Love the concept, but I just can't get past the format. I really dislike the set up where one host brings in information, and the other is just there to react to it. They also aren't scientists, and so just sit there reading what is basically a wikipedia article and talking about it.
Such a fantastic, much needed podcast. The host's dynamics are so magnetizing and although they talk about really deep and important topics, they make it so pleasant to listen and learn!
I liked the idea of this podcast, but very much disliked the execution.
This podcast is perfection, I couldn't stop listening until I've run out of episodes. I wish I could make everyone listen to it, we need it to become our new gospel. Really informative, deeply researched and entertaining. Love the hosts!
I generally enjoy this podcast. It's informative and covers some challenging topics (how society deals with health) in a light and engaging way. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it could be more tightly edited. There's a lot of time for set-up in the episodes I've heard, and by 10-15 minutes in, I've lost the lede. In comparison, You're Wrong About (Michael's other podcast) tends to have a very clear thesis statement and progressive story-telling. I also found that most of the topics (with a few exceptions, like the Twinkie Defense) didn't have enough content to really justify these full-length episodes. I'd love to see this with 50-60 minute episodes covering 2 topics or 25-30 minute episodes with 1 topic. Will certainly keep listening, though!
I love this podcast! I just started listening to it a few weeks ago and I'm hooked!
An informative and important podcast. I only wish there wasn't so much swearing in it so I could share it with my older relatives.
Providing great information with humour and lived experience. The podcast we need!
I loved the early episodes, but it's easy to find errors in the arguments in so many episodes... It's a bit disheartening, especially since the authors consider themselves well-researched.
Would recommend this podcast to, well, everyone! Aubrey and Mike are so darn funny! They have amazing chemistry and they’re both very professional.I’ve listened to almost every episode and Aubrey is my idol now. :) I’m always looking forward to their newest episodes!
Sadly, there is no uncompromised podcast in existence that tackles these issues. (Fat & Faithful did from a Christian perspective, but their posting has pretty much died out.) If you listen to this self-described "leftist" podcast, you'll get perhaps 50% content related to fatness issues and the rest will be propaganda for alt-left extremism, including the most dictatorial of presumptions and outright hate speech about sexual ethics, economics and religion. I have no idea why, but several of the worst traits of many contemporary podcasters are the inability to discuss anything and stay on subject, to demonstrate any degree of basic, normal respect for the 50+% of people who disagree with their take on Unrelated Issue X, or to overcome the addiction to wallowing luxuriously in totally unrelated propaganda regarding personal political extremisms. Both hosts continually boast about their supposed analytical skills, yet they never use those skills to examine their own assumptions and dictatorial demands, or even the fact that they are exploiting their audience at least as much as any of the snake oil sellers they sometimes find time to condemn between their indulgent, political sermons.
I've listened to every episode! It's so good and really makes you re-evaluate current societal "standards" and status quo. Love Aubrey and Michael's chemistry too!
3 standout reasons why this is an incredible production: 1) the episodes are VERY well researched and the topics VERY well selected 2) the storytelling / sound / editing is 2nd to none - The joking, how they bounce off each other, the banter without going too deep into asides… 3) the knowledge you will pickup from them is <chef’s kiss>
Maintenance Phase is a much-needed podcast for people in the beginning of their journey in body liberation and unlearning healthism and anti-fatness. However, I would suggest that anyone in the beginning stages of eating disorder recovery wait until they're in solid recovery before listening, as the podcast is not always careful about how they talk about food.I find it comedic that many 1 and 2 star reviews try to claim that the podcast is based on opinion as opposed to an analysis of existing research and historical records. Oh, the lengths people will go to in order to keep their close-minded perspectives.
Thank you so much, both of you - as a long term eating disorder survivor this podcast has been a shining beaming light in a world of fat phobic diet-matrix nonsense xxx
Though I enjoy some of the episodes (BMI, the history of Halo Top), I cannot condone that these hosts have a bias towards fat/plus sized acceptance, and therefore take everything with a grain of salt leaning in the other direction. Too pro-plus size; if you listen to their takedowns of fitness, diets, etc., you might never be motivated to lose weight as it would seem impossible and probably not good for you. I'm gonna get a lot of hate on here, but through the years doing the Paleo diet, calorie counting, and working out, I have yet to experience 'damaging side effects' of losing 20 pounds and being a healthy size. I imagine my doctors would agree. I prefer You're Wrong About.
Funny and super informative!Possibly the best researched and informed podcast!Method queeeeens!
This person goes to extreme measures to try to justify being overweight. I listened to three of the podcasts in a good faith effort to be open minded. Then you find out she is overweight and that explains everything. On a more vain note: they have the worse laughs….so obnoxious.
I really love this podcast. It's funny and casual but also challenges a lot of popular ideas and the people who promote them. This podcast has changed the way I think about a lot of things. I also enjoy the dynamic between the two hosts. Their humor aligns beautifully.
A lot of misinformation being spread. A lot of negativity and opinions without data or facts behind.
