Dear Muslims, let's be honest when calling people to Islam.
One of the key talking points in most da'wah material is that Islam is "the fastest growing religion in the world." And though converts make up around 1/4 (23%) of the American Muslim population (according to this 2017 Pew Research study), exactly as many people (percentage-wise) leave Islam as those who have joined—.3% of previously Muslim people leave Islam in their life, whereas .3% of people who were previously not Muslim end up coming to Islam.
Moreover, this "fastest growing religion" claim is based more on the higher number of babies per Muslim woman worldwide than per Christian woman worldwide, according to this other 2017 Pew Research Study.
There's just so much more to the story, but Muslims have a tendency to sweep that under the rug in the interests of "growing our tribe" as it were. But there are very real consequences of this "10-minute da'wah" sort of method. We need to start being honest with them before they ever say the shadadah.
