:35

success this year for me. Indeed,

58:38

indeed. And Peter, what about you when

58:40

you're looking across this Nationals team, like

58:42

we talked about, there's always an opportunity,

58:44

right, for a team to still do

58:46

better than we're anticipating. Even if you're

58:48

at the bottom of the NLE, you

58:50

can still exceed expectations. So with that

58:52

in mind, kind of when you look

58:54

at this team, where do you see

58:56

the MVP and kind of where do you

58:58

see the X factor guy or the one you got your

59:01

eye on? Yeah, for sure. Let me give you

59:03

a couple of numbers here. 40. I'll give you another number.

59:05

40 as well. 40,

59:07

40, Jazz Chisholm Jr. season, baby.

59:09

Okay. You heard it here first. That

59:13

is we've talked about it for many years with

59:15

Jazz Chisholm Jr. When are we going to

59:17

see him play 162? And now

59:19

is the time for Jazz Chisholm Jr. 162,

59:21

150 over. It's going to be 40, 40

59:24

Jazz. He

59:26

is going to be the Marlins MVP. And listen, if

59:28

it's 40, 40, then he could be the NL MVP

59:30

as well. So huge.

59:32

However, the Marlins more generally, there's a load of guys to

59:34

keep their eye on. They have this

59:37

off season gone down to buy low, low

59:39

risk candidates. You've got Vidal Bruhan in

59:41

there. Tim Anderson's just signed as

59:44

well. Nick Gordon's been traded for. And they've also

59:46

got Edward Cabrera in the rotation. All four of

59:48

those guys, I think, are like extreme sleepers that

59:50

could absolutely pop off as well for the Marlins.

59:53

If they do, they can piece it together.

59:55

And this team is really competitive again. Now

59:57

that we've heard the MVP candidates for every.
