You probably know ADHD is a neurological difference and there's a physical difference in our brain and levels of things like dopamine, right?

This episode looks at the places we experience those differences - communciation, relationships and executive functions.

We might think of communciation difficulties as being more common in Autism but really, the impact of ADHD on how we can follow conversations, workplace meetings and lectures is noticeable. Throw in zoning out when we need to pay attention to a friend because we spot a cute dog or just remembered something.. they might start to get frustrated.

That's where the relationship piece comes in. After we note our communication styles, we can find ADHD affecting our relationships - maybe we are a bit impulsive in our reactions; we react badly to a comment because we feel rejected - or we give too much importance to a positive one.

Finally, Executive function is such a huge part of where we and other people notice ADHD. The automatic elements that other people don't even think about can hijack our day repeatedly. It's no wonder that children with ADHD hear many thousands of negative comments in their early years - setting us up for more challenges ahead.

I don't want to focus on the challenges going forward - there are so many strengths we typically have and each of us is unique - but until we see the potholes in the road, we can't avoid them. Think of this as a high level look at the road ahead - we can see where the problems might be, so we are going to take steps to bypass them.
