To the official podcast of the Love Times Two Project. Change the culture and
0:12
the politics will follow. Hey, welcome back to the podcast. Today is part two of a very important discussion
0:21
on a 2024 poll that really gives us some deep insights into where the culture
0:27
is going on the abortion issue.
0:29
Thanks for tuning in and let's dive right on into part two of this discussion.
0:34
Now, when we move forward to another part of this poll, and we look at whether
0:38
the respondents to this feel that tax dollars should be used to support abortion in the United States.
0:45
What we find here is that gap is narrowing down significantly.
0:49
In 2015, for example, 68% of respondents to this poll strongly opposed using
0:56
tax dollars to support abortion, 28% supported. That's a 40% gap.
1:02
Fast forward to 2024, and only 53% oppose and 46% support using tax dollars to pay for abortion.
1:13
That's gone from a 40-point gap in 2015.
1:17
In nine years, that's dropped to a seven-point gap in the whole question of
1:23
whether or not tax dollars should support abortion.
1:26
So again, it should be very alarming that we're seeing that type of trending that's happening.
1:30
Now, this polling also asks, Ask, would you support or oppose or strongly oppose
1:35
using tax dollars to support abortions in other countries?
1:39
So this is really all this is always interesting to me. This is a really interesting question.
1:44
Now, in 2017, 83% opposed using tax dollars to support abortions in other country, 14% supported.
1:52
There was a 69 point gap between those two positions.
1:55
This should be alarming to us. Again, another alarming stat from this poll that's
2:00
plunged down to 67 percent opposed, but now 30 percent support.
2:05
That's only a 37 point gap. So the difference between those who would oppose or support using our tax dollars
2:11
to pay for abortions overseas, that gap is narrowing as well.
2:16
Well. So what's the trend here? You see these gaps narrowing everywhere on the question of abortion,
2:21
and that's not a positive cultural trend. There's no way you can slice it to make it look positive, just to be honest with you.
2:26
So this is very troubling. And actually, I applaud this Marist poll for just
2:31
being brutally honest with the data that it's seeing here, which is another
2:34
reason why you can trust the integrity of this poll.
2:38
I mean, if this were a poll they didn't want you to see, you would never see
2:40
these numbers. But it's very, very troubling. And I would also say that there's.
2:45
There's a high level of hypocrisy, let's just face it, that Americans,
2:49
by a much larger percentage, don't want abortion tax dollars to be used to support
2:54
abortion overseas, but a smaller percentage opposes it using those tax dollars at home.
3:00
So I'm sure there's a fiscal equation to that, but whatever it might be,
3:04
there's a big difference between using those tax dollars here or using those tax dollars overseas.
3:09
So the next issue that's being addressed here is the issue of conscience objections
3:13
to performing And the question is, do you think doctors, nurses or other health
3:19
care professionals who have religious objections to abortion,
3:21
but practice where abortion is legal should be or should or should not be legally
3:27
required? Let's interject. I mean, that's the way to ask the question. I would say forced to perform abortion.
3:33
So 66% said that they should not be forced to be participants in an abortion.
3:40
33% of respondents said they should be forced to participate in an abortion.
3:45
Now, is it just me, or do you find that really stunning and unsettling that
3:51
one-third of Americans responding to this poll say that health care workers,
3:56
talking to you, doctors, nurses,
3:59
other health care professionals, 33% of Americans believe you as a health care
4:03
worker should be forced against your conscience to participate in taking a human life?
4:10
I personally find that really staggering. green. Now, when we look at this,
4:14
it's important to note that in 2022, the numbers were even worse because in
4:18
2022, actually in June of 2022, what happened in June of 2022?
4:24
It was the Dobbs decision out of Mississippi that overturned Roe versus Wade.
4:28
At that point in time, 53% said it should not be required, but 41% said it should be required.
4:35
53 to 41 in 2022 has improved the 66 to to 33 in 2024.
4:42
Now, just how do we filter that? How do we look at that and make sense of that
4:46
shift just in two years period of time?
4:48
Well, again, you have to remember what is the cataclysmic news in 2022.
4:53
It was the reversal of Roe versus Wade, which led to media hysteria that there
4:58
would not be any type of general health care service available.
5:01
And I say health care service because that is how the culture shifted dramatically
5:06
from abortion being known as
5:09
the killing of a human life to becoming reproductive, quote, health care.
5:13
So that whole health care attack that came in the wake of the Dobbs decision
5:17
moved a lot of people to think, well, sure, women should be allowed to have health care.
5:23
So we should force doctors to provide, quote, health care.
5:27
The shine on that apple has worn off since 2022, clearly from this poll.
5:32
But again, we'll just leave this by saying it's still disturbing.
5:35
That you have one-third of Americans apparently wanting to force doctors and
5:40
nurses to participate in the taking of a human life.
5:43
Now we're going to move on to what this poll calls medication abortions,
5:46
and I call it chemical abortions quite often.
5:49
Different terms are used interchangeably for it, the abortion pill, so forth.
5:53
The question was, do you think someone that's receiving a prescription for an
5:57
abortion pill, should an in-person visit be required, or should they be be allowed
6:03
just to receive it without an in-person visit.
6:06
In this poll, it shows 61% of Americans believe it should be required.
6:09
38% said that it should not be required.
6:13
This is a huge issue that we'll have to really keep a close eye on.
6:17
I'm sure the Marist poll will as we go forward, especially with the rise of
6:21
chemical abortifacients, the mail order,
6:23
both from legal and illegal sources, and in some of the changes that are happening
6:28
in federal policy on abortion drugs Now, this next question deals with Down syndrome.
6:34
Do you strongly support, oppose, or strongly oppose abortion because the child
6:40
will be born with Down syndrome?
6:42
You want to have something in this poll that breaks your heart.
6:45
This is it right here. In 2024, in this new poll, 58% oppose aborting a baby
6:52
solely because of Down syndrome, but 39% support that. That's an 18-point gap.
6:59
It's down from a 47% gap just as recently as 2021.
7:05
In 2021, 69% of respondents to this poll opposed aborting a baby solely because
7:14
that baby has Down syndrome compared to 22% who supported it.
7:17
That has now dropped to only 58% opposing while those who would support it.
7:25
Abortion of a baby for no other reason than that the baby has Down syndrome
7:30
has risen to 39%. Very disturbing data that we see there.
7:36
Next question was asked on the abortion on the basis of gender or sex.
7:41
Do you support or oppose an abortion solely because of the child's gender or sex? Very interesting.
7:48
Remember, we just talked about Down syndrome, 58% opposed targeting a baby because of Down syndrome.
7:55
But when you move to gender or sex, now 86% oppose.
8:00
Well, what's the difference between 58% who would oppose a Down syndrome targeted
8:05
abortion versus 86% who would oppose a sex selection abortion?
8:12
Well, there's a whole lot of stuff we could say about that.
8:15
But I think one of the heartbreaking things on this, again, is to say the increased
8:21
lack of perceived value of a baby with Down syndrome.
8:25
We should be alarmed that this compassion for children with Down syndrome is
8:29
seemingly drifting away. That's what we have when we look at the sex selection question on this.
8:33
And then we had a question here towards the end on this Marist poll.
8:37
Do you support or oppose pregnancy resource centers, which are places that do
8:41
not perform abortions, but instead offer support to people during their pregnancy
8:46
and after the baby is born?
8:48
83% support pregnancy resource centers. Hey, that's great. Here's what troubles me.
8:53
Who are these 16% that would oppose a center because they support women and babies?
9:02
Well, we know why. I mean, that's a rhetorical question.
9:05
You know that. The answer is that these 16% who oppose these pregnancy resource
9:10
centers, they oppose them because these centers that are referenced here do
9:16
not refer to or do abortions at their centers.
9:20
How sad is that, that 16% of respondents are so entrenched in an abortion ideology
9:26
that they would oppose a center that reaches out and provides resources and
9:31
assistance to moms and babies at most times at no cost to them as well.
9:37
Hey, we're going to wrap it up by looking at this last big question.
9:40
And I think this is the big question that are the polling point,
9:45
I guess we could say, that we can take great encouragement from.
9:49
Really, this deals with core mission of what we've always talked about with
9:53
Love Times 2, and that is loving and caring for every mom and every baby, no matter what.
9:59
The poll asked, which statement comes closer to your view?
10:02
It is possible to have laws which protect both the health and well-being of
10:06
a woman and the life of the unborn child.
10:09
Or it is necessary for laws to choose to protect one and not the other.
10:14
So you see what they're saying here. Can we, as a culture, as a society, can we actually come together and have a
10:21
law that really protects and shows compassion for pregnant moms and protects unborn babies?
10:26
Or does it have to be abortion unrestricted any reason or abortion restricted
10:31
for six months or whatever, all those other things? Does it have to be one or the other?
10:36
Or can we actually protect both? both? Can we love them both?
10:39
Can we show love times two for moms and babies?
10:43
Here's the great news. And I hope you're encouraged by this,
10:45
even though you're probably discouraged by a lot of these other stats.
10:48
The good news is 86% of respondents said, yes, laws can protect both the pregnant mother and the baby.
10:56
And only 13% said, no, laws must choose between one or the other.
11:01
And the fascinating thing about this is this is the one question on this entire
11:07
poll poll that, at least from my first few go-rounds through this and looking at the charts,
11:12
when we look at the trending on everything as it's been asked about the abortion
11:18
issue by the Marist poll going way back to 2009,
11:22
maybe even prior to that, but 2009 is the most recent that they asked this question,
11:26
this has remained almost consistent throughout the entire time that they've done this poll.
11:32
Consistently, 80% plus of those who have responded to this poll,
11:37
dipped a little bit in the upper 70s, but for the most part, 80% plus since 2009,
11:42
even to January of 2024, agree that we can find laws that provide care and compassion
11:50
for pregnant mothers and at the same time protect the life of unborn children.
11:54
So the question that we have to address is how do we get there?
11:59
Because the culture will still support it. That's what this is saying.
12:03
The culture will still support it. The abortion issue is presented in black
12:08
and white, us versus them, liberal versus conservative, whatever.
12:11
We draw all these lines, but this one question peels back the layers and it
12:16
shows the possibility of the path forward of loving every mom and every baby,
12:23
including every unborn baby, no matter what.
12:26
But that is the future that we have to work towards.
