Angels Envy and Be is commonly regarded as of
0:04
Ice, but it can be a good thing and
0:06
we can be a catalyst, recreation, inspiring the world
0:08
to raise the bar. And Angels Envy is a
0:11
bourbon that is worth the Envy. Angels and Be
0:13
bend the Rules is a little different from all
0:15
the other bourbons out there Because Angels Envy is
0:17
the pioneer of secondary finishing in bourbon. Angels and
0:20
V is finished and poor barrels which adds a
0:22
layer of complexity to the whiskey and gives it
0:24
a unique and approachable flavor. Plus, Angels and V
0:26
is one of the first full production urban distilleries
0:28
in downtown Google. And whether. It's for someone
0:30
special order bring to a housewarming party. Angels
0:33
and V makes the perfect get. These angels
0:35
are so A. They have so much envy
0:37
with unique bottle design. Eight of then we
0:39
bourbon finished in Poor Barrels is sure to
0:41
be the envy of any bar car. To
0:43
look for angels and be bourbon finished in
0:45
Port Barrels please drink responsibly copper a twenty
0:47
twenty four anal and be bottled by Louisville
0:49
Distilling Company. Louisville, Kentucky. Busy
1:02
I did back and evacuate like well.
1:04
I get so crazy some
1:06
so humble, well. They're
1:09
urinary body. Welcome
1:13
to love it or leave it the new CEO of
1:15
Boeing just dropped in, please keep that yourself until you
1:17
notified as next of. Because
1:21
he felt the airplane. I.
1:24
Live in our a laugh out that. Semi
1:27
a long fucking night. This
1:32
week we've got the very busy, busy Philipps
1:34
to final answer the question. What
1:39
is a woman will wrong on this year to
1:41
finally take Palm Springs for the gays. John Marcos
1:43
are easy, looks great on the lights of Broadway
1:45
and in case we all paris this week will
1:48
end this show with one thing we want Name
1:50
need you to clear off of our browser histories.
1:54
But. First. Let's. Get into it. What?
1:57
A week. Sen.
2:00
Joe Lieberman has died at the age of eighty
2:02
two due to complications from a fall. It's sad,
2:04
but he died doing what he loves, sitting in
2:07
a Boeing emergency exit row. Shows
2:11
you that I saw
2:13
rice. His. Dream of
2:15
a world with no labels remains unfilled even in death.
2:17
They have to put a little label on your toe.
2:24
Speaking of dropping fast and B C
2:26
dropped former Rnc chair run a Mcdaniel
2:29
as a political analysis. Nope. Analysts, analysts,
2:31
Analysts. you know, fuck it, leave it
2:33
in analysis. It's like them. As you
2:35
want to say, economics and era like
2:38
economix. Anyway, she gets shit canned four
2:40
days after. see series in that was
2:42
it's a me as mid a fierce
2:45
backlash. More like gonna Mcdaniel. Speaking
2:53
of the Rnc, the post purge Republican
2:55
National Committee has begun asking job applicants
2:58
if he believed the Twenty Twenty election
3:00
was stolen in order to help make
3:02
sure new hires are sufficiently pro trump.
3:05
The original plan just hiring Duke graduates
3:07
was only ninety percent affect us. They
3:09
are also tried putting an applicant in
3:11
a room with one marshmallow and then
3:14
said if they can avoid killing Mike
3:16
Pence for fifteen minutes so get to
3:18
marshmallow s. Meanwhile,
3:21
any Bloomberg News Morning Consult poll
3:23
found that President Biden has narrowed
3:25
or race Trump's lead in six
3:27
of seven swing states. Democracy.
3:33
Is now. In. A
3:36
margin of error.
3:38
It's. Right
3:40
there in that era bar. You
3:43
know, School.
3:46
According to a New A people Democrats are
3:48
more likely to say they feel fearful or
3:50
angry about Trump winning a second term than
3:52
republicans report those feelings about Biden getting reelected.
3:54
To. visit those same feelings of anger and fear
3:56
and republicans posters and said showed them a serial
3:58
commercial with a mixed race lesbian couple. But
4:03
Trump also inspires stronger positive reactions among
4:05
Republicans who were found to be more
4:07
excited about a potential Trump victory than
4:09
Democrats were about a Biden win. It
4:11
helps, of course, that Trump's cornered the market on the
4:13
absolute most insane people you've ever met. High
4:16
highs, low lows. Trump is out there promising
4:18
to shoot shoplifters and jail or kill his
4:20
enemies. Biden's promising not to cut
4:22
Social Security. It's not high-oncane stuff. It's not
4:24
supposed to be. Presidents are like
4:26
high school chemistry experiments. But they're getting people out of
4:28
their seats. Something has gone wrong. Speaking
4:32
of experiments gone wrong, Donald Trump, the former president and
4:34
guy who eats a whole row of Oreos and then
4:36
yells at the person who bought the Oreos and not
4:38
in like a funny way, like actually mad, announced
4:41
in a video on True Social this
4:44
week that he's selling God bless the
4:46
USA Bibles ahead of Good
4:48
Friday and Easter in partnership with country
4:50
singer Lee Greenwood. Religion and
4:52
Christianity are the biggest things missing from
4:55
this country. And I truly believe
4:57
that we need to bring them back and we have to
4:59
bring them back fast. In his version of
5:01
the Bible, though, it says Mary is a fourth best. Trump
5:06
continued, all Americans need a Bible in
5:08
their home and I have many.
5:11
It's my favorite book. Because
5:13
you know how books work. The more you like it, the more copies
5:15
you get. I
5:22
love this. I love this because it's a bald
5:24
face lie on two levels. He's asking you to
5:26
believe that his favorite book is the Bible, but
5:28
he's also asking you to accept the premise that
5:31
he has a favorite book. It's
5:33
like if I said I got my six pack
5:35
abs from free soloing buildings. The
5:38
God bless the USA Bible,
5:41
which costs $60, includes the Constitution,
5:43
the Bill of Rights, the Declaration
5:45
of Independence and the Pledge of
5:48
Allegiance, as well as the lyrics
5:50
to Greenwood's God bless the USA.
5:53
It's a cool blend of Christianity
5:56
and nationalism, combining a tacit assertion
5:58
of religious superiority. The empty
6:00
worship of patriotic symbols obviously not for
6:02
any lover embrace of the underlying precepts
6:05
or values contained in either Christian teachings
6:07
or America's founding documents, but More does
6:09
claim both. And the name of an
6:11
exploitative world views one in which the
6:13
Bible in the constitution belongs exclusively to
6:16
them. You my God, a kind of
6:18
Christian nationalism save you could name at
6:20
which I just did. Speaking
6:23
of nascent Christian Theocracy on Tuesday, the
6:25
Supreme court heard arguments on a challenge
6:28
to the abortion pill misrepresents with a
6:30
majority. Of justice to see me inclined
6:32
to reject that challenge and keep the
6:34
pill available. Things could be worse. Thing
6:36
said, be worse. Things could be worse.
6:38
Now you back in gaming, nothing else.
6:41
The places argue that they face moral
6:43
harm from the Fc a loosening restrictions
6:45
on me for priests don't because patients
6:47
who take the pills might then show
6:49
up at the hospitals where they work,
6:51
requiring follow up care to. Even in
6:54
the strongest version of this argument, it's
6:56
not that they might be forced to
6:58
give a patient and abortion against. Their
7:00
own belief is that they might be
7:02
forced to help keep them from dying
7:04
In the rare case something's going wrong.
7:06
You know, like in the bible where
7:08
Jesus as you ill, ill, ill lepers.
7:11
No thank you. Know.
7:20
That this on your
7:22
since. One.
7:24
Problem with even this ridiculous argument?
7:26
several of the doctors in question
7:29
are dentists and of a dentist
7:31
is dealing with abortion complications. They're
7:33
bigger problem that that hospital. And
7:36
as the lawyer for the government argued have worsened
7:38
Bills are so say that it's very rare for
7:41
any doctor to have to treat patients were serious
7:43
complications to see completely made up problems. Bring a
7:45
case this stupid to the supreme court to be
7:47
like calling in a fake emergency to nine One
7:49
One to should be criminal penalties, maybe not jail
7:52
time for something like having your eyebrows shaved off.
7:55
But right wing fever dreams were not contain
7:57
to the Supreme Court this week. Conspiracy Theorist.
8:00
The No Time Spreading misinformation about the
8:02
deadly collapse of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key
8:04
Bridge which was struck by a huge
8:06
container ship early on Tuesday morning. Let
8:08
me just quickly correct a few things
8:10
you may have seen online. The captain
8:13
of the vessel was not Hunter Biden.
8:15
The Brits had not received an M
8:17
R and a vaccine. The container ship
8:19
is not trance. While. The collision
8:21
is under investigation. Law enforcement officials said
8:24
they had so far seen absolutely no
8:26
indication that this was done on purpose.
8:28
Nevertheless, indicted influencer Andrew T. tweeted that
8:31
the ships had been cyberattacks in a
8:33
post that has been viewed millions of
8:35
times. Far I conspiracy theorists Alex Jones
8:38
amplify Tate's post writing Looks deliberate to
8:40
me, a cyber attack is probable. W
8:42
W Three has already started. Assessed.
8:47
Imagine hearing a container ship has hit
8:49
a bridge and immediately saying i know
8:51
what happened here. Maybe just wait for
8:54
a shred him information and and will
8:56
actually know whether to blame De Ayer
8:58
the Jews. Or
9:00
Newsmax former Trump advisor and guy his
9:03
name sounds like a fish hitting the
9:05
counter match slacks and s. S.
9:12
Blame the disaster on you guessed
9:14
it. Covered lockouts, You.
9:17
Look at are critical infrastructure and
9:19
I'm one of these people that
9:21
pleases never fully come out of
9:23
all the lockdowns in the and
9:25
the Soviet is used to com
9:27
I'm no expert and what's going
9:29
on the scene for all I
9:32
would say is is that if
9:34
he talked to employers in America
9:36
they'll tell you that as filling
9:38
sloths with employees who art drug
9:40
addled it's a very huge from
9:42
adults and it's. Wouldn't.
9:45
It be nice. To live in a world where
9:47
every time something bad happened you could go
9:49
on television and say the reason that bad
9:51
thing happens is all the stuff we already
9:53
didn't like. What a life that must be!
9:55
How nice it must be to wake up
9:57
in the morning. Because. Obviously this.
10:00
Happy. He's
10:03
a very happy person. Based on reports of
10:06
how he lives his life, he's got it
10:08
all figured out. A
10:11
ship it a bridge because of a covert
10:14
lockdown four years ago. To be the last
10:16
thing you say before your involuntarily checked into
10:18
the hospital over on Fox News. Maria Bartiromo
10:20
suggested during an interview with Sen. Rick Scott's
10:23
the The Bridge collapse had some connections to
10:25
problems at the Border. Maersk is
10:27
out with some comments this morning
10:29
because I and that container that
10:31
sell that collided with the bridge
10:33
was chartered by Maersk. Look Iran
10:35
Homeland Security I want to understand
10:37
the threat. So are the potential
10:39
threats that this country is facing
10:41
right now. given us wide open
10:43
border and the fact that we
10:45
don't know who's in this country.
10:48
We got caravans of Danish container ship
10:50
sneaking across the Rio Grande to destroy
10:52
America as bridges and Biden needs to
10:54
answer forests and answer for it. he
10:57
did. President Biden said on Tuesday that
10:59
he intended for the Federal government to
11:01
pay for the entire cost of rebuilding
11:03
the bridge. Won't. God wasn't
11:05
gonna be Baltimore. I keep falling asleep during
11:07
the wire by don't think it ends with
11:10
the city acquiring bridge collapse No big deal,
11:12
levels of wealth. I
11:14
know Bind is reassuring people of the government will
11:16
step in to help, but I feel like Mares
11:19
to probably pay for some of it's at the
11:21
very least Baltimore and Mare suit exchange insurance information.
11:25
On Monday, Florida Governor Rhonda Santa signed a
11:27
law that bans minors and or fourteen years
11:29
of age from having social media accounts to
11:31
Santas explain the children under fourteen or not
11:33
yet mature enough to balance. Social media use
11:35
with the demands of their full time factory
11:37
jobs. Said
11:40
it has as being buried in those devices all
11:42
day is not the best way to grow up.
11:44
It's not the best way to get a good
11:46
education. Continue. the governor if kids
11:48
are absorbed in their phones how they
11:50
get the full benefit of in person
11:52
floridian school he experiences like a p
11:54
noah's ark and sexless ad which is
11:56
not a class but a weird guy
11:58
named adam make sure the kids are
12:00
using the right bathroom. Speaking
12:04
of bathrooms, climbers on Mount Everest this year
12:06
will have to start bringing their poop back
12:09
down the mountain with them in
12:11
accordance with new rules from local officials. The
12:13
rules address a poop pollution problem on Everest
12:15
driven by the rising number of climbers. Last
12:17
year Nepal issued a record 478 climbing
12:20
permits and that new Taco Bell on the
12:22
summit sure as shit doesn't help. Each
12:26
climber will be given two poop bags, each of
12:28
which can be used six times. What?
12:34
And as a gesture of goodwill each
12:36
climber will also receive two
12:38
bags of famous Mount Everest double
12:40
chocolate brownie nuggets. To
12:43
distinguish these bags from the turd bags
12:45
they will be in aqua instead of
12:47
the usual turquoise. Speaking
12:56
of taking things with you, the British
12:58
Museum is suing former
13:00
curator Peter Higgs for
13:02
allegedly stealing or damaging over 1,800 artifacts
13:05
from its collection and selling hundreds of them
13:08
on eBay. A judge ordered Higgs who ran
13:10
the museum's Greek and Roman antiquities department before
13:12
he was fired for stealing all the antiquities
13:14
to return any gems and jewelry that are
13:16
still in his possession said the curator of
13:19
the British Museum, but I learned from watching
13:21
you. A Massachusetts
13:24
state police robot described as a robot
13:26
dog was shot three times
13:29
and rendered inoperable during a standoff on
13:31
Cape Cod and just two days from
13:33
retirement. Take
13:37
this as a reminder that life can change in
13:39
an instant and don't take your robot dog for
13:41
granted. Go bring it out of walk to the
13:43
farmer's market and watch local children recoil in terror.
13:45
Give it a good hard kick just
13:48
to see the creepy way it regains its
13:50
balance. Cherish each special day
13:52
because you just never know when it will kill
13:54
you in your sleeve. After
13:57
the incident the robot was given a 21 gun salute and
13:59
submerged in a in a bowl of rice. And
14:02
finally, Punxsutawney Phil,
14:04
the groundhog, has fathered
14:07
two babies with his groundhog mate,
14:09
Phyllis, startling their unsuspecting human
14:11
caretakers. This was more or less inevitable after
14:13
the little guy emerged from his burrow and
14:15
predicted six more weeks of raw-dogging Phyllis. When
14:18
we... When
14:26
we come back, Fizzy Phillips is here. Hey,
14:30
don't go anywhere. There's more. Love it or leave it.
14:32
Coming up. You
15:00
could be less busy. You could be
15:02
less busy. That's
15:04
what therapy is for. Help figure out these problems. Put
15:06
down your phone for an hour during therapy. Yeah, you can't be on
15:08
your phone during therapy. They hate it. But
15:11
they can't stop you. It's your hour. Anyway,
15:14
the point is, everybody needs therapy. I
15:16
need it. John needs it. Anyone
15:18
else? No, that's
15:20
it. Just two of us need it. Just the two of us.

17:50
great. That's good. That's good. And new audiences.
17:52
New audiences. Crossover. Crossover. It's why people do
17:54
other people. Crossover. It's why people do
17:56
other people's podcasts. Yes, it's happening. It's happening.
17:58
If you don't know. The one thing they
18:01
tell you when you start a podcast
18:03
is now what you have to do is
18:05
go beyond a bunch of other fucking people's
18:07
podcasts. So which one see like and
18:09
I said I don't listen to them. Wow
18:13
except for this one always. Been
18:16
a lengthy oh yeah we'd we. We like each
18:18
other and each other. I hurt other there was of
18:20
we. We spend time together and we're both a New
18:23
York And there was a moment we were on the
18:25
cusp of a regular friendship. Could have been friends.
18:27
And then it just didn't have as humans back. yeah
18:29
that's right and. I. Had a fuckin said air yeah
18:31
which are not happy about. Well. Let's
18:33
talk about that because. There. Was
18:36
an incredible piece in The New Yorker.
18:39
This months of at a garage sale
18:41
I. Need to serve with this. It
18:43
looks like one of us know.
18:47
Vaguely And so things are
18:49
both in some ways to
18:52
March maybe. Racists like looks
18:54
like yeah I don't out
18:56
a scene oh god yeah
18:58
not not. I'm just figured
19:00
automatic insert virus like. You just
19:02
like he does not look like
19:04
that. I don't look like know
19:07
what that is? It's weird. I would
19:09
you be a bit visit only a cut off image
19:11
as if you pull back. He's got puppet strings and
19:13
a sense. Got it Exactly that. so straight. I don't
19:15
think it's that, I don't think it's that has but
19:18
what? I'm. Not naive. Ah,
19:21
You. Know what I find? I don't think this looks
19:23
like you and the point I'm making a lot more
19:25
on our timing and unrelated point to this. Yeah which
19:27
is one thing I think when people like say like
19:29
oh I don't like myself in this photo there's no
19:31
real winning right? You can't say no no I think
19:34
you look good because in the like both you think
19:36
this is good and I think this is bad know
19:38
that exist looks like us no one thinks his looks
19:40
like a house I making like a separate point now
19:42
not it freezes with someone shows your photo in the
19:44
like idol like myself in this photo to say you
19:47
actually be look good as to say this is the
19:49
best they can do and what they get What. they
19:51
think is ugly but is that you don't like them as
19:53
to say don't like them in a photo sir i think
19:55
what you gotta say is this just doesn't look like you
19:57
which are now realizing is sending i had to chris about
20:00
his headshots. Do
20:04
they not look like him? Actually his headshot doesn't look like him.
20:06
Can we see it? We'll
20:09
put it up on the screen. Can we put it up on the screen? Oh
20:12
we don't have it yet. We don't have it yet. Still being touched up. Okay.
20:15
Now, here is what was
20:17
interesting about
20:19
this piece. Tell me. Now I
20:22
remember when you were first going
20:24
through the process. You were there. I
20:26
was there. We got stoned. And I
20:28
hung out. This is a piece about
20:31
how you guys are staying friends and
20:33
having a garage sale together selling off
20:35
the shared items
20:38
of your life. But I remember we
20:41
got dinner together and you were like
20:43
friends and we had pizza and I
20:45
was glad I was stoned. Me too.
20:48
Was there tension? No. No. But it felt
20:52
like – no there was
20:54
not tension. But it felt like it was such
20:56
a – I think that you were both –
20:59
there was not tension and there was not a
21:01
problem. But the assumption that other people would find
21:04
a problem led to the two of you
21:06
trying to prove there wasn't a problem which there
21:08
never was. You know what I'm saying? So
21:10
it was like two people who
21:13
were like – two people who didn't have a problem. Now
21:16
here's something. Remember we
21:19
got pizza. I remember that you
21:22
and I got stoned. We did. We did. Mark
21:24
doesn't get stoned but I remember we did. And
21:26
then we met him for pizza. That's right. So
21:29
maybe you and I were just really stoned. Yeah.
21:32
I think that was part of it. I do too.
21:34
Now – but also to say that – I want
21:36
to say this. I think that like
21:38
culturally we don't have a good way –
21:40
like look, Gwyneth Paltrow did the thing and
21:43
everybody made fun of her, right? Like consciously
21:45
uncoupling. And the truth
21:47
of the matter is like we all
21:49
live longer than we should, whatever. And
21:52
– and I
21:54
don't know. And not enough people are
21:56
saying that. You know what I mean? And like –
21:58
and relationships evolve. And just
22:00
like friendships do, just like business
22:03
relationships do. And honestly,
22:05
like if you are a
22:07
person who, especially if you
22:09
have kids with a person, it
22:13
is sort of your only objective
22:15
to raise non psychopaths or
22:17
like non sociopaths or people, or just
22:19
like maybe just people who can like,
22:21
I don't know, grow
22:23
up to like be on a dating app and
22:26
not be an asshole. So like,
22:28
and so, and so from that
22:30
point, I think that you have
22:32
to recognize that there are different
22:35
ways to separate and, and change
22:37
one part of your relationship
22:41
while maintaining another. And I
22:43
think that Mark and I worked really
22:46
hard for many, many years before we
22:48
like decided to separate
22:50
before we told people we were
22:53
separating to figure out how to
22:55
like move forward, adjacent,
22:58
but not necessarily together. And
23:00
whether or not that seems
23:03
to other people, like we are trying
23:05
to prove a point, like I
23:08
actually don't care, because all I
23:10
actually care about is myself and
23:12
my children and him and the
23:15
family that we committed ourselves to. So
23:18
sweet. We were both we were,
23:20
we were, we were stoned. I remember this. We were.
23:23
And, and I remember that you told
23:25
Mark that you told me that you were
23:28
separating or maybe getting divorced at that point.
23:30
And he said, you told Lovett, he's going
23:32
to tell everybody. And
23:35
I didn't. You had
23:37
a sponsor at your divorce garage sale. How did
23:39
those, how did you approach the sponsors? How do
23:42
you approach a Yerba Mate and say, hey, I'd
23:44
like your brand to be in on this. You
23:46
know, if you know it, it's hard out there.
23:48
You know what I mean? No. Well,
23:51
well, here's how it actually happened. I didn't have any say
23:53
in that. But my dear
23:55
friend Liz Wolf, who owns Cure Thrift shop
23:57
in New York, which is an incredible place
24:00
all 100% of
24:02
her proceeds go to research
24:04
for type 1 diabetes at her thrift
24:07
store and she had
24:09
and I met her because Amy Sedaris had
24:11
done some like pop-up sales with her and
24:13
stuff. What a cool life you have. No it's honestly.
24:17
Meeting people through Amy Sedaris. For
24:20
most people they meet people to get a
24:24
For you Amy Sedaris, a mere conduit.
24:27
She plays my mom on Girls by Bezel. It was a
24:30
dream. Incredible. But anyway
24:32
so Liz was like, was the
24:34
one who started was like let's just do
24:36
this like weird huge sale and
24:38
she had like been someone
24:40
from the Yerba, was it Yerba Mate?
24:43
It was something. It was a drink. Yerba
24:46
Mate. It was a drink and they like asked her
24:48
if they could come and then she asked us and Mark and
24:51
I were like I don't care are you gonna sell our stuff?
24:53
This divorce brought to you by Sky
24:55
vodka. Hey guess
24:58
what? Mark and I
25:00
split it half half these and I and
25:03
we donated a large percentage
25:05
to the National Network of Abortion
25:07
Funds that's $18,000. That's
25:10
right. $18,000 to the
25:12
National Network of Abortion Funds. And I just
25:14
want to close this. It's not what Olivia
25:16
Rodrigo is able to donate which is incredible but
25:18
I'm not Olivia Rodrigo. I'm just gonna say it.
25:21
Not with that attitude. No. That's right. Never.
25:23
One final sentence from this piece because I truly
25:26
loved it. You said once you live without something
25:28
for three and a half years and you open
25:30
up a box and look at it you're like
25:32
wait do I need that? Like my child's first
25:35
tennis racket? I mean she doesn't
25:37
play tennis anymore. She's not going to Wimbledon.
25:43
It's true. It's true. What
25:46
are we holding onto these things for? I don't know. No.
25:50
I don't know. We had to get rid of
25:52
so many things. She's
25:56
not mad about it. You
25:58
also have to give your kids. something to talk about in therapy
26:01
when they're 25. Yeah. You
26:04
know? Yeah. I could have gone to
26:06
Wimbledon. I don't know. I
26:08
love tennis. Tennis
26:10
anyone? Not for me. But
26:13
in the new season of Girls 5 Eva, your
26:15
character sings an amazing song called Is There a
26:17
Me or Is It You Just Guys? Is
26:19
There a Me or Is It You Just Guys?
26:23
A question I have asked myself so
26:25
many times since I was 14
26:27
years old. Well, is there a me or is
26:29
it me just guys? Done.
26:35
Yeah. There is a me. And
26:39
it's mostly guys. Now,
26:44
inspired by that song, we wanted to see if
26:46
you could definitively answer the question conservatives have been
26:48
asking for almost a decade. Wow. Which
26:51
is, what is a woman? What is a woman? What
26:56
is a woman? First question. Is
26:59
a woman someone who enjoys a long bath almost
27:01
every night exactly like our producer Kendra, which some
27:03
might say is in fact too much bathing for
27:05
normal human skin? Too
27:07
much take. Kendra, I
27:09
also enjoy a really long bath almost
27:12
every single night. In fact, I was
27:14
staying for free with my best
27:17
friend since I was five years old, Emily, here in
27:19
Los Angeles. And then I moved to a hotel with
27:21
a bath because my bathing
27:23
was suffering at her house. I
27:27
don't think you need it to say for free. There's
27:39
a possibility that someone could charge you. Yeah, no,
27:41
for sure. But I think if you say I'm,
27:44
no, absolutely a hundred percent. But I do think if
27:46
you're saying I'm staying with a friend, the
27:49
lack of a third charge, you should
27:51
cry. I'm just thinking about it.
27:53
It's not nothing wrong with thinking. I'm just thinking out loud. I'm just
27:55
thinking out loud. I was picking up dinners
27:57
and stuff. You know what I mean? No, for
27:59
sure. I'm not saying you're a good house guy.
28:02
That's the best. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, it
28:04
wasn't, I don't turn off the lights. And that's
28:06
like an issue. I'm not great
28:08
at it. I leave cabinet doors open. I have ADHD. You
28:11
know what I mean? No, it's hard to close them.
28:13
Yeah. It's hard to close them. Yeah, I'm one
28:15
of those. Yeah. Yeah. So
28:18
anyway, yes, Babs, I'm a woman. Is a woman
28:20
a human who believes in horoscopes? Mostly.
28:26
Yeah. Sure. Do
28:30
you think that... Something. Something.
28:33
Well, here's the problem I have. What do you
28:35
have? I know... Talk to me, John. The
28:38
problem I have is every time someone
28:40
says, every time I say, oh, horoscopes are silly,
28:42
then someone says, what are you? And then I
28:44
say, I'm a Leo. And they say, oh... Of
28:46
course you are. I
28:49
mean, literally, have you ever met more of
28:51
a fucking Leo? What?
28:53
This is the problem. When
28:56
I say I'm a cancer, and then I'm like,
28:58
but Leo rising, people are like, now it all
29:01
makes sense. So
29:03
interesting. I don't
29:05
know. Is the tide affected by the moon?
29:08
Yes. It's all water. The tide
29:11
is affected by the moon. But we're like mostly
29:13
fucking water and we're affected by the moon.
29:15
I'm sorry. We just saw the planets do
29:17
a thing. It happens. I don't know. Is
29:19
that how it got... That's what it's doing. It's the tides.
29:22
Honey. Honey,
29:24
I bleed on a full moon. I
29:27
ovulate on a new moon every
29:29
fucking month since I was 12.
29:34
I had to think. I had to think. I
29:36
couldn't remember. But that's it. Is
29:39
a woman a being who is looking forward
29:41
to Beyoncé's new album, Cowboy Carter? Are you
29:43
kidding me? Yes. Also,
29:46
everyone who isn't. Producer
29:48
Kendra today was... I
29:52
came in and I said hello and she did
29:54
not clock it at all. And I said, hey,
29:56
how are you? Nothing. And then
29:58
I startled her and then she took out her airplane. She's
30:00
like, I'm listening to the album.
30:02
I was like, but it's not out yet. She's like,
30:04
it's out in Australia. I have a VPN. Oh. Is
30:17
a woman an animal who feels like she's
30:19
ready to move from body positivity to body
30:21
neutrality? I'm
30:24
so fucking over it. Give
30:30
me fucking Ozumpik. I
30:32
don't care. I didn't create
30:34
the fucking problem. No. We all live with
30:37
it. We're not changing it. Everyone
30:39
go fuck themselves. Sorry.
30:42
All these motherfuckers have been on HGH
30:44
forever. I never saw one fucking Time
30:47
Magazine cover about it. I'm sorry. They
30:49
were on HGH? No, the men. The men were
30:51
on HGH. Is that how they
30:54
become superheroes? That's how all the fucking movie stars
30:56
have been so fit after age 40. What
30:58
do you think has happened? They're
31:01
on drugs. And then all of a sudden
31:03
Ozumpik comes along, and people are like,
31:05
oh, that's a fucking big deal. We
31:07
can't have that? What
31:09
in God's name do you think has
31:11
been happening? It's all over. Oh, God,
31:14
people hate women so much. It's
31:16
like, we didn't create this system
31:18
that we live in. And anyone
31:20
who has anyone in their family
31:22
who deals with obesity or who
31:24
has been struggled or had morbid
31:27
obesity themselves knows that you are
31:29
treated differently, that your job prospects
31:31
are different, that the entire culture
31:33
is built around shaming
31:35
and being horrible, especially to
31:37
women who are overweight. So
31:39
I don't give a
31:41
fuck about body pause or body neutrality.
31:44
Let people just fucking live. But we
31:46
can't do that. So now there's
31:48
a miracle drug. These are miracle drugs that
31:50
come in. And let people fucking
31:53
have it without shame. I'm just
31:55
sorry. I'm so sick of it because I'm
31:57
so fucking sick of it all. A
32:00
woman is a person who has fed the
32:03
fuck off. I will just answer that and
32:05
that is like, I'm done with
32:07
it. I'm
32:09
on my jar but it's hard to get because the diabetics keep taking it.
32:16
And it's like... So
32:22
I kind of have to like spread out
32:24
my doses because these sugar weenies can't... Need
32:30
it. Medically. I've
32:33
had a moment. I've had a day. I've had
32:35
a week. It's been a long time here in
32:37
Los Angeles these past nine days. It's
32:42
fine. Everything's great. Things are gonna be fine. Don't worry about
32:44
it. You and I can talk about it later. Can't
32:46
wait. Busy
32:49
Phillips everybody. Girls by Viva season
32:51
three is out now on Netflix.
32:53
Up next, Will Rollins is here.
32:57
And we're back. My
33:01
next guest is running for Congress for a second time, which is funny because
33:03
if I ran two times I would die. Please
33:06
welcome to the stage Will Rollins. Hi.
33:12
Good to see you again. Thanks for being here. Thank
33:15
you for having me. Now, Will.
33:17
Welcome back. Thank you. You're
33:20
running once again to represent the 41st District?
33:23
Yes. This includes Palm Springs.
33:26
Are you the most optimistic gay man in California? I
33:30
can think of a few others. Yeah. There's a
33:32
lot of positive gays around. Prosecuted
33:36
the Beverly Hills insurrectionist Gina Bissignano for her
33:39
crimes on January 6th during which she wore
33:41
Louis Vuitton sweater and Chanel boots. Was
33:43
it hard to throw the book at someone so cool? Well,
33:48
she also called for people
33:51
to bring in their gas masks and weapons and then stood in
33:53
the hallway as the Capitol Police Officer was crushed in a door
33:55
by her fellow riders. So, no. Wasn't
34:00
hard to throw the book and are you gonna? Do.
34:06
Hampshire Something about Magar grievances
34:08
because this is somebody who
34:10
has a lot and lies
34:12
and decides. That. They
34:15
are so aggrieved and so I'm.
34:18
Ah, Are inspired by these these
34:20
by Trump's Court of. You.
34:22
Know call to may have called saw
34:24
you know you're at losing something. The
34:26
country are losing your country that she's
34:28
through life away. Ah, To
34:30
do to be part of this sort of violent acts.
34:33
What? Did you take away from the experience of
34:35
prosecuting her? Yeah. I mean that
34:37
in many ways led me here today.
34:39
I mean, I I'm from originally ran
34:41
for Congress by kind of impulsively quitting
34:43
my job and decided to run in
34:45
what was banned. Or Trump plus
34:48
seven see because while those of Us
34:50
federal law enforcement were responding to be attacked.
34:52
My. Opponent Ten Calvert was voting
34:54
to decertify the election, voting against
34:57
a committee to even investigate the
34:59
attack, and then final straw for
35:01
me. called for dropping charges and.
35:04
You. Know, I love the the jokes you
35:06
had. opened a segment because there are a
35:08
lot of things about running for Congress that
35:10
absolutely suck. I'm just to be blunt with
35:12
the crowd by if you don't have people
35:14
willing to step up to the plate and
35:16
take out these people who are willing to
35:18
throw away our entire republics. Ah,
35:21
We're going to be in a tough spot and that's
35:23
why I'm I'm really proud to be back in this
35:25
and that's why I think the American people are gonna
35:27
return Democrats the majority and twenty twenty four in the
35:29
house. Another
35:33
supreme court's eye is gearing up to hear
35:35
of a case of Fisher v United States.
35:37
That is a case they can potentially up
35:40
and over three hundred January six convictions at
35:42
a sense I do think that would give
35:44
these insurrections didn't have time to get in
35:46
shape for the Twenty Twenty Five insurrection. While
35:50
other, I'm going to make sure that I'm
35:52
there to certify the next election because we
35:54
need a Congress that's willing to do it.
35:57
I mean, the reality is, ah, no matter
35:59
what, how. The November. Donald.
36:01
Trump is gonna declare victory and you
36:03
need to have members of the United
36:05
States House that are going to certify
36:08
the true results of that election whenever
36:10
they may be an damn. You.
36:12
Know we can have these people back out
36:14
there training to get in shape for another
36:16
insurrection, and we can have a nominee. There
36:18
should not be a nominee of one of
36:21
our two major political parties. Who. Is
36:23
encouraging political violence in the United States
36:25
that should not be up for dispute.
36:27
Yeah. And yet here we are
36:30
now. if sheds were horses ssssss,
36:32
I don't know them. It's. Yeah
36:38
for sure. Yeah to us.
36:40
Now Now let's not about
36:42
your district. Ah, This.
36:44
Is a swing a district? A
36:47
true swing. Districts. And.
36:49
A lot of smears do live access
36:51
and like and not swinger novices people
36:53
that have been doing for a long
36:56
time since or Palm Springs Gays these
36:58
are these are people that be they
37:00
as they. They. Have.
37:03
A records going back a long time.
37:08
Swing District Ah how I'm getting
37:10
back to it's ah, what does
37:12
it like trying to persuade I
37:14
in a in a district where
37:16
there are for the just genuinely
37:18
but like a moderate place where
37:20
ah somehow even in this environment.
37:22
Not. To this audiences I hot how could you
37:25
be. Healthy. How how is this?
37:27
A moment for ambivalence? Yeah I
37:29
mean and and and so just for
37:31
the record you know those swingers are
37:33
big part of the reason is now
37:35
democratic majority electorate. Our recent give our
37:37
on who they are going to both
37:40
a very little everywhere else access so
37:42
it is a top pick up opportunity
37:44
for the party Has the first time
37:46
calvert ever face. The
37:50
man's running for Congress to
37:52
show some fucking recess a
37:55
prosecutor. Show
37:57
some respect Susan the Koran. I'm
38:00
so disappointed. But it is split. It's
38:02
split 50-50. And
38:04
the truth is that in this district, I
38:06
really do think we can win some moderate
38:09
Republicans. I think there is a difference between
38:11
Republicans who are part of the regular electorate
38:14
and MAGA. And we even saw that in
38:16
some of the primary results with the
38:18
percent that Nikki Haley was polling, for example.
38:21
And what I've noticed, I think, in my district,
38:23
when you have a moderate electorate, a purple district,
38:25
where you've got folks who are angry at Washington,
38:27
DC, is there are a lot of things that
38:29
unite us across party lines. If you just look
38:31
at the anger towards Congress, and it's dysfunction right
38:34
now, right? We may not have Mike Johnson as
38:36
Speaker of the House much longer because of the
38:38
recent motion from Marjorie Taylor Greene.
38:41
But I think what I've seen people in
38:43
both parties really galvanize around is the
38:45
idea that Congress should be working for
38:47
you. It's been working for
38:49
the members, people like Calvert, who's
38:51
seen his net worth go up by $20 million
38:53
since he was first elected in 92, for
38:56
way too long. And I used to say, I'm probably
38:59
one of the only Democrats in the entire United
39:01
States who can run an attack
39:03
ad against his Republican opponent, featuring
39:06
a Fox News clip talking about
39:08
the Republicans' corruption. And
39:10
so there are a lot of Republican voters
39:13
in my district who think that all members
39:15
of Congress should be banned from trading stocks,
39:17
for example, that there should
39:19
be a lifetime ban on lobbying by
39:21
former members of Congress, and
39:24
that we should overturn Citizens United and get money
39:26
out of politics all together.
39:30
When Democrats lost the House, and it
39:33
wasn't because of
39:38
swing districts throughout the middle of
39:41
the country, it actually was because of some failures
39:44
to galvanize people in California and
39:46
in New York. And one of
39:48
the reasons was that in
39:51
California and New York, the issue of
39:53
abortion didn't feel as salient, that there were
39:55
places where abortion was really on the line
39:57
at the state level, and people really turned
39:59
out. saw that just this week in Alabama. But
40:04
now that we are seeing so
40:07
much debate over a national abortion ban, now
40:09
Trump is on the precipice of coming out
40:11
for a specific national abortion ban, do
40:14
you find that that is motivating
40:16
some of these moderate, even Republican
40:18
women especially, but Republican voters? 100%.
40:21
I mean, my grandmother, who was a
40:23
lifelong Republican, who met my grandfather in
40:26
World War II serving in the US
40:28
military, came back to Southern California, started
40:30
a small business that makes parts for
40:32
fighter jets, still operates to this day.
40:34
Somebody who, despite being a lifelong Republican,
40:36
was also a fan of Gloria Steinem,
40:38
who also believed that the government had
40:41
no place telling women what they could
40:43
and could not do with their bodies.
40:45
There are a lot of people like
40:47
that out there in the regular electorate,
40:49
even majorities of Republicans. So I think
40:51
what we have to do, for those
40:53
of us running in California and New York
40:55
this cycle, is make sure that everybody here
40:58
and everybody in our districts knows that
41:00
a federal ban means it's illegal in
41:02
California. We have to convey that message
41:04
to the electorate and it is up
41:07
to us to ensure that the next
41:09
Congress passes the Women's Health Protection Act
41:11
and restores Roe versus Wade as the
41:13
law of the land in this country.
41:21
Now, as you mentioned,
41:23
you're running against Republican Congressman Ken
41:25
Calvert this fall, a
41:27
man who has been named to multiple most corrupt
41:29
politician lists. I do
41:31
think he combines a really interesting form of
41:36
old school, get this guy
41:38
the fuck out of here, and new school, get this guy
41:40
the fuck out of here. It's like he's bringing together the
41:42
old school corruption plus
41:48
the Embrasive Magga. It's a really
41:50
interesting combination. It must be fascinating.
41:52
We're going
41:54
to play a segment we're calling Toxic
41:56
Kenergie because
41:58
of that toxic mix. I'm gonna have
42:00
you blind rank five of
42:03
Ken Calvert's worst wrongdoings. You will not know the
42:05
scandal. I will say next. Will it be worse
42:07
than the one I just said? Will it be
42:09
slightly less worse? This is gonna be hard because
42:11
he's done a
42:13
bunch of terrible shit. So, uh,
42:16
uh, let's, let's get to
42:18
it. Uh, first scandal. I don't want
42:21
you to see these cards. All right.
42:23
Not that you cheat. The man's like, was
42:25
it the man was a Justice Department official.
42:28
All right. First, first blind rank scandal. Bought
42:30
land in Riverside County near a freeway he
42:32
e-marked congressional funding for, then flipped the land
42:34
for a profit in full view of the
42:37
public and stayed in office. Um,
42:40
where, that you can rank it from what are we
42:42
doing? Five of these? One to five. I'm gonna say
42:44
that's, I'm gonna say that's number one. Number one. You
42:46
say that's the worst one. Yeah. All right. Okay.
42:53
Uh, let's keep going. Signed in
42:56
amicus breaks to overturn Roe v.
42:58
Wade. I'm gonna say that's number
43:00
one. Okay.
43:06
Um, you know what? Uh, sometimes
43:08
you gotta change the rule. That's what
43:10
Congress does. Changes rule. Was
43:13
one of the 139 house Republicans devoted against
43:16
certifying the results of the 2020 presidential
43:19
election following January 6th. Number one
43:21
again. Number one again. Man. Repeatedly
43:24
voted against having background checks for gun purchases.
43:27
Number one. Voted against a bill
43:29
that would bar, uh, child sexual
43:31
abusers from being able to sue
43:33
doctors who provide child incest victims
43:35
with abortion services. Is there anything
43:37
higher than number one? Jesus.
43:46
Hey, how'd you lose to this guy? I
43:50
wake up every morning asking myself that
43:53
question. Um, but it does
43:55
get me out of bed to make sure that I
43:57
don't lose to him twice. And
44:01
you have been campaigning in this
44:03
district and making sure people really get to
44:05
know you What
44:08
can people do right now this is gonna
44:10
be one of the districts that determines whether
44:12

44:14

44:16

44:21

44:38
it went from it was a Trump Trump
44:40
won this district This was a Trump plus
44:42

44:44
a Democratic majority narrow Democratic majority electorate Let's
44:47

45:38
us now the last time he was
45:40
here He played Jeff Goldblum working tirelessly alongside
45:42
the FDA to stop disgusting tick-tock food trends
45:44
So we couldn't be happier. He agreed to
45:46
come back at all. Please welcome to the
45:49
stage on Marco Sorezi Hi,
45:56
you're doing good to see you. Oh here. Yeah Uh-oh.
46:01
Thankfully, I become as myself this time. That
46:03
was a, I'm honored. As
46:06
not a character. Or
46:08
a person. Is this
46:10
you? Yes. Oh yes. No,
46:13
I... What? Oh no. That's
46:16
it. That's it. What if in ways that are
46:18
subtle, in ways you don't totally feel, you slowly
46:22
become more like Jeff Goldblum and that now
46:24
it doesn't seem like it, but that's what
46:26
you sound like all the time. Have
46:29
you thought about that? Mmm. Oh
46:31
no. I, no,
46:33
I definitely took some of it because I think I'm
46:36
Jewish, Jeff Goldblum is Jewish, and
46:39
I think what he did is
46:41
he took kind of the stammering of
46:43
Judaism and he added a little glide
46:46
in between. Yeah. So,
46:49
you know, if you do this, it's
46:51
Woody Allen. But
46:54
then if you add a little
46:56
glide, then, then, then... And
46:58
that's... It's
47:01
an incredible disstubble. It's interesting.
47:04
It's interesting. So I did take that. That's
47:07
cool. Now,
47:10
I've been called a musical theater lover by people
47:12
before, but that was usually a euphemism. But
47:16
you actually are one. I am. Why
47:22
do you think that is? Oh,
47:26
I just, I
47:28
have feelings and they have to be expressed
47:31
loudly and musical theater gives you
47:33
that opportunity. I feel like I
47:35
have both,
47:39
I have both signs in me, which is a part
47:42
of me dies when you go from dialogue
47:45
to song. It's hard. It's
47:48
a tricky transition. It's hard. It's
47:51
hard. When I
47:53
was working in politics, when
47:55
you worked in the White House, calm down.
48:00
Where you're worth. even though my.
48:04
They are.
48:06
It's. That. Then
48:08
the President has a box at the Kennedy Center.
48:11
This is the President's box for the present as
48:13
a good everything. And.
48:15
One thing, the present doesn't go to his wicket.
48:18
People might have ceded another night, but wicked going
48:20
to be there for a wise artist. Good every
48:22
showing. Magic is A President goes like oh my
48:24
God on the fucking Wizard. Smile,
48:27
smile, and Chrysalis? Yeah, okay,
48:30
who? Okay, you know what I mean
48:32
though. They of the pie, look at the wizard and
48:34
they've gone on on that guy. Was.
48:36
Eating Everybody feels like the wizard isn't a
48:38
wide resonate so much. we all sometimes feel
48:40
like we're behind the curtain, pretended to be
48:42
more powerful than we are. but actually we're
48:45
all wizards behind a curtain. As youth, you
48:47
see jaws and you relate to the shark.
48:49
Is that how you view? I relate to
48:51
also bygone, the Rebel. Oh really? yeah, that's
48:53
cool. But
48:56
so I you can go and you can cite
48:58
ought to try to get acts to a lot
49:01
of people always want to go use that those
49:03
seats. Yeah so I got I got tickets. The
49:05
Wicked. In a President's box? Brought.
49:07
My mother. And we saw Wicked. The
49:10
touring shown as in D C and I
49:12
have the same reaction in a musical. They're
49:14
talking, They're talking about. Our.
49:16
Saying and and then of course. But
49:19
I also have the other part of
49:21
me, the saggy part and. Dot
49:24
to the.to Defying Gravity and I
49:26
mean I am just saw the
49:28
like I must I come on,
49:31
Defying Gravity works on me every
49:33
time my tits out Things that
49:35
I am some kind of Defying
49:37
Gravity scientists that is Fleming, the
49:40
deaths of all recorded coffee, analyzing
49:42
the rest. Ah, there's now the
49:44
three. The three, the three schools.
49:46
of wrists you know there's three there's
49:49
only three different like had even come
49:51
close to doing it but it's the
49:53
classic it's the classic ah edina which
49:55
is ah center is what ah embassy
49:58
there's a there's it's over And
50:00
the third one is truly impossible
50:03
for anyone except one of these people.
50:06
But the point being... I'd like to hear you try it. I
50:10
can't do it. It's your original key. Why
50:16
are you making me do this? My
50:19
show, no, I'm strong and in charge. Now,
50:24
so anyway, Defying Gravity happens, I'm sobbing,
50:26
I'm on my feet applauding, and then
50:28
I realize there's obviously more than one
50:30
fancy box up there, and I look
50:33
to my right and former Senate Majority
50:35
Leader Harry Reid is
50:37
fully asleep. At
50:41
the time, the Senate Majority Leader, he was old
50:43
and tired. Sure.
50:45
Asleep. Ouch. That's...
50:49
I wish I had a seat. You're looking
50:51
at me like I should... I
50:53
wish I'd been there and taken
50:55
that box. What's
50:58
your favorite musical? It's
51:00
not gonna get any resonance. It's Falsettos
51:03
by... Really? My God,
51:05
really? Kendra, of course. Falsettos
51:07
by William Finn. I
51:09
don't know it. That's amazing. No, it's amazing.
51:12
But like that's... Let me tell you, that guy, Harry
51:14
Reid, he's not going to Falsettos. He'd be shocked. He'd
51:17
be... It's a
51:19
very... It's a Jewish
51:21
piece about screwed up families and
51:24
a guy, he leaves his wife for his male
51:26
lover but he wants them all to have a
51:28
happy family. And then AIDS. And
51:30
they sing during this. I mean, that's
51:33
Act Two. It's just,
51:35
well, yeah. And they're singing.
51:38
Yeah. Wow. Yeah,
51:41
I mean, in a way it's like Rent but
51:43
everyone's Jewish and in their 40s. My
51:50
favorite musical of all time. Wow.
51:54
Hey, hey. What if, you know,
51:56
Rent, sure. What if it
51:58
was a little more anxious than Modlin? Sure.
52:01
Have I got a show for you? What
52:04
do you think about stunt casting in musicals where they
52:06
bring in a big star? What
52:08
do you think about it? What do you think
52:11
about Eddie Renbain on Broadway? I
52:13
think he'll do good in
52:15
that role because if you don't have to sing,
52:18
that's fine. But here's
52:20
my thing. Nine is another musical, one of
52:22
my favorites. Daniel Day-Lewis could
52:24
literally become Abraham Lincoln. Daniel
52:26
Day-Lewis could literally become Christy
52:29
Brown on my left foot. You know what he couldn't do? Sing.
52:33
Not one lick. This is the guy who
52:35
could portray anything but they put him in
52:37
nine and they had to lower the key.
52:40
So I say no, you can do
52:42
stunt casting if it doesn't involve intensive
52:44
singing. But if you do, then
52:46
it's going to be bad. Hey, didn't
52:49
Daniel Day-Lewis get away with murder
52:51
by becoming people that don't exist
52:53
on video? It's like,
52:55
oh, wow, yeah, he became Bill the Butcher, I
52:57
guess. He became Abraham
53:00
Lincoln. Sure. Sure.
53:02
Sure. Says who? For
53:05
all we know, he was terrible. Oh,
53:08
you mean, oh, I see what you're saying.
53:10
Because he did that voice. For Lincoln, that
53:13
wasn't a good depression. No, it was good.
53:15
He did the high. That's actually how Lincoln
53:17
actually sounded. But I feel like
53:19
I also read an Atlantic article that said
53:21
actually Lincoln's voice was kind of high. And
53:24
did Daniel Day-Lewis just read the same article as me? Is that the work
53:26
we're talking about? This is what I don't know. And
53:28
I think it's fine and not the thing you're here to talk about. No,
53:32
not at all. What
53:37
are you here to talk about? Musicals.
53:39
Yeah, just musicals. Check
53:46
the Cheesecake Back Dream. It's
53:49
been a long time since I've been there. I think
53:51
it's a shame. In high school, I'd go. In high
53:54
school? Yeah. Not
53:56
since. No, there's not that many in New York, I don't
53:58
think. No, there aren't. problem. Yeah
54:01
that's the number one problem in New
54:03
York City. Yeah. It goes Cheesecake Factory,
54:05
the guy who's just punching women looking
54:07
at their phone. Cheesecake
54:10
Factory again because it needs
54:12
to be brought back up.
54:15
Right and then the subway
54:17
shoving. Now hey what's going on
54:19
people punching women in New York? Why is that? Not while I'm
54:21
in LA. You
54:31
know what I think I think what was
54:33
interesting in the tone there was so fascinating
54:35
it was like it was it was it
54:37
was interesting and I think we all really had a good time.
54:41
Now I'm gonna run down some of Broadway's most beloved
54:43
shows you have to say in reality
54:46
whether or not they suck shit. Okay.
54:48
Fan of the opera. Suck
54:51
shit man. Suck shit. I...
54:54
Oh my
54:56
god the reaction. Here's the thing
54:58
that I didn't know. I didn't
55:00
realize how murderous the Phantom was.
55:03
Yeah. Yeah. Well they you have
55:05
this in the in like before you before
55:07
you know the story you're like oh the
55:09
Phantom of the Opera he's got something wrong
55:11
with his punum and so
55:14
he's sort of a misbegot
55:17
a sad figure but falls in love with
55:19
somebody like oh no no he's a murderer.
55:21
Yeah. He's a villain.
55:23
He's definitely a villain but he's kind
55:26
of sexy in its own way. Right.
55:29
Cats. Trash. Trash.
55:32
Do you have a Hanson? I
55:36
think it's I think it's good but then when that
55:38
movie came out people were like well
55:40
he's kind of problematic he lied about
55:42
this whole thing. What's that's the
55:44
whole point of the musical? That's the whole point of the
55:46
musical but when people saw it and and they didn't have
55:48
the magic of the lights and they just saw it they
55:50
were like that's kind of fucked up. Well I
55:53
really thought it was beautiful and I that was another
55:55
one. You like the Phantom so what your opinion doesn't
55:57
matter at all. You like the wizard
55:59
you like Phantom
56:01
and you're like, you're a handsome. Yeah. I
56:04
like sweet big songs and
56:07
none of what you like. It's
56:09
too... Little Jewish songs at a dining
56:11
table about psychology.
56:13
Yeah, people singing about divorce. That
56:16
sucks. That's not what you sing about.
56:18
This is America. We don't sing about divorce. We sing
56:21
about witches
56:23
now. But
56:25
I do... Anyway. Hamilton.
56:29
It's a mix for
56:31
me. Well,
56:34
so... Oh, really? This audience
56:36
doesn't... Listen, I got
56:39
some problems with Hamilton. I
56:41
don't think we need to be
56:43
glorifying the founding fathers. We
56:45
don't need to be glorifying these people at
56:48
all. They were very problematic.
56:50
And so the idea of the hero
56:52
worship of the American myth, I
56:55
don't think we need to be doing it. And I
56:57
think you have a musical that, what, mentioned slavery, what,
56:59
for two lines? That's
57:01
like a musical about, you know, a Hitler that
57:03
mostly was about his painting. It
57:06
doesn't make any sense. Sorry.
57:10
You asked! This was the game? No, I'm thinking
57:12
about it. I love Hamilton. I think it perfectly
57:14
captures the musical nature of our country. No,
57:17
I... Well... Well...
57:24
So what I was thinking about is actually what I was really trying
57:26
to formulate was my own opinion, absent the noise of so many interlocking
57:28
opinions of
57:34
opinions of opinions that Hamilton has generated over the since has
57:36
come out. You know what I mean? That
57:39
like I have trouble even now separating
57:41
my opinion of Hamilton as I saw
57:43
it, as it existed from years of
57:45
people loving it, people praising it, then
57:48
people disliking the praisers, then from that turning it to
57:50
a... 100% agree. ...conterrarian. No, but I'm not denigrating or...
57:53
And I like it in that sense. I like it
57:55
as a musical piece. It's
57:57
entertaining. Listen, the last... last
58:00
moment, I didn't see it live, I can't
58:02
afford those tickets, but the last moment where
58:04
she looks out and she sees the musical
58:06
of his life and she goes, I
58:09
cried, I cried just like you watching a witch
58:11
flying in the sky. Now
58:16
it's time for a game we're calling, Merrily We
58:18
Troll Along. God
58:21
damn it. That's the kind of
58:23
stunt casting I can approve. That's
58:26
great, that's great. I'll
58:28
describe a musical to you and you'll tell us
58:30
if it's a real musical. True
58:32
or false, okay? True or false,
58:35
is this a real musical? Suffs, a Broadway musical about
58:37
the suffragettes fighting to win the vote in the early
58:39
20th century, a musical
58:41
which counts Hillary Clinton and Nobel Peace
58:43
Prize winner Malala among its producers. True.
58:46
That is true. People gasp.
58:48
They gasp, they gasp. Suffs,
58:52
Earth Girls Are Easy, the titular musical
58:55
based on the horny 80s alien comedy
58:57
starring Jeff Goldbrum and Gina Davis featuring
58:59
a young Jim Carrey set to premiere
59:01
at Seattle's Fifth Avenue Theater this August.
59:03
Absolutely false. False, you got it. While
59:06
it never visually made it to the Big White
59:08
Way, the Evil Dead musical based on the blood-soaked
59:10
Sam Raimi horror flick did enjoy an off-Broadway run
59:12
at Manhattan's New World Stages which featured a splash
59:14
zone in the first two rows for which attendees
59:16
were given rain ponchos. 100% true. It
59:19
is true. And if you're in
59:21
California next month you can see it at the Maverick Theater in
59:23
Fullerton. The
59:26
notebook musical based on the 2004 Ryan Gosling
59:28
and Rachel McAdams romantic genre is on Broadway
59:30
right now and is earned mixed reviews including
59:32
a New York Times pan titled The Notebook
59:35
Review, A Musical Tear Jerker or Just All
59:37
Wet? That is true. Just
59:40
All Wet, is that me watching The Notebook? Oh
59:46
no, I can't make jokes. Also
59:51
the characters are played by actors of different
59:53
races of stage. That's
59:56
great. As
1:00:01
parodied on 30 Rock, the missing piece of musical...
1:00:03
Is one of them green like alphabets on point
1:00:05
later in the... If
1:00:08
so, you know what, I'm smiling. I
1:00:11
like musicals where people are caught like green.
1:00:14
Yeah, yeah. Because then you're like, now we're
1:00:16
at a show. A lot of makeup. Yeah. A
1:00:18
lot of quick change. Oh, how'd they put that
1:00:20
on? You know? Then
1:00:23
you're having a good time. Because it's not a movie.
1:00:25
There's no pausing. You're into everything
1:00:27
but the plot. That's
1:00:31
why I like cats. It's
1:00:33
just a jellicle moon. You don't have to be such an asshole
1:00:36
about it. Miracle
1:00:39
on the Hudson, the musical based on
1:00:41
pilot Sully Sullenberger's emergency river landing debuted
1:00:43
in January, Washington, D.C.'s Arena Stage, the
1:00:45
same theater where Dear Evan Hanson premiered
1:00:47
before it went to Broadway. Oh, boy.
1:00:50
I gotta say false. That sounds terrible. It is
1:00:52
false. It is false. So
1:00:55
Matthew Broderick did a parody, the did parody idea on Jimmy
1:00:57
Kimmel with a number called Hudson We Have
1:00:59
a Problem. Maybe
1:01:03
they should make it now. Beginning
1:01:05
its off-Broadway run at Theater 80 in
1:01:08
June of 2011, Silence, the musical, reimagines
1:01:10
the 1990 Jonathan Demme thriller,
1:01:12
Silence of the Lambs, for the stage.
1:01:15
True. True. And
1:01:17
here is a clip of a song from the production titled
1:01:19
Put the Fucking Lotion in the Basket. I
1:01:22
wonder if there's anything I
1:01:24
feel a little bit of
1:01:26
this yet? The
1:01:30
fucking ocean is so
1:01:32
fast in the Basket. No,
1:01:35
thank you. Here's
1:01:37
a moment where I go, oh, yeah, I get
1:01:39
why people hate musical theater. I could see it
1:01:41
so quickly. Yeah.
1:01:47
That part I watched, because I auditioned for that part as well. You
1:01:51
don't want that part. It ruins the rest of your career. You
1:01:54
know, that guy, he took, you remember, it
1:01:56
wasn't until he showed up in heat. You're like, oh, my God, he's in
1:01:58
heat. Not that
1:02:01
guy, the guy from The Thing. He
1:02:03
has a name. Everybody cool it. And
1:02:05
finally, are you having fun? I'm having a
1:02:07
blast. Okay. I mean, I'm
1:02:09
100% right so far, right? Yeah, you're crushing
1:02:12
it. I'm crushing it. You're crushing it. I
1:02:14
know. You really know about musicals. Thank
1:02:16
you. And finally, for the love of
1:02:18
the glove, a Michael Jackson
1:02:20
musical told from the perspective of Jackson's signature
1:02:23
white glove, who is an alien using the
1:02:25
Jackson 5 to take over the planet, opened
1:02:27
in LA right before the pandemic at the
1:02:29
Carl Sagan and Androian Theater. That
1:02:32
is false. That's false. Oh
1:02:34
my God. No way. No. It's
1:02:38
true. You got it. You
1:02:40
know what? You were so cocky. You're so cocky.
1:02:43
You knew the answers. You know, because
1:02:45
there's another, there's another Michael Jackson musical
1:02:47
on Broadway right
1:02:52
now. It's made it so tricky. Kendra.
1:02:54
It's the way, the way Hamilton avoids ever
1:02:56
really talking about slavery. The Michael Jackson musical
1:02:59
doesn't touch once the allegations against him at
1:03:01
all. Which had to do
1:03:03
with touching a sub bundle of times. Yeah.
1:03:06
I mean, frankly, that glove probably knows more than anyone else.
1:03:11
Well, that's an unfortunate place to leave it. But
1:03:14
thank you, John Marco. When we come
1:03:16
back, we're clearing our browser history. Don't
1:03:20
go anywhere. Love it or leave it. And there's more

1:06:40
for a segment we're calling Just
1:06:42
Browsing. Busy and Will, come on out.
1:06:46
Sorry. Joining
1:06:51
John Marko. Good to see you
1:06:53
both again. Hi. And
1:06:56
now for a segment we're calling Just Browsing. Here's
1:06:59
how it works. We each have 60 seconds to
1:07:01
beg the audience to delete one extremely embarrassing thing
1:07:03
off our browser history when we die. Booy. Is
1:07:07
there a wheel? Yeah. I
1:07:09
always ask, there's a stupid question. Why is it the wheel?
1:07:13
That's how we do it. Oh,
1:07:16
yes. How
1:07:22
to get old photos off of
1:07:24
Google image. Oh. How
1:07:29
do I get old photos of my face
1:07:32
off of Google images? Google
1:07:36
images. How do I get old
1:07:38
face off? Too
1:07:40
many pictures, old face. Hot
1:07:45
hair transplant, lost weight. Older
1:07:51
but hotter. Question
1:07:53
mark. Took
1:07:56
Monjaro because of society. We
1:08:01
can't help it! We didn't bug it! Thank
1:08:05
you. Thank
1:08:08
you. Alright,
1:08:13
that was something. Let's spin it again. It's
1:08:20
me! It's me! Here's
1:08:23
what we're going to delete. I
1:08:26
sometimes have to Google words that I don't know
1:08:28
how to spell, and I don't
1:08:30
know how to spell them so
1:08:32
poorly, that it doesn't even autocorrect.
1:08:37
For a while, masturbate was one of them.
1:08:41
Sometimes still, restaurants
1:08:44
is... I
1:08:48
am trying to think of another word that
1:08:50
I had earlier that I was like, what
1:08:53
is it? Oh, misogyny! But
1:08:56
now I just think miso soup. Oh,
1:08:59
interesting. Yeah, that's interesting. Because you think there's
1:09:01
going to be a why, but... You think
1:09:03
there's going to be a fucking why! Yeah.
1:09:06
There is a why. There is a why. It's
1:09:08
not where you think it's going to be miso soup,
1:09:10
you're good. Isn't
1:09:13
it weird that it's not
1:09:15
restaurateur, but restaurateur or whatever?
1:09:18
That's stupid. Exactly. And
1:09:21
also, by the way, I'm
1:09:23
not wrong. For
1:09:27
not knowing how to spell. No. Great.
1:09:32
Yeah. I think the segments were... I mean, I do
1:09:34
want it wiped. It is embarrassing. I don't think it
1:09:36
is. I think spelling is stupid. I
1:09:39
kind of do too. You know what?
1:09:41
English is an evolving language, as my
1:09:43
15-year-old told me. Yeah.
1:09:47
There was a president that got on board
1:09:49
with just phonetic spelling, and there's a period
1:09:51
in his life where all his letters go
1:09:53
phonetic. Does anyone know what I'm talking
1:09:55
about? Is it
1:09:57
Reagan? No, that was... That
1:10:00
was just a client. That was just a client. Well,
1:10:03
that's, I think, phonic. Phonic. And
1:10:05
dementia. Sure. But
1:10:07
no, I think it might have been Teddy Roosevelt, you
1:10:09
know, one of his little kooky ideas. Anyway, let's see
1:10:12
who's up next. Which
1:10:14
is this? You
1:10:23
got Marco? Okay, sure. Countdown
1:10:28
to the countdown. I
1:10:30
get my thoughts together. Oh my God. This
1:10:32
is brutal, Chris. Okay. I
1:10:34
know your producers are right here. This
1:10:36
segment is fucking insane. You're
1:10:39
like, tell a secret that you wouldn't tell
1:10:41
anyone on the show. No, not
1:10:43
at all. Of course not. Of course not.
1:10:45
You come up with a fun one. What
1:10:48
was she spelling masturbate for? That's the thing that you
1:10:50
probably want to have to leave. That's
1:10:52
the question. I come to text my
1:10:54
friends. I was masturbating last
1:10:57
night. Sure. And
1:10:59
I was googling busy Phillips masturbating last
1:11:01
night. And I want that removed from
1:11:03
the internet immediately. I
1:11:06
go, I go searches. I'm embarrassed of
1:11:09
Mr. Hands, lemon party, two girls, one cop.
1:11:11
You know, this fucker is not going to
1:11:13
tell the truth. Get out of here. Get out
1:11:15
of here. This
1:11:17
segment is insane. I'm not going to tell
1:11:20
you. Yeah, that's right. Take your
1:11:22
10 seconds. Yeah,
1:11:25
my. I said,
1:11:28
I said to Will backstage. I was like, look
1:11:30
at this. Sorry, too
1:11:32
late. What's off the table?
1:11:36
You know what I mean? Like,
1:11:39
what would you, what would any of us be
1:11:41
embarrassed by at this point? I have a friend
1:11:44
who literally was hacked and like pictures of her
1:11:46
fucking actually masturbating are online. Like
1:11:49
we're all just going to get over it. I
1:11:51
mean, it's out there. I
1:11:54
don't know. People will find
1:11:57
fucking anything. I'm sure my kids
1:11:59
like. You know Nanny cam or
1:12:01
whatever. the the camp, the camera, the sleep
1:12:03
camp. I thought I was like a was
1:12:05
have some point I don't know a ring.
1:12:07
Cams are all had. I don't know.
1:12:10
I would say. When you get a hotel
1:12:12
room, I don't know. No one has
1:12:14
any natives. Good! What Is this? I
1:12:20
mean, they know. Nothing had says that
1:12:22
is least like everything is
1:12:24
is rather mosey to everyone.
1:12:26
Always there's like nothing middle
1:12:29
aged white said you. Know
1:12:31
what I mean? Yeah, no that's why
1:12:33
mine was I'm too good looking business.
1:12:37
Sides I agree. I agree.
1:12:39
War. Movies at the minute
1:12:42
you guys? Oh sorry. Now
1:12:46
for the most exciting as her left
1:12:48
turn into politics there. Has.
1:12:52
To show some respect, this man prosecuted
1:12:54
a whole an awful woman. I
1:12:58
was. For the record, I was never told this was
1:13:01
going to be sixty seconds to fill. And
1:13:05
is to saw My answers are.
1:13:09
Really? Into
1:13:12
this. This
1:13:15
this is gonna really helping my
1:13:17
fundraising event as with mine, mine
1:13:19
was. What Was
1:13:22
George Santas? A strategy to win.
1:13:27
And and. Related.
1:13:29
We. Can. People
1:13:31
tell if you've
1:13:33
had Botox. That's
1:13:36
good, that's good but I owe me realize
1:13:38
that been over thirty six such as I
1:13:40
know that's a good was messing around because
1:13:43
because it's like will run for congress.com of
1:13:45
is. Is
1:13:49
that is the question time people tell. Ya
1:13:51
I must say can. You.
1:13:54
Can tell some of the time that's crazy. though
1:13:56
like i literally have been on since l
1:13:58
of since i was a years old
1:14:01
and I watch those things that are
1:14:03
like this bitch has had plastic surgery
1:14:06
or whatever and truly like
1:14:08
I look like I've had my buckle fat
1:14:10
removed and I look kind of like I've
1:14:12
had a nose job and I
1:14:14
can with so much
1:14:17
confidence tell you neither one of those
1:14:19
things has ever happened in my life
1:14:21
and the truth is your face just
1:14:24
fucking changes as you age and these
1:14:26
kids getting the buckle fat removed are
1:14:28
really dumb because it will
1:14:30
just go away ultimately and you want
1:14:32
it as long
1:14:34
as you can have it. My feeling
1:14:36
is that like the book the hey hey
1:14:39
if it's not
1:14:41
broken don't fix it you know what I mean
1:14:43
like leave your cheek you're taking the inside of
1:14:45
your cheeks out they got a beef or something. That's
1:14:49
the buckle fat guys in case you
1:14:51
don't know because you like you know
1:14:54
you know
1:14:56
what I mean like you're not like we're not
1:14:58
following the accounts where it's like side-by-side of
1:15:01
like you know what does Margot Robbie
1:15:03
done to her face like I there
1:15:05
are lots of accounts like that I think
1:15:07
it's such bullshit because I think that
1:15:09
people's faces change and we don't like
1:15:11
accept that and then but sometimes I
1:15:15
gotta say there's sometimes where someone
1:15:17
does it something
1:15:20
happens and and you
1:15:22
know that they're also lying and I understand
1:15:24
being you don't want no one should be
1:15:26
mean on the internet but but if you're
1:15:28
if no one should that's my policy yeah
1:15:30
but if your face fucking
1:15:33
changed completely over the course of a day
1:15:37
don't bullshit me. Yeah I agree I
1:15:39
agree I here's my feeling about all
1:15:41
of this which is in this it's
1:15:43
similar to Ozempic and Mandaro which
1:15:45
is we have this Calvinist idea like
1:15:47
deep in our bones where if if
1:15:49
you didn't work hard for it if
1:15:51
you didn't suffer for it if you
1:15:53
didn't earn it it isn't real and
1:15:55
so like be like okay
1:15:57
like I don't you know I've about
1:16:00
having hair transplant and like I've had three
1:16:02
of them. I've
1:16:05
had three of them and I've talked about that. That's
1:16:08
not a secret. Because also you fundamentally,
1:16:10
you're also an intelligent person, John, and
1:16:13
you understand fundamentally that somebody who like
1:16:15
doesn't have the gee, or like that like doesn't lose
1:16:17
hair because they don't have the fucking gene or whatever doesn't
1:16:19
make them superior, right? And like you like live in a
1:16:22
world where you're like, I
1:16:24
actually just want my hair. And like so what if they, yeah
1:16:26
look, two from my head and one from my asshole. So
1:16:28
what? So
1:16:33
what? Is that embarrassing? Yeah, the
1:16:35
doctor says, time
1:16:39
to, time to, time to, we
1:16:41
have to go to the southern forest this time.
1:16:45
We've clear cut the parts that we
1:16:47
can use up north. That's
1:16:50
not what happened. That's
1:16:52
not what happened. But if it was
1:16:54
so what? But I, but I
1:16:56
know is one day your asshole had no hair.
1:16:59
The next day was covered in hair. And I
1:17:01
didn't get it. I
1:17:03
didn't send it to the asshole. I got
1:17:05
it from the asshole. It
1:17:07
wasn't a, what were you
1:17:09
thinking? You
1:17:12
said, you know what? This is not good, but you
1:17:14
know, it's more important. No,
1:17:16
that wouldn't have been the third. You
1:17:21
think that's what I did? No, of course not. They
1:17:23
harvest from the asshole. No,
1:17:26
I can see your hair. That
1:17:29
was, that was too far.
1:17:33
And he's the prosecutor and I'm having a case made
1:17:35
against me. I just think this is one of the
1:17:37
most helpful focus groups that I've ever listened to. Listen,
1:17:41
you know what? You played your cards right 20 to
1:17:43
30 years. I'm one of your
1:17:45
voters. Something
1:17:49
to think about. Something to think about. Where
1:17:51
does this go? Not to Florida. This
1:17:56
goes to the desert. And
1:18:01
I think that's a wonderful place to
1:18:03
leave this segment. We come back, we'll end on a
1:18:05
high note. And we're back. Because we
1:18:08
need it this week, here
1:18:10
it is. It's a high note. Hi,
1:18:13
Levitt. This
1:18:15
is a post-pandemic high note
1:18:18
about my amazing, resilient teenage
1:18:20
daughter. Like a lot
1:18:22
of families, we had a pretty miserable lockdown.
1:18:25
We live in a big city and we're
1:18:27
stuck in a small apartment, unable to
1:18:29
go to work or school. She
1:18:32
got super depressed and lost interest in most
1:18:34
of the things that used to give her
1:18:36
joy. And I said to a
1:18:38
friend at the time, when this is over, I
1:18:41
just want her to be passionate about something again
1:18:43
and be re-engaged with the world. Well,
1:18:45
fast forward to 2024. She's
1:18:47
16 now and busy with so many
1:18:50
things, I practically have to schedule time to
1:18:52
see her in any given week. Two
1:18:54
of those things are social justice
1:18:56
and playing chess. Last
1:18:59
week she spoke at a rally with
1:19:01
a local ACLU chapter where
1:19:03
she's part of a teen activist
1:19:05
project about equity in budgeting before
1:19:07
our city council. And
1:19:09
this week she is starting a program
1:19:11
she designed to teach chess to low-income
1:19:14
teens at our local drop-in center. And
1:19:16
I couldn't be prouder of the amazing,
1:19:19
resilient person that she is. Hi,
1:19:23
Love It! This is Mara. I
1:19:25
have seen you live in Madison and I'm
1:19:27
going to be seeing you again this July.
1:19:31
I am calling to let you know
1:19:33
that my NIH grant was
1:19:35
recently scored very highly and assuming the
1:19:37
government doesn't shut down, which, let's be
1:19:40
honest, is a real possibility, it should
1:19:43
be funded later this year. Which
1:19:45
means that I will get to
1:19:47
be studying the health care of
1:19:49
the incarcerated population in the hospital.
1:19:52
And I'm just very happy that the
1:19:55
NIH recognizes the importance of taking
1:19:57
care of the very vulnerable and
1:19:59
understandable people. studied incarcerated
1:20:01
population. Thanks for all
1:20:03
that you do. Love your show. Thank
1:20:06
you to everybody who sent in a high note tonight.
1:20:08
If you want to send a message about something that
1:20:10
made you feel hopeful, send us a voice memo to

lowly high notes at Gmail or friends of the pod

subscribers can leave them in
1:20:16

1:20:18
last note before we go, tonight's
1:20:20
show is the last show for
1:20:22
Zuri Ervin, who has been producing
1:20:24
videos for this show for years,
1:20:26
does an amazing job, brings an
1:20:28
intense, anxious, neurotic
1:20:31
energy to this
1:20:33
show, which is incredible
1:20:36
given the energy everyone brings to the show. Do
1:20:39
you know how anxious about doing a
1:20:41
good job you have to be on this program to
1:20:43
be one of the anxious people that works on this
1:20:45
show? That's incredible. But
1:20:48
he brings that energy because he has cared
1:20:50
so much about helping to translate this show
1:20:52
on YouTube. And because of him, we have
1:20:54
built an incredible audience on YouTube. And so
1:20:57
Zuri, thank you so much for everything. You've
1:20:59
gone for this show. Really
1:21:02
grateful. And that
1:21:04
is our show. Thank you so much to Busy Phillips.
1:21:06
Thank you to Will Rowland. Thank you to John Marco
1:21:08
Surrezi. There are 219 days until the 2024 elections. Have
1:21:13
a great night, everybody, and have a great weekend.
