Hey , I'm Rachel Mae , Country Singer , Songwriter

0:03

and host of Mamas Cup of Ambition

0:06

, the podcast for ambitious mamas

0:08

with big dreams and little kids . Or

0:10

maybe your kids aren't so little anymore , but

0:12

your dreams are still just as big

0:14

as ever . Wherever you find yourself in

0:16

your motherhood journey , if you've got ambitious

0:18

goals that you're longing to achieve and you're

0:20

looking to spark inspiration , cultivate

0:22

motivation and develop community with

0:24

like-minded mamas , you're in the right place

0:27

. As a new mama myself , I created

0:29

this show as a place for honest and empowering

0:31

conversations about motherhood , entrepreneurship

0:34

and dream chasing . So grab a notebook

0:37

, top off that cup of coffee and let's

0:39

turn our goals into action plans and

0:41

our dreams into reality together . Now

0:43

let's jump into today's episode . Hello

0:47

, hello and welcome to Mamas Cup

0:49

of Ambition , the show where

0:51

you will often hear children screaming

0:53

somewhere in the background . At

0:56

rest assured , they're not left unattended

0:58

. My husband is downstairs with the kiddos

1:01

, who are just slowly

1:03

losing their chill . But

1:07

anyway , I'm so excited that you're here with me

1:09

today because I have

1:11

got a guest interview . Guest interviews

1:14

are just my favorite . I love the solo episodes

1:16

. I love showing up here and sharing my own story

1:18

, but really the heart of Mamas Cup

1:20

of Ambition is when I get to shine a spotlight

1:23

on the stories of the Mamas

1:25

in our community . So I'm super excited

1:27

because today's guest is a

1:30

mama to be . Her name is Megan Tobler

1:32

and she hosts the Self Start Her podcast

1:34

. And Megan and I were actually connected

1:36

through a mutual friend and

1:39

I just have to tell you you

1:41

know how , when you just come into somebody's world and

1:43

you just know that you will

1:45

vibe and align on such

1:47

a natural level . That's Megan

1:50

. I just knew from the moment I clicked

1:52

onto her website and went to her podcast

1:55

and started basically cyberstalking

1:57

her that she was my kind of people . I

1:59

love her heart and the mission

2:02

that she is serving with her podcast

2:04

. And this interview was so much fun and Megan

2:06

really gave us a little glimpse into how she

2:09

got to where she is now and how

2:11

her podcast came to be . So I'm not

2:13

going to blab on and on here and try to tell you Megan's

2:15

story right now in this intro , because she can tell

2:17

it so much more eloquently than I can . But

2:20

make yourself comfortable and enjoy my conversation

2:22

with Megan Tobler . Okay

2:25

, Megan , I am so excited

2:27

that we're doing this . I want to say right

2:29

at the top thank you , Kim , for introducing

2:31

us , because I have been just

2:33

totally smitten with you and feel

2:35

so blessed to be in your world and

2:37

I'm not sure how we hadn't found

2:39

each other sooner . But I really just want to start

2:42

this episode out with a shout out to Kim

2:44

for crossing our paths , because I'm such

2:46

a fan girl already and I'm so excited

2:48

that you're here . So I would love

2:50

for you to just get us started with

2:53

a little introduction to who you are and

2:55

what you do Awesome .

2:56

Well , thank you so much , Rachel Mae , and I have to say I have

2:58

to second that shout out to Kim . Kim is

3:00

the most incredible woman and she is such

3:03

a connector bringing two women together

3:05

that are in similar spaces . So

3:07

huge shout out to Kim . But

3:10

as far as I'm concerned , my name is Megan

3:12

Tobler . I am the founder of

3:14

Self-Starter . So a little story

3:16

on me . I won't share everything in spell that's being

3:18

read away , but I am an ex-corporate

3:21

sales professional turn entrepreneur . I

3:23

always had dreams for more and I knew

3:26

that the more wasn't going to happen within the

3:28

corporate world . So lots of things have really

3:30

brought me to where I am today and I'm sure we'll definitely

3:32

dive into where that is today . Awesome .

3:35

So let's talk a little bit about that corporate

3:38

past . I want to circle back and talk

3:40

all about your podcast as well , but

3:43

if you can just kind of like take us back in

3:45

time and tell us a little bit about that pivot

3:47

for you from corporate world

3:49

into your own entrepreneurial

3:51

journey and what that looks like for you and

3:53

how you decided to make that move ?

3:55

Oh goodness , this is such a loaded question

3:57

because I mean , I've always had dreams

4:00

for more . Like I said , I've always wanted

4:02

more in my life , but I was always

4:04

kind of held back with the big picture , not

4:06

knowing where to start really thinking . I had to

4:08

have everything figured out and really the

4:11

perfectionism was holding me back . So

4:13

I decided to just hop into the corporate

4:15

world , just like everyone does , because of

4:17

the safety and the security and the benefits

4:20

and the 401k , all of that stuff

4:22

. That sounds really exciting and sure

4:24

for some people it is , but

4:27

for me I found that it was really holding me back from

4:29

truly living up to my full potential

4:31

and really being fulfilled in my

4:33

day to day . And

4:35

I'm on this podcast . Obviously

4:38

it's Mama's Cup of Ambition . I

4:40

think it's important to say that I'm

4:42

a soon to be Mama . So

4:44

that's the huge part of my story . I'm currently

4:47

six and a half months pregnant , as we're hitting

4:49

record here . But I actually started

4:51

my entrepreneurial journey before

4:54

I even found out that I was pregnant . But

4:56

I always knew that I wanted a family one day

4:58

. And my immediate

5:00

journey , while I mentioned I was in

5:03

sales as a sales

5:05

professional . Before that , I was in the entertainment

5:08

industry , working on production sets

5:10

, and the theme between both

5:12

the entertainment world as well as

5:14

my sales professional journey is

5:16

that I started to look at the women at the

5:18

top and I started to look at what their lives

5:21

looked like , and I realized that

5:23

they didn't really

5:25

have the life that I wanted to live

5:27

. I wanted to be able to raise

5:30

my children , to be able to be

5:32

home with them , but also to financially bring

5:34

in and contribute to the family as well , and

5:37

I just didn't know how I would be able to

5:39

do that , working in the corporate world

5:41

and also juggling full

5:43

time mommyhood . So

5:46

, long story short , I started

5:48

in October well , actually

5:50

, let's rewind a little bit in

5:52

June of 2022, . I

5:55

realized that I had enough and

5:57

that I wanted to take that first

5:59

step and I wasn't going to let

6:02

that big picture hold me back anymore . So

6:04

I started thinking what is it that

6:06

I can do right away that I know

6:08

that I will enjoy , that I know

6:10

that I will be consistent with in something

6:13

that I will learn along

6:16

the way and that can continue to develop ? And

6:18

, coming from a sales background , I knew that

6:20

I loved communicating with people . I

6:22

loved hearing their stories , so I

6:24

thought why not start a podcast where

6:26

I'm interviewing other women who are

6:28

already doing the dang thing ? So long

6:30

story short , that's kind of how I got started

6:33

, and everything has really built from there .

6:35

So great . I love that . I

6:37

feel like that's a very common thread in a lot

6:39

of the folks that I talk to is just there

6:41

comes this point where you realize you're

6:44

sort of reevaluating what you want , moving

6:46

forward and having to make those

6:48

choices . And I think something that

6:50

comes up a lot for people

6:52

in my audience is a feeling

6:54

of resistance . So I'm always curious

6:56

if that's something that

6:58

you encountered . So when you came to that

7:01

sort of fork in the road and you knew you were longing

7:03

for something more and something different

7:05

and you decided that you were going to start walking

7:07

a different road , was it just like

7:09

, ok , I'm all in , I'm going for this and

7:12

I just whatever will be will be

7:14

, or did you sort of buck up against

7:16

that sense of resistance and sort of second guessing

7:19

yourself ?

7:19

as well . Well , I definitely think there's always that sense

7:22

of resistance . I think that a lot of us have

7:24

faced imposter syndrome at one

7:26

point in time and I just

7:28

really made the decision that I wasn't going to let it hold

7:30

me back , because I knew the bigger

7:33

picture was more

7:35

important than the fear

7:37

of potential rejection , humiliation

7:40

, because all of that's in my head and

7:42

I had to keep telling myself that I'm a harshest

7:44

critic , I'm a super , super

7:46

small point in someone's day and

7:48

people aren't really aren't thinking twice about

7:51

it . So I was just going to start messy

7:53

. I didn't have it all figured out

7:55

. I started really small . I started with

7:57

my immediate circle of people that I knew and

8:00

I really made sure that I was setting

8:02

myself up for success right away and

8:04

filling myself with a lot of positive

8:06

reinforcement from my own self . I

8:09

was really making sure that I was . I was telling

8:11

myself really inspiring things to

8:13

be able to keep me going when the times were

8:15

a little uncertain .

8:17

Yeah , I think that's so important because some

8:19

of my favorite folks that

8:21

I follow are the ones that sort of let

8:23

you in on the journey and

8:25

that show up even when things aren't perfect

8:27

. Right , I think it gives us all permission

8:30

to get started where we are when you see other

8:32

folks saying you know what , it doesn't have

8:34

to be perfect , and I'm allowed to be a

8:37

beginner at this , I'm allowed to have a starting

8:39

point , like I think we forget sometimes that

8:41

everyone has a starting point and

8:43

you may see somebody at the top of their game

8:45

and be comparing yourself

8:48

to like their years and years and years

8:50

of putting in the work and feeling

8:52

like you're not entitled or allowed to have that

8:54

starting point . So I love that you can have

8:56

some strategies in place to just surround

8:59

yourself with the energy

9:01

and with the inspiration that you needed to

9:03

just start taking action , because I

9:05

feel like all of that clarity and

9:07

getting you to where you are right now , like none of

9:09

that can happen unless you're willing to be

9:11

brave enough to take that first step and

9:13

take little action in the direction

9:15

of your dreams . And so I love

9:18

hearing how people push past that resistance

9:20

and just sort of get into action

9:22

, even if it's the smallest baby step

9:24

. So you say you were like finding ways

9:27

to keep yourself sort of inspired and

9:29

on track . Did you have like mantras or something

9:31

that you were saying to yourself , or was it just sort of the

9:33

community that you surrounded yourself with

9:35

? What did that look like in like the day to day it

9:37

?

9:37

honestly came down to preparation and surrounding

9:40

myself with like-minded , positive people , and

9:42

I have to take a step back too , because you had

9:44

mentioned it's about all taking that first step . Really

9:47

, that's what self-starter is all

9:49

about . It's really being

9:51

okay to start messy , realizing that you

9:53

don't have it all figured out , and

9:55

a huge part of my journey is I'm

9:58

sharing with everyone that I don't have it all

10:00

figured out . You're alone for the ride with

10:02

me as I'm figuring it out and I'm sharing all my

10:04

learnings along the way because I

10:06

think that to your point , like it's more relatable

10:09

. There are a ton of people that I follow that

10:11

are multi seven figure earners

10:13

and I respect them and I look

10:15

up to them and I'm learning from them every day

10:18

. But sometimes you need that person

10:20

that is maybe just one step ahead of you

10:22

to be able to break it down a little bit

10:24

into smaller chunks , to be like , okay , she

10:26

did this , I can do it , you know

10:28

yeah , I love that .

10:30

Well , let's talk a little bit about your podcast

10:32

. So for everybody listening , it's self

10:34

start her at

10:36

the end , which I love . That , obviously

10:39

, and one of the reasons that , like

10:41

I said at the top of this episode , that

10:43

I'm so enamored with you is

10:45

because I think we have a very similar

10:47

heart and a very similar passion for what

10:49

we're doing , and I'd love for you to just

10:51

tell us a little bit about I mean , we've kind of touched

10:54

on how you got to this point , but talk

10:56

to us a little bit more about , like , why podcasting

10:58

for you ? What was it that was pulling you in that

11:00

direction ?

11:01

Yeah , self starter is really

11:03

all about highlighting female

11:06

entrepreneurs , people that have

11:08

left corporate , like I have , who

11:10

have taken the leap to be able to live

11:12

the life that they had always dreamt about . So

11:15

I started self starter because

11:17

I was curious . I

11:19

wanted to learn from these women what

11:22

worked for you , what didn't work like

11:24

, share your journey . And I figured

11:26

you know what ? If I'm learning

11:28

all this , why not share it with others ? Because

11:31

I , in conversations with so

11:33

many other women , I've found

11:35

that a lot of people have dreams for

11:37

more , yet they don't know where to start

11:39

. And to be able to have a resource

11:41

like this , I felt like was invaluable

11:44

, something that we needed

11:46

, and if I was going to

11:48

invest all the time in order to be able to

11:50

accumulate this knowledge , then why not

11:52

share it in the process ? So , since

11:55

I started , I told you that I started

11:57

recording in June of last year . I first went

11:59

live in October of 2022

12:02

. As we're hitting record right now , it's June

12:04

of 2023 , crazy how fast

12:07

time flies . But now we've released

12:09

39 episodes and we currently

12:11

have guests booked out through the middle of January

12:13

of 2024 . So it's just

12:16

been this most incredible journey of

12:18

being able to highlight women

12:21

entrepreneurs share what's worked

12:23

for them again like what hasn't worked

12:25

, but also to help highlight their businesses

12:27

, to be able to be their biggest cheerleader

12:30

and support as they're really navigating

12:32

this entrepreneurial journey themselves so great

12:34

.

12:34

Have there been any like common themes

12:36

that you've noticed talking to all

12:39

of these ambitious and driven

12:41

women ? Has there been anything that's been

12:43

like really obvious to you , that is sort of a

12:45

through line in the folks that you talked to ?

12:48

I think the biggest thing is that we

12:50

all struggle with the same things

12:52

. I think that it's that imposter

12:54

syndrome at first thinking that

12:56

you , why would someone listen

12:59

to me , why would someone want what I have to offer

13:01

, but then making that decision . I

13:03

think that's the biggest thing is that these women

13:05

made a decision to get started . Even

13:07

though they made this decision , they still had

13:09

the imposter syndrome , but they worked through

13:11

it and by working through it it has been

13:14

able to really transform their

13:16

lives . So I think that's like the

13:18

biggest first step is that they made

13:20

the decision to work through all of

13:22

these specific feelings . But then

13:24

, outside of that , another huge

13:26

theme is that a lot of these women

13:29

have embraced the feminine

13:31

energy . So there's been this huge

13:33

theme between masculine energy and feminine

13:36

energy and in the corporate

13:38

space , a lot of what we experience

13:41

in corporate is very masculine . It's very do

13:43

, do , do and task

13:45

oriented and results and

13:47

achievement oriented . And while

13:49

that's still important with the feminine side

13:52

of things , it's really listening to that intuition

13:54

, because I mean , hey

13:56

, mom is out there . There's nothing more strong

13:59

than mom's intuition and I

14:01

think as women we have this superpower

14:03

and it's really

14:05

being able to really listen to that and

14:07

combine that intuition

14:09

with that masculine energy so we're

14:12

not just all in that masculine . The

14:14

other thing is really joining a community

14:16

, finding your people , because entrepreneurship

14:19

is not for the faint of heart . It's

14:21

a constant roller coaster and you

14:23

need to surround yourself with people that are going

14:26

to be your biggest cheerleaders

14:28

, to help you and to inspire

14:30

you when the times are tough and

14:32

to really help promote you . It's

14:35

there , your business best friends .

14:37

Yeah , I love that I'm . We're big fans of community

14:40

around here and I really do believe

14:42

we go further together , especially as women

14:45

. I think there's a lot of dismantling that we're doing

14:47

. For a long time We've sort of been conditioned

14:49

to feel like we need to be pitted against each other

14:51

, and that just doesn't serve any of

14:53

us . There's enough room for all of us and there

14:55

is enough resource for all of

14:57

us , and actually we're so much

14:59

more powerful when we join forces

15:01

and lock arms and help

15:03

one another get where we want to go . And I feel

15:05

like you're probably starting to see this

15:08

as well , as you're into your motherhood

15:10

journey yourself now . But I feel

15:12

like motherhood is a real catalyst for that as

15:14

well . It's like if ever you had a spirit

15:16

of like , I can just like bootstrap and do this

15:18

all myself . Motherhood will just break that

15:20

right open for you , because you

15:23

have to get comfortable with asking for help

15:25

in motherhood . Or it's a real

15:27

, real lonely journey , and I think that

15:30

business and entrepreneurship is very

15:32

similar in that way . It's like if we can just

15:34

learn to ask for help not just

15:36

help , but to ask for support

15:38

and community it just makes the experience

15:41

so much more enjoyable . So I love

15:43

that you're giving a voice to

15:45

other women in the space

15:47

and that not only you're learning

15:49

through the process , but you're giving the opportunity

15:51

for so many other folks to tune

15:54

in and learn alongside you

15:56

and to learn from all

15:58

of this collective wisdom . I just think that's such

16:00

a cool thing .

16:02

Thank you , and I'm a firm believer that

16:04

there's plenty of wealth and

16:06

knowledge to go around for everyone . It's

16:08

very much the believer of collaboration

16:11

is greater than competition

16:13

, because we technically

16:16

might be doing something in similar industries

16:18

, but it's okay . There's plenty of room

16:20

for all of us and I think that if we're stuck

16:22

in the competition side of things , it's

16:25

going to limit you . Women supporting

16:27

women is my jam and we need

16:29

more of that and clearly it's yours as well .

16:31

Yes , so

17:17

great . Well , how are you preparing

17:19

or how are you feeling about moving into this new

17:21

phase of your career and motherhood

17:24

and how those are going to intersect ? Have you had

17:26

all of the big feelings about it , or are you just kind

17:28

of like rolling with it as it comes ? Or where

17:30

are you in that journey ? Oh gosh to be honest

17:32

with you .

17:33

I don't have it all figured out , but I'm trying

17:35

to prepare for the unknown

17:38

. Yeah , obviously I've never walked

17:40

into motherhood before I didn't

17:42

mention this but a huge catalyst

17:44

for why I decided to go all

17:46

in on self-starter was I went through

17:48

a layoff in March of this year and

17:50

I realized during this time that

17:52

it is very difficult to get a

17:54

job while you are currently

17:57

pregnant and expecting and needing maternity

18:00

leave . So I decided you know what , why not

18:02

take control of my own destiny ? And

18:04

just , I felt like this was a sign to go all in

18:06

on what I needed to do , and that was

18:08

like the best thing that could have happened to me

18:11

, because it allowed me to really

18:13

put all of my attention direction

18:15

and to prepare for

18:17

the unknown . And so you asked , like

18:19

, how am I preparing for this ? A

18:21

huge part of my I

18:24

don't want to say like strategy , but a huge

18:26

part of my resources has

18:28

been utilizing LinkedIn , because

18:31

a lot of my the

18:33

women that are on my podcast came from the corporate

18:35

world . Yeah , so being able to have a voice

18:38

on LinkedIn has really helped

18:40

me to get a lot of traction

18:42

and get people interested

18:44

in what kind of self-starter

18:46

was all about . So now

18:48

it's really just making sure that I have all

18:51

this content recorded before my little

18:53

guys comes in September

18:55

, to really make sure that I can just

18:57

have an episode continue to release every

18:59

single week throughout the end of the year , because I

19:01

don't know what my life is going to look

19:03

like , and that's okay , I'll

19:05

figure it out . And I think that , to

19:08

kind of quote Marie Forleo here , everything

19:10

is figure outable Totally .

19:11

Maybe this is just the circles that I'm in , but

19:14

I feel like you don't hear as much about LinkedIn

19:16

, so I think it's really cool to hear that that's been

19:18

something that's been so supportive and powerful

19:20

and helping you to get these amazing guests on

19:23

, to help get your message out

19:25

into the world and to connect with all

19:27

of these powerful women . So that's really

19:29

cool .

19:30

Yeah , it's been a really great and interesting platform

19:32

to leverage . And I didn't start really leveraging

19:34

it until I got laid off from my corporate job , because

19:37

my message is all about empowering women to start

19:39

something of their own , which was very conflicting

19:42

from my corporate job . My corporate job is

19:44

all about empowering people to

19:46

elevate their skill sets within

19:48

corporate . So once I was able to get rid

19:50

of that , I was able to go all in

19:52

and highlighting kind of my strengths

19:54

. I have a little bit of

19:57

a more difficult time putting visuals

19:59

to the words on Instagram

20:01

and Facebook . Okay , so LinkedIn

20:03

has been really interesting because it has allowed

20:06

me to write up just content

20:08

without having to think about the visual that's

20:11

tied to it . So I can start with LinkedIn

20:13

and then not have to worry about the visual and then

20:15

repurpose it for my other social

20:17

channels and then I can think about

20:19

what complements that piece

20:21

of content visually afterwards

20:23

. So it's just kind of a

20:25

figured out , a way that it works with my brain .

20:27

Yeah , that's great . Has there been like a

20:29

moment in your podcasting experience

20:31

so far that has felt really rewarding or

20:33

where you just sort of felt like your mind was blown

20:36

and you had that . I can't believe I'm doing

20:38

this moment . I'm always curious about that .

20:40

Yes , and it was one of those

20:42

moments where it really told

20:45

me that I was doing the right thing . And

20:48

it was with a recent podcast

20:50

guest and we hopped on

20:52

to hit record and I could feel that her

20:55

energy just was a little bit down . Yeah

20:57

, and we were just having a conversation

20:59

and I said you know what ? She told me a little bit about her

21:01

day . She was tired , and I

21:04

said you know what , if we need to reschedule

21:06

this so that way you are in a more

21:08

mentally clear place and you feel like

21:10

you're really ready to be able to

21:12

properly transfer your story

21:14

, I'm happy to do that . And she decided to

21:17

keep going and power through it and by

21:19

the end of it she actually ended

21:21

up thanking me . I watched throughout that

21:23

entire interview her energy

21:25

change and she was just lighting

21:28

up and she went from kind of sinking

21:30

in her chair to sitting up

21:32

confidently with her shoulders back and

21:34

she was just this holy woman . And

21:36

at the end she thanked me and

21:38

she said thank you for making

21:40

me feel seen and that

21:43

moment to me was

21:46

everything .

21:47

I live for those kinds of moments because it's

21:49

like you never know what you're gonna walk

21:51

into . And we've all had those days right when

21:53

it's like maybe your energy isn't at

21:55

a 10 , but you kind of power through and

21:57

you do what you need to do . But there's something about

21:59

getting in proximity and getting that

22:01

energetic boost from someone

22:04

else . And it's like that comes

22:06

back to why I think it's so powerful

22:08

in that like sort of cross pollination and supporting

22:10

each other and helping one another to get

22:13

to where we want to go , because sometimes

22:15

we need to borrow that little booster

22:17

, that energy , from someone else

22:19

to get back into alignment

22:22

with where we really want to be . So that's so

22:24

magical . And I also love that you say

22:26

you were willing to reschedule

22:29

, like I think that's just very telling of

22:31

you as a person as well , to be able to read

22:33

someone else's energy , even

22:35

just virtually . I love that you were

22:37

willing to see the person and put

22:39

the person first and , even though that didn't ultimately

22:41

end up being what y'all decided to do , I

22:43

think that's just such a great way to

22:46

move through life and

22:48

I think that part of your personality

22:50

and that part of your energy comes through very

22:52

authentically in everything that you do

22:54

, at least from what I've consumed so far . So

22:57

I am smitten with you

22:59

. Like I said , the feelings reach

23:01

.

23:01

Rachel May .

23:02

Awesome . Okay , so

23:05

we've talked a little bit about your podcast and we've

23:07

talked a little bit about you getting laid

23:09

off and where you came from . So I'd

23:11

love to kind of know what are your big goals

23:14

or ambitions for this thing

23:16

that you're creating into the future ?

23:18

That is like the age old question and that I've

23:20

actually gone back and forth with , because

23:23

, going into the journey of motherhood

23:25

, I'm really trying to not exchange

23:27

time for money . I'm recognizing

23:30

that I want to be present

23:32

for my future family but

23:35

, like I mentioned , I also want to be able to financially

23:37

contribute . So when I started

23:39

this journey actually before I even

23:41

knew I was pregnant , I should say so in

23:44

January I hired a business coach and

23:46

I told this business coach that

23:48

I wanted to be at a corporate in six months

23:51

. Well , jokes on me , because

23:53

I got what I wanted not

23:55

on my timeline , but be careful

23:57

what you ask for , because the

23:59

universe is listening and

24:02

working . Through this business coach , I've had

24:04

a lot of revelations . At first I was

24:06

thinking very short term , thinking that

24:09

I just needed to make it a buck really quick

24:11

, but ultimately I've

24:13

put that aside . I'm not

24:15

as focused on the immediate

24:17

financial gains rather than my

24:19

long term future . So when

24:22

I say that , at first I was thinking I would

24:24

do some coaching and sure

24:26

I can do some coaching here and there , but

24:28

that's not going to be my main focus for a self-starter

24:31

. When I think of self-starter , it

24:33

goes back to what we were saying . It goes back to community

24:35

. It goes back to women , supporting women

24:37

, and I want to be able to create a place

24:39

where women can come and confidently

24:42

show up as themselves , connect

24:44

with other women and really grow

24:46

and learn from each other . So right

24:48

now we're building out a community . I'm

24:51

also building out a platform

24:54

where I'm going to be able to

24:56

have a little member directory where

24:58

I'm able to recommend folks like yourself

25:01

for people to be able to listen

25:03

to and work with . So

25:05

, again , just really highlighting the women

25:08

entrepreneurs that are in my life , because

25:10

I've had such the pleasure of being able

25:12

to surround myself with so many women

25:14

over the last year . And then I'm also building

25:16

out a course . So I mean , obviously

25:18

I mentioned I'm being very vulnerable

25:20

and sharing my story with my followers

25:23

and subscribers right now of what I'm going

25:25

through . So I'm packaging up all these

25:27

learnings into a course

25:29

so that way they can be able to take the

25:31

knowledge that I've acquired and learned

25:33

from all of these female entrepreneurs and

25:35

package it into one source . So

25:38

lots of great things coming , but

25:40

kind of going back to what self-start is all about it's

25:42

taking that step , one step at a time and

25:45

recognizing that I don't

25:47

have to have it all figured out right this second

25:49

, and it's going to evolve . It's

25:51

just being able to make that one little

25:54

step every single day forward .

25:56

Well , that all sounds really exciting and

25:58

I feel like there's so much

26:00

need and desire for

26:02

communities like what you're describing

26:05

, especially as entrepreneurs . I feel like sometimes

26:07

maybe your immediate group

26:09

of friends can't always understand exactly

26:12

what it is that you're trying to create

26:14

in the world , and it can feel kind of isolating

26:17

because you feel like you don't have anyone you can understand

26:19

, talk to or you have something exciting

26:21

that you want to celebrate . It may not track

26:23

or really translate to some of

26:26

your friends , and that's okay , but

26:28

I think there's real power of not only being able

26:30

to celebrate but also just be like hey , I'm hitting

26:32

this dip and I'm having a hard time . So

26:34

I think it's really a powerful thing

26:36

when we can get connected with like

26:38

minded folks and and

26:40

move towards goals together , and

26:42

so I love that you're incorporating that

26:45

element of community , because we

26:47

all need that in this journey . So it's so cool

26:49

that you're creating an opportunity

26:51

for that very thing .

26:53

Yeah , throughout this whole experience , I really realized

26:55

that I'm kind of like the cheerleader

26:57

, I'm your business

27:00

BFF , that I'm going to be supporting

27:02

you , no matter if we met each other

27:04

for five minutes on the street or maybe

27:07

grabbing a coffee at Starbucks or

27:09

whether we've been lifelong friends . Like I

27:11

want you to succeed , probably even more than

27:13

you want yourself to succeed . So

27:16

I think that that stuff just lights

27:18

me up , and being able to surround yourself

27:20

with people that are like minded

27:22

is really everything because , like you said , I

27:26

have some wonderful people in my life but they don't

27:28

always understand , kind of the journey that you're

27:30

going through . So , being able to have

27:32

a community like the one that you've created

27:34

and the one that I'm creating , to be able to connect

27:37

with these like minded women , they get

27:39

what you're going through and they

27:41

become your biggest cheerleaders as well .

27:43

Yeah , it's contagious it really is when

27:46

we can connect with each other , and sometimes

27:48

even the cheerleader needs the cheerleader right . So

27:50

it's great that you're going to create , like at

27:52

that , directory as well , so that people can find

27:55

each other and lift each other up . And I'm

27:57

really excited for all that you are

27:59

going to do for the mamas and

28:01

ambitious women listening

28:03

right now and there's something that is

28:05

calling them and they want to move towards it , but

28:07

maybe fear is holding them back . What would

28:09

you say to that person to just

28:12

sort of get them into action ? Do you have any

28:14

advice ? Honestly ?

28:15

the best piece of advice I could say is

28:17

just get started with something , because

28:20

just because you're getting started with one

28:22

thing today doesn't mean that that

28:24

has to be your end something it

28:26

can evolve and change , but sometimes just

28:28

taking that action is what

28:30

you need in order to get the ball rolling .

28:33

So true , we have a lot of very multi-passionate

28:35

women in my community , so I think that's

28:37

going to resonate deeply . So I

28:40

always like to wind

28:42

down my interviews with guests with the

28:44

same set of three questions , and

28:46

I really am excited to ask you these three

28:48

questions as well . Are you ready for them ? I

28:50

am ready , let's do it . Okay

28:52

. So the first one is in four

28:55

words or less what's your best piece of

28:57

advice ?

28:58

Oh , I'm going to have to piggyback on just what I said

29:00

before . It's just get started .

29:02

Yes , okay , If there is

29:04

a must-have resource

29:06

, this could be like a podcast or a book

29:08

or a community that you would recommend to

29:11

the folks listening what would that be ?

29:13

I would say that Jenna Kutcher is

29:15

one of the ones that I love to follow

29:17

, and I'm sure that a ton of your listeners

29:19

already follow to her . You're not

29:21

in your head yet , because Jenna is

29:23

just the most genuine

29:26

, authentic human and

29:28

I love that . She's been able to be

29:30

a powerhouse example

29:33

of the fact that you can have

29:35

it all . So not only

29:37

does she have a podcast that's how I found out about

29:39

her but she has tons of great courses for

29:42

you to figure out how to get started on

29:45

your Pinterest strategy or your

29:47

course development , even just your email

29:49

marketing , things like that . But then she also just

29:51

came out with a book how Are you Really ? And

29:53

I think that , as Mama's

29:55

, is a really great reminder to

29:58

be able to really get in tune with yourself and

30:00

really ask yourself how am I really

30:02

? She's probably one of my favorites out

30:04

there . I already mentioned

30:06

Marie Forleo . She has a book Everything

30:08

is Figureoutable and that's kind of

30:10

my mantra in life and it's kind

30:12

of the running joke and I wouldn't say a joke

30:14

. But anytime that I am starting to

30:16

question things at home and

30:18

talking to my husband thinking , okay

30:21

, how am I going to do this ? And he goes wait , Megan

30:23

isn't everything figureoutable Nice

30:25

, so he always just throws that back at me

30:27

. So a nice little reminder in our house

30:29

hold over here . And then Kathy

30:32

Heller is another one

30:34

that I've really enjoyed as well . She

30:36

is kind of the little

30:38

kick in the derriere that I needed to

30:40

start my podcasting journey . I

30:43

was listening to her podcast religiously and

30:46

actually invested in her podcasting course

30:48

, and it's been able to connect me with

30:50

so many incredible women like Kim

30:52

and yourself . So even we

30:55

had talked about this earlier , but these individuals

30:58

obviously are leaps and downs further

31:00

than I am in their entrepreneurial

31:02

business , but by being a part

31:04

of their communities I've been able to connect

31:06

with so many incredible women and then

31:08

just being able to follow along their journeys where they're a little

31:11

bit closer to where I am . So , long

31:13

story short , all the women .

31:15

Yes , so good . Oh

31:17

my gosh , okay . So what

31:19

fills your cup ? Both literally

31:22

, like what's your drink of choice , and then figuratively

31:24

, like how do you fill your cup and care for

31:26

yourself ? Oh goodness .

31:28

Well , literally depends

31:30

on the time of day , as

31:32

well as whether or not I

31:35

am expecting a child . So I

31:37

am going to be a little bit of an

31:40

interesting one here . You probably don't get this

31:43

very much on your podcast , but I

31:45

actually don't drink coffee , so I

31:47

naturally just wake up perky and awake

31:50

every single morning . So I

31:52

start my day with a glass of hot water and lemon

31:54

, and I swear that is

31:56

the secret to like not getting sick

31:59

, and maybe call me woo-woo , but

32:01

it's worked . So , knock on wood , I

32:03

don't know . I'm not that crazy of a

32:05

drinker , but as far as

32:07

when I'm not pregnant , I love

32:09

a good glass of red wine , preferably a cab

32:12

. So , figuratively , there's

32:14

so many things . I recognize that

32:16

I need sunshine in my life . So anytime

32:18

that I'm feeling a little bit depleted energy

32:21

wise , it's important for me to be able to get outside

32:23

, soak up the sunshine , go for a walk

32:25

and also be by the water . There's something

32:27

so peaceful and energizing about

32:30

that whole experience . But then , as

32:32

far as kind of our conversation today

32:34

, being able to surround

32:36

myself with stimulating conversation

32:39

with like-minded people that are supporting

32:41

each other , that really fills my cup

32:43

. I could be kind of the

32:45

poorest person on the planet and have

32:48

the most stimulating conversation , and

32:50

my cup would be overflowing . It's

32:52

the best .

32:54

So good . Well , that comes through , and I

32:56

think that's why podcasting is such a great medium

32:58

too right , because it's like what a time

33:00

to be alive that this is our reality

33:03

and we're able to be in different states

33:05

, different time zones , in some cases

33:07

, different parts of the world on occasion , and

33:10

we can still get together

33:12

and support and encourage each other . Like what's

33:14

not to love about that ? I'm so happy that

33:16

podcasts exist for that reason

33:18

, because I get to connect with people like you

33:21

and then us getting to connect . Now I get

33:23

to share this with all of the other mamas

33:25

and the women in my community and it just

33:27

spreads like wildfire . So sometimes

33:30

you just cross paths with somebody and you

33:32

just know , like I can just tell

33:34

, that you are a good soul

33:36

and I want to be in your company

33:38

. So I'm so thankful that you're here today

33:40

and that you were willing to come and share

33:42

your story with me and with my audience , and

33:45

I'm so excited to see all of the things that you're going

33:47

to continue to do in the world , and I would

33:49

love it if you would just let my audience

33:51

know where they can find you or they

33:53

can connect with you .

33:54

Gosh , you're just making a girl blush over here

33:56

. Thank you so much for the kind words , but I

33:58

have to just echo everything that you've said . I'm a

34:01

complete fangirl over you over here as well

34:03

. So I do just

34:05

really love the

34:07

podcasting medium and just technology

34:09

in general because , like you said , it's been able to connect

34:12

two people from different states

34:14

together today and

34:16

it's just an absolutely

34:18

incredible and rewarding experience For

34:21

any of you that want to follow along the journey

34:23

and get a little taste of what

34:25

I'm going through . You can

34:27

find me . I think the majority

34:30

of your community is probably going to be on Instagram , so

34:33

you're going to find me at self start her

34:35

. So it's S-E-L-F-S-T-A-R-T

34:38

34:41

then I'm also on LinkedIn

34:43

, as I mentioned . That's a big one for me . My

34:45

name is Megan Tobler I'm sure

34:47

that everything will be in the show notes for

34:50

you as well and then my podcast

34:52

is really kind of the bread and butter of where it's

34:54

all at . If you want some inspiration for

34:57

34:59

absolutely incredible women , just

35:01

35:05

35:12

never thought I would utter those words because

35:14

35:17

I feel like I need to go and like

35:19

tinker around and at least find you on there . We'll

35:21

definitely connect .

35:22

I've got you .

35:24

Oh my gosh . Well , this has been incredible

35:26

. I'm so excited to continue

35:28

to just follow along with your journey and

35:30

I'm so grateful that you came here . I'm really excited

35:32

to follow along with your motherhood journey as well , and

35:35

you know I'm going to have to have you back to

35:37

talk about things once you've got

35:39

baby in tow . Count me in , I would be

35:41

honored , awesome . Well , thank you so much

35:43

, megan . Thank you , rachel May . It was

35:45

a pleasure , man

35:48

. That was such a fun conversation . I

35:50

just love Megan's heart for community

35:52

and collaboration and I

35:54

feel like she really does just embody

35:57

those two things so authentically

35:59

and they just shine through her in the

36:02

most beautiful way , like it's very obvious

36:04

that she is , in fact , cheering for

36:06

everyone on her path to succeed

36:08

, and that truly is just a contagious

36:10

, amazing quality , and I just

36:12

find it to be so captivating

36:14

and magnetic , and I

36:16

think it's so inspiring when folks

36:19

are willing to learn out in the open and

36:21

to bring others along for the process so that we

36:23

can all learn and grow and benefit

36:26

from each other's wisdom and experience , and

36:28

I feel like that's exactly what Megan is doing

36:30

, both with her podcast and with the business

36:33

that she's growing . And one thing that I really appreciated

36:35

was how she mentioned the power

36:37

of embracing and leaning into our feminine

36:39

energy in entrepreneurship

36:42

. Like , I feel like that was a great reminder that

36:44

we're all allowed to embody all

36:47

of the parts of ourselves along this journey

36:49

. That really struck a chord with me , so

36:51

I'd love to know what resonated

36:53

with you and if you wanna

36:55

continue the conversation . You can find me over

36:57

on Instagram by searching Mama's Cup of Ambition

37:00

, and if we haven't already connected there , I'd

37:02

love the chance to get acquainted , as always

37:05

. I just wanna take a moment to say how grateful

37:07

I am that you tuned in today . It's

37:09

such a privilege to share these conversations

37:11

with you and I appreciate so

37:13

much that you're here . So thank you

37:16

, thank you , thank you . That's it for

37:18

today's episode , but until next time

37:20

, may your dreams be ambitious , may

37:22

your coffee be strong , and may we all

37:24

be surrounded by people who see us

37:26

and cheer us on as we chase our

37:28

biggest dreams . I'll talk to you soon . Stay

37:31

happy and Carefully .
